You're under arrest. Okay. So, it is suspected there's a load of stolen tools there. >> You're also under arrest for conspiracy to commit theft and hand [music] in stolen goods. >> The Metropolitan Police has recovered what is believed to be the largest stash of stolen tools ever discovered in the UK. This is one of several containers from the seizure in Ilford and it gives you an idea of the actual impact and the size of the seizure. In the end, that resulted in um us having a total seizure value of between 1.5 and two million. And this is just an example of one of the 12 ton lorries that we've had to use to transport some of those goods to a secure storage. Having their tools stolen is their livelihood. um on a day-to-day basis, trades people all up and down the country are having to use tools uh for their day daily income and unfortunately being stolen. And it goes [music] to massively through mental health um losing their livelihoods. It has devastating impact. Um it's not just the the loss [music] of the you know four 6,000 worth of tools. Uh it goes beyond that. Um I hear stories of of builders that are then losing work. um builders literally in tears telling me about how the work they even had already planned um was then cancelled them as soon as they go to the uh the customer and ask for money up front. >> So you know breaking into somebody's vehicle or van that can put them out of business for weeks, months sometimes >> but actually what we are showing is police are actively doing stuff. The technology itself contains a synthetic DNA um which is applied onto the tools. Within [music] that solution as well there are tiny microscopic dots. So the benefit to police is that this enables them to have instant >> [music] >> identification of that DNA code at the scene. >> And the message needs to be really clear to the trades and and the big companies. You need to you need to mark your tools forensically [music] mark them with products such as selected DNA. You need to register them on the databases, [music] register them with the manufacturers, um, give us the opportunity to be able to, uh, locate you after we find them and and return them to you. This operation demonstrates the Met's commitment to crack down on tool theft from [music] individual trades people to large construction companies.
