You committed a violation and that's not a crime. I don't know how this is going to work. >> So, how's it going to work then? I didn't commit a crime. So, what are you going to do? >> You committed a violation. What? >> Okay. Can you put your back to me? >> A police officer pulls over a couple and asks the woman for her license. She provides it without issue. When the man questions the reason for the stop, the officer claims they rolled through a stop sign, but the man points out there was only a yield. The officer insists it was a stop sign, then starts demanding the man's ID, saying his seat belt wasn't on. The man explains it's broken, but the officer says that doesn't matter. When the man asks if he committed a crime, the officer says it's a violation. The man refuses to hand over his ID, saying a violation isn't a crime. Watch how this routine stop quickly escalates into a debate over rights, authority, and the law. >> Hi guys, I'm officer. Please report. Can you see your license? >> There's no registration. Thank you. How about your license? >> What am I getting pulled over for? You rolled through that stop sign. >> What stop sign? >> The stop sign. >> You're lying. There's no stop sign. >> There's a yield, right? >> No, it's a stop sign. >> It's a stop sign. >> But why you come following us anyway? >> Anyways, it's fine. It's fine. >> I'm just turning around and coming back. >> I'm sure you are. I'm sure you was. >> But I'm stuck. >> I'm not giving you anything. >> You have to. You don't have a license seatelt on, bud. You got to give me your license. >> The seat belt's broken. >> It doesn't matter then. You don't have one on you. So, can you give me your ID? >> Did I Did I commit a crime? >> No. >> You're comm you committed a violation in >> That's not a crime. So, why do I have to give an ID? >> Because I can write you a ticket for your seat. >> So, write the ticket. >> I still I need your identification. >> You're not getting I'm not giving you ID. >> Okay. Well, that's not how this is going to work. >> So, how's it going to work then? I didn't commit a crime. So, what are you going to do? >> You committed a violation. >> What is it a violation? It's a citation. It's not a crime. >> How am I supposed to write you a citation? >> I don't know. I'm not going to do your job for you. Well, I can't I can't write you a >> So, we're going to sit here all night. Mom, I'm sorry to tell you. We're going to sit here all night. I didn't commit a crime. >> So, I'm I don't have to give you anything. >> All right. >> I'm not going to make their job easy, bro. >> I'm tell That's what I'm telling you. The seat belt's broken. Get the citation. Do whatever you got to do. >> Because I didn't come to a complete stop. Are you kidding me? This is insane. >> But M. You really don't have to come to stop my car because >> shut it off. Shut it off. Shut it off. >> This is harassment. I'm saying I'm going to sue my car and find out. >> I'm going to sue them. I'm going to sue them. Don't worry. They got >> She's on the phone with somebody. >> I'm not giving her no ID, bro. I didn't commit no crime. >> You're They can't ask your passengers for [ __ ] >> She said I didn't have a seat belt. >> It's a violation. It's not an arrest. >> But it's broken. The seat. So, just give me a ticket. Yeah. >> It's not an arrestable offense, though. >> She could ticket me. That's what's supposed to happen is the driver is supposed to get ticketed if anything. >> This is not how it's going to work. There's no crime involved. So why do I need to give you anything? >> I'm not giving you this is wild. >> I'm not giving no idea. >> And I'm like I know cuz I had slowed way down to go past that pile. So come to Ben Phoenix. >> No, it's just us. They straight harassing us, bro. Straight harassing us. >> It just doesn't make any sense. >> All right, bud. So this is how this is going to work. >> Here's the deal. >> If you just give me an ID, right? Then we don't have to do this. don't have to ask you to step out of the car and do all that stuff. So, if you just give me an ID >> for what crime did I commit? >> Because you're not wearing a seat belt. So, you have to ID yourself because if I'm going to >> That's not a crime, honey. It's not a crime. >> Listen, for me to give you ID, it has to be a crime involved. >> All right. That's not Well, I don't know what kind of code you're following because I follow the God's laws and I follow the law of the land. >> I didn't come to a complete stop. >> I'm being I'm not giving I didn't commit a crime. If there's a crime involved, I'll give you my ID. I'll be more than happy. >> I'll be more than happy to give you my ID if there's a crime involved. Your whole police station knows who we are. So, it's like, why y'all playing games with us? Yo, >> why are you guys playing? >> I'm starting to lose my patience with you, sir. >> Because you're not following the lawful orders. I'm >> ask I am, sir. You're using bully tactics, sir, to try to get me to violate my rights. >> Problem opening the door and pulling you out of the car and taking you under arrest. I will happily take you in front of a judge. So, you're you're the judge now and the jury. You're telling me I'm already guilty? >> No. Here's what's great. >> This cop pulled them over, but then suddenly turned his attention to the passenger, claiming he wasn't wearing a seat belt and immediately demanding his ID. But that was a lie. The man was wearing his seatelt. The only reason this officer targeted him was because of how he looked. He had already assumed guilt without a shred of evidence, making up a story just to justify the ID demand. He even threatened him with arrest. But this man was fully aware of his rights and held his ground, forcing the cop to back off and walk away empty-handed. >> Do you suspect me of a crime, sir? >> I'm telling you, >> you suspect me of a crime. >> Do not have your seatelt on from what I observe. That's why I made the traffic stop. In the state of Texas, you have to have every passenger has to have a seat belt on. >> And I have a seat belt on as the anybody in the video. >> You may now, sir. >> I didn't see it. >> Sir, what I think's happening here is you're baiting. You're looking at me and you're you're judging me by appearance. And I would rather a supervisor be on here because I know my rights. There's no supervisor. >> No, I don't have a supervisor. >> Okay. Well, we're live on footage here. And I do know at this point that unless I'm suspected of a crime, a judge needs to sign a warrant for you to go any further than where you're going. >> So, if you want to travel up and down this highway, >> I am not suspected of a crime. Am I >> Am I suspected of a crime? Seat belt on you. >> That's not a crime. which is a is an offense under the Texas drivers code under the the the code of uh for driving on our highway. You must have a seat belt on. Everybody in the vehicle must have one on. >> I get that. That's not the issue here. The issue is here. You have no right to ask me for my ID. >> See it. You said he had to have it on. If he did, I'm not asking her because she's not the one. >> She's the one driving. That is unbelievable. Okay. So, what you're doing is trying to judge me by appearance. I saw you pull up. It was all on video. You were behind us. You pulled up. You peeked in to look at me. And then you pulled this over. I'm sorry. It's no disrespect to you, sir. I'm telling you. >> That's really proper in front of your kids, >> sir. Okay. Good try. The issue is you're not being honest. So, I'm going to call you on it, sir. I know the law. I know that I have the right to refuse what I'm giving what you're asking me right now. And I would prefer someone else as a supervisor on the scene, sir. Someone >> your father. Is that what he said? >> That's the That's right. If you could convince him to just give me that information, it would be so much easier for you guys. We'd get you on down the highway, >> sir. >> I mean, there there's this is this is >> what's going on right now. >> It's not something that's a necessity on your >> It's not You didn't even ask the driver once for her license. You didn't ask for registration. >> She tried to give it to you. >> I don't need it. >> You need mine because you looked at me, sir. That is looking at me by discrimination on camera. You just admitted it. have a seat belt on. >> We're not consenting to any anything that you're doing right now. For what? >> For what crime? >> Seat belt. >> For you're going to detain me for not wearing a seat belt. >> I can actually take you to jail for it. >> And that's the only reason I'm refusing this. I have the right to do this. >> The way it works is if you have a judge, the way it works is if you have a judge >> Hold on. Go ahead. >> You have the right to refuse. >> Yes. >> Okay. You're and what you're doing at this point is you're refusing to to give me the information that's necessary to check you out to give you a citation or to give you a warning for what's occurred. That's it. >> Why wouldn't you just do that? Can you just do that then? Would that work since I don't have >> ID information? I No, I don't need your ID if you give me your name, number, and that's all I need. Sir, >> I'm really about to pee myself. >> That is not true. I don't roll ever without a seat belt. So, you're making up stories, sir. >> That's unfortunate. It is unfortunate that you would do this to a family right now for no reason on the side of the road. >> This is where it can get where it can get even more negative. Okay? Because I'm asking you to step out. If you don't want to step out, I don't have a problem you not stepping out. If you'll give me the information, but if you're going to continue arguing with me, then you need to step out here so we can have a conversation out here. I don't trust you're using bully tactics. My hands are right here. Everything's on video. And you're the one violating the Constitution, sir. >> Wonderful. >> Okay. You're the one that's going against what the Constitution says you can do. >> Has nothing to do with >> you can get a judge to sign a warrant based on any probable cause that you have to come at me like this the way you are. >> Now I don't cuz I was getting you let me get my son turned around when I made you stop. You can sit here for a moment. You're not free to go. By the way, >> I would really like to. >> So you're saying no, you're not going to do it. >> I'm telling you that there is no >> You want me to pull you out of the car and arrest you? Is that what you want? >> For what grounds? What have I done? >> Felling to ID yourself. >> That isn't That isn't a crime, sir. That's not a crime. >> You haven't committed a crime. You're not saying you suspect us of a crime whatsoever. And yet, you're holding us on the side of the road for no reason with a toddler. Sir, I'm begging you to please let us go. >> So, you're going to just do it because you have the right? >> Does that make it right? >> Absolutely. >> It makes it right because you have the right for you not to give me that. >> It does. Absolutely. That's the thing about being in the United States of America, sir. >> It is a wonderful. >> It is. I have that right to travel on this road as a passenger and not have you my ID or give you my info. This is not Germany. We're not at the border. I don't have to give you my papers. >> I I will tell you this. I'm starting to lose my patience with you, sir, >> because you're not following the law awful orders I'm >> I am, sir. You're using bully tactics, sir, to try to get me to violate my right opening the door and pulling you out of the car and taking you under arrest. Now what I will happily take you in front of a judge and he will decide whether what you've done is accurate or not. >> Which is what which is what I did? Denied to give you my name. >> Identify yourself when you've committed >> what >> a act on our highway that is illegal. So you're you're the judge now and the jury. You're telling me I'm already guilty. >> No. Here's what's great. >> You're saying I'm already guilty. >> When you sign a citation, it makes it very clear. >> I'm happy to sign a citation to show up in court, sir. >> Okay, awesome. I got to have your information, though. >> No, you don't. >> How How are you gonna How do I know? >> I'm not driving. >> Okay. So, you want me to take your daughter's information? I'll take her driver's license then if that's if that's how it's going to work. That's fine. I'm going to work with you. She's driving. >> That's how I do. Okay. >> If I don't have a good license and I >> I'll write her the citation instead. >> I'm sorry. The warning then instead. How about that? >> Well, is it a warning or citation? >> I don't feel great about it. >> I don't feel great, sir. It's just that you're violating my my >> I can piss. I really don't care. All I'm trying to do is >> I'm shaking so bad. >> You don't even have the right to ask her, dude. Here. So now, now >> give that to him. I'm not giving it to >> you to do and it's not good. >> She's giving you her license, sir. >> Oh, okay. I was just I'm just curious. Now I'm doing what you asked me to do and that's a problem. >> I didn't say I had a problem like yourself. >> I'm silent, sir. >> You're silent. You're still talking. Mouth's moving. >> You'd like to call or if this gentleman would like to make a complaint, there's the phone number right there you can contact. There's no date, court date, because obviously it's a warning. It's just saying that you and I sat over here and had this conversation. >> There you are, ma'am. >> Thank you. >> I appreciate your cooperation and courtesy, ma'am. Okay, you're free to go. >> Under the law, a passenger is not required to show identification during a traffic stop, unless they are suspected of committing a crime. And in this case, the man had done absolutely nothing wrong. The female driver complied fully with the officer's demands, but the passenger knew his rights and calmly refused to hand over ID. The officer falsely claimed the man wasn't wearing a seat belt, even though video clearly shows he was. But instead of backing down, this man stood his ground and challenged the officer's lies. It was clear the officer had profiled him based on his appearance and assumed guilt without any real reason. When intimidation didn't work, the officer tried escalating, threatening arrest, and ordering him out of the vehicle. But the man refused to be bullied, forcing the cop to back off from his unlawful demands. Despite repeatedly saying he needed the man's information for a citation, the officer couldn't justify it. In the end, the citation warning was issued in the driver's name, not the passengers, because the officer had nothing on him. Hats off to the passenger who didn't flinch, didn't get intimidated, and knew the law better than the man wearing the badge. That's why it's crucial to always know your rights, because officers like this clearly don't.
