How much you have to drink? I had a shot of whiskey. >> That's it. >> And a beer. >> I'll go play with you. >> I'm not playing any >> Go ahead. Send me to jail. Send me to jail. >> Wednesday, October 4th, 2023. Pickaway County, Ohio. Police receive a call from a concerned driver reporting a near collision with a vehicle that was inexplicably parked in one of the lanes on State Route 752 and Hoover Road. A patrol unit was immediately dispatched to check out the situation and prevent what could have easily turned into a tragedy. What the responding officer didn't expect was just how strange things were about to get. I'm Tyler and this is your daily dose of crime. >> Just went over to Pickerington. You ever been over there? >> Yeah. So, I went and saw my mom and uh we had like an Easter dinner. It was nice. >> And then after that, >> I decided to go home, >> so I was on the way home. >> Do you know what time it is? And >> well, I'm not certain what time it is now, but >> What time do you think your mom will be? >> Uh, probably around like 2 >> 2 in the morning. >> Yeah. caught it up right there. >> Yeah, >> we had a good time. We ate like Easter ham. >> We had like uh >> Oh, what are those called? Asparagus. You ever had asparagus? >> What' you do in between your mom's and here? >> I didn't c >> Now it's 6:30, >> so there's like a 4hour window gap. Yeah, I took a little nap at the at the house and then I was like, "All right, I'm going head home because everybody's asleep." So, yeah. >> How much you have to drink? >> I had a shot of whiskey. >> That's it. >> And a beer. But I'm I'm not trying to like incriminate myself, but >> I'm just asking right now. >> Yeah, it's it's not that crazy. But all this blood >> heads like to bleed. >> The driver was in the back of an ambulance being looked over by paramedics answering an officer's questions with scattered inconsistent responses. The man was clearly under the influence of alcohol with a serious gash above his eyebrow and blood covering his face and hands. That injury had occurred just moments after the first officer arrived on scene. And the question was what exactly had happened. I I don't want to go to the hospital tonight. I don't >> What's your name, man? >> What's your name? >> You'd like to know, wouldn't you? >> Well, if you don't tell me, you got to go to the hospital. >> My name is Mason. >> Okay. >> And I can take a nap in that truck and I'll be fine. >> Mason, what's your last name? >> Can we please just forget about this? >> Mason, what's your last name? >> Rosson. Why >> can you spell that for us? >> It looks like you're about to write something down, man. >> Well, yeah, cuz we need you to spell your name. >> All right, WSO went >> WS. >> That's all right. We'll get it from them. What's your birthday, Mason? >> Why are you pressing me? >> Do you want to go to the hospital or not? >> 15. >> No, I don't want to go. >> Answer the question. >> I don't want to go to the hospital. >> Answer the question. >> Can I smoke a cigarette? >> Not here. There's oxygen in here. >> Well, not in here. All right, I'm talking. I can't get out until you answer the question. What's your birthday? >> 21y old male. >> There you got it. I already got my >> B and DL. Please, you got DRB. It's for the addict. >> I like your tag, man. >> Thanks. >> So, you told me I'm going to jail. >> I ain't tell you you're going to jail. I'm a firefighter, buddy. I don't make that. >> See what he's doing real quick. >> Somebody said I was going to jail. The driver identified as Mason Rawson admitted to drinking that night, but didn't seem to be fully honest with law enforcement. He gave vague answers and refused to be taken to the hospital despite visible injury. It was clear he wasn't in the right state of mind to think straight, let alone explain why he had decided to park in the middle of a state highway at 6:00 in the morning. >> So, rundown I got from Freddy is he was sitting at the soccer fields. Someone came and flagged him down saying they're start here. So Freddy comes over here and checks it out. Thinks it's an 82. But when he gets up, dude comes stumbling out of the truck in the back of the metal. And so Freddy goes to talk to him and the dude starts to walk off. So Freddy goes hands on hands onto it the container and starts pulling away and then starts resisting and Freddy takes him to the ground and then bunks his head off the black top and >> you good. >> You are never wearing gloves when you go heads on with anybody and you get blood on you every time. >> I know. >> Oh yeah, I'm good. You didn't you didn't cut yourself open, did you? >> Nope. >> Good. That's his blood. Yep. >> So, >> start wearing gloves, Freddy. >> Yeah, I know. >> I didn't know I was going to have to go hands on with him. >> I thought, honestly, I thought the vehicle was >> I don't I don't I don't work gloves all the time either. >> I don't either. >> So, he's obviously severely intoxicated. >> Yeah. >> Was he inside the vehicle when you got here? Y >> I'm the I I opened up the door of the medic and it just >> So this lady pulls up to me at the soccer sock fields down in Nashville and she says, "Hey, there's a vehicle in the middle of the road. Um right there by the bridge." And so I come down here and I find him. I turn around, get behind him, you know, turn on my lights, whatever. and he gets out of the out of the truck and he's like stumbling >> in the middle of the roadway. >> The middle of the roadway and then he comes to like towards the back of this this truck and he's like can't can't stay standing up. He's like, you know, doing one of these. >> Yeah. >> So then, you know, I go to detain him and he's like tenses up and like starts to pull away. So then I like push him towards the front of my cruiser and pretty much like trying to you know restrain him, >> right? >> And he starts he starts fighting me. So at that point I just took him to the ground and when when I took him to the ground he he hit his head on the flight there also doing business. So >> So now he he he started uh he says he doesn't want to go to the hospital. I said all right well you can just go with us then. And he's like, "Well, why do I got to go with you if I don't jail?" >> Yeah. >> He said, "Why am I going to jail?" I said, "Well, it looks pretty apparent to me why you are going to go to jail." >> And so, >> you going to do the point 19 and and of course resisting. >> Yeah. >> The responding officer gave a statement explaining how Rosson ended up injured. Apparently, when the officer arrived on the scene, Rosson was completely intoxicated. As he stepped out of his vehicle, he began stumbling in the middle of the road. The officer tried to step in and move him to a safer area. And for Rosson's own safety, the officer attempted to restrain him and guide him toward the cruiser. But Rosson resisted, putting up a struggle and ended up falling to the ground, cutting his eyebrow in the process. The situation became clear. A heavily intoxicated individual had stopped in the middle of the road and resisted arrest as soon as the officer attempted to detain him and place him in the squad car. So, the question now became, how would police move forward? >> He's got missing 4hour window gap. He left his parents at 2 a.m. from Pickerington till now. He's admitted to having a shot of whiskey and one beer. >> Well, that smells like more than one. >> That's why I asked what bottle was it? >> Yeah, I was say the bottle. >> And he said all he wants to do is sleep. >> He doesn't want to go. So, I >> mean, he's going to go to the hospital either way. So, >> right. >> Well, well, >> the jail will probably refuse. >> The jail's going to refuse him cuz he hit his head off the black top. >> I mean, you can take him and see if they'll clear >> because he like I said, he wasn't he wasn't involved in motor vehicle accident. >> No, but they're going to say because he has injuries to his freaking head. >> What's What is it just a cut? They the legs said he needs stitches. >> Then they're saying he's going to have to go to the hospital. >> Let me see if we can get somebody from the jail to get over there. Get over to the hospital. >> See if I can get someone from the jail to go over there and one of >> And then uh one of us will take him. That way you can go and do your get your paperwork done. >> Make sure you fill out a use of force report as well. >> Yeah, I know. I'll sit here with the uh car waiting on a tow truck. I haven't requested someone yet. So, >> yep. Don't even that. Don't even mess with it. I don't care if it's dad's car or not. You're going to resist. It's going to get impounded. >> So, you wanted to just have the 31 take it or you want to have >> Yeah. I mean, there's not going to be a hold on it, but >> it's just just to get it off the road. >> Get it off the road. Yep. >> What do you want me to do? >> Let's uh see if we can get the jail see if we can get someone from the jail to go over and sit with them till it gets cleared. Stitch get some stitches. >> Do you want >> daily to take them for the time being until we can get someone over there so that you can go start on all this paperwork? >> Yep. >> All right. I'll sit here with the tow truck waiting on the tow truck. Get that started. >> Dude, why you in a minute? Sit up. >> Can I have a cigarette? >> Can I please have a cigarette, please? Dr. I'm not going to play with you. You understand? >> Take me to jail. Whatever. I didn't do anything wrong. >> Give your other hand. >> There you go, boss. Can I please have your cigarette >> now? Stand up. Stand up. >> I'll drag your ass out of here if that's what you want. Stand up. N >> stand up. >> After assessing the situation, officers decided to place Rosson under arrest on appropriate charges and transport him to jail. What they didn't expect was for him to resist again, where this time he became aggressive and defiant towards officers and ignored their commands. It was obvious that Mason wasn't interested in cooperating, and his behavior was only making things worse for himself. We're not Hey, we're not going to play this game. >> I'm not playing any game. >> Go ahead. >> Send me to jail. Send me to jail. >> Oh, you are. You're going to jail. >> Let's go. >> Yeah. Yo, pat me down. You want to touch my wee wee, too? >> Douchebag. Only pull close to 643 on this side of the street. left coming your to your left, Steve. >> What? >> Take him. >> I would say with his current attitude, I'd say take him straight to jail. They can take him later. >> Yep. >> Okay. >> Take him to the jail cuz he's com combative. >> Let him know that. Uh >> I'll mark the jail. >> Yeah. >> Can I at least get my shoe on? >> You won't need it inside the jail. you dude. >> California legal, >> bro. What the Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. >> You up. >> I remember you. >> What are you going to put me on the electric chair? >> Can I get my shoe? >> Yeah, we'll take it. Bro, just put it in my damn foot, please. >> Mason Rosson, age 21, was taken to Pickaway County Jail where he faced additional charges after allegedly threatening one of the officers, saying that he'd remember his name and face and would shoot him in the face once he got out. Rosson faces charges of OVI, resisting arrest, and aggravated menacing. Depending on the severity of the case and his criminal record, he could be looking at prison time or probation.
