I GET IT THAT SIDE OF IT. I'LL TAKE THIS. Woah take them badges off cuz. Get off. Records reveal that the same individuals had been involved in other disorderly incidents at public businesses. The first male juvenile was arrested for felony obstruction and disorderly conduct. The second male juvenile was arrested for battery on a law enforcement officer and felony obstruction. The female juvenile was arrested for obstruction. Hey everyone it's Trent, prior deputy sheriff patrol sergeant and canine handler. And this call is pretty straightforward, right? You have some employees at a local Kroger grocery store that contact local law enforcement there in Savannah and say, "Hey, we have four or five rowdy, rambunctious kids that we've asked to leave. They're not doing so. They're creating a disturbance. They're breaking merchandise. Can you please come and help?" So two officers arrive on scene. The female officer arrives first, secondary the male officer who I believe is a patrol sergeant, meaning her supervisor. So right away at the very start of this thing I can already tell we have a clear case of failure to parent your children. And I believe three of these kids are related if I heard that correctly. That being said, they are clearly creating issues here, right? They're refusing to leave. They're not doing anything productive. They're yelling. They're screaming. Later they're resisting officers. There's a whole host of issues here up front right with these kids. Also, according to this officer's report there have been prior contacts with these same individuals that were creating in similar circumstances refusing to leave stores. As you heard this one officer state that they had been kicked out of the mall earlier. So these things also get taken into consideration in law enforcement when you're going to a call prior contacts with that individual on scene. Are they flagged for being mentally unstable 5150? Do you have prior knowledge that they are on probation or parole? Do you have prior knowledge that they fight law enforcement etc, right? So you're going to think about those things while going to these calls. And they're going to come into play. Also, I want to state in law enforcement you're supposed to use the lowest level of restriction possible when dealing with juveniles. And what I mean by that is start by for this situation asking them to leave, contacting parents, then it goes up from there issuing a citation for you know, trespassing or refusing to leave, resisting, whatever. Worst case scenario you're going to be arresting kids and transporting them to juvenile hall. And there are reasons for that criminal theory and statistics that basically dictate that once you start arresting kids, introducing them into the criminal justice system at a very young age, booking them into jail, they have a higher likelihood of continuing down that criminal path later on into adulthood, right? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. However, in law enforcement we were always instructed to abide by those rules and that's basically how we went into every call with juveniles, but every situation is always different. Sometimes we'd show up, immediately place the juvenile in handcuffs, they're going to juvenile hall. Sometimes we're talking things out with them, talking to the parents and that might not be the case. Oh, to Monday morning quarterback this call because I wasn't there, right? And we just have the snippets of body cam footage. They're obviously edited down for purposes of time, but I have been in a number of these types of situations. So right up front aside from these kids obviously being the main issue here, right? For everybody in the store, customers, employees and obviously these cops that are just showing up to do their job, these law enforcement officers, especially the first ones on scene did a in in my opinion could not handle this situation whatsoever. These kids were walking all over them, especially the female officer. These kids are just wandering around aimlessly. They're not listening to her directive even when her supervisor showed up, the same thing, okay? And you need to get a control on these situations as fast as humanly possible. And if you have even kids and most of which are bigger than all of these cops there, okay? So that gets taken into consideration too. Not just the age, but somebody's size definitely plays a factor and you can use it as articulation to utilizing more force if necessary depending on what they're doing, okay? So there's a lot of factors that get taken into consideration when placing anybody under arrest, but especially juveniles, okay? I mean that one kid was like 7'3" and 400 lb. I mean I'm kind of exaggerating, but he was huge and he was definitely larger than these first two cops on scene and he was in my opinion the one that was creating the vast majority of the issues, but they all were. So then you hear that male officer, the sergeant going hands-on with these kids saying, "I'm going to you know, put handcuffs on you." Then he he tries to grab one of them, the kid walks away. So all that is going on way too long, okay? In my opinion you're going to do one of two things. You're going to just kind of stand back if you're there's only one or two of you in the store and you're seeing all these kids that outnumber you and some of them are pretty big and you're going to wait for additional units to arrive and then you're going to deal with the situation. You're just going to monitor, make sure everybody stays safe. Or if you're going to decide in this case that these kids aren't listening to you and you decide to go hands-on, then you need to fully commit to that. And place each and every one of them in handcuffs. That means handcuff the one, take him out in your patrol car, go back in while your partner's still in there and continue that process while you're waiting for other units to arrive. You have to choose one or the other because you can't just let these kids run around and do whatever they want. You heard at the very end that giant huge I'm going to call him a kid, but he was bigger than everybody there, walking back into the store to get his cell phone and that officer is clearly standing behind him stating, "I'm I I should be placing you in handcuffs and arresting you for assaulting my partner." Okay, so he just admitted to the fact that that this kid assaulted a peace officer. But he's continuing to let him wander around, cuss and yell to search for his cell phone. No, you're getting placed in handcuffs and you're getting put in the back of the car and I will maybe go in and try to locate your phone after the fact, okay? Because they didn't play nice up front. They refused to leave. They were given multiple opportunities to leave that store and to listen. And the fact that all these kids just get to walk around after violating trespass laws, disorderly conduct and resisting officers, they should all be all be placed in handcuffs and transported to the juvenile hall in my opinion instead of letting them roam around because it also when you do something like that, you open it up for additional liability and additional people, not just cops, but these kids and maybe even bystanders in the store to get injured or for further things to go wrong. So, it is always critical to try to deal with the situation as fast as humanly possible if you think that there is going to be potential for any of those things to occur. But, it sounds like at the very end of the day, the three main instigators were eventually obviously taken to juvenile hall, rightfully so. Again, in my opinion, they all should have gone, but then again, I was not there and I didn't see or hear or deal with the situation. Just my opinion only. That being said, that is going to be it for this video and I'll see you guys in the next one.
