On a quiet February morning in Albuquerque, New Mexico, deputies with the Bernalo County Sheriff's Office responded to a call they never imagined. Reports of two children, just seven and nine, holding a real firearm. What they found was more terrifying than they could have ever expected. Body cam footage captures the chilling moments as officers arrive on scene and spot the boys hiding behind an air conditioning unit, passing the gun back and forth like a toy. They didn't know if the safety was on. They didn't know if a round was chambered, and they had no clue that one wrong move could end their lives or someone else's in an instant. Deputies tried everything to calm the situation, but things only got worse. This video dives into every detail of this unbelievable case, from the dramatic standoff to the disturbing truth uncovered afterward. Stay with us. You need to see how this ends. On February 16th, 2025 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bernalo County Sheriff's deputies faced a shocking call. Two boys just seven and 9 years old were seen holding a loaded gun. As deputies arrived, body cam footage captured them urgently pleading with the kids to drop the weapon, assuring them they weren't in trouble. "This isn't a game," one says. Another deputy shouts, "We're trying to help you." While attempting to deescalate, deputies fired a non-lethal round. But in a split second, one of the boys raises the gun and points it directly at them. What happens next is jaw-dropping. Where were their parents? How did these kids get a loaded gun? Stay tuned until the end for the answers. Now, let's watch the video. [Applause] Officers arrive and methodically advance along the north side of the house. Each step deliberate as they try to locate the two young boys engage the unfolding emergency. With the children concealed behind an air conditioning unit and visibility limited, deputies deploy a drone to get a clearer view and gain a better understanding of exactly what they're dealing with. 394 has eyes with the drone. It is going to be cover. Just go ahead and drop that. Put it down, babe. Go ahead and put it down for me. Okay, you're not in trouble, but you have to drop that and come talk to us. All right. See if there's a magazine inside the magazine. Well, put it down, baby. They're playing with the gun back and forth. The one in the blue is trying to take it from the one in the orange. Put it down, baby. Just drop it, buddy. Put it down, babe. You're okay. The two boys carelessly pass the loaded gun back and forth. Completely unaware of the danger in their hands. They don't know if it's chambered, if the safety is on or off, or the golden rule of gun safety. Never put your finger on the trigger unless you intend to fire. At any moment, the weapon could discharge, potentially injuring or killing one of them. Has one someone else come back down and come and talk to me. It's okay. You're not in trouble, buddy. Just put it down, babe. We'll show you how. I know. Can you put it down for me? Just put it down. You're not going to be in trouble. Okay. Just put on the ground, bud. Come talk to us. You're not in trouble. 394. Can you put it on the ground for me, bud? Going to be in his left hand. He does have his finger on the river right now. Hey, put it down, buddy. around the corner for a minute. Put it down, baby. Coming up to you guys. Okay, Eugene, put it down, babe. 3 4 on that side. If so, I go 40. [ __ ] I don't want to do that. Just wait. Let's try to keep talking with them. Watch this coming up. I know. Eugene, put it down, babe. Okay, can you put it down for me so we can talk? Officers discuss using a 40mm launcher that fires less lethal foam rounds designed to subdue threats from a distance without causing serious injury. The goal, knock the gun from the boy's hands to move in safely and secure the weapon. I would go ahead and 40 him, try to knock it out of his arms, and then we can move up. Hold on. What I want you to do is I want you to hit beside them. Hit the wall. I want you to hit the wall. Hey, put that just keep it down. I want you to hit the wall. Hit the wall. Hey, you got to do what he says. I want you to hit this fence right here. Sean, can you put it down? Hold on a second. Give it a second. Kiddos, just drop that and come talk to us. You're not in trouble. Yeah, that's them for he's trying to calm them down. They're refusing to put the gun down. If you can ricochet on the bottom of that wall into their feet cannon, if he puts the cannon down, will you put it down? Okay, try not to hit them down and we'll throw you the cannon. He's not going to shoot you, babe. Put it down. Okay, he's going to put it down now. He's throw He's facing it down. Now you put the gun down. Okay. Come on, Sean. Let's Let's listen. Okay, babe. We don't want to hurt you, honey. Can you put it on the floor? It's still going to be right by you, but if you put it down on the floor, then he could keep his cannon down. But put it on the floor. Ready? Just wait. Stand by. Sooner you put that down, the sooner we could take you home. Let me go see your mom. Sean, this isn't a game no more. We're not playing a game right now. This is serious. I need you to put that down. We want to help you, Sean. You tell me what you need after you put it down, and I'll make sure that we get you some whatever you need. Okay, we're just going to wait for a second. Can you do that for me? As the boys grow increasingly restless, officers prepare to fire the 40mm non-lethal launcher, aiming near them to avoid direct contact with the boys. Officers are desperate to deescalate and gain control of the weapon before it's too late. When the round is fired, the reaction from the boys is immediate and terrifying, leaving everyone on scene stunned at how the one young boy reacts. I just don't want to [ __ ] put it down, Sean. I really don't want a [ __ ] 48 kid right now. You and we want to help you. Okay. Put it down, baby. 40 going out. 40 40. Drop it. The 40 mm non-lethal round slams into the AC unit just inches from the boy holding the gun. What happens next stuns everyone. The child raises the weapon with both hands, poised to fire. For a split second, time seems to freeze. No one expected this. And in that moment, every officer is thinking the same thing. We do not want to shoot this kid. Drop it, son. Taser. Taser. Load another one. Drop it now. You're going to get hit. Drop the gun. Drop it. She dropped the gun. Taser. Taser. your hands up. [Applause] Drop it now. Drop the bunny. I don't even have the gun. I don't have the gun. Fortunately, the boy lowered the weapon and both children tried to hide behind the AC unit, giving officers the break they needed to safely move in and disarm them. Thankfully, no one was harmed. Later, deputies discovered they had responded to this residence over 180 times. According to court documents, Gabriel Roy Ball is a convicted felon who lives at the home with a lengthy criminal record, had allegedly pointed a gun at the two boys and was overheard by a neighbor threatening to kill them. Royal is not the father of the boys, but is reportedly the father of another child at the home. In February, the boys told police Royal had threatened them with a silver and black handgun matching the one seen in drone footage. Their mother filed for an emergency order of protection and Roy Ball fled the scene. When police later caught up with him, he had no weapon, but knows he's not legally allowed to possess one. He was arrested and charged. Weeks later, a grand jury indicted Roy Ball on multiple charges, including making a firearm accessible to a minor, also known as Benny's Law.
