Rookie cops often make the mistake of making up their laws while encountering suspects. But what happens when rookie cops are caught on body cam imposing their own laws on innocents? Here are three different cases of rookie cops who tried imposing their own laws on public property. Bro, why don't you know the first amendment? Sidewalk. Why don't you know the first amendment? Say we're on your property still. If you guys want to leave, you hurt my arm, bro. You hurt my arm. I'm going to file lawsuit against sidewalk. And you're saying we're on your property. Let you go. I want to file a lawsuit. All you guys are going to be in court with me and I need that other officer is his I need his badge number as well. This is Deputy Moreno with the Kern County Sheriff's Office. In April 2018, a First Amendment auditor who goes by the name of Sanwaqin Valley Transparency uploaded this interaction on YouTube whereby the auditors were trying to film in a jury service office. The supervisor called the police and this is when officer Moreno gets there. here taping. I'm asking them to shut the cameras off and I'm happy to answer their questions. They're refusing to turn those cameras off. Okay. How's it going, boss? Can you guys set us? I just have a question. Um, is this public accessible in here? It's not public accessible. It's so without the camera, can I come inside here and ask questions? I'm going to come back in if he's wrong. He's not wrong. Okay. So, is this area is this area public accessible? No. For the public? For the public? Yes. Okay, then. That's all I need to know. That's all we need to know. That's all I need to know. That's all I need to know. It's It's open to the public. But the cameras, no. You want to walk in? Yes. But Okay. So, you understand? No, we don't understand because if it's publicly accessible, we're allowed to go in and film in any corridor services because because why? There's private information there. So if you walk in there, people are getting selected for a jury trial, right? Right. Yeah. The officer not only asks the auditors to not film in the public area, but they also threaten them with trespassing if they continue to film. It is mind-boggling to see the high-handedness of public servants who are being paid with taxpayer dollars. I'll tell you what you're going to do. Oh, you're going to tell me what I'm You're If you want to call your attorney, go ahead. We're going to call. All you're going to do is not listen to what I'm saying. Okay. Do I have to listen to what you You're my boss. You're my dad. Are you putting on your taxes? No. If you want to go in there. No. No. No. He's not I'm not going to be talked to like that. Sir, you walk in there. You're No, don't don't talk to me in my ear like that. What? Dude, do you want Dude, he can't touch me. He can't touch me. He can't touch me like that. We're giving you a choice. Record this. All right. Uh-huh. You cannot record in there. Okay. If you record in there, you will be arrested. Do you understand? Yes. Well, I understand, man. But I'm already outside, dude. Look at this. I'm already outside and he's twisting my hand here. Dude, don't twist my arm like that. Dude, you're hurting me. Please. You're hurting me. Look, I'm not I'm not Well, the story is right now on how public Dude, you're hurting me. Please let go a little bit. a first amendment. Dude, I'm hearing a peaceful protest, bro. And you're going to be That is not public. He said, bro, you guys said public. He said it's public. accessible to public. He says it'sible to the public, but without a camera. That's what he said. Giving me issues trying to go. You guys want to go in there and talk, that's fine. You guys cannot go in there and film. If you guys want to film out there, you're hurting me, bro. There's no need. That's fine. We won't stop you from filming out here. Deputy Moreno also physically assaults the auditor who was recording this interaction. The sense of entitlement of some of these officers is truly a shame. The other officers who get there also aid and abet their fellow criminal in uniform and flaunt their authority by threatening arrest. Are you guys going to leave? He just told you. I just told you I would, man. Yes or no? He just told you that right now. Yes. Is that a yes or a no from you? Yes. From you though? I'm asking from you? Yeah. Yes. Dude, he already answered you, bro. Spell it out. Okay. Moreno. Okay. Hey, and what what's your what's what's do you have a card? I need I need a card from every single one of you guys, man. Cards. Our department doesn't issue them to us. Okay. Walters badge number what? 863. 863. Like I told you, you guys are welcome to come in here. It is accessible to the public. Just nobody cams on you guys. Do you see anything? I'm off the property now. I'm on public. Now I'm on public, bro. I'm on public property, bro. Why don't you know the first amendment, man? Sidewalk. Why don't you know the first amendment? Say we're on your property still. If you guys want one of these, you hurt my arm, bro. You hurt my arm. I'm going to file a lawsuit against you. Sidewalk and you're saying we're on your property. Let you go. I want to file. All you guys are going to be in court with me and I need that other officer his I need his badge number as well. It is unclear if the auditors went on to file a lawsuit or not, but they surely stood up for their rights, educated citizens about their freedom, and exposed these tyrant cops. Where's our commanding officer? Where's our commanding officer? Where is your command? Don't pull away from me. Where is your command officer? Stop pulling away. Stop pulling away. Where is your command officer? These are officers Zachary Lusian and Laria Spartza of the Pasadena Police Department who are beating suspect Christopher Balu black and blue. On the 11th of November 2017, two officers from the Pasadena Police Department stopped Christopher Balu after he was found driving with tinted windows and a missing front license plate. The officers decided to conduct a patown search even though none of them informed Balu that they intended to do so. After Baloo resisted the arrest, the officers showed no restraint and became extremely aggressive. [Applause] I would drive my car. I just saw him get out of the car. Yeah. Get out of here, dude. I'm going put it out real quick. S95 traffic. Better stop act like a dummy, dude. What? The Woodbury and Fair Oaks. Give me your hand. All right. Give me your hand right now. Where's your commanding officer? Pull away from me. Where is the commander? Stop pulling away. Stop pulling away. Where is the command locker here? He has the cuts. He won't give me his hands. I'm just trying to go home, bro. Come on, man. Still fight. What are you doing, bro? Come on, bro. I didn't even do anything, bro. Come on, man. Despite Belalu's repeated requests to the officers to stop the onslaught, the officers continue to pin him down while simultaneously trying to put him in handcuffs. Come on, bro. I didn't do nothing to you. I didn't do Come on, bro. Look at me. What the this handcuffs? Come on, bro. I don't do anything to you guys. I'm already put over getting gas. What are y'all doing? Y assaulting me, bro. I don't know nothing to get you down. I'm not doing nothing. I'm not doing nothing, man. All gas. I'm about to go home. Can you get all I do is try to get gas. Christopher Balow is seen with eyes full of blood and a broken leg. But the officers pay no heed to his condition and keep him pinned to the ground. Bro, I got blood in my eyes. I have blood in my eyes. I have blood in my eyes. you up there. I have blood in my eyes, man. What are y'all doing? I'm good. You're not doing the right thing right now. Y'all are not doing the right stuff. I'm not doing anything wrong. I'm right here, guys. I'm trying to go to work right now, man. Take a breather, bro. I'm not doing the right thing. You're not doing the right. The officers then take Value to the police vehicle and transport him to jail. I don't know. I don't remember. He just hit me. [Applause] Nothing. Huh? [Applause] [Music] God damn it. here. [Applause] [Applause] You going to ask for medication? One of us. Yeah. [Applause] All that uh secondary, man. How much weed is in the car? Uh yeah, we can swap. I don't know how much you got, bro. He also got the liquid THC. So Balu was initially transported to Huntington Hospital in Pasadena where he received limited treatment and was interviewed again by another police officer. After the body cam footage of this arrest surfaced, Balu took the Pasadena Police Department to court and ended up being awarded a $3.2 million compensation for the unnecessary assault he had to face. Two rookie cops cost the taxpayers $3.2 million after they were found imposing their own laws. But if you think officers Zachary Lugan and Larry Esparza crossed their constitutional limits, you'll be shocked to see what this next offduty cop did. Put the gun down. Put the gun down. This is Antoine Tolbert who on the 23rd of May 2023 was arrested by officers of the Cleveland Police Department for openly carrying a firearm. The officers were heard saying you can't carry the gun like that. Despite Ohio being an open carry state where it's always been legal to carry a firearm as long as it's not concealed by clothing. Be advised, it's a open carry, but he can't walk down the street with the gun in his hand. Try reasoning with him. Please just continue to walk. Try to get these other cars off the street. Try to back them up. And the zone car is down there. We're going to have to uh intervene here. All right. Sir, stop. I'm Sergeant Henderson with the Cleveland Police Department. Sir, stop. It's my duty. That's all I'm doing. This my duty. This my This my community. I ain't seen the police. I ain't seen you all out here. Yes, I can. I have the right to bear arms. Yes, sir. Not like that. You don't. Come on, man. Not like that. You don't firearms. The shotgun. Not like that. You don't. for the car. The holster is fine and your hand down the street is not. Yeah. Okay. Listen, y'all should have been there. That was hours ago. That was hours ago. Hours ago. You have information about I was a ghost. I was a ghost. So I don't Okay. Put him in the gun. Trying to investigate this. Yeah. And I got the right to protect my community. And guess what? This my phone, man. You rather you break it or not. You can't walk down the street with no gun in your hand like that. Hey, a baby got killed last night. Not my fault. I ain't got you. law enforcement officers. That's perfect. That's perfect. Happy birthday. Good job. Good day. Cuz he can't standing. No. Who's the primary though? Seriously. I see four and a2. Okay. It's going to He's in the back of my car. We got run the guns, but it's going to be uh improper handling of a firearm. It'll be in your He can't walk down the street with a firearm. I copy. All right. A holster is one thing. Walking down the street with a firearm in his hand. Can't can't do that. Got it. All right. Good job, man. It doesn't have to be It doesn't have to be hand on the trigger. or nothing like that. All right. Hold that for me. So once we get get that, it'll just be that. All right. But um yeah, fire. All right. It can be seen that officers in a total of eight police cars responded to the scene from multiple districts, including gang units and a K9. They also requested assistance from a police helicopter. Once Anthony Tolbert was placed under arrest, the officers begin to inquire why he was carrying an open firearm. So, do you mind if I put homeless? You're not going to disclose it? Yes, sir. That's fine. Just did a little haircut. Correct. So, once again, you can you you have a right to open carry. Wait, don't put home cuz I'm not homeless. Just putis I can't those are the only choices I have. I can't I can't I can't put a madeup address and I can't just put undisclosed. It's either that or because of the if the firearm is registered to you, it probably has a address on there. Yeah. Yes, ma'am. I'm good, Queen. We know the law. We know. Come on now. You already know. Listen. Listen. We got baby killer. It got Come on, man. All right. Better than y'all. A baby got killed last night. I know. And they shot at my nephew shot on. That's why I'm out here. That's why I'm out here. The flow cars behind you trying to drive. I'd like to get a guard. So, like I was saying is you do have a right to open carry, but you cannot walk down the street with a gun in your hand like that. That's where the improper handling and do panic because even though people have a right to carry, people don't call the police when people with a gun. Yeah, those chopped up charges are not going to stick. So, that's fine. But understand, I do armed community patrols on a weekly basis in the city of Cleveland. If you're walking down the street with a gun, police control in your hand and and people call the police and we see you like we did today, you will be arrested. Okay? Listen, I've been doing this for six years, sir. Okay? And have not been arrested by the police carrying the same two firearms. Okay? I have not had an issue with police trying to arrest or detain and these are trumped up charges. So, I'm okay. I'm ready. Mr. going to be 395. He he he under arrest though. Uh Councilman Tolbert was then arrested but released only after one night in jail. He was not indicted and all charges were eventually dropped. However, when the videos of him being arrested resurfaced, Tolbert ended up losing his job and had to move out of his house. Tolbert then sued the police department for a wrongful arrest. Recently, the city of Cleveland has settled a federal lawsuit filed by Antoine Tolbert. Tolbert and his attorney are receiving $85,000 from the city and at least a partial apology. It is horrifying to see Rookie and even some veteran cops acting all powerful, but it's good to know that most of these cops were prosecuted for their misdeeds.
