[clears throat] >> Just say that too. >> All right. Hey, [snorts] you need to just stop. >> All I'm saying is this is >> They were doing their job, honey. All right. >> No, they ain't doing their job. It takes three and a half blocks to make a inconidential [clears throat] confidential test >> stop cuz that's how much it took you to me right. >> Hey, >> what's up? >> You did. Sorry. Sorry, Ryan. But that's how long it took him to stop me. It didn't >> What's that? >> Three and a half to four blocks it took him to stop me on >> confidential traffic stop on >> All right. Why don't we talk about that later? Okay. You should just take some deep breaths. >> Can I take some deep breaths? [groaning and screaming] [clears throat] >> All right. Sliding this way. >> [clears throat] [snorts] >> You want me to get tall? [clears throat] All >> [snorts] [clears throat] [cough] [groaning] >> right. Try to just take some deep breath. You stop throwing up. Okay. >> Once Jay is finally under control, officers begin assessing the scene. >> [clears throat] >> So, what started this tonight? >> What started all this tonight? >> Well, I I was I Well, okay. So, as far as I know, >> what I know so far is that my mom was living there >> went out with her him and her his girlfriend and then maybe some other my family members, they went out to Oldtown in or something. And then um they my mom said it was they had a fun time and everything was good. And then they said my brother and his girlfriend said he was gonna go um >> deer shining and then they wound up at Norwegian Hollow or whatever. >> Mhm. >> And then my mom called me. It was like probably I was out like with my friends driving around. It was probably like 11 at that time. >> She called me and told me or like asked me um cuz he was drunk and like they wouldn't let him drive or something like that. I don't know. And then me and my my friends went to go pick him up. It was me and then two other of my friends. And then we went to pick him up cuz and then my buddy drove his car home cuz he drives a stick and I couldn't drive. My mom doesn't know how to drive a stick. Um I don't know how to drive a stick. But then we picked him up and brought him here. >> And then um he like it was fine. Like knew he was calm and for the most part he was just stumbling all over the place. He was just drunk. And then I come back and he's he's laying down downstairs in his room [laughter] and everything was like fine. And then he just he started screaming and he's hitting he was hitting his girlfriend. And then he started attacking my mom and his girlfriend and my sister. So I put him I put him in a chokeold. I I wasn't going to let him touch my siblings. I I'm just wasn't going to let him. I was he he about I was I was just strangling him like I was heling a choke hold till he eventually he passed out for a couple seconds. >> He was getting up slowly. Took like a little bit for him to get up and then he um eventually he tried again. He went back downstairs and I was just kind of like getting in front of him making sure he couldn't get to my my the other people in the house. Um I and then you guys got here and he was just started acting like a lunatic >> and I don't I don't know. He's it's always been like this too. It's like it's not a new thing. He always >> getting his girlfriend like >> So you don't know what he's on the night? >> I have no idea he was on as far as I know. It's just alcohol. >> Yeah. >> There's no way it's just alcohol. We got two c two officers in there with them. >> Like [clears throat] >> I can't let >> Is everybody still here then or people take off? >> No, my sister and my brother's girlfriend, they they drove off. They couldn't be here for that. Like >> So did were they attacked at all or? >> Yeah, he he hit my brother's girlfriend um a couple times or he hit his girlfriend, whatever. um a couple times and then um he like tried to grab my sister and then I kind of got in front of him and like whatever and then she kind of ran out the door and then so then she he went straight for my mom and that was at the point where I just grabbed him and kind of just took him to the ground >> and he kind of like we were it was downstairs too >> like I I he kind of took me to the ground over him and I was just like I was kind of just done. I just I wasn't able to have him. He >> I I don't I didn't want to hit him. >> I don't want to hurt him. >> Like it's just I don't I didn't know what to do, >> so I just put him in a choke hold. >> Did he hit you at all then? >> I he tried. >> I just I just kind of got behind him and cuz like Yeah. I don't know. He like I kind of just like went behind him and just I don't know. >> Okay. Is that scratch on your arm from him then? >> Yeah. And like that but it's nothing. threw my arm while he squirted off on me. So, we went into the stairwell. He's got enough courage in him. Robert and I were on his back and he was able to with his arm start pulling himself up the stairs with us hanging on him. So, we went upstairs and hit him up. So, did you >> Yeah. Make this guy ride. He's the only necessary guy that >> he's the only guy that Don't house. >> It's okay. Hey, he's all right. >> He's all right. >> Folks, come in and chat with you guys a little bit. Yeah, [snorts] >> I'm sure you'd much rather just call it a night and go to bed, but it's off now. >> Okay. So, nobody's wanting to give me a statement as to what happened. >> We already did. I mean, >> well, yeah, >> I know. And I'm sorry for the way I behave that we have to people mental health is real and you as police officers I expect more I'm in the health field I expect you to treat people. I know it's hard in a moment of heat, but like >> talk in a manner that you know like we have to respect people. >> But we also have to understand we also have to get >> my job to advocate >> and it's my job to inform you that we have to get him physically safe before we start deescalating. I know >> so we don't have to continue using the force to say things to he was blatantly resistant. >> I know. I know. I'm just saying he was always better. So yeah, I'm sorry. I apologize. >> Like I said, it's stressful for everybody. Yes, it is. >> So, I guess I would do it oneon-one, but we're all together. It's It applies to all three of you at this point. Um being that um you guys aren't wishing to pursue any charges against him for the physical stuff. He's still going to be charged with disorderly conduct, domestic related, because you all live together, adults. It's considered domestic. Okay? That's uh required by state law. So, are you guys both adults? >> I am. >> Okay. So, um you two both have the right to a 72 or no contact with him, which if you want to sign it, that means he can for the next 72 hours, he cannot uh talk to you, come near you, come to your house, any of that stuff. So, you have the right, you guys have the right to sign that if you would like. Okay? >> And I can we can talk a little further outside if you would like to. >> You guys do whatever you feel. I'd rather you not come back here at all, but >> clearly it's not an option. >> Well, if you sign everyone of contact, >> here's the thing. That's 72 hours. That's not the rest of my life. So, I understand >> he's on probation. >> Mhm. >> Can he just go to jail and do his time and like >> that's entirely up to probation parole. I'm going to tell you tonight they're going to place a hold on him. I guarantee it. >> Yeah. Till tomorrow and then he comes back >> until they decide they'll they'll hold him for a while. >> So, I can try to call his probation officer maybe or something. >> Absolutely. You can call probation tomorrow. I we'll be we'll be speaking with the on call number tonight. Okay. >> Um once I explain to them the the charges that we have. Um uh he will be held I'm sure. >> Yeah. And he just needs help. Yeah. >> You know, it's not going to help. >> And with people like him when they're on probation, that's a lot of times that's the easiest route. If probation can try and get him ordered to treatment and stuff and maybe you've been down that road, I don't know. But >> I know you >> um and you being in the healthcare field, you know, you give him all the help he wants. him. >> Jay was placed under arrest and transported from the scene. Jay was ultimately charged with several offenses stemming from the incident. These included disorderly conduct, a class B misdemeanor with a domestic modifier attached to the charge. He was also charged with resisting or obstructing an officer, a class A misdemeanor, to which he later entered a no contest plea, and was found guilty. Additionally, prosecutors filed a more serious charge of battery or threat to a judge, prosecutor, or law enforcement officer classified as a class H felony.
