today on Alpha responder Network they've called my office so they're going to kill me it's a lie yes it's not genuine no we've always had threats we've always had that but to come into a cop's backyard that's ballsy and that's that's just to show you where this cartel's at that they think they're beyond reproach that's right [ __ ] should be alarming to every Amir this is crazy camera out of my face what happens in our backyards today will be in your front yard tomorrow the cartel will stop at nothing to get their product into America no methamphetamine heroin this is probably the biggest challenge we're faing to stop it before it gets into the rest of [Music] America now Sheriff how long have you been in law enforcement and how long you've been the sheriff I've been in law forcement for 38 years and I've been the sheriff for the last 10 years um I still wake up with a smile and a purpose and people say hi Sheriff how still doing it I fact tonight I'm going to call a high school football game for the radio station so that's great I mean I got to have that I call that therapy sure yeah call that therapy I'm sure they love it too your son is also in law enforcement yes my son works for the police department um he's been involved in a couple shootings and uh he's had the the cartel actually call his Department said they're going to kill him they've called my office said they're going to kill me and my son got involved in a in a shooting where they tried to kill my son my son used deathly Force killed one of the the members Cel members and one got away uh the next day we get a call from Mexico saying that they were going to uh kill me they also called the police department said they're going to kill my son my neighbor came out to um smoke a cigarette at midnight and saw him in my backyard and that's how we got alerted I was up based on some uh I could have changed everything yeah yeah and so my deputies were already doing so cigarettes do save lives they do there that's what I'm saying it was a healthy thck store you don't mean you don't hear many of those I mean but after that when we really got proactive we've always had threats we've always had that but they come into a cop's backyard that's ballsy and that's that's just to show you where this cartel's at that they think they're beyond reproach that's right again I've seen The Good the Bad and the Ugly after 38 years in this job but the this is the ugliest I've ever seen it and U first time ever I we've had absence from our president United States our Administration and the leadership of Congress to be there to assist us that's frustrating Sheriff yeah and it's it should be frustrating to all the American people this is not a Democrat issue it's not a republican issue it's it's America's issue it's America America's border let's get back to that focus and get the heck get politics out of Public Safety and get leaders local state and federal that care about the American people and the Constitution that drives this country I'm big on that we've lost our moral compass yes thank you we're putting politics in front of people not just the American people we're putting politics in front of the people that are being trafficked like those ones we just saw on that traffic stop now how those people we we just talked to them they paid $7,000 they told me they were paying to come across um what percentage of the women are being raped when they come across the board well the majority yeah if not probably almost all that's why and I we didn't ask that question on the previous where you we had females we don't see a lot of females here in coaches we deal with almost 100% God which I did ask them did you ask that question I asked were you not afraid to be uh raped when you came across the border and the guy looked at me and kind of smirked and I said to him I said I know you're smile you're smirking but this happens yes and and and we see it we see birth control in our pocket we take reports of victims that have been unfortunately our hands are tied because these crimes are happening in another country yeah and it's very but this is the ruthless of this this group The desperations being shown and exploited through the criminal cartels why this country has not made the criminal cartels these transnational organizations a priority is another question I mean it it just bothers me that we're as you say our Compass is still it's fractured it's just [Music] fractured I see you got a sign like we got in our County it is and this is very sad Sheriff I mean and this is p put up by the federal government this is a to me this recognizes give up yeah this they say hey we we got it just be everybody be careful but what are you doing about the this is prevention where's the enforcement this is a prevention sign we need the enforcement instead of working with us let's put a prevention sign and act like it's not here and that's what they've done for years with this sign and many others so it's frustrating this is a frustrating sign now you've been a sheriff for 30 well you've been in law enforcement 38 years sheriff for 10 10 it's truly ripping up our constitution yeah and we got to do a better job than that the human trafficking the drug trafficking really is what it is what impact is that not at not just on coochi County what impact is that having on America well let's look at let's look drugs just Target on drugs drugs per minute 300 people a day are dying every day every 24 hours of drug overdoses in this country 95% of those drugs come through the southern border Arizona leads at in fentanyl we all know that stats from 2020 and then you look at the increases we're seeing that's such a negative impact of the institutional family that right there friends family communities I mean you take it to any level you want want and we're not even talking about it why are we not instead we're going to go hire a financial IRS agents to go out and address people's purses in a time of a recession inflation let's get back to the basics you know Family Faith education all the things that we need to embrace in this country that's made you and I stand here today how do we reverse this mistake this failed Leader's mistake and where's Congress on that I we should be collectively standing United saying we got to secure this border for America no other country is doing that no other successful country is just saying come on in we're opening Gates right tell me tell me the border secure we're leaving gaps and fences yes where people just walk in unencumbered Secretary amus comes out what 3 weeks ago two weeks ago and said that the borders got effectively secured that is so it's a lie yes it's not genuine it's not genuine to say that to the American people that don't live on the border that trust that this man's taken his old of office and that it is secure they they want to believe that but I'm telling you for your viewers that is not genuine that is so not genuine and we've worked with secretary my orcus to get him to engage with sheriffs like you and I and the many Sheriff's trying to make their Community safer he has chose not to take action with us this extra burden thanks to this Administration Congress has caused this great frustration caused my citizens frustration what you see this Canyon beautiful engine people hike they and this doesn't make you want to go back here and Hike yes because they know the smuggling is so prevalent in our County right now and and that just infuriates me are your Smugglers armed we have them armed we're we're seeing our Smuggler drivers uh we had one last 48 hours a teenager who was a fugitive a teenager fugitive Statewide extradition but also had a stolen gun on them so we we deal with probably the worst of the border the Tucson sector you and I both I mean our counties work very well together if I miss them hopefully you're getting them I mean because once they get to Phoenix done done it's safe they're home plate I know you feel the same way as I do we're the tip of the spear for this border crisis issue I always like to ask this question what does it mean to you to be an American Sheriff American Sheriff I think it's one of the Sacred elected positions and offices in our country that still the people respect number one number two is the reason they respect Ed is because you and I have to earn it we work every day for the people in our respective counties we believe in the rule of law we believe in the Constitution and we believe in our people that we serve we can't get away from that and the day that a sheriff puts his position over the people he's gone she's gone that's one thing that's great about our positions I think it's a sacred and to me is people have asked me why don't you run for this position why don't you run for Congress why don't you do this Sheriff because I love being a sheriff too and I'm not giving this up we don't work for Governors we don't work for you as Congress we don't work for the president United States and I'm not saying that in a derog derogatory way I say it in an honor way that I work for the people of my county and that's my bosses and there's power in that cuz it's the power of the people power of the people that's right it's the the people we all do our part we can make communities great I can't control DC I can't control Congress but I can control my County here and we'll continue to do that I say the same thing all the time and I couldn't agree with you more and one thing people say to me I'll leave you with this sheriff and people say Sheriff how do you still do it I mean with all the frustrations all the Vision all the erosions we're seeing with our quality of life in our country how do you still do it I said the day sheriffs you and I give up hope is the day we need to resign and I refuse to give up hope and I
