C340 Ry C340. Go ahead. Yeah. RPD and fire MS 1018 to uh Capital and Wake Forest Road reference at 1050 PI. 340. On October 7th, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m. In Raleigh, North Carolina, on Capitol Boulevard near Westp Street, Sergeant Macario of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol initiated a brief high-speed pursuit of 31-year-old Tyrone Mason, who was allegedly speeding at 70 mph in a 40 mph zone. Moments later, Macario ended the chase and turned off his sirens, losing sight of Mason, who soon after lost control and fatally crashed into a median. Body cam footage reveals that Macario contacted his supervisor, Sergeant Matthew Morrison, who advised him not to disclose to Raleigh police that a pursuit had taken place. Macario followed the instruction and made no visible attempt to check on Mason in the wrecked vehicle. Watch the full video to see exactly how this incident unfolded and what happened to the troopers involved in the cover up of a fatal crash they were part of. over. Over. C340 R C340. Go ahead. Yeah. He took off and uh I just went ahead and disengaged just to his driving behaviors. um coming outbound and uh when I came around the corner I had already turned my [ __ ] off he wrecked and I didn't have Frank. Please tell me you're [ __ ] joking. No, I mean I had law I had all my [ __ ] was off. Came around the corner here at Atlantic Avenue. He ran into a media here. Did you call 1043 or anything? No, sir. The second I realized that it was not a smart chase, I literally turned all my stuff off. He had I had lost sight and I came around the corner. I saw all the smoke. Sounds to me like this RPD's problem. All right. I already They're on the way. Um I mean, you're the first one out with it. Yeah. I mean, I not being like weird about it. I just did not feel it was safe chase. Okay. Is your camera still rolling? Uh yeah, on a different recording though because I had already disengaged. Okay. Yeah. I mean you turn around on him. You never I mean you lit him up. You immediately stopped as soon as you lost sight of then you drove up on him RP. Yeah. I mean I had turned my sub off. I continued to roll and then as I came I was probably going 50 mph and I was like holy crap. It was that same car. So all right well that works. I wouldn't I wouldn't mention anything to them about you trying to stop him. No, I won't. Just say, "Hey, man. I drove up on this." Yeah. I'm leaving that. All right. Yeah. No, it was very short. Y chasing us. Dang. Yeah. Was there EMS or anybody out there? Uh, they're on the way. Uh, you confirmed he's Yeah. Yeah. I mean, yeah. No, it's not. Okay. Yeah. RP [ __ ] to me. All right, sir. I appreciate it. I just feel like I drove up. All right. All right. Anything else? All right. Bye. District Attorney Lauren Freeman stated that there were no legal grounds to criminally charge the troopers involved aside from their dishonesty, which he described as inexcusable. According to Freeman, Sergeant Macario's intent was not to obstruct justice, but rather to keep them from having to manage the crash scene and conduct the crash reconstruction investigation. Henrietta Mason is heartbroken once again. Attorneys representing the Mason family said in a statement, "Not only has she had to bury her son, but she has also been repeatedly failed by the North Carolina State Troopers, the Raleigh police, and now Wake County District Attorney Lauren Freeman, all of whom seem more interested in protecting a couple of liars than delivering justice for Tyrone Mason. The Mason family has filed a federal lawsuit seeking charges against the troopers involved. The lawsuit accuses the troopers of attempting to cover up Mason's death and failing to render aid in a timely manner. Why aren't the troopers involved in this incident being charged or at the very least fired for lying? If they can cover up their role in a high-speed chase that resulted in someone's death, what else are they capable of hiding? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
