I think it was as they were approaching the tree fell Pretty sure he's intoxicated also I mean, if he's drunk, we'll go that route, but… Witness statements helped investigators reconstruct the group's ride through dense fog revealing the moments leading up to the crash - You have somebody coming for y’all? - Allison! Yeah Okay Everybody’s going away Everybody’s going away Okay (Unintelligible) Can you call them back? And let them know Although there's a lot of lights Do not come screaming down the road - Oh, they're not screaming down the road - Because we're gonna send the other ambulance back out Yeah, they... they work... Peggy - P-E-G-G-Y - Peggy Tell me what happened I didn't know how far ahead it was Mm-hmm What? How far ahead? I didn't see her when we come arou... come around the corner The side-by-side was on the side... on its side Uh-huh The tree was in the road and she was in the road Was she driving or was Zach driving? She was not... She was in the passenger seat Okay And then she says "And they yell at us all the time about seat belts" That's all they ever say Seat belts, seat belts, seat belts, seat belts Who says that? Both of them Both of them? Yeah, anytime I'm driving ... Mm-hmm she's driving, when the guys are not with us they're like, "Oh, put your seat belts on" - Mm-hmm - Women are driving Put your seat belts on Yeah This is not your life This is not your life All right Okay See, I couldn't keep her there I mean, she come back (unintelligible) and we were waiting Like, we were on the phone Like, screaming at police Sheriff's Office 5-17 Go ahead As the scene investigation continued deputies recovered evidence that expanded the scope of the case Is it Will Russell Road? Barron Russell Barron Russell Right here I don't see anything I don't know if that's just a mark from where they were coming through I kind of see very faint Yeah, that's what I was looking at right here All right They’re working on getting into his computer Yes Okay His keyboard was locked Yeah, we tried unlocking it and I couldn't... I couldn't get it - unlocked - So he just restarted it - Okay - and I watched the video It said push and hold Shift key 8-10 seconds Yeah So I don't know if that's what he did and then unlocked it or what But when I came back up here he was restarting and putting the password in So I guess it's... Have... Have they told you guys who they all are? As far as names So... Malcolm the guy that's in the jacket and the hat He is the boss of Zach Buice's Wrecker, in Forsyth Mm-hmm That's his daughter Anita Buice that worked at the commissioner's office her daughter Mm-hmm So it's, uh... it's like all of them are (unintelligible) Mm-hmm I think they have... They said, like, I think her parents are kind of, like a lot of people (unintelligible) Okay (Unintelligible) The guy in the jacket and the hat He's a volunteer like captain or something with Monroe County Yeah And he's the boss to the husband Okay And then the guy in the other hat that's talking to him now Uh-huh Is his dad Okay So father-in-law Okay And then I think her parents are on the way Okay All right But like... - It's all like - Yeah tight-knit local (Unintelligible) (Unintelligible) All right. Can we get y'all to move up there? So we can try to pre... preserve the scene No, (unintelligible) I just - f***ing love her - All right Come on Come on, Zach We gotta go to the ambulance Can you walk? He can't walk, Gary - I went to go pick up his leg - He can't walk? while the guy (unintelligible) They think his leg's broke Yeah - But I don't know - I don't give a f*** if it’s broken now I don't care I just wanna lay here I just wanna lay here - That won't do - What the f***? Come on No, we gotta I tried to save her and it - wasn't working - I know, but come on now - It wasn't working - We gotta... We gotta get... We gotta get up off the ground now Can you walk or not? Can you walk? I don't care about walking - Zach - Stand up - Zach - Zach Listen, just trust somebody just now Let me help you, buddy Come on Let me help you All right We need... We need... Gentlemen... Get up, get up this way Okay Go past the... I tried - I tried to… - He's gonna have take care of that... Yeah - You gotta take care of that baby - She was praying for me! - You gotta take care of that baby - She was... She was praying for me! (Unintelligible) - Oh, my God - I know, buddy I know Ain't no way Is your leg broke? Is your leg broke? I don't know I don't know - I can't... - On three - I can't think - One, two, three Oh, my God Go around the tree Yup Oh, my God, dude I can't breathe She's gone, buddy! She's gone! She's gone! I can't deal with it I can't deal with it Um... Her mom... called me right before we headed up here Okay She's got their child who is totally 100% - handicapped - Mm-hmm and dependent on 24-hour care Yeah Um... Oh, my God So... I was gonna call Daniels, but I'm... I'm just letting him come and get her Uh, yeah I will... I don't how y'all handle that but I'm just saying they're gonna ask me - to talk (unintelligible)... - See that's the... See, that's where... The ER, and depending on how... he's the provider, the ER may say if y'all want that, y'all can do it, but... it depends on who's working, too - But I would try it - I thought y'all witnessed it I would try See, that's gonna be, that's gonna be the whole... Like, I've, I've gotten search warrants Yeah and taken them to Bibb Yeah But then you got others that are like - well, that’s in Bibb County - Every, everytime I get, I get it... I get a... I call everyone - Every single one of them - But... - but I thought that's a... - the only issue is, if you don't do it then I'm thinking about is if this thing ever goes to court - and they say, like, was their blood alcohol taken? - Oh, yeah Yeah And if you say no... Oh, I got grief on that... - I got grief on that when that... - Yeah lady got hit on that trike, motorcycle - and got ejected - Mm-hmm And I said, that boy had no signs of impairment at all I had no reason to take it And they were still not satisfied You're suffering on South Jefferson, they don't care They wanna know why you didn't do it Do you wanna... do the search warrant? And... I, I have no idea how to... like... I mean, I can do the regular DUI search warrant Yeah You know - But... - That's what we'd have to do Yeah - You know, so... - For blood I just... My only concern is it's the Jones County Search Warrant in Bibb County Yeah, I mean, somebody that knows what they're doing needs to - type up the... - She may (unintelligible)? - Yes - Yes Okay Somebody that knows what they're doing needs to type up the... What? search warrant So we... We already got a pre-typed one All you gotta do is verify Yes, I will Officer What are we doing with this? We're... We... We gotta redo - the scene - Yeah, I mean… is somebody coming to get it or... Yeah, we gotta figure that out So... what all needs to be done with it - All right - Her, we didn’t get her... Would her keys be in the... her house keys be in their, in their vehicle? Yeah, it's at the house, yeah Okay. All right Yeah, all that's, all that's gotta stay there Oh, there? Yeah, yeah There We'll... get everything turned over to who it needs to be Okay All right Yeah So from what I'm told, uh, they were going down Barron Russell, or up Barron Russell to the dead end They got to the end, they turned around went to come back Um, as they were coming back it depends on who you ask If you ask the husband, the tree fell and they didn't see it and hit the tree If you ask the other guy, the tree was falling as they were... They ran into it as it was falling Uh... It's hard to tell from the evidence But... I'm more inclined to think they hit it when it was on the ground cause one of the wheels is broken off underneath The other problem, and this is gonna possibly complicate things even more all of these people out here the husband all of them are connected to Monroe County Fire and EMS After Zachary declined a chemical test deputies obtained a court-authorized warrant to get a blood sample advancing the forensic investigation We either gotta get a Bibb County search warrant Mm-hmm ...or you gotta go down there and read them implied consent and ask for blood Yeah And him voluntarily give it up Good morning Uh, this is Sergeant Johnson Sergeant Johnson with the Sheriff's Office, Jones County Um... Is there a way that I can talk with someone in the EC about a patient that's possibly incoming? Hey, this is Sergeant Johnson with the Jones County Sheriff's Office Um... Uh, there's a patient either there or coming in uh, by the name of, uh, Zachary, uh, (Redacted) Um... If y'all... pull blood on him... can you make sure to save us a copy? We're gonna subpoena that I just, I just wanna make sure that the information gets saved and not done away with All right, well, that's what I needed Thank you for your time On January 12th, 2026 Zachary turned himself in following the investigation He was booked into the Jones County Jail before being released on bond later that day pending further court proceedings Zachary later pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle in the first degree and received 10 years of felony probation with early termination possible after 3 years upon successful compliance with the conditions of his probation
