Open the door. PLEASE, STOP. OPEN THE DOOR. PLEASE, STOP. I'm giving you an order. Get on the ground, belly down. So, you're trespassing me now. I'm trying to get home to my five kids. I lost my phone. Is that okay? I'm seriously going to have a nervous breakdown. I'm leaving. I'm leaving. I'm leaving. I'm leaving. I'm leaving. I'm begging you. From scared little ladies to menacing men spitting insults and saliva, trespassers come in various shapes and forms. Who Who is she to you? Friend, family, cousin, sister? I just know her off Facebook. You just knew her off Facebook and you all came here to steal stuff? Sometimes a suspect acts so ludicrous that the cops can't keep a straight face, like with these entitled shoplifters. Get on the ground. Both of you, GET ON THE GROUND. GET ON THE GROUND. THERE'S ONE RIGHT HERE. IT'S RIGHT STRAIGHT AHEAD. GET ON THE GROUND, BOTH OF I WILL WORK AROUND IT. I said you're the one getting the money and telling her what to steal, and you're getting paid by somebody else that's higher than you. On the 13th of January, 2025, two women were spotted shoplifting at a Nike store at Orlando Premium Outlets. It just so happened that at the very same time, the Orlando police were running a retail theft operation at the very same location. As they walked out, the cops were waiting for the suspects, and they swiftly reacted. Get on the ground. BOTH OF YOU, GET ON THE GROUND. GET ON THE GROUND. GET ON THE GROUND. GET ON THE GROUND. THERE'S ONE RIGHT HERE. IT'S RIGHT STRAIGHT AHEAD. Straight ahead. Get on the ground, Excuse me, sir. I need your cuffs. Mine's on the other guy. Oh, no. I'm not doing I'm not moving. Do Do move. You are saying do not move. >> [screaming] >> I got my daddy. Hey, she was texting somebody. My daddy. You can look at the things. Where are your car keys? In this other vehicle. In this other vehicle? What vehicle? Nissan Altima. The suspect freely admitted coming to the store in her black Nissan, which was a little bit strange given what was inside the vehicle. Whatever the case, at least she was honest. But before the cops could get to that, they had to follow procedure. All right, so right now you're being detained, all right? We're investigating a retail theft, okay? So, I just have to read you your rights real quick. Have you been read them before? Yes, ma'am. So, you have the right to remain silent, do you understand? Yes, ma'am. Anything you say may be used against you in court, [music] do you understand? Yes, ma'am. You have the right to talk to a lawyer before and during questioning, do you understand? Yes, ma'am. Okay. Do you want to talk to me now? Yes, ma'am. Yeah? Okay. So, you're from Jacksonville. Who's that girl with you? That's my friend. That's your friend. Like how how close you are to Just met her like Like how long would you say that you met this girl? Maybe a year and a half. A year and a half. How's it been? I mean I'm a close friend. A friend. I like your your little piece on your root gem. Nice. Those are expensive. No, they were free as [ __ ] Really? >> came off there. How they let you put them on? You know people put the gems on their teeth. Yeah, I know. They're expensive. So, you met her through a friend? Yes, ma'am. Okay. And where's she from? Um I think I think she's from Oh, she's from Jacksonville as well. The cops had a hunch that they might be a part of an organized shoplifting ring. To get to the truth of the matter, they'd have to try and play the suspects against each other. First things first though, they'd get each of their stories. Okay. How did you guys get here? We had a driver. Who? We had a driver. We had a driver? Who's that? I don't know. We don't know who it is. That's why I told you that he was still in the parking lot waiting on us. Like, but who knows that? Uber? Oh, it's an Uber driver? So, it's not your car, her car. They were just here waiting for you. So, they just stay here and wait for you, or did you guys order? Yeah, we ordered it. And they they stay here and wait for you. Oh, okay. Is that on your phone? Like, would you be able to show me, so I know you're being honest? What are you looking for? I'm not looking for nobody. You keep looking out there. I'm not stupid. I can see you peeking around. What are you looking for? What is wrong with you? For the driver? If it's an Uber driver, so if I give you your phone, you'll be able to pull it up on your phone that it's an Uber driver? The way the woman blurted out that they had a car showed that she wasn't a career criminal. And by that point, she was acting really suspicious. Looks like her friend Shaba was the more seasoned crook. How did you get here today? Oh, me, I met her out here. You met her out here? >> Mhm. Okay, so when you met her, how did you get out here? How did I get out here? I called Uber. You got an Uber from? From my Airbnb. Where's your Airbnb? It's where I got a Airbnb with family, and I met her out here. Is it Oh, in Kissimmee. And who who is she to you? Friend, family, cousin, sister? I just know her off Facebook. You just knew her off Facebook? So, y'all came here to steal stuff? No, no, no, not necessarily. It was just simple fact that I met her out here. Okay. So, let me ask you this, right? We [music] all see walking out of Nike. Obviously, you guys stole, right? So, when I was pulling up here, I watched both of you Well, I watched you first start to take off running. Then you stopped. Then you tried to hide behind this car over here. Then I watched her, well, there was a pickup here. She tried to hide behind that. That's when my sergeant saw her. So, what So, y'all decided to run, try to hide? The cops had reason to believe that it wasn't an isolated incident and that they were there the day before doing the very same thing. As a result, they were about to confront Shaba with the facts. So, while we're here, we're going to we're going to try and clarify something else real quick. >> Okay. Hear me out. Okay. Okay. This is your time to be totally and brutally honest. Okay. Okay. Were you guys here at the outlets yesterday? Ooh. I I wasn't I'm asking you some questions cuz I know the answers to them. >> was. So, you were? Yeah. >> First, you said no, now you're telling me yes. I was. So, you were here at the outlets yesterday? Uh-huh. Okay. Now again, I'm asking you stuff cuz I know the answers to it already. Okay. Did you steal anything from the outlets yesterday? No. What stores did you go to in the outlets yesterday? We didn't get a chance to go into the stores. Okay. Cuz this is you inside of the store. Are you going to order? Yeah, yeah. So, I'm telling you But we we >> This is not This is not This is not the time to lie. >> I didn't I didn't take anything though. I didn't. For real? I promise I didn't. She Okay, we walked in the store. What store? We was in several stores. Confronted with video footage, Shaba changed her story and added a couple more lies. She admitted they went into several stores, but claimed they'd lost their car keys, got upset about it, and left the outlet without stealing anything. So, whose idea was to take these things? I have no idea. Be honest. Whose idea was it? Is your idea? Or wasn't your idea? How old are you? 20. You know you're too too old to be peer pressured and sit there and do dumb stuff. Especially getting locked up, spending the night in jail with dirty people. You don't look dirty. You don't seem dirty. You don't want to be around nasty people, right? So, how can you get peer pressured to steal something? What she tell you that made you want to want to do this? Nothing. Well, she she She listen to those things. She's far away. >> [music] >> So What she tell you? What can you do? >> What What I'm seeing is going to get her in bigger than just me and you. You know how it is. She She worries your career and your life and your your future? >> talking about her. Okay, so even if she does find out, we are protecting yourself. Don't you think she's going to do the same? >> about her. >> Okay, so what are you worried about? I'm not talking about her when I say that. What are you worried about? The woman clearly felt the urge to speak, but she didn't want to get her friend in trouble. Eventually though, she came clean. In the meantime, the cops were still grilling Shaba, hinting to her that her friend had spilled the beans. So you said you had no particular reason as to why you stole the stuff. All right, as you told me initially. No. But talking to her, that don't seem to be the case at all whatsoever. What she say? Her word around is that you're the one getting the money and telling her what to steal and you're getting paid by somebody else that's higher than you. I know. I know she didn't >> that's a cool bird, but no. So do you see what my dilemma is now when you tell me >> I don't see why you're coming out strong like that. >> you ain't had no reason. Well, IF THAT'S THE CASE, >> GOT SOMEBODY in the other car flipping the script real quick. >> Listen. Listen. You check this out. Straight out of If that's the case, why only had that little bit of stuff? Maybe I weren't done. No. Look, so I've been doing this for a little while. This this whole theft thing. I know a common practice with this is people typically have a car, they steal a little bit, they dump it in the car, they go back, they go to another store, they steal more, they go back, put it in the car. Who's to say that isn't the case with you, too? No. I don't know. That's what I'm trying to figure out. As things turned out, the officer was right. They eventually located the black Nissan and found a treasure trove of evidence. Inside the vehicle, they found shirts, socks, and lots of other clothing items that came from multiple stores. Do you have a ones on ultimate? black. ones. Two moms? You got y'all rode down here together in that? Yes. Okay. From Jacksonville? [music] Yes. Okay. So, help piece this together for me, okay? So, from what I'm understanding, this car is full of merchandise. Okay. What all is in the car? Just It's like knitwear, socks, t-shirts, and stuff, and just clothes. That's it. That's clothes. Just clothes? Is all of it stolen? Um yes. All of it is stolen? >> I would say all of them no. But, probably most of them no. Where is that all from? Different stores. From these outlets right here? Yes. Okay. Is it all from today? Yes. Goodness gracious, today? Okay. They were both charged with grand theft, resisting an officer without violence, giving false information, tampering with evidence, and possessing an anti-shoplifting device. In big retail shops, dedicated anti-theft personnel keep a very close eye on potential shoplifters. On the 17th of April, 2025 at a Walmart, loss prevention saw a woman stuffing items in her purse and immediately notified police. By the time she got to the exit, the cops were already waiting for her. Don't grab me, James. Let me see James. You guys don't have any proof. Put your hands behind your back. Can you please let me go, please? Let me go, please, so I can GET OUT. NO. NO. LET ME GO. LET ME GO. >> IT WAS CLEAR FROM THE START SHE was a pretty entitled shoplifter. She was demanding to see the footage, then tried to leave the place, and when the officer grabbed her by the arm, she resisted. Then after being unceremoniously taken to the ground, she immediately started whining about excessive use of force. >> [snorts] [laughter] [music] [music] [laughter] >> As she'd been taken to the ground and kept complaining about a spinal injury, the cops called for a medical team to check her out. While waiting for them, she wanted the cops to pull her up, and wouldn't make any effort of her own. Actually assist [music] me? Cuz I'm not I'm not going to assist you. I don't have my hands. No, use your legs to stand up. I can't. Okay, then I can't just lift you up. You're not 5 You're not 5 lbs either. You're big butt got on the top Just wait, and I'll get another officer over here to help me. No, it's You didn't tell me anything. You didn't tell me what the reason was. That's it. You can have what they told you. So, what? Is this your back? I told you what they are. I don't have to say nothing else to you. Okay. Can I make a phone call, please? No. Okay, what are you arresting me for? What am I being arrested for? Obstruction and theft third. Theft third. Theft third is what? For what exactly? You don't even know what I stole. It's shoplifting. You don't even know what I stole. And and furthermore, isn't there a limit for when you take people [music] to jail? It sounds like you're pretty familiar with these charges. I You know what? Because I actually want to be a lawyer one day. That's why. If anybody wants to be a lawyer, shoplifting is not the way to [music] do it. In any case, another cop stopped by to help with getting her on her feet. She was escorted to the office, and complained the whole way. No, I'm not being like everybody else. I'm a black woman in America. All police stop arresting you. >> [laughter] >> I'm not talking to you. You seen You seen me get thrown on the ground. No, I didn't see anybody. Have a seat, please. Please. I'm not talking to anybody, sir. Oh, I don't care if I talk to you. I'm talking to to you. I was talking to that lady over there. Oh, you're talking to her for what? Yeah, okay. She took underwear and shirts and she I did not TAKE UNDERWEAR. I PAID for my underwear. That's what I'm saying. She took one of the underwear and shirts and she concealed the shirt and paid for the underwear. That's what I was saying. Brother, is there anything else? >> [music] >> There's nothing else. It's just shirts. And you don't You don't have Yes, she has legal authority. Stop. No, I did not authorize that. Exercise your right to remain silent, then. I did not authorize him to go through my You don't have to. You're under arrest for shoplifting. >> what? And I didn't authorize you, and you have the wrong ID. Oh my god. No, nobody's going to We're going to stop talking to you. She didn't listen to a word she was being told and argued every chance she got. She was demanding to see the footage, refused to follow simple commands, and kept talking over the officer the moment he opened his mouth. Don't go through my purse. You're not allowed That's it. That's all I have. You don't have to go through my purse. Marijuana is legal. You can put that back in my purse. You have no right to go through the rest of my items. >> I'm going to advise you of your rights right now. No, I'm not. He has Why are you going through the rest of my purse? Argue with me in court. That's your legal right. >> Okay, that's fine. I will do that. All right, ma'am. I'm going to advise you of your rights right now. Having these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to us at all? Listen, I will I will cooperate, but I don't like how he's going through my purse. There's nothing else in there for you to [music] go through my purse. I would appreciate if you not not go through the rest of my Are you going to go to jail [music] today? So, be careful for obstruction and theft, for example. No, listen. I I have every You can So, for that reason, I need to actually look through this. Take me to jail. I don't have a record. >> [music] >> Okay, and I apologize. I'm homeless, okay? I am homeless. I don't have any any where to go. Can you please put put my stuff Can I please go home? That's all I want to do is go home. Wait a second. Didn't she just say she was homeless? She apparently lived in her car, and that was her home. When she was asked about the vehicle, she tried to quickly change the subject, as she clearly didn't want the cops to be snooping around. As far as your residence is concerned. Sir, so you're taking me to jail? Yes. For what? >> [music] >> For obstruction. You fought me. I did not fight you, sir. You Yeah, I gave you a lawful order. Stop. No, sir. You literally put your knee in my back. And you slammed me against the You're taking me to jail, and you literally slammed me again and you didn't even give me an opportunity. Yes, I did. I gave you No, you did not. Okay. Can I make a phone call? Uh at the jail. Can I speak Yes, at [music] the jail you can. You have a right to at the jail. Now, I'll probably help you in court if you keep talking. Sir, listen. I'm already in trouble for whatever this is. He literally put his knee in my in my Don't resist. No, I wasn't resisting. >> [music] >> I was not resisting. Well, I can tell by your attitude from the moment I met you that it's probably more plausible that you were resisting and arguing. No, I was not, sir. He literally slammed me against the the door. Okay. Well, like I told you before then, just argue with me in court. She was complaining about everything, but as far as her own actions went, she refused to take even an ounce of responsibility. By the time the cops were ready to pat her down, she decided to invoke her right to remain silent. She thought she was being defiant, but actually, she made everybody's jobs a whole lot easier. Officer Cardozo, if you'd like to do a search incident to arrest on this gal. So, I'm going to explain to you real quick. He's going to stand you up, and he's going to search your person per law. So, I'll have you stand up. He's going to search your pockets. [music] Do you have anything else that you shouldn't have on you? Do you? Perfect. I like the way you responded. Are you hurt? Do you want to go to the hospital? Do you think so? >> [music] >> We don't see anything based on the evaluation we've seen. But But based on what happened, would you like to go to the hospital to get an X-ray? You don't want that? I'll just check myself out then. Okay. All right. Well, I already know that she's not working. >> [clears throat] >> So, what we'll do for you is when we get to the outside of the jail, cuz there's kind of a line like a sally port area, we'll get your cell phone. >> [music] >> We'll hold it to your ear, and you can talk to her. Does that sound good? Yeah. Okay. I appreciate it. Okay. Thank you, and I appreciate you being cooperative. >> In the end, she was booked on theft charges and got an additional charge for obstruction. As an aspiring lawyer, she should have known that resisting the officers never does anyone good. Busting a 20-year-old shoplifter is one thing, but what if the suspect's old enough to be somebody's grandparent? On September 14th, 2024, the cops were called to a Home Depot in Vero Beach, Florida. Reportedly, a 72-year-old man was caught stealing stuff. Hello, I'm calling from the sheriff's office. >> [music] >> Hey, how are you? What's going on today? >> So, we have a selection of this gentleman. He selected his merchandise. [music] He walked back to the store and he was there at the door and then he walked out the door. Uh my uh partner stopped him about there. We identified ourselves as AP. He has not paid for any of the merchandise which we have back at the office. Okay. Once he came back to the office, he refused to give us the stuff. He was like, "I didn't do anything wrong." I never said I wanted to pay for this stuff. Once you steal I wasn't I wasn't trying [music] to steal. I'm just I'm just Well, I've gotten old and crazy. I've gotten old and crazy. When it comes to elderly thieves, there's one advantage that comes with their age. No matter what they're caught doing, they can always claim to be a little confused or a little bit senile. As for the deputy though, he wasn't buying it. He quickly Mirandized the suspect and started questioning her. Do you understand the rights that I just read to you? Most of them. What don't [music] you understand? I don't understand why I can't pay for this stuff. >> Okay. I'm going to read this to you again. >> I walked I'm going to read this to you again, okay? You may use any of these rights at any time during the interview. Do you understand the rights I just read to you? >> Yes. Okay. So, you walked out of the store with all that stuff and you didn't pay for it, right? Yeah. I have gotten old and absent-minded. Is that correct or not? I guess so. I got to about here. I was going to get ready to turn around and go back in so I realized I hadn't paid for it. Okay. Um >> [music] >> Okay. So, sir, you are detained for shoplifting investigation. Do you have your ID on you? The suspect never attempted to run or resist. He knew he was caught and cooperated fully. That being said, he still tried to wiggle his way out of things saying he was just a forgetful old man. Absent-minded. I've done this a couple of other times and I've turned around and walked back in. Okay. Cuz I'm So, why didn't you provide them with the information then? You guys could have squashed this away if you would [music] have been willing to talk. Well, I I I said, "Well, let's go over here so we're out of everybody's way." So, what are you you saying? And I said, "If you don't call the police and you let me pay for this." And they said, Well, I didn't say that. We would have just trespassed [music] you this morning had you had you done that. You probably just would have trespassed you here from Home Depot rather than calling us. Well, no. The reason you At that point, I said, "Well, you're going to call them no matter what." I said, "Well, I don't know what to do." I said, "Well, then then of course I felt like leaving." So, >> Okay. But but I said, "If that's all that you were going to do, of course I can get trespassed." [music] And all I They said, "What he started off by saying was I just won't be able to shop at Home Depot for 3 years, I think it was." And I said, "Well, if that's it and I'm not going to call the police then then that's good." And then all of a sudden he So, "I didn't say that." I said, "Well, What are you saying?" You're right, trespass warning. So, they normally just call us for that, write it up and call it a day. Oh, this is a Now, I don't know what they want to do cuz they walked away. So, my partner's going to go find out, but we'll see what happens now. The man confessed he had an argument with loss prevention and even realized it was a mistake. But at that point, he still stuck to the same old story hoping they'd think he was a confused old man and that it wasn't his fault. Um >> [music] >> if I know that's all they were going to do But when I said, "Well, so what are you saying that you're going to do this trespassing and not I understand that you thought that if you thought that if you weren't going to get in trouble, you would have complied, but you already stole from the store. At the point that you walked past all points of sale, you committed the crime of shoplifting. I I didn't realize that and I didn't mean to. Well, you did do it though and you didn't mean to do it cuz nobody just walks out of the store with items in [music] a cart and don't stop at shop at cashiers that are all the way at the end of the other end. Do you understand this is the end door? [music] That's the end door. We The registers over there, right? Have you shopped here before? Have you ever been in a home depot before in your life? No, I walked around there. Okay. So, that's how that works. Every single time. It hasn't just changed today just because you decided you want to steal, right? You came in You exited through the end door cuz you're trying to get past everybody and not get in trouble. Well, what what can I do to go back to just trespassing? All right, let's go back there. They escorted the man back inside and at that point, the man's fate was resting in the hands of the loss prevention team. The question was, would they charge the man with shoplifting or take pity on him and simply settle for a trespass? So, Eugene, [music] >> [snorts] >> we're both adults here, right? And you know you left the store without intent to pay. I was feeling like an adult. >> Well, I can understand that, but you know we both know that you left the store on purpose with those items, all right? Yeah, my my That's what makes sense to you, but I get my thought was I've got all these different possibilities and I want to I don't know which one to get and I'm tired of buying stuff and and then bringing it back and going through all [music] it takes. I I spend my whole life >> So, you just wanted to go over there, test the stuff out at your house and then [music] bring my everything else back. So, what you're going to do? Yes. Then So, that makes sense. I I mean, that was the thought, which is stupid. It's still a stupid thought. I know. I just so you know, that's what I was thinking. Okay. As he waited near the office, he had a few quiet moments to think things over. His posture changed and so did his body language and it looked like the man was finally ready to tell the truth. The officer seemed to sense it and even engaged in some man-to-man talk with him. They you see multiple um Different sizes and everything, yeah? Yeah. So, what were you working on? It's a >> [music] >> pump, it's a What do you call it? Shut off valves. Yeah. And For your sinks or >> have a female male fittings and I wasn't [music] sure if it needed to be soldered or not, that's why I said that's why I got the blowtorch at the last thing. I said, "Oh, Jesus, I don't know what I'm getting into." Yeah. And it's it's actually for insurance. Oh, wow. You know, when you when you get insurance every year, I didn't realize it but [music] they you take pictures of different things and they sent back these pictures and said, you know, "Fix fix that because it looks like it's rusty. It looks like it's uh possible that it might break and leak." >> Right, right. And yeah, that's what I'm trying to fix. This is my third trip here. Well, I went to Lowe's >> [music] >> two other times but I know. Surprisingly, the man claimed he could easily afford everything he took. However, for reasons he couldn't even quite understand himself, he made a foolish decision to not pay for them. Sadly for this guy, that decision had undeniable consequences. Here's your driver's license back. >> [music] >> So, this is a trespass warning, okay? What this means is that from today going forward, you cannot come back to this Home Depot, okay? You can go to any other Home Depot in any other town, just not this Home Depot. Um there's one in Sebastian. Go Um this does not expire, okay? So, if 2 years goes by and you're wondering if you can come back, the answer is still no. If you For years? No, it it does not expire at all. Oh. Um You said 3 years. Yeah, no. Does not expire at all. Um if a couple years goes by and you want to come back, you'd have to call them, speak to a manager and see if they would get rid of the trespass. Okay. But otherwise, if you do not [music] call this does not expire at all. Okay. I mean I don't want to come back but what happens if I did if you arrest me? You you'd be under arrest for trespassing, okay? The man came across as a harmless old-timer who just done something dumb. He had some questions about the trespass but the truth was it should have been the least of his concerns. He was hoping he'd just get trespassed so when the cuffs came out it was a total surprise. What am I being arrested [music] for? I didn't do anything. What? I thought it was just trespassing. Put your hands behind your back and interlace your fingers, okay? Just don't move for Your shoulders are a little tight I don't want to hurt you. Scoot this chair a little bit forward for me. Let me search you real quick. Am I going to get stabbed, cut, poked or anything? I've got a a little a little knife in my pocket. So when I asked you if you had any weapons on you why didn't you tell me? So I'm going to sit here with you with the door open but I I can't let you walk out, okay? What what happened? How come I You committed a crime. I mean they said just trespassing. No, they didn't say just. They they wanted you to be trespassed from the store and they want to prosecute for the crime of shoplifting. Uh do you live alone or do you live with anybody? I live with my girlfriend. You live with your girlfriend. The officer told Eugene he could call his girlfriend from jail and as far as the bond went for a misdemeanor it was usually $500. He told the officer he had about $200 but according to the officer it was more than enough. Their their minimum is $100 uh or 10% of the bond. So how you can you can definitely bond out with that. >> [music] >> Uh you can send somebody to call her to come and get your car and everything. Um and speaking of your car uh it's here in the parking lot I'm assuming. Okay, what kind of car is it? It's a Toyota Corolla. Okay. So when do we go is kind of finicky. It depends on the the value of the things you took. Um for their uh their policies and everything with their going to prosecute. I think it's over $100, they prosecute no matter what. And then if you are uh compliant, you're you're working with them, you do whatever they want to do, you know, you give them your information, you get a trespass, and they may that may be it. Under $100, you know, [music] but it's it's your choice. Eugene was taken to jail and booked for shoplifting and retail theft. And just like the officer said, as soon as Eugene got the chance, he posted bond and walked out. On the 10th of September, 2025, in Palm Coast, Florida, a woman went to a Target store and bought a comforter, a portable sauna, and a case of water. The problem was she only paid for the water and walked out, or at least she tried. So what did you what did you pay for today? I did pay for this and this right here and that, but if I didn't if it didn't go through, I can do it again. You think it didn't? Yeah. Why do you think that? Um cuz I went through the whatchamacallit, so I'm going to >> [music] >> if I can do it again, that's fine. What So my question was why do you think it didn't go through the first time or why did it not? Cuz your card probably was locked or whatever, so Well, how did you pay for the water? I just [music] I just went back. So I I had went to Starbucks. >> Where's your receipt? Um I don't have it with me. I just told you just The suspect couldn't have known she was being closely watched by loss prevention. And to make things even worse, there were already two cops at the store working on an unrelated case. That being said, detaining the woman wasn't complicated at all. Is there anything in your purse that belongs to Target that's not paid for? No. What about your jacket? I don't know. Pants or shoes, socks, anything? No. My cell phone? funny question, but we've seen some crazy stuff. Oh, you know, I'm just trying to go ahead and do what I need to do and you know, going back to my house. What's your address? Where you coming from? I'm coming from uh Palm Coast. Where in Palm Coast? Uh What's Woods Road? Woods Road? Wood. Wood Road? The woman said her name was Jennifer, but said she didn't have any ID. She said it was all just a simple mistake and kept saying she was willing to pay for the items, trying to get out of trouble. Hello. Hello. How are you doing? I'm trying to hurry up and get back to to my house. So And I was trying to rush and get everything done. I'll get it. Just did a network transaction, right? Yes. No, um I had went through the register, but it didn't scan. I can scan it again. Ma'am, if I if I knew I paid for this, I had a receipt. If I didn't have a receipt, I'd be like, "What the hell are you talking about? Of course I paid for it." Right. I mean, it's on it's on my card, but I can scan it again. So, if it didn't go through the card, so I can do it again. Okay. Have you ever stolen from here before, Jennifer? No. Do you have a twin sister? Do you have a brother? No. I don't think I have a brother. Okay. Thank you. I don't think so. So, about that twin sister, it seemed like that might have come out of the blue, but believe it or not, suspects sometimes use that as a defense. And actually, it'd be relevant later on when the suspect changed her mind. I'll scan it. I'll scan it again and see if it works. Okay. Well, I don't think you're being fully honest with me, Jennifer, so I don't think we're going to be able to do that today. I'm going to go get the itemized receipt and I'll be right back. If you have any questions, just [music] hold on. I don't want to go ahead and pay for that if I didn't. So, if it didn't go through my card, I want to do it again. No. What do you mean, no? That's it's straightforward. No, we're not doing that. I don't think you're being honest. Did you steal anything here? Yeah, we're good. Um You have the right to remain silent, and anything you say may be used as evidence against you. If at any time you wish to stop talking or to have an attorney present, all questioning will be stopped at your request. [music] Do you understand what that means? >> Yes. Okay. So, we're just trying to figure out what's going on also. We weren't here for you just saying that. We just have >> Oh, no. I was trying to I was trying to get this phone. Excuse me. What's going on? But, I couldn't get any What's going on? When I was in Starbucks, and I was like looking at my phone, and I was like, "I can't get any What's going on?" So, I went close to so I could get close to the to the door. At first, she claimed she scanned everything, insisting it must have been some kind of card issue. Then, she changed her tune, saying she wanted to get a card from her car, but made a mistake and walked out of the store with the items. Whatever the case, the agent thought the woman looked familiar. You have never shopped here before earlier today? No. >> [music] >> Not that I know of. No. You have not been here. I mean, you know when people say not that I know I hear you, but usually when people say not that I know of, No, I haven't been here. is is a clue for me that says, "Yes." Oh, no. No. Uh-huh. I haven't. So, Like I said, that's unfortunately >> Other than Olive Garden, I've seen been around the area that I was at. [music] Okay. So, you've never shopped here before today. Just to Just today drop her kids off. Okay. So, you weren't here Sunday at all. No. Mhm. No. So, you didn't Not that I don't I mean, >> Not that I know of. No, I don't have a >> [music] >> window I uh I do have one out here, but I don't know where it is. Let's stop. No, I don't I'm serious. Let's stop just there. I do have a >> So, the reason why I asked you that is cuz I know for a fact you were here Sunday. I know that wasn't a funny joke. You have a guy that was being telling you, "Hey, I know you were here Sunday." Who? That's when Jennifer she had a twin out there. The cops tried to cut to the chase and the agent even told the woman that he didn't think she was a career criminal and was just someone who'd made a few mistakes. But even when they showed her the video evidence, she just couldn't stop lying. But I know my identity and stuff was was stolen a couple years ago, so you Having your identity stolen doesn't Oh no, I'm just saying charged with that. >> [music] >> I I didn't. So, I know they asked you, you don't have any prior shoplifting or theft convictions or anything like that in here or the state of Georgia cuz we can find all that information. I don't [music] think. Okay. She's been arrested for shoplifting, he said. In Georgia, as you said. >> by association. What were you doing in the car? Who were you hanging out with? No, they was in the store and I was outside. Okay, not that I know of. I was outside. >> one time? All right, I'm going to go look at my computer and I'll be right back. With this that went down, you are being trespassed from [music] Target. Okay, that's fine. Any chance that your name might be something different? No. No. Cuz you're not coming up for anything. So we have no way to positively identify who you are. The cops didn't buy her story about having a twin or that she was a victim of identity theft. So she then wove an elaborate story saying she'd moved to different states and the DMV kept messing up her information. It was such a twisted story that even she probably didn't understand it. The cops eventually called her out for giving them different last names and birthdays. So you had Georgia, you had Virginia, any other states? Um That's it. I couldn't get it here because I had to wait for the paperwork from Virginia's, so they can I'm not worried about here. I just I need to identify you. Oh yeah, that is me. Jennifer Or Jennifer [music] They probably haven't gotten to What was your birthday again, dear? 73? Yes. So, the one you gave me earlier was 79. It sure was. Yeah. >> the one before that was 78. >> I know my birthday. I know my address. I know my driver's license number from Ohio since I was 16. I I can't even remember that far cuz I uh I have ADHD and then What's your address? 478 or 73. She [music] doesn't seem to know. All right. So, I don't know if they told you you're going to be trespassed from Target. Okay. Which That's this Target here in Palm [music] Coast. Don't come You come back to this Target and they see you and they call us and they want to pursue charges, you're going to be arrested for trespass after warning. Okay. She was trying hard to conceal her past and her reason for doing so became clear. Turns out in both Virginia and Georgia, she'd been convicted for theft. Regardless, the facts of this case remain the same and it boiled down to one thing. Go ahead and say it out for me. You got any weapons on you? No. >> [music] >> All right. Turn around that way. So, you're going to be placed under arrest for shoplifting. I'm going to pull your sleeve up. You want to take your shirt off now before we put the handcuffs on? >> [music] >> No. All righty. So, you don't have anything on you, right? No. All right. No No guns, drugs, knives, nothing? No. ID? No. If you find it in the jail, it's an additional charge. It's 13 oz. That's nothing. She's going to jail. Yes. For how long? Uh that's not up to us. I I Here's Come up here so you don't get hit by a car. Your mom wants me to give you her purse. Do you have ID on you, dear? Yes. Do you have anything anybody else in the car with you? No. So, how did the car get here? She She drove. So, dear, just make sure you don't get caught driving. Your mom said get down here. I didn't see it. So She drove. I'm just letting you know what she said. As for Jennifer's daughter, she was let off with a warning for driving without a license. Jennifer, however, was booked for a felony and posted a $2,500 bond. The charge was later reduced to a misdemeanor and her case remains pending. When it comes to suspicious behavior, loss prevention agents have a very keen eye. And on the 21st of January, 2025, they noticed a shopper glancing around nervously, slipping items into her purse. They realized soon after that it wasn't the first time they'd seen her and by that time, the cops were in route. Ma'am. Oh, he's hurting me. It's all good. >> [laughter] >> How are you doing? I'm good. You got ID on you? No, sir. No? What I do? What I do? Um, so I believe we had a previous incident a couple weeks ago where you ran out of the store with three items that you ran out with. So, I had trespassed you that day. No, you didn't No, I don't I don't No, you didn't. I did trespass you that day. >> No, I I wasn't. I didn't talk to anybody or anything. I had trespassed you that day and I told you you were trespassed. >> No, but you didn't tell me anything though that day. I promise you you didn't. >> to tell you but you ran out the door and then you left so I couldn't even get a chance to speak. So, you're trespassing me now. I'm trying to get home to my five kids. I lost my phone. Is that okay? >> Yeah, it's okay but you you got to wait 1 second. What's your name and date of birth? Lindsay Gordon? Yes. >> [snorts] >> The moment the officers approached her, Lindsay started panicking. The woman's hands were shaking which could have been due to fear but as the cops soon found out, there was likely another reason she was scared. Now you're freaking me out. All my buddies are over there. I'm trying to find my phone. I lost it in the store. You have anything in your cart that's not paid for? >> No, sir. No, no, no. You can check. I got the receipt. I sent the car out. >> [snorts] >> I lost my phone in here somewhere. I don't remember you doing saying I promise you I don't. I really don't. >> me stopping you? No, I really don't. Like I don't remember. That's why I really didn't want to do >> do want to borrow her? Yeah, really. How long do you want to borrow her for? 2 years? You know what that means? Yes, I understand that. I understand that. That's my property. That's fine. 2 years? Am I still able to call my phone now? My kids are trying to get in touch with me. Uh, that's that's up to you. If you want >> I'm trying to get them to call me from here. You can walk with me. Please, it's my phone. I just bought it. And like, they're trying to call me. She tried to play it off like she didn't understand what was happening. And she might have thought she would just get trespassed and be on her way home. However, as the cops took her aside and started searching her bags, she started really freaking out. Yeah, I paid for that. These bags I brought in. Oh, no, no. You know, I paid for that. I've got a jacket in here. Yes, I found it in the parking lot. Yeah, that's just Yes. Yes. Oh, I'm not I did not know this was in here. I swear to God I didn't because somebody else paid for my stuff. >> Okay. Can I please pay for it? Please? >> You didn't know that was in there? >> I didn't I didn't Somebody else paid for it. Stop. Can I please pay for it? I have the money. You can just go to the office right now. I have the money. Please, please don't lock me up. I didn't know. >> weren't getting over here and talk Please just talk to me. Please, sir. >> Put the put the purse right in here. Put the purse in here. Please, all of it's in there. Please, don't lock me The cops clearly didn't trust the woman and decided to take her to the office and get a better look at what she was carrying. Notice how she clutched her bag pretending to take everything out but not really letting the cops inspect it. Please, don't lock me up. We're good. Just walk in here. I didn't know, sir. Please. Here. Please, don't lock me up. Here. Yes, all of it's in there. I promise. I got my phone, my paperwork in here. That's it. What do you want? It's makeup, it's my ticket from the other day. I crossed the road. The other day, though. Very suspicious though. It's in the bags, guys. And these bags, look, there was two bags that were in there that I got from the hotel that I stayed at, so. There's [snorts] a couple of makeup bags that were in there, I promise. Mhm. Like I promise you. You can go through all this stuff. There was nothing in here that's like that or anything. I promise you. She kept promising she hadn't stolen and tried to detail what was in her bag. That being said, she still wasn't handing her bag over and at one point it got so ridiculous that the cop couldn't help himself and started laughing. I don't know what that is. I've been Levi's for years. I promise you can search me. Like I promise you. >> [laughter] >> I promise you can search me. Like I promise it's not mine. All my clothes are in my pocket. What do you know? Good job. >> That wasn't mine. That's not mine. I promise it's not mine. It's been all in your bags. I mean you No, these bags I told you I found them outside. It's not mine, though. You all leave me alone, man. Okay. Please don't lock me up. I'm begging you not to, please, please. Calm down. Calm down. Please, don't lock me up. Calm down. Please, don't lock me up or I'll lose my kids. Please, don't lock me up. You're going to go to jail. Please, don't lock me up. Please, don't lock me up, guys. Please. Ma'am, look, stop. Please, don't lock me up. Stop it. Stop it. That's not how the world works. It isn't. You know I'll lose my kids. She begged them over and over not to take her to jail and slowly but surely the cops were losing their patience. The thing is, she had so many items in her cart, it was taking forever to review them. She was saying some of the things were hers, some were from the hotel, and some of them she supposedly picked up in the parking lot. Please don't hurt me. I I I I think you said that more than once. >> [snorts] >> Calm down. >> purse? We're going to try to decide what we're doing from here, so we need to see what all we got here, okay? Those bags I got from the hotel. Okay, that's fine. I'm not saying they're not yours. I don't know how I'm getting in trouble. What am I going to do? You're not hurting me stuff up. I know. Hm? He told me. Yeah. My brother. Pills. Oh, they're my diabetic. I'm not trying to get in trouble. I'm not trying to That's a um speaker. I got that from the hotel. There's nothing in it. Are there cigarettes in your dirty? No, yeah. Okay. I know you're going to take me, Joey, but let me smoke one before you take me. Listen, calm down. Please. There's nothing in there. It's bandages. It's my diabetic. Okay. And that was in that bag in the parking lot. I kind of halfway went through the stuff. I don't have gloves on, so I wasn't going to dig through it. >> There's nothing in there. You're not going to do anything to you. Please, I'm begging you. I'm not running a chicken, please. If all that stuff really wasn't hers, and she'd found it in the parking lot, how could she be so sure there was nothing in there that could hurt the police? At that point, one of the cops finally snatched that purse from her that she'd been holding so tightly. What something tells me if we found anything bad in here, you'd say you found it in the parking lot. No, I didn't hear you. You said something. Those bags Okay, so let me just point this out to you. See this right here? What is this? It's a straw. What do you use that for? What do people use straws for? Drinking soda. What do you use a straw for? That Yeah, what What is that? It's got makeup. I'm not trying to get in trouble. It's got makeup and stuff on it. Yes, but it's melted on the end. So, what do you use the straw for? No, it's been I'm not, yeah, I'm Which is the same thing that's in the little glasses case, right? Then that was all in that bag. You got them separated? Yeah, I did. You What was in the bag? So this isn't your straw, either? No, no, I'm saying no. No, you got those bags I just dropped the straw in there. >> I just listen, this is a big thing. Like we we I do this for 12 hours a day most days. >> in there. It's just a straw. I don't I don't like being lied to. >> trying to lie to you. When the cops found the melted straw, it was a pretty good indication of drug use, and sure enough, the cops also found foil and a little bit of meth. The bag was also littered with loose ibuprofen and some other pills. Why do you have so much stuff in your purse that's not in like a bottle or something? Cuz honestly, like from where I found from where I was at between eight, I just found stuff out there in the parking lot. I just throw it in there. No, seriously, like I really do like it. >> So no, what I'm saying you got ibuprofen in here. Do you take ibuprofen? >> Yes, sir, I do. So why would you take ibuprofen that's in a bag with all the stuff that you pick up in a parking lot and throw in a bag? Huh? Why would you have ibuprofen in here that you take and then throw all the bunch of stuff that you pick up in a parking lot? I don't know cuz I I mean I dumped when I was homeless I would dumpster dive and stuff. >> [snorts] >> But that makes [clears throat] no sense. You wouldn't want to take pills that have been in a a purse with a bunch of nasty things that were found in a parking lot. Right. I'm sorry. I'm just saying that that doesn't make sense. Right. No. Okay. Please don't take me to jail. I mean I really hope that's ibuprofen and not ecstasy or something cuz you just touched it with your hands. Oh, I got one glove, man. It's all good. I got gloves, man. When the employee wrapped up his paperwork, he officially banned her from the property, but that wasn't all because he had more bad news. Since she'd [music] stolen multiple items, they were going to charge her as well. So you're taking me to jail? Yeah, we're taking you. Why? Can I please have me smoke please? Please. You're going to have to ask that man over there. Can I please let me smoke a cigarette, please? I I I don't mean to be rude, but I don't smoke, so I don't have like the smell of cigarette smoke on my clothes. I'm going to have like a nervous breakdown. I'm going to have a nervous breakdown. I'm going to have a nervous breakdown. Please, please, please, I'm begging you. Please, sir, please, please, please, please, can I Calm down for me. Please. Please, sir. Get up. Turn around. Can I please smoke a cigarette, please? You got another straw, don't you? No, that was not There's nothing in that one. That's really just one of my kid's drinking straws. And there's nothing on those foils at all. You can check them here with my hat. Here, check them. There's nothing in them. [snorts] She begged and begged them, but she couldn't escape her fate. On the ride to the jailhouse, the officer explained to the woman that they used to write tickets for shoplifting, but now things had changed, and she had to be taken to jail. Still though, they did the woman a favor and overlooked the meth they found on her, so she ended up being lucky that day after all. On November 25th, 2024, a man tried to walk out of a store with over $300 worth of unpaid merchandise. When the loss prevention agents tried to stop the man, he became aggressive, started threatening them, and even spat at them. They managed to forcefully detain him, and the cops were on their way. How's it going? Yep, he just arrived, so I'm going to let you go. Hey, what's I what? They mad They mad that I called him a And he mad cuz I called him a boy. Okay, so I'll talk to you in just a second, okay? What's your name? Man, they got my information. Okay. So, who's the employee that this happened [clears throat] to? The name Okay. I'm sorry. If you two could walk over here and have a conversation with me, thank you. Rodriguez, if you just want to hang out. What were the items that he stole? What was the amount? Uh So, he stole toys. Is this all the stuff that he stole? >> Stuff >> stole. Okay. So, what he did is he went to aisle 17. He removed it all off the shelf, put it in his Target bags and stuff. Okay. You went around the store [music] and maintained constant observation. Mhm. And then he goes to self-checkout with his friend. According to the employee, the suspect's friend selected a few items for himself, then paid for them, unaware of what his friend was up to. After the main suspect was detained, his friend stayed with him, although he'd only met the man a few days ago. So when we were talking to him, he was he seemed to be okay. I said, "Hey, we need all the toys back. We're going through all the bags." Then he starts yelling at us. I said, "Dude, you got to calm down." Okay. And then he he starts saying he's like a lion king and this and that. Okay. And then he got in my partner's face over here. >> He got in his partner's face, threatening that he's going to beat us up and everything. I said, "Okay, let's go ahead and detain him. Let's get him upstairs. Let's get him to the police." Once we were detaining him, um we went to go bring him upstairs, and that's when he spit at my partner. Okay. And then while we were up here, So he spit at you? He spit on me. He spit on you. Okay. Where did you get hit? >> got hit here. I wiped it off already. Okay. So he spit on me multiple times. He threatened to kill me and my family. Okay. He's a lion king. He's going to come through. >> he also spit on me in the office, and he spit on the store director, and she was up here. There was a lot of witnesses. Okay. A lot of spitting. Yeah. Okay. Okay. So let's I guess start with the simple stuff for the theft. >> Yep. Does Jewel want to pursue charges? We sure do. Yep. Okay. We also want him for trespass. Okay. We can take care of that. Although both employees and the manager have been spat on, the anger, as well as the saliva, were clearly directed at the man wearing a hat that [music] said Detroit. The employees were just standing in the splash zone and ended up being collateral damage. Now here comes more complicated walls. This complicated was not, but would you like to pursue charges for battery, for the spitting? Of course. Okay. Okay. So [sighs and gasps] would you be willing to fill out a written statement? Yep. Okay. Anybody who witnessed all that, would you be willing to fill out a written statement? Yeah? Okay. Okay. >> have any like the video any of that stuff in that office? Okay. Okay. Did he give you guys a name or anything like that? >> his ID. Oh, you have his ID? >> He was complying at first, then he got in his face and he got all messed up cuz he started to threaten to beat us up and everything, so Okay. Okay, so at first he like just gave you the ID and he was like okay. So we So we stopped him. He was being cool, like I said, and then you know, I said, "Hey, do you have an ID?" And of course he didn't give it. And then he gave it. I said, "Okay, cool. So we're taking this for our records, you know, as we're going, don't come back." Then he started He was like I don't remember exactly what he said at that point. Um but then I know he he got up, got in his face, started claiming, "I'm going to beat you, boy." >> While one of the cops listened to the employees' accounts, the suspect, later identified as Edwin, tried to get the other cop to loosen his handcuffs. He was even trying to play the we're both Latino card, but it didn't get him far. Hey bro, can you loosen these cuffs for me? Nope. Damn, you Mexican? Nope. What are you? Puerto Rican? Honduran? Salvadorian? You Latin though, I'm Latin, yeah. Yeah, I see. You can't help a brother out here loosen these cuffs for me? Easy. Cool. You right. I spit in your face. It's not very nice. Yeah. Could have. Think about it. I said that's not very nice, man. Oh, I know. You hurt my feelings. I said loosen these cuffs for me. You want to talk to my supervisor? Hey, quick question. How does this whole no cash bail thing work in Illinois? Typically with that, it's um I was I would ask a cop about that. I never talked to a cop about that. So essentially it makes certain offenses non-sailable where we wouldn't arrest, right? And then >> Basically if you don't pay for a murder or anything, right? It depends on the offense. As long as it's letting out on a misdemeanor. Yeah, basically you get like a ticket It It'd be a ticket. It'd be a ticket to appear in court type So is he going to get arrested tonight or is he >> Dude, I have no idea. The one positive thing, if there was one, was the suspect's friend. He had every chance to leave, but he stayed. And whenever Edwin started getting out of line, his friend would try to calm him down a bit or try to steer the conversation in a different direction. All right. Hey, man. My name is Officer Wilham, okay? Would you be willing to talk to me? Yeah. Okay, so I can see you got some handcuffs on you. So you're in [music] custody you are most likely in custody. Okay. So before I ask you any questions, I'm going to advise you of your [music] constitutional rights, okay? You have the right to remain silent, do you understand? I need you to do tell me yes or no. Yeah. Yeah, I want my lawyer. All right, so you're not going to answer any questions? I'm going to what I say and that's that. Okay. Did you want to tell me your side of the story or not? Yeah. The officer repeated the Miranda warnings and this time the suspect confirmed he understood his rights and decided to talk to them. His angle was that the loss prevention agents used excessive force. So Do you want to answer questions or do you want a lawyer? I'll answer questions. Okay. All right, so what were you doing at Jewel today? Getting something to eat. Getting something to eat? So then why did these loss prevention guys catch you with a whole bunch of toys? Cuz they were in a car they laid it on the top of all the bags. They were paying. They thought we got them at Target. That's that. Okay, so then why did you walk past the last point of sale, those checkout self-checkouts with all those items in your cart? I was saying that and I was on my phone. He was swiping. So, Okay. He was swiping all through the thing. So, why did you start spitting on people? Cuz they told me. They choked you? Yeah. And I got three I told them I got three broken ribs, that's why I'm in the park, you know, automatic park. Edwin claimed he was just pushing the cart while looking at his phone. Supposedly, he thought his friend had paid already for the goods in the cart. According to Edwin, it was just an honest mistake, but the employees at the store immediately got aggressive. He got in my face first. Okay. >> I got in his face back. I stood up though cuz I got three broken ribs, bro. He He turned around to me, I stood up. He got mad. He choked me cuz I I don't know what. How did he choke you? Like around my neck. He He told me, "Do you want to die right now?" Okay, but it's like I'm asking like specifically how did they choke you? Imagine his hand around your neck. No, imagine I want you to sit there. If you move again, I'm going to put you in handcuffs, you understand? Just sit down. Imagine your hand He choked me with his right arm around my neck. Okay. >> And he put his left arm behind my back, back of my neck, so he got me in a lock. Okay. Okay, so there's video footage. I'm going to review it all. >> Okay. Okay? All right. Do you want to tell me anything else about what happened today? >> No, I just want to go home, man. Since he was already facing multiple charges, the officer recuffed him and then walked him outside toward a squad car. As they were heading out, Edwin's friend took the chance to apologize for butting in so much earlier. I honestly didn't know that I I mentally I mentally I'm sorry. I can understand that people have certain disorders, okay? I'm not faulting you for that. I really didn't know who I was I was getting involved with. I have autism, sir. Let me talk. Okay?
