Today is the first of three days of an operation called operation skyord. Uh this brings together um specialist units from the interceptors, the Suron riders, the marine unit, the drone pilots and officers local to the west end to target two world enabled crime. It's where individuals are stood at bus stops walking along Oxford Street where um people on mopeds, motorbike, two wheel enabled vehicles will come up beside them, will snatch their phone or rob them of their phone and ride off. And this is a really significant problem for us here in the West End. This is an operation that we want to continue to run as we go throughout the year. So it's part of a a new approach to how we tackle that, how we target using all of our special resources, reducing the crime and making the people in the West Endfield safer. The drone will give us another view, another um angle for which we can monitor them and track them through London. What we see with our specially trained sur riders is they have the um the bikes that can now move through London in a safe way and actually follow and keep up with some of these individuals. Ultimately, we know that these phones are stolen and then they're bolt together by a handler and then they'll moved abroad into other countries, shipped abroad where they'll be sold. What we need to do is to target all the levels of that criminality. That's something we do here as a BCU, but we work closely with our colleagues from specialist crime specialist units um and in international partners to try and um help stop making those phones so easy to steal and to move abroad.
