Okay. I I I do not consent to any >> You're okay. You're okay. Um >> I have a firearm in front of my waist. >> Firearm in front of your waist. Okay, that's fine. So, here's the deal. And it's Oklahoma. If you don't carry a gun, you should carry a gun, right? >> Let's do it. Do it here, man. Go ahead. Turn around. Face the truck right here. >> Whoa, whoa, whoa. What? Communicate with me. Communicate. Communicate. Whoa. Stop. Please. Stop. Stop. Stop. On the ground. On January 23rd, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m. in Tulsa, Oklahoma, police spotted a familiar face. Michael Lee Spear, a man who led them on a wild chase weeks earlier. Recognizing him, police officers initiated a traffic stop near 51st and Union Avenue. Spear told officers he was armed and claimed to be a sovereign citizen, refusing to comply with any commands. Tensions surged as a routine stop spiraled into chaos with a scuffle, shots fired, and a pursuit into a wooded area. Watch the full police body cam footage to see every dramatic moment unfold and see how this incident comes to an end. Huh? Camera. What's the emergency? How can I assist you? >> Well, so I'm off Fox Police Department. Reason for stop is you can't have that uh duct tape in your back window. Anything that you have >> yesterday and they told us it was okay. >> Anything that you have covering a window has to be clear. >> You got any weapon? >> Yes. I I did not consent to any >> You're okay. You're okay. Um, >> I have a firearm in front of my waist. >> Firearm in front of your waist. Okay, that's fine. So, here's the deal. And it's Oklahoma. If you're legal to carry a gun, you should carry a gun, right? >> Everybody should. >> And I'm going to tell you the exact same thing I tell you, but he don't reach for yours, I won't reach for mine. >> No, I won't. I won't. >> Okay. All right. So, let's let's go ahead and come over here. >> Michael Lee Spear claims he's a sovereign citizen. A sovereign citizen is someone who believes they are not subject to government laws or authority, especially in regard to taxes, driver's licenses, and law enforcement. They often claim legal loopholes, reject the legitimacy of courts and police, and frequently use pseudo legal language during encounters with authorities. This belief system is not recognized by any legitimate legal system and has been associated with confrontational and sometimes dangerous behavior during traffic stops or arrests. Sovereign citizens often claim they're traveling, not driving, during traffic stops, insisting they don't need a driver's license, even while sitting behind the wheel of a moving vehicle. To them, there's a legal difference between driving and traveling, which makes for some of the most bizarre and entertaining traffic stops you'll see. If you enjoy this kind of content, make sure to subscribe. We're launching an entire playlist dedicated to the sovereign citizen movement soon. Yeah. Come on. Back here. >> All right. How's that for throwing a bumper? Hey, he is he is carrying. >> Oh, yeah. I am carrying. It's a 32 autom, brother. They're about to flip a beauty on us cuz this guy looks like a crackhead." >> And then what did you guys do? >> I don't know. >> Oh, yeah. I was about to say, like you said, high crime area. I looked like you're >> Look, man, I'm just not trying to get shot. >> Yeah, trust me. >> I love my life. Okay. >> We don't want to shoot anybody. We're just >> And I do want to repeat this. Is your camera rolling? >> Yeah. Don't consent to any of this. >> Okay. >> Let's do it. Do it here, man. Go ahead. Turn around. Face the truck right now. >> Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Communicate with me. Communicate. Communicate. >> Whoa. Bro, stop. Please stop. Stop. Stop. >> Make me pull my gun out. Place the truck. Please don't. >> You are being detained. >> I don't consent, bro. Hold on. Please don't shoot me. Please do not shoot me, bro. >> Come here. >> Step out of traffic. >> You're going to step out of traffic. >> I know you're freaking me out. >> I have anxiety, bro. I haven't done anything wrong. >> Okay. >> What law have I broken? >> Stop. >> What law have I broken? >> Stop and listen. >> What law have I broken? >> You're going to tell me, Sergeant, what law have I broken? >> Right now, you are being detained >> unlawfully. Don't do it, bro. >> Come here. Stop. >> Don't do it, man. Do you think this situation might have unfolded differently if the officers had approached Michael by saying something like, "We're investigating someone who ran from us a few weeks ago, and you match the description. We need to temporarily detain you, not arrest you, until we can sort this out," instead of immediately ordering him to turn around to place handcuffs on him. Michael did ask for communication. One of the officers was even heard calling for everyone to deescalate, clearly sensing where the encounter was headed, especially after Michael admitted he was armed. What do you think? Could a different approach have changed the outcome? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. >> Stop. I'm here. >> What did I do to you guys? >> Come here. >> A broken window. You're going to >> trying to talk to you and you're not cooperating. You lost illegally. You're not going to cooperate. Okay. So, this is what I want you to do. I want you to >> Yes, baby. >> I want you to walk towards me for a few steps >> to get out of the way of the traffic. >> I love you. >> I got the radio. >> They're going to shoot me. >> Yes, they're going to shoot me. >> We're not going to shoot you if you listen to you. >> I was listening and then you tried to bomb me like gang members. >> You ever heard of color of law? >> Okay, here's what's going to happen. >> You're freaking me the out. I've I've asked you. I've asked you. >> I know you're going to shoot me. That's the only arrest. >> Okay, bro. >> Right now, you are under arrest. >> I'm under arrest. >> Yes. >> For obstruction. You're not listening. >> Yes. >> You're being given lawful orders. You're trying to run from a traffic stop. >> I wasn't running. I was trying to back up because going to attack me. >> You ran all the way over here when I told you to put your hands behind your back. So, I'm going to ask you >> stop. I'm going to ask you one more time. Just shoot me >> to get on the ground. >> Shoot me. >> Stop. Just shoot me. >> Stop. If you walk out into traffic, I'm going to have to tase you. >> Just shoot me. >> Please don't. Spear then fled into a nearby field. In a surprising move, he ran in a large loop, effectively circling back toward his vehicle. Two officers discharged their firearms at Spear, although it remains unclear whether he was struck. As the situation escalated, Spear gained ground on the officers who were forced to seek cover, giving him the time to make it back to his truck. He then fled the scene in his vehicle. Officers initiated a pursuit, but after a lengthy chase west of Tulsa, Spear managed to evade law enforcement approximately 10 miles west of Tulsa in a heavily wooded and rural area.
