Where you going? >> Where you going? >> I'm sure they'd be real proud of you. >> Sit down. Sit down. >> You stand up like that again, you're tast. >> Get the off. Everybody turn off their cameras. >> Some careers end with retirement parties. Others end in handcuffs and a walk of shame. Most of the time, law enforcement officers seem untouchable. However, as we're about to see, they're all just one dumb decision away from ruining their careers in seconds. He indicated at me in a threatening motion with the finger guns. That's the only reason I did it. It wasn't unprovoked. It wasn't I didn't I didn't just grab it and point it at him. I didn't flash a gun at him just for the sake of flashing a gun at him. He pointed finger guns at me after he made multiple attempts towards my car. >> From time to time, all drivers get frustrated. But what happens when an off-duty law enforcement officer starts road raging? On December 2nd, 2024, a decorated police sergeant let her emotions get the best of her, and it didn't end well. Everything started when an anonymous driver reported that a woman driving an SUV tried to push him off the road. >> One over at Bucks Park just east. [Music] [Applause] [Music] I got through. >> Yep. I don't see anybody else in. >> I got with your left hand. Open up the door. >> I can see through. Do it now. >> Keep your hands up and step out of vehicle. doing now. >> Turn around. >> With your left hand, pick up the back of your shirt. >> This approach might seem a little over the top for a simple road rage incident, but there was nothing simple about this case. According to the witness statement, the driver of the SUV pulled a gun out and pointed it at him. And that's why these officers proceeded with extreme caution. >> Go ahead and spin around 360 for me. [Music] With your hands up slowly, walkers, walk backwards for the sound of my voice. Yep. Keep coming. Keep coming. Keep coming. Keep coming. Keep coming. Keep coming. Keep coming. You're doing good. Keep coming. >> Okay, stop right there. >> Get down on your knees. Do not move. Do you understand? [Applause] [Music] All right, I'm going to fix you down real quick. >> At this point, the officers have no idea that the female driver they just arrested is one of their own. She was quickly identified as Melinda Mccclemen Lean, an officer serving with the Edmonds Police Department. Is this your vehicle, ma'am? >> Okay. I'm just going to read you something real quick and then I'm gonna chat. Okay. Understood. [Music] >> All right. So, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him present with you while being questioned. If you afford to hire a lawyer, one would be appointed represent you before questioning if you wish. You can decide at any time to exercise these rights and answer any question making any statements. Do you understand your rights, J? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. Um, what's going on today? Sounds like there was some issues back there at the traffic light. >> Yep. >> Okay. What's going on? >> So, driving southbound on I5. >> Okay. >> Um I went to go merge to get off of 196. Um had my turn signal on for ever. Um that dude kept trying to get closer and closer. It didn't want to let me in. Um I was about to miss the exit on 196. Um, I squeezed in between him and the other vehicle, put up my hand, continued driving off of the exit. >> Obviously, she blamed everything on the other driver. At no point did she say that she was the one who nearly drove him into the median and nearly caused an accident. Let's hear if she even mentions pulling the gun out. >> He started roads raging at me, got up on my bumper, flashed his lights at me the entire time we were coming off of the exit at 196. Um, got up to Uh the next as we were coming up to the next stoplight, he swerved over into the left lane really quickly um off of my driver's side um got up next to me and then when he got towards the front of my car, he jerked his wheel trying to act like he was like jked me like he was going to come get into my lane. >> Um I slammed on my brakes. He did it again and then when we ended up next to each other at the stoplight, he put up his hands in a like a finger gun motion at me. >> Um, I picked up mine, my pistol. It's in the glove compartment now. Um, picked up my pistol and showed it to him as well. >> Okay. >> And then put it back down. He waved at me >> and then that was it. >> Is it So, where is it now? >> It's in the glove compartment. One of the officers recognized the suspect and decided to free her from the handcuffs, at least temporarily. Melinda immediately looked smug and offered her ID. Most likely, she figured that was it and that she'd get out clean as a whistle because she was a cop. >> Hi, Mayor. >> Hey, my >> Oh, okay. Gotcha. >> Melinda. Okay, gotcha. >> Yeah. reserve >> uh National Guard now. >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah. >> What unit? >> Uh I am with a unit down at JB. I'm going to tell you. >> Okay. I just >> Oh, nice. Congratulations. >> Thank you. >> Very strange Monday. >> Happy Monday. >> It's a really weird birthday. >> Uh is is Edward 41 coming here? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> How long you been one? >> Uh two and a half year. It'll be three years in March. Okay. >> Yeah. >> You liking it so far? >> Yeah, I do. >> Good. As the two female officers made small talk, their colleagues focused on the issue at hand. Depending on the circumstances, brandishing a weapon can be considered a felony. The question was, where do they go from here? >> Good news is he said it looked like a really little gun, so probably bad news is he explicitly said she pointed it at him. >> Okay. So, >> PC is all right. All right. We have custodial rest. >> Correct. You're booked your account. >> Let's do what we got to do. >> All righty. >> Uh you guys. [Applause] >> All right. So, Melinda, um we've done our thing. We've looked at the the whole totality of the circumstances, the whole bit. Um, at this point the PC's assault too >> for for what? >> For pointing the firearm. >> I didn't point it at him. >> He's saying >> I did not. >> I did not point it at him. >> Kind of the line that we have here is, well, you know as well as I do. Weapons apparently capable of producing bodily harm. Brandishing >> their soul too. >> Sergeant there. >> Realizing she was about to get arrested, Melinda tried her best to explain her side of the story once again. She knew she was about to go to jail and maybe even lose her job. Now that smug smile of hers was gone, replaced by fear and despair. >> I'm in the lane. He comes up. He swoops his car towards me. >> He swoops his car towards me again. >> We all know that vehicles can be used as deadly weapons. Okay. He gets up beside me. >> I finally look over at him. He points finger guns at me. >> Mhm. He points at me. >> I picked mine up with my left hand. I'm I'm right-handed. Picked it up. It's in its holster. I just held it up in its holster. Not even in any sort of configuration. I did not point it at him. Just and then put it back down. I never pointed it at him. I never held it in a configuration that it could be pointed at him in any way whatsoever. The two drivers here obviously have conflicting stories. However, they both say Melinda actually showed her gun to the other driver, and that's clearly against the law. And whatever she said next wouldn't make a difference. >> I'm backing away from the car in front of me to give them more space. He's on my bumper, flashing his lights at me, road raging me the whole time, coming up on my bumper. I I'm using my turn signals. I get over into this center left lane. He swerves around onto the left side of me. He road rages me all the way up the road. He swoops his car in towards me multiple times. I don't react to any of that other than to make sure that I hit my brakes so that he he's not behind me anymore. I'm not breaking him, but I hit my brakes to make sure that he didn't hit the front end of my car. And then like I was on the phone with my mom like I was I was talking to my mom. He gets up next to me. He points at me like he's like he's going to shoot me. It's doubtful Melinda got scared for her life when the other driver pointed finger guns at her. She was just feeling high and mighty and decided to shut the man up by brandishing her own weapon, which was definitely deadlier than fingers. All right. I've heard everything you you've had to say. My hands are tied. All right. Sorry. I got to do this. Okay. You throw them back for me? >> Yeah. Um, >> please. >> Yes. Yeah. Yeah. >> Thank you. >> This little stunt horribly backfired and she was arrested and charged with seconddegree assault. She was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of her trial. On November 19th, 2021 in Sunrise, Florida, police responded to a battery incident. Someone had assaulted an elderly man in front of a store. From the very start, it was a very intense situation. But as things unfolded, the real bad guy turned out to be someone no one expected. I'm not going nowhere. My dad ass. Don't touch me. Don't touch me. >> What happened? >> You need to go upstairs. >> I have one over here. >> I don't care. You talking over here for nothing. There's nothing to talk about. >> There is nothing to talk about. I have sex. >> Nothing to talk about. >> You talk to me. He can't hear her speak. He can't tell you. >> What the is your problem? My problem is my dad. Chill out. Get out of here. Look at my face. >> The woman was agitated because her father had been assaulted for no apparent reason. Therefore, the officers knew they were looking for someone aggressive, violent, and most likely unpredictable. After all, they'd struck an elderly deaf person. >> Well, my name, like I said, my name is Jerry Bwell, and thank you for being sick. You know what you doing? So he goes and hits her, >> you know, he he goes like this, right? He papa, he papa. I call him papa. He him, right? Papa that came out the store. He come to bring some stuff right there. Still right there. Right. He just go like this. Next thing you know, the guy said, "You call me a punk and swung on him >> and swung on him." >> On him. >> Okay. >> Then he would do this. You see the video? with him. The that that is death. >> Yes. >> You talk sign language. >> No emergency. Like this is pissing me off. >> We're trying to get We're trying to get rescue. I don't know why. >> We're trying to get this. >> Oh, trust me. Way more. Trust me. I understand. I know. >> I I trust you. >> I will be I'll be the same way pissed you are right now. Trust me. I know. It's not always easy to get information from witnesses, but apparently the suspect was a young man. After he struck the elderly victim, the victim fell and then the suspect punched him several more times. Luckily, it didn't take long before the officers found a man that matched the suspect's description. >> You will get tased. Get on the ground. >> Get on the ground. >> Get on the ground. I'm going to tase you. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. >> Okay. >> Y'all want me to get up now? >> Yeah. >> All right. What's wrong with your leg? >> Look at my right leg. >> He went all the way over there earlier and dropped this thing. >> Y'all can't tell what I dropped. So, whatever y'all pick up, y'all can't put on me. So, y'all have fun pat down. So, y'all ain't going to find >> Just real quick, I'm going to ask you, you have any weapons on you? >> I told you I don't have any. >> All right. The man was later identified as 25-year-old Jean Smillion from Sunrise, Florida. After some verbal and physical resistance, the man eventually started cooperating. However, it was a little too late because he'd already managed to agitate some of the officers. >> Hang in there, bro. >> My hands got mad. You had to >> Hey, bro. I can say what I wanted as long as I'm not agitated, man. What's the >> What? Have y'all trying to figure me out? Why y'all got me a handcuff? Am I being detained or being arrested detained right now? >> I'm being detained pending an investigation. Hey, listen. Let me ask you a question real quick. Okay. Hold up. >> I don't know nothing. >> That's not what I'm asking you. I'm asking for medical attention. Do you need fire rescue? >> Okay. They're here. But I just want to say >> Wait, wait, wait, wait. We can't. >> We don't know about you. Okay. >> Don't ask nicely like you can't hear me. >> I'm doing something right now. >> Right now. What you doing? I'm in pain. >> I can't hear you. >> Hey, miss. Can you stop twisting a handcuff on my wrist? >> She's twisting a handcuff on my wrist, bro. >> You asked for fire rescue. Which one do you want me to do? >> I can't do them both at the same time. >> No, I can't. >> While the suspect eventually started cooperating, the tensions here just wouldn't simmer down. And when things are tense like this, someone's bound to step over the line and do something bad. >> I didn't say nothing to you. >> I'm not talking to you. >> You're looking at me? >> I can look at you and be talking to her, right? >> Don't even entertain me. >> Okay. It's called spoken to one. >> All right. Y'all ain't even my rights. Y'all ain't none of that. >> We didn't ask you any questions yet. >> Okay. So, y'all got me a handcuff, mother. >> It's called detain pending. >> What detain me for? >> You're not stronger than me, miss. I'm letting you know that. >> All right, let's go. Let's take a seat. >> Watch your head getting into the car. >> Ah, miss. Can you stop pulling the cuffs? Just get in the car and get in the car. >> Get in the car. Get in the car. >> In the cup. >> Once you get in the car, she'll let go. >> So watch. >> So just get in the car. >> All right. Just get in the car. >> Can y'all just tell her to stop? >> Hey, get in the car. >> Get in the car. >> Get in the car. >> Just get in the car. Right. I'm getting your feet in. >> Did you catch what just happened? That was the voice of Sunrise Police Sergeant Christopher Douglas. Police. For some reason, the sergeant had had enough and decided to teach the suspect, Mr. Smillion, a lesson in humility. Note that as he's doing so, he's holding a can of pepper spray in his hand. >> Hey. Hey, look at me. Look at me. Look at me. You want to play games with the wrong mother? You going to mess your Don't ever touch me again. >> Get the off. >> I just I don't understand that. >> You clear >> and I'll see you in about 5 minutes. >> All right. So, >> it happened very quickly, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a big deal. First, the sergeant threatened a handcuffed suspect while holding pepper spray in his hand. Then, he turned around and physically assaulted one of the female officers. It was caught in different angles on several body cams. >> Right. I'm getting in. >> Get your feet in. >> Hey. Hey. Hey. Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. You want to play games? You're playing with the wrong >> got to do, man. You going to mace me? Mace me. >> Look at me. You want to play games? You ever get disrespected with my move your soul from your body? >> Do what you got to do. >> Never touch me again. Sir, >> get the off. >> Do what you got to do. >> Get the off. >> Just Just let it be. touch me again. >> Get the off. I don't understand that. >> You clear >> and I'll see you in about 5 minutes. >> Well, we all have those days when we're just so strung out that we snap at people. But unfortunately for the sergeant, his bad day was caught on tape. However, he wasn't done breaking the law just yet. He then did something that could be considered tampering with evidence. Everybody turn off their cameras. >> Telling his officers to turn their cameras off is considered a really big no no for his conduct that day. 47year-old Christopher Police was charged with four crimes: battery and assault on a law enforcement officer, assaulting a civilian, and tampering with evidence. He pled not guilty to all four but resigned from his position. His case is still pending. Often in the line of duty, police officers face intense pressure and sadly they sometimes look for unhealthy ways to cope. In officer Zachary Smith's case, his coping mechanism was alcohol. On July 27th, 2023, when his colleagues stopped by to drop some paperwork off, they quickly realized he'd been driving under the influence. You tell me. I just got the call. >> Come here. Hey. Come here. Just >> come here. Come with me. It's not working. >> First day on the road. >> Listen to the people in jail. Leave me alone. Jill does her leave me alone. >> Listen to Hey, it's not worth it. Trust me. This is until So now you're going to come take my dog. >> Do you think I want to? >> No. No. Come on. >> Hey, he's just here because I told him. >> Come on in. You guys need to search warrant. No. Come on in. >> Do whatever you want. >> Zachary. >> No, it's bull. >> I don't want to be here any more than you want us here. >> At the time of the incident, Smith had been a 12-year veteran with the Indiana State Police. To the dismay of his fellow officers, he was clearly intoxicated, which put them in a challenging situation. It's never easy for officers to arrest one of their own. But due to Smith's condition, they really didn't have much choice. >> We're trying to get the dog. >> You're intoxicated right now. I know. I can see them. And you just drove somewhere. Hopefully not with your kids while you're drunk. >> Doesn't matter, dude. This explains why I'm getting the dog. >> Come on, Zach. Let's get Trust me. >> Come on, man. Let's get the dog. >> What am I being arrested for? What am I being arrested for? Who saw me driving and what I'm being arrested for? Do you see me driving? >> Yes, I did. >> No, I'm talking to this trooper right here who's arrested. I didn't see you driving. No, thank you. >> I have probable cause believe you've operated a vehicle while intoxicated. must now offer to you the opportunity to submit to a chemical test and inform you that your refusal to submit to a chemical test will result in a suspension of your driving privileges for one year. Do you have at least one previous conviction for operating while intoxicated? Your refusal to submit to a chemical test will result in suspension of your driving privileges for 2 years. You understand what I read to you? Yes, >> sir. >> All right. Will you now go down and take the test? >> No. >> Smith seemed pretty confident that what his partners were doing was not going to stick in court. According to Smith, he couldn't be arrested for DUI because there hadn't been a traffic stop. However, that might just be the alcohol talking. >> There was no traffic stop and no problem calls for a traffic stop. So, I have no clue how you get through a DUI stop when you don't have a traffic stop. >> I have not committed a crime. Have I committed a crime? >> Yes. >> How? >> Did you watch me? >> I watched you. >> Okay. Did you Did you watch me do a uh vehicle violation? Did you do a probable cause stop, traffic stop, and have probable cause that I was intoxicated? >> I'm not doing this with you. Stop. >> You're rolling in my house cuz I'm predisposed. No problem cause. They have no traffic stops. They have no field sobriety. No, no PPT. They say, "You know what? I'm going to put an Indiana State Trooper, one of their own. Upon inspecting the officer's vehicle, under the seat, they found open alcohol containers. It was as clear as day that he was under the influence. He was then taken to a local hospital to get a blood sample. However, using a legal loophole, Smith was hoping to wrigle out of this. didn't do anything wrong. >> I'm sure >> I'm actually >> I know you did. Wherever you have the >> I'm not taking a samples. >> Well, I don't think you have a choice at this point. No, you can't take it by force. >> Even in the hospital, Smith looked pretty confident. According to Officer Smith, there were recent rules in stated saying that medical staff cannot take his blood without his consent. But his former partners seemed to disagree. Not to mention, little by little, they were losing their patience with the drunken trooper. >> Sit down. Sit down. Sit down. Sit down. Sit down. >> I'm not going to have it. >> You're lying. >> Who are these guys then, Zack? >> You don't have a trap. You don't have bless. >> We both know and all of us know you will all fail in court. Do not stop me. I have enough going on right now and this place is trying to bury me. I'm trying to crawl myself out of it all for what? I didn't do anything wrong. I didn't do anything to embarrass the state police. Now they're making you embarrass state police. >> Hey, what we talked about earlier, man. You're making this worse on yourself. >> No, I'm not making anything worse. >> You are. I know my right. We have an order to draw and we're going to take >> You don't have a traffic stop. >> You cannot draw my blood by force today in court. >> Good. I refuse. Just like Mark Tal's boy did. He refused. Mark Tal's boy refused. You know where he's at now? He's back on government security. You can leave. I'm refusing. >> I'm not leaving. And you're going to get your blood. >> No, I'm not. No, I'm not. And if you take it out for us, there's going to be a problem. >> We'll hold you down if we have to. >> And it won't be a problem. That's fine. We'll hold you down. you need my blood to bury it. >> With that last statement, he practically admitted he was drunk. He also stated that he was going through a divorce and that he had a drinking problem. Despite everything, he was still accusing the cops of conspiring against him and even the nurses felt uncomfortable. >> Zach, let him do it. >> Let him do have to hold. If we have to, we'll hold you down. >> We are not doing it. Are you going to let him do it? >> Okay. Get a search. No, we have a service. >> For your blood, for your blood. >> Whatever arm you need. Which arm do you need? >> This is not a traffic stop. Zack, >> let them make their attempt. >> All right, they'll attempt. If you don't, we'll we'll do the round. >> Do not do anything to these girls. Zack. >> Hey, buddy. You're not the Zach that I know right now. Well, I'm pissed. You can be pissed, but I know what you're going to do >> right now. I know. >> We're going to take your blood. What we're going to do exactly. I'm not taking it. >> They have a warrant. >> Well, I think we should get Judge Brown the phone so I can talk to him. This is bull. >> Someone signed a warrant. >> You quit looking at me. So, we need a piece of >> At one point, Smith agreed to have his blood drawn, but then hesitated. The nurse hesitated as well and really didn't know what to do. Eventually, she decided to go in and try to take the man's blood. However, this inebriated officer did not make it easy. >> How did you prove How did you prove anything? You treat like a idiot. How did you get the room? How did you get the How did you get >> your leg down, Zach? I don't want to do this either. >> Well, I went to Okay. Okay. Stop. Got it. >> Stop resisting. >> I'm not resisting. >> You are. >> Okay. >> Megan, you can take my blood. >> Okay. This is your one shot, Zach. Your one shot. Let her do it. >> Just lay back and let her do it. >> Let her do it. Stay there. Stay right there. Either run right here. >> Lay back and let her do it now. >> You guys, >> no one said you did. Just let her do her job. >> I just got the turn on. That's all. >> Calm down. >> Calm down. Okay. >> Step away from me. >> I'm not doing anything. >> I'm going to stand right here. because I don't want >> We got our legal warrants already. >> It looks like the officer should have focused more on fighting his alcohol problem first. He was charged with operating while intoxicated and placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of his trial. If you're not careful, alcohol can mess your life up beyond repair. On the evening of the 1st of March 2025, Sarah Clayson, an offduty trooper from Washington State, made the mistake of her life when she drove her Kia under the influence. She was on her way to Domino's to get some pizza and got into an accident. She then called 911. >> 911 emergency. >> Hello, ma'am. Can you hear me now? >> Yeah. Can you hear me? >> Yes. Are you at Village Parkway and SR 240? >> Yes. >> Are you injured at all? >> No. >> Okay. And it said you're in IKEA. Is that right? >> Yes. >> Okay. Okay. Did you hit a a motorcycle? >> Yeah, we are. >> Okay. Do you see if the person's injured or breathing? >> All right. I think everybody's okay. Let Let me get out and check. Uh, no. There is definitely somebody injured. Possibly fatality. I'm going to go check. >> Yeah. Let me know if they're breathing. >> Yeah, we have no pulse on a I believe a pedestrian. >> Uh I I can. Yes, I'm a first responder. >> You are a first responder. >> Yes, I am. Uh >> if you want to start CPR, we can definitely get that going. Um Okay. I want to start uh CPR. >> Okay. >> The first officers on scene were state troopers. And once they found out the suspect was one of their own, they backed off and let the police handle things. Trooper Clayson tried to explain how she got into an accident. >> So, I went and picked up a Domino's Pizza. Okay. Uh >> I was turning left from here. I live right over there on Wild Canyon Way. >> Okay. >> I saw what I thought was a car with one headlight out. >> Okay. >> Uh right just past where the reflective sign is, that white one. >> Okay. Sure. And so I was already slowing in the turn lane and saw him there and I was like, I got enough time. Okay. >> I turned and as soon as I turned, just felt the boom. >> Okay. Okay. So, as you're turning, you you thought he was further away. >> No, he was definitely past that reflective side when I when I saw him and then like I say, I thought it was a car with a headlight out. Didn't realize it was a motorcycle. I didn't realize >> the rate of speed. Okay. No. Yeah. >> So, you think he was going pretty quick? >> Yes. Cuz from that reflective sign, it's kind of I turned I live here, so that's always my like general rule. If they're past that sign, then you got plenty of time if you're slowing to turn in. >> Gotcha. >> It was a little bit noticeable that she sounded strange as her speech was slightly slurred and most likely the officer would have noticed it, too. But even if he didn't, he was still required to ask her to go through some field sobriety tests. Her response, however, was pretty suspicious. >> All right. Um, you're probably aware we're just going to like run this like like normal. So, I'm just going to run you through some voluntary field so bright test if you're willing to. Okay. >> Yeah. I don't think I want to do any. >> Okay. All right. Uh, what about the um PBT? You willing to do a voluntary PBT? >> I don't want to do any test based on the >> Okay. Understood. Um, what about obviously you just gave me like a verbal statement. Are you willing to write um down a um a statement on paper? >> Yeah. All right. Let me go grab a statement form >> and I'll let you fill that out and then um I know you want to get out of here. So um we'll do that that way we just kind of lock everything in for for today. So >> sounds good. >> All right. Yeah, just give me a few minutes here. No worries. >> Trooper Clayson quickly wrote a statement up and it made the officer even more suspicious. He then asked her to explain the crash one more time. The most unnerving thing is how calm and collected she was after her recklessness led to the death of Joseé Sanchez, a 20-year-old motorcycle rider. >> I don't know if that this was ever clarified. You're in the turn lane. You're turning. >> Did was there any other traffic coming? >> Uh, so there was a car behind him. I thought it was a car with a headlight out. Uh, >> it was coming this way. Like you say, it was right at that white sign. So it's kind of my gauge on when I turn. Uh, but I was slowing and then saw there was a car there, turned and then just literally out of nowhere just >> ran inside of me. Uh, >> okay. So, so there was a car in front. >> No, behind him. >> Behind him. Okay. Do you know how far? >> Uh, it was kind of hard. I would probably say maybe 50 ft behind him cuz I could see two headlights on that one. One on this one. Uh they were at the white light or the white sign, sorry. >> And then uh when I saw that I was like some row cars coming, one's got a headlight out so I probably can't see well. So maybe they're running slow or whatever. >> But yeah, once I saw they were only with white sign, I was like, I got time to turn. >> Okay. >> And as soon as I turned, it was >> okay. >> Boom. Right in the >> Okay. >> She claimed she'd already made the turn when Sanchez drove into her vehicle. The investigation later determined that the accident happened while Clayson was turning and not after. Still, her defense was that Sanchez was traveling at a high rate of speed, but this was later discovered to be untrue. >> I don't know how fast you were going or what, but it definitely wasn't like it wasn't like I was trying to squeak in at all. Like there was plenty of room. >> You thought you had plenty of time not to get you had to gun it or anything. >> No, not at all. I was literally I was slowing here and then maybe like 20 miles an hour when I made the turn. >> Okay. So you slowed down to 20 and then >> Oh yeah. Yeah. Because I go left here. So it's you got stop the lights or it's I'm almost stop but at least a rolling slow I mean you're not going to make hard. >> Oh yeah. >> Well I I'll be honest with you. I I would love to rule out impairment but without the fields it is hard to rule that out. Obviously it's voluntary. I won't I won't ask you again but um there there may always be that question. >> Yeah. >> Down the road. >> I I just joking. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Sarah's slurred speech was becoming more obvious. The officer later wrote that up in his statement along with glassy eyes and disorganized speech. At this point, the officer was pretty much convinced that she'd been driving under the influence. So, he tried asking her again to do a test. >> I know how it goes, too. So, >> yeah. What do you mean you know how it goes? I even if there's like a little if I had some I had a gloss on early or something like that. I I just don't want don't want to do it. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> But no, I definitely don't feel impaired. I don't feel like there was impairment as an issue. I I >> Did you have a glass wine earlier? >> Not going to answer it. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> You you just mentioned like if >> if I if I would have Yeah. or had Yeah. But >> so his bike kind of got pushed in front of your car, but he was was he still in the roadway? Is that kind? And what happened? >> Yeah. So he was right about where it probably stand. He was maybe just a little bit north of him. >> Okay. >> To the north. >> It was clear as day that the accident happened because of trooper Clayson's bad judgment. But this stupid mistake cost someone their life. The officer knew what he had to do, but first decided to consult his colleagues. So, I was just studying her. Um, her she got a couple misspelled words on here. Okay. >> She wrote sigh s. She she she said 100 ft. She um sorry I'm going a little fast. She she estimated the uh the distance between the guy on the motorcycle and her to be 100 ft, which that's way more than that's like that's 500 ft. Um she said she was almost through her turn when clearly she was at the very beginning of her turn. Her eyes are a little bit glassy. A little bit. >> Those bite, >> but could be. Could be. But we got to air on the side of caution. I do not have a great sense of smell, but I think I smelled a little bit of odor of alcohol enough for me to say. And then I I told her I'm like, "Hey, we just want to rule out impairment." And by you not doing the I'm like, "I'm not going to ask you again." But I'm like, "We can't rule it out." And she's like, "Yeah, well, if I would have had a glass of wine earlier, I know how this goes." And I said, "Did you have a glass of wine earlier?" And she said, "I'm not coming after that." So, >> okay. >> I think with everything, >> as the officer moved in to make the arrest, the most mind-boggling thing is how calm trooper Clayson was. Perhaps being a trooper had inflated her ego so much that she thought she'd be untouchable. Unfortunately, she's about to learn the hard way that it's just not true. >> All right. So, like I said, we were really trying to rule alcohol out. I I'm not convinced that alcohol wasn't a factor. So, right now, you are under arrest. Okay. Okay. Let's go ahead and put your hand behind your back. So, we will be um doing a search warrant for blood. Okay. That way there will be no questions. Do you have anything in your pockets or anything? >> Uh yeah. >> Okay. Piece of card for me. >> I can do a breath test. >> Well, at this point, I think we'll just probably do the search warrant. >> Okay. Trooper Clayson was arrested and she was charged with vehicular homicide while DUI. She was required to do a blood test and the results revealed that 6 hours after the crash her blood alcohol level was.17 which is more than double the legal limit. On the 15th of February 2024 in New Mexico, a driver reported that a white Jeep Cherokee nearly hit him while he was driving on Highway 516. Deputies were dispatched to the highway and quickly located the SUV. >> Bobby, step out your vehicle. All right. >> Come on, Bobby. >> You got your kids in the back, dude. What's going on, man? Hey, Salazar, come over here. >> Can you open the door? >> Yeah, let's open the door. >> All right, buddy. >> Hey, Bobby. Yeah. Let's step out. >> You don't have your gun on you. >> Step out. >> Step out this way. Yeah. Just keep your hands up. >> Your door's not going to open any further. >> Yeah. Just kind of squeeze on it. >> The driver was Robert Shuttleworth, a 29-year-old Farmington police officer. Seated in the back were his two small children, and there was visible damage to the Jeep Cherokee. As soon as the officers managed to pull Shuttleworth out of the vehicle, it quickly became apparent that he was very drunk. He could barely stand on his own two feet. >> All right, let's go over here. >> Let's go over here. >> Let's go here. Let's walk over here. Okay. >> Hey, don't keep walk. Let's come over here. >> You got nothing on you, Bobby? You touch your gun? >> No. Let's walk over here. >> Hey. Hey. Let's walk over here. >> Bobby, let's go over here. >> Let's go over here. Let's go over here. >> What's going on? [Music] So, you know what we got to do, right? >> You just headed home or what? >> Where are you coming from? >> No. >> No. >> You want to do a field sobriety test? >> No. No. >> Okay. Go ahead and put your hands behind your back. >> The officer here was in very bad condition. In fact, it looked as though he could pass out at any moment. Also, he could barely manage to utter a single word, let alone a sentence. He also showed a lack of concern for his kids who were clearly in distress. Let's come over here to the front of my unit. Okay. >> Just hanging on to you so that way you don't fall over. All right. Okay. >> Let's just stand right here. Okay. >> I'm just going to check you. I'm going to check you for any weapons. Okay. You have your wallet on you? >> No. No. Where's your wallet at? >> Okay. Come take a seat back here. Have a seat back here. Okay. Let's go. I'm sorry. >> Yep. This this way. You able to get it there? >> Yep. >> I'm going to read you the next pop. Okay, you know the process, ma'am. You're under arrest for DWI. The New Mexico Public Consent Act requires you to submit to a breath test. >> Let me just read it off. Okay. >> While one officer read his Miranda, right, the other officers took care of the children and called EMS to check them out. Then they discussed how to get in touch with their mother, Stephanie. >> What's the deal with the kids? Where are the kids? >> They're with EMS right now. >> And they're saying if they look at them, they're going to have to take them. Is that >> Yes, because they were involved in an accident. Unless his parent is notified and is able to just take them themselves. >> They don't have a phone number for her. They're going to try to go by. >> We ran her information, too. So, does she not come up in previous calls? Hey, Bobby. >> Hey, Stephanie's coming by to pick up the kiddos. Okay. All right. When I was coming here, there was somebody in the center median walking. I don't know why. >> A guy. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Um I didn't know if they cross the street or what. So, I mean, I wanted to get here, so I didn't stop. >> There's a vehicle also on the side of the road that may have been his. >> He might be walking back. >> Okay. Well, actually, I may drive my truck so I don't get run over and get killed, but I'm going to kind of see if I can see what he did. I'm not sure. And what this told us is that he crossed over all four lanes and that he went into a field. There's not a single damn field from here down there. [Applause] >> Well, then he probably backed up and pulled in. The bottles in the passenger seat showed that Shuttleworth didn't just drive under the influence. He continued drinking while driving. While the damage to his car was obvious, the cops on scene were still trying to figure out what he hit. >> Well, he just kept going, I'm sure. >> Yeah, I full [Music] speed through here. >> Wow. >> That's what I'm saying. I'm assuming whatever that intersection. >> Look at that rock too. You see that? >> Boom. >> That right up there. >> I want that. Can't really tell where it left the road. >> I'm just going to whenever I do my crash when I do my 44 report, I'm going to use this intersection right here as where it went off. All right. Yeah, looks like 3157. >> And how did he miss that? >> It was purely luck that Shuttleworth missed both the sign and the telephone pole when he swerved off the road. His carelessness put his kids in harm's way and recklessly endangered all their lives. Soon after, the suspect's wife arrived at the scene. >> Hello. Are you Stephanie? I'm sorry. We're just walking to see you just went where where the car went. We can walk over here and talk to your kiddos. Okay. It just seems like he got drunk and wrecked his vehicle. >> Into something else? >> No, into the ditch. >> The ditch? >> Well, it's right here. It's over here. He It got out. So, >> what? >> So, he was going this way and is it over here? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Are you serious? >> So, let's go talk to kiddos. >> What in the hell? He is not this person. >> He's not. Is he going through something right now that would cause him to drink? >> No. Well, we have problems, but it's like he's going to do this if he knows. [Music] >> That's not real. That's not real. [Music] Daddy did it. We do it. I don't know why he did it, baby. >> Shuttleworth's BAC was 27, which is three times over the legal limit. When they arrived at the jail, he was completely out, slumped over in the back seat. He was charged with aggravated DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, two counts of DUI with a minor in the vehicle, and failure to maintain traffic lane. Shuttleworth accepted a plea deal for just a few of those charges. And now for something completely different. On December 5th, 2022, there was trouble at a bar in St. Pete Beach, Florida. The cops were dispatched there for disorderly conduct and what the suspect did was disgusting to say the least. >> So what happened exactly? I'm going back to go get ice to the bar and I see him with he out and he's in the ice bucket. I just poured all the verbal abusive and then got four times. press again. >> So when he pushed you arguing about did he just like hey you can't do >> listening to like tough >> the big macho man. >> Yeah. Big macho man. Yeah. >> And then what happened? So he got in your face. >> Yeah. He got in my face. >> Do you remember what he was saying? this this saying verb verbal like bad word. >> According to witnesses, this unruly customer thought it would be a good idea to pee in the ice bucket. By the time the deputies arrived at the bar, the suspect and his girlfriend had already left. Luckily, the cops didn't have a hard time tracking them down. >> Okay. All right. >> What was they look like? What happened, Germaine? >> He got >> Huh? >> He got shoved. He pissed in one of the ice buckets in the back. >> Oh, >> yeah. >> What do you look like? >> A white shirt. Can you come? You got a Hey, Germaine. >> Point this out for me, bro. >> Probably out in the sand. It's an accidental. >> Oh god. 4x4 in a nice book. It sounds good to me. I'm not 62. Reportedly, the bar employee and the security guard tried to get the man to stop urinating in the ice bucket and tried to escort the guy off the property. That's when he became aggressive and started pushing the men and cursing at them. The man in question was later identified as a 30-year-old police officer named Henry Kapalouch. Hey, you're going to get tag. Hey, if I get you, you're going to get tag. Hey, you're going to get tag. Get the on the ground. Both of you on the ground right now. >> Get on the ground. Yeah. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Congratulations. I don't give a bad >> Back up. Back up. Is it a joke? >> Guys, what's going on here? >> Are you guys serious? >> Y look like I'm joking. >> You guys have a real life on this. >> Back up. >> Hey, back up. >> Yeah, we chased him down to this trade wins. We're getting them in custody. >> Kate, back him up. >> Back up. >> Hey, back up. But don't talk to >> No, we're good. >> I don't give a about your bad, dog. >> As soon as the couple saw the cops approaching, they made a run for it. And the arresting officer clearly didn't appreciate it. He had already been complaining about having to walk on sand and now he was forced to run after the suspects. >> Stand up. >> Yeah. >> Disorderly conduct. >> I was walking on the beach. That's all he said. That's where we're going. You guys are exciting place here or what? >> Huh? >> Godamn joke. >> It's a joke cuz the job we have. >> You should do the same thing, right? >> Are you guys recording it or what? >> Yeah, I am. >> Oh, sure. If you're actually a cop, they're going to love this one. As if taking the officer on a sandy foot chase wasn't bad enough, the suspect berated the officer all the way back to the bar and his girlfriend didn't stay quiet either. While the couple tried to calm each other down at the same time they were taunting the officers, >> bro. Just stop. Just shut up. I am shutting up, dude. Holy. You guys are idiot. >> Hey, Sergeant. Are you Sarge? >> I am. >> Hey, Sergeant. I'm SC police just to know you know, man. >> Oh, you guys have fun tonight for no reason. Jesus Christ. Hey, let my left wrist go at least. I can't even feel it. No, seriously. Let my left wrist go. My left one, not my right one, man. Godamn. Holy. This is a joke. Hey, there's a confirmation 100% >> pissing in the ice bucket. >> Yeah. >> Bucket. >> Yeah. >> Is that >> Is that my arrest right now? >> Is that a problem? >> Disorderly conduct. Yeah. >> Ice bucket. >> Yeah. Sit down. >> I am going to sit down. >> Henry acted like your typical bully. He was desperate to be in control of what was happening. When he realized he couldn't gain control, he started mocking the arresting officer. Safe to say Henry's behavior was unbecoming for an officer of the law. >> Sit down. You're going to push me here. You're the toughest guy I know. >> Congratulations. >> Right here. Look at you. >> Yeah. Your precinct would be real proud of you. >> It's the fourth precinct on 140%. >> I'm sure they'd be real proud of you. >> Sit down. Sit down. You stand up like that again, you're tasten, >> bro. You're about to dump on the like that, bro. >> I'm sitting on the bench, man. >> Jesus Christ. >> What the [ __ ] are you talking about? >> Sit on the bench, dude. >> Sit on the bench. >> You keep your chest up. I'm sitting on the bench. >> Henry, >> sit on the bench, Sarge. Hey, Sarge. >> Henry, please be quiet. >> Just when the girlfriend managed to calm the man down, she started meddling in the officer's business. She was warned multiple times that she was obstructing official business, but nothing would stop her. And it didn't take long for things to get heated again. >> It is a thing. >> Hey, he's right. It's obstruction. Stand back. This is really not a thing though. >> Okay, ma'am. Can you please just back up? Hold on a second. I'm talking girlfriend here. I'm giving her a lawful order to back up. >> Stand back. Stand back, >> guys. This is really not a thing. You're >> Kate. Stand back. These guys got a problem with me for no reason. Stand back. >> You're going to jail for discon. You can't You can't be drunk. Piss in ice buckets. Yell at security. Get >> ice buckets. Stand at your security guards. Let me see your roof here. Show your back. Show your >> right here. >> Is right there, >> bro. Stand back up. >> Sit down. >> You're going to throw me down again. >> Sit down. >> Buddy, >> it's right here, >> buddy. All right. >> Good. Good. Good. Is this a Is this a Tampa Bay police? >> It's a Pel County Sheriff's Office. >> It's a what? >> Whoa. Sit down. >> You keep pushing my face in the wall here. >> Yeah. If you keep standing up >> my face in the wall here. Have I showed any resistance? >> Yes, you keep showing. >> You're about to get arrested for >> Hey, hey, stop. >> Most cops are accustomed to following orders from their superiors. So, when the sergeant got involved, Henry listened. But sadly, it didn't last long. His very quick temper combined with alcohol just wouldn't let him stay quiet for long. >> I need you to relax for a second. Okay. But listen to me. Listen to me. I I've been here for a few minutes. You'll be nothing but yelling. Relax. My body came on. Just relax. >> You guys are not making things better for yourself. >> One thing at a time. Young lady, >> back away. I'm definely not. >> Just stay seated and I won't have to assist you back down every time. >> Assist me back down. >> Yeah. >> Henry, >> have I been screaming? Act like a >> Yeah, you've been acting like the whole time. >> I don't believe, bro. I think you just drank too much alcohol and made bad decisions tonight. >> Stop hungry. I hate doing this to people that are say wear the same uniform, right? But you make stupid decisions. This is what we have to do. >> You're not you're not helping matters. >> Officer Henry Capelch was taken to jail and charged with battery and disorderly conduct. He bonded himself out of jail for $650. On July 22nd, 2024, the cops found themselves in a very strange situation. They were dispatched to a crash site along with EMS. While the medics were checking the driver, he tried to flee on foot. They quickly called up to him, but that wasn't the end of this hilarious ordeal. >> I love you. >> I love you, too, brother. >> So, we're going to stand you up and we're going to walk back over there. Okay. Do >> you understand? have to pay for this goggles for your SWAT team. >> Well, I'm sure they appreciate that. >> I do. >> I believe you. >> I already called Sergeant. >> All right. So, we're going to stand you up and we're going to walk back over there. Okay. All right. Ready? One, two, and three. >> There you go. >> All right. >> All right. Let's hold back over there. Okay. Hey, look through my picture. >> No way. >> Look through my pictures and see. All right. You feeling better now? >> No. >> Okay. I said I just want to make sure you're okay. So, when somebody starts walking away from a crash scene and not answering, makes me think maybe. >> They were checking him out and then he stood up and walked away. Amazingly, the suspect appeared uninjured and somewhat coherent, which is pretty crazy considering he just rammed his car straight into a tree. Since the man was a cop, the officers felt they could take the handcuffs off. He wouldn't be so dumb as to try and run away again, would he? >> How does that make it easier? >> Being in cuffs, you know why you're in cuffs, John? >> Yes, >> sir. >> You You tried to walk away from the crash. >> Yeah. >> We have to walk a ways away. Can you please take my pants off? >> If I take them off, are you going to walk away again? If you do, I'm going to put you back in cuffs. >> Would you like me? >> I just don't want you to walk away from the scene. >> No problem. >> Okay. If I take them off. >> Yes. >> Okay. You You are Listen, you promised me. >> I promise. >> I hope you're a man of your word. >> Yeah, I know. They don't feel good. >> Yeah. Now, don't turn your wrist. >> There we go. >> There you go, sir. There you go. Now you relax. Just relax. >> Judging by his slurred speech and inability to stand straight, it was clear that the suspect, who happened to be an offduty cop, was very drunk. It might seem strange that the officers uncuffed him. But after all, he was an inebriated, overweight officer, and therefore he had no chance of outrunning them. >> I don't understand this. >> Why don't you understand? >> You are my people. >> Yeah. What would you like? >> Just relax. >> Just relax. Yeah. >> What's going on, boss? >> Are you on duty now? >> Me? >> Yes. Yes, sir. >> Okay, let's take our badge off. >> Yes, sir. >> Put in your pocket. I'm not taking it. I just don't want You don't need >> That's all, >> man. Go home. >> No, you can't go home. You can't go home yet. >> All right. So, what needs to be >> We have a DUI unit coming to check you out. And once they clear you, then we'll have to figure out what we're doing with the car and whatnot. If there's a place you want it taken to or towed to or whatot. >> While the tree and the car were badly damaged, the suspect wasn't seriously injured. As the officers briefed each other on the fire department and DUI units being called out to the scene, this very drunk officer was trying to focus on not falling over. Is there a particular uh place you want the car towed to? Cuz it ain't driving. >> Yeah. Where? >> We got a couple minutes. Just let me know what you don't go in there. No, you can't go in there, buddy. >> Don't go in there. They know what's in there. >> Yeah, you can't go in there. >> What? >> Can't go in there. Don't go in there. Listen, let let these both both of us and then you can go about your business. Okay. >> I got you. >> I got you. I understand that. But you know that we still have to do our job. Okay. >> Stay over here. >> Where you going? Where you going? >> Really? >> That escape attempt ended exactly as expected with the suspect's face planted right on the ground. It's a perfect example of the downside of alcohol. Very intoxicated people tend to overestimate their capabilities. The suspect wasn't taking any of this too seriously, though. >> Put your hand behind your back. Put your hand >> Come on, John. Cut it out, John. Cut it out, bro. John, stop it. Really? >> John, what are you doing? >> You're just making this worse for yourself. >> Really, John? >> John? Really? >> Come on, man. Really, John? >> Really? >> I am. >> What are you doing? >> I am You do the same thing. >> Yeah. You close yours and I'll close mine. >> Now, let's be honest here. These officers didn't even have to run after him. They could have just walked and waited for John to get tired, which would have taken under a minute. But on the bright side, at least they all had a good laugh. >> Where you where you think you're going? >> Watching you run is like watching something moving in slow motion. Yeah, that's kind of comical. What are you doing? >> What were you? It's the funniest thing I've ever seen in my life. Really? >> Listen to you. You're gas over there. >> Me, too. It broke. >> Wait, I've never seen it. Like, what is he doing? >> Yeah. I was like, what did this do? Really? Really? >> Chad, what are you doing? Chad, why are you running off? >> Boston Marathon's not till August. What are you doing? Come out. >> All right. What are you doing? >> All right. You done? >> I'll leave you. >> All right. No more shenanigans, right? We're going to stand you up >> and we're just going to figure out what we got here. Okay. But no more running. No more shenanigans. >> Can you please stand me up? Come here. >> There we go. All right. >> The two officers weren't angry with him, just rather amused. All joking aside, the one thing on their mind was, where in hell did he think he was going? The suspect seemed to like the question because he then found an opportunity to namerop an important friend. >> Here's my question. Where where were you going? >> My house. >> Where is your house? >> Right here on the next block. >> Oh, [Music] I am Gregory Tony. >> Gregory Tony. Who's Greg Tony? >> The sheriff of County. >> You the sheriff of Bar County? >> No, I'm not. >> Okay, sir. I have his best friend. >> Oh, you're his best friend. >> Sorry. >> Okay. >> Do you see my badge? >> I saw that. I saw your badge. Yeah, I saw that. What does that mean? >> That means I'm his number one, sir. >> Okay. Well, what does that have to do with this call? >> It means >> What does your best friend has to do with this call? That's all well and good, but when you go out and do something that brings attention to law enforcement, we all have a job to do. Correct. >> That's a yes or no question. Yeah. Okay. Okay, so now they >> despite his attempts to get out of trouble by mentioning repeatedly that he was best friends with the Broward County Sheriff, the officers couldn't care less. They figured the best way to get this over was to test the man for alcohol right on the spot. But that meant taking the handcuffs off one more time. >> All right, he's going to run some tests. What's your name? Chad, you said? >> All right, Chad. Listen, he's going to run some tests. Let him finish up his test so we can get you out of here. But you can't screw around or do anything anymore. Let him do it so we can all get on our way. Fair enough. All right, brother. So just listen to him. Let him do his thing. We'll get out of here. All right. I got you. All right. Just you got to do what I'm telling you to do. Okay. >> You have your Miranda. All right. Chad, are you injured at all as a result of any of this? What do you mean a little bit? >> A little? >> Yes. A little bit. >> Okay. Do you need to go to the hospital? >> Probably. >> Probably. >> Okay. So, if we call if we call the medics to come here, >> do you want to go to the hospital? Is that it? >> Yes. What kind of pain are you in right now that requires you to go to the hospital? >> It's what? >> Awkward. What? >> Okay. And I respect that. >> You better. >> Chad was charged with DUI and resisting arrest, but maybe he should have also been arrested for impersonating the voice of Nick Noly. Oh. Thank you for being a part of the Hidden Files family. If you haven't subscribed yet, make sure you do so so you don't miss a thing. We'll see you next time.
