On March 25th, 2023 Douglas County Police were called to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Lake Tahoe, Nevada following a report of an active threat situation involving an armed man named Edgar who had shot another man Lock down the… Lock down this… We got (unintelligible) Where is he going? Yep So, it was either some type of physical embrace some type of altercation He pulled out a gun shot a guy, left hand left side of the head El Dorado County Police identified Edgar’s car through surveillance and established checkpoints around the area Hours later they located and stopped a suspicious vehicle So this is the suspect vehicle right here We, um we made the stop (unintelligible) Female is detained in this car Male is detained in that car We pulled her out We asked her who else was in the car She said, she said Her boyfriend The boyfriend Asked if there was a gun in the car She said, uh, he had a gun Didn't know if he still had a gun Uh, he was uncooperative initially (Officer unintelligible) his hands Doing stuff like that Maybe about two or three minutes Called him out of the car He came back detained him Asked him if there was a gun in the car He said, there's a 26... If you can just be upfront and honest about anything that you know I would like to keep my focus primarily on Edgar, okay? Mm-hmm Okay So, maybe I, we should be able to see him do that on video Edgar was booked and charged for the shooting and for the enhancement of a weapon He was later sentenced to 55 years in prison with a minimum parole eligibility of 22 years According to the Division of Parole and Probation Edgar had no prior criminal history The victim was transported to Barton Hospital where he later lost his life His family recalls him as someone who always put family first A relative of Omar presented a statement at trial, reminding Edgar that Omar was young full of hopes and dreams and that he had been taken from their lives The hotel later reopened to the public and resumed normal operations With no prior criminal history how did things go off the rails so violently?
