On January 21st, 2026, officers responded to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport after an American Airlines customer reported that more than 36,000 miles had been stolen from his account. Investigators learned the miles had been used to book an international flight to Brazil without the victim's knowledge, prompting a fraud investigation. >> We're going to talk over here for a second. Okay. Hey, my name's Officer Griffin. So, we're coming out here cuz we got a call from an individual saying someone used his frequent flyer miles to book the ticket. >> Well, I didn't. I went through a travel agency. >> Okay. You went through a travel agency? >> Yes. >> What travel agency did you go through? >> I went through it like a a guy on Instagram. He just like he I'll show you like >> Yeah, if you can pull it up for us. How'd you pay for the flight? >> I paid him in cash. Well, I I like Paid him in cash at >> Actual cash? Not a cash app? >> Stop him and he paid for my flight. >> Can you show us that transaction by chance? The how much you paid him? >> I didn't send it on cash app because I didn't have any cash. I gave it to my relative and they paid it. I can show you the Instagram where I like This is I didn't book the flight. >> How'd you find this guy on Instagram? >> Just on Instagram, just browsing. >> You were just browsing? >> Yeah, this is my first time taking a trip somewhere. >> Yeah, this is my first time having a person book my ticket for me. >> Well, I seen people using it. I I can show you like >> How come you told American Airlines that you think your girlfriend canceled the ticket? >> Because she like She paid for him like she paid him. >> You said You just said it was your relative. Yeah, girlfriend, relative, I know. >> I paid her. The money's like like my girlfriend, my relative, like whatever you want to call it, but I paid them the money. >> girlfriend or a relative. I'm saying that. >> I'mma just show you. Like I'm not bullshitting. This is This is the Instagram that I met the guy >> This is where he booked >> I a I need to see >> I want to see where you said, "Hey, can you book a ticket for me?" And he says, "Okay, cool. Here's your ticket booked." And you said, "Oh, this is how much I paid you." >> Okay, let me show you that too. Do you mind if I see it? >> You can look at it. >> Do you mind if I take your phone real quick? >> You can look at it. You got a driver's license with you? >> Yeah. >> Booked with him before and nothing ever happened. First time this ever happened? >> I never I didn't do it. I can book it. >> What did I'm I'm confused. What's like what's What did he do wrong? >> Well, you say he stole somebody's How do you How do you steal I don't even know how to do no >> We have an individual reaching out saying he's locked out of his account, but he's getting emails that a flight has been booked with a confirmation number. Your name is the one linked to it. All your information is the one linked to it, which is why we have We're here with you now. >> All right. >> So, matches up with them in their system. Now, you're sitting here telling us it's been booked through all these different people. You're giving money to a relative, a girlfriend. It's being paid through third parties. So, there's there's a lot that's not adding up. The only two things that are adding up is a confirmation number, your name's linked to it, and that it is supposed to be this other guy's account. So, we have frequent flyer miles that have been stolen? >> Yeah, I don't I don't know nothing about that type of stuff. Like I As you can see, like I don't even I don't even know his name. It's Flight Guru. I showed you the Instagram. >> Can I see your uh passport? >> Yes. >> Let me see that too. >> They said he bought a ticket. I don't see any sort of transaction on there that agreed on a price for it, and some individual said >> So, okay. Well, what You got to find I need to Okay. Um I'm going to need you to find a way I don't I don't you Who you got to contact or where it's got to go through. You got to find some type of proof that that transaction happened. They There you had money sent to him. >> It shows It shows that it Right here. >> I I don't need >> app right there. >> I know. I see. I need to see that that you paid him. >> Hey, well, I can show you that, too. Show you like once I paid him. I don't >> No, I need to see the the transaction >> this >> I don't care about I don't care about any of this stuff. >> that Well, the person that paid for that flight They paid off their cash app on their way to Brazil, too. >> They're on their way to Brazil. >> Yeah, but they They already there. >> Who paid for it? >> I paid my I paid cash. I gave it to my my relative or whatever you want to say. My relative Okay. A relative. A relative. I gave them the money. They sent it off to him. I gave him the cash app. I didn't They just cash >> Why didn't you cash out the >> I didn't have no money on my account. I didn't have no money on my cash >> You had $800 cash on you. >> Yeah, I didn't have any money in my account. I had it in cash. >> So, you just walked up to your relative and said, "Hey, I >> I got $800. Here you go. I'm giving you Exactly. I gave somebody $800 to cash app. They They don't have No, it's not my sister. It's They don't have nothing to >> Then who is this relative? >> Oh, my girl. Like I I had my girl cash app. Like Like my girl. >> Okay, I don't know of a single person that calls Yeah. >> You see >> What it sounds like is that you're trying to come up with a story right now. >> I'm sure I showed you >> Give us names. Give us >> know this guy's name. >> You showed me a conversation you had where someone said they booked the flight. But I'm asking for proof that you paid for this flight cuz that's the issue. >> Right now, I never had it. >> You're on a flight right now using someone's miles. That's what they're being reported on. >> Okay. >> Okay? And so, I need to show that you If you can prove to us that you purchased this flight, >> The person >> then it's understandable. Then I understand. We got to move on and sort it out. >> Okay. Well, let me text Let me text my people that Let me let me text someone and so they can Damn it, they're in the air. Okay, hold on. >> What? I do. I'm on one. It's non-refundable. Yeah, I do that having another one for five. Did you hear that? Did you hear that? Yeah, yeah, non-refundable for five. Five six. This is this thing. We'll end up I'm going to get the information. They're getting me the price of the ticket. We'll >> It doesn't make any sense, yeah, your story. You can't give us name. >> All right, give me that. >> It's yeah. >> Price is >> Basic I do I go basic on this? Is it economy or >> Main cabin fare is >> Uh 2,246. >> 2,246. >> And 33 dollars. >> And 33 okay. >> 2246 and 33 cents. >> Total eight Well We basically can't you can't buy this. >> Oh yeah, because it's Yeah, yeah, you're right. You're right, yeah. >> Okay. >> But but this is for the wrong trip. Cuz his ticket is booked to go on the 21 and to come back on the 25. >> Okay. >> It's a round trip. >> Okay. All right then. Huh? >> Where's the Adam? >> Counterfeit. You know what I'm saying? A counterfeit charge just for selling t-shirts. I had that. I used to sell t-shirts like you probably seen my shirts. You ever been to a Dallas Cowboys game? >> Where would you be out of? >> Here. >> Where were you doing that? No, this was out of South Carolina. >> Oh yeah, well I do it all over the United States. So it was South Carolina. I do sell t-shirts. So my shirts say if you ever been to a Dallas Cowboys game you probably seen my shirts says uh a cowboy on the front. I might say uh I'm on the front now on the front. I'm a cowboy on the back. Like I said a shirt. >> You need to get in contact with South Carolina about that. They're going to >> I went to I went to I went to court and everything about it. Like I >> Well, there's there's something either unpaid or there's something lingering about that. They still have something out for you. >> Okay, well yeah, I got to get that stuff. >> But back to this, you're going to have to find something like I said cuz right now the way it looks is that you have stolen this guy's points. So >> steal I don't even know >> Look, as we're saying all of it and you're not giving us anything. You can't you're not You keep saying You showed us a few messages. >> Yeah. >> That's it. >> I'm telling you I need proof that you paid for this. >> Cuz you got hey >> Look from where I'm coming from, okay? I have someone calling me saying that they had someone stole their miles. I have you coming in and you're saying your girlfriend relative whatever >> I'm going to text the person that >> gave you $800 cash and they bought it >> And here's the thing, you're telling the airline you're telling us you can't get in contact with this relative girlfriend whoever because they're on their flight. >> Exactly. >> But then you tell the airline, "Oh, they just canceled my flight and I need to be rebooked." So you're you're telling us two contradicting things. They're either able to get in contact with an airline and they canceled your flight and you need to be rebooked all of the sudden when you're about to start boarding. Or they're on their flight and you can't get in contact with them. >> Yeah. So >> Those two things don't they don't go together. >> You don't have a story. It's not making any sense. >> Okay. >> If it's a random person on Instagram bought tickets, right? >> That's I showed I showed you that. >> Yeah, I've got I've got the value of the flight. >> How much? >> 2,246.33 >> Yeah. >> That's what they're saying the value of the plane ticket is. So >> What's this? >> I I just gave her >> All right, boss. Here's the thing. Go on, put your bike down for me, all right? >> All right, I can show you >> That's right. Go on, put your hands behind your back. You're going to be placed under arrest for theft. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> Yeah. I can show you I can get you the text message stuff like >> I don't know how you got those airline miles man but >> I didn't I don't even know how to do no [ __ ] like that. >> How much did you say you paid? >> I gave that guy $800. >> The tickets were $2500. >> The tickets were $2500. >> Where do you want to go to? Where do you live? Here before we have one custody for theft. >> I can show you I can show you >> transport >> I can show you the transaction. >> You know this what >> Can I give you let's go? >> Oh, never mind. That's going to drop us down. Let's go out this side. Yeah, I say let's not go down to the >> All right, let me see my answers and then so I can't show you all that but I can't get the confirmation for the money. >> No, this is too late. This will all if you have anything it'll come up in court. >> So, we'll go. I'm leaving now. >> When was the last time you've been to North Carolina? >> 7 or 8 years ago. Maybe longer than that, 10. Selling t-shirts. >> He was charged with theft of property after unlawfully redeeming more than $2200 worth of American Airlines Advantage miles without the account holder's permission.
