You're not going to jail. I promise you. >> Don't panic. Okay. >> It's okay. >> Hey everyone, it's Trent, prior deputy sheriff, patrol sergeant, and canine handler. In situations like this where there's a call for a welfare check due to possible domestic violence, especially if there's children at home as well. Law enforcement is going to verify that everybody inside the home is safe, not in danger, or potentially injured, especially upon realizing that the suspect is very aggressive, hostile, and intoxicated. However, once the suspect is outside and the mother of his children, that definitely changes the dynamic of how the investigation is going to proceed at that point. Because ideally with these situations, all parties need to be separated. Statistically as it is, domestic violence victims are less likely to cooperate or give an honest statement as it is, especially if their potential abuser is standing within feet or inches from them. And I've had to go to these calls before. When you're dealing with an intoxicated individual like this that just wants to create a disturbance for the sake of creating a disturbance or because they're intoxicated, sometimes the easier, more efficient approach is to automatically handcuff them and place them in the back of a patrol car, detaining them temporarily so that as a cop you can properly do your job and investigate what's going on. >> He was charged with disorderly intoxication and resisting an officer without violence, but remains innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. >> [music]
