What the >> 16 to 21? Are you 10 two in there? I'm going to talk to the daughters out here. >> 911. I'm this I'm the older sister. >> Are you okay? >> Yes. I I My mom says she's on the way home. Um I really don't know what's going on. I was just told I need to come here. >> Okay. You said that they were getting abused. >> Uh that's what I was told. I don't know the length or the full length of this. >> Okay. What were you told about them getting? >> Um my sister messaged me. She said, "I need help. I need help. Things are getting scared. I'm scared." I said, "What's going on?" And she goes, "I think Shane's been drinking and things are getting." But she said she'll explain later. She didn't. >> Are you the little sister that told her to call 911? >> It's okay. >> What was the even What? Like, why won't anybody tell me what the problem was to begin with? >> Look at me, please. >> Man, please >> look at me. Manto man, tell me what the No, you didn't tell me. Will you at least tell me like what I said or what I did? >> Please. That's all I'm asking. >> I'm not investigating us. I'm not >> No, please just tell me what I said or what I did. >> Let the officers that are handling this case talk to you about it. Okay. >> You stay in there with him. >> He's He sent me to grab an evidence bag. He's good with him. He's going >> What's What happened? >> Okay. So, our stepdad has like >> That's him. >> Yeah, that's our stepdad. So, he has like I don't know mental issues and stuff, but uh he's not supposed to have liquor at all or like booze or anything cuz it makes him really mean. And I started noticing something like he was starting with the kids and I can hear it outside my door. He kept slapping over and over again. Was the youngest and he was like, "Ow, daddy. Ow." And then he just has this really go poop and you can hear him like, >> "Can you 10 nine that you're 101?" But he just kept like grabbing him and like I peakedked out even. He just kept like squeezing him and throwing him like all over in the bathroom. And I was like, "This is not good." And then I went out and grabbed my little sister cuz I heard her crying too. And >> I was asking why she was crying. She's like, "I don't know. Daddy threw stuff at me for no reason." And then so I picked her up and I went in my room and he comes barging in. He's like, "Why the do you think?" Sorry. Excuse my language. >> No, you don't even feel bad about that. You can swear around me all that you need to. Okay, >> I'm sorry. But >> um and then we get into my room and he comes barging in. He was like, "Come with me right now." And I'm like, "Why does she need to do that? You're hurting them." And she was like, "I don't care. You're not the boss of them." And then he takes her and he slams my shin. He's like, "She's the boss of me. I'm going to hurt her mom and um her when whatever they get home and stuff." And I was like, "This is not good." And this has happened before in like in a couple years. >> Yep. We're good. Thanks. >> Couple years ago. And um my stepdad actually got my mom. Yeah. But that's what he said. And I was scared and I'm like, I don't want my mom coming home and everything. And just like >> Where's your mom right now? >> Uh she's at work. She works. >> You are very brave. Okay. You are extremely brave and I am proud. You don't know me, but I am very freaking proud of you for doing that. Okay. >> I'm sorry. I didn't know if it was snowing or not. >> Oh no, it's raining. It's just raining. I am so proud of you for doing that. Not only for your safety, but your siblings safety. Okay, >> let me let me explain it to you. I don't want to be interrupted. All right, we got a call. >> What did I do? >> That you were being physically de. We announced police department and you come down and you get very verbally aggressive with us. Then when we asked you to step outside, you started posturing up against us. Okay. So that's why we took the measures we did. All right. >> I didn't understand why there were people coming to my door attacking me. That's why you attacked back. Like come on, guys. Like if somebody came to your door and you weren't sure what the hell they were trying to do, you would just be like, "Okay, guys." Yeah. You wouldn't fight back. Look at me, guys. Like, seriously. >> You gave me your statement out. >> No, sir. Like, I was asking you when you had your eyes down. I'm like, I'm asking you to look at me like a man. Like, what the would you do if you didn't understand exactly what the hell was going on? >> Well, that's what we were trying to do. We were trying to explain what the hell was going on. >> And we wanted to talk to you outside, not in front of your kids, >> but then you started yelling at us. Okay. And that made things worse. >> That's >> all right. So, when we wanted to talk outside, that was an option you had. I'm not saying that's right, but guys, come on. Like, you know how to deescalate situations. You know how to not escalate situations. >> All right. >> Come on, guys. Come on. >> What' you say your name was? Shane, >> did I hear that right? >> You know how to deescalate situations. This is not a way to deescalate situations with somebody that may or may not be me mentally impaired. Like, guys, you >> have you been drinking tonight? Listen to me, please. >> Please. >> I'm not a stupid ignorant hick. >> Like, >> well, like I explained, we came in, we announced police department. >> Make me. Okay. >> Outside. >> You got some shoes or something grab for you? >> I say we >> It doesn't matter, man. >> We don't want It's wet outside and everything. Where are your shoes at? I'll grab them for you. >> It doesn't matter, man. >> What do you >> Can I say goodbye to them? I don't know who's all separated. >> We're going to walk to the back of the ambulance here. >> Over here. >> Shane and the children were then both transported to a medical center for physical evaluation. There he had his blood drawn. Shane was then transported to the Grant County Jail where he consented to a brethealyzer test coming in at 0.167% blood alcohol content level. For context, if Shane was a driver, his blood alcohol content would been twice the legal limit. >> Do you understand the rights as I have read them to you? >> With these rights in mind, do you still want to speak to me? >> Okay, so I I want to just lay it out for you. Okay, >> just lay it out, man. Like what the happened? >> So the charges I like I was said discussing with you the child >> what the like >> so what we got called we got called to your house somebody a third party caller called to say that the father in the household was physically of the children. Okay. So that's why we were there. We get there we find the door open. We announced police department. Okay. We see you. I asked you to come speak to me. I had asked you to come outside and speak to me because your kids were there. I don't want I don't like doing stuff in front of people's kids. Right? Then you started yelling at me. So then again, I had asked you, let's let's go outside. Let's do this outside cuz I like I said, I don't I didn't want to do it in front of your kids. And then you started getting physically aggressive. Okay. So that's why what happened tonight happened. Did were you guys uh did you guys enter my house without uh permission >> because of the call? Yes, >> you did. >> Exit circumstances. Yeah. Okay. >> We had I stepped in. I announced police department and that's when you >> The door was shut. >> No, the door was open. >> The door was completely open. >> Yes, it was open. >> The front door was open. >> So that's that's why what happened happened. So now I want to discuss with you what what happened today like what I want to hear your side of things. All right. >> Well, apparently I'm just >> No, I I I want to hear from your point of view. What happened today? I I want to hear that. What did you see today? What did Shane see today? What did you do this morning? How How'd you start your day? Did you go to work today >> or were you off today? >> Man, I'm out of work. >> You're out of work. Okay. So, what what did you do today then? >> Nothing really. >> Nothing really. Just around the house. >> Were the kids home all day or did they have school? >> I went to school. I dropped my kids off at school at 7:00 this morning. >> Dropped them off all day. >> Went home, hung out with uh my wife and >> Okay. >> My wife went to work. >> I went and picked up the kids from school. We went home. Okay. Well, there's a little bit of time space between when they get off of school and when we got called to your house. So, did you have dinner with them? >> We uh were going to make some pizzas. >> You were going to make some pizzas. Did that ever happen that you remember? You don't think so? >> No, cuz >> Okay. >> This stuff's been going on for what? Probably 7:30 or so. >> Last few hours. >> Okay. So, we we have talked about alcohol before. When did you start drinking >> today? >> I don't know. >> After you picked up the kids from school. >> Yeah, it was after I picked up the kids from school. >> So, if you had to estimate 4:00, 5:00, 6:00. >> I don't know, man. Maybe 4:30. >> 4:30 or so. What were you >> I got back from uh picking up about 4:00 and then >> picked up about 4:00. Okay. I think it was No, it was like 3:30. I'm sorry. >> Okay. >> 3:30, 3:35, somewhere in there. >> Okay. >> Pick up, came home. Um, I already bought the alcohol. >> Sure. >> I had it sitting at home and then I just I don't know, man. I just >> started having a couple drinks and hanging out with the kids and >> I don't know like man like I don't know what the I >> Well, we're going to get we're going to get there. But what were you drinking? This is just me being curious. >> Um >> like liquor, beer, >> like uh malt liquor. >> Like liquor. Okay. >> Malt liquor. >> Do you usually drink that? Like like is that usually like your drink of choice or >> man? I haven't drank in a while. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> It was the first time in a while. >> All right. And then while we were in the hospital, >> few weeks anyway, so >> Sure. Sure. And then while we were in the hospital, you had mentioned something about addiction, like dealing with people with addiction. What I guess what was that about? >> That's me. >> That's you. >> That's me. >> Okay. I guess where does that come from? Like what I guess what are you referring to? >> I have been trying to get myself straight for a long time and I haven't been able to. >> I guess straight from >> like sober. >> Sure. >> I should say. >> Sure. Um, >> I know there's resources out there. There's people to talk to. I know like >> it's beyond that, man. Like I I hurt one of my kids. >> Well, that's what we're going to talk about next. So, was at the hospital with you, right? So, there were some marks on and that's what I want to talk to you about. All right. Do you remember hurting? Did you Did he make you mad tonight? >> You don't remember ever? >> Man, put me away. That's enough. I I don't want to hear anymore. Put me away. >> You don't want to talk anymore? >> No, it's not that. Like, put me away. If I hurt one of my kids, put me away. Put me down. >> I I don't have to I don't have to keep asking you questions. That was to be honest. We talked about the majority of the things I wanted to talk to you about. Okay. >> No, man. If I did, if I didn't put me away, >> do you I guess have you do you ever get aggressive when you drink? Is that something that like you know of or you're aware of? >> Yeah. >> Yeah, you get aggressive when you drink. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Has it always been like that or is that a recent thing? >> No, for the most part. Yeah. Is he okay? He he's he has some injuries. He has some marks, but he's with his mom now. So, he's >> Let me Let me just say this. He was giggling when I was in the room with him. I was able to get him to laugh. What? >> So, if that puts you at a little bit of ease to mind, >> but I tonight, the things that happened tonight are serious. So, that's why I want to talk to you and get your side of it. Is there anything else that you think that I should know? >> I don't I don't know, man. I yell at my kids. Yeah. And I sometimes I yell, but I don't hit them. >> I get mad at them sometimes. >> What is it about? Like in general, >> not listening. >> Just not listening. >> Like normal, man. >> How How old are they? Like >> under 10. Uh, >> okay. So, they're pretty young. >> I guess that brings another question. Do you like when you drink, do you ever drink and forget drinking? Like, is that >> No, no, no. Like, that's why I'm like really confused. I don't know if I yelled at the kids tonight. >> Is there something? >> Scared the out of them. >> Sure. And then they call or man. >> Well, I hear what you're saying, but >> I like I don't know what the happened tonight. Like that's what I'm saying. Like I >> Okay. >> I don't know. >> I I hear >> I remember going home, getting the kids settled, drinking my stuff. the the uh um sky started getting dark and then like you guys showing up. >> Okay. >> Unless I have severe time lapse, like missing like chunks of time. I would actually like to see where these bruises are on him. >> Well, I'm going to tell you now that's not going to happen tonight. I'm I'm going to be as up I tried to be as upfront with you as possible with everything that's not going to happen tonight. >> I get it. But what I'm saying is like it >> everything >> I'm interested in where the bruises are. >> Everything is well documented. Photos have been taken. Shane was found guilty in court of all charges, including disorderly conduct with the intention to cause harm, resisting or obstructing an officer, and battery to a law enforcement officer.
