from a former iner police officer who beat a black man by the roadside for rolling through a stop sign to a Serial cop impersonator who finally landed in court here are four cases of corrupt cops who got humbled in the courtroom starting from the explosively violent William Melendez there's a purpose of this long protracted sentencing was to offer you the one thing that this court believe you didn't give Mr Dent fairness and due process being a police officer is a tremendous and very rewarding occupation I believe it's a calling on your life to do justice in a community on January 28th 2015 you did not fulfill your job you performed just us on January 28th 2015 William Melendez an iner police officer at the time pulled over a black man for rolling through a traffic stop rather than end the interaction with a ticket Melendez resorted to a violent display of aggression in which he beat up the man Floyd Dent by the roadside for this he was charged with assault and taken to court where judge Vonda Evans presided over his case that began with the police stop the purpose of it was to harass and degrade a motorist and iner the man chosen for your game was Floyd dent a black man the game went like this let's follow a car in known drug area and based on your years of training experience you knew that the motorist would likely be a black person no licensed armed with a gun or drugs in a vehicle upon stopping Mr Dent you knew and upon stopping Mr Dent who was dead wrong for driving with no license or license suspended running stop signs and weaving in and out of the back street which the court saw on the video you and your Sidekick auxiliary police officer zanusi caught your Prey Upon being stopped Mr Dent put his hands out of the driver's window in plain view your partner and you pulled him out when he didn't move fast enough for you you refer to it as resisting I call it bowing down to your command you utilize your dirty hairy tactics and use excessive force to arrest him your job was twofold investigate the situation be a positive example to officer zanusi when your posi arrived they joined you in a Tak down kicking and tasing and Al ultimately throwing Mr Dent into a windshield of a police car with a dash cam which I refer to as the eye of Justice you were so into your bravado that you forgot the eye of Justice was watching you and recording this disgusting beating seeing Mr Dent slammed into the window shield with blood running down his face the dash cam that was designed to protect you ended up being what convicted you fist busting after taking him down as a sign of Bravery was just another cowardly act caught by the eye of Justice after weighing the allegations in this particular matter and looking at all the circumstances including what you've done and who the person I really believe that you are I'm going to commit you to the Michigan Department of Corrections as to count one for no less than 13 months no more than 10 years as to count two I'm going to give you 90 days credit uh for time ser and close it out course it's going to give you 85 days for credit you have 42 days to appeal my decision that includes matter thank you judge Evans painstakingly recounted each of melendez's wrongdoing on that fateful night in January and ended by sentencing the Tyrant to 10 years in prison Floyd Dent also reached a settlement of 1.4 million with the city but serial offenders like William Melendez aren't rare here's another one who's known specifically for his talent of impersonating police officers go go go go go last of February 2017 two attorneys Revel and Garcia had just walked out of a courthouse after a hearing for their client Lloyd Edwards they were immediately accosted by police officers who claimed to have a warrant that a allowed them to search Edwards all right you the warrants that you all have for his person and for his vehicle that's correct so he is given the phone that's on his person okay I have videos of him handing the phone to you you handing the phone to her right now you all do have that but that is not on when you all that was not on his person so you all not about okay well all right then we'll go the other route to get all right you got okay we're standing here and we have it on video that he handed his um cell phone to his attorney uh one and they handed it to another and it's in the Satchel that is right here well are we being detained at this moment in time they're not denying it we have video detain you until we determine the next course bace give me just what I have had accused him of abuse claiming to the police that evidence could be found on his phones however the phones were no longer with Ed Ward but with the lawyers who refuse to give them up this led to the deputies charging them with obstruction of justice so you're going to well okay uh well we're not going to give you his we're not going to give you anything on our person you don't have a a right to so if you detain us you know you got there's you have you have to have you know C there's certain constitutional safeguards to do that but you're going to detain us then hey we're not going to run that grants was suspicious however this wasn't a crime yet he started to Grill Grants with silly questions completely unaware that the man knew his rights well I like to identify just know who I'm dealing with make sure well if I'm making contact with you for a reason suspicion call like I am right now being suspicious is a Mis okay well sir here's the de I was called on you okay um for a the state of Oklahoma okay I have to be suspected of commit crime about to commit a crime well you are committing crime you're trespassing has anybody told me somebody has calleded in the shut up out to an address uh sum Valley Road um for a suspicious vehicle gentleman's parked in a black pickup um he's from Oklahoma City but he won't give me his name and tells me he doesn't have to give me a driver's license because he's not done anything wrong having a vehicle well he's parked right now okay well technically there's no obligation for him to identify himself I mean unless you got Reasonable Suspicion a crime well the thing is is I have no Reasonable Suspicion to believe that is not committing crime because he has a ladder in the back of the truck and he's in front of houses that aren't occupied right now oh I see okay yeah um there's no compelled ID Statute in Oklahoma I have to think about you have anything else to suggest he might be involved in something elicit well just I I'm curious why a man from Oklahoma City is parked on a dead end Road in Blanchard and uh you know he has no I ask him if he lives here and he says I don't answer questions okay yeah so it ask if he was free to leave and I said not at this time I have my Emergency Equipment activated and I'm trying to investigate what if you're going to drive away absolutely make enough can's driving he's operating a motor but you don't have traffic violation well I fall him out of town until I get one despite this display of r rudess and idiocy Grant stood his ground and refused to let himself be
