So, today we've got a situation that starts with a retail theft investigation inside a Target store. Officers are trying to figure out one simple thing, right? Did she walk past the checkout area without paying? But, instead of getting clear answers, the situation becomes filled with non-stop talking and arguments [music] with both employees and police. >> Personal, okay? Game time. Insurance. That I promise. This is all my stuff. My [ __ ] cat is my [ __ ] Okay? My Apple Watch. >> Every time officers ask for a simple answer, the conversation moves into a completely [music] different direction. >> Show me what? Your bank account? >> Yeah, like just to show you like like that I just literally and you've seen the time stamp from my mom calling me. Like I literally just, you know? >> And once the shouting starts inside the store, [music] everyone around begins paying attention to what's happening. A little embarrassing, a little chaotic. Now, without wasting any more time, let's jump straight into the video and see exactly what happens next. >> You want to >> Somebody bought themselves a checkout stealing something. >> Somebody bought themselves a checkout stealing? So, what's going on? >> Um, she attempted to walk out with all this unpaid merchandise. >> No, I wasn't. >> on the ground. Hold on. >> Move move over there. Don't be coming up to me like that. Don't come up to me like that. Go over there. >> Oh, you have the power too? >> So, what? >> Um, she has multiple items in her cart. >> But, did she actually steal something? >> She Yeah, she was walking out. and redirected her had back to the office. She came and touched me. >> I had permission to be back there. >> So, she's paying or what? >> I was not. She grabbed that. >> She's not paying. I don't know if she She had the option. I don't want her in the store. She's creating a scene. >> Okay. >> I mailed it. >> All right, so come on. What are you doing? >> What? >> Are you paying for this stuff or what? >> Well, yeah, she said she grabbed some stuff, and I'm trying to see if I can hear it. >> All right, but they don't want you in here. >> This was open. >> They don't want you in the store. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go outside. >> That's what I was trying to do, but then he gave me [ __ ] like, "Oh, now you're not going to buy anything." I was like, "No." I was like, "I was in a rush, you know what I mean?" >> Did she pass the point of sale or anything? With the items? >> I got right there, but it was my hand. >> Come on. Let's go. Let's go. >> Can you just at least say this? >> No, I'm not doing nothing. >> You grabbed my personal property. >> It doesn't matter. Let's go. >> The what? >> Let's go. What's hers, what's not? >> This is all mine in here. I got a grapefruit and apple, baby. >> Yeah, this is yours as well. This is ours. Here, this is This >> Oh, so you did grab that. >> Did she take that? Did she pass all points of sale? >> It's okay though. I grabbed that. >> in here? You're saying some stuff is hers. >> This is my personal stuff. No, I did from the store. >> Let's go. >> From the store I did? That's from the store I did. Now you're going to say I'm a liar. And keep Keep coming at me. I'll do a damn jail. That's why it gets to you personal. I'm going to go after your personal personal, okay? >> And here we go. Another situation where someone's accused of trying to leave a store without paying. The employee says that you walked out with the items, and she immediately starts yelling at everyone around her. Now, the officers are focused [music] on one important question. Did she pass the checkout area without paying? Legally, that detail is what determines whether this becomes a retail theft case or just a misunderstanding. >> I swear to god I promise this is all my stuff. My [ __ ] pad, okay? This is my [ __ ] Okay? My Apple Watch. >> This is ours can you come out? >> This is all mine. I bought it right from Apple. Look, I want you to look. Do you see anything else in here? >> All right, come on. >> My Apple Watch. Oh, I don't get an apology? >> Put that back in there. >> No, of course I don't cuz I'm a woman. Right? Right? No apology, you were wrong. >> Let's go. >> I'm not doing anything. >> Come on. >> Expensive stuff. Sir, can you get my my Why >> Turn around, you're under arrest. >> I didn't steal anything. >> Turn around. >> For what? >> Turn around. >> I want to know for what. I was having a bad day before what? >> Turn around. >> My son was just in an accident. Of course I'm having a bad day. I'm not trying to diss you but you can't What do you Is this what you wanted? Over a minute uh miss me I don't know. >> Turn around. >> Why are you being so rough? I didn't [ __ ] do anything. Cuz I showed you I asked for an apology. This is what you wanted because I asked for AN APOLOGY. YOU'RE HURTING ME. THAT'S MY STUFF RIGHT THERE. THIS is my stuff and my stuff. >> Let's go. >> Oh, because I asked for a [ __ ] apology? Because I asked for A [ __ ] APOLOGY YOU'RE ROUGHING me like this. Okay, I was [ __ ] RIGHT THERE. YOU SAID YOU accused me of stealing and you said I didn't. I didn't do anything. WHERE'S MY APPLE [ __ ] AND MY PHONE CHARGER. BRO, GET MY STUFF. GET MY STUFF. GET MY STUFF. YOU CAN'T HIT ME. IF you break my phone okay? You're not talking to me anyway. Haunt you. Haunt you. I did nothing wrong. It was proven that he stole, okay? It was proven he lied down on the new life backpack. RIGHT? SO, HOW DO I TROUBLE? YOU'RE YOU'RE JUST LYING. YOU'RE TALKING TO ME LIKE YOU'RE A COWARD. YOU'RE NOT TALKING to me like you're a [ __ ] racist. I did nothing wrong. He lied on me. >> No, so no one saw anything. >> He lied on me. So, I pulled the truth, right? >> Total change of the situation. >> Right? >> And now she's completely focused on the Apple Watch. Uh in situations like this, right? People sometimes they hold on to one small point while ignoring the bigger problem around them. Meanwhile, the officers are just trying to continue the conversation while she's demanding apologies during the detention. And once the officer decides to make the arrest, the situation escalates very quickly. Her shouting and constant yelling is just making the situation even more intense and difficult to handle. >> Okay, turn around and talk to me, please. Yes, I am calm. You're also freaking out that it's my own stuff that I stole right now. See, they locked us down. Can you please help? Listen to me. >> Possible retail theft. >> No, but what do you know? It wasn't me. I >> The pads note said that they saw her stealing. >> I'm freaking out. >> So, what happened? >> [laughter] >> Sorry, she stole something. >> So, Hey, what What do we got, man? >> Um she came in earlier with another gentleman that was under the influence of drugs. I've been watching her since she walked in with the other gentleman holding electronics. She selected electronics. Yeah, I got all of it. All my items and attempted to walk out without paying for the merchandise. Not only that, before that I I presented myself to let know like, "Hey, I've been watching you for a while. Um you um you escalated the situation." She was in the back room where team leads only should be. Um and she was back there um saying she was looking for milk or something. Anyways, um when she went to go walk out, I went to stop her. Um she didn't comply and she went back to self-check out and started creating an entire scene saying she didn't mean to walk out with the merchandise. Um and then that's when I reached out to you guys cuz it was obviously starting to escalate and she started getting very, very close and aggressive. >> Okay. >> Um like she is now. >> And now, uh just 2 minutes after the shouting, she suddenly changes to, "Can you please listen to me?" As if everything from before is being forgotten magically. Um [music] and uh this whole time the store security is explaining the situation step by step, right? Suspicious behavior, picking up electronics, trying to leave without paying, and then becoming confrontational when [music] stopped. Honestly, that explanation about looking for milk while [music] spending time around the electronic section sounds sus, doesn't it? >> So, you want to leave the lights on or should we end the whole video? >> Don't matter to me. >> Look at this. Tonight was the Google um Is there a camera on my mouth? >> Come on. Let's go to the car. >> Give me an apology. Are you going to give me >> grab her wallet? >> Huh? >> What? >> Can you grab my wallet? Please don't give me a chance to call security before you arrest me. You guys just can't accept the fact that this is really happening. I have been waiting for my lawyers. Please, don't start yelling at me. Please. >> Sit down. >> What did I do that you I'm sorry I yelled at you. You're right. And Bob with you all that makes people think they can like You know, Sir, please talk to me. >> I am. Sit down. >> You're not doing >> Sit down, look. Hey, uh, Thunder. Thunder. Can you stand by with her? >> My electric stuff. Thunder, look. >> [laughter] >> My son needs me. >> Huh? >> Yeah, that's mine and then >> It's your bag. >> And there there's a um >> All right, I think he's going to say um >> I mean, that guy can have all of the pool my foot air and it has my son's >> Huh? >> um Apple stuff. >> It's going to be retail as well. >> What? No, I bought it all from Apple at the >> It's going to be retail, all right. Um You want to bring >> Disorderly. >> This is this is No, no. >> You want to bring her in? Next, stop talking for a second. Just stop. Just stop. Okay, just just let us talk. I haven't even asked you any questions. I haven't asked you any questions. Just stop. Just stop. Um do you want to bring her into the LP office and we can just book her? >> she's being belligerent. >> Yeah. >> And pulling and and running and all that. So >> No, I'm afraid. Are you a man? Are you a man? >> This is your watch, correct? >> It's my son's. >> Is this your watch? Is this your watch? >> Yes, sir. >> I'm going to put it in your purse, okay? Your son was in an accident? >> Yeah. >> I'm sorry to hear that. >> No, [laughter] he and so then >> I'm going to go confirm what we've got. >> Look, I have >> Yeah, he said he >> I haven't asked her anything. >> Please give my realtor a minute, please. >> All Miranda's are mine. >> All right, if you want to do that, then >> How do you open this thing? >> [snorts] >> I know, it's hard. >> And now one moment it's a long story and the next moment she's talking about her health, her son, her laptop, and her entire personal life all at once. Meanwhile, the officers can barely finish a sentence because she keeps talking over everyone. Man, the the deputy repeatedly is just telling her to just stop talking. It shows how difficult it's become to separate the facts from all the confusion. The officers are trying to figure out what actually happened, while she just keeps jumping from one explanation to another. To many people, her story doesn't even sound believable. >> Where's my Are you getting the rest of my stuff in the army bag? >> Just open the purse, please, so I can put your walking cane >> I remained clean for 4 months, but that's just with the hope that I finally got into the God based one. >> You got to open the purse. >> I got to squeeze them like this. You got to squeeze these, too. >> Squeeze them how? >> Like together? >> Perfect. >> Look at me, please. >> Please what? >> Can you let me leave with I am in a love video? It will love me on video. >> can explain. Just put your feet in first, so I can close the door and I'll open the window, all right? >> Is it you're taking me to jail no matter what? >> Put your feet in. >> I'm going to I'm going to listen no matter what. I respect cops, but I'm just asking. >> Oh, you're here to respect cops. Perfect. >> You know what? The cameras watched it. The cameras It wasn't It wasn't me. >> Okay, well, we're going to review the cameras, and then we'll figure out what's going on. >> back there. I didn't even have corporate calling because all of a sudden one of the workers saw that I knew about their their penny deal, you know? And then the guy brought me in the back to collect it. And then when they saw what the price was, all the women started getting nasty, and I was like, "I don't understand." You know, like that's the >> You might step it out for us. She's going to pat you down and search you, okay? >> I was like, "I don't understand." >> This pocket? >> Um >> What? This space is on top of that. Anything in your pocket? No? >> These people misrepresented me and now you all misrepresented me to the hospital, too, okay? >> Can you take this off you, okay? >> I want you to be friendly. >> Oh, look at you. >> I want you to be friendly. I want you to be >> What's that? >> I want you to be friendly. I want you to be stuff, they got to show you my bank account. I have more than he makes in a year. >> People can say whatever they want. >> You know, but I mean, I'm I'm I'm I was stealing Please, don't tell >> I didn't say you were. >> I know you. Do you see Do you see that I Do you have Do you see that I have Do you >> What's your name, ma'am? >> I'm sorry. >> And now she's jumping from recovery stories to conspiracy claims. She's talking about her income while the officers are simply just trying to place her safely into the patrol car. Now, this is something I've seen which happens a lot, right? When someone realizes that talking may not change the outcome anymore. Like they begin throwing out every possible explanation hoping something will help their situation. Honestly, saying I make more than he makes in a year during a shoplifting investigation is one of the most unusual and um irrelevant arguments imaginable. >> Who does that stuff? >> Back of the store. >> Um probably close to 200,000 or something. >> Okay. >> Yeah, that was a I called about maybe an hour ago. There was another gentleman here that was like doing like the whole awning like over in men's together. Um she was walking around in like electronics and stuff. For a whole bunch of reasons. >> What about the stuff in the back? Is that our stuff? >> No, it's not. Just the stuff Everything that's not inside of the >> Everything that's not inside of the bag. >> I even walked over in jewelry and that and all. >> I mean, I was trying to be, you know, cordial with her at first cuz honestly, I didn't really know what was going on. Well, I mean, at that point when I get there, she's already back paying for the stuff allegedly. But, you know what I mean? I got to figure out what I mean, And the very least, I got RA and disorderly, you know what I mean? >> Yeah. >> And like when I saw her earlier I walked over to her and I'm like, "Hi, how are you doing? My name is Dante. I lead the security department of the store. I've gotten multiple complaints about you. You can't be in team member only areas. You also >> yesterday, yeah. Cuz she was She's been in the store for Were you familiar with her before? >> No, that was all today. When I was watching her like I walked over and let her know like, "Hey, like you're making people very uncomfortable. You're recording people. You cannot record people in the store." I even heard her go, "No, I'm not. Let me kick you out right now. But what I need you to do is just relax." And she was like, "You [ __ ] racist." And I was all this stuff and I was just like, "Whoa, what?" >> You'll give me an itemized receipt and all that good stuff. >> Yes, that's what That's what he's doing right now. >> When she kicked the door, did she make it inoperable or not? >> No, I fixed it. >> Did she break anything in the store? >> No, not to my knowledge. >> This is her right now? >> Yeah, this is her walking out. >> The stuff was still sealed on her? The stuff >> Yeah, it's still sealed and everything. That's what I was just like, "You know, my name is Dante again like I just told you. I said I need you to come with me to the office and we so we can talk about this unpaid merchandise." She was like, "What are you talking about? I didn't even know I was leaving." >> Did she touch you at any point? >> No, she didn't touch me. I kept backing up. She kept getting really close and I told her I was like, "Ma'am, you're making me really uncomfortable. Do me a favor for both of our safety, just go ahead and back up." Then she started like going to the register and like ripping stuff off and like printing stuff out. Like she was asking me who I'm on the phone with. >> Now the store employee is trying to stay professional while handling the situation, right? Meanwhile, she's walking into employee only areas, recording people, and making customers uncomfortable. Then, when she's confronted, she suddenly starts shouting accusations. And officers [music] often deal with situations like this, right? Where people bring up different claims when they're being held accountable. But the main issue [snorts] here is simple. Walking toward the exit without paying and with unpaid sealed items is a serious concern, no matter what explanation is given afterward. >> And like I was trying to tell the operator, I'm like, "Hey, like this is escalating. Like I have to involve my team. I have to involve my leader cuz this is about to end up on Tik Tok or something." >> Yeah. >> And she was just like, "No, I need you to stay on the phone." And I'm just like, "Yeah, but this end up on Tik Tok before I tell my leaders like >> Mhm. >> I'll tell you um so that was >> All right. Don't tell me you don't have >> You um >> the link and all that so you can send me that. >> Yes. >> Um I just came in here to, you know, >> to validate >> confirm what I what I got there. So just give me the uh just give me this form and then you know I got stuff. >> Yes. >> Raise your right hand, state your first and last name, first name and you and you swear and affirm that everything you just told me is the truth and nothing but the truth. >> Yes, I do. >> Cool. Target wants to prosecute? >> Target would like to prosecute in trespass, yes. >> In trespass? >> Yes. >> Um you'll get me an itemized receipt for everything and um we're good. So up until the point where I got here, she had taken the stuff, went back to self-checkout pretending like she was going to pay but she was never making an effort to pay or anything, didn't bring out any money or anything like that. >> No, never. She never produced any type of money, cash, card, or anything. She would I don't even I'm not even sure if she scanned any merchandise. Um but like I told her I was like, you at this point like you already checked it to pay. You already passed our point of sales and attempted the exit. Um so like at that point you paying is not like in the picture but you come to the office like we can speak about it and she was just like, "No, no, I'm going to pay. Like I'm going to pay. I'm just I'm not in my right mind." blah blah blah. So then obviously I can't like we're hands off. So I'm not like if she attempts to go over there and pay, that's up there. >> She could do whatever she wants to do but then it started to escalate when she started screaming um and it started to cause a huge scene in the store. So again like that's when I reached out to you guys and I'm like, "Hey, like at this point we need her out of the store." >> And uh, honestly, the employee already knew where this was going the moment the yelling started. Like, the man even says, "This is about to end up on TikTok." Which shows how retail workers often deal with both shoplifting and the risk of being filmed and posted online. Now, legally, the key point [music] he explains is that once someone passes all payment points with unpaid items, it's already considered a theft [music] attempt. Now, trying to pay afterward does not change what already happened. Meanwhile, [snorts] she just continues to claim that she's not mentally okay while the situation in the store becomes loud and disruptive for everyone involved. >> That's what is upsetting me because you think I wouldn't steal. >> All right, just let us figure it out, okay? >> Well, if there's no probable cause for shoplifting, then you won't be arrested or Get out of here and do something first. >> Let him read you that, okay? >> All right. I'm a clerk. What's that? >> A tissue for my eye and nose. >> I don't have any tissues. >> read you that, okay? >> All right. >> I'll see if I have one. >> I'm required to warn you before you make any statements that you have the following constitutional rights. You [snorts] have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions. You listening? Any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given. You have the right to the presence and representation of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statements and during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, you are entitled to the presence and representation of a court-appointed lawyer before you make any statements and during any questioning. If any time during the interview, you do not wish to answer any questions, you are privileged to remain silent. I can make no threats or promises to induce you to make any statements. This must be of your own free will. Any statement [snorts] can be and will be used you used against you in the court of law. Okay. Knowing your rights as I have read them to you just now, Are you willing to talk with officers without an attorney? Okay. >> And as you see, I don't know if you heard it. She was saying she remember my name. She said, "Wow." >> Yeah. Uh what What was your first name, Amanda? >> Amanda. >> What's your middle name, Amanda? Spell it with What's your birth date? >> And now is the time for Miranda rights. Asking for tissues in the middle of the warning fields very typical for this entire situation. But the important part is that the officer stays calm, patient, and professional while following proper procedure. Like even as the situation becomes distracting, [music] they continue to handle it like step-by-step, systematically. >> One more time. >> Sorry. >> Mhm. Okay, what's a good phone number for you? >> Ma'am, please hold it. I need you to make sure everyone that's here is locked in. >> What do you want the tissues for? So what, your eyes or what? >> [snorts] >> Amanda, what's your cell phone? >> Close your eyes. Close your eyes. >> Close. >> Yeah, I don't want to actually poke you in the eye. >> Yes. >> All right, you good? All right, Amanda, just swing your legs in so I can close the door, okay? Show me what? Your bank account? >> Yeah, like just to show you like like that I just literally and you've seen the time stamp from my wrist mom calling me. Like I literally just, you know. >> What What's your bank account going to show me? >> Happening. I am >> So tell paid for items? >> and and everything. Yeah, like >> Okay. >> feel, you know. >> Listen listen, there's very good cameras in Target. If you paid for something, we're going to see it. Okay? [laughter and gasps] And if you didn't pay for something >> you though is what is what happened when my mom called me. I guess I did beeline it for the door, but I didn't make it out the door. >> Why did you beeline for the door? >> Because I think it was natural reaction and then once I >> Natural reaction to what? >> Running to the car. >> [snorts] >> When your kid's in danger when you're a parent >> Okay. You're saying your kid's in danger? >> Yeah. So I'm going to close it. If your kid's in danger, natural reaction >> So you're saying you ran because somebody said your kid was in danger? >> run from someone. There wasn't someone running. >> I'd say from someone else. You said ran. >> Like I was trying to get to my son as soon as possible. >> Okay. Where is your son? >> as soon boy, it Um me when uh uh Never you Sorry, what? What was it? >> And now she seems to think that she can convince the officer, which is not how this situation is going to work. She keeps bringing up things like bank accounts, expensive bags, and Apple products as if that should change the outcome. That's not how probable cause is decided, man. The officer handles it really well, right by bringing everything back to one clear [music] point. The security cameras will show whether she paid or not. At the same time, her explanation keeps changing from I didn't leave to I walked toward the door, which only makes her position weaker at [music] this point instead of stronger. >> It's caused a huge issue. >> Cool. And then her um her creating that disturbance today stop any cashiers from doing their job or like customers from paying? >> For sure. A lot of a lot of guests kind of like uh you can you'll see like a lot of them didn't even want to go to that area cuz she seemed very like erratic. >> She was acting disorderly and stuff? >> Yes, very disorderly. >> Okay. All right. Um so I guess I'll give you the I'll send you the link. You know how it goes. >> Yes. >> upload it. >> upload the video. >> Um I'll give you the case charge and all that. And if you could just get me that receipt, that'd be great. >> Yes, he should be on his way back now. Um but like I said, I can I have to figure out what time her and the other gentleman got in cuz the other guy they took out on a stretcher cuz he was like like I said, he was like straight up like leaning over. >> What do you mean on a stretcher? >> Like paramedics came and picked him up. >> Okay. >> Like he was like on on something. >> Okay. Fair enough. Disorderly. >> All right. >> All right. >> Retail. Yeah. I don't know her. I don't work this side. I'm literally like >> Oh. >> I just happened to be close by, but I work on the other side of city. All right, cool man. >> Thank you. So as soon as I get the link, I'll send you all that to you. >> Yeah, I'm I'm still going to come back to Yeah, I still need the receipt and all that stuff. All right. Cool. >> And then her stuff was in that car, too, if you wanted to just take it. >> Okay. >> I think she dropped another Apple Watch over in dairy. I didn't want to touch it. >> It's on the south side of the store. >> I wonder where she got them. >> Probably Best Buy. >> Best Buy, yes. >> When once customers stop shopping, employees are unable to work properly, which creates another problem in the store. Hearing that another person involved in the situation is taken out on a stretcher [music] makes this whole incident feel even more serious and chaotic. Now even the comment about probably Best Buy at the end shows how [music] exhausting the situation has become for everyone involved, including the officers. >> And then as soon as they got not like this last one, >> Thanks. >> but the one like before, >> Mhm. >> uh he was like waiting out here. And he was like, "Oh, no, [snorts] no, no." So then I was like, >> Amanda, let me ask you a question. >> What? >> Did you take things from Target without pay- without paying for them? >> No. >> So we're not going to watch camera footage and see that you stole anything. >> No. And when >> Because you don't have to exit the doors. You have to pass the registers without providing payment. >> But But as soon as I >> you pay for the items in your possession? >> But as soon as he brought it to my attention I was doing, I immediately said, "Then fine, I don't need them right now." And then he seemed like that wasn't a happy answer for him. So, just kind of to to show him I had the money, I said, "Fine, can we hurry up and and get this paid?" You know? >> Okay, and then you started making a scene at the register. >> No, that's just because I didn't though. That was because when I walked up >> Sure. >> my whole arm bag was open. My Apple watches were out and my Wait. >> Let me Let me rephrase Let me rephrase the original question. Did you have items that belong to Target in your possession and you walked past the registers without paying for them? >> In my possession meaning the shopping cart? >> Yes. Or on you. Did you conceal anything? >> No. I mean, that's what I would tell you you're talking about like concealing on me. >> No, did you conceal anything? >> No. >> Was there anything in the shopping cart that you pushed past the register without paying for it? >> No, I It was so like >> Just remember Remember the fact that there's very clear cameras. >> go near the But you'll see the panic in my face. I didn't even go near out this town. I didn't even go near the registers. I literally was just like panicking to get out. Then as soon as he >> So, did you have Target items in your possession and you attempted to exit the store without paying for them? >> When my >> Yes or no? >> I'm afraid to say yes or no cuz then you really say no matter what we find then you're admitting to doing a crime when I I didn't. >> And the officer's doing a [music] great job here by keeping things simple and clear. They're removing all the extra talk and then focusing only on the basic yes and no facts. Amanda keeps responding [music] with long explanations instead of direct answers, right? When the officer asks, "Did you pass the registers with unpaid items?" she struggles to give a clear yes or no response. And when someone says they're afraid to answer yes or no, [music] it often shows how serious the situation's becoming, right? The deputy's just trying to get a very simple answer while she continues avoiding direct responsibility. >> If we don't find evidence of a crime >> I made my I made my kids since they were two turn back in and return stuff. >> You're you're dodging my question, Amanda. >> I know that I'm a princess and I know >> Well, you haven't given me a clear answer. Tell me the truth. What happened? >> [laughter] >> I'm telling you. >> No, you haven't answered. You keep deflecting. >> We I was arguing with me that they won't tell me that I didn't steal some chips. So that I'm not >> Okay, if you're not going to answer my question, I'm just going to close the door. >> I'm answering it. >> You're not. >> I'm answering it fully. >> You're beating around the bush. >> I I don't know what I'm beating around the bush. >> me to answer You want me to ask the question again so you can say yes or no? >> I did not and leave this store right here. This is my store with stuff I didn't pay for. And as soon >> That's not what I asked. >> He I saw us when I said, "Wait, you did forget to pay for that." You said, "Wait, you forgot to pay for that." I called her to pay for it. >> Put your legs in the car. >> Why can't I >> in the car. >> Speak to him. >> I'm going to roll down the window. >> I want to speak to him. >> Move your foot. I got it. Miranda, is I did. What was Huh? She's she's beating around the bush. She's not giving a clear answer. You're under arrest for disor- disorderly conduct, retail theft, and resisting arrest, okay? Okay. >> Are you guys doing this to me? I waited four months to get into this place. >> All right, now you're going back. >> That was pretty ahead. I didn't steal anything. Once the tape. I knew that you guys were just playing me. >> You pull the two tabs together towards each other. >> I what? >> You pull it like this. There you go. >> I want to I want I want to >> She showed me. >> Tell me to tell tell me. >> I want to get my baby. I want my child to the hospital. You guys are lying saying I didn't admit. >> No, I didn't pass this door trying to make it to my car. >> Would you be able to send him a link? >> Yeah. >> You got a receipt and all that? >> Then who will I >> He's getting me the receipt. Okay. That way I can just start with this cuz >> They're accusing me of this. Where's my my army bag? >> Let me get it for you. >> Where's it at in the store? >> The people at the register is paying it. >> Which register? >> Can I speak to you, ma'am? Cuz these two men obviously they just want to arrest me. >> Go ahead and talk. I'm listening. >> You even said that you saw the receipt. I'm on my way. I'm on my way. [music] >> The officers are trying so hard to get a simple, direct answer, but she keeps giving these [snorts] long explanations instead of just responding clearly. And [music] legally, once someone passes the checkpoint with unpaid items, loss prevention can already have probable cause to investigate the theft. Meanwhile, she keeps focusing on minor details like her belongings instead of the [music] main issue. It just feels like she keeps shifting into unrelated topics instead of staying on the main question. >> You want to deal with the um over traffic in here? >> All right. That's her stuff. Her phone as well. Then this is the receipt. It came out to $360. >> Cool. >> All right. I'll let you He's going to send you the link. And then that's the case I'm over there. Let me check this out. And as far as we know, none of this is Target's. >> I saw her back there putting stuff in. >> She had already brought this in. >> Yeah. >> Right? You said what? >> She had already brought this in with her. >> She came in with that. Yes, that's correct. >> Is that her phone? >> That is her phone as well. Yeah. She's got um an Apple Watch over there on the floor in the dairy. I can show you guys. >> Three Apple Watches, [music] an army backpack, a phone, and random are carefully separating her personal belongings from the items that are allegedly stolen because [music] that difference matters for evidence and any possible charges later. Meanwhile, Amanda spent a long time just arguing and explaining her side instead of giving a clear and direct answer. >> All right, Amanda. Come on. Come on, Amanda. Amanda, what was Let's go. Come on. Walk this way. Amanda. Amanda. You can talk to him inside. No, we're not. You're going to talk to him inside, okay? Here, sit on the bench. Sit on the bench. Sit on the bench. You should face the wall. All right, face the wall. Face the wall, please. All right, when I release the cuff, put your hand up on the wall, okay? Same thing with the other one, okay? Checking you one time, okay? All right, have a seat on the bench. Have a seat on the bench. >> Can you take the take the bracelets off for us? Now, what's going on? What? What were we were talking about? I'll tell you what, the faster you do everything though, the faster we're out of here. The faster you take off your stuff, the faster you get to county, the faster you get to see a judge, okay? Sit down. Sit sit down. You don't have to stand up to take your necklace off. >> Take off your necklace, miss. Take off your necklace, miss. >> This is crazy. This is you can't understand the fear that goes through a parent. >> As you can see now, new claims are coming up every few seconds. Pregnancy, being rich, suing Target, a child in the hospital, missing items, accusations against staff, [music] and even the Apple Watches are still being part of the situation in the background. Some people also believe that using personal stories or emotional claims does not change the fact of what is happening during an investigation. Legally, if someone starts calling in a way, arguing, or causing uh >> [music] >> public disturbance, charges like resisting and disorderly conduct can be added on top of the retail theft very quickly. >> So, you're taking me to the hospital? >> Your necklace. >> What? >> Take your necklaces off, please. >> Yeah. But I mean you don't have to. >> You have to. >> No, not the necklace. >> You don't take them off and steal and everything. >> Take my gun club. >> All your jewelry. >> Not all my jewelry. >> You want to talk? You want to talk? Call me at this phone 456-700-3. >> You want to give me your address? You know where we going. >> 620-037-1716. >> Yeah, I'll do that for you. You work on the other one. >> You sure? >> Yes. >> Thank you. I was thinking you could give me >> Come on, grandma. >> Amanda is just acting like the situation involves very valuable personal items instead of a routine retail incident. Like one moment she's talking about Gun Club Road, and the next she's giving different addresses as if the situation keeps changing without clarity. Uh, the deputies are doing their best to stay professional and manage a very chaotic situation and interaction. And some people feel frustrated watching this kind of behavior, like especially when it seems like um the situation's being handled without taking responsibility seriously. Now, after arriving at the booking facility, she went through the normal processing procedure before being transferred to the county jail. She was officially charged with petty theft, disorderly conduct, and resisting [music] an officer. The next morning she refused to leave her cell for her first court appearance, but the judge still found probable cause in her case. After spending 3 days in custody, she [music] posted a $2,250 bond and was released. She later pleaded not guilty, but she missed her most recent court date. Her attorney told the judge that she's currently staying at a treatment facility, which caused her next plea conference to be moved to a later date. At this time, no final decision's been made, and more court proceedings are still expected. [music] Now, I want to know what you think about this entire situation.
