You're not like driving Uber or anything like that? >> No. Yeah, that's a thing. I didn't mean to. And then I got stuck. >> Yeah, I I can see that. We're just trying to get some snacks. >> What hotel you staying at? >> Um, the hotel. >> You can have just one. >> The double tree. >> Yeah. >> So, like right across the street. >> Yeah. We literally just came here to go get some snacks and then this happened. >> So, what? You turned out from the light and turned in here? >> Okay. So, I was at that light. Yeah. >> And then I was trying to turn this way. >> Okay. >> But I didn't know. Um I don't know. I thought it was aing um to turn this way. Officers then conducted standard field sobriety tests which showed clear signs of intoxication, giving them lawful grounds to proceed under DUI regulations. >> You know the alphabet? >> Duh. >> Okay. Would you be able to say the alphabet starting at E and then stop at W for me? >> A B C E D A B C D E F U W. >> You ask me for the alphabet. Yeah. I asked you if you could say the alphabet starting at E and then stop at W. >> W. >> A B CDE E F U W. >> Do you understand what I'm asking you to do? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you Do you know numbers? Okay, I'm going to have you look right here at the tip of my pen. I'm going move from side to side. I want you to follow with your eyes and your eyes only. Don't move your head for me. Okay. So, look right here for me. Okay. So, you said you said you had about seven drinks. How long ago was that? >> Like like an hour ago. >> An hour ago. Okay. Do you know what time it is now? >> Like around 2 3:00 a.m. >> One more time. >> 2 or 3:00 a.m. >> Two. Kind of close. Okay. Okay. >> Yeah. Cuz I was I was not supposed to leave the um there. But >> Okay. Is Is your friend staying here at the hotel with you or >> No, that's my hotel. Yeah, my friend is there. But she's staying there with you. >> No, we're also >> in the hotel room. >> Yeah, they're there. >> Okay. Do you have anybody else like staying at the hotel room with you? >> No. >> No, it's just the two of you. >> No, it's us and then my other friends >> and then your other friend under his name. >> It's not uh not any of these people walking up. Is it >> Wait, where? >> Uh there's two people walking up right now. I'm just trying to figure out like did you call anybody and tell someone? >> I told them. Yeah, we got pulled over, but I don't think they they're coming. >> What is it? Is it them? >> No, it's not them. Um, let's do this. Why don't you go ahead and step out for me? Here's what I'm going have you do. Okay? Same thing we kind of did outside. Maybe you stare right here at the tip of this pattern and move from side to side. I want you to follow with your eyes and your eyes only. Don't move your head for me. Okay? Stare right here for me. Okay? >> All right. Next thing we're going to do, um, space is kind of limited, okay? So, I'm going to do my best to kind of show you how this is going to work. Okay. Um, what I'm going to have you do is just back up just a couple steps for me. >> Yep. Right about there. Okay. What I'm going to have you do is I want you to go ahead and put your left foot down and your right foot right in front of your left. Just like this. Standing heel to toe. Okay. So, look just like this. I'm going to try and demonstrate it the best I can for you given our limited space. Okay. So, you're going to get just like this. Arms out your sides. Left foot down. Your right foot directly in front of it touching heel to toe. Just like that. Okay. You're going to hold that position till I tell you to start. Don't start until I tell you to do so. >> Okay. >> No, no, no. You're gonna hold that position. Just don't start the test until I tell you to start. Does that make sense? >> So, you're just going to hold that starting position till I tell you to start. Okay. Do you understand the test I just explained to you? Okay. Do you remember the starting position? Do you remember the starting position? Okay. It's your right foot in front of your left foot touching heel to toe. >> This one? >> Yep. So, that's your right foot. Okay. Keep your arms down your sides. Whenever you feel ready, you can go at him again. Okay. Uh, next test we're going to do. Okay. Um, go ahead and you can just stand right there for me. Keep your arms at your sides, your feet together, just like this. I'm going to go and explain the test. Okay. For this test, do you have any injuries to your knees or anything like that? No bad knees or foot or anything like that? So, um, this is going to be the one leg stand us. Okay. You're going to raise whichever foot you feel most comfortable with. I'm gonna go ahead and raise my left foot. Okay. You're gonna raise that foot approximately six inches off the ground pointing your toe upwards. You're gonna keep your arms down your sides. You're going to square down your toe and you're going to count out loud. Hold on. I'll I'll show you. Okay. Your arms down your sides just like this. You're going to raise that foot approximately 6 in off the ground pointing your toe upwards. Whichever foot you want. >> Okay. I know your friends are out there. They keep looking in here. Right. Let's just try and get through this so we can get things moving along. Okay. >> You understand what Tess I just explained to you? You said, "Oh, it's 1,00." >> You're going to count out loud. 1 1,00 2 1, right? >> One more time. >> Count down. >> No, no, no. Just count up just like Yeah. 1 1,00 2 1,00 3 100 >> pointing your toe outward, right? And staring down at your toe. to 100,000 >> staring down at your toe. >> How many? >> Exactly how I explained to do it. >> I forgot. >> Forgot. All right. >> After a breathalyzer test showed a result exceeding the legal limit, she was placed under arrest in accordance with the law. blow my hand. I'm like, we're not. >> You actually have to blow. Okay. The machine is very smart. So, it's going to know if you're not actually blowing or if you're sucking in. Okay. So, you got to give me a nice deep breath out. All right. >> When I'm like, >> you got to go just like that into it. Okay. It's going to keep beeping. I'm going to tell you to keep going. I'll tell you when to stop. Okay. So, whenever you're ready, you want to step forward. See your lips around the tube. Give me a nice deep breath out. >> Keep going. More. More. More. More. More. More. More. More. More. More. More. More. More. More. More. More. More. More. More. More. More. Good. Go. >> What did it say? >> Do you know what the legal limit in the state of Illinois is? 08. Okay. This is going to show us what you're 08. >> 08 is the legal limit in the state of Illinois. So, you're at a 0.251. Okay. You understand what that means? You're more than double the legal limit. >> I know. That's why I was not trying to leave the hotel. But if you're like, I was I was going to ask you something. If my cousin has a license, can she drive the car? But you >> What's going to happen? We have a tow truck coming to get the car out. >> I understand where the hotel is. Okay. We have a tow truck coming to get the car out. Okay. I'm going to have you take your purse off cuz I don't want you wearing it while we go. I am going to be placing you under arrest for DUI. Okay. >> Yes. Um, so go ahead and let's take the purse off that way uh you don't have it on you. Is there anything illegal in it? >> No. Okay. We'll we'll just let it leave you on. Okay. So, I'm going to go ahead and have you put your cameras by your back. You are going to right now. Okay. Yeah, come on. We just have some paperwork to do. We're going to have to go back to the police department. You're not going to do big framing of jail or anything like that unless you have some crazy criminal history. Okay? We're going to have a little bit of paperwork to do. You can get picked up from the police department. >> Okay. I'm going to go ahead and double lock these so that they don't lock up anymore. >> You're going to go back to the Downer Grove Police Department. That's where you're currently at. You're in down. >> Say it again. Why do you want to How are you How are you going to call them if you give them your phone? Do you know their phone numbers? >> Well, then how are you going to call for a ride to get picked up from the police department? >> Hold on. Stop. Hold on. >> However, when her friend arrived so the police could formally notify them of the incident, the woman continued to argue, further complicating the situation. >> Do me a favor. >> Can you move my car in here? and then I'll hold the phone in. Thank you. >> Wait. You should be able to move it. >> Are you Are you fine with me telling them what's going on? >> Yeah. Okay. Here's what's happening. Okay. She is being placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. There is a tow truck coming to pull the car out cuz the car is stuck. The wheel is sunk down so it cannot be pushed out. >> Tweaking. >> Okay. Regardless, the tow truck has to >> there cuz it's his car. I I understand that you can't tow it there because she's being arrested for DUI. So, the car has to get towed back to the tow company. Okay. So, what's going to happen is she's going to get taken back to the police department. She has a little bit of paperwork that she's going to have to do. She'll get booked and released tonight. So, she'll be able to call someone. So, someone will have to come pick her up or she can call her. >> One of the two. >> You got to call her though. You can number >> You're going to have to call them at the station. So, you can have to know his number by hard or bring your phone with you. Unless >> I'll bring my phone with you. That's perfectly fine. Okay. Um, you'll get booked and released from the police department. It usually takes like 3 4 hours. Okay. >> Okay. It'll be quicker than 3 or 4 hours. Okay. Have you ever been arrested before? >> No. >> I just told you it's not going to work. >> No, I don't want to get arrested at all. >> Unfortunately, you're already arrested. >> I'm not arrested. You just you couldn't let me go. You just want to be on both. The way it works, unfortunately. >> It's the worst time I ever get arrested. >> Okay. Well, hopefully it's the last time, right? >> Yes, Ari. Right, Ari. >> There's not You don't have anything illegal on you? >> You're illegal. >> It is dead. >> Is there Is there anything Is there anything illegal in the car? >> I'm illegal. >> It is. I'm missing me. >> No, I'm illegal. >> You left. >> Do you have anything illegal in your car? >> It was funny. Nothing's funny. >> All right, then. >> This you get on. The other the other officer is pulling my car in the lot so I don't have to try and walk you over there and cuss cuz I don't want you to fall. All right. Once he pulls into the lot, then we'll >> I just want to wipe my tears. >> Say it again. >> I want to wipe my tears. >> Okay. Well, unfortunately, you're in handcuffs right now, so you can't wipe. >> I feel like a criminal. >> Well, you're not. I think you made a poor decision tonight, but I don't think you're a criminal. >> You made a poor decision. >> You should have listened to me, friend. But you don't listen. >> I was just trying to go get a juice instead of living. That's all I was trying to do. What the >> You probably should have just walked to be honest. With such a crazy situation, the comments that followed after the video was released are also noteworthy. A manager who can't manage her alcohol consumption and emotions is not a very good manager. They are Spanish is like this sober too. They keep brawling. She's the town bike. Every geyser in the spot is sticking up for her. How did that become physical? >> Um, she's 19 and [clears throat] her >> Where were you guys? Were you guys in your bedroom? Were you guys in your room and then what happened? >> You guys were arguing and then what? >> How did it get physical? She slapped me while I was sitting down. Why do you How did you come to that conclusion? >> Did she say it to you or >> she was herself? [clears throat] >> She was physically trying to do like harm herself. >> Okay. >> And then you were trying to stop her from it. >> Is that when you guys started getting physical or did she get physical with you before she started trying to do something? >> No, I think it might have been before and after. before and after. >> Okay. Do you have an ID on you? >> Okay. >> After checking on her ex-girlfriend, an officer verified that she had bruises and injuries. >> No, I'm her girlfriend. X. >> Ex-girlfriend. I showed up yesterday because I was worried about her and then I ended up spending >> answer you had like text message calls. >> Yeah. >> Okay. And I showed up and my grandma walked up and she answered the door and she told me to go up and she told me to stay. So I asked to stay the night. >> This was yesterday. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> She [snorts] was acting all strange, telling me how she was possessed and >> Okay. >> taking it out on me. >> What type of stuff was she saying? >> That there's like multiple people in her head and I never know if I'm really talking to her. >> What started the the physical altercation? Cuz one of those people doesn't like me. >> One of the people in her head doesn't like you. >> I can see you got a injury in your hand. No. >> No. She bit me. >> She bit you there. Okay. I can see your face. You got some bruising. Okay. And you got >> She was on me, so I went like that. So, I did do something. Yeah. >> There's nothing wrong with defending yourself, especially if she's on you. Okay. Um, so what I'm going to do is cuz a lot of times just stand like that. Okay. A lot of times if if you don't get the the pictures right away, I mean the pictures actually really don't say it. I can see it. I can see there's a little bit of purple bumping up on the on the lump on your head. So, anytime there's a h head injury like that, we want to make sure you get looked at cuz that's stuff that'll come back and haunt you 3 hours later if you got a concussion. >> After that, the police collated and discussed the data they had collected. >> I got I got her >> thoughts. Okay, she's >> and she's got lumps all over her face. I took photos. >> I got her statements. So, I'm going to have the medics look at her. She's probably need all three of the lumps in this chick's face. Okay. She's claiming that she initiated she slapped her in the face. She can't recall which side of the face, but she slapped her twice. She slapped her once. >> So, I don't know if it's both. >> And both of them would have to go. >> Okay. I'm going to >> see what see what the surge says, but >> yeah. But out here, >> she has actual >> Yeah, she's got lumps on her head. She's got lumps on her head. She's got a scratch here. She says she was bit on the hand. >> Okay. >> You can see the lumps on her head and her face. >> Okay. >> So, >> and did she say it was the brother or did she say it was a girlfriend? She said it was a girlfriend. She said that she has multiple personalities and one of the personalities didn't like her. >> They were arguing back and forth because they're on and off relationship. She >> Yeah. for her lumps on her face and psych. >> Suicidal statements. She tried to kill herself. >> Ultimately, they decided to put the girl under arrest for abusing her former girlfriend. >> Has anybody got pictures? >> All right. Okay, just step down. So, right now you're under arrest for domestic battery. I'm going to need you to turn around and put your hands behind your back. >> And what about her? >> She too will be under arrest. >> She got tiny wrists. What? >> You just pull it. >> Oh, fancy. >> All right. You going to bring this back? >> All right. I'll give her a second. >> Have her step down. >> Yeah, have her step down this way. >> Just step down this way. >> Well, there's a couple of us to make sure she doesn't fall. >> Come on down this way. This Karen was accused of domestic abuse after allegedly punching her spouse during a furious dispute. This situation and the girl's response in the released video received a lot of comments. "That is some of the fakest crying I've ever heard. Crying with no tears must be a thing with these toddlers," Seh. And they'll be back together next week. This case demonstrates how emotions can impair judgment, but the evidence ultimately decides the decision and violence always has legal repercussions. What a stubborn Karen. The woman behind the wheel failed to produce any identification when requested. >> See this with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. Okay. Uh reason why I'm stopping you today is because of the registration. It says it's expired in 2023. >> Yeah. Uh the owner of the car says he's getting it transferred over from California. So we just moved here um probably about a month ago. >> Gotcha. Okay. So is this your car? >> No, this is his car. I'm on the phone with >> It's his car. >> I just let him know what was going on here. >> Okay. Can I see driver's license? >> I got my ID. I have um the D6 form I forgot to pick up when I went to the driver's license office or >> So you don't have a driver's license? >> Um they told me I had it, but when I paid for it, but they didn't give me a new ID because it >> So, do you have a driver's license or you don't? >> They gave me a paper that I was supposed to carry around with me, but I don't carry the paper. >> Okay. But what I'm trying to say is, do you have a driver's license? You don't know? >> Okay. Have you been pulled over before? >> No. >> No. Okay. Give me one second. Although it took some time for her to comply, the officer ordered her to exit the car as soon as he reported the incident to his supervisor. >> Yeah, [snorts] I ran the tag and it's got a expired tag since like last year, 2023. Well, that's why. Suspended indefinitely. Failed to pay child support. She was issued a warning by George Zachary. What? This was in 2019. That's why. >> I guess not then. >> Traffic warning for expired temp tag. >> Yeah. Well, >> I take it she knows she's not supposed to be driving. >> She said she was supposed to go pick up her driver's license the some other day or some [ __ ] like that, which I doubt because she's been she has an ID card with two suspensions. One for child delinquency. >> Yeah, I'm probably going to take her. Hey, I'll be good. I'm just going to give her a notice to here. Okay. >> Thank you, bro. All right. Uh, do you want to come on out with me? >> No, I'm staying in my vehicle. >> Uh, well, I'm asking you right now to step out. >> Um, I know my legal rights and I'm going to stay in my vehicle. I don't >> um right now I'm giving you a lawful command to please step out of the vehicle. If if you disobey my orders, you will you will be taken to jail. >> Why would >> Because you're refusing to comply. >> Um I'm out of my safety and stay right here. >> So, are you refusing to exit the vehicle? >> I would like to talk to your supervisor. >> Are you refusing to exit the vehicle? >> I can talk to your supervisor. >> You're speaking to me right now. >> If I could talk to your supervisor, then that would be great. >> Okay. Well, okay. Perfect. She resisted the police's attempts to arrest her, making it challenging for them to transport her to the patrol car. My husband told me it was okay to get out. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> No. >> Stop resisting. >> Stop resisting. >> Put your hands behind your back, >> sir. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Put the phone down. Put the phone down. >> Put the phone down. >> Um, I need to call my attorney. >> Stop. Stop reaching for the phone. I'm not disrespecting you. >> My husband's with my kids and I need to talk to my kids. >> Okay, we will get >> You guys are scaring me. Stop tensing up. Stop tensing up on me. >> I I just been raped not long ago and you're scaring me. >> Ma'am, stop. We're on the side of the road. Stop. >> You're scaring me. >> I'm just holding on to you. That is it. Ma'am, relax. Do you need >> You're scaring me. You're really scaring me. >> I'm going to roll an ambulance. >> Just give me two seconds. You're scaring me. Just like when you asked me to get out the car. I just need two seconds. >> We're going to walk to the back of my car. >> I need to grab my phone, please. >> You can't hold on to your stuff. >> Yes, I can. >> Ma'am, stop. I don't 13. Can you roll? Medication reference panic attack. >> I need to get my backpack over. >> We will get that. I will get that stuff for you. >> You're scaring me. Can I just go in? Can I go in without you touching me, please? >> I'm not going to touch you. >> I'm not going to touch you cuz it seems like you don't have anything on you. >> No, I just [ __ ] I've been right on you. She persisted in disputing with the officers after getting inside the car. >> So, this is what's going to happen. I was only going to issue you a court date and I was going to give you a ride to the city. >> I just needed I told you to step out to the vehicle >> and I needed time. I know you don't know about PTSD. I just need >> It doesn't matter. When I tell you to step out of the vehicle, you got to you got to listen to my commands. >> But I also need a second for myself. It wasn't trying to be disrespectful. >> It doesn't work like that. I don't go on your time. You go with what I tell you to. And I I told you multiple times, please step out of the vehicle. I was not going to even place you under arrest. Yes, you are driving with an ID card and your driver's license was cancelled last year. >> That's what my husband said. I just left the hospital. Look, >> okay. >> And I just want So, this is what we're dealing with. >> I just want to get home to my kids. This is what I was trying to do. >> Perfect. I told you multiple times, please step out of the vehicle. And you refused to. So, now you will be having an additional charge of resisting without violence. >> But I'm not resisting. You just need to give me a second. It doesn't work like that. When I ask you to do something, you do it. So, it doesn't go like that. I'm going to have an ambulance come check you out before we start going. Okay. >> Where does my car somebody get my car? >> It's going to get towed. >> The vehicle is going to get towed. >> Can I get my backpack in it? >> I will go ahead and get that stuff ready for you. >> You want your phone and keys to go with you? >> Yes, please. >> Okay. >> She declined to answer questions from the police. >> Hey, do you still want uh the ambulance in route to come check you out? I mean, I I don't I just >> You were having a panic attack. >> You're freaking me out. You understand that? I was not long ago. >> I know, but I've been I've been respectful to you. >> I don't know what you're going to do to me. >> Okay. Well, now you're now you're placed under arrest. So, do you want to see an ambulance? It's still coming. Do you want to see it? >> I would like to get my backpack. >> Okay. We will I will get that going for you, but would you still like >> You don't need an ambulance to call my husband. >> Do you don't want to see medical attention? That's what I'm asking. She kept complaining while in the car, claiming that she had done nothing wrong. >> It was simple as just listen to my instructions. You were going to get a pork order and you were going to be >> and all I needed was a second to get myself together. >> No, it doesn't work that way. >> I know it doesn't work for you that way. >> No, it doesn't work. >> No, but it it does. >> I s you can't ask somebody to kill themselves. Do you understand? If I had a panic if I had a panic attack and died, who would have been in charge? >> I didn't ask you. >> You told me to get out and I needed a second for that. Yes. You said I am not stepping out of the vehicle. I am requesting a supervisor [snorts] >> cuz I don't feel safe. >> Okay. >> So your supervisor could have came out probably >> and that was going to happen >> and they could have spoken to me a little bit better. >> You know what my supervisor would have done? We would have the vehicle. >> I you know I would think he would sit there and talk to me and say, "Ma'am, you know what? You're probably safe." But you see, after you asked me to step out the vehicle and you walked away, I was able to get out because you were so close to me. >> I didn't like I know you may not understand, but being life isn't fun. Okay. So, having a male that close to me puts me in a panic attack. >> So, [snorts] I know you don't care about people's health. >> And they request you to do something explicitly when they >> And when it's and when it is jeopardy to my health, I have the right to protect myself and my health. >> Okay. [snorts] >> I'm a true and firm believer about that. If I knew a lady was going to get out the car and she could have killed over, I would have talked to her through the through the car. There was no reason to take me out the vehicle. >> There is because I wanted you to sign your court order. That >> And is that something you couldn't bring to me, officer? >> It's not to be disrespectful. It's just I think when you were going to >> No, when you approach people, you could be nicer about it. You don't have to be. So >> I said, "Ma'am, can you please [snorts] step out of the vehicle?" >> Yeah. And that makes people feel unsafe, unfortunately. >> Next time say, "Ma'am, you know, I need you out the vehicle to do this instead of just get out the vehicle." And you see cop videos of people getting slammed and hurt and raped against their own [ __ ] cars. >> Ma'am, there's a there's a video going at my car. >> Cool. And I know police officers that have done it, sir. So, and it's no disrespect to you or even the the police officer force. It's there are bad people in there and you got to agree to it because you know that there is. How am I supposed to know if you're good or not? The person I thought was good did it to me. I literally just got off a phone with my sergeant and I [snorts] said I'll be just going to have her step out of the vehicle. Sign the citation >> and you could easily talk to that way and said, "Get out the vehicle. Get out the vehicle." >> Get out of the vehicle. I said, "Ma'am, I need you to step out of the vehicle." >> So maybe next time if you just want a better approach, let somebody know why they're getting out the vehicle. Back up. >> The thing is that I don't explain myself like that. I can ask for a request and then what? We're out of >> No, but what makes what makes you more superior to do that? If I told you, sir, get out the vehicle so I could hurt you, would you do it? I'm sorry. >> If somebody was to ask you, hey, get out of your vehicle, would you do it? >> If a law enforcement officer >> No, I'm not talking about law enforcement. We're talking about you're the same person as I am. Yes. You're a human being. >> Yes. And right now, I'm in the capacity of a law enforcement officer. >> Okay. And in that same capacity, we have our legal rights. >> You I have a marked patrol >> and I have my legal rights to not do so. Right. If justified. No. >> Yes. Listen, but I my husband my husband does a lot of stuff like that. >> Okay. Well, there's [snorts] >> So, my legal right was if I felt unsafe or to do something was to call for a supervisor, which is what I asked you to do. >> That was my legal right. >> Well, there's case law. You should read into it. Maybe [snorts] uh when law enforcement to step out of the vehicle, that's within within uh our legal right. >> Yes. And he tell me why to step out the vehicle. You weren't you didn't do that. I said, "Man, I thought you >> But you never told me why. >> I don't know. >> That doesn't even make sense to me." >> So, if I decide to put on a little badge or do something, I mean, don't get me wrong, y'all help and protect a lot, but y'all can't take that out of your whim to, you know, do things that are just incorrect. >> I've been fair with you since I stopped you up until now. Like, was I not respect? Well, you could have and did I not come out the vehicle? >> Were we not engaged in any >> Actually, you just you just asked me a few questions. So, no, it wasn't a huge conversation. It was just simple thing. >> Okay. Exactly. But was I not respectful to you that was >> Yes. And I was trying to, too. Which is exactly what I got out of the vehicle once you walked away. I did not feel safe when I was going to open the door. There was going to be a man there. Does that make sense to you? I don't know how you would think that's safe. That would be just like a stranger, which you are, at my vehicle telling me to get out the car. >> That is how PTSD people view it. I just needed the human curio curiosity of [ __ ] sitting there and being delay and understanding that I can't do things in an instant. There's some people that don't function that way. Well, the whole point is I know I'm not a freaking criminal and yet I'm still sitting here in the back. This Karen was officially accused of one count of obstructing an officer without using force and one count of operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver's license. Following the video's online release, various people left comments with their opinions. She sure is mouthy for someone who is scared. Her panic attack ends abruptly. To argue and complain continuously, "Why is this cop arguing with her? Never argue with an idiot. You can't win." The lesson is that while resistance and denial simply result in further problems, cooperation with the authorities helps avert escalation. What do you think about these situations?
