CHECK FOR ME. ARE YOU GAY? [screaming] >> THIS was already a concerning [music] shots fired call when a mother entered this mobile home to simply check on her son. But nobody knows that this is only the beginning of a horror that will leave even the toughest officers shaken for a long time. >> One way to go to hell right there. The horror begins around 10:51 a.m. on Sunday, July 24th, 2022, when a resident of a mobile home park in Harmony Township, Ohio, alerts dispatch after hearing multiple gunshots coming from a neighbor's trailer. >> Hello. >> 91 location emergency. >> South Charleston, Ohio. >> There was shots fired inside this trailer. I'm just a neighbor. And there was somebody that broke into the house and there was gunshots like and some screamed Does it sound like anybody was shot? >> Yes. There's a woman that got inside the house and she's not answering and there's a woman yelling at her. >> Okay. >> So, I think they were doing like a welfare check on on this guy that lives in that house. >> How many shots were fired? >> At least five or six. >> What this neighbor doesn't know is that the woman who has just stepped inside the trailer is 47year-old Jodie Arbuckle, who has entered to check on her son, 27-year-old Cole White. And as the gunshots ring through the neighborhood, Jod's wife, Kristen, also calls 911, clearly panicked and struggling to understand what may have happened inside. >> 911, what's the location of your emergency? Army is safe. Please hurry. >> What's the address? What's the address? What's the address? Please, >> ma'am, what's the address? Okay. WHAT'S GOING ON? >> I DON'T KNOW. PLEASE HURRY. >> I I need you to calm down so I can understand you. What's going on? >> She went inside for a son. Please hurry. >> Are you saying someone's been shot? >> I DON'T KNOW. WE JUST got robbed here the other night. Hurry. >> Ma'am. Ma'am, I I need to get you help. We have another call, but I need you to calm down and tell me what's going on. >> We came out. That's what the police told us to do. Please. They're They're coming, but I can't I can't understand what's going on. They're They're in route to you. Say what? I heard a scream. >> They're They're coming to you. Are you saying that someone's been shot? >> I don't know. >> Okay. Are you in the house? >> I'm afraid. >> Ma'am, >> ma'am, they're coming to you. Can you take some deep breaths and calm down so I can understand you? >> They're coming. >> PLEASE SAY SOMETHING. >> [laughter] >> I GOT your >> ma'am. >> Man, who lives there? >> Co white. Call white. Co >> Conway. >> Oh, please go. [screaming] >> Okay, they're they're coming to you. Okay. Did Did he himself? >> Why don't you go with me? 2 days earlier on July 22nd, 2022, Jod called 911 after Cole stopped responding. [music] A friend checking on him saw Cole inside his trailer with a firearm after he refused to open the [music] door. Officers arrived around 11:35 p.m., but were unable to contact [music] Cole or confirm he was inside. With no sufficient reason to force entry and no evidence confirming that Cole was planning to harm himself, officers [music] documented the incident and left. But now, as Clark County deputies respond to [music] the same location, they don't know that this is only the beginning of a nightmare far beyond anything they had imagined. >> WHERE WHERE'S EVERYBODY AT? TELL ME SOMETHING, MA'AM. I GOT TO KNOW MORE THAN I'M JUST BUSTING IN, telling what I got. >> Listen, my little Jody Ar lives here. We had the police out here the other day. >> All right. >> I had contact HERE. COME BACK HERE. I HAD CONTACT WITH HER AND then >> so WHO'S IN THERE? >> COLD LIGHT and he SCREAMED AND SHE SAID HE'S LIKE I'M SORRY AND I HEARD YOU GOT TO GO [screaming] GET HER. >> THERE'S TWO PEOPLE IN THERE. >> YOU GOT TO GO GET HER. PLEASE >> TELL ME. MA'AM, you got TO BE CALM. >> TWO PEOPLE. >> ALL RIGHT. WE just don't walk in. You get get away from the door. >> GOT HER FRIEND WAS SCREAMING. >> AND THERE'S A GUY that went in there. >> IT'S HER SON. >> A GUY. HE HAS MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. We called you guys out the other day, even >> go over there, please. Please go over there. >> Nobody knows yet what has happened inside the trailer, but with a firearm in there, officers know they could be walking into a potential lethal situation. Still, with one or both lives possibly at risk, they're willing to take their chances. >> Get geared up and we'll go. Okay, we're going to clear this 12 meg. >> I'm moving. Where you at? >> You want to wait for Oie? You want to go in there? We're heading now. >> Sheriff's office. >> Sheriff's office. Open the door. Hands up. >> While deputies wait to hear from Cole or Jod inside, dispatch uncovers that this is not Cole's first encounter with law enforcement. On August 3rd, 2021, two women contacted the Yellow Springs Police Department, reporting that an intoxicated man, later identified as Cole, was following them, making unwanted advances, and using a knife to intimidate them. Officers found Cole passed out in his car in a nearby parking lot. And a search of him and the vehicle uncovered a loaded handgun in his waistband, another handgun, and multiple knives in the center council. With his concealed carry weapon, CCW permit already revoked. Cole was booked into the Green County Jail on a felony charge of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle. He was later released on bond with standard conditions requiring him to attend future criminal proceedings in Green County common police court. But as the case progressed into 2022, Cole stopped responding to his attorney and missed a mandatory pre-trial hearing because skipping a felony court date violated his bond conditions. A judge issued a warrant for his arrest. So, when Jod climbed through Cole's mobile home window during the wellness check, she was not only trying to find out if her son was safe, but also why he was avoiding his family and is pending court obligations. Now, deputies understand the urgency of the situation and the potential threat Jod faces as they approach a residence tied to a fugitive with a documented history of carrying illegal loaded weapons. But what they don't realize yet is that Cole is far more dangerous than they could have imagined. See if that lady does. I doubt it. >> Live here. You >> Does she have a key or no? >> Nope. >> You got You got a tool in your car or no? >> Nope. Nope. Tears off. >> I know. A bad little angle. >> Matt, try to mule kick it. Here we go. >> Sheriff's office. Sheriff's office, coming to the door. SHERIFF'S OFFICE. Try to look in there. See if somebody can look in there cuz he's getting ready to turn a blind corner. Right here. Right here. I got that. I got that. I got that. I got that. Whoa. SH. UK. >> DOWN. >> MATCH DOWN. MATCH DOWN. >> 12. We need more cars. >> Shots fired. 12 shots. 35. Send everybody. We got one of our units down inside. Matt. Matt, you okay? >> Holly, where you at? >> Right behind you, Sergeant. >> Okay. >> One of the four deputies who responded to the scene is Deputy Matthew Yates, a 15-year veteran of the Clark County Sheriff's Office. But now with Deputy Yates stuck and trapped inside the house with Jod, the situation has escalated far beyond what anyone imagined. When the first 911 call came in, >> the shot came from the front room. I seen the smoke. >> He's down. I can't do nothing. Damn it. Damn it. Can you see everything, Holly? >> Yeah, I can see that way >> cuz I can't see. I'm going to take cover with you. >> I got you. I thought he was taking that mad shot. You saw something. Okay, I'm with I'm with Holly. I can see the doors. Where you at? On the other side, right? Try to get to the other neighbors and I'm trying to evacuate them. >> I got the one next door inside. He was sitting on the porch watching. >> Sergeant Matt right there as soon as you go in. >> Yeah. And I remember I said, "Watch watch the kitchen." I said, "He had a blind spot." I think he started to turn and he hit the ground. But I thought that shot >> as multiple units from neighboring police departments, including Springfield PD and its SWAT unit, Ohio State Patrol, Green County, and Zena County units, along with additional Clark County units rushed to the scene. Nobody yet knows that this [music] is only the beginning and Cole is going to leave far more damage in his wake. >> Are you putting a risk going around? >> If not, I go in. >> How long to >> 20 minutes >> at least? >> Cuz I came from Northampton. >> Yeah. I had to get dressed. >> Get my crew. >> You were already here with him on this call. >> Yeah. I called Stalter and I said based on the call, I said, "You want me to clear my extra duty?" Are anyone? He said, "Yes." 11. Okay. Yeah. >> So, you guys are stacked up four? >> Yeah. >> So, was a male shot, a female? >> That was the report. >> Okay. So, we got maybe two down. >> Three down. >> Three down. Maybe that guy. >> I'm thinking he probably did cuz there were two shots >> with a curtain move though. That's one thing I worry about. Unless it's an air blown >> kind of sounded like one of those, you know, shot twice, >> right? >> Our guy down. Then there was another shot which should be consistent with himself. I don't know. How far in that door is Matt? >> Right at the he just went in. >> You think it either that kitchen window or right by the door? >> Nope. I was right behind him. >> We're here on the weapons call. >> Shots fired. Five shots. >> You haven't heard any radio communication from Matt since? >> Nope. I've been calling him and calling him when he first went down. So, I mean, when you go in that door? >> Yeah. >> To the left, you'll see his legs right there. >> But this lady is hysterical. When she got here, she said, "My girlfriend's in there and her son is mental and I when I got here, I heard five rounds go off." So, we thought as more units arrived to assist in the tent standoff. A SWAT team is about to make an attempt to rescue [music] Jod and the deputy, but they still don't know that Cole is alive and prepared, and his actions will soon leave responding units and residents throughout the neighborhood in shock, frustration, and panic. >> You guys able to leave or get back in your house for me? Right neighbors. So, we come out here. He's got my boys inside. My mom's, you know, inside here. You know, somebody's house. Can we go inside, bud? Cuz when these bulls start going, these they're track boxes. You know that. All right. Can we get inside the house, please? >> Tell me she's okay. >> Find out what the hell is going on. >> Come here. >> Talk to me. >> What's with this lady? What's going on? >> I do have >> There's nobody. >> I'll tell you what's going on. >> What? >> Lower your voice. >> Stop, Barry. >> One of our deputies is down inside that trailer is what's going on. >> So is my niece and my nephew. >> Lower your voice. my niece. >> Only time will tell. >> BARRY, STOP. I GOT TO GET INFORMATION. >> YOU GUYS AT LEAST SIT down here. >> I need something. We'll know where you're at. >> She's shot. >> Can we do that for me? No. >> You if you know that she's down. >> So, where's >> You don't understand to go up there and sit on that porch. That way I know where to find you. If I need you. >> Where the hell is there? >> It don't matter, bud. I'm in control of this whole neighborhood right now. If [laughter] I say for you to sit on that porch, I don't know. >> Just tell me if my wife is okay. >> I don't know the answer to that. I don't know. 71 or 77 or 98 that's responding. Is there anyone that can stop and pick her up? >> About as soon as we know. >> Damn, I hate waiting, dude. It's worse feeling ever, >> especially the second time. >> How many shots fired? >> They said original call was 5 to six and then when they forced entry, they said there's one more shot and gates went down. Any shots after that? >> Not that I'm aware of. >> I know. Watch med kit stage right here. So if somebody goes down, we'll drag them right here. All right. All right. >> Ross, be careful. Damn it. >> One day right there to your right. Window to your right. The moment Multiple shots fired. 12 confirms trailer. Marble shot. Audible shots. >> He fired right at us, didn't he? >> Yeah. Right at right. He left literally right at us. >> Yeah. He came right here, Clark. It came out of that back room cuz it hit the cruiser just above our heads here. >> Move ahead and cover that back room. >> He's got someone right here. I got it. >> He just missed John's head and my head and your head. Son of a >> Look at that. I was right there. >> Someone still in there. I think they all went in. >> Yeah, they all came right out on your head. >> We're good. >> I got one round in there. >> I got about seven. >> Did you guys get to the door? Where in >> you and Did you see Yates? >> I didn't. I was a board going back. Where is everybody? >> Anybody see Yates? You got split. We had two ways. >> Anybody get hit? >> No, we just missed this here. I took took one just came past me. Did anybody get eyes on Yates? >> You'll have to ask Weaver and Denise. They were top front. >> You see Yates? >> To the left 5T. >> Any status? >> Any movement? Stay down. >> Stay down. face down. >> I don't know. I I was police shot five times. >> I got one. >> SPD coming or anybody with that? >> SPD's coming. SO, >> GUYS, BE CAREFUL AND HOLD. Watch your movement. >> They started shooting from the back on your side. >> I don't 29y old male. That's all I know. Um, Malachi's cruiser took a round of the windshield. We just fired probably 20 rounds into the house. sides. There's two small windows in that trailer as thin as >> Yep. >> So, he's start shooting this way. >> Stay back all the way. >> I got a I got a collapsible shield in my car. A fold. That ain't >> dropped near the gunfire. Just everybody knows the door. >> What's that? >> We dropped Whoever had the shield dropped and he fell and rolled. >> He didn't shoot at the door. He shot out this way. Or is there two of them? >> Uh there was gunfire coming that way, too. >> Oh, yeah. >> So, there's got to be two. How the hell are they shooting? That's this way. >> He's got two generations. >> Oh, okay. >> Go. You got to get out. Let's go. Hurry up. Move your ass. Let's go. >> We need you out. >> We got to get out. >> Let's go. >> As responding units struggle to make sense of Cole's relentless attack while desperately trying to rescue the trapped victims, residents in the area begin recording the horror unfolding right at their doorsteps and posting it on social media. But they don't know yet that there is still far more to come. >> Got the SWAT team getting ready to come up and they got careful getting ready to go in to help the officer. >> All right. >> He's barely down in the doorway. Possibly shot. He's He's They've had no contact with him. Okay. >> I think they're going to introduce gas. >> Gas is here. We're bringing it off. >> Also, be aware of the female victims are unknown. She could also be inside. Clark the Bearcat and crew. Here's what's about to happen. We've got teams that are going to make entry. Everybody up there is going to hold. When you see the Bearcat coming down the street, it gets close. I want you to open fire on the front window with the pepper ball. Just a pepper ball. Bearcat's going to be used for extract. Medic will be waiting at the bottom of the hill. We're going to use the other truck to hit the rear of the house to try to distract him. Draw his draw him back there. >> Split two trailers and run it right into the ass of his trailer as hard as we can. That's going to start causing him to shoot at us. Hopefully, >> everybody out there understand what's going to happen. >> A flashbang in the front to drag him out. >> We'll leave the guy in there at that point and deal with him after that. >> We need everyone move back. >> They got to go back fast. >> Let's go, KIDS. COME ON. Get >> Come on. Follow me. >> Follow me. GO BACK. GO BACK. >> Stand around here. I got all my family in here. >> I'm sorry, sir. >> That's fine. No, you're fine. >> We don't want anyone getting hurt. Do not come up any further. Do we understand? >> They're getting ready to do right now. Watch out. >> Units know this is the right plan to rescue [music] the victims trapped inside and anyone else they may not yet know about. But Cole doesn't have just one firearm at his disposal. A later discovery would reveal that he has two high-powered rifles and a loaded handgun along with a large stockpile [music] of loose ammunition and preloaded magazines. And now, as the SWAT team makes a second attempt to ambush [music] Cole and rescue the victims, they're about to realize just how complicated this [music] situation is going to get. >> Here we go. >> Team's going in. Team's going in. Drop it. Grab it. They hit the other side. >> They're backing out. They're backing out. They're backing out. He's shot. He got beat. He's shot. >> No, somebody's been shot. Somebody else has been shot. >> He's not out. They're trying to tear the house down. Get out of here. >> THAT'S >> WATCH THAT TOP. WATCH THAT TOP. >> He is. Nomman got hit long. >> Shooting out the top window. Top window in the back. ANGLE behind you. MF behind you. >> We got one. Another officer hit. >> COME ON. GET IN THIS ONE. HAVE THE MEDIC'S ready down there. >> HE'S OVER THERE. >> HE'S RIGHT THERE. >> PUT HIM IN HERE AND WE'LL TAKE HIM. >> The officer not. >> No, he hurt HIS KNEE. PUT HIM IN THIS CAR. >> Yet again, SWAT units failed to rescue [music] the trapped victims. And another one of their own is grievously injured. As neighbors and Jod's [music] family watch the horror unfold of SWAT's failed second attempt, despair begins to set in over the victim's fate. Not only among the onlookers but [music] also among the officers who feel almost helpless as they struggle to extract their colleague in the face of such a threat. >> Save her. >> God save her. Guys, please the SWAT thing. Please >> ask him if the lady's okay. >> Ask him if the lady is okay. >> Ask him if my wife's okay. >> It can't be a gas can, though, could it? >> It's a 22 long rifle. >> Little smaller shooting. >> You shooting at him? >> Yeah. there. Oh, they was Man, you didn't hear it earlier. >> They had over 12 ARs going on in there and he's still alive. >> They can't hear him. >> He's got on. >> He's got a lot of guns. >> Yep. >> We shut the shut the gas off. >> Right. Smart. Who's going to come up on get a main line? You hitting it again. >> We have water close by. You are looking supposed >> if you can. What do you want? Go back and get as much more information from her date of birth. >> The girly and the guy in here. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay, I got you. >> Put your daughter's first name. >> It's not my daughter. It's my wife. >> Your wife? >> That's her son. So, is your wife in there? >> Yes. >> What's her name? >> Jody Arbuckle. >> What's the date of birth? >> Do you guys have all this information? You guys were out two days ago. We told you he had a gun. You guys didn't do anything. >> Were we out? Sheriff's were out. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Even has a warrant for arrest. We even told your sheriff that. >> How many guns does he have? >> Oh, I don't know. He's estranged from her. That's why we called you guys out to help and you didn't help. So, she had to make sure her son was okay. And now we have this. We called you guys. You have all of this in your police records. You guys were just out two days ago. Three sheriffs showed up and they said we can't do anything. They said we suggest you guys come back in daylight. >> Okay. >> So, we came back in daylight and now my wife >> Well, there's a deputy is dead. Okay. >> Is the wife my wife? >> I don't know. >> You got You just said you didn't know anything about this. >> There's people in there. He's still shooting. Okay. >> Is she dead? >> I don't know. I I honestly don't know. Okay. I will be back periodically. Look at me. You can't think be thinking negative. Okay. >> We have a 5-year-old son. >> Okay. >> We were just doing a welfare check on him. >> I know. Okay. >> We don't live out here. We're living the principal. Like, this is not our life. >> I know. Look at me. Look at me. We are doing everything. Do you understand? I will not let you down. Okay. I will come check on you periodically. >> You're welcome. But now, even as the deputy updates all units on what really happened, the situation becomes even more desperate when SWAT launches a drone to map the inside of the mobile home, capturing visuals that raise an even more disturbing possibility. >> Too far to get a drone in. >> There's a broken window on this side of the house. Got a good chunk of it missing. >> Is that that window may not put a drone through? >> The one on this side? It is. I can't remember if there's anything blocking it or not. >> Deputy is on the ground. Done's down. Drone's down. Flame face down. Kitchen. The drone has been taken out. >> They're saying the eggs got shot in the face. >> Yes, he has. >> They're tossing it around. >> Just relax. What we have to do here? Just keep your head in the game. Yes. Continue putting gas. >> 40 mm and a hand deploy. >> See if it works. Try to get a drone in. Get some eyes on I got some paper. >> I just looked at him in the face and I said, "You need a break." And he's like, "Uh, I need to get out of here. I need a break. I need a break. I need to start crying." It's his best friends in there. >> Me and him were just sitting honestly talking about we was talking about home improvement stuff last night at the fair. So, I'm like, "What's your wife?" Yeah. I was like, "What's your wife got you up to now?" He's like, "Oh, always something." You know, >> taking a nap, daddy. >> We all live over there by each other. So, >> how are you doing? >> Such the last thing I want to to deal with. >> I'm so sorry. Did you miss him? Do you need anything? Are you sure? >> Well, if you change your mind, please reach out to me. Okay. >> All right, >> Jenny Yates. >> Stay right here. Just chill. >> What do you have going on? >> I don't know. We're trying to Jenie, I'm not going to lie to you. I don't know what's going on. We're trying to I just got here. I'm trying to figure it out. Okay. >> Okay. Depend on you. >> Just stay right here. Stay right here. >> His dad's down there. Hey, not a word about Matt Yates. He's the one down. His dad's sitting down there. >> Genie Yates is right here. Matt's down. >> Genie doesn't know. Genie doesn't know. >> Where is I? I told him when I found out something, I let him know. >> Yeah. >> Took DMT about a year and a half ago. Sorry for my language. >> I'm afraid my sister's dead. My sister's dead and he's already shot a cop. >> I love him to death, but do what you got to do. Listen to me. There's a young man standing down here. Black male. >> Okay. The one we got dropped. >> Don't mention anybody any cops been shot. Okay. >> Okay. Cuz I believe that's it might be his son. So don't mention it. >> Son, >> don't. Now listen. >> Listen to me. The officer that's shot, >> his dad is here. >> Okay. >> Don't talk about any officer being shot. >> Okay. I got you. I got you. >> I told him when I found out something, I'd let him know. >> So >> I I'll do what you got to do. >> We are just not going there cuz there's a lane of fire down there. There's no way Jimmy Yates listens to the radio that much to know to be here. >> Yeah, but would he be here if there was something like this with everybody? I mean, you know what I mean? >> No, I don't listen to the radio like that. >> So, that means you guys just start lighting it up toward the top just a minute to get everything set. and get him the out of there. They know they train for this >> when it's your own. It's >> Yeah, we He's been in there for an hour. >> That's why I'm like, can we get >> I sort of think >> it's been over an hour. >> There was >> It has been nearly 4 hours since Cole shot Deputy Yates. And desperate to rescue him, SWAT is now preparing for a third attempt. But if the units on scene and residents in the area believe things cannot get any worse, they are about to be proven very wrong. >> Come up here. >> Together, >> right? >> Gotcha. >> Yeah. >> Got you. Leave me away. >> Let's get a shield over here. You got another shield. >> Hey, if we get a shield in there, shield right here. >> We are going to begin our gas and bang. I'll let you know when we are going to stop and that'll be on you guys to move. Swear to command. We are beginning our We are beginning gas and bank. Beginning gas and bank. >> Fleming, make sure you call out entry when you're going in there so we know we got good guys inside. gas. Please continue moving in. >> There is a fire inside. There is a fire inside. [laughter] >> When you guys get those teams out of there, back up a little bit. >> Don't get too close to that thing. It's going to burn. >> Good guys out. Good guys out. >> Good guys out. >> Finally, Swap manages to extract Deputy Yates from the house. He is immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. But before they can reach Jod, a fire suddenly erupts inside the trailer, leaving Jod's family and residents with little hope and growing anger over what is unfolding. >> WHY IS THERE NOT WHY IS THERE NO FIRE TRUCK? WHY AIN'T THERE NO HOUSES ON IT? This guy, LOOK AT THIS. THIS GUY'S HOUSE IS RIGHT THERE, MAN. FIRES ARE GOING THIS WAY. YES, there's some kind of guy who beam at home for the GODDAMN HOUSE, DUDE. >> Listen to me. >> No, THIS IS MY NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE WAS ON FIRE RIGHT NOW AND I'VE GOT SEVERAL OF THEM RIGHT HERE. >> And my dogs and all MY [screaming] >> SIR, I've got 60 cops out here and that's my number one thing right now. Put it right there. >> I can't read. What is that? >> Sergeant Staler, you don't have to read. You got video. >> Yes, it's my dog. You got in there. >> There's two pits in there. They're going to let him out, but are they going to >> friendly? >> Two pits and they're friendly. >> BLUE TRAILER. >> NO, HE'S WORRIED ABOUT his dogs. They're about ready to go crazy. >> Are we able to get these pit bulls out? >> Listen, whether or not my wife is alive, >> we're going to go soon as we get this truck out of the way. We're going to go get the dogs out. You're going to go with us. All right. >> Yep. >> But you stay back here with them. All right. >> No, you're fine. >> I'm not trying to be Iran, but that's everything I have. >> I know. Go with them. Stay right with him. >> You're not going to tell me whether or not my wife is allowed while you guys set the place on fire. My wife's inside >> and if she bled out and she died. >> Ma'am, listen. Every time they would send somebody in. >> I understand. But you watched them go in and get the deputy and take the deputy out before they went and set it on fire WHILE MY WIFE WAS INSIDE. >> Whether she was alive OR NOT, YOU CARE ABOUT IT. YOU SERVED AND PROTECTED. NOBODY PROTECTED HER. WE CALLED YOU GUYS OUT TWO DAYS AGO. THEY CAME AND THEY SAID, SO EVERYBODY KNOWS, THEY SAID, "WE can't do anything. WE SAID HE HAD A GUN. WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING. COME OUT IN THE DAYTIME AND CHECK ON HIM YOURSELF." AND THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED. NOW SHE'S DEAD. SHE HAS A 5-YEAR-OLD SON. AND YET NOBODY CARED ABOUT HER LIFE. NOBODY. NOBODY. We don't know cuz we don't care. >> Is she alive? >> Well, we're from Dayton, so I have no idea. Honey, >> you guys weren't just over there. >> No, they just arrived. They just arrived when we got here. Sorry about that. >> You guys have No, this is my wife. >> She's been going on for 4 hours. Now it's on fire >> and nobody has told me. I know you guys have Hello, anybody? Will you please help me move? My wife is alive. She was inside the trailer that caught on fire. He's not alive in there. >> There's no way. >> NO WAY. >> MY WIFE IS ALIVE. COME >> BACK HERE. >> I JUST NEED TO KNOW. >> SET IT ON FIRE. IS SHE ALIVE? >> MAN, WE DON'T KNOW. >> WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T KNOW? YOU EITHER BROUGHT HER OUT OR SHE'S IN THERE being charged to death. Did she go up in school? >> I don't know. I'm being honest. >> I don't want to tell you she did. And she >> So find out. Somebody knows. You don't You can't tell me you don't know. The high school princip. I'm going to tell you >> the only reason they were able to get to the deputy cuz he was right there right by the door. >> Yeah, I saw that. >> So that's but everything they sent in either got caught on something or so there was no visual Uhhuh. >> I feel sorry. >> So was they able to actually between me and you on the drone whenever they were talking? >> Did they see her in there? I don't think so. I think she was all the way at the end of the house because when she got injured >> and we don't know. We're just standing back where you guys drew in the tear gas. That's what made all this explode. >> When when I was in it, >> it would probably be the gas line or anything. >> You could have or if something was hit. >> They do have the deputy, right? >> Well, it didn't look good. >> It didn't. >> I can see a lot of blood right here. >> Get him out. >> Yeah, they got him out. Hey, how do you feel about me dropping on the corner of the truck here for the low down? You >> I don't think you're going to be able to see it. Even if you were up there, >> you can't. >> Okay, >> now it's just a waiting game. >> It's one way to go go to hell right there. >> The preview. >> I'll say at this point it probably should be gas fed if they haven't shut it off. >> Do you have leashes that maybe we could get the dogs? >> I can go and get them now. Somebody doesn't mind. >> Can we go get these keys right here? This blue one. >> Let's go get them. We're going to get two more dogs out of the blue one. >> Feels good in here. >> Yeah. >> Hey. >> Hi, sweetie. Hi. Ready? Hi. >> IT'S OKAY. IT'S OKAY. >> Come on. >> Hi. >> Hi. This one's stuck over here. Come on. >> He's never been on one. >> He's never been on leash. >> It's It's Dookie. >> Oh, Dukie's peeing. >> Yeah, Dookkey peed on the floor, too. >> I don't think he's coming out. >> I was working at church and my brother-in-law called me. He said, "What's going on in Clark County? They called for multiple helicopters." I'm like, "I don't know." He's like, "I guess shot shots fired, deputy down." About that time, Sikovich called and said, "Hey, are you still on the SWAT team?" I'm like, "Ka?" He's like, "Well, I think you you guys are about to get activated, so we'd run." So, I just left church and came here. >> I don't think he's coming from underneath that trailer anymore. >> Is there a possibility that he left? Like, he's not in there. >> They They were taking shots though when they went in the first time, right? when that we got here on this side >> and one one hurt his knee cuz initially I thought he was shot. So >> she actually she fought that place and that's her mom for cold because he's more of a hippie. We must stop and I kept saying I destroy her to go. She's not going to hurt me. He's never been by this freeze and then I heard the gunshot. They know she's gone because she was alive and God say she burning up. She just lost her cat on her perfume. Morgan, can we call the um the people that come out and talk to people? >> Yes, I believe. Yes. Do would you like a what we call a crisis counselor? It's nothing to do with the police. >> We have those at school. Okay. >> Do you have somebody from school we could call for you or a friend? >> My my sister's sitting at my house >> at your and though honey, how are you going to get back to Are you going to be able to show these cars right here? Keys were on. >> We got a body or anything? >> Yeah, one so far. >> Male. >> Don't know yet. >> Okay. >> So, but he's out in the front. The last place where you guys seen him, I guess, out in the front there. >> Mike, they have one one body. Anything else from us, brother? We're going to head to the school. >> They got a body, right? >> They have a body right here so far. >> You think it's him? >> They don't know. He's char. It's charred. It's all black. >> That's all I'm kind of waiting on is to make sure that, >> right? There's no way he got out of here. I don't unless he got, you know, had a tunnel into that shed or something. >> You need anything else? >> I have no idea, man. you know, it's just going to be one of those chaotic things and we're going to be answering questions for two or three years on. So, get their guys are all out. I think there's just a couple of Clark County guys floating around. So, everything else from that point on you just have to deal with. >> That's what it is. Anything could have set the place on fire, right? >> He could have done that. >> No, I mean there's no guilt here. >> No, not on high odds. He killed two people. So >> yeah, >> probably himself. >> I mean, I know that catalyst that's not the right way to look at it. >> It's 100% the right way to look at it. >> He killed two people. Lethal force is now just what I got was and he tried to use lethal force on us two different times. >> While the fire completely demolished the mobile home, it destroyed only Cole's belongings and caused no damage to any of the neighboring trailer homes. While the exact cause of the fire was never determined, BCI concluded that the actions taken by the responding units were justified given the threat posed by Cole. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for the lives lost in Cole's violent attack. His mother, Jodie Arbuckle, was later found deceased inside the trailer after suffering multiple gunshot wounds inflicted by Cole. Despite concerns and speculation from officers, forensics later located Cole's body inside a central utility room near the rear of the trailer. He had retreated into the small room to hide [music] as the fire engulfed the living room and kitchen. Pathologists found lethal levels of carbon monoxide and soot in his respiratory system, confirming that he lost consciousness and succumbed to the toxic smoke long before the flames reached his position. Deputy Matthew Yates was urgently transported for medical care, but it was already [music] too late. The fatal round struck Yates in the jaw and chin area immediately after he entered through the front door of the mobile home, causing catastrophic internal injuries and an immediate collapse. The entire community along with law enforcement agencies from across Ohio came together for his funeral procession. What began with a highly disturbed man's actions ultimately claimed the lives of two members of the community, leaving behind families, fellow officers, and a community that continues [music] to miss Jodi Arbuckle and Deputy Matthew Yates deeply.
