it was a solemn day in Marian County as hundreds gathered to honor the life of a hero K9 Leo because of his selfless sacrifice we have deputies that are still alive today Kine units from across the state came together to pay their respects more than animals they're more than animals does they're not just dogs Leo's Handler Corporal Justin tortor shared that on February 17th K9 Leo bravely stepped into Harm's Way while deputies responded to a disturbance call following Corporal tortora's commands Leo ran toward the suspect the suspect fired a gun and tragically a bullet struck Leo in an area not protected by his bulletproof vest even after being shot K9 Leo continued to fight courageously helping to arrest the suspect it was amazing to watch it was the bravest thing I've ever seen him alive after 3 days of valiantly fighting for his life at the UF vet hospital Leo crossed the Rainbow Bridge with honor and sacrifice receiving a 21 gun salute in his memory
