On March 30th, 2024, police were called to what should have been a sweet family get together, Grandma's 80th birthday. But instead of cake and hugs, officers walked into a human tornado of confusion, medical emergencies, and family members shouting over one another. This footage captures how a minor conflict turned into something far more serious. Step back for a second. Listen, you know me. I used to I'm the customer, bro. I I'll tell you everything that's going on. I'm very calm. >> All right. Give us a minute. All right. Give us figure out what's going on. >> All right. Give us a minute. All right. >> Okay. Look. >> All right. >> You can arrest me if you want. Listen, >> just calm down. Calm down. >> They know me. They talked to me the other day. >> I just want to explain what happened. >> What's going on? over there. >> Oh my god. [Applause] >> She's fine. We got her. >> Okay. Okay. She's fine. Risky's over here. She's breathing. >> She's my wife. I got her. >> Okay. I got her. Go there. Go there. >> Not right at the moment, but she used to be. >> So, what happened? >> Okay. [Applause] rescue. >> That's my brother. I'm trying to calm him down. >> Can I explain? >> Back up, please. >> Go. Let me talk to you. >> Okay, go ahead. >> Okay. Um, we're having my grandma's 80th birthday and we were all in there dancing, break dancing, and my uncle, okay, >> who was in his 50s, he just went outside into the hallway and he collapsed and everyone, I guess, everyone was going to the bathroom and they ran back in. They were like, "Call 911. Call 911." This is my uncle. He was trying to help him. I was trying to calm him down. He was trying to get him off of him. There was no altercation. >> Fair was trying to get in there and I'm trying to calm him down. He walked up and grabbed him by the arm. I'm trying to explain him. That's my brother. >> There's no altercation. My brother It's my mother's 80th birthday. [Applause] >> Officers arrive thinking they're just helping a medical emergency. Inside chaos. Family members yelling, "That's my brother. She's my wife. We're just trying to calm him down." Everyone talking at once, no one listening. Paramedics squeeze past dancers and decorations while officers try to make sense of who's helping and who's obstructing. It's like trying to play musical chairs with 911 calls and family drama at the same time. >> You okay? >> What happened? >> Oh my god, bro. That's my brother. >> Okay. Okay, that's fine. Just give us a minute. You know, there's so many people. >> We didn't do anything wrong. >> Okay, that's fine. >> The go [Applause] I'm not doing nothing. I'm not doing nothing. >> I'm not doing nothing. >> Stop resisting. Stop. >> I'm not I'm not resisting. >> I'm not resisting. >> Stop. Stop getting up. >> I'm not I'm noting I'm not resisting at all. Listen, I'm walking with you. I'm listening to you. Listen, I was there when my uncle fell out. Okay? I was there when he fell out. >> Listen, I was there when my uncle fell out. >> Place you feel apart. >> I am. Listen. >> Search her. >> That's all right. You can search me. Listen. >> I was there when my uncle fell up. He has feelings regularly. >> He went to go to the bathroom. He placed a copper in the back of his mouth >> and he said he was going to fall out with a so we already knew what to do because my sister >> Okay, I'm following directions. My sister already knows what to do because she actually >> It's good. >> Yes. Listen, >> I am not resisting. I'm holding you. >> You have anything illegal on you? >> No, I do not. I don't. >> What's your head? >> I'm just trying to take care of my grandma. >> I'm trying to take care of my grandma. >> That's what happens when you don't follow instructions to shut down. >> Shut up. >> Okay. Hey, be quiet. Michelle. Michelle. Be quiet. That'll be what you got to do. Relax. I gave her a simple order just like I my sergeant did right there. And you keep going at it. You had to get in the way. You had to. Just like that guy. >> I was holding my mom. Not >> you people don't know how to act. No, I was holding my mom. >> Lean back. >> Grab me, bro. >> I will lean back. >> I will lean back. I will listen to your instructions. >> My mom was freaking out. >> She thinks that my uncle is dead. >> Okay. >> So, I'm moving the car here. We have to search these guys and get going. Instead of letting officers handle the scene, some family members kept stepping in, hands waving, explaining over each other, arguing about who grabbed who. Meanwhile, officers see bodies crowding paramedics and hear shouting. Classic recipe for detentions. By this point, birthday balloons meet flashing lights in a very awkward mashup. >> Well, we got both, right? >> Yes. >> Officer, you taking me to jail, bro? Officer, >> listen. I was holding my mom, bro. My mom is having a heart attack. That's her brother. >> Hey, Barbara. >> I was there when he fell out. >> Barbara, he's not >> Bro, I don't know. They got us in the car. Me and Michelle, I guess they taking us to jail, bro. >> He told me to sit down. I wouldn't sit out. Just chill. >> Get this. Turn it off. >> Get back out. >> I ain't do nothing to you, man. Nothing, bro. >> Up against the car. >> Yeah, but why you keep your feet apart? I haven't done nothing to you, officer. Don't think you stopped me the other night in my car, bro. I told you I changed my life, man. >> I mean, I ain't done nothing to you, bro. Why you Why you doing this to us, bro? My mom's 80th birthday. My brother, man. >> I mean, why you acting like this, man? >> I gave you a simple simple answer. >> You told me to sit down, bro. >> Because there's another guy yelling at you. >> But my brother, >> you two are about to fight. So, what the get >> That's who I work for. That's my brother. He owns a company down here. >> So, know how to act in public. know how to act in public. >> In public? >> Come on, bro. Off Lopez, man. My mom's 80th birthday, bro. Let's keep it apart. >> Come on, man. I didn't disrespect you in no kind of way, man. Don't say that, bro. I didn't disrespect you, man. While pulling away, officers yell, "Stop resisting!" while trying to cuff. One family member complains about hair in their face. Another pleads with Officer Lopez to remember a previous traffic stop. The whole thing feels like a soap opera crossover between cops and keeping up with the cousins. >> Hey, Officer Lopez, I ain't did nothing, man. You know I ain't did nothing officer Lopez at all, man. Come on. Don't do that, bro. You told me to [ __ ] out. So if he's put placing you under arrest, that means there's a lawful reason to place you under arrest. >> Under arrest for what, though? >> Officer Lopez, you taking me to jail, man? >> I haven't done anything. Officer Lopez, >> I got it. >> Officer Lopez, I haven't done anything, man. >> Lopez, can you please wipe my hair out of my face? >> Hey, Officer Lopez, I ain't did nothing to you, man. >> Pull me over the other day, bro. >> Honestly, I was stopping my cousin from hitting you and the other officer, bro. >> This is crazy, bro. I don't care about >> Why you keep pulling my legs? I ain't doing nothing to you, man. >> He's trying to fix your seat belt, sir. >> What I'm saying? He's taking me to jail for no reason. Sorry. >> He's taking you for resisting. >> What you I wasn't resisting. He was pulling me. It's on camera. >> He told me to sit down. You for real, bro? >> Come on, man. >> Bro, I don't care about that, bro. >> No, I mean, >> I saved Jasine from punching number. All right. What are you saying now? >> What's the matter? >> So, what I'm saying with your face, you said something. >> I need my hair out of my face. I can feel it. >> I'm I'm looking at it. >> It's literally right here. I'm looking at it. >> Wipe this side of my head. Right here. >> So, we're seeing one hair. >> No. >> So, it's a single hair. and wipe this hair. >> Hey, there we go. >> Hey, also also >> Yeah, hold on. Hold on. >> By this point, the officers had lost their patience. Commands were given, ignored, repeated, ignored again. The arrested man ranted about being searched the other night, about probation, about his brother dying on the floor. Basically giving a neverending pingpong of denial and excuses to get away from trouble. >> What's up? No, I was just checking if you were done with her. >> No, I >> Yeah, she said she was crying about hair in her face, so I just took the hair in her face. There's literally like three hairs, but apparently it'll bother you. >> The other woman is completely surprised at everything that just transpired. >> Move the car, >> huh? They need to go soon. Let's put her in the vehicle. Yeah. >> You're not under arrest right now. You're just being detained. Okay. >> You have any weapons on you? >> Don't look like it. Okay. >> Out. Go ahead. Have a seat. >> Your head. >> You doing this cuz you know I'm on probation. You stop. You know what you >> That's what I wanted. You would have been in jail by now. You know that. You know that. Last time I let you go, I let you go. So, >> you didn't let me go [ __ ] bro. >> Yeah, I did. >> You ain't let me go nothing, bro. >> And you threatened my family, bro. >> No, I didn't. >> Your nephew, whoever that is, he thinks that. >> So, what are you? >> All I'm saying, I will remember the officer that came after >> my officer. The main male suspect was charged with obstruction and resisting arrest. Others were detained but released after the scene calmed.
