This is about you taking advantage of two people when they were at their most vulnerable. Okay. But there was one thing you weren't counting on. God was watching you. You're going to go to prison for a long time. Me and me, mother. >> How do you know? >> I saw you. I kind of said, "Well, I'm a little bit good." >> Yeah, >> I guess it's my sugar. >> There's a certain group of people who want all the perks of having money, but don't want to work for it. When the cops track down these scammers, they think acting dumb and innocent will get them off the hook for their crimes, but they're quickly proven wrong. >> And I didn't do anything, officer, >> for attempting to take money right now. Okay. >> I really didn't, officer. You guys are supposed to be the ones that if you don't do anything wrong and you tell the truth. I've never been in trouble in my life. And I didn't see anybody anywhere. >> At a Chase bank in Florida, an internal email was circulating regarding a man they believed was impersonating another client by using a temporary California ID. On the 17th of January 2023, the suspect returned to the bank to withdraw $5,000 and the cops were immediately alerted. >> Hey, how's it going? >> By me. I didn't know you were pulling me over. >> No, we trying to talk to you. So, how's it going? >> Good. Well, we got a call from the Chase Bank about you in there trying to withdraw money from an account that is not yours. >> No, I was with my friend that was in the parking lot as well that they tried to withdraw money, but I was with them. >> So, where's your friend now? >> Uh, in the parking lot of Chase trying to get money. I guess they were trying to take money out. >> Hey, let's get another unit to the Chase bank. Supposedly, the subject is still there. >> And this one saying that that's his friend. >> It wasn't me. The cops sent another unit out to check on the mysterious friend in the red Honda that supposedly was still at the Chase Bank. The suspect claimed that he originally met his friend at Fullale University and they planned to meet up because his friend wanted to buy his PlayStation 5. >> I got you. >> I was waiting and waiting. I said I wanted to do it at a public place. I was at the public place. Um at the public place um he was waiting too long and then I pulled out and left. >> Okay. Well, we'll get this train out. All right. >> That's fine. We're good. Can you roll this window down too? >> All the way so I can see inside. >> Why do you want to sit inside my vehicle? I'm not doing anything. >> Your hands will hold you. >> My hands are right here. >> Another police unit arrived at the bank and went on to interview employees to get their side of the story. They also wanted to get a description of the man who was trying to withdraw the money. >> Like around his height. >> Yeah, my height. Um, and it's probably like early 40s. >> Early like orange type tan, you know, like spray tan. >> Spray tan. Spray tan. >> Shirt floral in pattern. >> Yeah, it was a Okay. It was floral. He say floral. >> Yes. Uh, he's got a Jeep. American red Honda. >> Who was in a red Honda? Was there another person in a red Honda? >> I think that's a bogus story. just try to get us somebody else. >> The officer asked the employee to come and look at the suspect in the Jeep to try and properly identify him. The officers at the bank passed along a message to the officer with the suspect that there was no additional male in a red Honda. It was a completely bogus story. >> So people in the bank verified that you were there with somebody else. I listen. So, the one guy I was talking about my I was talking to him about my account with my Chase um Southwest card and then um Jeffy was talking to another guy and then he went to the drive-thru and then when I came outside um I said, "What's going on? What's taking so long?" Um and then he was in the car still. I pulled out and he was still there. So, I assume he was still there dealing with the hiding out of the vehicle. >> Huh? And then uh just that is >> Yep. >> That's a positive ID. >> All right, you're good to go. Have a seat back in the car. >> Hold on. Hold on. Be good before you get in the car. Let me take a picture of you. >> I'm wondering now what the hell that text me from. >> And uh once you get in the car >> Yeah. I'll put my hands right out there cuz he keeps when he went away, he was like, "If you just trying to tell me to like go, I'm like, I'll put my hands right out the door." >> The employee verified that he was indeed the man that tried to cash the check from this compromised account. The man's lies were slowly unraveling. The suspect then claimed that his supposed friend, Brian, the red Honda driver, was sending him text messages telling him not to talk to police. >> Just let me see that text he sent you if you don't mind. back some text other people. >> Yeah, texted my mom. She said, "What are you doing?" Let me go back to my text. Why don't you text him? This is the text that I got after I said, "What's going on?" Uh, somebody else text me. Um, if you talk to the I know what that polo, but I know what that means. It's on you. So, I'm not sure what that meant. So, can you can you clear that so I can see who was a sender? >> This is a text that I got from him right now. Was this sender? >> Right there. >> Oh, look. See, look. Um, and stay out of my And stay out of my This is Brian. And stay out of my business if you know what's best, bro. >> So, obviously he's hiding something. >> Yeah. >> Why don't you guys call him? >> Um, I don't know what they've done so far. They've been doing other things. Well, we've been over here talking. >> I was going to say that. And that just came in just now. The cops took Brian's cell phone number and after running it through the system, the number came back and strangely it was registered to a medical facility. The cops then confronted the man about what they'd found. >> Medical facility. >> Yeah. >> How the hell is he texting me from it? >> Well, these officers will be able to No problem. No problem. >> Medical facility. out. >> Sir, you me first. Step out of the vehicle. [Music] >> All right. You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand? >> Say that. >> You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand? >> Okay. You say you were doing business at the bank. Well, >> um I did not take any money out of the bank and I did not try to I was speaking about my Chase rewards card. I think I have it or you have You still have it? I have it. But I was speaking about my Chase account. Um, my Southwest Airlines rewards card. Never asked to take money out or nothing. So that part is >> At any point today, did you fill out a check withdrawal? >> A check? >> A check for withdrawing of money? >> No, I did not fill out any check withdrawals. I had my card go there. I had my card there and I wait a check withdrawal. No. No, but I did my um I was dealing with my Chase um Southwest Airlines card, but I did not. >> Did you fill out any paperwork? I think I did sign for my check um for not a check but for my Chase rewards um to get my loyalty um reward balance. I think I did sign something to get my balance but not a check. Not nothing for a check I signed to withdraw any money. >> No. >> The man continued denying he had anything to do with the attempted check withdrawal of $5,000. But when they pressed him on further details like the ID he'd used at the bank, the man's memory got shaky. >> I didn't have an ID. Wait, did I have Oh, wait. Um I don't think I did my ID. I slid my um I slid my rewards card. I didn't have it. I didn't have no ID. I just have this ID and I don't even think I showed him my ID. I just had my rewards. Um >> I you had my I showed him though. I did show the officer my my check. >> You just keep your hands out your pocket for now. Okay. >> And all I did was slide it on the thing and then um that was it. But I did not withdraw any money or anything like that. No. To confirm accounts, banks require ID from customers to make sure they're talking with the rightful owner. This guy's story just wasn't adding up. Next, the officer confronted the man because his story contradicted the bank managers. >> They described you. They didn't describe your friend. They described you same way they described you right now. They said person with a with a with a tan, a comb over hair, and the the flower shirt. >> But it's not I did not go to any I went to this. Wait, did I go to any other bank? No, I didn't go to any I went to another bank today. I think this morning, but I didn't go to this I didn't go to this bank. >> I'm not saying I'm not saying this bank. >> Oh, >> you went to you went to another bank in Orlando. >> I withdraw money. I have money in my pocket. I did withdraw money today. Um I did withdraw money today from my bank of um this morning. I did withdraw money this morning cuz I have cash on me. But um no, I did not um go to any I did not go to this bank ever before. Just now with him and that's it. And I do not withdraw any money from this bank whatsoever or even tries. Okay. >> I did go in Orlando near my house though to a bank um this morning. I did. >> You've got to admit it was a little suspicious that the man failed to mention he'd already withdrawn money at a different bank earlier that day. What the suspect didn't know was the cops had been at work already gathering tons of incriminating evidence and they were just about ready to make an arrest. >> All right, sir. So, at this time we're we're going to place you under arrest. You understand? >> For what, though? >> Okay. We have enough uh enough evidence right now to place you under arrest. And I didn't do anything, officer, >> for attempting to take money right now. Okay. >> I really didn't, officer. You guys are supposed to be the ones that if you don't do anything wrong and you tell the truth. I've never been in trouble in my life. And I didn't take any money anywhere. >> They described you to a tea. >> And that's just money out of an account. >> So did the other bank location. >> Money out of an account. >> Oh, you attempted to. Okay. So, do me a favor. Just put your hands behind your back. Turn around. >> My car off. >> Oh, we'll do we'll take care of that. Just turn around. Put your hands behind your back. Am >> I getting arrested? >> Turn around. Put your hands behind your back. I'm asking you. Okay. >> Oh my god. The man demanded he be allowed to watch the officer roll his car window up and turn the car off, but he also used that time to try and beg the officers to reconsider the arrest. >> Just have to roll up the window right here and that thing has already been broken. Um, I don't understand, officer, why are you guys arresting when I really didn't do anything? Oh, >> I really didn't. If you have if you guys can do more research or something, I swear to you, please do your research because I've never been First time in my life I'm getting arrested and it's gonna be something I didn't do. I swear to you, I didn't. I don't lie. >> Earlier, the suspect said that the man in the red Honda who'd been texting him and threatening him was named Brian. But when the cops offered to call the man's spouse to come get his Jeep, that's when they learned the spouse's name and it was suspiciously familiar. Um, >> you call my spouse Brian. >> How do you unlock your phone? It's a passcode or phone. >> Well, why do I want to unlock my phone though? >> Oh, yeah. Let me see. >> Yeah. Make sure we do a pat down. >> What? >> Do a pat down. >> You're not going to talk to him right now. >> I can't talk to him. >> No. You'll get a phone call later on. >> As of right now, >> how did they do my phone then? >> We're just calling in regards to this. Okay. Relax. >> We're just calling in regards to your vehicle, man. We're trying to help you out. Okay. >> No, you guys are not. How rude is this? I'm going to call a lawyer then. >> I don't need you texting anyone. >> Well, because you guys are going through all it now and he's being rude to me. >> Do you know her phone number or who you want to come to? >> Yes, my spouse. >> All right. What's the phone number? >> 727. >> One second. >> You've got to wonder if it's coincidence that his friend and his wife both had the same name. Then when the cops began to conduct a search through the man's personal items, he became extremely agitated. >> And why does he keep going in my vehicle, sir? I don't want anybody going in my vehicle without a search warrant. I'm not doing anything. He was the officer that was being mean to me at first, but now you guys are being rude to me for no reason. >> Hopefully he picks it up. >> Can you ask him why he's going out of search in my vehicle? >> Back out of the vehicle >> and I would like him to be out of my vehicle. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Okay. So, he we're allowed to search the vehicle because you're being arrested and the vehicle's being towed. So, he searchs the vehicle. >> He's not being requesting for someone. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> It's being still being searched into arrest. I don't understand why when I talk to you guys and I'm saying that you told the truth when it's funny you got to call >> message. Want to leave a message? >> Ryan, I'm with the police. Call me. >> All right. >> That means you signed a deposit slip requesting for money. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> But I really didn't sign. >> Okay. >> You guys have We do. And we have two people that positively identified you. Okay. >> I signed a deposit slip. >> That's what we have. Okay. >> A withdrawal slip. withdraw. I Yeah, I I'll clarify what it is, but that's what we're working with right now. Okay. >> The suspect didn't deny that he did indeed sign a withdrawal slip, even correcting the officer when erroneously she said it was a deposit slip. He was charged with uttering a false instrument and criminal use of personal identification information. On the 8th of April 2024, a woman contacted another person on Craigslist, tried to buy a car that was listed for sale. When the woman met up with the owner, she asked to take it for a test drive and never came back. The owner called police, of course, and they located the woman. >> What's going on, my man? You just riding in the car by yourself? Like, I didn't see you jump over. >> No. >> Get out the car. >> That wasn't me. >> Yeah, it was. >> No, it wasn't. >> All right. Who was it then? >> They just went in there. >> No, they didn't. >> No, they did. >> Why are you lying to me? Stop reaching around the car. >> Huh? >> Stop reaching around the car. >> Okay. >> Car be on uh Buick Lasaber King Henry Nora 8107 coming back stolen. >> This woman thought she could get away by pretending someone else was driving the car. She then claimed that the owner of the vehicle let her drive off alone to the gas station. >> Why would they let you pull off with the car? >> I don't know. What's the problem? >> The car is stolen. >> Huh? >> The car is stolen. >> No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Hold on. >> Put your hand behind your back. >> I'm not You didn't see me driving the car. >> Okay. Yes, please. No one got out of the car. >> All right. Just go ahead. Put your hand. >> Someone did get out the car. >> Okay. Where' they go? >> The hill. >> Where' they go? >> Right here. >> Who is it? right there. >> What's their name? >> Here, put your put your hands together like you pray. >> No, cuz I didn't do anything. >> Stop. Stop. >> Get off of me. You can't arrest me for not driving. >> You're being detained right now. >> I didn't do anything. >> Okay. >> This situation was cracking the officer up because he couldn't believe the woman thought she could get away with this stunt. The woman then claimed the owner gave the car to her, so it was hers already. >> I have the title for the car. >> You have it in hand? >> Yes. She just gave me this car. >> Okay. Where's the Where's the title at? >> Can I get the car? Can I get the title? She just gave me >> I can I can get it for you. >> She just gave me Where is it? >> Just stay right there. You can just tell me verbalize. >> Right in my purse. She literally just gave it >> in your purse. The camo purse. >> You want me to grab it for you? >> This is only supposed to be a test drive >> and my boyfriend was in the house. If she really thought the car was legally hers, then why did she jump in the passenger seat and deny being the driver? The officer opened the car to get her purse out. But there were multiple purses inside that the woman claimed didn't belong to her. And it was just one more detail that just wasn't adding up. >> This is bull. >> I'd say so myself. >> Hold on. I'm I'm not running. Come. I'm trying to get you the title, sir. >> Where's the title? >> How long have you had the car? like five minutes. >> Literally a test drive. Hold on. >> You know the name of person you got it from? >> Pat. >> It's right. Hold on. It's a It's a >> It's a a female. >> What? Hold on. >> I'm getting the title. >> You're not You're not going in the car. >> The title right there >> in this thing? >> Yes. The cop examined the title and he reminded the woman that simply possessing it did not prove ownership. Unless her name was actually on it, waving it around in her hand did nothing to support the woman's innocence. >> I don't understand why you lied and say somebody else was driving it and then you told me you was test driving. >> Well, I was taking it to the mechanic to have him look. >> Why lie? You see where you already compounded a lie? >> I compounded a lie because >> why' you jump over in the passenger seat then? >> Because I haven't got the title transferred yet. You said nothing about test driving it until you found out it was stolen. >> Well, that's because y'all just said it's stolen. But I titled Why did you hop over in the passenger seat? >> Who was driving the car >> earlier? With you? Anybody or no? >> My boyfriend told me come meet him over here to have a mechanic look at it. >> Who's your boyfriend? >> They didn't tell me nothing about it being stolen. >> My boyfriend's name is Terrence. >> Terrence what? >> Terrence Mitchell. He's told me to come get it. >> Come get it. Look, Miranda. For what? >> You're under arrest. >> For what? >> I have the title right there. This is not a stolen car. >> The title in your name. >> The I'm test driving it. How the am I supposed to car? >> They setting me up. >> What's up? >> I don't have my Can I get your >> I can't go to jail for being having a stolen car and I didn't even I haven't even bought the car yet. >> Well, you don't. >> But I have the title. >> You don't buy stolen cars. Despite the officers making logical points, the woman didn't seem to comprehend them. And when they escorted the woman to a squad car, she demanded they give back her personal items and got extremely aggressive. >> I'm test driving the car that was given to me with the title. Okay, but that's No, that's a setup. >> That is a setup. >> I completely understand. >> So why the am I going to jail when they just set me up? >> No. That get off of me. No, get off of me. >> Stop, miss. >> I don't have no right to be arrested and I wasn't driving. Calm down. Calm down. I'm going to read you, Miranda. Maybe we can unarrest me because I wasn't driving the car. >> Miss Miss, >> just calm down. >> I done been through enough. And y'all keeping me over. That motherucker just gave me that car with the title and I didn't even buy it and took my money. How the am I going to jail? >> How much did you pay for the car? >> The hell? I haven't even bought it yet. >> How much is he asking? >> He only want 300. >> So, who is this? No, no, no, no. >> The woman seemed to think that being loud and throwing a tantrum was going to convince the cops to let her go. And she continued to make things more difficult when her aggressiveness turned out to be flatout violent. >> No, I'd rather before I go to jail. No. >> Y people all the time. Y people all the time. Please take my life because I want to I don't want to live. >> You going to get robbed. >> I don't want to live. >> They took everything from me. >> Here, I'm going. >> They taking everything from me. No, they took it all. I want to I want you to >> turn that back. >> The devil didn't look at my face. Look what he did to me. >> During their altercation, the woman tried to bite one of the officers. To continue investigating, they left the woman in the back of a squad car, but it didn't stop the woman from screaming at the top of her lungs while simultaneously trying to get out of her handcuffs. >> Mother, you [ __ ] just want to get hurt me. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I ain't drove and call the police on me. I hope you I hope you that junky that just sold her and I couldn't even test. You going to call the police on me? help you. I have no right to be arrested. >> I want to be unarrested. That's not fair. >> I would rather die then go back to jail. I will kill myself in this. If I go to jail for nothing, >> open your ears and close your mouth. Okay. Now, listen to how I'm going to explain this to you. In order for us to talk to you about who set you up, we have to read this to you. >> Do you see my face? >> You have to verbally say you understand or you do not understand and you have to verbally tell us that you want to talk to us or you do not want to talk to us. >> After a long back and forth, she finally calmed down enough to hear what the officers were saying. She then agreed to talk with the officers about exactly what happened when she picked up the car. >> The car was posted on Craigslist for sales. >> Uhhuh. >> I met them at the BP. That's it. I was told to take it to the mechanic to have it looked over. >> I've just got out the county homeless with nothing. Okay. >> And I've been on the streets. I have a book bag and they told me to test drive it and take it to the mechanic. >> My boyfriend. >> The woman admitted she'd just gotten out of jail and had no place to live. The cops suspected that was her motive for stealing the vehicle. The woman claimed her boyfriend Terrence had organized the entire thing. >> Um, was he driving the vehicle earlier? >> Yeah. >> So, who was was he in the vehicle with anyone else or was it just him? >> It was just him. >> So, he was the only one driving the vehicle? >> Yes. >> Who Who sold the vehicle to him? How did he get the vehicle? >> He He said we was only test driving it. That's why he had the title. Oh, >> okay. How long has he had the vehicle today? >> I'm not sure. I'm not sure. Like I literally >> You just met up with >> I just met him. >> You just met up with him? >> Yes. >> Where did you meet up with him? >> Like at the BP. >> You met him at >> I've been walking. I literally just met him. >> How much were you supposed to buy the car for? >> He said 300. >> 300. >> All I got is my book bag and my purse. That's it. Like that's not my car. I ain't got the car, but I didn't steal it. The cops asked the woman if she had the correspondence from Craigslist and she said she didn't. She was also asked about the status of her license and she said she didn't have one due to previous court incidents but was planning on getting one in time to purchase the car which once again made no sense at all. goddamn mother to me and can't hurt me. Mother, get me out of this. No, I don't deserve to go to jail. You can't even say what the you arrested me for. I don't want to say more. God, I don't want to. God damn it. I don't want to have no >> miss. We gonna get you out of here. Okay. You gonna walk on your own? You ready? >> No, I'm not ready. I just dance in this. >> Okay. >> The you mean, man? >> Okay. >> Get off of me. >> You didn't see me. I'm just here. Right. As she yelled her way inside, she made quite the entrance into jail for herself. They charged the woman with abuse, probation violation, grand theft auto, and receiving stolen property. On December 5th, 2024, in Orman Beach, Florida, a warrant was issued for a man named Jason Valiant. They located the man at a gas station where they eventually found out how awful his crimes really were. [Music] Hey, how's it going, boss? >> Hey, how's it going off? >> Good. Sergeant Weaver, the sheriff's office. Can you unlock the car for me? >> Yes, sir. >> Here, hop out for me. What's your name, buddy? >> Jason. >> Jason. Valiant. >> Yes, sir. >> All right. >> You can leave this right here. Just hop out for me real quick. Hop out for me. >> Oh, okay. Hop out for me. All right. Turn around. this car for me. >> Yeah. >> Bring your hands back behind your back. Interlace your fingers like you're praying. Oh, no. >> All right, boss. You got a warrant for your arrest out of Valuchia County. Okay. >> Yes, sir. >> Jason was supposed to represent a couple who were sick and elderly in selling their properties, but hidden in the fine print of the documents were some clauses he had them sign that made Jason their healthc care proxy and their power of attorney. With that authority, he secretly transferred all their assets worth $1.6 million into his own name. >> And my prescription in case I get sick if I don't have it. >> No, I can just take one now. I just It's just my suboxins if I could take one now. >> Yeah, it should be in there. >> Do I have a bond yet? >> Oh, you have a bond? >> Would you like to know how much it is? >> Yes, please. >> $375,000. >> Would you like to know what this is about? >> Yes, please. This is about you taking advantage of two helpless individuals when they went to the hospital. This is about you taking advantage of two people when they were at their most vulnerable. Okay? But there was one thing you weren't counting on. God was watching you. You're going to go to prison for a long time. Okay? Wrap your head around that man. You're going to have this to go to the jail with. I'll have that because we do forensic. >> Hey J. Are they going to let you go or what are you going to do? >> Okay. >> The man's nonchalant attitude indicated that he felt zero remorse for what he'd done. Not only did he drain their bank accounts, Jason even took their Dodge Ram pickup for his own personal use. He also used the couple's credit cards for attorney fees, auto detailing, a teeth whitening procedure, dinner and drinks, and gasoline for the vehicle. Man, I wish I would have taken that medicine. >> So, she's going to bring it to the jail. >> Yeah, but they won't let you have it. >> Really? >> Yeah, they got medical personnel. >> No, they won't let you. >> Yeah, you know that from experience. >> I don't know about I don't know about our iss >> because they worry about what's in that bottle. >> Exactly. Yeah. might not be, but they'll verify and they'll >> but they won't let you through and that's fine. >> Jason indicated that before this incident, he'd had plenty of experience with jail. It also came to light that he and his business partner Connie Kelner were developing the property he took from the couple into very expensive condos. >> Just on the news though, living in that place. >> Yeah, we had >> But you don't have to shooter. But you don't live there. >> No. >> All right. >> Yeah. Right. >> Hey, bring like clothes like long sleeve shirt cuz you have to be all white. >> So call the jail and say what clothes do you bring. is usually all white long sleeves like Hayne's like Hayne's um under roof, you know, like Hayne's long johns. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I love you, baby. >> However, for Jason, it was not going to be all okay. He didn't seem to realize how severe his crimes were and that he was in for harsh punishment. He was acting like he was going on vacation. And right about then, the cops informed him that it was time to go to jail. Man, they brought out everybody, huh? >> Yeah. I don't I don't I'm not even a part of all this. I'm just happen to uh What's that? >> That's not even violent. >> I know, but I I don't know what's going on. I don't I just happen to be here in the area. >> Could you pull my hat down a little bit like where my ears are a little bit warmer? >> So, this is tight squeeze in the back of this car. >> Yeah. >> So, um >> you're probably somewhere. There's no way. >> No, you're going to have to hold it. Um, >> you want to go in backwards? >> If you want to go in rear end first. >> Yeah. >> And then just slide yourself across the seat. >> As more of his horrifying crimes came to light, one specific crimes showed just how depraved he was. He signed a DNR or do not resuscitate document for one of his victims who'd been in the hospital and was taken off life support the day before his arrest. Am I getting a felony charges or misdemeanor? >> Uh, with a bond like that, I'm imagine it's going to be felony. >> Yeah. So, when you go to the jail there, where do they put you for when they segregate you? >> What do you mean? >> Like violent offenders, nonviolent. >> I I couldn't tell you that. I don't even know if they even do that there. Unless you're acting fool, then then they put you where they need you. >> Oh man, what a way to spend Christmas. How's my girl? Does she get to drive away? Yeah, she's gone. >> Man, that was >> What did they tell you guys that they brought so many? >> I have no idea what's going on, >> man. I wonder what they charge me with to make a bond 300,000. Can you look it up and see what it is? >> Yeah, give me one sec. >> Thanks. >> Organized scheme to defraud and grand theft and exploitation >> of an adult. Grand theft, fraudulent use of personal ID, and fraudulent use of credit card. That's your charges. >> Oh man, that detective was so happy, too. He told me, he's like, "I'm going to get you." >> Jason smiled and was laughing at the charges, almost like he was happy that he made the sheriff's office so upset. He then asked the cops to Google his girlfriend's phone number for him so he could save it for later. He also asked the officer to look up Connie Kelner's number. I appreciate you, man. I'm sorry this just happened. I had an attorney and everything. I thought they would call and we could do a walk through and I'd be prepared. Do they have a warrant out for Connie? >> Yeah. >> How do you search for a warrant if there's a warrant for someone else? >> Uh, I think if it's a Florida warrant, you can go to the one of the >> Could you look it up if I gave you a name? >> Yeah, >> I know. I know you're doing I'm sorry. I was just thinking of stuff. Can you look up on the database and see if she has a warrant? Connie >> Ker all of her information? >> Uhhuh. >> What was the last name again? >> Kelner. K E L L N E R. First name is Constance. C O N S T A N C E. >> Middle name. Her initial >> I don't know. There can't be too many constants calendars in Palm Coast. >> Your birthday? Oh, like 75 years ago. She's like 70. >> I need >> I need like a a middle initial and the date of birth. >> Is that phone number that we just looked up? Conner realtor. She Man, I hope she doesn't. >> Oh man, I can't believe this is happening. I just got to stay calm. Jason was charged with organized fraud, exploitation of a vulnerable adult, grand theft auto, grand theft over $100,000, criminal use of ID, and illegally using credit cards. It was also discovered that his partner Connie was aware of what he was up to, and she got a charge of accessory after the fact. On the 30th of May 2024, in the middle of the day, the cops were called about an unwanted guest at a Popeye's restaurant. A customer was causing a disturbance and the employees needed law enforcement to help get her out. >> Another driver. I'm on the phone with Uber and she won't leave. >> You want to come out and talk to me? >> And she just informed me that you have >> Can you come out and talk to me, please? >> Uh, let me Bam. Listen to me. I'm asking you to come outside. >> I'm working. >> I understand that. But I need you to come outside cuz we need to talk and you need to come outside right now. >> But I'm working. >> Okay. >> Do you want me this This is Listen. This is them on the phone right now. Hello. >> They're asking you to leave. >> Can you talk here? This is them. >> They're asking you to leave. >> This is them. Talk to them. This is my manager right here. Talk to my manager. >> The business is asking you to leave and I'm asking you to leave right now. If you don't leave, you're going to handcuff. >> You cannot arrest me. Am I doing handcuffs? >> You cannot arrest me. >> Actually, he can. If a private business asks someone to leave and they refuse, they can arrest them and remove the person from the business. The name of this unruly woman is Stephanie Ward, and she didn't seem to care for or respect the cop's request. >> You're trespassing. I'm asking you to leave. It's your last chance. Okay, turn around. >> Hello. They are arresting me. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Stop. They are trying to break my wrist right now. >> Do you hear me? >> Don't hang up on them. Why would you hang up? >> Is you trying to break my wrist? >> Yeah, you you got it. You do. The cops escorted Stephanie out of the restaurant and they were moving toward a squad car. When she got closer and closer to it, she got extremely violent and unhinged. >> Your phone's right here. >> Yeah, I'm going to need that. I'm going to need that for evidence. I'm going definitely need that for evidence. So, don't lose it. Keep that with me. >> Your hands up double lock the cuffs. They don't tighten up on you. >> How y'all even arresting me and I'm at work right now? >> I told you to leave. You didn't leave. >> It does not matter. I told you what I was doing. >> Sit in the car. You you what you doing is under arrest. It's against the law. >> You're right. You are under arrest. >> It's against the law. You need to be under arrest. >> All right. >> Stephanie kicked the officer in the face, causing his sunglasses to fly off. After ensuring his partner was okay, Officer Reese went inside to talk to the employees to get their side of the story. >> So, that's pretty much what happened. She these two orders right here, >> we made them. She >> at the moment that we asked her to confirm the order. >> Show us show us the order. Okay. >> Um cuz I can't they get out there and they unassign the order and then they keep the food and then we have eight other drivers coming back and then we also now get penalized for it because they don't know who's selling the truth. Did we give them a food? Did they eat? You get what I'm saying? So they will deactivate our account when they do that. So we're very adamant about making them confirm the orders. Now, you have to show us that you've confirmed the order or you don't get the bag, right? >> And so, she got pissy because >> we wouldn't give her the bag. >> The manager claims Stephanie refused to show her that she confirmed the order, which would let the Uber Eats app know that Stephanie did indeed pick the bag up. One option is that she didn't want to confirm the order so she could later unassign it and keep the food for herself >> and say that, "Oh, I didn't go pick it up. >> You know, I waited. It took too long. Now, I no longer want to wait on this order." You get what I'm saying? And then they eat the food. >> Okay. >> So now we get penalized for that. I can't have those breaks and then she was she just being argumentative and you told her, "Okay, I'm done." >> Yeah. And to leave and she wouldn't leave. And she parked over there. She kind of walked around the store a little bit and then she went over there and and sat out. All she had to simply do was just friend the order person. >> Did she damage anything? >> She did not. I'm trying to change the culture. >> What's that? I'm trying too hard to change the culture in this damn school for them to come in here and act like that like I can't >> I'm glad we put her in cuffs because that makes a little bit of a >> store was about to I can't even have that energy in here because like >> the neighbor >> the manager here did the right thing. She was not going to let this woman create problems for her business or get away with being so disrespectful. Officer Reese left the Popeye's going back to check on the other officer and Stephanie. And by the looks of it, she had definitely not calmed down. >> You ID her yet? >> What's that? >> Do you ID her yet? >> No. >> I don't know if maybe you can start. So, >> hello. I need your name, your badge number. >> I'll give it to you in a sec. >> I need all of it. I need all of it. I need the ticket. I need the time, the date, everything. I want everything. I want all their names, too. All of their names. It's all going to be in it. >> My name is Stephanie War. My birthday is No, you do not need to know where I live. >> Say birthday. >> I just told you. >> Tell me it again. >> No, too bad. >> Where's your phone number? >> You ain't get that too bad. Okay. >> What else do you need? What you looking for? What? You want a warrant? No. >> Do you want to go to jail? >> Yeah, take me to jail cuz I want to talk to your supervisor. >> Officer Ree explained to her that he could either arrest her and take her to jail or just give her a ticket, but she'd be free to leave. But in Stephanie's fit of rage, she didn't seem to comprehend that the citation was a much better option. >> Don't care what you do. >> Give me your supervisor name. That's what I want. I want his name and phone number on a piece of paper. I want that. I want I want a a a brief number brief business. >> I want something. I need a supervisor. >> All right. What's her state of birth? You don't need nobody. You are corrupt. I can see that myself. >> What does that say? It's a criminal trespass ticket. So, let me explain a couple things to you. >> Criminal trespass. >> Yep. So, the first thing is you're no longer ever welcome back at this business. Okay? You can't come back. If you come back, you'll be arrested or again. Okay? >> Right now, >> arrested or cited again. Which one is it? You got to pick one. Ain't no arrested or cited. >> Well, right now, I'm using my discretion and I'm just giving you a citation. So, you're not going to go to jail for criminal criminal trespassing. No person without privilege to do so. thou knowingly enter or >> remain on the land or promise of another. Okay, >> that that don't even make sense. That makes no sense. >> I don't know how she comprehended it, but it made perfect sense to me. The officer tried to explain to Stephanie just what it all meant, but there was just no getting through to her. She demanded the officer's badge numbers, and when they released her from handcuffs, she went off on the cops, acting like a lunatic. >> You got all your stuff. Otherwise, >> these handcuffs What is taking so long? You you taking forever. I don't know what the hell you created right there. That don't even make sense. >> That's not even im That's not even in English. It's not. You tried to make it complicated. >> But that's all right. I can make it. >> No, no, no, no. You just No, no, no. You You try to make it complicated. You know what you did, but it's cool. Where my phone? Give my phone. >> Have a good day. >> You just throw the phone. >> She tried to grab it and she like swung it. The cops waited for her to drive off, but she was determined to keep arguing, making everybody's lives more difficult for absolutely no reason. The cops just looked at her and kept standing their ground. >> I'm waiting for you to leave, ma'am. Then we can go. >> You can wait. Continue to wait. You waited all this time. Continue. Cuz I'm not going nowhere until I call Uber. >> What's wrong? >> I was at work, dummy. >> What's wrong with the car? I'm not leaving until I can tell them I'm not arrested no more. Dummy stupid. >> I have to contact my boss. Is that okay? It is not just my Stephanie went on with her rant, screaming vile and disgusting insults at them. After being ordered to leave, she made zero attempts to do so. It said she didn't show signs of stopping. Officer Reese radio dispatch then asked permission to arrest her. >> Start. >> Apparently, I'm about to get arrested because I'm trying to talk to >> Start your car and leave >> or you're going to jail. >> Do you hear them? >> One more chance. Start your car and leave or you're going to go to jail. >> Hey, step out. >> Excuse me. Can you hear them? >> Can you hear them? They trying to arrest me, ma'am. >> Did you do you want to get a resisting charge? >> You can't arrest. What if you arrest? Oh, you just threw my phone. Oh, yeah. It's going down now. It's going down. It's going down. You threw my phone. That's private property. You not even allowed to do that. You're not even allowed to do that. Hell no. You threw my phone. Yeah, buddy. It's going down. It really is. Yes, it is. And you arrested me cuz I'm just sitting here trying to call my job. Yes, buddy. Hey, you dumb. I really did not realize that. I gave you the benefit of the doubt. But yeah, you really are dumb, too. Aren't y'all? >> Yeah, y'all are. Y'all are dissing each other in that. >> Y'all gay. Y'all don't like God. Y'all hate God. >> Sit in the car. >> Y'all hate me. >> Sit in the car. >> You hate me. You can't even look me in the eye. Look me in the eye. >> Sit in the car. >> Sit in the car. Y'all hate God and y'all hate yourself. That's why you're lonely. >> You could say Stephanie got exactly what she asked for. As Officer Reese got in the car and started driving her to jail, you could hear Stephanie cackling like crazy. She was later charged with criminal trespass. On September 11th, 2024, a local bank called police after a woman was suspected of cashing a bad check. When the cops arrived, she was still at the bank, but she was asked to step outside so they could talk. >> Yeah. You're not afraid to leave. >> Okay. >> So, >> um, if you want go over here and have a seat. >> Why? Like, >> uh, something about a cashing fraudulent checks. >> Oh, really? >> We're not going in there. We'll sit out here. How is it? How is it a fraud on the check? >> I don't know. Are Were you in there to cash a check? >> I was just asking her about it. Like, how would I go about cashing it? >> Okay. Well, >> I'm going to I'm going to read you your rights real quick. Okay. >> The checks were signed by two people. This woman and another man. The problem was the man was actually deceased. Clearly, he was in no shape to be writing checks. After reading the woman her rights, the cop then tried to get her side of the story. >> Like me look at the checks? >> Yeah. Yeah. I just got it from my bank a little while ago. That's the only one I got. >> Okay. So, who's Johnny Henderson? >> That's the man that I take care of. He's in nursing home right now. >> Okay. Why do you have his ID and everything? >> Cuz I have all his stuff where our house burned down. Are you are you like a power of attorney or >> No, that's what I will be. >> Okay. But you're not one current. >> No. >> Okay. >> I had deposit that into my bank. >> This? >> Yeah. And I went and got it today cuz they they couldn't cash it. They wanted him on my bank account. >> The woman claimed that she couldn't add the man to her bank account because he lived in a nursing home. She said the man had a brother and she first had to speak with him before she became power of attorney. I just asked that you knew how I could cash it because I have cashed his checks. I just got that from my bank today. >> Okay. She's not a power attorney or anything. >> No, I take been taking care of him. >> Taking care of >> I am his um his emergency contact on his paperwork. I I am beneficiary too of you know I got paperwork for that too. See, what happened was I went and I deposited that like a little over a week ago at my bank at Bent County. And >> this one? >> Yeah. And they they give it back to me because um what happened was I draw money out of my bank account Saturday and then Sunday I went to go get some gas and it said that the money I had drawled out Saturday was negative. And I'm like, why am I negative if I had that check in there? It was most likely negative because the bank flagged the check and had withdrawn the fraudulent amount. The woman claimed that she'd signed the man's checks for him before and the officer asked her if she had permission from the man to be handling his affairs. >> Yes. Yes. Yep. >> Her dad talked to him recently about that. >> Uh well, it's been that's old. You see how the date on that check? That's back when that cuz we I I'm not haven't got one for this for the last few months now because the nursing home. >> Okay. >> That's old from when I was you know he was home. >> Yeah. So, >> okay. He's giving you permission to endorse this and everything. >> Yeah, he's Yep. I There's paperwork where he's at the um his bank where I have signed his checks, too. I'm allowed to. I'm the only one that's left. >> When's the last time you spoke to him? >> Um it's probably been two weeks now. >> The woman said the man was 92, but suffered from a very bad urinary tract infection that sometimes led him to forget who she was. To get the employee side of the story, the officer went back in the bank. We have a ongoing case with detective. >> I spoke to him on the way up here. Yes. I had I had a good indication of kind of what's going on. Okay. Um can I grab your um name and stuff? >> That's a good catch. >> Yeah, I was super nervous. >> I didn't want her to leave know that we were trying to get her so bad for so long. And >> what did you what did you tell her to >> Well, I kind of stalled with the I had a customer before her and I was like, "Oh, I have to get the safe open." And so I went back. >> So you knew she you knew who she was. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Cuz I cashed the majority of the checks and it pisses me off that, you know, >> the employees did a hell of a job here trying to stall the woman while they waited for police. As the cops had all the evidence they needed, the officer went back outside ready to arrest this prolific scammer. >> All right, stand up here. Put your hands on your back. Turn around. >> Like Can I call my mom or something? >> Oh, we're under arrest for forgery. >> Oh, wow. >> Anything illegal on you? >> No. >> Nothing in your bra or in your pockets or anything like that? >> Okay. Uh the reason I'm telling you that obviously you're going to jail. So if you have anything in your bra or in your person or in your body or anything like that, you go to jail, it's conveyance. >> Anything in your purse? >> No, I don't. No. >> No. But can I please have a cigarette? >> The woman said the car was her cousins who was aware she was driving it. As they did their due diligence, the cops ran the car's license plate to find out who the owner was. Ironically, the car had a sticker on the back that said, "Support the police. King David Boy 613. King David Boy 613. She still has his van. >> Yeah. >> She says yes. What van is he talking about? >> The red It's our house. The build the Johnny. >> Okay. >> I drive it usually. Well, Johnny's >> Yeah. >> So, so there's that. >> Oh, so all Yeah. Well, he is under No, he's been in there. >> Yeah. Yeah. When >> they didn't come tell me. >> When did When did Johnny >> He didn't come. They didn't come tell me. >> He didn't come tell me. >> Yeah. But you knew. How'd you know? >> How do I know what? >> How'd you know that he was dead? >> I didn't. But you just told me. I said >> You just said yes. You knew he was dead. >> I said, "Is he dead?" I I didn't know that he was dead. I swear. >> Yeah. You just said, "Yeah, he's dead." >> Are you serious? >> That was crazy. >> The cops weren't taking her seriously with all this crying because her first reaction was so nonchalant. She continued crying, saying again she'd spoken to the man just 2 weeks earlier. However, the cop was quick to call her out on that lie, too. >> You said two weeks ago. >> Yes. It's been a little bit at least that. >> Yeah. Two weeks ago. >> Yeah. It's been I I'm positive. Yeah. Well, he he died. >> I called his phone number and talked to him and he was going a little looting and I phone up because I can't I don't want Bill not to know who I am. I can't talk to him like that. >> Well, he died over a month and a half ago. >> Well, then that's the room number that I got. It's not I have to show you my phone number I call >> that guy did not know me is >> I don't have a good number for her. >> That's crazy. >> Clear. Why would his brother not come tell me? >> His brother would come tell me. >> I don't think she talked to Johnny two weeks ago. >> Plot twist. Do you like that? >> Yeah. I talked to men on the way up here and knew >> you were you were like cuz she's out here like oh yeah like you know I talk to him every day blah blah blah and then you're like he's been dead. >> The scammer thought she could manipulate the cops by pretending to be a caring woman helping an elderly man. But the truth was she was trying to steal all the man's money. The cops also noticed similarities between the victim's signature and the woman's. So she was also charged with forgery. On the 6th of June 2024, a woman went to a furniture store and was browsing the merchandise. The employees realized they recognized the woman and a year earlier she defrauded them out of $30,000. They immediately notified police. >> They recognized because they've been passing the pictures around. They think she's probably about to do something today. That's why they called. They just want her IDed and escorted out. He's deciding if he wants him actually trespass or not, but at the very least, we can try to ID him. Sounds like she has a couple different aliases. Trespass will give us the hard cement of we need to get your ID because we need put on record. >> One with the hat on. >> Copy. >> So we can they want the trespass to be issued for >> Hey ma'am. Can I talk to you? >> Yeah. >> Do you have an ID on you? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. So the store is telling us that there's something going on between you and them. >> Me and them? >> Yeah, that's what they're telling us. So >> I've never done nothing. I'm confused. >> The woman said her ID card was in her vehicle, which already was suspicious because it should have been in her purse, which she was carrying with her. But the really odd thing was the woman's reaction after being told she was under investigation. >> Or investigating you for some kind of fraud or something like that. >> So about >> I'm just telling you what they told me. >> What's your name, date of birth? >> You want to write it though for me? Do you have an ID on you as well? >> I was talking to her. >> What's that? >> Look, I just explained to her. You guys, >> the store is suspecting you of some kind of fraud. Like I said, >> never. They calmly explained to the woman that her race had nothing to do with it. She'd been flagged in their security system due to an alleged fraud incident at another location. >> They recognized you, so they called us. >> No, never. >> Do you have a middle initial, ma'am? >> Yeah. >> Middle season, bro. >> Do you have your ID, ma'am? apology from who? >> Is your middle initial Z or >> L? Do you think that's her? First one. >> When the officer asked the second woman for her ID, he noticed she had an additional ID inside her purse. The cop suspected they might be giving fake names, trying to stop the officers from checking their records. So I don't think that first one I don't think that's her but I have no way to determine that at this point because on her file she's 22. She look 22 to you. She looks a lot older than that. >> So >> she looks about 30. >> Um I just asked Maladon's girl to see if there's any kind of active investigation. >> Check and see. >> Yeah, I'll go check. I'll talk to her. Um I also a little trick I learned. If it isn't her on camera, she just wrote down that name. That piece of paper will go in evidence. >> Yeah. In fact, isn't >> Yeah. And she gave me this. >> Well, yeah, but still. >> Yeah. >> So, there's no reason why they're telling me that you guys are reinvestigated for fraud. >> And then he just said they're going to give us no trespassing for what? >> Well, again, they have enough to believe that you have committed fraud at other locations, right? That's again why they're calling us in the first place at all. Otherwise, we wouldn't be here if they didn't. >> I didn't even know that that was a thing. Like to suspect somebody that never even To suspect somebody of something, you don't necessarily need to >> know 100% that they committed. >> The officer explained that a crime was being investigated and the store had every right to call police. Furthermore, because they had photos of the women from the previous incident, it further legitimized their investigation. >> What's a good phone number for you? >> My partner's asking. Plus, we're going to make a report just to document everything. So, they need to At this point, I feel >> we're investigating the possibility of a fraud being committed. >> Possibility of a fraud investigating. >> So, this is the thing. Where does a no trespass come in? >> How do you mean >> where does the no trespass come in? No trespass or order. >> It's just a piece of paper that we're going to give to you. You're going to sign it. You just get a piece of paper. It says if you come back here, you're liable to be arrested for trespass. Little did they know that the other officer ran the name on one of the IDs and found the real woman's contact info. He called the woman and the woman verified her information, but she then put the officer on hold. The question is, is all this enough to make an arrest. >> Hey, so I just want to run this by you. We got the call from Great Escape who said within the past couple days their Donna's Grove location um at their Donna's Grove location, one of these individuals uh committed a fraud via financing. and she has a bunch of different aliases and >> looks like Wells Fargo is also investigating her and she's like different accounts open with them and not really sure how they go through but that's what's been going on. >> He's on his way. >> Did you find anything else out? >> Huh? You find anything else out? >> Uh we got disconnected. I'm trying to call her back >> understandably. So >> I think we have enough to back in. >> I think so. I think she's uh the one I talked to. No one didn't want giving me any information because a random guy just called her asking for information. Say, "I get it. I get it." >> The cops had to wait for their supervisor to come down to the scene. And at the very same time, they had to keep these women there. But as the time passed by, the more anxious the women got about the severity of the situation, and one of them decided to flee. We got one runner. >> Get on the ground. Do it now. Get on the ground. >> Stay down. You're under arrest. Cuffs. Go check on her. Stop pulling. Stop reaching. Reach up. Tuck your knee. Tuck your knee and roll. >> Do you have shoes on? >> I don't. >> Stop. I want away from you. Stop pulling my >> I am not I'm locking you into my squad. I got it. I got it. >> Let's go. >> Hey, do not move. >> Stop talking. >> Do not move. >> Stop talking to me like that. >> No. >> Nothing says you're guilty like running from police. The woman even had the audacity to tell the cops that she wanted to file a complaint. The cops put her in the squad car and read the woman her Miranda rights. >> It was just like really hot in the way you guys were manhandling me. >> Okay. >> And like these cuffs are too tight and I asked you guys to loosen them several times. >> No. >> And no one loosened them. >> I can I can work with you on that. You never ask that. So we'll we'll we'll make that adjustment as soon as I can get another officer over here. Currently, you're in custody for uh resisting and for obstructing identification. You fled from us. You went running. You're using somebody else's identification. What is your real name? >> I don't have a lawyer present. >> Okay. So, you don't want to speak to me without a lawyer present. That's what you're saying? >> You have to >> the the cuffs are way too tight. >> Okay. I can as soon as I can get an officer over here to safely facilitate loosening those, I will. And I don't have any shoes on. >> We'll work on the shoes. Just turn it face that way and I'll adjust them. >> You have plenty of room in here. I'm not going to adjust these anymore. >> Since she already tried to run when she asked the cop to loosen her handcuffs, naturally, he was suspicious. She then changed tactics, saying the other woman was her sister, then asking the officer to bring her over so they could talk. >> Can you let her know to come here? >> Let her know to come here. She's not going to talk to you while you're cussing. So, you can't let her know that from there? >> Nope. >> Okay. >> I'm not going to allow her to talk to you right now. >> Okay. >> How old is your uh This has nothing to do with the crime at hand. How old is your daughter that you said you have to pick up at 7? >> That's what I need her to do. Go and pick her up. >> Okay. How old is she? >> It doesn't matter. I need her to go and pick her up. >> Okay. So, you're not going to tell her to pick her up for me? >> I'll let you make a phone call when we get back to the station. >> Okay. Kesha, tell KK don't answer the phone. You heard me. Kesha, tell Pek don't answer. Tell P don't answer the phone. >> So now you're actively obstructing. So I'm telling her, >> do what you have to do, sweetheart, and I'm going to add a charge to you. I'm going to file a complaint. The fact that you guys roughed me up and the fact that you touched my inner thigh. I'm definitely going to file a complaint. >> So thank you on camera. >> Okay. >> Yes. Kha. >> No, her name's Kesha now. Oh, her name's Kesha. You sound so >> her middle name. Duh. >> Oh, let me see. >> Kisha, tell KK, "Don't fa." >> Hey, Kesha. >> Your hat. >> Don't tell Tate. >> The cops drove her to jail where she was fingerprinted and they then discovered she was linked to 10 other aliases from other arrests. They charged the woman with obstruction of justice and obstructing identification. On the 30th of May 2024 in Florida, the cops were called to a bank after reportedly a couple inside was trying to cash a forged check worth $2,500. When the cops first made contact with them, they spontaneously uttered that their sugar daddy had written the check for them. >> All right, this is Corporal Versace. He's gonna he's gonna hang out here with y'all while I go inside. Okay. >> So, she presented this item trying to cash it. When we called the account owner, he's in a rehab facility and he did not issue that item to her. He didn't sign it. This was another check that was presented. >> The man who allegedly wrote these checks to the couple had been in a rehab facility for the last 2 weeks. In addition to one check written out to the woman in the amount of $2,500, there was another check for her male companion, Matthew, written out for $800. >> Y'all hop up for me. Put your cigarette down. >> Turn around. >> Where do I have being detained? >> Detained? >> What's wrong? >> You're both being detained for the moment. I'm going to have some point questions for both of you. I don't want you going anywhere in the meantime. Okay. >> I I didn't do nothing. Relax. Relax. Put your wrist the way you want it. >> All right. Um, you stay 10:12 over here. I want to take him to your car and interview. >> Okay. >> All right. >> What's going on? >> I'll explain. Take a seat on the curb right there. Let's start from the beginning. What brought y'all to the bank today? >> We have to sign a check. >> All right. Who is that check from? >> Sugar Daddy. >> You don't know his name? >> No. >> Okay. comments you keep saying. >> Have you ever received any payments from him >> through about uh I've worked for him before? Yeah. >> When was that? >> Month and a half. >> About a month. Month and a half ago. >> Okay. >> What did you do for him? >> Um just cleaned up your garage. >> Okay. And how did he did he pay you for that work? >> How did he pay you? >> Same thing. Check. >> Check. And you brought it here and cash it? Uh >> no. I put it in my bank account. Oh, see where's your bank? >> What bank do you have? >> TV bank. >> Too bank. Okay. >> He wrote that check to you in like you saw him pull the check out. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> The cop asked Matthew very specific questions trying to catch the man lying about the evidence. The officer asked were the alleged sugar daddy. Thomas currently was. And Matthew said he had no idea and assumed the man was at home. >> Did y'all pick up the check from him today for her? >> No. >> No. When did he give her that check? >> Not sure. So, she's had it >> for her birthday. >> Her birthday is When was her birthday again? >> You don't know. >> So, it was just a little while ago 18th. >> All right. So, here's the issue, right? She brought that check in today. >> Okay. Um, it was flagged by the bank because she's not a >> Why is >> I'm explaining it. All right, you got to let me talk. >> The officer explained that the bank flagged his girlfriend's check because first, she wasn't a customer, and second, the signatures written on the checks did not match Thomas's signature. And last but not least, Thomas doesn't write a check pretty much ever. >> So, they contacted the account holder who said he's currently in a hospital. He never gave her any money. He never gave per permission to use a checkbook and that fraud that check is fraudulent. So I spoke with him >> and they presented me with a check in your name from April 20th said yard work on it. I contacted the account holder which is the same guy. He also said the same thing about you. That check was never written by him. >> We could ride over there, dude. I'll take over dude's house. >> I know where he lives. He's not home. He's in the hospital, like I said. >> All right. >> Noticed the man's face when the officer told him that Thomas was in the hospital. He was clearly caught off guard by the news and didn't have a quick or rehearsed response. The officer went on to explain that Matthew's check from Thomas initially cleared because it was cashed at his own bank and they didn't flag it as fraud till later. >> So, this dude, this this dude this dude that the Thomas Why is he saying that he didn't write us a check? >> You tell me. I don't know anything about this other than what I've just told you. >> How the hell am I to check? >> You tell me again. I don't know. I'm telling you what I have and I'm asking you questions. >> Tell you I'm telling you what I have. >> So, you're telling me that he gave you that check on April 20th for doing yard work at his house? >> At his farm? Yes. >> At his farm? >> Yes. >> Is that in Okala Estates, Little Mexico area? >> Okay. Okay, I'll talk to him again. Um, >> yeah, stand on up. >> You just put you in my car for now. >> What's wrong with this girl? >> Come on. No, don't talk to her. >> The cop put Matthew in the squad car and moved on to interviewing his female companion. The officer initially separated the couple to make sure their testimonies didn't influence each other. It's a common tactic used by police to catch suspects in lies. >> The account holder, what's his name? >> The guy that I got the check from, he said his name is Thomas. >> Thomas, how do you know Thomas? >> How well do I know him? >> How do you know him? >> I kind of cled him a little bit. >> Okay. >> I guess he's my children. >> Okay. Um, is that the extent of your relationship with him? All right. How long has that relationship going? >> Probably a month. >> So, how did you meet? >> When did he give you that check? >> 21st. >> 21st. So, >> 9 days ago. >> If Thomas had been in the hospital for two weeks, and he clearly had, then he couldn't have handed the woman a check back nine days ago. The officer then steered the conversation back toward Matthew, trying to find out what their relationship was. >> Has Matthew ever met Thomas? >> I don't think so. >> All right. Do you and Matthew live together? What's the relationship between you and him? >> It's my ex. >> It's your ex. >> So Thomas gave you that check on the 21st for what? >> For services rendered. >> Not like I guess >> like sugar daddy type stuff. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> That's embarrassing. $2,500 worth. >> Well, I guess >> Has he paid you before? >> I got his first. >> All right. >> Gave you the check on the 21st positive today. Has he ever paid? >> Has he ever paid Matthew for anything? >> Him? >> Yeah. >> No. >> Not that I know of. I mean, I hope not. >> Matthew ever done any work for Thomas? >> I think so. >> When? >> Right. Like right right around like right there. birthday. >> I mean, I don't really know. >> You remember what he did for Don? >> I don't know. >> The date she gave for when Matthew did the work did not match the one Matthew gave. Catching the inconsistency, he let the woman know he was a few steps ahead just to see how she'd react. >> They thought the check was bad. You know, coming from an onacount holder, >> right, >> from an account that never writes checks cuz he doesn't. >> They looked at the just listen to me talk. >> Sorry. They compared signature on these check on this check to p past withdrawal slips signatures did not match. So they went ahead and contacted the account holder. He said he barely knows y'all. He said he's never written you any checks. He's never paid you for anything and we don't have permission to write checks in his name. So that's where we're at. >> I I didn't write the check. >> You did? So, you saw him write the check? >> Yeah, you gave this to me. >> Okay. >> All right. You mind putting her in your car? >> Sure. >> For now. >> Put you in my car. >> I'm continuing my investigation. You're just detaining right now. >> The cops also secured the woman in the backseat of a squad car. They then took a look at her personal items, in particular the woman's purse, which was on the passenger seat of the truck. When Matthew saw the officer, as he was going through the woman's purse, he decided it was time to ask the officer some very telling questions. >> What happens if you do the right check? It's not It's actually the one. Wait, the fraud >> and then that'll be handled in court. >> Wow. Who's going to investigate? >> The state. >> So, I become a victim of this whole thing. >> Well, as of right now, you're my suspect, but I read the checklist. >> Guess what? It It doesn't matter that you wrote it. You're you're uttering a check that was foolish. >> Uttering. >> You're presenting it as if it was legitimate. >> It was that that's what you can say in court. But as of right now, I probably cause for arrest for check. So >> the cops found no evidence in her handbag that connected the woman to the crime. The cops already had enough to charge the couple, but they still had a few other questions. >> How did you become had a relationship with them? How did you >> I met him at I met him at the store >> at the store or just not in the neighborhood? >> I met him I met him at the store and he lives in the neighborhood. That's where I see him. >> What store did you meet him at? >> Publix. This one right here. How long ago was that? Shortly before your birthday. >> Right before my birthday. Yeah. It's already in my It's already in my book. >> When they asked where she met Thomas, she was a little bit hesitant. She might have been searching for the right answer or trying to remember if she'd given a different answer before. Both of them were charged with uttering a false check. All these scammers thought that playing dumb and innocent was their very best tactic to get out of handcuffs. But unfortunately, the crimes they committed were well documented, and there was zero chance they could escape the consequences.
