Two suspected shoplifterss were stopped at a Walmart after store workers found stolen items on them. But the situation became more serious when the male suspect identified as Shane Newman tried to unalive a police officer who responded to the call. Luckily, his plans failed woefully. This happened on December 17, 2025 at a Walmart located on Atlantic Boulevard NE in Canton, Ohio. Police were called to the store around 1:45 p.m. following reports of possible shoplifting. [music] By the time the officer arrived, store staff had already detained two people, 21-year-old Shane Newman and 23-year-old Katarina Jeffrey. The officer brought both suspects into the store's loss prevention office to handle the situation. At first, everything seemed normal, but after a few seconds, Newman tried to unalive the officer, but the weapon didn't work. Before Newman could make another attempt, a Walmart asset protection worker stopped him. And at the same time, the officer stepped in and arrested Newman. Court records show Newman is now facing multiple serious charges. The second suspect, Katarina Jeffrey, who is from Canton, is also facing charges connected to the shoplifting case. Both Newman and Jeffrey appeared in Canton Municipal Court the next day. Newman was given a $1 million bond, while Jeffrey's bond was set at $500,000. and they are both expected back in court on December 23rd, 2025 as the case moves forward.
