Trespassing you from the property, so I do need to see your ID. Well, I can't be trespassing unless I've committed a crime. Is that [music] right? Also, I need to be No, they have the right to trespass you from the property. >> trespass warning first. And that's why do you have some ID on you? Some ID? Yes, ID, identification card, driver's license, photo identification card or something. Do you have some ID on you? Rookie cops demand ID without any legal basis, >> [music] >> and they have no idea this camera is going to make them pay for it. We have to have your ID to do so. No, you actually don't have to have my ID. You can just give me a warning and I can walk away and that's all We need your license, identification. No. And then you could be on your merry way. If you're not, then you can leave the property cuz the sidewalk and all this is off of your property. When power is misused, the consequences [music] don't end at the scene. They can follow all the way into the courtroom. Just seconds after walking into the post office, the man begins explaining his purpose. It sounds completely normal. But what he says quickly turns the situation tense. I'm sorry, what's that now? Hey. All right. Are you you got a body cam on? Yeah. Yeah, okay. Looks like you got What's going on today, man? Why you aggravating people? I'm not aggravating anybody. I came in here take a look around the post office, do a little inspection of it. What you inspecting? >> get Huh? What are you inspecting? >> just checking it out. For a specific purpose? Well, I've got a purpose, but you know, you can't really divulge all of your information all at one time when you're working on a story, you're trying to put pieces together. They're trespassing you from the property, so I do need to see your ID. Well, I can't be trespassing unless I've committed a crime. Is that right? Also, I need to be No, they have the right to trespass you trespass warning first, so then you can just escort me off the property and that's about it. >> you we have to have your ID to do so. No, you actually don't have to have my ID. You can just give me a warning and I can walk away and that's all as far as it goes. No, it's >> But again, not the way we do it here in Braselton. Well, let's not worry about how we do it in Braselton. Let's worry about how we do it, you know, in the rest of the country. Um but before we're even getting to that point right there, let's circle back around to the fact of what I was trying to lead you to that. You're trying to trespass me from public property that somebody >> that's open to the public. They have no right to ask me to leave. They do. They do not. Not unless I've committed a crime. Are you a sergeant? You're not a sergeant, are you? There you go. Can you get somebody else who's over you or even under you? Maybe one of your subordinates knows it better than you. No. I think they might. Um but they uh they can't ask me to leave public property if I'm here to conduct my business. What business >> be denying me service. >> What's your business? I'm working on a story that I'm trying to put together. I need to get some footage of the inside of post office and how everything's operating in there. Okay. And trying to get the footage I need. You do some of walk through, you get what you need, you walk stand back, you get some what's called B-roll. You get some of that stuff taken care of and then also I do actually want to, you know, make a purchase here, too. It's why while I'm here also to help support the post office. You know, they've been struggling. Well, it doesn't look like you're supporting. Looks like you're aggravating them. I'm not What seemed like a simple misunderstanding quickly unravels because the more they talk, the further apart they get. The tension rises fast, and then within seconds, one unexpected move changes everything. We got called here because you were aggravating people and you were getting agitated. Agitated, apparently. So, aggravating uh what charge is that going to be? Well, right now it's criminal trespass if you don't give us your ID so we can trespass >> Well, so to trespass me you got to have your ID so we can fill fill out a form. >> me you got to have crime committed on the public property. It is true. If you come on my private property and I tell you >> That's There you go. That's different. >> It's not different. >> Your private property. Okay, who owns this? The government owns this. They have the right to tell you to leave. They are not the government. The The First Amendment gives me the right to be here standing here doing what I'm doing today. >> And she runs the property and she has the right to tell you to leave. And I haven't bothered any customers. Well, that is not true. Otherwise >> I've helped people, in fact. I've opened doors for people as they walked in. I stepped out of line because they got busy. >> running tags in the parking lot, his face is going to pop up on one of them. You think so, huh? Um So, I was even opening doors for people. They I wasn't finished conducting my business yet. They started getting busy. Do you know what car you drove up in? I actually started stepping out of line and letting people get in who had a lot of packages, a lot of stuff to take care of. Mhm. I'm here collecting information on this post office because there's if you look on uh the Google reviews there they got a very low score here, which is unusual because they have a simple job of just taking in packages and sending stuff out, but they have a very low score and a whole lot of stuff that talks about how people get packages missing from up here. I'm trying to see if there's anything that could be a link to that. And why is that your job? Why is it my job? It's not my job to make sure that they're not losing packages, but if I have information that could be useful to somebody else, then they could take care of it. Mhm. Yeah. But either way, it doesn't really matter what I'm here doing cuz I don't really have to explain to you everything that I'm here doing. I'm here to conduct business. I have After the heated arguments, the situation doesn't cool down. Instead, every word only adds fuel to the fire. The police begin tightening control while the man firmly stands his ground. And then it stops being just words. We're in public. Right? Exactly. We're in public. Okay. >> of a building? It's still public. That's a public building. Okay. The post of the uh what do you call that? The Yeah, the post office box area is definitely open to public. Hell, the door never locked. I don't I don't think you can go in there anytime you want. >> to public. It's a privately owned business, though. Okay. And it's a post office not technically privately owned? No. It's It's owned by somebody. >> It's owned by the federal government. It's owned by somebody. >> Right? It's owned by the federal government, right? >> by somebody. Yeah, it's owned by we. Well, you don't pay taxes here, do you? Doesn't matter where I pay taxes. Tax money goes into the federal funds that get dispersed out everywhere else, right? If you say so. So, as long as I'm a US citizen, if I was even if I was a foreign citizen, if I was a foreign citizen and I came into this country, right? And I bought a candy bar, I have every right to come in here and do the same thing. To to film and aggravate people. I'm not aggravating anybody. You're aggravating me. That's not what they say. They can say whatever the heck they want to say. They could say I was in there dancing on the tables. Well, here's your >> But of course we know that I wasn't. >> Well, this is what we're going to do. We're going to bar you from the property. If you feel like you need to get an attorney to fight the barring notice, then do what you need to do. So, you're going to trespass me from public property when I haven't committed a crime. Look, they have the right to keep you off the property. If I was to be charged with any sort of crime, what crime would you have charged me with today? What would What would it be? Disorderly conduct. How so? I haven't been disorderly. >> there You've been in there acting disorderly. Barely spoke to anybody. Well, we asked you to leave. >> How? And it's opening the door for people as they're coming in and out with big boxes. Is that disorderly? I I don't know. >> That's chivalry, isn't it? I I wasn't here. Stepping out of line so that some elderly lady and her I guess son or whoever it was calls another disturbance. Yeah. That's disorderly. If stepping out of line so that people with a large amount of packages can get their business taken care of. The arguments slowly turn into a direct confrontation, and the line between right and wrong becomes more blurred than ever. The police begin to move from words to action, while the man refuses to back down. And within seconds a decision will be made, one that could change everything. She wants us to serve you one of these criminal trespass notices, which we're which we're going to do. Well, you You don't need to do that. I could just walk away because >> Well, we're going to do that. >> [clears throat] >> I haven't committed a crime yet. It doesn't matter if you have a camera. >> I haven't been warned to leave the property yet. It doesn't have to be. She don't want you to come back. We're going to serve you with this. Yeah? If you need to get an attorney, if you need to do whatever you need to do. That's the way we do it in here, okay? You guys have gotten some bad reports from people lately. Over the past several years, yes, you have. You've gotten several bad reports that you guys do this kind of stuff to people. Right now we're going to focus on this criminal trespass warning. So, what's your name? Uh you can just put the location on there. You don't need to put anything else on there. >> need to put something else on there. Nah. I haven't committed a crime yet. Just listen to me. What's your name? You ain't got no name tag on, do you? They They Did you rent that vest? Is that a Is that a loaner vest or rental vest? You don't even have a name on you. One second. >> [laughter] >> They They've asked us to serve you with criminal trespass. We have to write your name on this paper. That's cordially what I'm asking you to do is for your ID so I can serve you with criminal trespass warning. You're asking me. Yes. I've politely >> I've politely uh reque- I'm giving you a lawful >> My mouth is so dry. Comply with your ID or name for this. Now right now you're obstructing my investigation and my duty. I'm not obstructing anything. I'm going to ask you one more time or I'm going to place you under arrest for obstruction. So, you're going to arrest me when there's no crime been committed yet? You're failing to ID yourself today, which is required by law. When I ask you for ID, If I've committed a crime, what crime have I committed today? You're not getting it. Sovereign citizens, man. They don't think they have to abide by the law. >> I am not saying I am a sovereign citizen. I am here with the same rights as everybody else. I am here trying to express my right as everybody After all the intense arguments, the situation has now reached a point of no return. Every word carries pressure, and one wrong move could set everything off. And then, just seconds later, the decisive moment hits when everything spirals out of control. That's all it's got to be. Well, you can put yourself >> put Joe on there. You can put that on there. That's all you got to put on there. Yeah, that's all you got to put on there. How was that? You don't know my name yet, do you? Right? If I told you my name was Bagwell, would you have thought that that's a false name? Probably so, right? If I tell you to put Joe on there, do you know if that's a false name or not? No, you don't know anything yet, do you? Okay, so stop accusing me of committing a crime when there hasn't been one committed. Stop standing there and trying to trying to put me into a hole that hasn't been dug yet, okay? >> [laughter] >> So, this is what we're going to do. I do need you to put your hands behind your back. You're under arrest for failing to give us your information. What started as a seemingly simple conversation ends in a way no one expected. Was everything that just happened truly by the book, or is this another case of power being pushed too far? Up next, from the very first seconds, the atmosphere feels off. Eyes are watching. Whispers start spreading, and a single camera seems to unsettle everyone. And from that moment on, it becomes the center of a confrontation. How many go then sues? What's your name? May I help you, sir? What's your name? How can I help you? Give me your name. Um may I help you, sir? Perez? You said anything. Can I help you with something? I don't talk to strangers. Okay. The more they talk, the more tense it becomes as simple questions turn into direct challenges. The standoff grows increasingly suffocating until moments later, an unexpected turn begins to shift everything in a way no one saw coming. Good. All right, the gentleman said you were on the property taking pictures. Does it look like it? Well, I'm asking you. That's why do you have some ID on you? Some ID? Yes, some ID. You got a driver's license or an identification card or something. Do you have some ID? Am I obligated to provide it? Oh, yes, you are. What statute is that? >> This is a federal facility. Based on what I got called out to, it said you were on the back of the facility taking pictures. Does this look like the back of this Is this the back of the facility? You said you were engaged in an argument. Could you provide some identification for the police? No. And then you could be on your merry way. Or if not, then you can leave the property cuz the sidewalk and all this is off federal property. I'm going to stay here. What's your badge number, Officer Williams? I can't, actually. You're refusing to identify? Car number 1581. After minutes of tension that seemed to have no way out, the situation suddenly takes a completely different turn as the approach shifts and control begins to change hands. And then, what happens next flips the entire situation in a way no one could have predicted. Okay, so let's let's not play this game. I got my camera as well. Today we have this is white male, about 5'6, 160 lbs. This filming federal employees on federal property refused to answer any questions or refuse to provide any ID. Yeah, now this is this is a federal facility. Are you recording video? I am doing the same thing you are. Okay, just want to be able to open records requests at my department. Okay, this is my personal phone, so you can record request whatever you Okay. But do you have some ID? No. He's pulling up behind you. It's a what offense? I We just need to get you moving along. Okay, this is federal property. You can't be on the property. Am I on federal property? Well, you were. That's what the gentleman just said. You Where was I on this property, did he say? Okay, well, I'm not going to get into all that. Okay, well, I'm standing here on public property, and this is where I'll stay. Really? Did you guys tell that to the Google truck that drove by? Somebody better call Google. They're in a lot of trouble. Just when it seems the tension has reached its peak, everything begins to turn. Confidence and an unexpected approach shift the dynamics, forcing the other side to adjust. And just minutes later, it leads to an ending no one saw coming. Your name again, sir? No? Did we learn a little bit about public photography today? Thank you. Have a good day. I'll stay here till you leave. After everything that's just happened, it seems like the situation is over. But it's not. The man isn't done yet as he continues to pursue the matter in a completely different way, pushing the story into a whole new phase. I don't know. I was talking to a lady, but she took off. I don't know where she went, so I'm not sure if she's getting me what I need or not. I'm I'm I'm requesting a video one of the officers just took down at the post office. I was over there taking pictures. Maybe a gentleman 1581, I believe the car number is. He wouldn't give me his badge number. I think his name is Williams. He's a black officer. Um he took video of me on his personal phone. I want a record request that. So. I'm not familiar with the case. Well, it just happened. Like I just walked over here from the post office 10 minutes ago. So, he's riding around in his car, 1581. >> And the lady who was already helping you, so I don't know. I came up and she said something, and then she took off, so I don't know if she was going to help me or if there's someone else I request that information from. >> on the on the records on the records department. Okay. You want to go inside? >> Is there I didn't know if there was anybody in there. I didn't see that. Oh, okay. Okay. Thank you, guys. And nobody come into the the desk, that's where I'll help you sit down, and they'll show you looking around the camera for security. Okay, but they can help you with anything with reporting. Okay. Okay, so we're good. Yep. Hello. Hello, how can I help you? Uh officer from the the police department here, um car number 1581. I believe his name is Williams. I'm not sure. He was >> [clears throat] >> uh he was just over at the post office here in Winter Park. Uh right down the street, and he took a video of me on his phone. So, I'm I want to request that video to me. Um and also [clears throat] any UL URL history from his phone for today. Okay, one moment. Okay. What just happened may only be the surface. Behind it, a chain of quiet actions is already being set in motion, and the real consequences may be just beginning. Under Section 1983, citizens can sue police for violations of their rights, and officers who cross the line may face compensation payouts, disciplinary action, or even termination. When power isn't paired with accountability, or when personal rights aren't matched with proper conduct, >> [music] >> conflict becomes almost inevitable. Hey, everyone. What do you think about this situation? If you enjoyed the video, don't forget to like, subscribe, [music] and support us with a donation. Thank you so much.
