foreign every every event is really really important um and actually people see the end of the delivery they see us you know policing around the stadium and in the stadium and working we're Partners but the huge amount of work is done in the planning phase [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] yeah absolutely sorry what was the location my name is Carlton Finley and I am the commander for the major events portfolio for London which takes care of everything to do with protest ceremonial events big music events or big sporting occasions and at the moment I've got the privilege of being the gold Commander for the women's European championships it's really important um before we even go into an event there's really clearly defined roles and responsibilities who is responsible for what who who will we go to should that situation or circumstances emerge um and we spend a lot of time making sure that that is clear we test that we we go through a series of scenarios and exercising so that when we come to the actual event time we have tried and tested processes there's always the unexpected but you know there's contingency plans put in place for that there are major incident response plans put in place for that um and you know we we learn all the time from other things not just happening that without I mean I should say within London but actually happen at other forces up and down the United Kingdom so the whole of that process um partners are with us at every point of the journey to make sure that come the day and come the hour we all know what we're clearly doing [Music] so far [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] I'm a detective Constable with the Metropolitan Police and I'm also the national amateur boxing champion 2022 of under 52 kilograms women's [Music] foreign there are some direct parallels that you could draw there are also kind of skills that you develop as an athlete that helps you in life which then naturally helps you in your job when you're boxing your under an enormous amount of pressure and keeping that cool head and focus in the face of aggression and the adrenaline rush and and all of that in the faces that you have to maintain perfect control of your body perfect control of your mind perfect focus and getting the job done and I think that is something that probably a direct parallel that I could draw when you're in the ring and when you're possibly on the job or being a boxer I'll be able to maintain that level of control maintain that level of mental calm when I'm faced with those kinds of hot situations and another parallel would be uh this is an interesting one actually it's uh it's not to judge a book by its cover which is um something that I've really learned in boxing and something that's really true in life as well and especially on the job sometimes boxers who don't look like boxers are the most lethal and the most dangerous that's something that we can take away in life as well where especially on the job where you shouldn't judge a book by its cover and I think that's quite a quite an interesting parallel [Music] my name is Pauline bonus I work for met detention and as a designated detention officer at lotion custody suite and prior to my life in the met I used to be women to go to football development officer at Charlton athletic and combining that I used to playing gold for England um I'd say my football did mirror working for the Met discipline is massive how to contact yourself correctly and because you're in a public eye whether you're playing football or working for the Met you're in the public eye cameras at the front when I was working in Scotland Yard cameras when I was playing for football so discipline was massive team environment you know I worked with a massive team of security officers I work with a big team in met debt so teamwork is massive you'll need to be singing from the same hymn sheet it's it's great when you're a passion in terms of your um profession on profession and your passion in terms of the sport that you love come together let's obviously a match made in heaven but um it's it's a privilege to be um the gold Commander for the women's European championships because you you care about it being a female you know a female that's been involved in really high level women's sport previously it is fantastic to see huge big events at capacity sold out events we're working towards Wembley Final on the 31st of July which is sold out um and England are doing really really well in the tournament we is probably a bit anomaly for a Scotsman to see but I'm you know I'm really hoping that they get to that final and they win [Music] [Music] [Music] we're far a far greater distance you know we will be in our event control room at Special Operations room at Lambeth for example and we will be looking to see what we can see in terms of crowd movement crowd Dynamic is is the actual entry into the stadium going according to plan um is are our partners where they should be and being really mindful our job because ultimately the police's rule is to make sure that we're doing everything we can to prevent and to take crime should it happen we want to make sure we are working in terms of our awareness and our vigilance to make sure that we're really switched on to making sure if there's anything that we don't think looks right or it looks suspicious that we are really immediately responsive and switched on to that and the other bit for ourselves is just making sure that we are proactively dealing with any situation when it immediately starts so as to stop at escalating so that there's we never should get into Realms of disorder for example but I think one of the biggest things on the day when these events come along is is the quality of how we speak to the people what we see to arrive in Vans Spectators they might never have visited this country before they might never have been at some of our venues so we want to be part of that this is a sporting experience and so that the security and the policing operation and everything that's going on in the background never comes to the notice of the people who are there just genuinely to have a good day out with their families and watch hopefully England winning foreign [Music] y I'm actually working for Metropolitan Police just Community engagement enjoying the atmosphere you know making sure everyone's safe while they're at the event so my role here today is obviously to engage with all the fans make sure everyone's safe you know take photographs if necessary and just enjoy the atmosphere make sure and everyone's have a good time oh it's fantastic for the sport it's a great day you can see all the energy everyone's buzzing the atmosphere is phenomenal um I think everybody's been looking forward to it even though the way in the tubes were packed like it's a good yeah it's really important really good for the game I feel really safe when I go to events like this I think the police are very on it you can see them got it everywhere there to help uh very polite ushering people in the right directions yeah really helpful really good [Music] so my name is Julie Wade I'm the police constable in the mounted Branch based at Bow stables and today I'm on Sandown one of the advantages of having the horses is this unique vantage point where we can see over the crowds watch the crowd Dynamic and make sure that the crowd is safe but also having the horses are really good for Community engagement and the crowd will come up and speak to us because they want to they'll be drawn to the horses initially and they'll speak to police officers and the good thing about that is if they've got any concerns about anything that's going on we can obviously use the radio and we get that info quite quickly and it goes bronze arrived got the touchdown Kelly's in there [Applause] [Music] [Applause] on a football field they are the European Champions it was it really was the most amazing feeling other than playing for England seeing that was the second best feeling ever when I when I turned up at Wembley and come out of Wembley Park and saw the thousands of fat fans as well as the police there I knew this was big I knew we had hit the big time on a new weird we've finally made it to have police officers police a women's match to me was the icing on the cake and the atmosphere was fantastic there was no trouble and my seat where I was sitting we had Irish fans in there Swedish fans French fans we had fans from all over the world in the same enclosure the generation before me helped build the blocks for what I achieved and I'd like to think that I was the building blocks of what they achieved this summer it was a very emotional to think that I had a small part in them winning the euros and to be honest it was a long time coming and every player past and present was over the moon foreign and sometimes that sounds like sometimes it sounds a little bit cheesy but really I genuinely genuinely wanted to do something that was really motivating for myself and secondly that I felt like I could help help people um and I think policing no matter what you're involved with policing you're always trying to genuinely make life better for people and trying to respond to people often sometimes at a real point of criticality or you know Darkest Hours you know when they're dialing 999 but I wanted that real opportunity to make a difference I wanted to come in every day and for the job to be different and there is no doubt no day is the same um and thirdly to work with really good people and be part of a huge big team because I'd always ever done things in life and really enjoyed it brought the best out of me when I was working as a team you're not Reliant solely on yourself to get things across the line and you've got to be able to work with people whether it be you know your peers your your people above you you supervisors your senior officer team your external Partners it's exactly the same within rugby you're working with the analysts you're working you know with your coaching team you're working on your Fitness people it takes a huge amount of skilled people from a huge range of um partner agencies ourselves the fire brigade the ambulance service the actual people at the club the staff at the club the stewarding at the club and their security posture around the event everything there is a plethora of people that need to come together to plan and then actually be present during the event fees delivery when we're we're seeing it actually happen it's a huge privilege and an honor to be able to lead the people that I lead in the commands and for the area's responsibility I have um and the majority of people that I work with are incredibly professional they're incredibly hard working and they really want to make a difference to making life for londoners and police in London making it a safer place and a better place so being part of that is really actually special it really matters so I think this is a very important point that I need to get across about me right and this basically I have wanted to be police since I was about eight years old I remember drawing like little pictures of like what what would you like to be when you grow up and then I'll add your police officer or a detective actually with the magnifying glass and the Sherlock style hat and stuff um and another part of what I wanted to really wanted to do was um athleticism um something something relating to Fitness something where I could really physically challenge myself and the third side of things was doing something for the community or for society or that kind of you know making making a difference I guess to put it in a cliche way it's almost like I I'm really living my dream because since joining the police it's kind of been a trifecta of like those three things that I really wanted to do all kind of coming together under one umbrella of my job so it's amazing what kind of sport how how much sport can connect people locally globally across different kind of generations and backgrounds and it's just it's just amazing there's there's nothing like it
