Peel toe. Peel toe. Peel toe. It happened. >> Okay. So, Valerie, right now you're under arrest. You want to put your hands on your back. >> Come out here. >> I'm not coming. Come out here. >> I don't have to. YOU >> LISTEN TO ME NOW. >> I'M TRYING TO TALK TO YOU AND YOU'RE ACTING LIKE THIS. ARE YOU >> AWAY? STOP. STOP. [screaming] >> Wisdom doesn't always come with age. Elderly suspects might look gentle and frail, but rest assured, not all of them are harmless. From retail theft to road rage, you can never assume it'll be an easy arrest when these incredibly wild granny's face off with the cops. >> Well, you don't have to do it. You know what? You don't What do you do it for? Why do you work? >> To protect them kid little kids like that. >> You know what? He was not He was not in danger. How would you react if a stranger picked your child up and threw them in a swimming pool? And to make things worse, you know your kid doesn't know how to swim yet. On the 2nd of May, 2024, that's exactly what happened. The family took it pretty well, but still decided to call the police. >> Uh, what's going on? >> Hey, what's up, man? I like your hair. Let's go right there. >> There's a woman. She's like I don't know. You'll see her, but she's something. She's off her rocker or she's drawn. He was sitting on the steps and she picked him up and tossed him in the pool. >> She tossed your kid. >> She was basically she was basically like being weird like you know annoying us. We were like being nice to her and then >> she came and play with toys and she was like >> she came and sat down by us took he was sitting took him and tossed him into the pool. >> And then she admitted it and said it doesn't matter. He wasn't upset. He doesn't seem to care. >> I said man please go over there. Leave us alone. And she just kept >> she's like I was thrown in the pool and I'm fine people. >> Okay. But then she took some goggles from my side >> and threw them >> and threw them. And then when asked her to get them, she's like, "You can get them." I'm like, "No, >> he doesn't know how to She's still in there. >> She's still in there. She keeps kind of coming up and trying to start." >> She come to do my investigation, but would you want to press charges for her throwing your kid in the pool? >> Apparently, this granny assaulted several kids. She threw one kid in the swimming pool and took another kid's swimming goggles and tossed them in the water. The witnesses figured she was mentally unstable and posed a threat to everyone's safety. When the cops caught up with her, she was just about to leave on her bike. >> So, what's going on today? >> Yeah. You might want to get their story, or did you get that already? >> I talked to him a little bit, but now I'm just trying to get your side of story. >> Uh, well, I'm heading home. You want to meet our house? >> No, we could just talk right here. >> All right. What do you got to say? What do you want to ask? >> I just want to know what's going. >> What do you mean what's going on? I don't know what's going on. What? You tell me. >> All right. Let me let me give you the information I have and then we'll see if you could help me piece together everything. Right. So basically they're saying that without permission you took their child and threw him in the pool. >> I tossed him in the pool a couple feet. Yeah. Yeah. Is that like wrong? Is that a law against that? >> Yeah. You can't like grab other people's >> No, I wasn't doing it I didn't do it with bad intentions. If I mean to think I had bad intentions, maybe we could have something happening. >> Okay. But you can't you can't grab other people's children and throw them in especially an infant and throw them >> What do we do now? How do we lock me up in jail? Throw me away? >> Well, I want I want I want you to explain what's what's going [music] on a little bit more. >> The woman was nonchalant and also unaware that there might be consequences for her actions. What if, just for instance, the young child had drowned after swallowing a bunch of water? In countless ways, things could have ended badly, but somehow she didn't seem to get it. >> I don't have anything to explain. >> Do you not understand what happened to that? >> For fun. >> For fun. Yeah, but you it's not your it's not your child. >> I was okay with that. >> Um, actually, no, I didn't actually get free permission. >> Did you get permission from your parent to come out here today and talk to me? >> I did. >> Well, you did. Oh, did you? >> No, I didn't. >> But this is my job. You're not. But I'm a grown man. >> You broke the law. >> But I'm a grown man. >> But there's law. Whether you're grown or not. >> I'm not grabbing ice cream. >> Wait, is there a law battery, right? You commit a battery. I guess lock me up. >> Okay, ma'am. How about this? How about Do you have your ID on you? Do we start that? I don't know. >> No, actually I do. I do not have >> Okay. What's your name then? >> Eileen. You know what? Do we really have to do this? This is like talk to them a little more. I mean, I don't really don't think that >> What's your last name? Eileen. >> I'm sorry. I don't really think they have a name complaint. You really want to do >> Eileen, what's your last name? >> The suspect here, Eileen, was the definition of a wild granny. Instead of listening to the officers, she kept insisting the whole situation was unreasonable. But when the sergeant arrived and took a very firm stance, she didn't take it too well. >> Look, I'm Sergeant Cavish for the sheriff's office. I'm one of the supervisors. You put your hand on a kid against their will. That is a crime against I'm talking. I'm talking. I'm talking you. >> All right. Turn it back. >> Thank you. >> Look what you're doing. >> Look what you've done. >> No, ma'am. You did this yourself. They didn't even want to press charges, but we got to identify you. So, your least going to jail for resisting now. You want to play games? This is what you get. Okay. >> Keep walking. Come on. >> Have a seat. >> Have a seat. >> Sit. >> I'm sitting. >> You have to put your legs. >> I don't want to get in this car. >> You're going all the way in the car. >> I do not want to get going all the way in the car. >> You know this. I don't want to get in this car. >> Okay. >> And I don't want to come to work some days, but I still do. You have to do it. You know what? You don't What do you do it for? Why do you work? >> To protect them kid, little kids like that. >> Oh, you know what? He was not. He was not in danger. >> He was not in danger. >> With the suspect secured safely in the back of a cruiser, the cops talked to witnesses and tried to get more information and also inquired about who was pressing charges. >> Hey, did you see what happened over here? >> I caught the tail end of my 16-year-old and my 10-year-old were here. Okay. When I walked up, my six-year-old said, "Hey, she took our goggles and just threw them." >> She took the goggles, too. >> Just threw them. And as she said, "Man, will you grab ourselves goggles? We can get them herself." I said, "Well, he can't swim. That's why he's in a shallow end." She's like, "Oh, he can swim." I'm like, "No, ma'am." Okay. >> Um, and she just kind of got up in everybody's faces. Okay. Unstabilized. Okay. >> Or something like that. >> I think I think that's where we're at right now. >> Um, >> we're going to do investigate. Uh, it might fit the it might fit the statute for robbery by sighting snatching by hair taking the goggles and chucking them, depriving him of his property. Interested in pursuing charges for that, or do you want to just see if we get her evaluated? >> Okay, >> get her some help and get away from >> Meanwhile, in the back of the squad car, Eileen was starting to show signs of distress. Even at this point, she was restless in her defiance, but underneath it all, her frustration was growing. You could easily hear the panic in her voice. up tire. >> Hey, excuse me. >> Let me out of here, please. >> I'm sorry. >> Please unlock my door. I'd like to get out of here. Please let me out. >> Right now. >> Why? >> I'll tell you in a second. All right. >> No, tell me now. >> Take me to jail, you happy. >> I am resisting this arrest. Yes. Put that. >> So you can't like >> charge me with resisting arrest because I'm not resisting this arrest. >> So just leave me right here. You know why? Why bother going through all this [ __ ] I resist this arrest. Hey, you know what? On the way to the the lockup, can you stop by uh my house? It's right around the corner. And let my husband know if he's if he's probably aware already, but let's just do this. What do I do at the jail, sir? What do I do? Sit there for what? How long? Whatever. >> Adene was starting to unravel. She was struggling to come to terms with the fact that she was actually going to jail. He was still too stubborn to acknowledge that she'd broken the law. In her eyes, everybody else but her was to blame. The kids, of course, the witnesses, and even the police. >> Maybe you should have this done to you someday. And then, you know what? I'm sure you would quit your job. You wouldn't do this others. >> I don't commit crimes. >> Well, you know what? I didn't crim either, sir. But you're committing one right now. You know that. It's called kidnapping. You know what? It's up, isn't it? Do you like being tased? Did you like it? >> No. >> Okay. Well, you know what? I don't like it either. And you know what? It happened to me, too. >> Don't commit a crime, >> but not with my not with my consent. You maybe you consented to it and it was fine for you and all fun and games, but you know what? I don't want to be locked up. Hey, you know, if you want to squirrel a conscience here, you could turn this car around and bring me back to my house. Yes, you can. You can actually. You actually can. But you're with your >> She kept pleading with the officer to take her home instead of to the jail house. Eileen believed that it was all blown out of proportion. But when the officer dismissed her, she had a few choice words for him. >> Whatever you are, whatever you are, you're just a You have no balls. You have no conscience. You have no love. You have no love of other people. You're whatever you are. Okay, drop me off. And it's not your problem, right? Let it be somebody else's problem. Who can prosecute me for nothing? I did nothing wrong. Would you treat yourself this way? Would you really think about it? Would you want to be treated this way? Dude, >> tell me. Really? Is that why is that why I have this job? Cuz you [music] like, you know, harming other people, hurting other people. Really? I'll give you my number and you can call me. You tell me one day why you did this to me. Really? Tell me now. Why? >> Oh. Oh, really? What's the crime? throwing a baby into a pool. I've done it with my own children or my own child and I wasn't arrested for that. Why am I getting arrested now? >> This granny stayed defiant and unrepentant till the very end. But the same went for the officer that she was taken to jail where she was formally charged with aggravated child abuse and resisting an officer without violence. When you go to the airport, the last thing you expect is for someone to ask you to pet their dog. And what you really don't expect is to get assaulted if you refuse to do so. Especially if the person in question is a little old lady. >> She just kept my wife kissed my dog. Now she hold my dog and then she started passing out. >> She started it and everything. >> Just ignored it. And then she got up and sat right next to me. I don't want to sit next. >> She's like now and and just called names and then she got up and I reported her after she to find physical. >> Yeah, you were up there when she she said I'm going to hit you. She said she I'm going to hit you. >> So she did not hit you but she did. >> Yeah, she did. >> She went to them and let them know that you know what was happening and again nobody came. sat back. >> So we sat back down and she was ignor she was bothering the people at the hospital. >> They wouldn't they wouldn't hold her dog and then she comes over. >> She got right in my face and she said, "I'm going to I'm going to smack you. I'm going to smack you." >> The granny did in fact try to smack her, but the woman raised her arms in self-defense. In response, the granny grabbed her by the hair and yanked her. That's when the husband stepped in to separate them. As things turned out, Granny was under the influence of heavy medication, not to mention having had several drinks too many. >> But you're on several medications, correct? [music] >> Yeah. >> Have you had any alcohol to drink today? >> Yeah. >> How much have you had to drink? >> Um, two shots before I came and four shots when I got here. >> Four shots when you got here. >> Yeah. >> How long have you been here today? if >> since 6:00 a.m. Okay. It's 9:16 now. Okay. >> So, you've had a total of six shots today and medication. >> Okay. Um, did you guys want to press charges? >> No. No. >> Okay. She just >> She's just Okay. >> She's just right. >> Do you happen to have a driver's license on you? >> No. I don't got it. >> Okay. Do you have a state ID on you or a passport? May I see it, please? >> Hold on. By her own admission, this elderly lady had taken several medications along with downing at least six shots of alcohol. That much booze could impair a full-grown male and was certainly too much for a frail old lady as vulnerable as her. >> Okay, ma'am. Out of concern that you've been drinking alcohol and taking medication, I'm going to contact medics just to check you out to make sure you're okay. >> Hey, Brian. >> [snorts] >> Where's my pixie? >> Where's your wife? >> Pixie. >> Oh, your dog. >> I'm going to be >> Your dog's right there next to you. >> Okay. >> Get away from me. >> All right. How about I look in your purse for your ID? >> Put your leg down, too. >> I can get a shoe lock. >> All right. That's all I want to see is your ID, ma'am. >> By the way, the granny lifted her leg up to keep the officer at bay. Clearly, she wasn't going down without a fight. The cops hadn't laid a hand on her yet, but somehow she knew that it was only a matter of time. >> Back away from me. >> I am back. That's not how this works. >> Back away from me. >> Not how it works. >> Oh, it's exactly how it works. Back the away from me. >> Shut the Ma'am, go ahead and stand up. >> You're under arrest. >> You're under arrest. >> Do not resist. Let go. Let go. >> Let go. >> Let go. >> Let go. >> He's breaking my arm. >> And stop resisting. Stop. >> Of course, she kept resisting because that's what these wild grannies do. But then one of the cops inadvertently touched her most prized possession, her cute little dog, Pixie. And that's when things started to get way out of hand. >> Pixie, >> ma'am, quit trying to kick. >> Do you not kick? YOU NOT >> KICK MY PIXIE. >> Another >> You're not going to kick. >> You're not going to kick. All right. Oh, knock it off his eyes. >> You're not going to kick people. These cuffs are too small or too big. >> Camera is going >> roll over. She's bleeding. Just a heads up. I've already called medics because of the alcohol. >> Let go of the cops. >> Let go of the cops. The challenge here was not that the cops couldn't handle her. It was that she was far too fragile and old for any kind of physical force. Still though, they had no choice but to detain her. And unfortunately, because of her constant twitching, the handcuffs were chafing her wrist. Even at that point, she refused any help. All she was thinking about was little Pixie. >> Oh, my baby. >> He's all right. He's right here. >> No, he's not. I hate you. I hate you. Leave me alone, >> man. We got medics coming to check you out here in a few moments. THEY SHOULD [screaming] >> WE'RE GOING TO have to take take a look at you real quick and we'll get you on your way here. Go ahead. >> If we let you sit up in the chair, are you going to quit kicking? >> No. My baby. >> She's fine. Hey, >> he's fine. >> He's all right. >> No, he's not. I hate you. >> At that point, she was trying to bang her head on the floor, but the cops quickly intervened, preventing the granny from harming herself further. As they picked the woman up and carried her out of the gate area, she kept shouting threats and lots of profanity. >> Do not kick. Let's walk her backwards. >> No. >> YOU GOT HER STUFF. >> [screaming] >> IF >> WE SET YOU DOWN, ARE YOU GOING TO STOP KICKING? >> We'll let you walk. >> You cannot kick us. Do you understand that? >> We want you to walk by yourself. >> You're continue to kick. We're going to have to carry you again. Do you understand? >> Yes, sir. >> I can't let you walk to those people and potentially kick them. >> Oh. All right. All right. Let's walk. >> Oh, okay. Just keep it. >> He's bringing him. >> Yep. >> The dog's owner, identified only as Cindy, was escorted down the runway, and paramedics were already standing by. The woman's wrist were bloody from the chafing already, but strangely, she still wasn't keen on getting any treatment. >> Hey, you're on the ground. >> She's got a laceration on one of her hands. What happened? She's intoxicated and she assaulted someone because they wouldn't pet her dog >> sergeant. And before this happened, I was talking to her. She's on medications. I'm trying to find out what >> and she's had six shots of liquor this morning, which is why I eventually pulled out a heads up. >> She was attempting to kick him. She reared up to get my sergeant that I had to put her to the ground when she was caught. >> You want to have a seat? >> Yeah. >> Your legs getting a seat. Sit on the back of the fire truck if you want. >> Hey, how about that? A fire truck. >> A little higher up. >> She's been grabbing things behind her back. So, >> is there anything there that's critical? >> The cops let Cindy rest on the back of the fire truck. Unbeknownst to her, one of the cops brought Pixie to try and calm her down. After realizing her pet was safe, she felt invigorated, switched gears again, and went back to being a wild granny. >> Where are you? >> She's right there. Right there. Do you see her? See him? >> He's right there. >> I get it. Oh my god. >> I'm going to take it off. I'm going to take it off. >> You're not trying to take your cuffs off, but stop kicking, Cindy. your legs. Cross your legs. >> You want to lay down on the ground? >> You want to lay down on the ground? >> You're not going to stop kicking. That's what we're going to have. >> You want to lay on the ground? >> Yeah. >> All right. >> Do we have leg restraints? >> Whoa. No. Have a seat. You want to kick? >> By that time, she only had two things on her mind. Holding her dog Pixie and kicking as many cops as possible. Energized by a mix of alcohol, medication, and adrenaline. She didn't even realize how badly she'd been injured. We're going to take care of them, but we got to work with >> Cindy. You got her. >> [screaming] >> They charged the woman with resisting arrest, two counts of disorderly conduct, and obstructing official business. The woman's bail was set at 2500, and she eventually accepted a plea deal. In return for pleading guilty to obstruction, all other charges were dropped. They sentenced the woman to 90 days in jail with all but two of them suspended. While Cindy made the mistake of mixing multiple medications with alcohol, our next suspect did exactly the opposite. Despite having serious mental health problems, this granny went off her meds. That decision sent this granny into a spiral of delusion and erratic behavior. It was New Year's Eve 2023, and her daughter had no choice but to call for help. Hi, you called. [snorts] >> What's going on? >> Who is my mom? >> Okay. What's going on? >> Why? >> She's not herself. >> Okay. >> You got to talk to me a little bit, dear. >> I just can't I just can't take people away. taking her meds. >> Okay. >> In a long time, for years, >> and I feel like she going to harm herself. >> Okay. Has she made threats to do so? >> No. [snorts] >> The daughter explained that her mother suffered from bipolar disorder, which was previously known as manic depression. This condition is marked by extreme shifts in mood, energy level, and a person's thinking. When a person with bipolar begins to lose touch with reality, the symptoms can often resemble schizophrenia. >> Pick a fight for my brother. >> Okay. Well, just so you know, I has certain restrictions and laws I have to follow to make sure she goes to the hospital. If she does not meet the criteras, I cannot take her. [snorts] All right. Um, if these here, they also talk to her. They also have different rules, regulations they can follow. If they don't determine that she needs to go medically, then we cannot take her then too. All right. You have a alternative if we cannot take her somewhere. >> She go. >> Okay. Does she drive or walk? >> She walked. >> Okay. From Fur Hill. >> Yes. >> The victim told the medics that that morning her mother showed up unexpectedly and started banging on her door. She then claimed there was a gas leak coming from the stove and called 911 for the fire department. Things like this had happened before and at that point the daughter had had enough. >> Okay. Yeah. >> So, you're saying that cuz you don't want her here like >> she needs to go to the hospital. All right. We'll check her out. [snorts] >> No. >> Hi, dear. >> Bye. >> How are you? >> Uh, don't come talking to me. I'm helping my daughter clean the house. >> Okay. >> Don't even I don't even >> Stop. We're not playing. Stop. STOP. >> ENOUGH. >> DESTINY. >> LET me get >> enough. Get out of here. >> The cops are trained, of course, to handle a very wide range of things. And this one was high risk, and it escalated quickly. After being physically assaulted and sprayed with chemicals, the officer managed to get the suspect down on the floor. But things didn't end there. >> ENOUGH. >> ENOUGH. I'M NOT CHOKING. >> YOU'RE CHOKING ME BECAUSE I'M HELPING MY GET THE OFF OF ME. >> GET OFF OF ME. >> WHAT? >> GET YOUR KNEES OFF OF ME. [screaming] >> [screaming] >> GET YOUR KNEES OFF OF ME. [screaming] >> Get off of me. I can't breathe. >> Get off. >> JULIET, >> THIS IS NOT OVER NOW. >> GET [screaming] OFF. >> Get off of me. >> Nope. >> This is abuse OF POWER. >> OKAY. >> I CAN'T [screaming] BREATHE. GET OFF. GET OFF. >> DON'T BITE ME AGAIN. >> GET THE OFF OF ME. >> DO NOT BITE ME AGAIN. [screaming] >> DO NOT BITE ME AGAIN. >> AS the officer pondered how to remove the woman safely from the bathroom, she began calling out different names from her uncle to God and even her own mother. She was clearly delirious, but the officer was professional and tried to prevent the woman from harming herself or anyone else. Oh my god. [screaming] I got Jack. I GOT JACKIE. I can't. >> I got Jackie. I GOT JACK. I got Jackie. [crying] PLEASE GET OUT OF HERE. OH MY GOD. [screaming] Please get off of me. I don't want to scream WHILE MY GRANDCHILDREN ARE UP THERE. GET [screaming] OFF. At that point, another officer arrived and it was time to figure out how to safely get her out of there without anyone getting hurt. The problem was it was quite a small bathroom and it looked like this woman wasn't going down without a fight. >> Ready to pull her out, sir? >> Yeah, I got her legs. I got her legs. I got KIND OF ROLL OVER. I JUST GOT READY. >> COME ON. TAKE SLOW DOWN. Slow down. >> Slow down. [laughter] Slow down. >> Are you TAKING calm down? Calm down. YOU CALM DOWN. ARE YOU CALMING DOWN? >> STAND UP. OKAY. >> WHY YOU GOT TO BE >> COME ON. STAND UP. STAND UP. STAND UP. STAND UP. STAND UP. Stand up. [screaming] >> Okay. Okay. Come on. Put your hand IN THE BACK. >> [screaming] >> ALL RIGHT, >> WE GOT YOU. WE GOT YOU. >> The suspect, identified as April, was clearly in distress. And while she did have mental health issues, nothing changed the fact that she attacked the officer first. She sprayed him with air freshener and then she punched him. So, the cop had scratches and bruises and also a busted lip. But this is what he got straight in the face with. >> Yeah, he went we went to go talk to her. She came out of the bathroom. >> This ain't [screaming] over. >> Okay. >> All right. We'll let you know before WE LEAVE. IN YOUR damn car. [screaming] [laughter] >> Hey, GMC. >> No, stop touching. >> Yeah, actually sick. >> THIS IS HOW Y'ALL ABUSE YOUR WIFE, HUH? EVENTUALLY, she was secured in the back of a squad car and taken for a medical evaluation in Akran City. Before she left, though, she gave the cop a piece of her mind. And the medics got their share, too, using plenty of profanity. >> Ma'am, I'm going to check you out. Make sure you're all right on EMS. >> Hey. >> Okay. >> Would you let me check you out? >> Okay. Are are you hurting anywhere other than your arms? [screaming] >> Hey, I'll be a mess. I'm just here to check you out and make sure your health is good. >> You go check me out for being a grandma >> because [screaming] [laughter] I understand, ma'am. I I I I don't know that stuff, but I can take your blood pressure. >> I can make sure your blood pressure and uh Okay. >> All right. I'll leave you alone. Okay. Take a half a pig slipper. >> The cops talked to her son and learned that April had been treated at St. Thomas's Hospital. By the time they got there, the old lady had calmed down a bit. She looked defeated and showed no interest in making statements or helping the cops whatsoever. >> All right, I have to investigate. I'm Sergeant Davis. This is just my camera holding it down here. We have to do this to be fair. and I'd like to get your statement about what happened with the officer. >> I don't even know what I don't know what you're talking about. >> I mean, my >> I don't even know why I'm here. >> What's your name, dear? >> My name is April Christian. >> And I know it's not a good day for you so far, but we're hoping it'll get better. Okay. >> I didn't say it wasn't good. >> I Well, good day. >> Well, you're sitting back here, so it's probably you've had better days. Um, I just I'm I'm Sergeant Davis, Akam PD, and I'm investigating a use of force. by the officers. They had to, you know, tussle with you or whatever happened >> and I just wanted to get your version of what happened. >> I don't know [laughter] what to say. I don't know what to say. >> I don't know what to say. >> She was clearly confused and didn't understand that this was her chance to tell her side of the story on record. She really didn't trust the cops. But it wasn't just them. She didn't trust the doctors either. >> I think you're going to have a doctor talk to you. >> NO, DOCTOR. WAIT, WHAT? HE GOING TO DO PRESCRIBE ME A prescription on how to talk to HOW TO TALK LIKE A GRANDMA >> AND A mama or how to talk to the big bad wolf. >> All right. >> All right. Well, you said you you really weren't cooperative. >> Well, I wasn't cooperative. I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE talking about. How do I >> trying to figure out >> I don't know what you're talking about. Don't ask me else if you take me to court and when we decide what I want to tell you. >> Okay. All right. Well, you >> you take me TO COURT FOR BEING A GRANDMA. It ain't going to stop me from being a grandma. >> Of course not. >> For her safety and the safety of everyone else involved, they wheeled April into the hospital where they restrained her arms and legs. But sadly for them, they could not restrain her mouth. They eventually charged her with aggravated assault. assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence. Sadly, when people get old, they often face mental health issues. But in Illinois, a grandmother decided to call the cops on her own grandson for assaulting her with lemonade. When the cops arrived, they immediately smelled alcohol on her, and it quickly became clear that there was more to the story than she let on. >> Yes, ma'am. Did you call us? >> I called. >> Okay. What happened? >> His usual. >> What's his usual? >> His throwing fits [music] through all of his breakage across his across to me. I mean, his normal throwing fits. Kitty. I have not filed any charges against him because I'm trying to get him into residential. It's a freaking red flag. [music] >> What's a red flag? >> Putting them if they get charged. >> Who does any assault [music] him? >> Okay. residential will put a flag on him and it's harder to get him in. I've been trying over nine months. >> All right. Well, you we're we're jumping ahead here. >> Well, then you asked me what's going on. >> I need to know what happened now. Just now. Why are we getting called here? >> Oh, cuz he went ballistic in my car again. You want to come see all the lemonade he threw? >> Okay. >> The lemonade. So, why where what happened? You went to Culver's. >> No, I picked him up. We had a >> apparently it was her belief that kids having temper tantrums should be arrested and taken to jail or at the very least confined in an institution. But if that was the case, the jails would be overflowing. Here's how she tried to explain the events that unfolded that day. >> He had his cross country today. So [music] this morning I got him up. When I got there, he like blew me off like I didn't even exist cuz we had a lot of problems. >> Okay. >> I'm 70. I just retired. I've been [music] a critical care nurse. I don't need to do this. I've had you since 2018. I'm trying to help you. And I'm concerned [music] he might do something to himself. That's how bad his self treatment is. >> Is he diagnosed anything? >> Oh, yeah. He's got um disregulated anger management issues, uh personality issues, ADHD. He's got all kinds of >> medication. >> Pardon me. >> Yeah. Medication. >> Oh, yeah. He's on all kinds. >> Takes it regularly though. if I don't give them to him, he swear to God, he says, "I wouldn't chase this. [music] Otherwise, you'll report me." See, he's at that age right now where he thinks he's in control. [music] So, because I've been battered so much from him and we're trying to get him into residential and you know, as well as I do, do I have to do this? No. But I do it because I love the kid. [music] >> The granny insisted she loved the boy, but up to that point, all she had done was criticize him. Obviously, the boy did have some challenges, but as far as her complaints went, it sounded more like typical teenage stuff and not so much mental health. The grandmother then said something that completely changed the tone of the conversation. >> You're not going to your practices. You keep telling them that I'm telling you have to leave [music] early for stuff, which is wrong. You're lying to me again. And he got really pissed about that and started mouthing me, calling me a and I did. I reached over to slap me in the face. And you can't tell me you can't do that. >> So where did the you smacked him in the car here or driving or you were driving around the corner? >> You talked to him and then he just took the lemonade and threw it. I said, "You know what? You need to go back to behavior center." So >> did the door hit him? The car hit him? >> Maybe the door might have. I don't know. >> Did he get knocked over? >> No. Did he fall? >> No. >> Okay. Were you drinking? >> No. >> I I honestly smell it. >> I haven't drank anything. Nothing. No. Are you diabetic? >> No. And nothing's wrong with me. >> Inadvertently, she confessed she'd struck her grandson first, and he only threw the lemonade at her afterward. Legally, the throwing could be viewed as self-defense, but hitting a child with mental health issues might be considered a felony. So, the cop kept investigating, trying to determine just how severe the assault was. >> What or the door? >> Oh, [music] you you did this and this and this, and he just carried. >> Did he fall on the ground? >> No, he didn't fall on the ground. He's fine. >> Did he take off running? >> Oh, we took off over here. >> Okay, >> you guys don't do anything. It's not your fault. I get it. It's not your fault. But these kids have nowhere to go. They go to a freaking behavior center. They sit here for 5 to seven days. They shut their out. Maybe a part. >> I don't have the control of what happens outside of my >> I don't like an attitude coming here and trying to look at me like I've done something. [music] No, I haven't. >> Who said you did something? the attitude. >> Who are you're giving me the attitude? >> I don't have an attitude. I am tired of stuff. >> Okay. I'm I'm trying to help you here, ma'am. I'm writing everything down. >> I'm documenting everything that I can. So, you're going to hang out here for a little bit and I'll go chat with going to get >> I'm the one that's going to be someday. >> She said she was worried about her safety and what she'd done was perfectly understandable because her grandson had a history of violent outbursts. However, the cop also assumed she'd been drinking. So, was she really at risk or just blowing this way out of proportion? >> I'd like to Can [music] I not file a charge against >> property damage >> for what? >> My car. >> Your car? >> Mhm. >> Tell me tell me about how this the the thing unfolded again. So, you're in the car >> through the lemonade. >> Okay. >> And then he gets out of the car to get his stuff and my car I rolled back a little bit and he goes, "Why were you backing up?" I didn't want him to get into the [music] back of the car and get the stuff out of it. >> So why did you back up the car? So >> you knew he would have the door open and you backed up the car. >> I went a tiny bit [music] to get him out of the back seat. >> Does that make any sense? >> No. But does he make sense and all the I go through? >> What are you raising your voice to me for? >> You know what? >> I'm asking you a question. >> Okay, I'm done. I want to file a charge against him. >> I'm not filing charges against him. Then I'm just going to call [music] the police and I will talk with them. I'll go down there. >> Well, we're not done with you now. >> What do you need with me? >> By that point, the cop had already talked to the grandson and the kid confirmed that while they argued, she slapped him. In response to being slapped, he threw the lemonade at her and got out of the car. But the granny wasn't done yet. And as he was getting out of the car, she backed it up and hit him with the open door. >> I need to find out more of what happened. >> I told you everything that happened. And why do I have to repeat it? Because your stories are changing. >> No, they're not. >> Yes. You You admitted to backing up into him. >> I I didn't back up into him. He was had the backseat of the car open. I said, "Shut the car door. Get out of there." And he wouldn't. I rolled back a tiny [music] bit. >> The door was open and you started backing up. >> I rolled it a tiny >> and then you ran over his foot. >> I did not run over his foot. >> He has marks on his foot. >> Let me see the foot. >> I have pictures right here. >> Okay. Let me see. >> Let's go back over here. >> Yeah. Let's go over here. I want to see >> here. You want to see? I'll show you. >> Yeah. I want to see the mark. >> So, here is his foot. There is the scrape on his foot. [music] >> That's from track >> and his shoes. >> Well, >> those are from his new shoes he wore. >> And then he has blood on his sock from it. >> Those are from his new shoes that he just >> And his shoe is crushed. >> Those Let me see the crushed shoes >> right there. There's a crease on the shoe right there. She continued to deny everything he said, even though the evidence clearly backed up his story. As the cop showed her pictures of her grandson's injured foot, he could smell the alcohol coming from her and it was overwhelming. >> Ma'am, how much did you have to drink today? >> I haven't. >> Not a drop. >> No. >> So, if I bring a PBT here, you'll have nothing in your system. >> And I'm not doing with you guys. I'm done. >> I asked if I bring >> I'm done. >> Judy, you can't walk away from me now. >> You know what? I can. You guys have done nothing with him who's abused me over and over. >> I'm dealing with now. You could run your mouth about every other thing that happened. I'm dealing with now. You called me here for now. >> I called you because he's out of control. >> Hey, I'm here. He's not under control. You're the one that's running your mouth. >> Come here. He got out of the car. He went back here. I said, "Get out of the car." And he said, "No, you wasn't even going to go there." And I started to roll back. So I could very well not have hit his foot unless I went back all this way. [music] So that's bull. >> You're telling me I ran over his foot. >> I'm telling you, you run over his foot. >> Does it make sense to back up with somebody? >> He just off. It didn't hurt him. >> At that point, the cop had had enough and decided to administer the breathalyzer. She refused to take it and it only made her look more suspicious. If she really hadn't been drinking that day, why wouldn't she do the test and clear her name? >> Telling me I have to take a blood alcohol. Are you kidding? >> Roll in a machine. Tell me that you got nothing in your system. >> I owe you nothing. >> If you have nothing in your system, >> what I've done? >> No, I don't because I smell it on you. >> You don't smell anything? >> I absolutely do. Ma'am, where are you going? Boy, she is just completely non-compliant. Just pulling right in the garage. Put her in custody. >> All right, let me >> in my garage. >> Come out here. >> I'm not coming. >> Come out here. >> I don't have to. You talk to me. >> LISTEN TO ME NOW. >> I'M TRYING TO TALK TO YOU WHEN YOU'RE ACTING LIKE THIS. >> ARE YOU QUIT? >> Quit running away from me when I'm TRYING TO DO AN INVESTIGATION. >> ANYTHING? HOW DARE YOU TOUCH ME? >> QUIT. NO. >> STAY HERE WHILE I'M DOING THIS. IT'S ALL RECORDED. >> I DON'T CARE. >> DON'T run away FROM ME AGAIN. >> ON ME. I HAVEN'T DONE ONE THING. >> For officers, if you're by yourself, it's always risky to get into a physical confrontation. But in this case, however, it wasn't the cop safety at risk. It was the suspects. The cop had to deescalate and take things slowly to make sure he didn't injure the old lady. Luckily though, his partner was on his way. >> I'm trying to do an investigation. your job. >> I smell alcohol on you. >> I don't care what you >> And I can't confirm this. >> You know what? You touched me again. That's it. >> Ma'am, >> no. >> Your job right now on my property. Get out of my >> You're not going any further. >> I'm going to my house. >> You're staying out here. No, you're staying here. >> How can you tell me I have to stay here? >> Cuz you're in the middle of an investigation. >> I'm not. >> Take a deep breath. >> Where did I get off doing this? >> I don't know if you understand the law that well, ma'am. I do understand, buddy. I don't understand the harassment you're giving me. >> You're not listening to the police right now when we're part of investigation. Do you have police background? >> My husband's in law enforcement. >> Okay, then give her some guidance here because she's not following instructions very well at all. >> Judy, the suspect, eventually agreed to a field sobriety test and she failed it. They arrested the woman for domestic battery and obstruction. At the jail house, instead of blowing into the machine, she sucked into it intentionally and refused to give samples of her blood or urine. Ultimately, she got two counts of domestic battery, a DUI charge, and resisting obstructing an officer. On the 17th of November 2023 in Athens, Georgia, a shoplifting incident occurred at a local dollar store. To everyone's surprise, the suspect was a 64year-old granny. Because she didn't really pose a threat, one of the employees was brave enough to follow her to a Chase bank nearby, but not before the cops were called. >> Right here, ma'am. >> How you doing? >> I'm fine. >> Hey, how you going? >> I'm fine. >> Oh, that's good. >> What are you doing stealing? >> I'm not stealing, >> but apparently. So, >> why? That's what we're [music] calling for. >> No, I brought this stuff in here with me from my girlfriend's house because I'm getting evicted and I swear to God. >> What they're saying? >> What they saying, sir? >> That you stole. >> I haven't stole anything. Ain't in my purse. >> Don't be going through the purse or anything. >> There she is right there. I asked her why she following me. >> Yeah, they said you stole. >> I ain't stole nothing from her. Everything I bought, I buy from from the store, dollar store. I pay for it. >> I haven't stolen none from my Everything I got here, I brought in there. >> You brought in? >> Yes, ma'am. It's on camera. >> The suspect claimed she had receipts for some of the items and said the rest had been given to her by her girlfriend. As she searched for her ID, the employee kept checking her bag out, which frustrated the old lady a great deal. It was one of those situations that could escalate in the blink of an eye. >> I got my stuff at the counter >> and I didn't have my um money. I couldn't find my money, my change from the stuff I just bought. >> And so I told the girl to hold the stuff >> walked out. >> This I came in with. So honey, you can go to Well, I ain't going to set nothing. [music] >> All that's my stuff. >> No, this all the stuff is not your stuff. This is my stuff. All this stuff is my stuff for my dog and my cat. >> Well, and this food here. >> Hold on. Let's just leave that right there. What's your name? >> Terry. That's my debit card. I was going to my bank. >> I was going to my bank right here. Truce. I was going >> to my bank. >> Pulled. I was coming right here. So, I don't know why she followed me. >> You were in her store. >> But I was in her store. I was purchased some toilet paper and some bleach. That's all I need. You got $2. Why didn't you pay for it? >> I was looking for it, ma'am. And I told her I must have left my check. That's what I was looking for. >> You can't take items out. You can't leave. >> These are my stuff. >> The suspect, Terry, kept changing her story. First, she claimed she bought some of the stuff at the store and the rest came from a flea market and her girlfriend. She then changed her story, saying she bought most of it a week earlier. Seeing as the cops weren't buying it, she tried to appeal to their humanity. If that that little dog food you want, ma'am, you can have it. I got bigger problem. I am about ready to get evicted, ma'am. I am don't have time for this, ma'am. I got a dog and a cat that I have to take care. I don't even know where they go. >> Where do you live at? >> I can prove it to you. If you think I'm lying, here it is right here. I'm trying to get these dogs and cats a place to live. I am getting evicted. I've already been evicted. They they couldn't throw my stuff out today. >> [music] >> I'm trying to get some trying to get this stuff together so I can find a place for that dog to protect cuz I don't even have a place to want to prosecute. >> Prosecute for what? >> I haven't stole anything. >> All this stuff is there. >> No, it's not. I bought this stuff. >> You have If you have If you just bought this stuff. >> No, I didn't buy this stuff today. >> What? >> So why was it JUST AROUND? >> BECAUSE I PICKED IT UP at my girlfriend. I went to my girlfriend. >> The cameras are going to show you walk into the store with that stuff. >> Yes, I had the bags. >> I swear to God. >> I swear to God. >> She denied stealing anything, but the employee said she was walking behind her and saw her taking the items without paying. Seconds later, things got even worse for her when dispatch notified the officers that she had an active warrant out of Wisconsin. >> From Wisconsin. >> Wisconsin, honey. I I don't never been to West. They've been had that stuff on me for the long. That's been like in 80s some. I never live in the West. I >> You put your mail back in your bag. >> Let me get my receipts for my stuff. >> Yeah, your receipts are one thing, but put your mail somewhere else. >> Okay. >> All right, girl. You want to take a ride with me real quick? >> No, we're going to go back to the store. >> Take your first off. >> There you go. Put your hands behind your back, please. >> It's okay. We'll deal with those papers later. >> No, I'm >> All right, we'll put it in your bag. >> Pick up. Pick up the car. Not that stuff, ma'am. >> This is my phone. >> Pick up the car. >> This stuff. >> Is that your phone, ma'am? I just >> It was heartbreaking to watch a 64 year old woman gathering her belongings up from the street. Most likely the cops probably felt bad for her, but it didn't change the fact that she'd broken the law. Justice is supposed to be blind, and you can't excuse such criminal behavior because of anyone's age or financial circumstance. I have a receipt for that. >> 2374. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> All right. Let's get your stuff. >> Going to go in my car. We're going to go over. >> What store? Walgreens. >> Dollar General. >> Dollar Tree. >> Dollar Tree. Oh, it's Dollar Tree, not Dollar General. >> I'm head back over there and I'll start scanning. >> Okay. Thank you. Be careful crossing the street. >> Is that all your stuff right there? >> Is that your stuff? >> This all my stuff in the car? >> No, the um stuff that is at the front door. >> What's at the front door? >> What are you talking about? >> Talking about stuff. You're not coming out. >> What stuff? >> That grocery cart suitcase all yours? >> No. No, that's not my stuff. >> Okay. Just making sure it's not yours. >> No, that was there when I walked up. >> Okay. Just making sure. The young female officer consulted with her colleague, talking about the suspect's background and what [music] steps to take next. As things turned out, the suspect, Terry, had at least three prior convictions. All in all, things weren't looking good for her at all. >> They want to prosecute you. So, what? >> Shoplifting. >> But I brought that stuff in here. I can prove it. >> They have cameras proving otherwise. >> No, they don't not. They can see my bags in those carts, sir. My bags, Walgreens bags, and stuff are in the cart. I'm telling you it is. I put it in there. I found the cart outside right there where them suitcases. >> Okay. Well, you know they have cameras facing the aisles, right? >> Yeah, I know that. >> Okay. Well, so they caught you putting things in the bag. >> It's something that you bought from this store. >> It will mark it as already purchased. It doesn't just can't just bring something back in. >> Did you and you ran the thing to make Okay. Do you uh All right. You want her barred? H. >> We got to borrow her from the property at >> What is it? >> Warn her from >> You bar from the property for two years. >> Yes. [music] >> All right. So, if you come back, that's criminal trespass. You'll go straight to jail. >> Yes. And that's from the whole property. The whole shopping center. >> That's from the whole shopping center. Okay. >> Okay. >> If she had one redeeming quality, it was her demeanor, which was calm and composed. She might not have been the wildest criminal granny, but she was certainly a seasoned one. She didn't escalate things or act aggressively. She just took it in stride. However, her criminal history told a different story. >> No. >> 2388. That criminal history is on the F. >> Thank you. That's by shoplifting. Guilty convicted. >> Woo. Aggravated assault. You got to get out of the crime, girl. I'm looking at your your history. You've been convicted of a lot of things. You need to be careful. Three convictions [music] of a theft or like shoplifting, you know, is a felony. Yeah. [music] So, that's prison time. All right. So, you got to chill it with the crime. Look, there's a lot of resources in Athens, but you got to get out of the crime and stealing cuz you're like you're just putting yourself in a worse situation, right? [music] I'm not saying like life is not fair to you cuz it's not and you deserve better. [music] But you got to find a new outlet to to getting things because stealing, >> you know, I work for a living. I I work for a living. >> As far as the female officer went, she might have appeared inexperienced due to how old she was and her fragile disposition, but she was about to reveal another side of herself. In approaching the suspect, she first tried to have a friendly conversation with her, then tried to counsel her some. And as things turned out, this young officer had plenty of experience with the homeless. I use food and stuff. >> You know, you can go to Sparrow's Nest. [music] >> You get food every day there except for Thursdays? Yep. I work there. >> Uh-huh. >> Every Thursday. >> It's not open every Thursday, but all the other days it's open. So, go to Sparrow's Nest. Stop stealing. Go to Sparrow's Nest. They'll give you snacks, hygiene. They'll give you food. If you get convicted of this, this is your last like one. Okay? That's a misdemeanor. It's after that $1 felony. >> Okay. >> All right. Look at Sparrow Nest. Okay. It's on Prince Avenue >> and they will help you out like big time. They will help you. Well, look, you're not being arrested. All right. I'm about to come out, [music] take you out of handcuffs, >> but you just got to be careful with the stealing cuz you're on your last Okay, good. Good. You're on your last straw. >> They didn't arrest Terry, but she did get a ticket. The dollar store wanted to prosecute and she was given a court date. Let's hope she listened to the officer's advice and mended her ways. On February 5th, 2024, on a sunny afternoon in St. Petersburg, Florida, an elderly woman had a sudden fit of road rage against a cyclist who happened to be deaf. >> [screaming] >> jail [laughter] >> and he's >> I seen him tap her CAR AND LIKE YEAH, she was IN A BAG AND YOU KNOW WHAT SHE did that >> Did you guys witness this? >> Can you guys just hang out for me? We got to hurry and go. But we'll call >> him. >> She been hitting that man. >> Clearly emotions were running high here. And how would they not be? According to witnesses, a man was cycling down the street when he was engaged in a dispute with Cynthia Min. Moments later, she intentionally swerved her vehicle into him. After separating the witnesses, the cop was finally able to get the story uninterrupted. One of the thing I seen was the man, he was coming down nice street. She was right next, he was in the back lane. She was over like this. She had already hit him one time in front of the uh the thing down >> 9th and 12th. That's where she started hitting him from. >> Okay. >> Yes. So when he was coming this way, he's deaf. He can't hear. So when she got up there, she speeded up and hit that man. Which one? >> Uh the lady up there help with the braids. >> All right. Thank you. You're good to go. I appreciate all your help. So you said it started right down here at the >> It started way down there in front of the crowd market >> right here on 12th and Ninth Street. >> Okay. All right. And she How many times did you see her hitting? >> Um the first time she was he was just she was just like tapping. >> Uhhuh. >> Then by the time he tried to get away, she sped up, came back. Well, he got by right there. She was tapping it. That she go right there on the pole down there. Okay. >> The last lady with them braids on. >> Okay. >> Right there. The blue shirt right there. >> Did you think this was intentional? >> Yeah, that was intentional. >> Okay. >> She sped up and hit him when she got right here. >> Okay. >> While the cops talk to witnesses, medics attended to the victim. Imagine being deaf and unable to hear what's coming. And then you're hit by a car. In addition to psychological trauma, this poor guy also got a broken ankle. >> What's injuries right now? Well, that's what the other people say that that that she >> and they told me I tried to BRING THAT MAN DOWN. I DIDN'T. I WAS TRYING TO, YOU KNOW, get his attention to pull over so I CAN CALL YOU GUYS. They were both going back and forth and she thought was swerving over Georgia to try, I guess, detering him, scaring him, whatever. And I the last time they were playing games with each other and stuff like that last night, she came all the [music] way over. >> The man stated that before the accident happened, the lady in the car and the cyclist were going back and forth for about 2 minutes. Then another witness stepped forth saying pretty much the same thing. >> What did you see happen? >> I saw he was they were all the way down there. They were I don't know what was going on. I think they were pulling back at it back and forth. I saw she kept trying to hit him on on this side of the lane and he came back. He >> when she was trying to hit him, what was she doing? >> Like what did it look like? >> Was she just [music] trying to like swerve at him? >> Yeah. >> But then she actually hit him. I think that's what she was trying to do. How many times did that happen? >> About like seven, eight times I saw >> and then she finally hit him. >> Yeah. >> There was no question the suspect hit the victim as it was indisputable. The real unknown though was the woman's intent. While the witnesses claimed she deliberately targeted the man, the suspect denied it. >> Cynthia. >> Cynthia. Okay. >> Cynthia. >> Cynthia. Okay. My name is Officer Duncan. I'm primary officer on this. Okay. We have completed our crash portion of this investigation. Okay. We're starting a criminal investigation now. Before I ask you some questions, I want to read your Miranda rights just so you know your rights. Okay. >> Okay. >> You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can or be used is against you in the court of law. Do you understand each of these rights I explained to you? >> I think so. >> How many of these rights are mine? Do you wish to talk to us now? >> Yes. I'll tell you exactly what happened. I would >> So what happened? >> I was neighbor. I'm coming up to [music] go left on Ninth Street. All of a sudden. >> So you were trying to go south? >> I was trying to go. >> Yeah. But I was coming up the hill. >> Okay. >> And I never seen a gentleman tell somebody to kick my car. >> Okay. >> And I'm like trying to stop him. Why did you kick my car? Why did you kick my car? And the gentleman just kept driving. I mean, he just kept riding around. And I'm trying to, you know, stop him and get his attention and everything, you know, trying to take a picture. >> According to Cynthia, the cyclist was the aggressor. Even if that was true, it's still no excuse. This elderly lady tried to stop a cyclist while holding a phone in one hand, taking a photograph, and calling 911 all at the same time. >> That's how that's how far I have been. Trying to say, "Hey, hey, pull over. Pull over." And I'm trying TO CALL YOU GUYS. >> OKAY. And then what happened? You just followed. >> I tried to stop him. I didn't know the gentleman was deaf, you know. I'm still trying to take a picture. Started trying TO LIKE, "HEY, HEY, HEY, you know, are you gonna stop? Why you gonna stop?" >> Okay. You know, because you know >> So, did you ever like [music] you was like speeding up trying to catch him? >> No, sir. I wasn't trying to catch him. I I'M TRYING MORE OR LESS TO get a picture and trying to call 911 trying to get the gentleman to pull over, sir. >> Okay. Did you ever intentionally like swerve to hit him, right? >> No, sir. >> So, what? He was coming right here and then how did how did the collision between you two? >> I have no idea, sir. I'm I'm trying to keep my eye on the road and and call 911 when at the same time I I really couldn't save. >> The granny tried to paint this thing. That's just an unfortunate accident. However, doing acrobatics with a phone while driving is clearly illegal. They asked the woman where he was riding whether the sidewalk, a bike path, or the open road, and she couldn't say. So, that was proof that she wasn't paying attention. >> So, you don't know whether he was in the bike lane, the sidewalk, or the road? >> No sir, I don't. Okay. because I'm trying to keep an eye out, you know, trying to get people culture [music] to be honest, sir. >> Okay. And you don't know how you ended up making contact with him at the >> No, sir, I don't. Probably just got to be honest. No, sir, I don't because at the same time, I'm still trying to call 911 trying to take pictures. I have a picture in my phone that shows I'm just trying to get a definidence of this rider or whoever it was that kicked my car. you know. >> Okay. >> I wasn't trying to win that gentleman over >> or even, you know, hit his bike. >> He called 911. >> I was trying to I was trying to call 911 as well. >> It didn't matter what the woman said as there were multiple witnesses and the evidence was overwhelming. Everyone claimed that she intentionally ran the man down and since he had serious injuries, she had to go to jail. Go ahead and put your hands on your back for me. Take this. >> We'll take care of you. All right. >> I'll [music] tell you that in just a second. >> You have anything illegal on you that's not sticky? >> As of right now, you're being charged with aggravated battery. We have multiple witnesses who said that you ran this locker down and you intentionally hit it. Okay. >> No, sir. >> We have abundance of witnesses who said that the same story. All right. So, right now, you're just being charged with aggravated battery. Your car is the car registered to you? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. It's going to be towed and impounded. All right. >> Can my boyfriend come get right up the street? >> Can I lock it up? >> Can I lock up one step at a time? >> Okay. Right. >> They charge the woman with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon causing great bodily harm. Sometimes in court due to a suspect's advanced age, the judge can be lenient. What do you think? Does she deserve a break? On the 29th of April, 2024 in Mount Vernon, a 63-year-old granny got into her vehicle despite being heavily intoxicated. Her neighbors, being very concerned about her, called police and they swiftly responded and found the suspect sitting in her car in the driveway with the engine running. >> Guys, it's the police department and the fire department. You okay? I'm I'm trying to get my I'm trying to get my Are you are you having a any kind of medical issue right now? >> No, I'm not. >> Okay. Can you turn the can you turn the car off for me? >> It's called It's called Get your thing to go go up. >> Can we Can we Can we turn the car off? >> Oh, yes, we can. >> Perfect. Okay. Do you need the premix check on Let's leave the car off. Okay. Have you had anything to drink today? Any drugs or alcohol? >> No, I had a good burger. >> Good burger. >> Okay. >> Yes. >> Before too long, the cop concluded she was definitely drunk. Not only was her speech slurred, but she was having trouble finding words, enunciating them, and even just sitting still. >> Okay. You just did you just get home? >> No, I just got home. >> Okay. Oh, it was just like, oh, I I have a realtor and I got to do all this today and it was not getting work right with the >> You want to talk to RP and see what they saw for for driving? >> No, it it is truly >> it's a it's a fault. >> Can you please hop out and talk to me? I make sure that you're you're okay. >> I'm fine. I'm fine. And I want to go to bed. >> Are you Are you Valerie? >> Yes, I am. >> Valerie, can you uh provide this officer your fob? At least your keys. >> Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. How did you get here? >> We got called because of you. >> Your neighbor saw you stumbling and falling. >> No, I was trying to get into this and this and this and this and this. >> Right now, it's a bad idea. So, how about you provide this officer the keys? >> Phone call. >> Oh. Oh yes. >> The first thing on the officer's minds was getting a hold of her key fob because they knew she was unpredictable and they had to make sure she wouldn't run. But sooner or later, they also had to confront the fact that she was obviously drunk. >> You saying you haven't taken any drugs, any medication, drank any alcohol, nothing like that? >> Oh my god. I have not taken any drugs, any medications. I had a burger tonight. >> Okay. The the reason I'm asking is your speech is extremely slurred while I'm talking to you. >> No. >> Okay. >> I have a firefighter nephew. I just want to go home and go in the garage. >> Okay. Can I get Can I get the key fob? >> No, you cannot. >> Okay. Go ahead and step out of the car. >> No. >> Valerie, step out of the car. >> No. >> Okay. >> Oh god. you. >> As far as that key fob went, she refused to hand it over because she knew what they were doing. At that point, the cops had every right to pull her right out of the vehicle. But they also understood she was a drunk old lady and therefore they tried a different approach. >> Are you willing to do a standardized field sobriety test? >> No, no, no, no, >> no. Oh, and what's funny is because I did have years ago. >> Years ago. >> Oh. Oh, God. >> Are you willing to do a preliminary breath test so I can make you see if you have anything to drink today? >> No. No. No. No. I I have to explain this to you. >> Okay. Well, hop on the car and explain to me. Okay. >> No. I'm trying to explain it to you, but at the same time because I have tapped dance, >> okay? >> And there was years ago I actually had a head injury. >> Here on the Hidden Files, we cover lots of DUI cases, but there's rarely a suspect as inebriated as Valerie. She was barely able to stand or even walk. She began explaining something about neurology and how she couldn't do the field sobriety test, presumably due to an old injury. But at that point, the cops had seen enough. >> Feel to feel toe toe. It happened. >> Ready? Okay. So, Valerie, right now you're under arrest. Go ahead and put your hands on your back. >> Let go. Let go. Let go. Valerie, >> stop. Stop. Under. >> You are under arrest. I do not want to force put you in cuffs. Just relax your arms. Okay. >> Right now, you're being audio video recorded. So, looser. Just >> I'm under. >> Okay. >> Okay. Stop. That means you can't You're not free to go. >> I have actually. >> If you keep pulling, you can get more charges for resisting. You're not free anymore. Okay, you're in our custody. So, please allow this officer to continue with what he's doing. >> I want to make sure I can double lock these and check the fit. So, don't touch your remote. >> Oh my god. >> No. This this I I need to >> The officers did a preliminary search on her and in her view, it wasn't a pleasant experience. But like a veteran wild granny, she couldn't let it slide and gave them all a piece of her mind. You want to try to keep in the car? >> No. You guys have hurt me. >> Okay. Walk into my arm. >> You're No, you're hurting my hand. >> You're hurting my arm. >> Valerie, just hang tight for me. >> That That'd be great. Yeah. >> No, >> just hang tight here for a minute. Okay. >> No. Seriously, this is hurting my arm. What? What the hell? >> Come on. Face in the back of my car. >> No. >> That's what under arrest means, Valerie. >> Well, it's fine. It's really >> Watch your step. Watch your step. Watch your head. Watch your knees. Okay. >> And can I >> Vanessie, >> please step inside the the car, Valerie, please. >> Oh. Oh, God damn it. God damn it. This is hurting my arms. >> She didn't want to sit in the car and was clearly unhappy about it. Her wrists were hurting and she knew that sitting down would be even more unpleasant. >> Have a seat. Have a seat. Come with me, Valerie. >> Oh, no. No, no, no. I was bring your feet in. Seriously, Valerie, have a seat in the car. >> Your feet in. >> No. >> If you refuse to sit in the car, that's more charges. I don't want to. Yes, it is. It's not about I'm giving you a law that sit in the car. >> Actually, my wrists are being hurt. >> Although, you like this. >> Don't rotate him in the handcuffs. That's all I'm talking about. >> And can I And can I get them? >> No, I cannot >> have a seat in the car. No, I could not have a seat in the car because >> if you do not sit in the car, you're going to get charged for obstruction. I don't want to do that. So, sit in the car. >> No, I'm trying to do what you instruct, >> and I'm not being allowed. >> At some point during the arrest, Valerie's son stepped out, so the cops filled him in. Strangely, he didn't seem that surprised or worried at all. Shortly after his mom was taken to jail and the entire ordeal continued for both her and the officers. >> So why don't you get out and bring you back into there? I'll take the handcuffs. Let me sit in the chair. >> No, no, no, no. >> So I need you for me take out the handcuffs. I need you to cooperate with me. Okay. So let's head on in. Let's head inside. >> No, >> no. >> This [snorts] is Okay, fine. >> Can you step out of the car? >> Oh, I actually do not know what you mean. >> Very, I need you to step out of the car. I trying. >> Okay, I I appreciate that >> cuz it is Oh god, these things >> hurt. Okay, well we we'll come off here in just a minute. Okay, let's walk inside. >> Well into the booking process, the whole back and forth continued. When she was asked to sign statements, Valerie said she couldn't because she'd forgotten her glasses. They eventually took her to get her blood drawn, and she was later charged with DUI and resisting arrest. That wraps up our list of these very wild granny's facing off with the police.
