on the ground. [screaming] >> Did you ask her for money or anything like that? >> No, I got my own money. >> Okay, so you guys So you never [music] asked her for money? >> I got my own money. Food stamps on 700 balance just updated yesterday. I don't need [music] nobody's >> Get out of the car. >> No. >> Get out of the car. >> Get out of the car. >> Get out of the car. Put your hands behind your back now. Put your hands behind your back now. Put your hands behind your back. You're going to get tased. Put your hands behind your back. >> As far as these scammers go, they're liars, cheaters, and thieves. And when they get caught, their behavior only intensifies. Thankfully though, the cops have seen it all before, and their outlandish lies and nonsense stories are not going to fool them. But when they try it, we see the most satisfying cases of manipulative scammers getting humbled. Ma'am, you just put something down the back of your pants. >> I didn't put an ID down the back of my pants. >> Okay. You put >> Oh, you mean that one that just fell out? >> On the 10th of November, 2023 in Chambbley, Georgia. The cops were called to an apartment complex after getting reports about a suspicious rental applicant. Once the manager discovered they were trying to rent the place with a fake ID, he called the police. Did you call? >> No. The Okay, so I bought a house from these people. >> Oh, who who called? >> What's What's going on here? >> I bought a house from these people or whatever. Well, a rent house. I rented a house and um >> they're saying they can't verify my ID, right? >> They I already paid them 3500 >> plus >> who you paid >> them. I paid them 3500 plus um 2600 and I paid my renters's insurance. >> They saying they can't verify my ID. >> Did you call? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Why y'all wouldn't come talk to me? Y'all got my money. I'm not being disrespectful. >> No, no. I told you this is only our job. >> But I'm so confused. You told me. >> Hold on one second. What? What am I here for? >> I And I've been to her to call you. >> That's because uh we are broker here. We are profit manager here. And we are trying to hover her to move in inspection but uh but guys we cannot double uh confirm that her ID given everything ID. >> Do you want me to confirm my ID? >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> You got ID on you? >> Yeah. >> The suspected scammer said her name was Kendall. But when the property manager handed her ID over, the cop could see right away that the photo didn't match. To find the truth out, he eventually ran her name through the police database. Why do they have this ID? It's not you. >> ID. I am not sure. >> Okay. >> You can hold it for >> Do you have your ID? >> Yes. It's in my wallet and it's I'm going to tell them to come back around. >> But what I'm saying is y'all could just give me my money. >> Yeah, she she she just show me another ID. >> Open the door for me. What are you talking about? >> We should have another ID. >> She just show me another ID. >> Should we get my money back or should I still move in here? Do you have the other ID? Cuz this one doesn't actually match you at all. >> It's my card. I'm going to give it to you. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> It's that she's got to show me her other ID and I'll I'll figure out. >> She showed me another >> You have You have the other one? >> She She just show me another ID with her and she just decide the ID not with her. >> She >> All right. Here's the thing. That ID is not here. It says you're 510. Do >> you can you verify any of the information? >> I'm trying to verify all the information with them, but they won't let me. >> All right. Can I see that other one, too? >> I'm just saying, ma'am. It doesn't doesn't It looks [laughter] fishy. I understand why they called. >> Backup arrived. And at that point, it was pretty clear what was going on. When the officer told Kindle she was being detained, he saw the woman slip something down the back of her pants. She denied it, even offering to take her pants off to prove otherwise. I have to get an officer out here to search you >> purse. >> Ma'am, you just put something down the back of your pants. >> What are you talking about? >> Get an officer then. >> Okay, then fine. I will. >> Excuse me. >> Ma'am, >> what am I doing? >> Right now, he asked me to detain you. Okay. >> Okay. >> So, that's what you're being detained. Okay. >> Okay. >> So, you're not free to wander around. You're not free to do anything. >> I'm sorry. Sorry. >> Okay. So, what ID did you put down the back of your pants? I didn't put an ID down the back of my pants. >> Okay. You put >> Oh, you mean that one that just fell out? >> Calm down. Calm down. Calm down. >> Calm down. >> You know how to drive this. You can pick me up. >> I got I'll take it. I'll take >> Can you please get this? [laughter] Yeah. >> Hey, relax. >> All right. >> Look, it's it looks like you're using 398 radio. Go and start investigating. You got to run away. >> Well, why would he try to do this and all it is? >> You were just under detainment. Now you're under arrest. >> Why? >> It doesn't take a genius level IQ to know that's never a good idea. If the cops didn't think she was guilty already, they almost certainly did after that. >> All right. >> Not let him deal with the text. Try to run away. >> Why'd you run? >> He is a fake ID. I'm trying to get a house with somebody else. >> I got her ID for >> It is a fake ID. >> Oh, this is very fake. >> Yeah. >> Trying to get it from somebody. Maybe you should have fessed up or something. I don't know. >> Are you going to take me to jail? >> You got to go to jail now. Especially if you're trying to run. >> Who's who's rolling around the neighborhood with you? >> They just giving me my clothes. >> I'm telling them to put my clothes in. >> No, you're under arrest. You're not doing that. >> Can you tell my clothes are getting moved out of my house? Can I just tell the move to put it back in, please? Look, you're under arrest right now. We got to We got to do one thing at a time. Okay. >> Okay. But can you help me >> here? Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead and put put your back towards me so I can get these >> back on speaker. >> So they can't get in and out of my house without me. >> We'll do we'll do that later. Okay. >> Okay. >> For all I know, that's your accomplice. I don't know. >> After her continuous whining, the officer eventually let her call her brother, who she claimed was at her house with the movers. She was planning on moving into a new house that day. But little did she know that she was moving to a jail cell. >> Can you come in the thing? You got to get my phone. Going to jail and I need you to get my phone so you can tell the movers to come back in. Got to tell my brother he move. >> Hold on. Hold on. >> I'm going to walk over. >> Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. >> Hello. >> Yeah, just move my stuff back in. I'm going to jail. If people call the police on me, >> can you pick >> Can you put all my stuff back in my apartment? >> Right. >> Evening stuff, everything. >> Okay. Yeah, I know. >> But I can't You ain't going to be able to access it because I got the phone, but I'm about to give my phone to um B-roll so he can access it for you. >> You might be able to. >> All right, that's it. >> Okay, let me let me unlock my phone so I can give it >> in the car. When Kendall declared that she was going to jail, her brother seemed completely unfaced. It was almost like it was just an average day for her. Her brother didn't even ask her why she was being arrested. He was either in on the scam or she'd already been caught before. >> One more thing. Can I please call my Lord, you can keep him on the phone while >> I'm not doing anything until I figure out who you are. >> I can tell you who I am. >> Where you from? >> I'm from here. I'm just trying to get a house. I got I gotit on my record. Let me get a house in my name. That's all I'm trying. >> Hold on. >> Like, >> how do I spell your last name? >> There's no way you could detain me. Untamed me. >> No. >> Can I please tell my lawyer I'm going to >> You are under arrest and you're not going to talk to your lawyer. You'll talk to your lawyer when you get to jail. >> The cops suspected she'd lied about her identity due to her criminal past. But after finally getting hold of her real ID, they found out she was clear. As things turned out, she was using a fake ID so the renters wouldn't find out about her terrible credit scores. >> Real quick though, it is still because she submitted it to them as her ID. >> Too soon, not I never gave her the ID one time. You the only person who seen the ID. Somebody else got me approved for this house. The first girl that they showed you on the ID. >> No, stop lying here. >> What are you lying about? What? >> Take take do what you guys got to do the ID. I ain't give it to >> She had two pictures of of two >> and one of them had your picture on it. So you So you submitted but I didn't show it >> and you're going to jail. >> So you she submitted that as her fraud. That's all you >> and I submitted it. I >> Kendall or whoever she really was was placed under arrest and charged with false identification and obstruction of law enforcement. They booked the woman into Decal County Jail. In Georgia, possession of a fake ID can get you a year in jail. On September 1st, 2023, the cops were called to a shopping mall after reports of an altercation between two men, but it was no ordinary fight, and it quickly turned bizarre. One of the men accused the other of stealing his identity. >> What's going on? Thank you so much. >> What's going on? You're not going anywhere. Just not let go. Where you going? >> Christ, >> what's going on here? >> Okay, so there's a misunderstanding. He thinks I'm someone that stole his identity, but I'm not. >> Okay. >> Uh, he uh just came and attacked me. I think he's scared of running. >> Uh, I don't know. >> I'm scared. >> Okay. I can see that you're running pretty hard or something. Why are you sweating so hard? >> Yeah, he he dragged me all the way from over there to your >> I don't know. You tell me. >> Yeah. >> Let me tell you what's happening, sir. So, jerking me around and jerking me around and jerking. >> Okay. All right. Slow down. I'm going this one person at a time. Okay. got my social security number, everything. My identity is like uh stolen already >> and I keep receiving like in mail like some credit card application, some of denied like some approved. >> The victim explained that a few months prior he got a letter from his credit card company about a loan on a Land Rover, but he insisted he never took one out. But that wasn't all. He also got a message about a SIM card change, and once again, it wasn't him. >> At that point, I just right away called to customer support in moment. So they asking me like, "Yeah, yeah, someone is already requesting. It's not you. It's not me. I I confirmed everything and my identity entry. He cancelled that request. >> So he told me like the location where it is requesting is coming. >> So I came mobile here. >> When I came in like the person was out the one who checking like at mobile I was just waiting for him and then at that moment he just came in. I have like a picture of him like from the account. >> No, they merged together. And where where's our lift house again? >> It's fine, bro. I just screenshot from my lift account. He got the picture like the he profile picture. So when I was checking >> when he came into the mobile, >> how can I just came in? >> Okay. And you happen to recognize him? >> Yeah. >> So I asked him the the person at the retail store. >> So what is the problem with you? So I I told him this is this what is happening. So >> when I when I talked to him, I saw him, right? It's okay. >> This is a guy. >> Okay. >> Yeah. He said, "Yes, this is the guy." So after like he just ran away when went out, right? So he got everything like he got hold on ID. So I just got the ID. This ID and this car it's not mine, >> but he have it. >> Not only had the suspect taken a car out in the victim's name, but he'd also used the victim's lift account, tried to take a SIM card out with his credit card, and was even carrying his ID. How the man got a hold of it was anyone's guess. Where was he when this stuff fell out of his pocket? >> Like when T-Mobile like I noticed him right >> inside T-Mobile. >> Just he will run away right when he ran out like he pulled everything. He just he was >> right there in front of T-Mobile. This stuff too or this was yours or this is his? >> Oh, this is him. This is the Capital One, I believe. Yeah, Capital One. He had a credit card. They sent me a letter and they >> You don't have a Capital One? No. Okay. He just applied then have it then try to purchase somewhere else at where like in Chicago right and they send me like I report them this is a fraud man no he had every information he's provided ID everything so we approved him and we believe that's him so you are responsible for any charges that's happening so far >> the victim had done some impressive detective work and it was clear the suspect had chosen the wrong guy to steal from the cop then went to talk to the suspect to get his side of the story >> this He's some random person that I walked in uh since and he got like really close to me. He was here in my car. >> You guys right here? >> No, not a couple down the way. >> Okay. >> And uh he uh grabbed my shirt and started yanking. >> He started yanking on your shirt. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I'm like, "Dude, what the hell are you doing?" I was like, "Hey." >> So you guys are walking and all of a sudden he starts doing that? >> Yeah. He keeps getting closer and closer and squeezing squeezing harder and harder right on my arm. I'm like, "Hey, dude. Let go of my arm. I can't breathe." like I'm dehydrated then like who's ambulance. >> No, I need some water. >> I don't have any water. I can get you an ambulance. >> Nothing else is going on. I just got >> I know. >> Give me a sec. >> You need something to drink and dude. She's blowing me up. >> Let her know you're at the police and then you need to She wants to wait. >> You want I can talk to her. >> Um the only thing that I didn't notice is that our list account are merging. I created like four tickets on it. >> Who's this guy? >> Uh, mine is >> this guy? >> Yeah. >> But you say you never met him. >> Well, no, I never met him, but he looks familiar. >> What? Okay, now you're making >> so explain. You >> said you never knew this. >> So, this is a picture that uploads on Lift, right? When you sign in. >> So, you you do know them? >> I don't know. >> Okay. So, how is your lift account together? >> It's not It's not supposed to. That's lifts there, but they're somehow merging us together. So, show me my picture on his his picture on mine. >> Well, it was a lousy excuse, but he still thought it might work. It was really an outlandish coincidence that the man's Lyft account was merged with some random person who's accused of stealing their identity, even if it was true that Lyft had a glitch that still didn't explain why the victim's credit card and identity had been used by the suspect. >> So, now's your chance if you want to tell me something about what's going on today. What's going on tonight? >> All right. So, I came in this morning to get a replacement SIM card cuz my cellular service has been right. Okay. >> By T-Mobile. >> Okay. >> So, I go to the T-Mobile store and they said, "Okay, wait 10 minutes." They did some sort of reset on their side and they said, "Wait 10 minutes, then uh restart your phone and go back into it." I was like, "All right." So, I left 15 20 minutes and then I called the 1800 uh team. I was like, "Hey, what the hell?" You know, they told me to do this. It didn't work. So, like, okay, go back, right? And so that was my only option. And um previously our lift accounts have been merging. This is lift pair. >> Okay. >> So basically his profile picture showing up on mine and my profile picture showing up on his. >> Okay. >> And >> he was trying to blame the mixup on some technical error by both Lyft and the car loan company. But come on, how dumb did he think the cop was? It also didn't make any sense that he was carrying the victim's ID and his credit card. >> To let you know my uh my wife's in like third trimester. Okay. >> Now she's holding back to back. >> Okay. And what's with this stuff, >> dude? That's all him. I don't know what the hell. >> He's got a video of you holding these things. >> Yeah, cuz he >> inside T-Mobile before any of this happened based on your story. So, remember I told you you tell me a story that doesn't sound like it makes sense. I'm going to have a hard time believing anything you say. Now, I have a hard time believing anything you say. >> You're standing inside T-Mobile calmly at the counter holding these items. >> Okay. So that is from uh >> I I gave him all the info already. He wanted to know where it came from, right? >> And I I told him where it came from and what she did with it and who she is and all of that. So So what parts are you making up today? All of it? Some of it? None of it? >> Tell me what's going on. I'm asking you questions. This is your one chance to tell me what's going on. Um, >> who is she to you? >> An acquaintance, a friend of a friend, >> something like that. >> Okay. >> Um, and uh, pretty much his driver's license has been passed around to a couple people. >> Okay. >> Um, and uh, that ended up with me because she jumped in the car with me one time. She dropped it in the passenger seat. >> Okay. >> By that point, it was obvious the cop had had enough. The man's story was just getting more and more confusing, and he still hadn't explained what he was up to trying to get a phone contract in the victim's name. >> So, why do you have a credit card with his name on it? >> That I don't believe that's why. >> It just happens to be a credit card that he doesn't know anything about that happens to be with the driver, his driver's license, and falls out of your pocket. >> Remember, I said your story is not real believable. >> You've had the chance. I did not fall. >> Okay. So, when I watch the video, none of this stuff is going to come out of your hands >> or your pockets or anywhere near you. Won't be laying on the ground when you fall. >> No, not my No. >> Okay. How did this stuff all end up looking like this? Like this piece torn out of here. >> Why is that like that? >> Basically just straight down to the ground and I have a back problem. I have stenosis. >> I'm like, "Hey, dude." Like I'm stressed as an egg, man. Like stop. What are you doing? I can't deal with that schizophrenic stuff, dude. Like I uh I got heart problems myself. >> He rattled off quite a list of ailments. Back problems, scoliosis, heart issues, as well as having a wife in her third trimester. At that point, it was hard to tell what was real and what was a lie. Regardless, he'd lost all his credibility. And from that point, the cop wouldn't believe a word he said. So you you happened to come to T-Mobile because of that and then he was and you saw him here or what? >> Yeah. Like as I said like 11:54 I have received this >> 31 running this direction going east of the mall. 25 eastbound. >> Hey, stop. Police stop. >> PUT YOUR HANDS [screaming] BEHIND YOUR BACK. SINCE HIS LIES didn't work on the officer, the man panicked and made a run for it, which pretty much showed his guilt. And that being said, he ran pretty fast for a guy who claimed to have terrible health issues. But as fast as he ran, he wasn't fast enough. >> Hey, behind your back. >> Come on. Move your hand. Also, you're not coming through your traffic. >> You need an ambulance. >> Get up. Get up. Get up. >> All right. Where do you go now? >> All right. >> They arrested the man and he was charged with identity theft, credit card fraud, concealing identity, fleeing and eluding, and resisting arrest. It was a long list of crimes, and if they found the man guilty, there'd be quite a heavy punishment. On December 17th, 2024, the cops were called out to meet a Chinese couple and interview the pair about a massive fraud operation related to gift cards. The suspects, Lingham Chin and Kawanlu, drained hundreds of thousands of dollars from innocent victims across Florida. >> Hello. How's it going? Do me a favor. Have a seat. >> What? Have a seat for me. >> Me? >> Either one. >> You guys got your IDs on you? >> Yeah. >> You get that, please? >> You got your ID, please. >> She's getting it. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. Have a seat for me. >> Oh, I was about to get you. >> Thank you. Um, I'm thinking I'm going take them by car so we can separate them. They stop talking. >> Okay. >> No, no. Sit. >> Mm-m. He had a warrant. >> What is warrant? >> He had a warrant out of a different county. Burner's arrest out of Sarasota. >> A warrant. >> Can you translate? >> Mhm. >> Chinese. [music] >> The officers had a warrant and showed up at the Airbnb where the couple had been staying. Jen was claiming to not understand English, but it was an obvious attempt to avoid accountability. I I I think >> what is uh [music] which area? >> Theft. >> Uh which area? Like New York, California. I don't know. >> I'm unsure. I didn't >> [music] >> I will let you know more information. >> Can I get my phone? >> By now you're detained. >> Their modus operandi was to take real gift cards off grocery store shelves, scratch them off, and record the pin numbers and ID numbers. They would then receal the packaging and put the cards back in the store display. The moment someone bought one and activated the compromised card, these two fraudsters could access the funds. >> Right now, we got Macy's, we got Home Depot, >> Amazon, >> Dicks, all kind of stuff. >> Target. >> That's just what my guys are finding today. That's not what else. >> What is What are they doing? Did you see video? >> Yeah, I went to the store. So they they come in with stacks of cards that they've already cut from another store and they take the numbers and they re package that. They reseal it with like hot glue that the little brown package the gift card comes in. >> So like the girl walks in and goes to like Amazon or Target, takes [music] a stack of them, basically walks away and then the guy comes in with the other ones that they've already cut and he puts [music] them back in place. So they now take the uncut cards and they go cut them somewhere else. And it looks like they go to another store and replace them. So when I buy a gift card, I ring it up and I put a hundred bucks on it [music] to Publix and then I go and give it to him and he opens it later. The card's cut, the numbers are cut out of them and [clears throat] as soon as I activate a Publix manager told me as soon as I pay for it at Publix 100 bucks, somehow they get notice of that [music] serial number or that number and they're able to use it online or whatever. >> It was a near-perfect and lucrative scam. But when a sharpeyed employee noticed something was off, their scam got exposed and he informed the police. At that point, as far as the couple's activities went, the investigators had a physical and digital trail. >> Just uh confirm the confirmation. >> Have you been to jail before in Florida? >> Uh sir, I don't know English. >> Okay, give me one second. I'll get it done for you. >> Thank you. >> Anything else on you? >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> That's it. Nothing else. >> Nothing. >> Do your favor. Get in the car. >> What What language do you speak? >> Uh, Mandarin. >> Mandarin. >> Okay. I'll I'll get a a translate. Okay. >> And there. Okay. forward. >> No. [music] No. >> After being tipped off by the store employee, the investigators watched the couple closely. They formed a solid case, gathering surveillance footage, transaction records, and store reports across multiple counties. I don't have any uh weapon to uh things to change it to me because I see some video on the uh social media. So I will do nothing just follow you guys that uh you want me to >> Okay, just sit here. We're going to have someone come talk to you. Okay. >> To get an idea the kind of money they've been making. The male suspect was driving a base level Bentley. In the United States, a car like that one runs about 200 grand. Altogether, the couple had scammed 42 stores across Florida. >> Is it your car? >> The vehicle? >> Um, not >> your Is that your husband or boyfriend? >> Is it his car? >> I'm not sure. But I have my car. >> What kind of car do you have? Finance. >> What? Finance. Is that your car out there? >> Whose car is it? >> I think this but it's also finance car because sometimes his friend also will use this card. A lot of people use this card. So I'm not sure. Okay. Uh, just another minute or two. Someone's going to talk to you. >> About 10 minutes. 10 minutes. >> Okay, just 10 minutes. >> It was clear she spoke better English than she was letting on and the officers knew it. The cops, of course, had seen it all before and they were not going to be fooled. It also helped the cops that nowadays there are tons of programs online that help with translation. >> Are they cooperative? >> Oh, no. She doesn't know. She's not very >> without him. >> He's >> Do we have her on video? Yes. Right. We have her in >> walking in and putting him everybody. >> Is it a rental or come back to work out? >> Look at that. Looks like it go all around Florida. >> Yeah. Just stealing money. The cops had multiple surveillance videos gathered from multiple stores across Florida. In the video, you could plainly see the couple as they tampered with the cards on the shelves. Strangely enough though, the couple lived in New York and it was unclear why they chose to carry out this scam in Florida. >> How are you? Good. You speak English a >> little bit. Stand up. You want to get something out of your room? >> You have Do you have something you want to get out like a phone or something? >> You have ID? >> Oh, Brian has a >> my highway. >> My laptop. >> Laptop. I can't think of your laptop. >> Uh because it's from my uh companies from my So I >> We'll take that. You have your phone? >> Uh yes. Okay. >> Yep. >> All right. >> Yes. I was just going to ask you. And also, she wants to know if we can get her two phones. Two phones. Three phones. >> Two phone and three laptops. >> Two phones and three laptops that she's open. 70 sitting at the open door. >> Oh, okay. >> Um, laptops are yours. >> Yeah. >> All of them. >> What did you say about work? program. >> No, the computers from work, too. >> Uh, yes. >> Two of them. >> Yeah. One from >> Yeah. >> After searching the couple's apartment, the cops found numerous gift cards, including some that had been ripped up and partially flushed down the toilet. Both Lou, who was undocumented, and Chen, who was in the US on a student visa, were charged with scheme to defraud. On the 11th of January 2024, the cops called a female suspect who said her name was Camela trying to carry out a fraud at a Verizon store. As things turned out, she was trying to buy a phone with a stolen identity. >> Hi, how are you, ma'am? >> Hello. >> Hey, I'm Officer FP. I've got a body cam on. We got called out here for like a problem with your account or something like that. Are are you Is it your account that you're trying to open up a phone under or you trying to open up on some >> No, I already have an account. >> Okay. >> But why am I getting called on? So, it it's something to do with the the phone being under somebody else's account that you're opening up and it's like a 20-year-old account. Do you have your ID on you? >> No. What they talking about? >> So, who whose whose name is the account under? >> Mine. >> It's under your name. >> Yes. And this is my phone that the code got sent to. I'm not They just activated them. She said, "Put them on speaker." He put on speaker. I told them I'll come back tomorrow cuz they're going to close. >> Okay. >> That's my only problem. This is my phone. I didn't call in or anything. They said allow. I clicked allow. I've been had the service for a long time. >> Okay. Same phone number and everything. >> Yes. >> Okay. How long have you had Verizon as your carrier? >> Like 2 years. >> 2 years. Okay. >> Camela, who clearly had an attitude, claimed she had no idea why the cops had been called. But her attempt at acting dumb really didn't stand a chance as the evidence was mounting that she tried to commit fraud. >> Do you have your ID on you? >> Yes. Let me get out the car. >> Or you're good. You don't have to go out there. I'll just take your name. D. >> Who's uh in the car? >> My friend. >> Your friend. Okay. So, the account is all under your name and everything like that. Okay. What's your last name? Tim. What's his name? >> Um, I don't know. My I just met him. He's an old friend. >> Where's your ID out of there? >> In the car. >> Where at? >> Um, probably that cup holder. >> She has to check the cup holder. >> You have a picture of your ID? >> No. Oh, let me look. >> Do you have anything on your account that helps? Cuz I'm not getting anything back for that name. Okay. I'm going be honest with you. You don't look like you were born in 89. >> I mean, I'm happy everybody say, but >> Oh, I don't understand. Okay. >> Didn't you Did you give them ID? >> No, I gave him my phone number and he sent the code to my phone. I literally didn't even make it far. Okay. >> I just made it to >> right now. And then I got on the phone with the credit line. She has a hold on my account. So, after she sent the code to my phone, she sent the code. I allowed it. >> Then that was it. Okay, you keep looking for like something with your name on it. >> She was in a Verizon store, a place of business, but she had no ID whatsoever. And on top of that, she also told the cops that she didn't know her old friend's name, who was waiting outside the store, and claimed that they just met. That of course was a lie. >> How long have you lived this? >> About two years. >> Two years. >> Okay. Does anybody live there with you? >> I live with someone. >> Who Who do you live with? >> Um my sister's sister. What's her name? >> Um, >> without looking at your phone. >> You don't know the person's last name you live with? >> This is my sister. Sister. So, you want my sister name? I >> What's your sister's name? >> What's your sister's name? >> I just told you my sister name. >> You don't have anything in your in your purse with your ID on it? >> No. My mom was just going to send me nothing something now. >> Do you have like a credit card or a debit card? [music] >> No. You don't have any credit card, debit card? >> No, I left my actually I left my cuz this purse is so small. I have like a little wallet. Well, the wallet is kind of big and as funny as I literally left my wallet at home. I'm like, damn, I don't have my wallet on. >> Camila claimed that she didn't have a credit card despite earlier claiming that she was planning to buy a phone. As far as that friend in the car, she said she didn't know their name and she didn't know her friend's name that she supposedly lived with. There were a lot of conflicting details. For a scammer, she was incredibly bad at lying. >> You don't know this guy? >> Yeah, he's my friend. What's his name? >> Okay, first that guy's first name in the truck. All right. So, the only problem that I have is none of the story kind of makes sense is what's going on. Okay. Cuz he's providing a totally different name. >> Right. I was just going to say I heard somebody I just went home. >> Okay. >> So, you're like having to bring you to the store and stuff. >> Yeah, cuz I almost my car. My car is down. >> So, I got to get around. It's cold outside. >> Uber is having so driving me around. >> All right. You >> good? Okay. Just hang out with her for one sec. I'll be right back. Did you you heard that she gave a fake name obviously because then the added up. So he's got her real name. Um I'm going to talk with staff and see if there's like any money or anything like that's [music] associated with this one female that >> like a you thinking? >> Yeah. I don't know. I mean I don't even know what it'll be other than like a fraud type deal right now is like an I think obstructing her knee or obstructing what um for him I don't have. >> Yeah. She was in here saying she was that's the person that actually has an account. But she's like 89. >> Mhm. >> She know. She just said it was she told me it was a fake name. She just made it up. >> No. I see her face. the same address that she does. >> So, this guy said that people like that do these things can get the account holders information online and they come into the store to try to open a go >> in their name and finance a phone and they'll have an $1,100 phone that's financed. So, basically, they just come in to get the phone to sell the phone. After talking to the man in the car outside, they found out that she'd given a fake name. The cops had a hunch she'd been trying to buy a phone under a fake identity. And as things turned out, she'd also bought a phone earlier that day at an Apple store. >> What was your first name? >> What is it? >> Camela. Okay, you're under arrest. Go and pop it for me. >> I'm under arrest for >> attempted theft over. >> And line about your name. Put your phone up here. >> You're taking it first off. >> [snorts] >> Pipe your hand behind your back. >> So, my assumption is that there was more stuff down up north. Okay. >> Yeah. Where are the other receipts are out of? So, if that's the case, I'm sure that they're going to have cases on you as well. >> If there's other accounts and stuff that you >> Okay. >> Is this your phone, too? Okay. >> $300. $400. >> And you can't explain to me what you're doing and how you're doing it. So, I'm just going to assume like worst case scenario, right? [snorts] The phone that you said is yours. This one, this 15, and this 10 that was in your back pocket you said is yours, which was purchased today at an Apple over in Chicago, right? So, you see like how none of this makes sense. It makes sense, but we're not getting the full story, right? >> She had now gone silent, and she might have finally realized that the lies weren't helping her case. Every word the woman said fell apart under questioning, and for the very first time, it seemed like the woman was out of excuses. >> What's your relationship with him? >> My friend. >> No, for real. You can't stand it. Yeah. >> You guys live together? >> No. >> All right. Your friend you don't know the last name of? >> No. No. >> Man, you're a bad liar. Basically, what we're going to do is we where we're at, I think you have committed identity theft, theft, fraud, possibly forgery, and then whatever happened here today. They charged the woman with forgery, possessing a fraudulent ID, obstructing identification, and attempted felony theft. On the 14th of August 2024 in Florida, the cops were called to a Walmart after an employee reported someone skip scanning at the selfch checkckout. What made it worse though was that her kids were there to witness the whole thing. >> Have a seat. >> That could pay you for the stuff because I didn't understand how to work it. I know >> I just was like putting it through. >> Have a seat. We'll go through it all and once we figure out what ain't been paid for, then we'll do it. >> Of course. Where's she from? >> Bahamas. Of course. You have any idea on you at all for anything? >> I just want this. That's all. Okay. What went through? Because the lady she me and then I don't know because I know I put everything on the thing to scan. Can I just I could pay what you want to understand. >> You have the video what she was doing. >> That's what I'm going to go get you later. >> Okay. >> Because we start these two things here. You have her ID or something. Wait for that. I'm not even sure what that card is. >> Neither do I, but it's something. >> Once the cops arrived, store security showed them video evidence from their surveillance cameras. The footage showed the woman deliberately not scanning multiple items and then putting them in her bag. >> Scand it in. >> No, I want them. Okay, let's find out. One. >> Two. What's the third? >> There's two that was a pond. So, the shirt in the pond. >> So, there's one that's blue, there's one that's gray, and then there's one that's white. You sc with the gray with the gray bottom. And then the gray. That's a gray pond. That's a gray pond for me. >> That's the one we paused, too. >> Where did these Takis just come from? Who threw those there? My name wasn't mine >> to choose or let it was not mine. >> Get the kids or something. I don't know. >> Somebody's messing with this a toy. Yeah. >> Even as the officer watched the woman committing crime clear as day on CCTV, she still maintained she'd done nothing wrong and told the officer that she'd scanned every item. >> Go beyond that. You had an opportunity to pay it when you're at the register scanning it from pay for everything. I I say, but it keep popping up. I don't know. This is not why >> I miss my st >> right there again. >> Three hangers there right there. Three. There's three hangers, but it's like two outfits on one hanger. That's what I'm trying to say. >> There's three outfits there. >> No, they like doubles. They like double hangers. Like they are outfit and a part on one hand. >> Put three items together and always scan two. >> No, I I scan the part and they go together, right? >> Wonder. Look like she scanning the same thing twice. >> No, they're different. They're different stuff. That one is different, but there still there's still four pieces in there. >> She was obviously trying to play dumb, trying to convince the officers that it was all just a misunderstanding. If she'd only skipped a few things, that might have been believable, but not when things added up to over $200. >> Misunderstanding is one maybe two items, not 23. No, >> not $211 worth. That's not a misunderstanding. That is called theft. >> No. No. Well, see what happened is when I hold it up, I just scan it like I see the tag. I just understand it like that. >> One or two out of the woman was helping me, but I don't have a problem paying for it because I'm not that type of person. I I don't get no trouble. You all run my name. I don't get no trouble at all. >> That's That's what everybody says when they get caught stealing. >> No, you you run my name, right? You run the name. I I don't get no trouble first time for everything. >> It just was a mis It wasn't intentional. >> Misunderstanding is one or two items, not 23 >> officer machine like it's I just I got two small kids. officer, please just let me just pay for it, please. >> You had that opportunity when you were doing the selfch checkout. That was your opportunity to scan and pay for the item. >> I I told I gone through it. I didn't mean to do what would happen. >> The suspect, who had flown in from the Bahamas to vacation in Florida, was urging the cops to let her go because she was the mother of two kids. Perhaps she should have thought about that before stealing in front of the same two kids. Clearly, she was not setting a very good example. >> When are you leaving? I'm leaving um on Friday. It's just a real estate office. So, just please. I have two small kids, please. I'm not from over here. >> Just because you're not from here doesn't mean that you can steal. >> No, I'm not stealing off steal. >> No, >> you didn't scan those items. >> No, probably like where I was rushing because my cousin keep calling. See, I was on the phone. My cousin keep calling. I was trying to scan everything like it wasn't it wasn't intentional. Officer, please can I just pay for the missed items, please? >> You have that opportunity. Beyond that, >> officer, it wasn't it wasn't it was just a misunderstanding. I didn't >> It's not a misunderstanding. >> Officer, please. I have two small kids. Please. >> You should have thought about that. >> Officer, like it wasn't intentional. >> Yes, it is very intentional. Watching. It was very intentional. >> I was on the phone. My cousin keeps asking where was where was. I had cash and some of the stuff probably just get messed. Can I just pay for it? >> Stand up. Go ahead. Stand up. Don't make me yank you up. Stand up. officer, like I say, I'm not a problem person. >> So, they don't want that. They want to proceed charges, press charges. So, you're going to go to jail. You could be released today, but your family members have to go to the jail and get you out. Okay. >> Please don't press charges on me, please. >> Oh, where to go just yet. >> Can I get my ID before I leave? >> I have your ID. Stand still. >> Please guys, please just give me kiss and press charges. Please, I will pay for it. I'm very sorry. I have to pay. >> Please, please, guys. Mom, >> I already told you that we cannot go back once you're here. Your pass point of sales. We cannot I didn't mean to. >> It was way too late for the woman and pleading with the cops was not going to get her anywhere. The evidence here was undeniable. Meanwhile, the entire time they were questioning her, her cousin and another family member had been waiting outside. >> So Walmart because it's so much like $250, they want to press charges for death. So if they want to press charges, we have to arrest her. Okay? Because she doesn't live within our county. She lives far away. So for example, if she lived in Orlando, she still would still have to go to jail. In our policy, we have to take her to jail. So she could be released. You just got to go to the jail and get her out. Okay. Yes. >> So, yeah. >> It's about 45 minutes. I can give you the address. >> Where where you're staying at? You're staying in Orlando? >> Yeah. Okay. >> It's from last night. >> From last night. >> Yeah. >> My god. >> So, I don't Y'all from the Bahamas? >> Yeah. >> So, I don't know how it is in the Bahamas. When you go to jail, you had to pay to get them out. That's how it is here. >> You have to pay. >> Yeah. If she doesn't pay, then she has to stay to jail until she until tomorrow [snorts] when she sees the judge. You have to wait before a judge. >> Yeah. >> So, how much you have to pay? >> $500. That's to get her out of jail. >> To get her to pay that jail money. That's like a lot of us. She would say this trip. I don't understand why. >> As things turned out, from what the cousin said, they'd only arrived in Florida the day before. Sadly, they'd only been in the country just 24 hours, and she'd already been arrested. Hey, I guess that's one way to ruin your vacation. You're going to be going to jail for retail petty theft. You will have a $500 bond, which means after you're booked in, you have the opportunity to bond out $500. You can either pay $500 cash or you can get with the bondsman. And they do typically do two um >> 10%. >> Um no, >> so it' be nothing less than $100 with the bondsman. Could be more, could be less. >> So what about this? Um your family is here to give the items you pay there. One of my items I didn't get because I like cash. >> That's the stuff you paid for. >> The stuff that you paid for. >> No, something didn't get cash on. I paid for everything. >> You paid for everything on that receipt. >> You want a retire? You want to give it to the your family? The items you paid? >> I pay in part so I can't return it, >> right? >> You can. >> Just let me know. You want to give it to your family or return? >> I'm not this type of person. I live in the Bahamas. From what I saw, you are a thief. I just watched you steal themselves. >> So, the items that you paid for this receipt right here, which is the items behind you, do you want to leave it with whoever you came with those items or you want us to return it to the card that this was purchased on? >> Those are your items. >> I will I will pay for this though because I want you to be on that items. >> Yes, I understand what you're saying. >> Where do you want those to go? You want them? So they go to your family members. >> Yeah, we're going there now. >> Yep. So you could go there or drop things off. We're It's about 45 minutes to an hour drive. >> They arrested the woman and she was charged with retail theft. They booked the woman on a $500 bond. In the state of Florida, retail theft of over $100 can get you a year in prison and a fine of up to $1,000. On July the 20th, 2024 in Indian River, Florida, the sheriff's office was called out to a disturbance between a mother and her daughter. As the cops tried to interview the elderly woman, things quickly escalated because the daughter just couldn't stay quiet. >> Ma'am, that's not how this works. I'm about to put you in handcuffs. Go stand over there. >> Because I'm investigating a crime right now and you right. Yes. >> What's the crime? >> I'm working on that. So, you want to keep getting involved or you want to stay over there? No [ __ ] So stay right there and let me figure this out. >> Now I'm calling the cop on you. This is my property. >> I don't care. Do what you have to do. If you call 911, if you call Listen to me. If you call 911 right now, >> how embarrassing this is. >> If you call 911 right now, ma'am, if you call 911 right now, >> I'm going to put you in handcuffs. So go ahead. >> Call 911. >> Go ahead. Call 911. >> I'm calling another cop. >> Call 911. I'm already here. Call 911. >> Let me go get my hand. >> Go call 911. Hilariously, the daughter told the police officer that she was going to call 911 on him. I mean, seriously, what did she think they were going to do? Arrest the guy for just doing his job? >> Please. >> No. >> Yes. Just can you please walk over there? I have tenants. >> No. >> Why are you being so rude? >> I'm not I'm trying to You call me to go over there. >> Can you please walk to that? >> This is my home that this woman does not live in. >> Step over there, please. Can Can you and him step over there? >> No. >> Why? >> It's not how that works. >> This is my property. This isn't hers. I don't want her on here. Okay. That's why you're here. >> Okay. Maybe you can step over there. >> Okay. But her her me. >> You. >> Okay. I'm going inside and she better be gone. >> Okay. Go ahead. >> I would like to leave, but >> getting to our house. >> Fantastic. It's hard to understand why, but often these criminals try to warn the cops that they've taken pictures of them doing their jobs. It really makes no sense because of course the cops have everything on body cam. Fighting with her mother and screaming at the officers wasn't the only dumb thing she'd done that day. >> You know what? >> I think I'll just >> ma'am, you're not free to leave. Ma'am, you're not free to leave. >> She doesn't have a valid license. You don't want to talk to me. I don't want to talk to you. >> Get out of the car. >> No. >> Get out of the car. >> Get out of the car. >> Get out of the car. Put your hands behind your back now. Put your hands behind your back now. >> One of you and one of you. >> Now you're going to step it up for the fight. >> Put your hands You're going to get tased. You're going to get tased. You're going to get tased. You understand me? You're going to get tased. Put your hands behind your back right now. Put your hands behind your back. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your back. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> I can't. I can't. >> Put your hands behind your back here to get tased. Put your hands behind your back. >> Put your hands behind your back. See, you have no >> You have no right. >> Her husband tried to intervene in the situation, somehow thinking that he could tell the cop what to do. Where they got their audacity was anyone's guess, but the woman made it clear to the officer that she was not going to make things easy. So, the officer called for backup. >> GET HIM OFF THE PROPERTY NOW. >> ALL I ASK YOU TO DO IS GET OFF THE PROPERTY. >> GET OFF THE PROPERTY. MY HUSBAND. >> Come here. I JUST WANT TO SAY YOU SEE YOU REAL QUICK. >> I just got to tell you what happened. Okay. >> What a man. There was a woman on the ground. What a man. >> I know. That was the most >> appalling thing >> in my life. Remember what happened. Okay. >> Thank you. Hi. >> Yes. >> Why? I can't believe this is going on. >> Why? What is the charge? >> Step up. >> Do you know what the charges? >> I don't. Step up. >> Yeah. I have um She punched me four times in the face. So, I didn't even get to cuz I didn't think anybody was going to go to jail. >> So, she punched me. I called. >> So, I want her in jail, too. >> According to the daughter, her mother had punched her in the face four times. The officer then spoke to the mother to get her side of the story. Thankfully, she was a bit more calm than her daughter. And according to her, all the chaos kicked off when she had lost her dog. >> I need to know >> what exactly had happened. Okay. >> What the from the very beginning >> from today? Yes. >> Um, she slept in my house last night. >> Okay. And while I was sleeping, she got a hold of my phone >> and she asked me, "Do you want to pay? You should have play." I said, "I want that on my phone. I'm 65. I don't understand all of that." >> Okay. >> Well, she did it anyway. >> I know it's me. today. I got my social security check today and um I was checking my account and she I stupidly had it on >> and she said, "Mom, will you work back and get $40 off?" And I says, "What do you need for?" She says, "I can really use my cigarettes." >> So, where happened to the point of >> Okay. >> where you said she struck you. She struck me first and it's in front of TD Bank. And if you want to play the >> When did that happen? >> Less than an hour ago. >> Okay. >> From the mother's account, it sounded like the daughter was scamming her own mother. She was making unauthorized bank transactions and she was physically assaulting her. >> Anyway, I found out she in a matter of minutes >> took my card and started shopping online. and I didn't know. >> Okay. >> And then she said, "Oh, no, mom. I need another $20 because we don't really have any food in the house." She said, "It was an accident, Mom. It was an accident. I didn't want to press charges or anything." So, I went into the car to calm down cuz the lady was fixing my car. She left her purse in the car. >> Do you need EMS? >> No. I looked in the purse. >> Did she see if she does? >> I looked. >> She's the one who called for EMS. >> I looked in the purse. My old ID is in her wallet. I was I was just so upset. I wanted to leave. She opened the car and she punched me. >> Where'd she punch you at? >> Right here. But I managed to get away. Okay. I started going home. She called me up. Please, Mom, pick me up. It's this hot sun. Please, please, please. >> As we're going down the road, I'm driving her home. >> Hey. Uh, I think it's gonna be her. >> Yeah, >> she she's she's she she took she she kept on hitting me and like nothing major, but she put the car in park three times while we're driving. And she then she says I said, "You just hit a 65year-old woman." She goes, "No." Then she starts hitting herself. "You hit me." Clearly, this wasn't the first fight between these two when someone called the police. The mother told the officer that she'd called the cops previously to get her daughter off the property for trespassing. He then spoke with the daughter to get her side of the story. >> Hi. >> How you doing, ma'am? >> Yes. Hi. >> All right. We're have a little talk. >> Sure. >> Yeah. I'm a little pissed. >> I understand. A little pissed. >> I guess will you calm down to talk to me? I'm going to give you a couple more minutes. >> Yeah. What? I'm sorry. >> You need a couple more minutes. You want to talk now? >> Talk about what? No. Um, I want these cuffs off me. >> We We'll get to that. Okay. So, um, you have the right to remain silent. Do you understand that? [music] >> No. That means you're arresting me for >> No, it does not. No, it does not. No, it does not. I have to read you Miranda warnings. Okay. It's it's case law. I have three warnings. I ask any questions that could be in arrest. >> No, it's not. You're detained clearly. >> I don't know. Yeah, I'm I was the one hit four times. I wasn't going to mention it to you because I don't want my mother in here. >> I got you. I got you. Okay. And now I'm now I want it and if she's not in a cop car and I have to go too, I'm going to be low. >> Okay. >> As you might have expected, the stories didn't match. They each insisted that the other started the fight, turning the whole ordeal into more of a squabble between kids than an argument between full grown adults. Meanwhile, she kept rambling on about the $40 she dropped during the arrest. >> So, what happened at the TV bank? >> Oh my god. Okay, so um since this morning, my mom lost her debit card. Okay. >> She lost her debit card. >> Lost it physically. We trade purses all the time. That's why I want all my belongings out of that vehicle. And my $40 is missing, which I have a feeling you gave it to her. >> I had to give nothing to nobody. >> And it before she picked it up. So we found her card. It was in my purse cuz we [music] swap purses. >> Okay. >> So I find it in the morning. And so when I hadn't found it, I wanted to set up her card to Google Pay. Okay. >> Because she knew the card number off the top of her head. Okay. >> So I went to set it to Google Pay. Right. Will we find the car? So, we go, "Okay, let's go to the ATM. We go to the ATM. Everything's fine." Well, in between, I'm playing around on my phone and she's just yelling at me, "Oh, pay attention to the road." Which she's right. And so, I I did. Well, I went on my team room and I clicked yes, pay Google pay, which my card is the first card on my phone, not her card, but because I had just set it up. >> You know what I'm saying? So, it didn't even go through. It wanted to authorize. So, that's what led us to the TD Bank to go, "Hey, we have to take this." At any point did she strike you or you strike her? >> No. No. I >> It's okay. Look, it's okay if you guys got into an argument and it was combative like both together. >> No. Nope. I might have like taken my hand to her face cuz I do that a lot. I go, "You're going to go to jail." Like I [music] I do like one of these. >> No. Like to the side. Like I held her like >> like you might be going crazy. I got >> She took off and rode around and rode around. She's been hanging out with skeptical people and I know she was with [music] them and then she finally found me. >> All right. Just put on me real quick. >> No, you can't. >> I got you. I got you. Just put your feet in, please. >> They charged the woman with resisting without violence. It's a misdemeanor and can carry a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. On December 25th, 2023, the cops were called to a hotel after getting a call from a woman who said she'd been scammed. It was hardly the Christmas day the cops were hoping for. But unfortunately, just because it's Christmas, crime doesn't take a break. >> I've seen them before at this gas station because I usually stop there to get gas because I have these this couple. Usually they have a baby and they're in the car. This car say I see them walking. So I come up and they're like, "Hey, how you doing?" Cuz I always say the baby's cute or whatever. Something like that. They're known. Hey, how are you? No Christmas. No Christmas. The girl goes, "Excuse me? Do you have cash on the way? I'm so sorry about it." I say cash out. I do have cash app, but it's for my kids. I don't really know how to use it, you know. >> The woman said she'd been scammed by a couple and they'd offered her $100 for a trade with the promise they'd send the money through Cash App. But instead, they took off and made off with her cash and her phone. >> I said, you know, finally, long story short, yeah, I could do it, but all I have is 100. She had 100. So, I said, I could do, but all I have is 100. The boyfriend says, I can help you do it. You know, he takes my phone, he does 100. She freaking takes my phone. the $100, never gave it to me, took the hundred, put it in his account, I guess, or whatever, and starts running. So, they ran through the grass like through the dumpster and stuff. They thought I wasn't going to get through there. It was very hard to, but I did it. So, I get through the dumpster. I guess they try to cut through. They thought I wasn't going to like do it. So, I cut through very straight area and she goes, "What the I said, give me my phone." What the Give me my phone. I don't even $100. I want my phone. It's a S23. So she said, "You ain't going to." So I said, "At least get my phone." She goes, "You phone?" Boom. There. >> The couple had been staying at the hotel next to the gas station where they were often seen loitering. According to the victim, they were already notorious in the neighborhood. And it was just one more red flag in an already suspicious situation. >> Oh, we were we were fighting. I was >> They might be staying here. >> She said they are staying here. >> They are staying here. Okay. >> But this is the thing. I live in the area so I know she's going to go to jail for this probably and I don't want the problem. So is there could be like a a order protection too something done like that like if she's >> So the protection order would be you going down to the courthouse and doing that. >> Okay. >> Um if she struck you, you have the right to press charges. >> I want to press charges. I want to press charges. I want her to go to jail today Christmas for doing what she did. I didn't want the $100. I want her to go to jail for doing what she did. She took 100 in cash. >> Yes. They never gave me the cash. >> Oh, they just transferred it from your account to >> From my account [clears throat] to them. >> The woman told the officer that after speaking out against the couple, she was afraid she'd get shot, especially since she had kids to think about. After hearing the woman out, the cop went back inside to talk to an employee. And right at that moment, one of the suspects walked in. I guess it's whatever she wants. >> Oh, that's her. some kind of ready to start attacking attack you >> didn't think call us when people attack each other >> I mean >> sorry I mean >> yeah go it's whatever whatever's culturally appropriate right now but what I'm getting at is >> obviously she did and that's a problem because she's saying there was an old the police. >> Yeah. >> Oh. >> The moment she found out the woman had called police, the woman's face noticeably dropped. Though the woman tried to come up with a story where she was the victim, the officer let the woman know that they'd already seen the video footage. After she was escorted outside, she was still trying to play the victim. >> Would you like to explain what happened or? >> Um, I mean, yeah, that's going to help me and my family because I just try to celebrate Christmas. and then got caught up in a jail. >> Okay. >> So, I got in the car with her so she could take me to the store and go get I was just I wasn't going to ride but I was like just I don't even know how >> where did you guys make contact at? Like where did you guys meet up at or >> right over there by the um side of the building over there. So I came down my my room to Titans. So I came down the stairs sitting down. She was standing there. They was talking and I was like, "Um, I'm about to go to the store." She said, "Okay, I'm about to go there, too." So, I went there. We ride in the car. She talking about a million things. And then we get there, she just changed the conversation. She like, "Oh, don't disrespect me." And at first, I'm like, you know, cuz she's older than me. I'm like, "Okay, whatever." She felt disrespected about, you know, okay, cool. And then that's when um she just kept going on and on and on about it. So, I'm like, "Um, you know, hold on." And then she tried to show out, I guess, my boyfriend. So when I said, "Hold on." She go and jump out the car and try to attack me. >> Why would the woman suddenly attack a stranger for no reason at all? If she was going to lie to police, then she could at least get her story straight. This woman's defense was about as bad as their scam. >> My boyfriend, he's blocking like, "Hey, calm down or whatever." And I'm just backing up and I'm just like, you know, looking at her and you know, that's what was going on there. And I was just like calling her crazy, whatever. Everybody was seeing that. I just walked off, walked back here, but then she followed me. When I was walking off, she followed me through the Waffle House and she drove her car through the Waffle House thing and she got out and started chasing me again. So, I just kept pushing her, pushing her, pushing her and just pushing her to the ground. But I wasn't seriously fighting her. I'm just pushing her, pushing her, pushing her, pushing her. That's all. I was not playing. >> Did you ask her for money or anything like that? >> No, I got my own money. >> Yes. You guys So, you never asked her for money? >> I got my own money. Food stamps on 700. Balance just updated yesterday. I don't need nobody to let me. >> So you weren't trying to put money on a card or anything like that? >> I don't know what she >> Did you ever take her phone? >> Um, okay. So when we were in the when we was at W House, both our phones fell. My phone, if you look at her phone, it's kind of the same when it comes off. So I thought it was my phone and I both our phones on the ground. I thought it was my phone. Then my brother was like, "No, that's her phone." She claimed she didn't need anyone's help financially, but she bragged about her food stamps, saying they'd just been topped up the day before, funded, of course, by taxpayer dollars. And the way she overexlained things, only made her look more guilty. Meanwhile, the cops managed to track down the second suspect. >> Basically, we went to the store, get some juice, then >> Well, I'm going to need a lot more than that. There's obviously a lot more than that. >> I mean, we got out the car. We love the gas station. That's when she carried on the car. >> So, what exactly happened at the gas station? >> Arguing. >> Arguing over what? >> Something. >> Did you guys ask her for money? >> No. >> So, why would there be a cash app transaction with your picture on it? When the suspect realized that the cop had more information than he was letting on, he started backtracking. And after more investigation, the cops determined the couple had hitched a ride with the victim, then proposed the cash app deal and took off with the money. >> Never took a phone. >> No. >> Never tried making a transaction doing a hundred for 100 on a card. I >> mean, she sent me $100 on cash out. That was it. >> Okay. >> So, why did you just lie to me then? No, I What you mean? Like she said I asked her for some money. I didn't ask her for some money. She I had she loaned $100 from me like two weeks ago and she just getting back in town. I guess I >> She paid whatever she had over. >> So she was paying you what she I won't sit up there and lie to you. >> I won't lie to you at all. >> He claimed he wouldn't lie to the cop, but guess what? It sounded like the guy was lying. It quickly became crystal clear that almost everything that came out of their mouths was a lie. >> All right, put your hands back for me. >> What are we going to jail for? >> Well, I'll explain that in a second. Okay. >> So, theft, >> theft, >> fraud, >> fraud, >> and battery. >> Okay. >> And battery. >> Yes. >> Theft, fraud, and battery. Wait, theft as in stole? >> Yes. >> Stole what? >> Her phone. >> Her phone. That's my fault. >> Fraud for the transaction. >> Fraud what transaction? >> Fraud for what transaction? >> Cash out transaction. >> What cash out transaction? >> They arrested the couple and both were charged with battery theft and fraud. Scammers can lie and cheat and put on their most innocent act, but when the handcuffs come out, things always fall apart. In the end, there's nothing more satisfying than seeing these manipulative scammers get humbled.
