We're going to talk to you, okay? About what's been going on in the store. We're talking to your buddy outside, okay? >> Okay, look. Now, I'm trying to get a job here. You setting me up? On December 7th, 2023, officers were called to the famous Walmart where shoplifting is a well-known [clears throat] problem. On today's episode, we have two males. One says he's being set up by the other, and the other has a disgusting past that officers find out when looking up his criminal history. They're both right here, 70. Or the one in the camo is right here sitting on the cart. I guess they're following the other one, 69. Do you know? The other one they're following now. He turned back and he's going to the sporting goods. He's apparently got the merchandise. He took out of the package, put it in his backpack. >> What's up, man? Pretty good. Were you in here just a minute ago? Yeah, I went to the back restroom. With your buddy? Okay. All right, we'll just step over here for a quick. We're just going to make sure you don't have any weapons on you or anything. >> I do got a knife. Am I under arrest? Well, you're being detained right now. You're not free to leave, okay? You're not under arrest just yet. Do you have anything in Walmart's besides the walkie-talkie? No, sir. Okay. But that was something that y'all got in there? Only him. Huh? Only him. What? Only him. Okay, but you got one of them clipped to your belt. Well, I've been having that. That's one that you already have. We're 10-26 with the one with the camouflage outside. I'm not arrested? You're detained right now. We got to talk to Walmart and figure out, you know, exactly what we're going to do. >> about that, and that's the property, and that's what they told us the property was in the call that it was to be walkie-talkies. And yeah, that'll be part of it, okay? So, cooperation's everything though. And then we check the records to see if they're competitive with shoplifting and stuff, okay? I never I had a shopper with me. Okay. Walk over here to the car. Why are you doing it today? He made me do it. Who is it? His name is Matthews. What's your name? Timothy. What's your last name? What's his last name? I don't know. What's his first name? Matthews. Matthews, you don't know his last name? No. Okay. 10-17 10-56 90 from traffic. Got another unit that can be around the Walmart until we can find the other one cuz we're already 10-26 with one. 10-4, I don't have anybody available. You will stand by, I guess. They got to come out one door or the other. Yeah, or if you just want to sit him in the car for now, I'll go take a look and see if I can't find him. All right. And if you need it, then I'll What else you got on your man? Just your phone? Okay. Are you like a drug user, or what's your deal? What's your story? I'm I'm homeless. Where you been living at? 70 Central What's got you homeless? My bad. 70 Central, I'm in that store. Trying to locate him now. You don't use any drugs or alcohol? >> No, sir. They're in the infants department now. He just refused to stop. They're following him around. My record is clean. Okay, good. Clear. I'm not familiar with this store. I'm just having to walk around and find him. I mean, like I said, it helps you in this situation because that's what they base a lot of it on. Yeah. They want to make sure that it's not somebody that's going to keep on stealing it or they're already stealing stuff, you know? Yeah. They're towards the middle of the store. I have them. Nothing else in there? No, sir. Nothing down in your waistband or anything? And the only reason I'm being so thorough is because you Yeah, you Well, I do, and you do have some stuff, and so we want to make sure that you don't have anything that's, you know, going to get anybody hurt or anything like that. >> that walkie-talkie for a long time. Okay. When'd you buy it? Last year. Okay. Just going to have a seat right here for now, okay? And like I said, man, really cooperation is everything because it's not the crime of the century but and you know your your friend your friend's cooperation will be part of that team. Okay, we'll just sit tight. You'll be good like I said I'll take care of you and you got nothing to worry about. Okay, all right. Okay, good deal man. Sorry, he's just been walking around the store. All right. All right, I got to tie the walker. There you go. Yeah, I'll apply them now. Hey Matthew, we need to talk to you though. Huh? We need to talk to you, okay? About what's been going on in this store. We're talking to your buddy outside, okay? >> Okay, look I I came in Uh-huh. don't know how long ago. Okay. I went to go to the restroom. Okay. The front front bathroom was full and I had really had to take a bowel movement. I didn't want to take a bowel movement on myself. All right. >> I went to go to the back bathroom Mhm. in the family's room to use it. Okay. Cuz that's I have PTSD. >> a favor, just take that backpack off for just a second. >> I mean you going to have to have a warrant, man. 69, was there any update? Oh, 70's got eyes on him. Copy. Look, take the backpack off, okay? We don't want to escalate this more than it has to be. Like I ain't got nothing. Look, Like officer Higgy already knows who I am. You're not under arrest right now but you are being detained, okay? >> What? Because of your activities here in the store, they're investigating a shoplifting, okay? My activities? Yeah, they're investigating a shoplifting. I mean I ain't been doing So I need you to take that backpack off for me. I mean I I have no And forward to the left. I I really don't know. I don't I understand you don't want to, but we're in this We're in this position, okay? >> No, I don't want a warrant. I have a right for a warrant. Well, that's not a thing, having a right for a warrant. Uh I don't have >> already ain't doing what the officer telling you to I mean So, that's obstruction right there. I mean It could be. For sure. Okay? So, just take your backpack off for a second. We'll work through this. >> some items out of Academy Sports. Okay. We'll figure that out. Y'all want to tell me no good reason, huh? 10-26. Do you have an ID on you somewhere? Yeah, it's in my back pocket right here. Okay. What's your birthday? 101. 10-4. Items I bought out of Academy Sports. I'm taking out your ID, okay? That's what I bought out of Academy Sports. I lost this 7601 ID card. Yeah, I bought it out of Academy Sports. Why don't we walk up to the office at the the front? I want to remain silent. I want to somebody. Huh? I want to remain Oh, that's my fault. Get somebody. Got it. Can you get him up here? Can you get him up here? Careful. Can you get him up here? No, he's not working today. Hey, officer. Yes, sir. Officer. Are you under arrest? You are right now because of the situation where with the alleged shoplifting, but the what I'm telling you is is that Walmart can make the decision whether they release you on Dispatch. >> a citation or not or whether they want you to be actually taken to jail. Can I get Sergeant Echols up there? There is no Sergeant Echols. What you trying to say? Well, I'm telling you that it's the conditions are Walmart decides about the prosecution of it. So, there is some leniency there because of depending on the value of the items. Well, I didn't steal nothing. Okay. Y'all doing this [ __ ] I don't want to [ __ ] say [ __ ] Oh, [ __ ] I'm trying to get a flight. >> 70 to 90. We're walking them up to the loss prevention office right now. No, I'm trying to get a job here. So, what were they doing? So, they went over to electronics and they got um two packages of walkie-talkies. >> Those? Well, no. I had the packages. >> Okay. Are these familiar to y'alls as well? I don't I'm not sure about that. The two pack The two things that we saw him pick up >> Mhm. and they went to the bathroom and opened the packages. Then went back to get my phone to call the police. Okay. Have y'all recovered the items that they have? No. So, they're I'm assuming in here in the back. Okay, cool. I don't mean that. You ever been arrested for shoplifting before? Yes. No. No? Why would Why would I shoplift? >> I don't know. Why would I even shoplift in the first place? I got a job. I'm trying to get another job here. >> Hurry up. Let's get another job just like that. [ __ ] you. All right. Let's see. Take care of my [ __ ] All right. You got anything on you I need to know about? 70. I'm going to check this out here. All right. Stand up real quick. This second wallet? >> No, that's my brother's wallet. Oh, your brother? Yeah. I was going to give it to him but Howdy. All right, you can have a seat. Is he from Banks County, too, or where's he from? Dallas, Texas. Oh, really? Okay. How long you guys been hanging out? I just met him today. Okay. I already know him. 70, did you ask him about the on-brand walkie-talkies? What What about those walkie-talkies? The walkie-talkies? Yeah. I bought them at Academy Sports. He's claiming he bought them at Academy Sports. I have video of him stealing them. But they're saying they have video of him concealing it. 70, I have uh the walkie-talkies still from here, but there is another package he probably got from Academy. Uh Walmart said they're not theirs. Oh, you want me to go to jail, don't you? That's right, you also No, [ __ ] Don't touch any of that. There's needles. But they're empty, but I don't know what this is. It's on the mirror. It's crazy. You want to read look up this one? Yeah. It's C94. Yeah, C's on one side, 94's on the other. Howdy. What about na- naloxone? Oh, that's methadone. That's what I thought, but >> Is it in a jar with his name on it? Uh I don't know if it has his name on it, but No, it's in here. I ain't done that this long in my life. Yeah, probably shouldn't, because you're going to be barred. So, that's quite a few of them in there. Yeah, I mean, it's something you can get pretty freaking easily. It's not methadone, but it is like methadone. It's the same thing as far as like So, you'll get sick when you're uh Yeah, coming off of it. I found your ID today. Okay. Uh he got it in his wallet. Okay. He's holding on to your ID? Yeah. We can get it from Yeah, I'll get it. I haven't done nothing but so. Huh? My friend somebody take back his book bag and all. You have his ID in your wallet? He's got a voter's He's got an extra a wallet. He said he didn't have an ID in the wallet though. Yeah, he got a voter's ID. A voter ID. It's in It's in this wallet. Oh, it's in that one? Yeah. What are you doing man? Building a clubhouse? What do you need a walkie-talkie for? So these are yours? Yeah. These aren't? Yes, it is. He started organization. So But you're not buying them, you're taking them. I'm not buying it. No, that's that's not it. Tell him. I'm not taking it. Where is it? Where is his ID? Right there. I was taking them. I thought they were saying these are Academy or maybe he said they're Academy. >> That's what he's saying but we literally have And then did Does he have another one of these Yes. Okay, I'll Do you Where you want to put them? See, you don't want to touch them? I have gloves in here if you want them but Were there places where I didn't want There was some drugs and stuff inside of it and he's flagged uh like blood borne. Drugs? I don't I mean do those drugs? They're the on brand, they're little gray on brand. And then he had the other guy just that's all he had of anything just the one of those. So is he going to be other guy going to be 1095 or just barred? Um both. Does he he has no history or anything? Yeah. I don't think he does. I know he does. Yeah, we're going to have to bar. I don't know about I don't know his information. What y'all going to do with me? Officer what y'all going to do with me? Do you bar Uh not 100% sure yet. I got stuff I got from Academy Sports. How y'all doing? We're good, what's up man? >> They're never going to learn, huh? Nope. I'm little bright, I don't [ __ ] drugs. I don't do them no more. Now I'm about to start back too. I was I don't pissing me off. I supposed to go pick up my check at 2:00. And I was going to come up here and get Christmas stuff and give y'all my money. Y'all think I'm going to give y'all my money now? You can hold [ __ ] scene the job. I don't [ __ ] Watch your language. Freedom of speech. So, I'm going to tell you you're going to be barred from this property for 2 years. You cannot come back. We're going to be signing and then I'll I'm going to take a picture of you. Wait. Wait till I tell your corporate about this [ __ ] And then do you want me to tell Hogan? Yeah. Um yeah, he told me to tell you that he is going to charge you. Okay. For sure. All right. Sounds good. For the distance. So, um we have a citation that we're going to issue you because, like I said, you were cooperative with us and everything. And so, um you know, again, some of the discretion is there, some of it's ours. I told them that, you know, I don't think you're somebody that does this. And so, we're going to, you know, give you that benefit of the doubt for for now, for today, okay? He's got a bunch of stuff in his backpack and doing all that. >> He's going to jail, right? Yes. And that being said, they did say that there's camera with you like blocking look like you were like blocking the way so he could do all that stuff. Was Was that happening? Yes, sir. He set me up. Well, I mean, that's the person that you're hanging out with, so. I got to grab this other ticket book. Am I arrested? Yes, but I'll explain in a second. Just Wait a second. All right. Why don't we call the night? I'll be here in my car. What? You arresting me? Yeah, you are going to jail. Can I talk to him real quick? Yeah, go ahead. All right. So, you're going to be barred for 2 years from this property. That's every single shop in this parking lot. I'm going Okay. All right. Just so you know, Y'all arresting me for nothing, No, it's for shoplifting. Shoplifting? Yep. All right. Let's go. [ __ ] I'm going to hang on to that. And I'm going to hang on to that cuz they got all the chains and stuff on them. Y'all want to That's what I mean, man. What the [ __ ] What? All his stuff. Watch your shoelaces. There you go. Uh uh shoplifting. If you kick that door again, you're going to be charged criminally for that. Do you understand? Yes, sir. Dalton, I'm not going to tell you again, all right? And if you want this to reflect badly on you, then that's you, okay? You not damage police property, and that's the last time I'm going to tell you that, okay? Yes, sir. You know there's no need for that, okay? You can't arrest me for no reason. Okay, no. The reason is for shoplifting, okay? Nobody's being like that to you, so you don't mistreat our property, all right? I've been kind to you over the years, and I think you can think about that now. This was a bad decision, all right? But you're not going to damage police property just because you're upset right now, okay? So, just maintain yourself. We're doing what we have to do based on what Walmart wants to do, okay? And that's it. That's the last time that needs to be said, man. While officers looked up the suspect's criminal history, they noticed a list of offenses he's had in the past. He said he hadn't been arrested for shoplifting before, but it's not something I believe. All right. We'll We'll do the misdemeanor. How's that sound? All right. Go ahead and step out here. You can turn around right here. But the reason also is you have to understand, man, is that he's been in trouble for a lot of stuff. >> know that. And so, that's also why the history is it adds up that he's going to jail because he's had a lot of different chances not to go to jail, okay? The difference for you is you have You have not had those charges previously. And so, for you you know, it's a different consideration. Yeah. And so, that's why we released you. You can't be hanging out with somebody like that. I The thing is is I'll say to you is if you understand that somebody's getting you into something like that that you shouldn't be? And that Well, that's enough Yeah, you don't have to tell the law, you just have to avoid them. There's that for you, okay? Okay. This is your copy as well, so you can take that, just fold it up or whatever. That's for the barring, okay? Like I said, man, I just want that to be our only time seeing each other, okay? And you do the right thing when the officer asks you about any weapons. You got a knife, tell them where it's at. All right? Yes, sir. Okay, man. Well, be safe, okay? And just remember what we talked about, okay? All right, take off. Yep, you will. You don't have any dope hidden on you anywhere, do you? Okay. I got you. I just have to ask. The last guy I brought here had a whole bunch of dope stuffed under his nuts. The suspect was booked for theft by shoplifting. On December 22nd, 2023, he pled guilty to the charge. He was sentenced to 30 days of confinement followed by 12 months of probation.
