Do you understand that? Do you understand that? Have a seat. Have a seat. Have a seat. Have a seat. Have a seat. All right, everybody, welcome back. We got another video for you. This one comes from Body Cam Network USA and it's rehab visit turns violent when a man assaults staff and police. Haven't seen it? Let's go. Oh. Oh. Oh, taser's coming out for. Officers with the Orlando Police Department responded to a call from a non-profit organization that helps people re-enter society after incarceration by providing rehabilitation for substance abuse. God bless these people for doing it. You know, for a long time they were talking about having folks I like counselors show up to calls instead of police. That's their solution sometimes when they say they want to defund police. So, the solution is send these counselors out. I I got a a suspicion that this video might tell you why that may not be the best idea. The caller stated that an assault had taken place where one of the clients had tackled a staff member causing him to fall through a door and land in the grass causing him to injure his back, elbow, and head. I was assaulted I was attacked by a client. And I don't want to press charges. Who was the client? He's in our control room right now. What what happened? I was doing a group therapy. I believe he had some type of psychotic break. Does he take medicine or anything like that? Yes. What kind of medicine does he take? I don't No? It's not my client, but he takes psychotic medicine. Okay. Everybody listen up. Hey, everybody listen up. Everybody needs to stay in this MPR room until you are told I was probably sitting here with my back turned talking to him. Kind of sort of, right? You were right here? Like right here? Yeah. He was sitting where that young man right there I want to say. Right? With his back turned. Mhm. Turned around and all I seen was him charging like a raging bull. And I'm the I was just going to say like a raging bull. And he beat me to it. Backing off, right? Right? The only thing I could think to do is put my foot up Mhm. to block him. Right? And that's your natural instinct, right? Mhm. And he just home. He's clearly Look, you see the door that was Yeah, that's exactly how it went down. Okay. Yep. So, not only do you have the victim telling you I would have had the victim probably walk me through where the witnesses weren't listening to it. But I I see what the situation is here. So, victim is Now, you got this other guy sitting there who's like, "Yep, that's exactly how it happened." The door was closed, right? And then this dude right here sitting there with this look on his face down at the bottom of the screen. You know, I don't want anything to do with the cops. Look at him. Right now, is that how it was now? Yes. Okay. All right. It was locked [laughter] then. So, he knocked me clear through it. The impact took me all the way through the door. What's back there? That's concrete. You fell on concrete? Concrete and grass as you can see. There should be grass on the top of my shirt. But yeah, so my body is probably laying somewhere in this area. Yeah. And my the shoulders and that greatest probably hurt my elbow. Any cameras this way? Unfortunately not. All right. I'm assuming all these people out here saw this. I think he asked him if were there any cameras out this way and he said unfortunately not because then you would have been able to see um boom, all of a sudden they slammed through the door. Appreciate it. That was not That was not. Oh. All right, let's see what's up. Yes. First name Nelson? Yes. Okay. All right, Mr. Molina. My name's Officer Garvin. Orlando Police Department, okay? Going to read you uh I'm going to read my card here. I just need a verbal yes or no, okay? You're not under arrest right now. Just for me to be able to talk to you, I have to read you this. Do you understand? I don't know what that is. Okay. I have to provide you your Miranda warnings, your constitutional right, okay? For me to ask you specific questions So, I'm not under arrest. Correct. You're being detained right now, but you're not under arrest, okay? All right, what's the difference? You're not being placed in handcuffs. I'm not taking you to jail, okay? But you're not free to leave. What's the other way? You'll be under arrest, which means that regardless of how this goes you're coming with me. Right now, depending on the situation, depending on what questions I ask you and how you answer them you may or may not go with me. That's the difference. Okay? Okay. So, now what I would have done in this situation is I wouldn't have Mirandized him. You already had a victim give you a statement. You already had a witness give you a statement. You walk right in that room. You stand him up cuz what you don't want is you don't want him to think through what he is going to do in this situation. He already knows he's in trouble. So, now his mind's racing like, "What am I going to do here? How much do I want to fight this?" Don't give him time for that. Walk in, take him, put him in cuffs. And then you can start asking questions. You already know you're going to arrest him. You got a witness and a victim that have told you what happened. Do you understand that? Mhm. Do you understand that? Have a seat. Have a seat. Push him down. Have a seat. There you go. Have a seat. Have a seat. See? GOSH DANG IT. FIGHT HIM. GET OUT. GET OUT. OH BOY, THIS IS the other guy's bit. Get down. GET DOWN. DON'T DO IT. DON'T DO IT. STRIKE HIM. LOOK AT HIS FIST. Look at his Okay. The problem with the I love the taser. I do work with the the company that makes the taser. It is a really great tool. But once it's in your hand, it significantly inhibits your ability to go hands-on in a tight space like this. You were in a tight space. Your best bet, especially with two of you there, is to start whooping some you know what. And you can best do that with your hands. Now, when he got up out of that chair, I would have aggressively closed the distance and knocked him to the ground because he was already This is what he was You could The body language said it all day long. I'm not nitpicking these guys because when you're there, it's totally But I've been in many of these situations. I would have knocked him to the ground immediately with a nice impact push. But now you're on a fight. You can deliver strikes. We are taught to deliver strikes in this situation to gain compliance. GET ON THE GROUND. GET ON THE GROUND. THESE FAT GUYS, MAN, they don't The taser doesn't affect them as much either. Well, it worked. He's breathing like a bull, too. Double handcuffs. All right, so he's not really resisting. You can see he's Can he breathe? And I look, I don't want to I'm not critiquing. I'm just saying it's easy for me to watch this video and be like, "I'd do this." All right. These guys did a They got him in cuffs. And frankly, they did a lot of faster than what we usually see. So, they got the job done. I was just making a point that sometimes when you use a certain tool, once it's in your hand, you got to deal with that tool. And we've seen other videos where if you put it on the ground or you it can be used against you. So, just always be mindful of that. And this was a very close quarters combat zone. Love it. They're not excessive. They got him. Checking his radio. >> [snorts] >> Thankfully that old boy was there. He helped. Did you deploy? No. So, I think he asked the other officer if he deployed and he said no. Um they both had their tasers out. >> How fast it can go, folks. You got to read the body language. The body language tells you a lot. Thankfully, a lot of you watch these videos. Thank you. I appreciate it. It does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. So, thank you for watching the videos. What we have watched is you can see the body language in these folks that they're going to do something. Uh direct in front of our cars. Uh one of the buildings out flag you down when you get here. Guys, you can get up. We're right behind you. But out here? No, it's not that. Can you get him? Can you guys get that officer? So, what he's looking at is the cuff wasn't locked, which they were just kudos to them. They were just putting the cuffs on. So, the cuffs didn't lock, so it over it engaged all the way. So, what he's going to have to do is I'm guessing he's grabbing his key out to make that adjustment right now. Bro, can you stand up? All right, man. On three. One, two, three. Oh, yeah. See, he adjusted it. Whether they showed it on the video or not, he adjusted it. We'll grab that stuff. Come back for it. I'll grab it. I'll grab it. You guys get him. I need a burner. Yeah, it's coming. It's coming. All right, come on, big guy. Like, man, the taser take a lot out of you, and he was he took a lot of shots with the taser. Yeah, it's in here. I ain't searching yet. All right, that big old boy. Right here. I started my career on an Indian reservation, and um it was not uncommon for them to to to engage in a physical altercation. Um they didn't often times they weren't super compliant when we would show up and we're dealing with a case like this. So, and I've dealt with guys a lot of guys his size. Ed Ed's uh they're handful sometimes. Stay tight in here. Somebody going to come check you out. All right. You good to go? You good to go? So, he's got some problems. I mean, he's he's got some mental problems, and also he understands that once you're had a lot of these guys who are old school, been through the criminal system a lot, once they're in cuffs, sometimes they're just like this. They already know they've they're going back to jail. Might be where he wanted to go. I'll put some air in there, all right? >> [music] >> After being medically cleared, he was transported to the Orange County Jail, where he was booked and charged with two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting officers with violence, and battery for tackling the counselor. So, that's Florida, too. I'm curious what they got probably gave him. Clearly, he already was in the system, probably on a supervised release where he was going through these programs, substance abuse uh issues, and then all of a sudden he adds this on there. My guess is he's probably got some decent charges coming out of this. Well, the charges are decent, but the the the time he will serve for these um probably going to be a little hefty. So, I don't know what uh what he'll end up getting, but let me know what you think. Comment, like, subscribe. Could you have handled this by yourself or with somebody else? Um and what tool would you have used? Hands, taser, OC? What would you have used to stop this threat? Um you knew he was already pre- had a propensity to violence. You could see his body language, his face. You knew that this was probably going to go sideways. I thought ultimately they did a good job. Like, I'm nitpicking and saying what I would have done, but they got him into custody in a very close quarters situation where they were having to deal with him. So, let me know what you think. Comment, like, subscribe. We'll catch you on the next video.
