The reg- the registration, like is ridiculous right now, because >> What do you mean? >> It's a refrigerator. >> What's a refrigerator? >> All right, everybody, welcome back. We've got another good video for you. This one is by Arrested Lens. "Steaks, Pills, and Sobriety Test. Mom's Shocking DUI Arrest." Let's go. >> Hey, ma'am. How are you? Officer Albinis, Westfield Police Department. >> Hi. >> Do you have your license, registration, proof of insurance? >> The reg- the registration, like is ridiculous right now, because >> Okay, I don't think it takes a a seasoned police officer or deputy to realize there might be a problem here. >> What do you mean? >> It's a refrigerator. >> What's a refrigerator? >> The like And then I >> 31. >> What's up? >> So, some of these cars, fancy cars, Escalades, other things, will have a a refrigerator in like the center console. I don't know if that's what she's referring to, but it sounds ridiculous, like she says. >> Uh do do you have your registration and your proof of insurance? >> Yeah. >> What do you mean it's a refrigerator? >> Where is he? So, I usually put my like the registration in this, cuz it's like a It's a refrigerator. >> One attention. >> There you go. So, why do you put your registration in there? >> Well, normally I >> Do you do you have your registration, proof of insurance? >> Yeah. >> So, >> Yeah, 400. What's their exact location? >> Paige, where are you coming from today? >> I am coming from home. >> Okay, and where's home? >> Like 2 minutes away. >> You're coming from You're coming from home? >> Yeah. >> But So, you're heading home, but okay. >> All right, so reason I'm stopping you is because we got a few phone calls about this vehicle. Yeah, it was being driven uh in a careless manner. Under the speed limit, all over the road. >> When officers first approached Paige, what stood out wasn't just her nervousness, it was her confusion. >> [music] >> Saying her registration was in a refrigerator immediately raised red flags. This wasn't just a routine stop. Multiple calls had already warned police about her erratic driving. That combination, community concern, plus her unusual responses, set the stage for what was about to unfold. >> So, yeah, I mean, like if somebody's calling, we we've had that a lot where somebody will call and we get behind the vehicle and sure enough, their driving behavior is consistent with somebody under the influence of drugs or alcohol. >> Yeah. All right, did you have anything to drink today? >> No. >> Okay. Are you sure? >> I don't drink. >> You don't drink? >> No. >> Okay. Is there a reason that I'm I'm smelling something like alcohol from this vehicle? >> Really? >> Yes. >> What do you smell? What do you smell? >> Alcohol. >> What appears to be an alcoholic beverage, yeah. >> Oh, no, no, definitely >> And I asked for your registration and you said that you you keep your registration in the refrigerator. >> I say that because I don't normally get pulled over and I don't know, but like >> So, where okay. >> Hi. Oh my god, there's another guy. Hi. >> All right. I mean, at this point, are you thinking there's something wrong? Clearly, there is uh that under the influence of something here. >> No. >> You guys can do whatever you want to do. Like I don't know. It's so bizarre. >> Okay. So, are you are you able to locate those those documents for me or no? >> What? Like the registration and proof of insurance? >> She's like, "What?" >> You need 400, yeah. >> Is the is the car in park, ma'am? >> Yes. What? >> The car's in park? >> Yes. >> Okay. Would you mind turning the car off for me? >> drive it. It's off. >> All right. Thank you. Can you turn it off? >> She's so confused. >> All right. Thank you. >> So confused. >> step out of the vehicle for me, please? >> Oh my god, this is insane. >> Okay. >> So, Paige, I'm going to ask you again. Did you have anything to drink today? >> No. >> Did you are you on any kind of medication? >> No. >> Okay. Any any narcotics? Any drugs? Anything like that? >> Narcotics? No. >> Okay. >> I'm like I am a 42-year-old woman that >> 42-year-old woman with children. Well done, Paige. Well done. I don't know if I'd It's you're setting the best example leaving the house dressed like this, but >> I know. >> Okay. So, the reason that I had you step out of the vehicle, I'm a little concerned with a few things. >> Okay. >> Uh like I said, we >> Land Rover? >> phone calls for this vehicle being driven in a concerning manner. Okay. Uh I asked you for your registration and you said that it's in the refrigerator. >> I I've not been like like pulled over in so long that I don't like it's not like a Yeah. Like I don't know. >> We don't know. Okay. Paige, are you willing to do some field sobriety test for us just to make sure that you're good to drive? >> I don't want to do sobriety test. >> Paige, before we do that, can you just read her rights? >> Sure. So >> just listen to him real quick. >> So Paige, you have the right to remain >> I You don't really need to read her rights. She's not um I mean, yes, she's not free to go, but this isn't standard. We don't typically read the rights before we do surprise sobriety test cuz if she passes the sobriety test, then she's free to go. Um I don't know why this guy chimed in with that. Doesn't make >> Silent. Okay. You listening? You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand that? >> Yes. >> Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. Do you understand that? >> Yes. >> You have the right to an attorney. Do you understand that? If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you at no expense to you on our behalf. Do you understand that? Okay. So with that >> why I hadn't read her rights is that your stuff in the back of the car? Like your purse, do you have a purse in the back? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you have anything else back there? >> Oh my god. >> of. No, no, hear me out. >> He's explaining why he wanted to Mirandize her. >> Is there anything back there that we should know about? >> I'm curious. >> What's filled mom? You guys are so freaking rude. >> There's pills right there in plain view. >> Crazy. >> One thing at a time. Like this officer explained to you, we want to make sure you're okay to drive. So we'd be able to do some field sobriety test just to make sure you're good to drive. Okay. All right. >> So what he noticed was some pills in the back seat, so he's trying to ascertain whether they're hers or not. Now they might be starting to put the picture together even better. Um So >> So let us get set up and then we'll put you through the field sobriety test to make sure you're good to drive, okay? Ma'am, take your hands Do you have a shirt in the car? You want to put your shirt on with that one? >> Yeah. Sure. >> Do you have a shirt with you? >> I'll grab it. >> She is completely at ease and comfortable. >> I'm going to grab your shirt for you. You can stand over there with him. >> Where is your shirt? >> Can you just stand back here where you were? >> Okay. >> Can I grab the shirt? >> Can Whatever you can do. Drive. I'm laying down. Fine. >> All right. Do you give Officer Simmons permission to grab your shirt? >> Sure. >> All right. You can grab it. If there is one. Do you usually go shopping for steaks without a shirt on? I mean, you said you were going >> I mean >> No, it's a little unusual that, you know, you're standing here in a bra. You said that you were just picking up steaks. >> I'm in a bra. >> Fine. >> It looks like a bra to me. >> Okay. All right. You want to do it here? Yeah, you want to do it? My camera's on. You can do it right on that. Right over here if you want. All right. >> All right, Paige. All this officer is going to >> This ought to be interesting. >> like after he explains everything. All right. So, these two officers are going to put you through standard field sobriety tests because we believe you're driving impaired. That's pretty much what it comes down to. Okay. Ma'am, you need to do my test on your Were glasses or anything like that? >> Going to do the HGN. >> If she wants to wear these, give her the option to wear these for the test. >> You want >> No shoes, no shirt. >> Put your arms out. Put your arms out to your side. But you will move your head. Try not to move your head. Keep following these fingers. Keep your hands out of your pockets. >> So dumb. >> Can you keep your hands out of your pockets, Paige? >> Fine. Go. >> They're in your pocket. Take them out. Take your hands out of your pockets. Keep them at your side just like that. >> All right, folks. Let's be honest. The math just isn't adding up lately. Between the grocery store prices going up, skyrocketing insurance premiums, it's getting harder and harder even with a steady job to make ends meet. And a lot more people are relying on those high-interest credit cards to do that. To prove that point, we went from 800 billion dollars to 1.2 or 1.3 trillion dollars in American credit card debt. So, this is becoming a real issue. So, if you're a homeowner and you're caught in that cycle, carrying balances with interest rates in the 20s and 30s, which most credit cards are, it's time to get some relief. Okay? Right now, mortgage rates are at a 3-year low, thankfully. And my friends at American Financing are helping homeowners pay off that high-interest debt. And they're getting your rates down into the low fives. So, their salary-based mortgage consultant, which is what I love about it, they don't push loans. They build exit strategies from debt. On average, they're saving their customers $800 a month. Plus, if you start today, you may even delay the next two mortgage payments, which is a big help. There are no upfront fees or obligations, and you can find out how much you can save. So, America's home for home loans is American Financing. Call 888-995-2440. That's 888-995-2440. Or, you can go to americanfinancing.net /lam. Now, let's get back to our video. >> Step on my finger? >> I'm going to be [ __ ] >> I'm going to be very nice. If you fall and step on my finger, >> Get your ass off me. Keep moving your head. >> So that you go out at a 45° angle and then you go out a little further. He's checking if they're bouncing at a 45° angle or if they bounce way out here. We talked about if it if you go up and down and then the eyes are bouncing. It can show higher levels of intoxication. >> All right, Paige. Do you have any issues with your balance? Do you have any injuries to your feet or your legs that I should know about? Okay. So the next step the next >> She's being super nice. >> Okay. Would you like to wear shoes for this? We found flip-flops in your car. >> This is insane. Okay, fine. I'll wear mine. >> You could wear You could wear shoes or you could go barefoot. It's up to you. If you'd like to wear shoes, you can put them on, okay? >> Oh my gosh. I kind of want to marry somebody who's like who's like interesting. >> I kind of want to marry somebody who's what? All right. Um >> So here So one leg is stand test, okay? So I'm going to explain the test to you, okay? >> the tree pose? >> It's going to be the one leg stand test, okay? I'm going to explain to you, okay? You understand? >> Yes, first. >> So starting position for this test is going to be both feet together, arms at your side, okay? Do you understand that? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Nine step walk first. >> Nine step first? >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. We're actually going to do the nine step walk. >> I don't know if the guy in the background is a trainer. Um he kind of seems like he's training the guy that's doing the test right now. >> walk and test first, okay? So I'm going to explain the test, then you're going to attempt it, okay? You're going to imagine a straight line in front of you. Okay? Starting position is going to be your left leg, left foot planted, with your right foot in front like this, okay? You understand that? Okay? Arms at your side, okay? From this starting position, you are going to take nine heel-to-toe steps. They're going to look like this, okay? One. Two. Three. Four. I did four, you will do nine, okay? Do you understand that? >> Do you understand that the people in this town and like >> Can you just Paige, can you just focus on the test? I'm trying to explain the test. >> It's so [ __ ] up. >> I know, but I'm trying to explain the test, okay? >> Okay. >> So, I Paige, you left your house in a bra. >> Yeah. >> On your ninth step, you would take a series of small, stop, choppy steps with your right foot, and you will turn around and face that imaginary line, okay? So, again, it's going to look something like this. One. Two. Three. Four. Then you will take a series of small, choppy steps. You will turn around and face that line again. You will then take another nine steps, okay? As such. One. Two. Three. Four. Again, I did four steps, you will do nine, okay? After you finish your ninth step, after you turn around, test will be complete, okay? Do you understand that? Okay. Would you like to give it a shot? >> Yes. >> Yes. All >> One. Two. >> Miss. >> Three. Four. I turn around? >> So, so I did four, you will do nine, okay? >> Oh, I do nine? >> You're going to take heel-to-toe steps. >> Okay. >> Imagine a straight line in front of you. You will take nine. >> One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. Yes? >> And nine and back. >> Dude, this is how I explained it, okay? >> Okay. And then you want to do a back. >> Yes, I explained nine steps back, okay? >> One. Two. >> So, if you're missing, your heel the toe is not touching, that's going to count. She's just walking. >> Oh, good. >> Sometimes these smaller gals can have pretty good balance even when they're intoxicated. >> Together. Hands at your side, okay? >> But she did not do well on that test. >> Which leg? Whichever leg you're more comfortable with, you're going to raise that leg approximately Paige, are you focusing on the Can you listen? We're trying to give you an opportunity to complete these tests, okay? >> All right. >> Can you stand Can you stand right here in front of your vehicle? And can you give me your focus? >> That's definitely the trainer in the background. >> As I said, feet together, arms at your side. Whichever leg is more comfortable, you're going to take that leg and you are going to raise it so that it is approximately 6 in off the ground. You're also going to keep your foot parallel with the ground. Do you understand that, okay? >> Yeah. >> With your leg raised, you're going to count out loud in the following manner: 1,001, 1,002, 1,003, so on and so forth until I tell you to stop, okay? Do you understand that? >> Sure. >> Okay. Do you have any questions regarding this test? >> No. >> I'm trying to give you every opportunity here, okay? Would you like to attempt the test? >> Sure. >> Go ahead. >> Is this like a something I should be like, I need my lawyer for? No. >> Not for the field sobriety test, no. >> All right, okay. >> One. >> So, you would notate can't keep her balance. Hands weren't down at side. >> How long do you need to be? >> So, I told you you're going to want to count out loud, 1,001, 1,002, 1,003, so on and so forth until I tell you to stop, okay? >> All right. But what if I couldn't do that in in general? >> Well, that's why I asked you, do you have any issues with your legs, any issue with your balance that I should know about? You told me no. Okay, so you know, I'm giving you every opportunity here to complete this test. >> do that. >> [laughter] >> Look at these guys. >> Have you had any issues balancing? >> I mean, [ __ ] >> Could Could you do a balancing test? We're going to give you another chance. Can you balance on one leg? >> No, I can't balance. >> Do you have an injury or something that's preventing you from it? >> I mean, I do CrossFit, but like I'm >> So you think you can do a balance? Maybe without the shoes? You want to try taking your shoes off real quick? >> I don't I don't want to interrupt. >> The officer is >> How do you know somebody does CrossFit? Don't worry, they'll tell you. >> [laughter] >> trying to determine if you're going to be arrested for DWI or not. >> Sorry for all of you who do CrossFit. >> them wrong that you're not impaired to to do that test, then do it. But e- either way, they have to make a determination. So if you'd like to do it, do it. If not, then tell them you won't do it. >> What's What's the smart thing to do? >> We're trying to give you every benefit of the doubt in this case. So I'm going to give you another chance if you want to take your shoes off. >> Oh my god, this is so shitty for like a Westfield like [ __ ] So sad. >> You want to give it another try? >> Sure. >> All right. Do you remember how >> It won't matter. They're They're already going to arrest her. >> No. I'm going to explain it one more time, okay? >> Okay. >> The one-legged stand. It's not complicated, okay? Keep both feet planted >> Yes. >> together, arms at your side. That's going to be your starting position. Do you understand? >> Got it. >> Taking whichever leg is more comfortable for you, you're going to raise that leg so that it is approximately 6 in off the ground and so that your foot is parallel with the ground. It's going to look something like this, okay? >> long does that have to have to have >> You're going to count out loud in the following manner: 1,001, 1,002, 1,003, and so on and so forth until I tell you to stop, okay? You are going to do both of those things simultaneously, the one-legged stand and the counting. Do you understand that? >> Do you understand what he said? >> Yeah, I understand. He said it's like crazy. >> [laughter] >> All right, go ahead. >> All right. While you're doing it, don't raise your arms and balance. Keep them at your side. >> What [ __ ] 43-year-old woman can do that? >> 43 now, was 42. >> While you're doing it, keep your arms at your side, keep your foot parallel, and look at your foot while you're doing it. If you put your foot down, you >> How long do I have to go? >> I told you you will count in the following manner. 1,001, 1,002, 1,003, and so on and so forth until I tell you to stop, okay? I've I've explained that multiple times. >> Which is part of it. You'll note that has trouble understanding directions. >> That's starting moment. >> You may begin. You may start. >> For 10 Just hold my foot up. >> All right, we're done. All right. >> There you go. At least she's not resisting. >> Oh, you guys can't say Hey, y'all. I'll do anything. No, no, this is for my kids. You can't do this. >> All right, just call that when you're ready. >> I have two kids that are very important. >> Delta two. We're trying to make sure that you get home to your children safely. >> you can't do this. >> Oh. She did it. >> We're going to have one adult female under 450. Can you just back your toes here for John's walk? >> Oh, man. Towing her car, too. >> Where's her purse? >> This is for my kids. >> Where is it? >> Do you have a purse? >> Is there anyone else in the house? >> You guys can't do this. >> Is there anyone home with your kids now? >> No. >> Where do you live? >> So, most of DUIs, you will probably not go to jail. You're going to go down to the station, you're going to get processed, and then somebody can come and pick you up, or obviously you can't drive home. And her car is getting towed, so somebody would come and pick her up, and then um she can try to get her car a few days later. So, that's how it typically goes. It's a sight and release and you send them on their way. And she's being cooperative, so. >> When Paige pleaded about her children, the moment turned heartbreaking. The officers weren't just enforcing the law, [music] they were protecting lives, including hers and her kids. Driving impaired doesn't just risk your own safety, it risks [music] everyone on the road. And while Paige insisted she was fine, her performance and the evidence told another story. >> [music] >> This case shows the painful intersection of personal responsibility and public safety. >> Paige, if you if you understand that we're doing our job, then you should know that there's nothing that can be done at this point. It's already done, okay? It's already done, Paige. I know. >> This is a bad thing to do to my life. >> Delta 2. They didn't do it. I'll be transporting one adult female from this location to headquarters. Man, you have some real heart-to-heart conversations when people get arrested, when you put them in the back of the car, the reality sets in for a lot of people and they just start feeling terrible. And we used to tell people like, "This is a bad decision, but it's not that it doesn't shouldn't define who you are. You can get through it." >> Starting mileage, 17547. >> So, you always call out your starting mileage. When you're transporting a female or a juvenile, you will call out your starting mileage so that when you get to the jail, you call out your ending mileage. So, if should something any accusations be made or anything happen, you can show that you drove straight to the jail. There was no deviations. It uh it's a um it's something we do to cover ourselves. >> Delta 2, 20-37. >> No, it's important. Like >> Delta one essential. You can turn my cell following uh Delta papers. Delta one. >> It's not the It's not the police that are doing this. Hey, Jeff. When you drive in the condition that you're in, you take you take the risk of getting injured or worse, and that's that's that's terrible for your children, okay? So, >> Look, I know I've brought this up before. We We experienced this. Somebody driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol killed our kids. And trust me, this is Her getting a DUI is far better than uh taking the life of somebody else or hurting somebody or if that Thankfully, so her kids weren't with her. >> do? We do uh with your children's interest in mind, okay? >> We're arriving at headquarters. Ending mileage 17548.2. >> 38 point 1 >> At least she's not fighting. We're used to these people just throwing a fit and fighting and Why aren't my keys not working? >> 10-4, we're 10-7 605 9 up. >> You got brown stairs. >> We're 10-4. >> All right, Paige. >> So [ __ ] up. Can you just like it's like so tight on my arms. >> I know we're going to help you. All right. All right. Walk this way. Okay. >> Oh my god. >> We're just going to assist you into the building. Okay. Not a convict, but yes arrested. >> Lost all my respect for for >> Watch your step. Watch your step. >> 400 200 >> I should have called West Field >> How do you going to lose the respect for us? Or for them? >> I apologize, Paige. That was my fault. >> I'm pretty sure all the guys are going to show up to see this. Well, all of a sudden they had to go to the station. Well, that's it. I'm I'm surprised that we didn't get the final results, but uh my guess is they charged with DUI and that she was released. Um probably pills, probably Xanax. A lot of the soccer mom arrest DUIs we would have we'd have a lot of DUIs in the morning when parents moms were taking kids to school under the influence of Xanax or some other um sleep aid or something like that. And we did happens far more than you would think and this is kind of that situation where prob maybe she didn't drink, but they did smell alcohol. So alcohol combined with uh pills, Xanax is even worse and this might have been the case on this. I don't know what end up happen. I'm guessing she got the DUI, uh but let me know what you think. Do you go shopping like this? Is this what you look like when uh you how you dress when you go shopping? Um She's got a lot of confidence. That's for sure. So let me know what you think.
