Get away from me, >> Heather. >> Get away from me. >> Get down, Heather. >> No. >> Heather, stop. Heather, stop. >> I'm not doing anything wrong. >> STOP. [screaming] >> Get away from me. Serial shoplifterss pull the same stunt so many times that they forget it's a crime. Some of them are broke. Some do it for the thrill of it, and others just think that the world owes them a free pass. But their habits create patterns, and these patterns get them caught. This is what happens when serial shoplifterss realize their scheme's been exposed. >> I don't want to go to jail. Please, I don't want to go to jail. >> I don't want to go to jail. Please, please, please, I don't want to go to jail. So, please. On the 18th of July, 2023, the cops were called to a Target store after reports of a woman pushing out a full cart of merchandise. When the officer arrived, no one could explain who made the call or what exactly had happened. So, the cop went straight to the security footage. >> Uh, go back. It's >> like 123. >> Yeah. Yeah. A call came in. Uh, >> she had a ton of soft lines. I don't I couldn't tell you what was in there. I bookmarked her cuz I was dealing with the other this person. >> Yeah, that's going to be cuz I see the green pants. >> I was dealing with >> Okay. While he reviewed the footage, the suspect casually strolled back into the store. She was there for another round, but had changed into a different outfit, most likely thinking that she'd not been noticed the first time. She had no idea, but Target's loss prevention was watching her. >> Right now, she has a blue shirt on. >> Is that you earlier? >> Blue shirt. Do you >> have an item? She just came in. Why did somebody call the shirt came in grabbed the cart and then said to Karen like forgot my she went out the front door >> and she's back in. >> That's the same one that had the bicycle in the store earlier. >> There she is. She got a book bag now. But she did not come in. >> No. Now she's looking for Levis's. They're gone. >> Now she's wearing a backpack and two shoulders. >> Yeah, she's leaving. >> The suspect, later identified as Jasmine, calmly walked out like she'd done it a hundred times before. Like we said, she had no idea she was being watched. And while she thought she'd go unnoticed, things were about to blow up in her face. Turn around. Drop the backpack. >> Turn around. Turn around. Turn around. Turn around. Turn around. >> Stop moving. >> Stop moving. Stop moving. >> Stop moving. >> Stop moving. >> Okay. Can you guys not arrest me, please? Can you not arrest me? >> Can you start arrest me? I'm pregnant. Stop moving. >> [crying] >> You're hurting me. YOU'RE HURTING ME. STOP. [screaming] >> STOP. >> YOU'RE HURTING ME. >> I'll never come back. >> Give me your other arm. Give me your other arm. >> You're pregnant. Stop pregnant. I'm pregnant. Can you stop? >> STOP. WHY AREN'T YOU PREGNANT? STOP. [screaming] >> JASMINE, STOP. >> OKAY. >> STOP. JASMINE, >> I'm pregnant. Can you stop? Are you taking me to jail? >> Stop. Okay. Are you taking me to jail, sir? Are you taking me to jail, sir? Are you taking me to jail, sir? JJ, Simon, show me what the 10 quarter wanted to take. >> Okay. Are you taking me to jail, sir? Are you taking me to jail? That's all I want to know. >> Oh, I'm pregnant, sir. >> Cross your legs. Cross your legs. >> Stand up. Stand up. >> Stand up. >> What are you, sir? >> Stand up. Stay right there. Stay right there. Stop moving. >> Stop moving. >> Stop moving. >> She at first seemed scared, but the woman's panic quickly turned into resistance. She thought if she pled with him enough, she could avoid the consequences. But when so many excuses come out at once, it doesn't look innocent. It just looks desperate. >> Am I going to jail? >> Jasmine, stop. >> Okay, but am I going to jail? >> You're just detained at the moment. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. I apologize. >> Am I going to jail, sir? That's all I want to know. >> You're just being detained at the moment. >> Can I sit down? Please don't take me to jail. Sir, please not take me to jail. >> Stop moving. Can >> you not take me to jail? >> Jasmine, >> I don't want to go to jail, sir. Please, >> stop gripping my fingers. Stop gripping my fingers. Can you not take me to jail, please, sir? Am I going to jail? That's all that I want to know. Am I going to jail? >> Am I going to jail? Am I going to jail, sir? Please, I want to jail. Am I going to jail? I'm asking you. That's all I want to know. >> Give me a minute. We're going to figure it out. Okay. >> As Jasmine twisted, pleaded, and tried to get out of the handcuffs, the officer stayed calm. But even after the fighting stopped, she was still pretty panicked. She was sweaty, jittery, and unfocused. It might not have just been that she feared going to jail because it also resembled withdrawal from drugs. >> Jasmine, >> we saw you on camera. You left here and then you walked back in and you got a backpack and you walked past these doors with a backpack. What were you doing that with that backpack? >> Um, I put stuff in there. I'm sorry. >> I'm sorry. I can't hear you. What' you say? >> Um, I put stuff in there and I apologize. >> You put stuff in there? >> Yeah. >> What kind of stuff? >> Um, just stuff so um just so I can get money to eat and stuff. I'm sorry, sir. I'm supposed to go to detox. I won't ever come back. Please. Did you steal that stuff, Jasmine? >> I was going to take it and I apologize. >> I apologize. I won't come back. Okay. >> She didn't deny stealing and it seemed like she'd say just about anything to avoid going to jail. However, nothing could change the fact that twice in one day she had shoplifted from the same store. >> You want to proceed with charges? Please sir trespass her. She's a repeat one. So yeah. >> Okay. You want to trespass her as well? >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. Jasmine. So you are going to go to jail. >> Okay. I don't want to jail. >> Sir. Sir. >> And then um give me one second. Let me just give my Stop moving. Jasmine, >> stop moving. Please. I won't come back. I promise. >> I'm sorry. I promise I'm supposed to go to detox soon. Please. >> She's moving around there. Stand up. Please, please stop. [crying] >> Let's go. You got to walk. >> Please. >> You're going to get a resisting charge if you don't walk. >> I don't want to go to jail. Please. I don't want to [screaming] go to jail. Sir, >> stop. >> I don't want to go to jail. Please. Please. Please, I don't want to go to jail. So, PLEASE, [screaming] I won't come back. I won't come back, sir. I want >> Get in the car. I'm breaking. >> Get in the car. >> Get in the car. >> Please. Okay. >> Get in the car. >> When she heard the store was pressing charges, she completely lost it. She began kicking, screaming, and begging. But the cops didn't escalate things. They just stayed calm and collected as clearly they'd seen a crash like this one before. >> I'm going to my sweater. >> Stop. >> I don't want to go to jail. >> You shouldn't go. You shouldn't have shoted. >> Please. I'm supposed to go to Ria tomorrow. Please. >> What happened today? >> Please. >> What happened today? >> Please. I want to go to Ria. Please, Z. Please don't take me to jail. >> Hey, stop kicking. >> Oh my god. [screaming] >> Stop. >> No. >> Put her seat belt on. >> What's up? >> Put her seat belt on. >> Yeah. [screaming] >> She says that she she's insisting that she's pregnant. So, I'm just going to take her to trust trust my parents. >> I'll go with you. They take >> please. I don't want to go to jail. Please >> just calm down. >> No, [screaming] please. >> Just calm down. >> I'm supposed to go to teach. >> Okay, stop. >> Please. I want to go to school. >> PLEASE >> JUST CALM DOWN. OKAY. >> THAT kind of meltdown isn't just fear. It's what happens when someone's used to numbing themselves and suddenly realize they can't. The cops didn't push things as they knew that control doesn't always mean taking over. Sometimes you just have to let things die down. >> You're going to get to jail. [screaming] >> You're going to get additional charges. Stop. [crying] >> Just stop. [screaming] >> I don't want TO GO TO JAIL. PLEASE, I don't want to go to jail. I'm sorry, sir. Please. >> You're not helping your case here. >> I don't care. I'm going to >> the way you're acting, we're not going to release you. You got to calm down. >> Tell the jail that. >> I'm not taking her. >> You're acting like you're not. You're trying TO swear to God. You got to stop. Okay. >> STOP BANGING YOUR HEAD. >> NO. [screaming] >> STOP. >> I'm going to I swear to God. >> Please. >> Listen. Oh, why can't we talk? >> What's your name? >> Huh? >> You won't even talk to me, but you want me to release you. She was really becoming a danger to herself, and the officer reminded her that the only thing that might help was calming down a bit. She kept saying she needed rehab, but it's funny how it only came up after they put the handcuffs on her. >> What happened here today at Target? >> I was shopping cuz I have an attach. I'm so stupid. >> Hey, but what were you stealing? >> Um, these clothes so I could get something to eat and make sure I was well, sir. Please, can you just take me a detour? >> Hold on. Listen. >> I don't want to go to jail. >> I need you to take a deep breath. Please. >> Oh, listen to me. >> Okay, >> listen to me. Breathe. >> Breathe. Okay, listen. >> All right. [clears throat] Shoplifting is a petty misdemeanor, okay? But resisting, >> okay? And and criminal damage is is is more. Okay? So, if you continue to resist, we're going to charge you with resisting. I don't think we need listen. Okay? [clears throat] >> And if you damage anything in the back of the cop car, we have to charge you criminal damage. Okay? >> Please. And and that's that's that's going to be >> going to jail, sir. Please sir, >> let me see what you stole. Okay. We still have to take you to get a med clearance. Okay. We still have to take you to hospital and I will check you out. Okay. >> Please, sir. I just want to go to detox. Can you drop me off at detox, please? >> I can't drop you off at detox right now. But what? But listen, I'm going to work with you, okay? You got to work with us. >> Okay. I'm sorry. I need help. So, I don't want to go to jail. >> We're willing to help you. Okay. The cops were trying to help her calm down and try to save the woman from just digging a deeper hole for herself. Still in panic mode, she'd heard just enough to realize he was right. But she was in a downward spiral that had a pace of its own. >> I'm going to put your seatelt on. Okay. >> Okay. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. >> I'm sorry, sir. Please. I just want to go to >> Scoot this way [laughter] for me. >> I don't want to disappoint my mom no more, sir. Please. >> Okay. Sit back for me. Okay. >> [laughter] >> Sir, please. [crying] >> It's okay. Just hang out with me. Okay. >> Jasmine was taken to the hospital, medically cleared, and then booked into jail. She admitted to shoplifting, and got a trespass order and a charge for petty theft. Luckily for her, she didn't get a resisting charge. On February 9th, 2024, a grocery store called police after Heather, a repeat offender with a long history of trespassing, showed up yet again. She was given a chance to walk away quietly, but she wasn't in a mood to listen. >> Heather, come on. Let's go. What happened? What do you mean? What happened? You know you're not supposed to be here. You saw me come back in. >> I don't start soda. >> No, you're trespass. They don't want you here. You're out there solicitating, asking for money. >> No, I was coming to buy a soda. >> Come on, Heather. >> I swear. >> Come on, let's go. >> I swear. Like, I can't. >> Let's go. >> I can't. >> Heather, they don't want you here. >> Heather, there's We're going to step outside. Come on, Heather. Don't start. Heather, please. >> Heather, let's go outside. >> The store made it clear that they wanted to press charges. She was now officially facing arrest, but she seemed a little disconnected from reality, and the officer picked up on it. She spoke gently to her, trying to explain to Heather that it was too late to just walk out. >> This is a business, and they can refuse service and trespass anyone they want. >> Yeah. And they want to press charges. So, >> no, I'm just leaving. >> No, you're not free to go. >> Yes, I am. They just said >> you're not free to go. We're going to walk outside, but you're not free to go, Heather. >> Yes, I am. Guys, leave me alone. I'm not. Get away from me. >> No, you're going to be detained. >> I'm going to go. >> Well, you're going to get charged. >> Well, then write me a ticket. What does that mean? No, >> you're going to get charged. No. So, >> we're going to have to You're going to be detained. So, you're not ready to go yet? >> Yes, I'm leaving >> until Nother, I'm leaving. >> We're going to go outside and then we're going to talk outside. >> No, I got to go. >> We're going to talk outside. >> I'm going to go I'm going to leave. I'm going to go home. >> No, Heather. >> No, I'm going to leave. Okay, Heather. >> No, I'm going to leave. Okay, Heather, I'm going to leave. >> Heather seemed stuck in a loop, like if she walked away, it would make the officer go away. It didn't feel like defiance, and it was more like she wasn't fully processing what was happening. It still didn't change the fact, though, that she'd again broken the law. >> I'm going to leave. >> Heather, I don't No, >> excuse my stop. Heather, come on. Heather, >> get away from me. >> Heather, >> get away from me. >> Get down. Heather, >> no. >> Heather, >> stop. >> Heather, stop. >> I'm not doing anything wrong. >> Heather, get down. >> No. I'm not doing anything wrong. >> Heather, >> stop. >> I'm not doing anything wrong. >> No, >> I'm not doing anything wrong. >> Yeah, we're going to get to >> Heather, >> I'm not doing anything wrong. I'm not doing anything wrong. >> Just calm down. >> With the employees help, the officer managed to get her on the ground, still keeping her tone very calm and steady. Over and over, Heather was repeating the same line like it was some sort of mantra that she desperately needed. >> There's no need for this. >> I'm not doing anything wrong. There's no need for this. >> I'm not doing anything wrong. >> No. Get down, Heather. >> Ow. >> Get down, Heather. >> No. I'm not doing Heather. >> No. >> Heather, come on. >> No. >> I don't want to get in a fight with you, Heather. No. >> Come on. >> I'm not doing anything, bro. >> I'm not doing anything, bro. >> Just get her leg so she doesn't come back. >> I'm not doing anything wrong. >> Heather, please. >> No. >> Turn around, please. >> No, I'm not doing anything wrong. >> Stand up and go. >> No, I'm not doing anything wrong. >> Heather, >> I'm not doing anything wrong. >> Sit here. >> What do you want me to do? Well, the other unit should be pulling up. >> Yeah, >> just hold her feet so she doesn't get up. >> Backup arrived to help with the arrest and she was finally placed in handcuffs. She didn't yell or fight, but in her own rigid way, she just kept on resisting. The officers moved together without missing a beat like they've done it a hundred times before. >> There you go, sir. >> Turn her around. >> Heather, turn around. >> Get her anything, bro. >> Get her feet. >> I got anything, bro. >> We'll turn her to the left. No. >> To the left. >> I'm not doing anything wrong. >> Heather, turn. >> I'm not doing anything wrong. >> No. >> Start turning. >> No. >> Heather, start turning. >> No. >> Heather, come on. >> No, I am not doing anything wrong. >> Heather, come on. >> No. >> There you go, Heather. >> I'm not doing anything wrong. >> No. See, I got her. There you go. >> I'm not doing anything wrong. Okay. All right. Ready? Let's sit you up. >> We're going to sit you up. >> Okay. Stand up. One, two, three. Okay. The other rock. >> Yeah. So, all right. There you go, crew. Even in handcuffs, she was convinced she'd done nothing wrong. She clung to that story like it was her last defense. But sadly for her, what Heather was saying did not match up with reality. She'd been trespassed before. And this wasn't a misunderstanding. It was Heather being in denial. >> I'm not doing anything wrong. >> You know, you're not supposed to be here. >> I did not know that. >> Yes, you do. >> No, I do not. I did not know that. >> Okay, we're going to sit in the unit is what we're going to build. >> Why? I did not do anything, bro. >> Just sit down. Okay. Have a seat. >> Just sit down. Like right there. >> Sit inside. >> Sit. I did not do anything wrong. >> Just put your feet inside. Heather, >> you said just to sit. >> Put your feet inside. >> You said just to sit. >> Crew, please. >> What? >> I've always been respectful to you. >> I'm not doing anything wrong. What do I do? >> You've been trespassed from here. I asked you. Let's just go outside to talk so I can do what we had to do. >> Then let's do that. That's what we did. >> No, you ran. >> This is what you ran. >> Outside. >> Put your feet inside. >> Can you say right one second? Okay. I'll talk to you in a second. Okay. >> Thank you. >> At that point, there wasn't much left to say. The situation was clear. The charges were set. And as for the suspect, she was headed to jail. She'd finally gone quiet, probably realizing it was over. So the reason why you got placed in handcuffs today is because um I don't know you've been trespassed from here. Okay. Um store manager um she provided me a trespass card with your information and you have been advised that you've been trespassed from here. Okay. So that's why that's I want you to know that's why you're in custody. Okay. That's why we're here right now. Okay. I'll switch you inside so I can get those cups and stuff off me. >> Heather was charged with trespassing and resisting arrest. As far as the store went, it wasn't her first visit there, but this was the day that she finally got caught and had to deal with the consequences. Ultimately, what stood out wasn't the struggle, but how hard she pretended that none of it was real. On February 5th, 2025, the cops responded to a theft in progress at a J C Penney at a shopping mall in suburban Illinois. Store security called up to the suspect near the exit just as the cops arrived. I got ahead. >> I'm sorry. I'm not going to do nothing. That's all I took. >> That's all you took? >> Yes. I promise you guys. >> Let's get that. >> Stop. Stop. I'm going to put you in handcuffs. >> Okay. I'm not I'm not >> Okay. >> Sorry. >> Okay. I'm not. >> All right. >> Hey. Hey. I'm just I'm just shy. People looking at me, my friend. >> Okay, then. Let's go back inside. >> We're going back inside. >> Walk with us. Walk with us. As he was led back inside, the man didn't resist. For a moment, it seemed like the arrest might go down easy, but his emotions flipped. He broke down crying, and the cops knew it wouldn't end there. >> I'm just kidding. I promise you. [laughter] Stop. Stop. Stop. [screaming] Morning house. >> Why' you do that? I'm so scared. I'm scared. I'm sorry. >> In seconds, this guy went from sobbing to sprinting, taking off like a panicked child who just got caught misbehaving. One of the cops in full gear was closing the gap with ease. And soon enough, they were walking him to the store to be questioned about his crime. >> Do you have anything else on you? >> No. Turn off. I want to make sure. We're good. I'm going to get them back a little bit. >> Water. >> I don't have any water right here. Do you have any idea on you? >> How old are you? >> 34. >> Homeless or you? >> I'm homeless right now. >> Okay. Where you normally stay? >> Over here by uh >> by what? >> Ky in Chicago. >> Yeah. >> I said nowhere near here. How did you get here today? >> Uh, okay. That makes sense. >> All right. What's your name, my friend? Niku. >> Spell it for me. >> N Ruiz. >> You tell me a fake name. You know you're going to get additional charges, right? This is real. This is you. It's not short for anything. >> Sneaky. >> With things now under control, the cops took his information and ready. Miss Miranda writes, "He admitted what he'd done, and the cops appreciated the honesty." >> Why would you do it, man? It's been cold outside and I'm just trying to get an apartment. A room. >> A room where? >> Anywhere that I could. >> Okay. You said you were homeless, correct? Yeah. >> How long have you been homeless for? >> Since like October. >> October. Where where have you been living before? >> You said we were back in Glendel Heights. >> Glendel Heights. Okay. Why'd you had to move out from there? >> Last time I went down to the Philippines. >> Okay. They sold your house. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, you were just picking up clothing >> for yourself? >> Not to sell? >> To sell it? >> Yeah. >> Who would you sell it to? >> Just people, random people. So, I thought I can like think I can get a room or something >> just to make enough money. >> I guess it's been cold outside. >> Do you have any money on you? >> I do not. >> Zero. >> Yeah. >> So, how do you normally buy things or purchase things? Officially you ask people and I got a link card. >> Okay. Oh, what's what card? >> Link card. >> A link card. Currently, right now, does your link card have any money on it? >> No, I do not. >> This was for report and administrative purposes. I'm going to ask you this question. I want you to be straight up and honest. Do you admit to stealing from JC P? >> Today? Yes, I did. >> Today you did. I appreciate your answer. Thank you. >> The officers asked if there was anything in his bag that they ought to know about. He claimed there was nothing to worry about, but then casually admitted that he had some inside. Funny how there's always money for but not for basic needs. >> Is this stuff yours? >> Yeah. >> Is there anything in there that I should be concerned about? >> Now's your time to tell me. Be honest. All right. Nothing in there. No drugs, no contraband of any sort. >> That's all. >> Just we like some shake or we got some flour. No, >> it's just shakes. >> Just shakes. About how much? How many grams would you say? >> Not even three grams. >> Not even three grams. I'm going to be honest, man. Too much. All right. >> What's that? >> Is your name Jose? >> No, it's Matt. >> Were you ever referred as Jose before? >> No, not your name. >> Nobody says on your ID when you had one. >> Yeah. >> You sure? >> Yeah. It's Nikki Ruiz. >> Was it? >> Nikki Ruiz. >> Nikki Ruiz. >> Have you ever lived on the East Coast? >> No. No. Neither do you. I do not, sir. Ever been arrested for it? >> No, I have not. It's my first time. They charged Nikki with retail theft and possession of can. Not exactly the crime of the century, but enough for a car ride that he won't forget. After all that running and crying, he still ended up in the back of a squad car. On the 7th of May 2025, two women were spotted at a TJ Maxx stuffing their bags with merchandise. They walked right past the registers and headed straight for the exit without paying. They made it to the car, but the cops pulled them over before the engine even warmed up. Hey, no. Step out of the car for me. >> Yes, sir. >> I need a 60. I believe it's going to be them. I got three females in the car. I think they're all involved. >> Where you all coming from? Huh? What? >> No. Okay, quit. I said step out of the car, didn't I? Step out of the car. >> Hey, quit moving around back there. >> Give me another unit here. I've got a bunch of stolen TJ Maxx stuff in the back. that stuff in front of me there. I don't care. >> Passenger, keep your hands on the dash for me. >> You keep your hands on that in front of you. Keep your hands up there in front of you. I said >> she ain't even going in the store. >> I don't care. Got the driver secure and make sure you're compliant. Without moving your hands, where's your ID in the car? >> I don't have one. >> Huh? >> I don't have one. >> You don't have one? So, rental car is showing. Is the rental car in your name? >> Ma'am, keep your hands on the deck. Put your hands up in front of you. I said I don't care who she's calling. You understand? Don't drop your hands. >> The cops double checked with store security to make sure the suspects in the car were also the ones caught on camera. It was clear as day and without hesitation, they handcuffed both of them. They then turned their attention to figuring out exactly who they were. >> They match the description. So, keep your hands over >> here. Just put it right here and get the other one out cuz the other one keeps getting on the phone. Yeah. Hang that phone up. >> Well, we're about to find out. All right. You didn't leave anyone back at >> No, I swear to God, there was three of us in the car. >> The driver here is saying that uh they're all here in the car. They didn't leave anyone behind. Can you do a show up over here? >> The pregnant girl never got out. >> There was two inside the store. >> Me and that girl right now. >> You and the other one? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. All right. I'm going to use the back of my hand just to go over your pockets. Make sure you Is there any anything in the car you know about? >> Yes, sir. >> Yeah. I mean, I can smell it. So, >> all right. Again, back of my hand. Okay. >> I'm not grabbing your butt. >> All right. Turn around and relax. Right here for me. Turn around. Alaska. >> She's saying it was her and another one in the store. She said one in your car. >> There's two in my car. Which one? >> Which TJ Maxx is the stuff in the back from? >> Daytona. >> Daytona. >> You already call out all through the tank. >> I did not. Do you want to run them and ID him and we can go from there? And you're not on probation? >> I'm not on probation, but I am. >> You got open case right now. You got on bond >> driving. >> For driving out of where? Platinum. Well, you said you're palaca. You're from Palaca. Whose name is the car? And >> my sister. Yeah, I'm already sing. >> You're out here committing new crimes when you get sentenced. They ain't going to like that. Sentenced to what? 180 days just for driving. Are you habitual? >> The driver stayed calm, answering questions smoothly without panic or excuses. She obviously knew the drill. And in addition, she definitely knew that the back of their car was loaded with stolen goods just waiting to be found. >> There's a whole bunch of TJ Maxx stuff in the back with tags all thrown on the floor. So, >> do you have a medical card on that vehicle? >> I don't know. >> You don't know? >> Marina, do you have a medical card? >> Expired. Okay. >> This is still got a sticker on it. >> Um, you see all this clothes in the back? They all have TJ Maxx tag. Oh, there's Yeah, they stuffed all the tags. Started stuck in the stuffing the tags in the back pocket here. >> So, the back seat passenger sitting on all those the pregnant one. >> I did ask her, but she's not been randomized yet, but the driver said that they were in the Daytona TJ Maxx before that one. But yeah, you can see there's just TJ Maxx stuff freaking everywhere. Yeah. All freaking tags on it. No bags or no receipt. The backseat of the car looked like a discount rack tipped over and spilled everywhere. When the cops pulled them over, a third girl who was pregnant was sitting on top of the pile. She hadn't been caught on camera stealing, but it was now time to find out if she was really in the dark or if she was just playing dumb. >> You're sitting on a bunch of stolen stuff in the car. >> I didn't steal nothing. >> You're sitting on it all? >> No, I was not sitting on it. I swept over. >> You were in the back seat, right? But that was not my stuff. >> But all this all this clothes right here, you were literally when you got out of the car, you it was behind you. You were sitting on it. >> I literally asked the lady that just took her, I told her when I was sleep, I was laying down on I was not hiding them. I swear. >> So all of it was You were laying on top of all that. >> No, not like to hide it, but I was using cushion to like what? >> And the other thing is all the stolen all the tags that are all pulled off are all right in front of where you're sitting in the back. >> Swiff God, that was not me, sir. >> I mean, you need better friends than I imagined. Right. But they told you I was not I wasn't stealing. Like I wasn't stealing. Like that man could prefer. We go watch those. >> Yeah. You didn't You weren't in there. Correct. >> What happened? >> But you're on top of all the stolen property and stuff. >> No, that was not my stuff. It wasn't like that. That's what I'm trying to say. It was not like that. >> But you're going with them from store to store and they're stealing stuff. >> I was in the back seat. I was not stealing stuff. >> I know you're not getting out, but you're in the car with them going store to store. >> I did not know, sir. I swear for God. I did not know. >> Okay. You got to check it up with the deputy that's investigating it. You ask him. Uh we'll talk to her when she [music] gets back up here. >> Cuz I was not stealing. Like what? I did not do nothing. They could vouch for that. I did not steal. That's not none of my stuff. >> It's not mine. I don't steal. You seen my I don't steal. This not my cup of tea at all. >> The girl in the back seat put on the best show she could and denied having anything to do with it. She looked young and came off as naive. So, the cop kept his tone really slow and patient like he was talking to a child. But it's hard to fake innocence when you're sitting on top of the evidence. >> Why don't you tell him to stop? Why are you with them? >> All she asked me to do was ride with her. I did not know. All she said was, "Please ride with me." I said, "I'm just going to me and her sister." Before she dropped her sister off, she said, "I need one of y'all to ride with me." I was going to go in the house. And she >> in what city? >> Putnham County in Paga. >> I'm not even from here. >> Paga. >> Yeah. I'm from Gainesville. I was just with her cuz that's my child's godmother. All she said was, "I need somebody to ride with." I said, "Okay, cool." >> Problem is is that they come out of here with all this stuff with no bags, no receipts. >> You're laying on top of all of it. >> I wasn't doing it like that to hide it. I was not doing that. That's >> No, but you're laying on top of all of it. It's all stolen stuff. >> Not my stolen. No. Hell no. Not my stolen. Sorry, excuse my French, but not my >> Yeah, I get it. >> No, no, not you're laying on top of it. And then all the tags that are popped off are all in your seat right in front of where you're sitting. >> Hell yeah. >> Hell no. >> No one else is in the back. It's just you. >> Tell you like I did not do that. >> I know. But no one else is in the bag. It's just you. >> You don't think these people they probably did that. I did not do that. Well, I'm going touch that stuff first. I don't want it. It's not my stuff. >> I did not do No, that's not my No. The officer pushed her a little, trying to get her to admit that she knew what was going on. But she stuck to her story and was putting on a clueless act like she just wandered into a crime scene by mistake. >> So the deputy that's investigating it is dropping the witness back off at the store and then they'll come up here and talk to you. But you're under arrest for sure. Are you out on bond right now? Cuz you got a bunch of theft history in tons of tons of different counties. So this is a felony for you for both of them. For you and the girl driver felony? >> Yeah. They've been arrested like she been arrested a bunch for stealing >> like 10 times probably. >> Only one I know is one that is bad though. >> She's been arrested a bunch for stealing too. But you're in the car. You're involved in this. >> Yeah, you're in it whether you want to be or not. I don't think so. Toshi's done. I'm just waiting on them to They got all this stolen property inside the car. They still got to take back the TJ Maxx. Apparently, it was stolen from a different TJ Maxx like in Daytona. All that. All that. That I tested the W form. like a bunch of hats from like Hobby Lobby. So, let me ask you before this cuz they're pulling all the Daytona store video. Were you in Daytona store? >> No, sir. >> TJ Maxx? >> No, sir. >> Hobby Lobby? >> No, sir. >> You sure? You never went in any store? >> No, sir. >> Was she in any of these stores? >> No. >> We're going to find out if you were really. >> Yeah, you need to get good pictures of her before you cut her loose. >> They released the pregnant girl without charges. As for the other two girls, they weren't so lucky. They were both charged with theft and possession of stolen property. No surprise there, as old habits really do die hard. On the 7th of May 2025, security at a Home Depot store stopped a man trying to leave with a box full of tools and a receipt for something completely different. The responding officer stepped in and detained the man without any issues. Sorry. [laughter] >> I watch you this whole time. I watch you. We got it on camera. All right. >> Uh 100%. >> 100%. Where do I go? >> All right. >> Have you seen somebody my side? Really? >> Yeah. >> America's funniest song. Oh, you want me to go with you? >> Yep. >> Oh, I thought you said stay right here. >> Yeah, that's going to stay there. I thought it was going to be under the cops of America's funniest home video. You know what I mean? >> There's some big people that run. >> Yeah, some deceiving. [laughter] >> Really? >> Very deceiving. >> Holy [ __ ] You're going to sit in that. >> This one. Sorry about that. >> You have your ID on you? >> Uh, it's an old one. >> The photo and your name and everything? >> Yeah, it has my name on it. Yep. Right here. When >> was the last time you got a restaurant? uh a month and a half ago. >> For what? >> Um it was nothing related to this. It was uh driving with um license suspended. >> Right from the get-go, he was trying to look relaxed like it was no big deal. He was playing the fool, hoping that being charming would help things roll his way. He was even cracking jokes. But beneath all his humor, the cops could see the man was tense while they stayed calm and professional. >> Listen, we're all human. People make mistakes, but I mean to run to me is like I don't know. >> How many times have you been arrested for retail theft before? >> I think twice. >> Okay. How many times were you convicted of them? >> Uh, I don't think any. >> Okay. Was it at Home Depot or was it at other stores? One was at a Home Depot. Okay. >> Um but the Home Depot one got thrown out. >> People do make mistakes, but stealing at Home Depot twice and once from another store is not a mistake. It's serial shoplifting. And if the first two incidents weren't enough to teach him a lesson, it's unlikely a third one would make any difference. >> You on probation for anything? >> Uh no. >> No. >> No. I'm not on probation. No. >> Any warrants? >> Negative. Listen, I'm here. I'm I'm here now. So, I'm telling >> Yeah. I know people have lied to you too before, so you're going to see. I'm just >> It's uh >> What do you do for work? >> I work on the uh water manes. >> Where at? >> Um >> business out of Hatchee, my boss. >> But, uh ours have been cut domestically. Home Depot. >> Like the water means like in the ground. >> Yeah. Yeah. water services and stuff like that. [snorts] Um, sewage. >> How long you been work for that? [sighs] >> Two and a half years. But we're down to like 20 hours right now a week. Just slow. >> Doesn't justify anything I do. Don't get me wrong, but I'm being honest with you. You know what I mean? >> It's just been a little rough. >> The officer asked a few simple questions, but the guy hesitated, trying to piece a story together that would get him out of trouble. He was trying to play it cool, but deep down he knew exactly where he was heading. >> If they want to prosecute, obviously depending on the money, you I can either give you if it's low enough, you'll get a notice to appear, go get a court date. >> Okay. >> Okay. And then you're also going to be trespassed like simultaneously. >> It's both. And then I have an obligation to >> to go show up in court. Or if if the value is high enough where it's a felony, then you're taking the right to county. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> What is felony? Uh, over 700 50. I I have no idea what was in that box. So, >> how much was it, brother? >> 900s. >> In the hundreds. >> 900. >> 900? Really? >> I thought that was the $300. >> Literally, I thought that was 300 bucks. Yeah, but I thought that's where it said 300 by there. >> Take a step back. >> I take a step back. Your hands inward like you're praying. >> Okay. Like that. >> When the value of the stolen goods topped $750, the handcuffs were inevitable. He played dumb about the price, but the cops weren't buying it. And just like that, it was game over. >> You want to tell me what's going on here today? What brought us here? Just financial issues back at home. So, >> okay. >> Bad decisions in life. >> Okay. >> That's it. >> Financial issues at home. >> Yeah. >> How did that lead you to coming to Home Depot? >> Just bad decisions. >> I need a little bit more explanations. I get having financial issues, but why come to Home Depot? Why did you come here today? >> Looking to hopefully get some tools and hopefully make money or I don't know. I don't know. Wasn't bubbleheaded. >> No, listen, that's completely understandable. We are human beings and we make mistakes, right? >> Yeah. Even if it was true that he had financial difficulties from not getting enough work, it was still no excuse to commit crime. This guy should have known better because it wasn't his first rodeo. If anything, he was just sorry he got caught again. >> I got to figure out how to make more income from a family cuz it's just embarrassing to me. >> True. >> Yeah. >> I'm not proud of this. >> You have kids? How many? >> Two. >> How old are they? 16 and 12. >> Yeah, you have the kids. You got to think about that. >> Yeah. >> Did you pay for any of the items that you walked out with? >> I paid for the box. >> And which box was that? >> It was a It's like a mirror. >> Okay. What did you do with the mirror? >> The mirror's on the shelf. >> Okay. So, you took the mirror out of the box? >> Yeah. >> But kept the sticker on it. >> Yeah. >> Okay. How did you >> It was cut dry pretty much. >> Okay. Yeah. But did you walk out with the box empty? >> No. >> And how did you pay for the box? >> I scanned it. That's when they grabbed that's when they went and talked to me. >> Yeah. But was I I'm trying to get the whole story. >> No, I got to I I paid for the box. Scanned it. Was there anything inside of the box? >> The things that they saw? >> The tools? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Okay. That's what I was trying to get. >> That's all. >> So, you put the tools inside of the empty mirror box >> and then you paid for the box. >> Okay. >> They charged the man with felony theft and he was banned from the property. Stealing's not a mistake. It's a choice that has consequences. Somehow, criminals just don't get it until the consequences hit them and they hit harder than expected. On the 6th of July 2024 in Penllis County, the cops responded to a theft at Walmart. The suspect, 69-year-old Eugene Williams, had been living in the parking lot and shoplifting for weeks. On this occasion, the cops found him with breakfast stuffed in his pockets and no interest at all in cooperating. >> Have a seat, man. Sit down. >> I don't want to sit down. I don't [ __ ] you down. >> You will put me down. Sit. Sure. Will sit down. Sit. on the bench. Dumb ass. >> You don't talk to me like that. You [ __ ] >> Sit up. You grab me. You son of a [ __ ] Don't grab me. No. Get the [ __ ] away from me. >> You want taste today, don't you? >> No, I don't want taste. >> You don't talk to me any kind of way. >> I will. >> Yeah. No, you won't. >> My show is yours. >> I'll beat the [ __ ] out of you. >> Keep making for that, too. >> Yeah. Right. Right. You don't talk to me any kind of way. Respect me. [ __ ] you. >> We just asked you nicely to sit down and I did. You said no. Do you remember that? >> Yeah. Yeah, I said no because the way you said it. >> Keep trying that. >> Yeah, brother. If you jump like a [ __ ] >> I just want to see if you're going to jump. You're a [ __ ] puss. >> You're the one going to jail. >> Yeah, don't worry about your >> Keep chirping. >> Yeah, I just found out how much gut you got. >> With every simple instruction, the man was trying to make things an argument. And the cops had seen this type before. While cursing at the officers, he had the audacity to demand their respect. While he kept on talking, the cops turned their attention to the black Mercedes he'd been living in. As things turned out, the car wasn't even registered to him. >> Improperly registered vehicle. >> That ain't improperly registered. >> Yeah, it is. She don't own it no more. So, that tag ain't no good. That tag is going back into evidence. >> Oh, she don't own it no more. >> No, she don't own it no more. I already contacted her. She said she don't own it anymore. >> I own it. That's how come I know you registered it. >> I own it. >> Then it's improperly, >> but still. No, it's not. >> That's another charge, too. >> Yeah. Yeah. Whatever. You'll see when I go to court. >> Eugene was convinced that he was the real victim. To this guy, the cops were just bullies with badges, and they didn't have anything on him. That mix of arrogance and self-pity only made the man look more guilty and defensive with every nasty word that came out of his mouth. Nevertheless, the officer stayed cool. I'm glad we pop this guy. >> I'm glad you brought me too. Hey, little misdemeanor. >> A little misdemeanor. >> Follow me. Try that. >> Oh, whatever. That That won't stand up. >> Yeah. >> Everything's on body cam. Whatever. >> Right on body cam. >> You guys You guys is using center force on a 69y old black man. >> What force did we use? >> Yeah. Yeah. You [music] >> What force did we use? >> You told me to set out and I can't set out that fast. You heard me. Now it's all over the camera. >> You told me to set up. >> Yeah, you said no. Which is resisting. >> No, I didn't. >> Add that misdemeanor charge while you're at it. So, whatever. Whatever. That's a stick. They know you guys are bullies. >> In his mind, everything the cops did just proof they were out to get him for no reason. He was convinced he was being wronged, but it was all due to his pride and his terrible attitude. Despite the fact that his pockets were full of breakfast, he was not going to come clean. I don't like you, man. Good. It's likewise. [snorts] >> You're going to add an assault charge, bro. Hey, >> what you going? I'm assault you. >> No. Assault is a threat to do harm. >> You assaulted me. >> Keep doing it. >> Keep doing it, bro. >> Keep doing it. >> Your camera there. >> It's right here. >> Yeah, I know. I know you. >> It just captured your soul. >> Yeah. Oh, I sold you again. >> Yeah. To do harm. >> Could you stand on you? Make me fear you. Huh? You're standing over me with your [ __ ] eye like you want to do something. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. You intimidating me. Get back. >> Get back. Let's do it. Right. Tell me to get back. He's making He's making a little like like he's intimidating. He's scaring me. >> All right. My patience for you, Mr. Williams is really getting >> Oh, my patience for you too the same way. Okay. I'm not scaring you. >> I'm in charge. >> I know you're in charge. Tell me to get back. >> He's standing right on me. >> Oh, really? >> I don't trust you. >> I don't trust me. >> I got a head coach. You look just a 16 year old man with head. You've already >> Oh, really? I ain't playing nobody came right now. >> You tried to leave me, man. You're going to hit me with face. >> No, I'm going to hit you with taser. >> Oh, I'll taser it at once. He's going to hit me with a 69year-old black man. >> Yeah, cuz you resisting. >> No, I didn't resist. Show me resist. >> Stomping your leg like No, no, no, no, no. >> Guys like Eugene are all the same. Stubborn and loud, and they think the world owes them something. However, the cops didn't give in to his intimidation because they've seen this act a hundred times and they knew what to do. Just focus on the job and get things done. >> All right. So, 3 years from now or you know at starting today from 3 years, you were trespassing this location. If you're on the in the parking lot in the building, we'll call in and let them take you away. All right. >> I appreciate it. I appreciate it. Thank you, sir. Thank you, sir. >> You're welcome. Is [clears throat] that under $300? It's much me. >> I don't know. Do you have prior? >> No. >> Okay. Well, we'll get a dollar amount. >> And it's not $300 the threshold. That's not the threshold. I'm glad you know the law. >> Don't chase it. Okay. >> I don't need no law. >> Sounds like you're trying to. >> No, I ain't trying to. [clears throat] You trying to? >> No, I do know the law. >> Get the away from me, man. I don't like you stand over me. I feel threatened. I feel threatened. Get your Get back. I feel threatened. Get back. Please get back. Hey, can you get in from over me? I don't like [clears throat] >> I don't trust you. >> No, I don't trust him. >> Can you get back for me, sir? >> Eugene said he felt threatened, but it was clearly just an act because his attitude was way more threatening. He wasn't scared. He just wanted to drag things out and make the entire arrest process a headache for everyone. Wasting the cop's time was Eugene's idea of a win. And he wasn't done playing. I need ambulance. >> I need help. I need ambulance. >> What's your complaint? >> I Okay, >> Mr. Bruce, what's your complaint? >> I need I need a >> For what? I have to tell him for what? I >> What's your complaint? >> Huh? >> I'm sweating. >> You're sweating. I can't tell him you're sweating. That's not a medical complaint. >> Sit up. >> Okay. Sit. >> Don't Don't trust me. >> Sit on the bench. >> Stop leaning over like that. I'm not coming ambulance. >> I'm asking for help. >> It's not going to change anything. >> I'm asking for help. >> Call me ambulance. >> Come in. >> You'll get medically evaluated at full medical status. >> It doesn't matter. Okay. It doesn't matter. [music] I'm here. >> Yeah. Good. >> You here? >> Shortness of breath. >> Dr. What's your medical complaints? [clears throat] >> I didn't. I told you I got >> You said sweating. You said sweating. That's not a medical. >> I had a little stroke. >> How do you know you had a stroke? >> I don't know. had a stroke. I I just felt a sweatness and pain come over. >> Where's your pain? >> They can get me, doctor, sir. >> Okay. Where's your pain, sir? >> Where's your pain? >> In my chest. >> Okay. Can you sit normal? >> No. Oh, >> they can't handcuff me. >> Yes. They're not made comfortable. >> I'm sweating like a >> correct. You're sweating cuz you're in custody. >> Oh, [ __ ] doctor. >> It's not going to change anything. >> The act was so fake that he barely tried to sell it. The cops weren't being fooled here, but the rules are the rules, so they had to call an ambulance. Waiting around like this just gave Eugene more time to play the victim. It's really too bad that they don't hand awards out for bad acting. He delayed the process, but there was no way to stop the inevitable. >> Why upset me? Oh, >> nobody's upset >> with the [ __ ] >> Nobody's upset. >> Bad cops. Oh, bad cops. Oh, bad cops. Oh my god. >> You are full of it. >> Oh [ __ ] Oh [ __ ] me. Stretching me out. Drench. >> You stretch yourself up cuz you're going to jail. >> Oh [ __ ] >> Mr. Williams, you're a terrible. >> The incarceritis is really hurting him. >> I [ __ ] handcuffed too tight. They're too tight. They're too tight. They're too tight. >> The paramedics showed up quickly and did their usual checks. Even though they knew it was an act, they still took him seriously. When they wrapped things up, they just shrugged their shoulders because his body wasn't making half the fuss that he was. >> Where shortness of breath from? >> I don't know. >> All right. >> I smoke cigarettes. >> You smoke cigarettes? That's pretty normal, huh? >> Yeah. >> No, she's on vacation. >> Are you a diabetic? >> Are you a diabetic? >> A Yeah. Off and on. Yeah. off and on or you are diabetic. >> Sometime I they told me to drink more water because >> well that doesn't have anything to do with your blood sugar and your oxygen saturation 100%. It literally cannot get any better than that. >> Your blood pressure is literally as ideal what they put in the textbook is 120 over 80. You're 122 over 79. So, clinically right now, there is nothing medically wrong or anything that's jumping out at us that makes it seem like you need to be evaluated at the hospital now or within the next 24 hours. Um, that being said, if you do decide to go to the hospital, it's not going to change what happens. >> It doesn't matter. I want to go to hospital. >> Okay. But you [clears throat] do understand you're still going to be going to jail. >> Copies you have to go to hospital. >> Thank you. >> You can't sway me. >> What? You can't sway me. >> Can't sway you to do what? >> To try to confirm to you. >> What does that mean? >> I don't know. You tell me. >> I don't know. You said it. So, won't you tell me what you said? >> No. No. I I ain't find what you said. >> Cuz it doesn't make any sense. >> I ain't doing nothing makes sense for the black men in the cell. >> Eugene wanted to go to the hospital, but clearly it was just another tactic to delay things. The cops played along trying to stay cool while this guy kept testing their patience. Ultimately, it was all about having the last word. And one final performance to steal the spotlight. >> I have permission. >> Stand up. You want to go to the hospital, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, stand up. We got to get you. >> Pull me up. I can't get up. >> You can get out. We're not. >> Get up. >> I can't get up. >> Then we can't go to the hospital. >> Okay. We can't. I'm old. I can't push up. >> You just pushed to the ground. You can't push up. >> I sat down. No. >> Hey, can somebody help me get up? This guy's uh trying to intimidate me getting up. I need help getting up. >> Thank you, sir. >> Okay. Oh, you don't touch the black guy. >> All right, come on. Get in that chair. >> I can't get in there. Oh, >> you did. >> All right, keep your legs in. >> I will. >> Put his feet right here. >> There you go. I got you on the stretcher. We're going to the hospital. >> Get in there. >> Once he gets on all the way. >> Hey, stop pulling on me, man. Get on the stretcher. >> I'll get over here. >> I thought you could move. >> You f Get back. >> Thought you could move. >> Get back. >> Don't do that. >> Get back. No, he better get back. I'm trying to grab it on me. >> Well, I can't move right now. Give me a minute. >> You kicking me? >> No. My kicking me stretcher. >> Oh, I thought you was kicking me half. >> Getting mad, ain't you? I don't care about you getting mad. >> You think that you care how my day goes? I see five of you a day. >> I know. >> He was taken to the hospital and as you might have expected, checked out just fine and was medically cleared. He didn't have a stroke, just a chronic case of defiance. He was taken to the jail house and charged with petty theft and threatening an officer. On April 22nd, 2024 in Los Cusus, New Mexico, the cops got a call from Walmart's loss prevention about a possible shoplifting. The suspect, a 31-year-old named Isabelle Melendez, was well known to staff due to several prior incidents. Where's she at? >> Right here. She's at register 11. So, she concealed some clothes into that bag. Now, she's only scanning like the grocery stuff and like socks on. >> Yeah, she's not attempting to pay for the Yes, sir. We're uh we're already inside. >> Yes, sir. Uh for a um we have eyes on her right now. She's at the register >> and she has trespass as well >> from Valley, but it's for all Walmarts. >> Thank you. Yeah, she concealed some items, so we're going to get her on that, too. >> She put clothes into a bag and at the register only scanned groceries and some socks. Acting very confident she looked like someone who' pulled it off before, but she'd been banned from every Walmart, and that should have been her clue to never try it again. It's up to you guys if you want to do it in [snorts] the store, but if she doesn't pass the last point of sale, I can't charge her for those. >> Okay. >> Well, well, for us, if she conceals them, >> um, that's enough for us to >> Oh, yeah. If that works, just go and do that, though. >> Okay. She You said it's in the back. >> Yeah, in the back. Yeah. >> What is it? >> Uh, it's like a pair of socks. >> 93. >> Socks and like shirts. >> Yeah, like clothes basically like clothes. Okay. She's going to be walking out now if you guys don't know. >> Where's she at right now? register 11, >> which is closer to this side or that's it. >> It's like right in this It's closer to this side for sure. >> So, her car's declining right now for these items. She might just try to walk out maybe. >> Yeah. >> With the cops having enough evidence, they didn't even bother to wait for her to leave. They headed straight for the exit to make sure and cut things short. Moments later, Isabelle's quiet checkout turned into a full-on struggle. So, >> get away from me. >> We got her inside. >> The phone on the inside. >> Oh, dude. There we go. >> The officers cuffed the woman and they didn't even break a sweat. For her part, she had enough experience to know it was over. She then went limp, turning herself into a dead weight. Not knowing if it was real or not, the cops still had to take it seriously. >> Yeah. You okay? >> Come on. Roll over. You were just fighting me for your phone, so stop. Roll over. >> Just start trying to roll over. >> [sighs] >> Yeah. >> One of the cops grabbed a nasal spray and gave her a dose of it to see if she'd come around. However, the cops weren't too phased by her because they'd seen this move over and over. Passing out while getting arrested is a classic bid for sympathy, and the cops weren't buying it. Still though, they had to be sure. She reacted to it. She squinted her nose. >> Oh, she reacted to it when I put it in her nose. She squinted. [snorts] >> She's starting to get a little more responsive already. >> Did I give her the second dose? >> Uh, just wait. >> Three minutes, right? >> Three to four. if she wasn't already like >> um like if she stopped >> I got her knife or pipe in her few. >> Did you see if she hit her? >> We can. It could be >> I fell when she fell. So >> she did that last time. >> Yeah. >> Oh, she speaking at >> Yeah. >> Cuz when we when we were getting her, she was fighting me for her phone. So >> then once she got >> Yeah. Oh, I saw her pulling and then as soon as I walked up then she's like >> They took Isabelle to the hospital and she was later booked in jail and charged with shoplifting and resisting or obstructing an officer. 11 days later though, they dropped all her charges. It's not exactly the lasting lesson that she probably needed. Ultimately, it's never really about what they steal. It's a routine they enjoy. And furthermore, it makes them feel like they can get away with it forever. But their luck runs out. Cameras don't forget and the cops are determined to serve justice to serial shoplifterss.
