How are you? I don't know what happened. You were asked to leave? From where? From Aviator? I've never been there. Yeah. They can ask me to leave from public property. They can ask you to leave private property, correct. That is considered private property. There's security here, okay? They have the right to refuse service, okay? All right. >> In a public building? Even though if you guys are if they're if they're threat if they're if you guys' behavior is deemed threatening, then All I'm doing is walking around with the camera. You saw what I was doing when you walked up the stairs. I'm not acting threatening. When rookie officers face [music] legally informed citizens, authority and knowledge begin to collide. I will never go to that casino. So, you can go tell them that I will never step a foot there. >> That's That's what I'm going to say. Okay. They don't want you back in the I've never been there. So, they can tell me that I they don't want me back cuz I've never been there, man. Stay tuned and witness [music] how these police officers are held accountable for their own misconduct. Visiting a famous casino for the first time to film, but immediately surrounded and warned. The atmosphere tense as a drawn bow with power and freedom clashing intensely. What is it that you're doing around here? What do you mean? Says who? Why can I film? You can't film the back? Where what back? Oh, the back? Well, I already did and my delete button broke down. I see. And you're going to have to leave. Why? What are you videoing? Right now I'm videoing you and I I was videoing the casino, too. Personal purposes. What kind of person Uh who are you? What kind of person are you? Personal. What do you mean for what? Like can you move a little bit? Like you're ruining my shot here. What? I can't hear you. If you get closer, that'll be great cuz man, the traffic is bad. Me to leave? Yeah, you have to Well, I still haven't finished. I still got to go to the back and then the front over there and take pictures. What? Personal purposes. Can you just What? Couldn't hear you. The traffic is too loud, man. I don't get you. Well, I'm going to go to the back, take some shots, then I'll come around over there, too. Can you leave me alone, though? I'm married. My wife is going to get mad if you follow me. When the police were called, everything seemed under control, but power and the law began to clash, revealing a dramatic ambiguity between authority and the citizenry. How are you? Good. I don't know what happened. You were asked to leave? From where? From Aviator? I've never been there. You've never been there? No. I've been in public property, that's different. >> Correct. You are correct. Yeah. They can ask me to leave from public property. They can ask you to leave private property, correct. That is considered private property. I mean, public property. They cannot ask me to leave public property. >> They have that right to ask you to leave. Not from public property. They can ask you to leave. Not from public property. This is sidewalk, dude. You might want to check that with Mr. Navarrete. Man, what's up with this guy here? Are you going to train him or something? Jesus Christ. Apparently, he thinks that I'm they're allowed to tell me to leave public property, which they have no right to do that. So, he's about to get trained right now. I guess. Anyways. Let me see what call did they got today. Let me see what was the call. Should have trained him already. But apparently, I'm going to have to pay him a visit. You guys remember that picture I took with Mr. Navarrete? Uh we had a little meeting there. So, apparently, I don't know if he talked to them. I don't know. I guess I'm going to have to give him a like a refresher training thing there. Warnings and threats of arrest emerged, yet every argument about rights on the public sidewalk shifted the balance of the situation. Yes, I did. Okay. >> Um they're requesting that you not come back to their business. I've never been to their business. Okay. Well, I'm telling you now. I don't like that casino. I like I like Tachi. I like Eagle. That casino, I will never go to that casino. So, you can go tell them that I will never step a foot there. >> That's That's what I'm going to say. Okay. They don't want you back in the >> I've never been there. So, they can tell me that I they don't want me back cuz I've never been there, man. Okay. Well, I'm telling you now. Yeah. That if you come back >> I've never been there. I've never been there. It doesn't matter. >> Apparently, you don't know the trespass laws, right? First is a warning, second is a ticket, then the third one then the third Well, give me my official warning, then. I'm warning you. >> Written one. Man, come on. I do this for a living, man. You're going to come and tell me my my my the law? Really? Go ahead. If you're going to leave, you need to leave the premises, okay? This is not their premises. All right. This is public property. >> okay? >> This is public property here. >> You've been warned. You have a >> So, is that a Is that a threat? No. One warning, if you do something stupid, I'll sue your ass. So, you might want to talk to Mr. Navarrete. He should It was supposed to talk to you guys about this. Tell him Casey Camera Boy was here. Later, peasant. Man, what's up with these people here and Really, they want to tell me stuff here. I was expecting an official warning here. Hey, they're calling you. Dotter. There they go. You're being warned. You'll be subject to arrest. Blah blah blah. Shut up. Everything ended without any arrests, yet the tension, threats, and pressure of authority left a long-lasting story about freedom. He looks annoyed over there. Well, at least I got a good shot of the plane going in. So, that'll be the guy there. He might be that one. He's going to close it now. Let take camera. Not sure if he's camera-friendly or not. But I guess. I wonder what is he doing there. Tony, California casinos are owned by Native Americans. I think it is the same way in um and Vegas. Citizens can sue police officers under SS 1983 when their rights are violated. Officers who break the law may be required to pay damages and face disciplinary action or termination. Police abuse of power can lead to seriously consequences, ranging from civil liability to internal disciplinary actions, and even criminal prosecution. Up next, just two people, two cameras, yet within minutes, the entire city hall was on high alert. She just ran into the back. Have uh just so you guys know, too, they have some very uh sneaky little harassment and alarming laws here in North Dakota. Uh so, you got to be careful that you don't alarm somebody or create a situation because uh that is technically frowned upon here. Um you just have to be careful about how you do it and what you do. Cuz if you know, they're definitely calling somebody. I'm sure. They're upset. So, just so you guys let's put this whole thing into a contest here. So, this is I don't know if you guys can see that from how far away we are. >> building But uh few people over there in that window. They're all having a fit in there. Taking video. Um alarming law here. People are getting alarmed here. So, just think about that. We're not saying anything for me. Think about that. Just look at what we're doing and uh think about the fact that what we're doing right now might be alarming you. How ridiculous that is. Standing outside of a public building, which has some very interesting architecture and art going on. And uh you know, that kind of photographs and things going on. So, it looks like they all evacuated over there. None of them are in the window anymore. ridiculous Oh, they're closing those shades over there. Are they? Yep. Yeah, those two on the left, they just put them down. They don't want us to look in. They act like we're like pressed up against the glass trying to film inside of it. ridiculous No shouting, no threats, no trespassing, yet the curtains were drawn. Staff panicked and watchful eyes began to appear. What's that? Don't tell me you ran here. >> No, do you have a Can you just lift up your firearm? >> Absolutely not. Okay. All right, you guys aren't armed with anything? >> Nope, not even a pocket knife. All right, what's going on? >> We I was when I was walking around outside. Okay. All right. >> But I left it in my truck before I came in. I know what the laws is. Okay, perfect. What are you guys up to? Just checking out your city hall. Checking out city hall? Okay. You guys from here? >> Beautiful building, no. No, where are you guys from? Well, that's a that's a I choose to answer some questions, some questions I may not, but I'll have the conversation with you. Okay. All right. Is there anything wrong with taking video here? I don't have a firearm on me. So, no, you're you're good. >> I have no I don't even have a pocket knife on me. So, We're very we're very well versed in the law and we are not Okay, I was like front door says no firearms allowed. Yeah, no, we know that. So, we spoke with >> Hey, can I just get a name and badge number so I know who I'm speaking to? Officer Cordy, 38. And badge number? 612. >> 612. And you, sir? Officer Marvig, it's 530. Thank you very much, I appreciate Um, so we I'm sorry. So, we spoke with Mr. Lindberg, okay? I don't know who that is. He's a Yep, so he's in charge of security and stuff here, okay? And he said that based on your guys' conduct and just behavior, walking around with the holster and stuff like that, is they would like you guys trespassed from the building, okay? And removed from the grounds, okay? You're not facing like charges, nothing like that. >> They would like us trespassed Did I Did I violate a law? Um, so because they're he's in charge of their security here, okay? They have the right to refuse service, okay? All right. In a public building? >> [music] >> Even though if you guys are if they're if their threat If their if you guys' behavior is deemed threatening, then All I'm doing is walking around with the camera. You saw what I was doing when you walked up the stairs. I'm not acting threatening. I'm being very cordial, actually. A guy named Brock Morrison came outside. Mhm. I had a very cordial conversation with him. Okay. All right. Nobody asked us to leave. Nobody told us we couldn't And and yep, and so then we're we're just kind of speaking on their behalf that they would like you guys The police arrived, seemingly ready to bring things to a close, yet a single move reversed the entire situation, pushing the incident to the delicate edge of authority. I did my homework. I can promise you that. Okay. All right. And that's why even I'll tell you why I'm not wearing a face mask. I'm not wearing a face mask because your mayor, Mahoney, signed an executive order in October of last year saying paragraph I of that executive order in the exemption says that if you're broadcasting or doing that kind of a thing, you don't have to have a mask. That's why I don't have a mask on. So, and So, we're really trying to follow your rules and regulations. >> that's fine. Like I said, there's nothing. So, how are we going to resolve it? What would you like to do? >> I just want to walk around the rest of the building and then I'm going to leave and be out of your hair and you'll probably never see me again. Mind if we just I have one of my officers walk with you and that's it? About the house and you're out. That's up to you. You can have all your officers I don't know what you said. Do you cool with that? I have absolutely no issue with anybody else can do whatever they want to do. I have no issue with that. All right. Sure? All right. We have no nefarious intent. No ill will. We're not looking to bother anybody. We're not We're not just here to take a video. So, And you are right. I mean, in the public sector that you have the right to be able to make videos and stuff like that. And and and that's fine. My concern, again, gentlemen, I heard what you said, but I haven't been able to talk to anybody or find out if this is supposed to be locked because if it was cuz that's why they have that system out there where there's got a camera to be able to buzz and be able to talk. Yeah, I know when they were going through the whole COVID protocol thing, it was like that. We were here 10 months ago. And they actually were nice enough to let us in even at that time. They let us do a little quick tour of the building, but there was nobody here. There was nothing going on. It was a very boring video. So, we came back and just And there's a little bit more excitement this time. Yeah, a little bit. Yeah. No, but you're being very cordial and professional and I appreciate that. Well, you haven't done anything wrong and there's no reason to be anything other than that, to Right. I appreciate that. And I just, you know, I it's it's very And I'm going to tell you what we're doing here since you're being that way. Part of what we're doing is Okay, what we do is Again, this is my son. I don't know if you heard me say that. Uh, what we do is we travel the country. We've been doing this for almost 2 years, okay? And what we do is we defend our Constitution. Okay. Okay? So, what this is is a First Amendment audit, okay? You're probably aware of that. All right. So, what we do is Now, there's a lot of First Amendment auditors out there who go out and try to rile people up and instigate and drive people nuts and get into situations and file lawsuits and do that kind of thing. That's not us. We're a whole different ball of wax. I'm trying to have these conversations with law enforcement, with security people, with the people that work at city halls and you make the wheels turn, the people that have their feet on the ground here. And that's what we try to do. We try to be productive. [snorts] We try to educate ourselves, educate the people that we speak to. We have a couple of people that watch our videos uh, that really appreciate what we do and support what we do. And No handcuffs, no charges, no arrests, yet the right to remain in a public space was suddenly cut short. All right, guys, my battery's done. I'm going to make this quick. Uh, you saw how that went here in Fargo, North Dakota at the city hall. Um, I mean, word of the day here is inconsistency, I would say. Um, I mean, from one office to the next, you have somebody freaking out and then the other uh, nice uh, girl behind the counter in one of those offices. I think she said her name was Maddie, uh, who invited us into the back restricted area. So, uh, very inconsistent here. Um, you know, from office to office and also uh, how quickly they changed their minds when they realized uh, what was going on and they had to have it explained to them by police officers. Um, you know, so it went from we're going to get thrown out to uh, we're fine to be doing what we're doing. Um, so, you know, hopefully these people learn something today. Uh, police, uh, the employees here and everybody else. And hopefully they got educated and won't be uh, freaking out like that over a camera next time. So, it took two visits on this one to get some education across here. Uh, but uh, you saw how that went. So, uh, if you have any feedback for anybody in this video, I'll put contact info for as many departments in city hall as I can and uh, public employees if I got their name and uh, the police department. I'll put contact info for all that as usual. The incident ended in silence with no arrests and no prosecutions, yet its echoes remain about freedom, fear, and the exercise of power. A routine investigation suddenly turned into a human rights disaster. On September 3rd, 2020, officers from the San Diego Police Department went to Ronald Martell's home to investigate a domestic violence incident. However, what unfolded was a chaotic and troubling situation. >> [snorts] >> Stop moving. I'm going to hold these stairs over here. You guys stop moving. Officers continued to restrain Martell face down, a position considered dangerous and often prohibited due to the risk to life. Worse yet, they began treating him in a bizarre and unjustified manner. Tensions escalated further as they escorted Martel to the patrol vehicle. You're only Help. Help, please. Please help. I need an ambulance, please. >> Stop fighting, man. I need an ambulance, please.
