What's up everybody and welcome back to the channel. Today we've got two body cam cases that show how quickly normal situations can shift into police involvement. When emotions take over and decisions are made in the heat of the moment, in both incidents things didn't stay simple for long and officers had to step in to bring control back to the scene. Let's get straight into it. >> Hey, are you on the phone with us dispatch right now? Okay. Okay. >> It's still not She just walked into the cleaners, the orange cleaners. She's by herself. >> What happened? >> Basically, >> She's in the orange cleaners right now. >> to go get some food before school and my phone fell out of my pocket and I went to go get it cuz I saw it and she had it and then she kept walking and I kept asking her where my phone was and she wasn't trying to give it to me. >> Okay. What's up? Got the 59 in contact with other half. >> She's down here. >> Okay. So where was your phone? >> It was on the ground cuz it fell out of my pocket and and then I asked for my phone back and she kept ignoring me. >> Did you watch her pick up the phone? >> She literally saw the phone and she got it. >> Okay, so you watched her grab the Okay. Okay. Does she have her phone still? >> I don't know. She picked up the phone and I don't know what she did with it after and then she Basically, >> of phone is it? >> It was a iPhone iPhone 12 black and it had like a and it had a case like a a very strong case when it has a stand on the back where I can lift up my phone. >> Okay. >> And I >> How old are you? >> I'm 13. >> 13, okay. >> I chased her all the way through here. I just wanted to go to school. >> Finding a lost phone is one thing. Keeping it when the owner is standing right there asking for it back is a completely different situation. That poor kid. You can tell the child is terrified. [music] >> Okay. You just want your phone back. You don't want to press charges? Okay. What kind of Okay. Hold on a second. Hold on. What kind of >> You happen to see anything happen? >> No, I just seen her coming down the street. >> Okay. >> I just seen him coming down the street. >> Okay. >> Okay. And then he was like, she got my phone. She got my phone. So, I was like, I tried to stop her. Like, >> Okay. >> she was acting crazy, crazy. >> Okay. >> So, me being me, >> Okay. >> I told her I knocked her out. grab her book bag and get your phone out of there. That was me being me. >> Okay. >> she wouldn't even made it this far. >> Are you mom? >> I'm on the side of the boy. >> Hey, how you doing? >> Good. How are you? >> I'm doing just fine. I just wanted to let you know that >> All of this happened in front >> What he's telling us is that what he's telling us is that he was on a scooter and his phone his phone had fell out of his pocket. >> Uh-huh. >> And then the lady had grabbed his phone and he tried to get his phone back. Not by talking like touching her. >> Right. >> But, you know, basically telling her, "Hey, I need my phone. Give me my phone back. You have my phone." And she ended up running and going in that direction. So, >> Hold on. I have the location of the Amelia and Kelmore. So, >> Amelia and Kelmore? >> towards the school. >> Okay. >> That's where it's pinging at right now. >> I already feel bad for this kid, [music] right? He just got the phone 2 weeks ago and something important is happening here. The details of the story are starting to line up and get confirmed. Meanwhile, the mom quickly pulls up the phone's location and that's a smart move. Technology has a way of making situations like this a lot harder to explain away or deny. >> Fox shot 24, watch the description of the female. I have one walking away at the same description. Come here now, you're going to get tased. With a blue scarf blue scarf? GET ON THE GROUND NOW. YOU'RE GOING TO GET TASED. GET ON THE GROUND. Get on the >> I'm here. NO, I'M COMING OUT. >> STOP. GET ON THE GROUND NOW. >> I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO DO. THAT WAS WHY I DON'T STEAL ANYTHING. >> WITH THE BLUE SCARF. >> I DON'T STEAL ANYTHING. I don't steal anything. Check. >> GET ON THE GROUND NOW. >> NO, BECAUSE I DON'T >> GET ON THE GROUND. >> NO, I DON'T STEAL ANYTHING. >> SHE'S inside your apartment, is that >> Get on the ground. >> I DON'T STEAL ANYTHING. >> GET ON THE GROUND. >> I DON'T STEAL ANYTHING. >> GET ON THE GROUND. GET ON THE GROUND. NOW. >> STEAL ANYTHING. >> GET ON THE GROUND. >> I DON'T STEAL ANYTHING. >> GET ON THE GROUND. >> STEAL ANYTHING. >> GET ON THE GROUND. >> I DON'T STEAL ANYTHING. >> Get on the ground. >> I don't STEAL ANYTHING. >> HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. >> I DON'T STEAL ANYTHING. >> HOLD ON. GET HER ARMS. >> STOP. >> Hold on. Stop resisting. Stop resisting. Stop resisting. >> I am not resisting. >> Hold on. >> People often think that talking over officers helps their case, but uh it usually has the opposite effect, right? [music] Uh if she truly didn't take the phone, the quickest way to clear things up would have been to cooperate and let the investigation run its course. Instead, uh [snorts] this situation is just escalating from a phone complaint into a physical arrest. >> Work her hands. >> I got this one. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Okay. >> All right, I got it. >> All right. >> Wow. Okay. Okay. >> Headquarters, we got one at the store. >> You okay? >> I'm okay someone accused me I was stealing a phone and I don't have to steal any phone >> I don't know what's going on but please tell me something and stop though Hey regular guy >> I don't have to steal any phone >> Hey man >> Can I take my phone >> No let's go >> Wow >> What's your name >> I walked over there to get >> That's how about I asked you I asked what your name was >> Do you know what >> I just want to ask you again I asked what your name was I asked what your name was Birthday >> I need a lawyer >> You know if you don't identify yourself it's another charge >> I I need a lawyer >> You already got the one for resisting in there you want another resisting charge >> I'm not going to say anything without a lawyer >> And now we've reached [music] that point where some people watch too many courtroom videos online and start acting like they're in one themselves meanwhile [snorts] this 13-year-old who reported the missing phone is actually been more cooperative than the adult [music] in handcuffs and that's never a good sign for how the situation is playing out right and if she truly has nothing to hide refusing to answer simple questions isn't helping her look innocent >> [music] >> what stands out even more is that no officer ever mentioned a phone first she's the one who brought up the theft herself >> So talk to me man how do we get to this point where did you get the phone at >> We got the phone from the way I picked it up and gave it to our friend our friend had gave it to us >> Okay what's your friend what's your friend's name that got the phone >> Zack >> Zack he ended up getting the phone from the older lady and then he gave that phone to y'all and what did he what did he say to y'all >> He didn't say anything he gave it to him to give it to him. >> Okay. >> He still like oh well. >> Okay. >> Brendan Brendan was going to eat my food so he dropped the phone and left. >> Okay, 10-4 10-4 November 1st 1. >> I was like let me see and then I was like yeah this is his phone cuz I just checked some of my orders when I got home this morning. >> I got you. So I guess it fell out of his pocket while he was on the scooter. And so lady found it able to identify Zachary Brendan at his home. After he confirmed that yeah it belongs to his buddy. So how did he know to give us the phone to you? He just How did he know to give the phone to you? >> I just said let me see it cuz I was going to take it to him after he ate my food. I was just going to walk up to him. >> But how did you know it was his phone? >> Cuz I had looked at the message that I just texted. >> So what is that So my thing is what did Zachary say to you about the phone? He just said oh I found the phone. >> He said a old lady gave him the phone. >> Okay. The old lady gave him the phone. And then from that point on he saw the phone and recognized the phone being uh his buddy's because of the message that he sent him. And so So I guess he dropped his phone. He he dropped his phone and then she picked it up. Also I don't know how she's related to the whole thing. That's what they're trying to figure out. Really uh the older lady some older lady had handed it to this kid named Zachary. One of their friends. And so he had told he told these group of kids about the phone that that was given to him. And so one of them looked and said hey let me look at it. And he looked at it and he saw one of the messages that he had sent him. He said oh yeah that's what's his name's phone. Which is our victim. >> What stands out here is that the teenagers are actually doing a much better job in explaining the timeline than the adult who's just been detained. It raises a simple question. Why was there so much resistance and unnecessary drama in the first place? [music] Like in situations like this a straightforward hey I found your phone. Could have prevented a lot of trouble for everyone involved. >> I just wanted give you a heads up. Like we were investigating a crime. Right? So, when the police tell you stop, you should stop. Then you could have gave your side of the story of I didn't steal his phone. I gave his phone to somebody. And then now we have your side of the story. But you decided to run from the officer. So, I don't know if you knew that we're like the local police and we [music] were trying to do anything. Like we were just trying to investigate a crime. But in the future, you would not be going to jail had you just stopped and talked to us and gave us your side of the story. Okay? But because you ran from her and you resisted her um to investigate this crime, you're now going to jail for resisting. All right? So, that's going to be what you're Mike, was that the Was that the only charge is the resisting? Is So, now you're just going to jail for the resisting charge. All right? Cuz we figured out that the theft of the phone was not actually a theft. So, had you just stayed and not ran from us and resisted her and trying to detain you to talk to you, you wouldn't be going to jail right now. >> Can I say something? >> Sure. >> I didn't I just I I just tell her I'm going to arrive at the board. That's it. But I didn't run. >> Okay. But you walked really fast in there. And she said stop police. >> Okay. This is uh I This is is my my is tight walk. I don't walk fast because I saw her. It's because you can check all the time I walk very fast. This is my tight walk. I just I her because I don't know what happened. I just left her. I'm going to arrive over there >> Mhm. >> and that's it, but I didn't know. >> Okay. >> And this is my stuff. >> what happened Okay. All right. She said she walked really fast into the store, but I don't know what happened inside the store. No. She didn't want to talk. She just said, "Can I tell you something?" and I said, "Yes, you can tell me something." >> The theft charge is no longer the major issue here. The phone has been recovered. The situation's cleared up and the child gets his phone back, [music] right? In a normal situation, everyone could have simply just gone home. [music] It gives the impression of someone trying to change from being the subject of the complaint to acting like the victim in the situation. Meanwhile, the child still seems genuinely shaken by what just happened. >> Okay. Are you going to save me? I lived in Venezuela. So, I I arrived in Venezuela at 3 years old and and I'm 44, okay? >> Okay. >> It's for this reason I'm feeling Latina because I grew up in Venezuela. >> Okay. Thank you. >> And I have only Venezuelan nationality. I don't have any other nationality. >> Okay. That's fine. What I mean, your nationality really has nothing to do with why you're in the back seat right now. Like, it literally has everything to do with the fact that when she said, "Stop, police." to be able to talk to you, you did not stop. You just kept on going. >> Another thing, can I have a lawyer, please? >> Yes, you can. That's why I'm not asking you any specific questions about what happened, okay? So, you have the right to a lawyer and that's why they said, "We're not going to ask you any questions." I was just explaining why you were going to jail and then you voluntarily told me what you wanted to. Um but yes, you can you can have your lawyer and I didn't ask you any any specific questions, okay? >> so much. >> You're welcome. >> The irony here is a bit hard to miss, right? The phone was actually stolen. Nobody's going to jail for theft. And the whole situation comes down to one simple issue. When police gave a clear instruction to stop, it wasn't followed. [music] If that conversation had happened just 10 minutes earlier, it's very likely that this would not have [music] ended up with handcuffs at all. The woman was ultimately charged with resisting arrest and was taken to jail following the incident. Although the missing phone was recovered, no theft charges were filed. The situation escalated when she allegedly failed to comply with officers' instructions [music] during the investigation. And once everything is brought under control, the real consequences of that altercation finally come into focus. A missed flight, rising emotions, and a couple who clearly couldn't calm things down in time. So, what started as stress and frustration quickly turned into something much more serious when deputies arrived on scene. And what you're about to see now shows how fast things can spiral when emotions take control in public. >> Sit Sit down. Sit down. Hey, missy. Missy. What's your name, sweetheart? Come on. Calm down. Let's go ahead and find out what happened. What's >> Nothing Nothing happened, though. >> Let him go ahead. He just told you to go We're going to see what's going on, all right? Just relax. Relax. Relax, all right? Just relax. He went over there. What happened? What Why were you getting called? What happened? >> I don't I don't know why y'all getting a car. >> No, I know. He went over there. He said for the other one. Is that your girlfriend over there? >> Yes, I'm just trying to get my bags. >> All right, what is going on? >> I was just telling her to get the bags. She left her bags. She made us miss our flight. She started She got mad at me and then I told her to get the bags. >> Yeah. >> And then everybody started looking. I don't know. >> All right, let's just >> She She slapped the drink at the desk because she made and then she blamed it on me. That's all that happened. That's what I'm saying, we're flying. I just need to get my ID from her. >> All right, we're going to We're going to handle that. We're going to get your ID from her and you guys will have to separate this. Right now he has to be arrested. >> understand we can't So we have to go to bottom line. We can't separate. She has to go with him. >> No, don't Don't worry, you're going to get your You're going to get your stuff, I promise you. You're going to get it. >> We have to figure out where to go to. Like you're talking about Spirit. >> What time is your flight? >> Our flight was for 9:00. She missed it. >> Oh, she missed it. So you guys going to have to go talk to Spirit people to try to get her on >> That's what I'm saying, we have to go talk. And y'all like y'all are trying Y'all are trying to take us right now. She's talking about going to jail. Nobody's going to go to jail. >> Nobody's going to go to jail. Nobody's going to go to >> to get my flight. >> You have a name, come on. Stop it. You won't be able to fly if you don't have no name. Stop it. >> Nothing brings out the worst in people quite like a missed flight, right? Now you can already tell that this couple was arguing long before the deputies even arrived, and that's what makes airport arguments so intense. Like a normal fight might ruin your afternoon, but an [music] airport fight can ruin your entire trip in a matter of seconds. >> Officer, she's the one. >> You're not arresting her. We are. >> Yes, she is the one. >> I saw you in front of me. Nobody here. That doesn't work. >> Hey, I told you she did it. >> No, she didn't. >> Where is she? I'm just trying to communicate with her. >> What's her first name? What's her first name? That's me. >> Ma'am. Ma'am. >> I'm talking to you. >> Jesus Christ. Is that she the victim? >> She's the victim, but she >> They literally They live together. >> I got it. >> All right, good. >> Thank you. >> All right. >> I am sorry. >> All right. >> [crying] >> Uh once a punch is captured on body cam, there is no simple um just [music] walk away from this option anymore. When officers repeatedly say take a breath, it's not just casual advice. It's an effort slow everything down before the situation gets worse. Uh once [music] physical contact happens, the entire missed flight drama takes a backseat [music] to a criminal investigation that can no longer be talked away or ignored. >> Okay. >> You said you what? >> You got your handcuffs? >> Oh, [ __ ] I did what? >> What's >> other one. >> A prankster? Oh, hell no. >> Hold on, watch your back. Watch your back. >> Right now >> Good you came. >> Okay. >> Right now you're detained, all right? Hold on, give me a minute. Let me go ahead and lock her thing. >> Yes. >> Let me go ahead and lock it. >> Sir, you want That's your confirmation number. That helps me make my flight. She took She >> You already missed your flight. >> She threw the drink She threw the drink at the flight attendant. The flight attendant didn't look at me. She said, "Are you okay?" I said, "No, I'm going to get her." I didn't chase her I chased her down this hall. I said, "Why would you do that?" She said, was her hitting and pushing. You know, I grabbed my I grabbed my bag off of her arm. And then everybody started looking at us and then she ran. I didn't hurt her chasing her. I said, "Why would you have my ID and all that?" That's when the police came. She said, "Can you get off of her shirt." She told the police, "Get off of her shirt." He said He said, "What is happening?" I said, "Nothing is happening." >> But the thing is, you see how you explained it to the thing? If you gave us these stories, we could have gone ahead and explained that. >> told him is what I'm trying to say. He watched me. >> this gentleman right here and I tried to talk to you in the beginning, you didn't want to say nothing. Now I'm just no name. We have to detain you. >> Sir, how you Can I at least Can I at least speak to her? Can I at least speak to her for my ID? Yes, she has my ID and all that. >> Yeah, you got to get back. >> Can I call my parents? She knows the phone was in her bag. I used to call my parents. I don't live near them. She lives in California. I live in Maryland. I need to call my parents. >> You can call your parents. >> I'm getting arrested? >> It's all going to be up to you. Either you or her. You >> Depends on who hit who. >> Depends. >> That's why we were explaining. >> pending an investigation. It's a lawful detention. >> Now, the key point the deputy is making is quite simple. If the situation had been explained calmly from [music] the start, things might have turned out very differently. But, public arguments between couples like this often only makes everything more tense [music] and harder to manage. >> Hey, can I speak to her, please? Can I please speak to her about calling my parents? >> There's no speaking to her at this point. >> Destiny >> Hey, you're too far away to even hear me. >> Okay. >> What time What time we got to come back? >> We were walking on our birthday trip. She She got mad because we made us miss our flight. Drink my drink. And this very table, two two tables out. She threw the drink at the lady. The lady then looked at me crazy. I said, "It's okay. I'm sorry. I will go up here and get This happened right here. She threw the drink at the lady. I told her to calm down. No, it wasn't It was a restaurant. It was The baggage claim. The lady was trying to switch our flight. She got mad at the lady. I said, "Why would you get mad at everybody else? You made us miss our flight." >> Okay. >> Let's take over. >> That's her >> Do you know Do you know what is about to happen? >> All right, right now you're being detained pending an investigation. >> Sir, I cannot stand in the back right now. I'm claustrophobic. Can I just stand outside? >> No, you can't. You stand outside right now. >> Can Can I get out of here, please? >> No, I can't do that. That's part of the law. >> I'm not going to run, sir. >> I know you're not going to run, but still I can't let >> I'm fine. I'm just claustrophobic trying to get home, bro. No, I'm claustrophobic. I'm I had anxiety. I'm just trying to get home. But, so are are we So, are you trying to take me to jail? >> It's not me. We got to do a pending investigation. >> Like I told you, we're going to figure out what the three sides of every story >> I missed no names. >> Nobody here got my story yet. >> I missed no names. When did we try to talk to you? >> I told the guy my story. He was there. He said, "Why are you mad?" I said, "Because she would not give me my stuff. She's running away." >> Some people act like toddlers in these situations, and it's it's hard to understand how there's no sense of like embarrassment. A few behaviors of them being kidnapped, crying and screaming like their life is in danger, even though they're under arrest. The reality is just simple here, man. Once the handcuffs are on, you're clearly in custody. >> You could do one favor though. You could use her shirt and just wipe her down. That's our request. >> what? >> Wipe her face with her shirt. >> I missed no names. I gave you the opportunity to say what's going on. You didn't want to even give your name. >> So, I did because nothing is going on. She literally got mad. She made us miss our flight. And she she threw the drink at the flight attendant. I literally stopped her. You can see the scratch on my arm. Look at the rip on my shirt. She pulled me. >> That's what I'm trying to tell you. You didn't say nothing. >> Sir, because you were >> I was very I was very calm with you and talked to you. I thought that we was calm with you, too. >> In situations like this, the conflict often seems to start from very small triggers, right? Like a glance, that's taken the wrong way, and then it quickly escalates. [music] Jealousy can play a big role and things can spiral from there in the arguments and tension. [music] These situations tend to be loud, unstable, and just like just really difficult to manage, right? In toxic relationships, like in many of the toxic relationships, there can also be a pattern where one person becomes overly dependent on the other, which makes the dynamic even more complicated. The woman was charged with battery following the incident after the situation escalated during a public altercation that deputy had to intervene in. What began as a heated argument reportedly [music] turned physical, which led to her arrest and formal charges. Do you think this situation escalated too quickly or was the charge justified based on what happened on scene? Share your opinion in the comment section below.
