Now we got all she just pulled a knife on me. 153 can not avail available. >> All right, everybody. Welcome back. We got another video for you. This one comes from Midwest Safety and it is officer doesn't know. She's holding a butcher knife. I haven't seen it. Let's go. >> PLEASE DON'T TOUCH ME, DAD. >> PLEASE DON'T TOUCH ME, DAD. >> STOP. STOP. STOP. STOP. STOP. Please don't let her touch. >> Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop moving. >> Please don't touch me. >> Stop moving. Stop moving. Stop moving. You really don't understand. Stop moving. Stop moving. >> You can you can be trapped in a place like this. >> I can't. No, you don't understand. You get me trapped in a place. I CAN'T GET OUT OF >> Y really don't care, do you? >> Running back. Come on. >> No. >> Get out of here. Come on. >> Oh, dang. >> You doing? Drop that. >> No. >> Drop that. >> What is this lady doing over here? Now we got She just pulled a knife on me. 153. They can not available. >> Okay, right there. I was going to tase her. When she pulled the knife, she is already in the danger zone where you're in trouble. And look how long it took this female uh deputy to get her taser going. And so, like, if that lady would have charged at her, she wouldn't have been able to taser in time. That was a lethal force situation. They had every right to use lethal force there and could have and would have been completely justified because she was well within the danger zone that 21 which I think they've extended out to 25 ft rule. So they are lucky that she is lucky that they did not shoot her in this situation. And part of it was because I don't think that they were this to my point, they didn't get their weapon out of their holster in time to be able to do it. And then she started moving into the grass there. >> Yeah, I know. And then she pulled out a freaking knife. >> You all right? >> Yeah. My shoe's not, but I am. I'm going to go this way to see if she tries to break out that way. Stay on the ground. >> Okay. So, he's got the taser out. I think I would have my gun out. Um, you know, she has a knife, a big knife. Uh, maybe have somebody else with the taser, but if I'm the guy there at the front and nobody is even close to me with a a less lethal or a non-lethal, then I would be absolutely I would have my gun out here. But I'm not there. The, you know, police officers, they're in the moment. They're feeling what it is, the danger. So, I got to trust that this guy is probably feeling what needs to be done here. >> You can hardly even see in there. >> Sigma zero. She's running at the end of the wood line. >> Running her mouth the whole time. I don't even know what she's even saying. ANY MORE? >> How are you? Good. >> Yeah, I'm right behind her. We're into the homeless camp northbound into the woods from on ramp. >> You can hear her. She If she wanted to get away, she should stop talking. But she's I think she's saying go away. Go away. You can't pull a knife out on a cop and then just have that go away or have that be the end of it and then nothing happens to you. Um, there has to be some consequences and I think I'm got a sneaky suspicion that she's going to feel those consequences. >> I'm on the other side of the homeless camp. Stack off till the dog gets here. >> Yeah, we got about 25 yards and a whole bunch of trees between us. I'm just keeping eyes on distance. >> Smart. I appreciate I'll be the source. Her name is Melody in case you want to try to talk to her. But >> so clearly they've dealt with her before. This guy's deputy smart. She's not endangering anybody right now. That's what you're going to weigh out. For example, if she was in a crowded area, you're going to have to deal with her. But she's not. And you know she's in this woods. She's limited on how far she can go, where she can go. He's got an eye on her. Now it starts to get a little bit different because you don't know who's in this camp, whether she poses a danger to those people in the camp as well. >> Look like a big red. >> All right. She just entered a tent. She zipped it up. We'll just wait for Kan to do a challenge on it. >> Can you feel the color of her tent? >> It's green on the bottom and it's tan on the top. It's a whole big old camp back here. I see you. You're right. I'm right to your right. Right here. Sorry. Turn around. She's right inside that tent right there. Yeah. I don't know if there's any other occupants in there. What's her name? >> She said it was Melanie. I don't know if that's actually her name or not. She said she doesn't remember. She's single zero at the ninth. >> There's a guy says I was seen on you. >> Who it is? Please let me go. >> You need to come out of that now. The dog's in the city and you will get bit. >> There is two of me. >> Do you understand? >> There's two of There's two of me. I have another one of me. Crazy. >> Please don't drive me away. You literally scared me forever. >> Do you understand what I'm telling you? >> Scared. Please. >> No. Not your hands up or the dog will bite you. Now come out with your hands. You need to come out your hands up or the dog will be sick and you will get bit. >> Is there anybody crossfire wise on that side? >> Is there anybody? >> I don't know. >> A real being. >> If there's any unicmp trapped in places you cannot touch me. You can legally not >> That's it. I got pull the tent down cuz then it kind of traps on her so where she can't move as freely. So kind of smart. Just let the tent collapse on her. >> Melody, come out. >> You can legally >> You don't have to go here as far me. >> I would just be so thankful. >> You have a dog. Come out your hands up for me. >> Melanie, you come out your hands up or you will get bit. >> Please don't touch me. Please don't. I I am starved to death. >> So they're cutting the tent. There's your hole. >> No, don't come out from there. >> WEIRDO. DON'T TOUCH ME. >> OH, be careful, Sarge. >> Hey, SHOW ME YOUR HAND. >> DON'T TOUCH ME, WEIRDO. >> I'm a [ __ ] Don't touch me. >> DROP THE KNIFE. >> NO, SIR. >> I wouldn't send the dog in either. >> No. >> Don't touch me. Light her up. >> Can you get on? >> She's a light her up. DON'T TOUCH ME. DON'T TOUCH ME. DON'T TOUCH ME. >> HEY, ME. >> YEAH, BUT YOU can't get to her. >> Don't touch me, creep. >> Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no. Be careful. >> Be careful, Sandy. >> So, DON'T TOUCH ME. SIR, DON'T TOUCH ME. I WILL NO, SIR. That helped you in a weird way. [laughter] [sighs and gasps] >> I'm laughing because the female deputy is there and the lady's saying, "Sir, don't touch me." >> IT STARS ME AGAIN. YOU STAR ME A death of a prophet. I scream in that room and you don't give me no drink. >> You don't give me no drink. >> That's scream. No. You're so creepy. >> Careful. Careful. >> Please. >> You got it. >> I'm terrified. >> PLEASE. >> ALL RIGHT. Come out. Come out with your hands up. You won't be hurt. >> Trap me, sir. >> Come out with your hands up. >> Can you just come out? >> Even the dogs like, "Guys, I don't know what's going on here. Um, I don't know if we should go in there. down and come out. >> Usually the dogs are like barking barking. What's happening? >> You heard? No. >> Listen, we don't want you to get hurt. YOU >> DROP THAT KNIFE or the dog is going to bite you. Do you understand? Scared to death. >> Drop the knife. Melanie, >> drop the knife. The dog IS GOING TO BITE YOU. >> THAT'S THE WOR THE STEREOS. >> NO, SIR. >> SO, I'll take you when you're ready. >> What's your name then? >> You know my name. >> Melanie. >> Are you Melanie or No, >> I I've always been named things. So, >> okay. So, what do you want to go by? >> Staff. I don't have the dog either. Hey, what do you what do you want to be called? >> She was right on the back side. If we get her back to the back for this, I'm going to try to tase her. >> Jeez, that's a high tension. >> I'm on the spin, sir. Please. Please don't hurt me. All of you get me. Please don't hurt me. Straight. Get straight. >> Oh, come out. >> What hurt you? Come out [laughter] of the tent. >> Hurt me, Dad. Please don't hurt me, Jack. Please. Please, >> she got that knife. >> Chris, don't hurt me. The dog's like, "Don't throw me on there. I'm not trying to get stabbed." >> Dad, please. This is real. I'm a real person. >> The dog can't see her. >> So, the dog doesn't know to bite her. >> Oh, no. >> Be careful. >> She's trying to stab her through that. >> Please. No. Don't hurt me. >> Don't touch me. >> Back up. Stand back. Hey, listen. I appreciate the aggressiveness of this female deputy. She got after it. This is a dangerous situation with that knife. >> You come here. >> Back over here. Get out of there. Candy, back up. Now, >> the other problem we have right now is if you look around, we have crossfire. So, if anybody does start to have to use um use their firearm, you got this deputy over here. If she shoots back, you got these deputies on this side. You need to create a safe backdrop that if you do have to use it, not that you want to let her out that way, but create somewhere where you have a line where you you have to create a safe backdrop. And so I would move the female deputy back around over to this side. >> This is why we all carry knives and stuff. >> She's She's trying to stab him. Okay. Get her on this side. Get her on this dude. What's wrong with you? >> They're She is so lucky they haven't shot her. >> Why would you want to know? >> Keep it going. That really hurts. That really hurts. >> It's like they've got her in a net. Uh like a >> She's JUMPING INTO ZERO. >> DON'T touch me. >> CROSSFIRE. CROSSFIRE. CROSSFIRE. >> CROSSFIRE. SEE? YOU DON'T COME OUT NOW. >> SIR, I'M A VICTIM. >> EVERYBODY CROSSFIRE. >> PUT THE KNIFE OUT THE PIT NOW. >> YOU'RE GOING TO BE OKAY, SIR. >> PUT THE PIT OUT NOW. >> YOU'RE GOING TO GET SHOT. >> DO IT NOW. >> PLEASE. I'M A VICTIM. >> DO IT NOW. >> I'M A REAL >> PUT THE KNIFE OUT THE PIT NOW. >> DO IT NOW. >> DO IT NOW. >> DO IT NOW. >> DROP THE KNIFE OUT. >> DO IT NOW. >> Oh man, she's so close. She is so close to getting shot. She's not dropped it yet. >> So bad. >> PUT THE KNIFE OUT THE PIT NOW. >> PUT THE KNIFE OUT NOW. >> Still got a major crossfire situation. >> I see it. >> Melanie, put the KNIFE OUT THE NOW. DO IT NOW. >> PUT THE KNIFE DOWN. >> DO IT NOW. MELODY. >> MELODY, WE'RE not going anywhere. Drop the knife and come out. We don't want to hurt you. >> PUT THE KNIFE DOWN AND COME OUT. >> We don't have to end this way. Don't >> come out. >> Put the knife out. >> We're trying to help you. >> Hey, move out just in case. >> Please just let me have space to drink. >> Melody, come out. Put the KNIFE OUT THE TENT. >> PUT THE KNIFE OUT THE TENT. >> YOU'RE NOT CARE ABOUT ME AT ALL. >> You forced me to be here. >> Second night. >> Melody, I will talk to you and give you water if you come OUT OF THE TENT, BUT WE CANNOT help you until you come out. Melanie, come on out for >> it. >> Please, Dad. Please. Please, Dad. Please don't hurt me. No. No. Don't hurt me. Don't hurt me. Please. Please. Please. You don't have >> Drop the knife. Do it now. >> You'll never care about me. >> Drop the knife. Do it now. >> People got some real problems. >> YOU'RE NOT YOU don't hurt me. This can't be. THIS CAN'T BE. DROP THE KNIFE. >> What the heck? >> I got to be honest with you, Tennis provided a surprising amount of protection for her. Um, but if they would have they're being so gracious by not using um deadly force in this one >> with you guys. That really hurt me. >> Drop the knife. They understand there's some mental health here. >> We don't want to hurt you. >> I'm terrified. >> Drop the knife. >> Now taser. Taser. >> Melody, I don't want to taser again. >> Come on. Drop the knife. Taser. >> I know. Why don't you go ahead and hurt me? >> Drop the knife. >> Tony, nobody wants to hurt you. >> He just wants you to drop the knife. Nobody want the knife. >> I get trapped in it forever. >> YOUR RIGHT HAND. >> FOREVER, GUYS. >> Drop the knife. >> Forever. >> Understand. You get taken away. >> Can you drop the knife? >> Don't let me be. I wouldn't want to die. >> Drop the knife. >> Melanie, >> all you got to do is drop the knife. We can get you water. >> I mean, guys, what do you do in this situation? We deal with this a lot. A lot of mental mental health problems. Clearly, she's just going off all over the place and who knows what's going through her head, but um she is so lucky that she did not get shot or hasn't been shot. I don't know how it ends. >> Forever and you do all of your things first. You never care about ME. I KNOW. >> I KNOW. HELP, SIR. >> DROP THE KNIFE. >> DROP THE KNIFE. DROP THE KNIFE. OUT OF YOU. >> I'm sorry. I'm out. Get on the ground. >> Why are you hurting me? See, now the dog can see the person. Before the dog's like, "What are we doing to this tent?" I mean, I don't know. The dog was really putting two and two together that there was somebody inside of there. They weren't The dog wasn't barking. Now the dog's barking. Now the dog knows there's a threat. >> He already pulled that one out. >> I know, but >> Yeah. There's another knife right here. >> Big fillet knife. >> Yeah, there's a fillet knife with a black handle. >> Battery. >> She's dead. She's got a mark. But sure. >> So lucky. >> Are you done Melanie? >> I'm going tell you I like Sandy. Sandy the female deputy there. >> Hey Melanie, you said you're going to work with me, right? >> You're good. >> She said she's good as long as I don't leave her. >> Sandy is lucky. >> Good job, baby. After gaining control of the suspect, the officers escorted her out of the woods and placed her in a squad car where she was later taken to jail. The officer that was stabbed luckily received minimal minor cuts during the incident. She was given a tetanus shot at the hospital, treated for her minor injuries, and released. [music] The suspect, Melanie, was charged with felony aggravated assault on an officer. She is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law enforcement. So, we don't know what happened on the conviction or whether she was convicted or not. That was kind of intense. That was intent. Get it? Intense. I didn't mean to do that, but [laughter] it was intense. Intense. So, I I honestly these guys showed such professional restraint. Well done by this sheriff's office, these deputies. They could have absolutely taken this a totally different route. And a lot of times we're we're attacked and we get a lot of critics that say we should do our job better. This is what you don't normally see. This is the type of work that we do where we could have easily have taken a life um or they could have easily have taken a life, but they didn't. And this was just good work recognizing that there was somebody with mental health issue. She wasn't posing a threat to anybody else. They had basically contained the threat. Then the threat became to them, which is still important that we made a, you know, we stopped that threat. But I thought they were patient, but they were aggressive enough and they did the they did a good job. Thankfully, the female deputy, Sandy, wasn't hurt. Um, when she she was aggressive, jumped on her, and that lady was managed to to stab her and got her a little bit, nicked her in the stomach, I think. Maybe a couple other places, but anyway. Wow. This uh this is could have gone a totally different way, but I thought they did a really good job. Let me know what you think. How would you have handled this situation? would you have used deadly force in this situation or would you have um done what they did which was basically try to talk her out? They still had to be authority, you know, with with some authority, but eventually they were able to get her out. So, I thought job well done. Tons of restraint shown here. The whoever is training these guys, they they recognized it and used their training and uh thought it was really good. It was but it was intense. All right, folks. Let me know what you think.
