On August 22nd, 2024, officers in New Mexico responded to a home to conduct a welfare check on an elderly woman. Officers had previously been there to investigate possible elder neglect involving family members at the house. Here's what the officers did next. Hello. Hello. Hi. Why are all you people here for? So, I'm I'm a detective and I I was just assigned to look into this cuz I see there have been a few calls. I didn't know about Yeah. I didn't know about last night, but what that means is because they assigned it to me, now everything that comes in from all the field deputies, if they write more reports or anything, it all comes to me. So you just to let you understand though if you worked in the hospital then you know about as we get older we have cognitive deficiency that as we get older sometimes like dementia and Alzheimer's you kind of start causing things and we don't realize it. She let me go look at a room and there's like room feces on her pillow. We can't get rid of the rats. We live on a farm. It's not going to stop. Even if you get an exterminator here it's not going to stop. It makes me worried for her safety cuz that's unsanitary. I know. I know. And the thing about it, she doesn't want to do anything about it. And I try to give it and that's that's part of our responsibility. Um, you know, sometimes as people get older, they're not able to take care of themselves. I'm not saying that you guys are coming across very defensive, right? I feel like I am. I feel I'm not accusing you. I want to be clear. I'm not accusing you guys of anything. I'm just saying the this is what I see and this is what I'm worried about. Well, maybe because you guys got monies to pay someone to come over get these rats out. That's why we're here. We We have a social worker here. I've helped with rodent infestations at other houses. In court, the suspect has pleaded not guilty to all the charges. At this time, the court case is still ongoing. The female suspect was also charged with battery upon an officer and resisting an officer. The female suspect later failed to appear in court and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
