Can I just say this? I was trying to protect my mom and you guys came at me in fight or flight mode, man. And then that guy attacked me as soon as I went up the stairs. I was trying to catch my fog from going down the stairs. He's not right right now. We're done with you. Um if you if if we get called back here though because you guys are causing a disturbance and someone else I'm just I'm just saying. I'm just letting you know if we get called back because there's more of a disturbance than someone else is going to end up. The family was subsequently kicked out of the hotel by hotel staff after continuing to be loud and uncooperative. The arrested [music] son was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. While he is innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law, he went on to file a federal lawsuit against the two officers involved with his arrest, claiming violations against his Fourth Amendment rights for wrongful arrest and excessive force, as well as claiming the officers ignored his disability and medical needs while in custody. While the claim for ignoring his disability needs was dismissed, [music] the court allowed his claim for violations against his Fourth Amendment rights to proceed. [music] While the officers now have the opportunity to respond to the claim, the case is still ongoing. Most people wake up expecting a normal day. Cops wake up knowing that any stranger's bad decision can become their problem in seconds. Step into any hostile call with an officer, and I promise you, you'll feel the tension before a word is [music] even spoken. You look at a guy who says he was just going to the pool, and your brain is already scanning. The speech, the alcohol, and the eyes too wild for the story. he's trying to sell. Some people imagine policing is a Q&A session, but in my years on the street, most of the job was decoding nonsense in real time just to get to the truth. We got hotel staff who has a problem with this guy, then other drunk guests yelling that you're not doing enough, as if drunk and hostility ever came with an instruction manual. Meanwhile, you're trying to gather clean facts from people who can't even walk straight, let alone give a coherent statement. You want to see a witness turn into a suspect? Watch what happens the second they won't give their information. The whole energy in the room changes because now you're not dealing with someone who's trying to help. You're dealing with someone who suddenly has something to lose. and you recognize that shift instantly long before you reach for your radio. A lot of people think arrest starts with handcuffs, but it doesn't. It starts when someone stops cooperating and starts believing the law only matters when it benefits them. And what's sad is cops spend so much time wrestling with regular everyday people who lose it in the moment. Those are the people who turn a simple report into a fight. And those are the moments that remind you how thin the line really
