We're pretty much on firstname terms with a lot of people in this area. Um, so yeah, it it can only benefit us. Bear with me. Sorry, Liban's running. So, I'll be back in a second. >> I'm Abdi. >> I'm Liban. And you're watching On the Beat Lambeath edition. [Music] I'm PC Hussein. We are currently in Lambeath HQ. We're going to go out for patrol. But before that, we're going to go to the briefing room to find out what we're going to be up to today. Right. Today we're obviously going to head out as a team. What we're going to do is target some of the local neighborhood issues that have been raised by the local ward priority um panel. As you're aware, theft is their number one priority across the area. As we know, it's been a significant issue for a number of years now. Um, we get the shoplifterss, the retail crime. We also get the the bag thefts that occur in the local hotels and licensed premises. Um, and then some sporadic pickpocketing in the area. So, what we need to be out trying to visible presence there um to ensure that those that are engaging such behavior aware of our presence. Also, we're going to try and catch them. Um, we can do some inquiries whilst out there linking with local businesses. um use those contacts that we've got in the community um to lead us to the guys and girls that are committing these offenses. >> The Met Engaged been quite interesting experience because a lot of the residents there are two key factors obviously the phone snatching issues but uh the big thing is the dangerous riding on bikes and ebikes and delivery. They're just people are literally getting hit crossing roads and especially the elderly. Um they're >> but let's get out there. Let's have a good day. Let's get some results in, shall we? Let's go. [Music] >> Yeah. So, this is a art bishop artificial park. Uh normally we go through here when we're going to our ward this part of our ward as well but we just go through here to go to lamp um lower marsh and wateroo and the south bank which is the main areas that we do our patrols on. >> So yeah on neighborhoods what we tend to do is we trying to build relations with the community and by uh going there like on a regular basis linking in with them. So the thing I personally enjoy about being neighborhood police officer is that we get to go on foot patrol all the time. And the thing is like this is the park we just went through art park. Next to it is the hospital. This is the kids hospital as you can see. And there's a lot of kids that obviously go through the hospital and they're not feeling too great. They not felt. So when they see us and they want to try on the head, they want to take a picture with us, we always oblige cuz that makes me feel good cuz I've got kids myself. And if that is going to make the kids day great and better, then yeah, by all means, we'll do that all the time. >> So, our routine is when we come through the tunnel, the first store we check in is co-op. So, we speak to the staff, see if they had any shoplifterss. If they have, they show us images, and then we'll see if we can find them during our shift. We've been informed by the member of staff that they had a shoplifter who also had assaulted them, and they called the police, and they've got a CAD number. So, what we're going to start doing now is going to have a look at the CCTV, see if we can identify him during our patrols and hopefully we can come across them and then he can be arrested for the offenses for theft and also assault against uh the staff member. Just spoken to the staff members and they've shown us the CCTV image of the suspect. We've taken a picture of him on our job phones which going to make it easier for us to identify him later during our patrols. Um, we've been working a lot with this store in the past and I don't know if you guys seen the footage of Mr. wasn't coming out the back room and arrested someone on the spot. So, this is the store that we've been working for a long time now. We have a good working relationship with the staff. Um, so they trust us to actually solve their problems which we normally tend to do. So, these are the South Bank security team. Um, they are part of the wider partnership that we have in the South Bank. Um, Umar is the security manager. These officers are his security uh officers. They pretty much like police officers, right? They always there when we need them. They give us intel that we need. And it's like without them, we probably wouldn't be able to solve a lot of the issues that we have cuz they see the intel, they hear things, and then they feed that back to us and then we start investigating those issues. >> My colleagues Liban and Abdi, they stopped a male that was on a illegal motorcycle. Um >> as you know, we've got a lot of these going around London at the moment. Soon as I asked for that immigration status to be checked, he immediately ran. >> My colleagues have managed to go after him on foot. I've managed to go after him on the bike. And about 200 m down the road there, we've managed to catch him. >> The phone now. >> Get down. 438. >> We have so many occasions where foot chases um where we're able to go a lot quicker than that those that are running away that we can just get through the crowds quite easily on the bike. Um and yeah, show advance we got the rest out of that one. I mean that was probably if that was a foot chase that would have probably been a good two 200 m. Um, I think anyone can appreciate a full sprint at 200 meters is going to be difficult no matter how fit um, healthy you are, especially we're carrying all this kit which is obviously a huge amount of additional weight. So, the bikes just enable us to get there a lot. They're brilliant. >> Um, we've done some checks with immigration. It does turn out that he's an overstayer. Um, he's overstayed his visa by six years. Um, so he's now been arrested and be handed over to immigration to be dealt with. Um, right. Let's rock and roll. >> How are you? You good? >> Good. Good. >> Cut through here. We are part of the community. Um, you know, we are central part of the community. I think we should be anyway. So, if we can build that good working relationship with the community, it benefits both of us, makes them feel a little bit safer. Um, but it also helps us ensure that their area is safer. The amount of information that we get from the local community, whether that's, you know, the the guys and girls work on the market stalls, those work in local shops, the local security officers in the area, they they pretty much all have our phone numbers. They will give us a call if something's going on, something's not quite right. So, we're able to respond quickly to that. And I think we've built that confidence there that they're willing to do that now. Um, we we're pretty much on firstname terms with a lot of people in this area. Um, so yeah, it it can only benefit us. Bear with me. Sorry, Lead's running. So, I'll be back in a second. >> We're we're a very sort of community-minded team. Um, hopefully through the footage today, you've seen that we have great relationships with our local community. We are open to speak to anyone. We are approachable. It's very much the approach we take to poling. So if you're in the local area of Waterland and South Bank or anywhere else across Lambbeath, please just come over and have a chat with us. Let us know what your issues are. Um because if we don't know about them issues and the specifics of them, we can't target them. So please just come over and let us know what we need to be dealing with.
