On May 25th, 2025, a routine shopping trip at Macy's took an unexpected turn when a 63-year-old mother and her 41-year-old daughter were caught attempting to leave without paying. Staff quickly noticed suspicious behavior, leading to a tense hourslong standoff that involved fitting room maneuvers, careful tracking, and a dramatic interception that would leave everyone on edge. >> This is officer Harrison, the Bokeatron Police Department. The date is May 25th, 2025. The time is now approximately 1921 hours. The following is a tape sworn witness statement with Juan Carlos with uh the Macy's asset protection um in reference to Bocatron Police Department case number two. The statement is being taken at the AP office of Macy's at 5700 West Clean Road. Um Mr. Rodriguez, would you just raise your right hand for me? Do you solemnly swear a promise that the statement you give will be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. So help you God. >> Yes. >> And then just state your full legal name. >> Carlos. >> All right. Would you tell me what happened today? >> Yes. So um we So we have a sis well we have a system where they Okay. So two sub two female subjects came in today, right? One's the mom, one's the daughter. Uh they flagged on our system for not paying us for some merchandise um for the last couple weeks twi twice within the last couple weeks. So I was on lunch and when I came to clock back in I saw them in the I saw the mom in the parking lot. I then notified uh my partner Josh uh Porter about the female subject being here. The this is the mother by the way. So when she walks in um she meets up with the daughter. They both go to the woman's restroom. Once they come out of the women's restroom, they go to the men's active area where they where the mom selected a pink hat. Then the mom and the daughter with the pink hat goes upstairs to the second floor where our ready toear departments are at. Um she then um she then they both separate at this time and they start selecting multiple pieces of merchandise from different areas within the ready to wear department. Um, at this time, uh, Josh and Michael are on camera, one watching mom, one watching the daughter, and I'm on the floor making sure the the colleagues are clearing out the fitter rooms constantly, making sure they're empty before our subjects walk in with merchandise. The mom eventually walks in with her merchandise. Um, when she exits the fitting room, um, you can tell her her black purse is a little bulkier in size. Um, when I reviewed the merchandise that she had left behind, we did notice that there was a couple pieces missing. >> Um, and during that, so in the fitting room. >> Yeah, in the fitting room. And then during that time, the daughter goes to her own fitting room. Um, and where she answers with her own selections. The mom then with no selections but with the obviously the bag is bulkier in size at this point. She's still carrying it. The mom enters the fitter room where the daughter is still in. The mom comes out with no with no merchandise. But then she starts shopping and she selects about >> from the jump. The day at Macy's was anything but routine. Two women flagged for repeated unpaid merchandise wandered through the store. One keeping a low profile while the other seemed determined to turn fitting rooms into a strategic game of hideand-seek. >> Four items. So now they the mom re-enters the fitt room where the daughter is still in. There's about like 12 items that they have all together. They're in the same fitter room. Once they both come out, um Josh uh reviewed the merchandise, make sure what was missing, what's there, um he notified me that there was several items missing once again >> from the f room. And at this time, since they were in the same fitter room with the both selections in the same fitter room, we were going to stop both of them now if they were to walk out at this point. So both um mom and daughter then go to our swimsuit department where mom selects a few items, enters the fitt room in the nearby fitting room that's already pre-swept as well. And then um she comes out and we notice there's like one or two that are missing again. Um and then the daughter doesn't go in at that time. So once they're both out, they both walk back down to the first floor and they pass all points of cells and exit through Glad's entrance where we stopped them for the shoplifting outside the door of Glaz's entrance. >> Got it. Okay. So they pass all points of sale, didn't make any attempt to purchase the items at any register. >> Correct. >> Okay. All right. So um so yeah just to reiterate what you said. So they basically selected items went into the fitting rooms. The fitting rooms were cleared before they went in there and then when they exited the fitting rooms the fitt rooms were checked by yourself and your colleagues and that's when you how that's how you noticed merchandise was missing. Is that correct? >> Correct. >> Okay. All right. Um could you describe what the two females look like? >> The two females. So the daughter the daughter looks like white to me. She has like a blonde with highlights like uh hair and then like dirty blonde with highlights in her hair. Uh she had she was wearing all black and was carrying a black purse. The mother was wearing I think cheetah print pants, a black top and her own black purse as well. And she has like short hair with highlights. >> Okay. So, the two female subjects that you described and that had taken the merchandise and left the store and that you apprehended, those are the two female subjects that are in um in the room right now being detained. >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. And um if you don't know exactly just approximate how much in value of merchandise, >> I think total the total amount of merchandise was almost I think it was like $495 or $500 around there. >> Okay. All right, cool. Anything else you want to add to the statement? >> No. >> No. Okay. Do you real quick, do you know of the previous encounter? >> By the time both women had reentered the fitting rooms, their selections had ballooned to a dozen items. Each exit revealing missing merchandise that kept the staff on high alert. Every step was meticulously tracked from the swimsuit department to the second floor with the total hall nearing $500. >> Were they shoplifted? Do you have any >> They in the same departments like roughly around the same like the second floor where all our ready to wear clothing is at. >> That's what was flagged not being purchased when they walked out. >> Okay. And those those previous times, do you remember ever um seeing them put items in the bag or >> No, negative. I did not. No. >> Okay. >> It was just from a report we run. >> Got it. >> Real quick. >> No worries. All right. We'll go ahead and conclude the statement. The time is now approximately 1927 hours. This is officer Harrison of the Bocatron Police Department. The date is May 25th, 2025. The time is now approximately 1928 hours. The following is a sworn witness statement with um asset protection with Macy's Joshua Porter in reference to Bocarone Police Department. The statement is being taken at the AP office in Macy's, 5700 West Glades Road. Uh, Mr. Porter, would you just raise your right hand for me, please? Do you solemnly swear I promise that the statement you give will be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. So, I'll help you God. >> Yes. >> And would you just please state your full legal name? >> Joshua Porter. >> All right. Mr. Porter, you can lower your hand. Just tell me what happened today. So, uh, my ass prediction captain, Juan Carlos Rodriguez, he was outside coming in with his lunch when he noticed a repeat offender that we had yet to identify, uh, making her way towards the entrance, the Glades entrance. Uh, I immediately picked her up on CCTV and um, began watching her. She entered through our Glazes entrance, went over to uh, met up with another female, and they both went over to the bathroom on the first floor. When they came out of the bathroom, they made a way over to the uh men's acting department where they slept in a pink hat and then they went up to the second floor. Um the asset protection captain won't call us at the time uh went upstairs to begin clearing out the fitting rooms and repairing because we knew they do steal in the fitting room. Um Michael Powski maintained surveillance on the subject when I spent Lana. So I'm not quite sure what she was picking up at the time, but he'll be able to tell you more about that. I maintained um observation on Ulia. Julia goes over to uh the pad right at the top of the second floor escalator and begins selecting merchandise. She selected a total I believe of seven pieces and she makes her way to the fitting room over by the at your service department where we do our returns inside the fitting room which was pre-swept and pre-cleared out by Juan Carlos. Um she was in there for quite a while and then the other subject eventually meets up with her bringing inside more merchandise. Eventually they both exit out of the subfitting room at the same time. Uh the colleagues go in there and they kind of clear out the merchandise and they bring it to me. And that's when I realized we're missing approximately five pieces from when they went into that particular fitting room. So it was at that time we called it basically good to go. We're going to apprehend it. They walk out. They then go over to the swimwear department where they kind of walk around a little bit and one of the subjects takes uh her spetana. She takes some like swim coverups into the fitting room and she takes one at that at that time. And uh when she comes out of the fitting room, she's kind of like, "All right, let's get out of here." They go downstairs. >> Even with previous reports flagging them as repeat offenders, the two women moved through the store like pros, slipping merchandise between racks and into fitting rooms prepped by vigilant staff. Every step was tracked, every selection noted. Yet they kept up appearances. >> Back to the late entrance where they entered and they exit out and pass all points of sale where we make contact with them outside the entrance to bring them back inside and recover the merchandise. >> Got it. Okay. Um All right. And then the one that you said that you maintained visual on was just to clarify. Was that the is that the daughter or the mother? >> I think it's Yeah. I don't know if they're related yet, but I think it's it's the younger one. Julia Punkco, I believe. >> Got it. Okay. It's Bana's the older one. Okay. Got it. Okay. All right. Um so you were watching the younger one. Um and just read it reiterate what you said. Um the dressing rooms were cleared. They went inside and then when they exited they were checked again. And that's how you noticed merchandise was missing. Yes. >> Um, did they make any attempt to go to a register to pay for the items? >> No. >> No. Okay. So, they exited the store past all points of sale and that's when you apprehended both of them and located the missing merchandise on them. Okay. >> Um, do you know approximately how much in value was the >> roughly 500 I believe? >> Okay. Um, and could you just describe the two females for me? >> Yes. One's going to be um a bigger build, shorter, older female uh with short like blonde like the Karen cut almost wearing like cheetah pants and a black top. >> And then the other one is going to be younger, probably around like 57, 5'8 with long blonde ombre hair. Uh wearing like a black car top and black bottoms. >> Got it. Okay. So the the two females you described that that you observed and that um shoplifted tonight, they are in that room there being detained. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. Got it. Um All right. And then anything from the previous encounters that you recall or remember? >> So there is two previous encounters with Spetana where we noticed her walking out with unpaid for merchandise but we do not have a video retained at that time. >> Okay. How do how do you know that that she walked out with merchandise essentially? >> Um just from like the previous observations we've witnessed the theft. >> Okay. Do was um like did you all check the fitting rooms at that time? No. Okay. >> Okay. Um, okay. Yeah. Anything else you want to add to the statement? >> No. >> No. Okay. We'll go ahead and conclude the statement. The time is now approximately 1933. This is officer Harrison of the Boat Police Department. The date is May 25th, 2025. The time is now approximately 1936 hours. The following is a tape sworn witness statement with asset protection. Uh, Macy's. Um, are you manager? >> No, just detective. >> Asset protection detective. That's asset protection detective um Michael Priski in reference to Bocatrone Police Department. This statement is being taken at the AP office of Macy's 5700 West Glades. Uh Mr. Pazowski, would you just raise your right hand? Do you solemnly swear a promise that the statement you give will be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? I'll help you God. >> I do. >> Would you just state your full legal name? >> Michael Presto. After weaving through every department and passing all points of sale, the two women finally hit the exit, only to be intercepted by vigilant staff who recovered nearly $500 in merchandise. With repeated offenses on record, every move had been monitored and the meticulous tracking paid off. >> Very good. Mr. Prosowski, would you tell me what happened today? So, uh, we've been in asset protection, um, camera room and, uh, uh, one of our detectives, um, Juan Rodriguez, he was on the floor and he recognized one female. She was involved in previous shopliftings. Uh, from the picture, he recognized her. So, he, um, call us. Uh, we put the cameras on the on the female. um mid mid like maybe like she was like 50 years old short hair. So we she entered the like uh shoe department uh uh department and she was like looking at the shoes. Then we observed that she joined by other younger female and later we we knew that she was uh the daughter. We find out she was her daughter. So both females actually after you know short looking at the moment short looking at the shoes they decided to go on the second floor uh which is the women's department and they start like uh going through different departments uh making selection going to the feeding rooms so basically our I was on camera half of the time so previous mentioned one biggest detective and our manager Josh uh Josh Joshua Hoer they went on the floor to work on the feeding rooms because we knew those female that goes to the feeding room with selection and then there's a possibility they have a bag so they they can take this uh merchandise in the back. So it was important that we work we cannot go into the male detectives cannot go to the female room. So we have like work with our associate they they check the room before like pre-screen and they check after eventually possibility of taking something. So um uh the women split and they went to two different uh fitting rooms and we knew after the like the uh the older female short hair pos there was a possibility she already took like two items from the count. So she she was making selections. She went to the fitting room. I was watching her. Josh Porter was watching the younger female. >> So from our account, we we kind of knew that at least two items are missing from first feeding >> and then she left. She didn't have anything and then she picked up another selection, went to another feeding room, but she didn't take those four items. Actually, it was the same feeding room, but the second time she did not make any, you know, uh she took it, but she left everything in a fitting room that was confirmed by a social. It's a long story because it was like a lot of going back and forth >> like two hours of >> two hours >> uh from uh later on I can I can silence that later on later on um uh I also um >> the surveillance stretched over hours with every movement under scrutiny as the older and younger women navigated departments and fitting rooms like a well rehearsed routine. Even with pre-clared rooms and vigilant staff, merchandise disappeared in small increments, keeping tension high. >> I went on the floor and when two female actually meet up in the on the second floor by uh at your service near the exit door. So they they make some selection. So mom the older you know make some selection went to the feeding room with the daughter was already and we we have also associate who went there check there was some you know one or two items missing so we knew we have about you know four items but then they went to the still on second floor to the area with the swimsuits and then they mom selected three items went to the feeding room and looks like she took one item so it was like you couple feeding rooms you know three feeding rooms and lot of going back and working with associate so you know uh Juan and with partnership with manager the Josh they decided they're going to make a stop because uh at least four items will be in the bags >> then uh you know I've been then I we switched the places I was on the floor surveillance so I was watching them from the distance and they start heading without you know missing all the sales points They they went on the first floor. They miss all the sales points on the first floor and then they've been looking a little bit by Glades. They spend maybe like a minute and then they decide to uh leave the Glades door which is this north entrance without making payments for the merchandise. >> Okay. >> We stop them. They kind of cooperate and they agree to come office to office and return the merchandise basically. >> Okay. And the two females that you were talking about, those are the two females that are in this room over here being detained. >> Yes, that's right. >> Okay. All right. Is there anything else you want to add to the statement? >> Nothing. >> All right. The time is now 19:42 hours. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> How's it going? My name is Officer Harrison with the Buck Trump Police Department. Um, you guys obviously have been detained for shoplifting. You aware of that? You're being detained for shoplifting. >> All right, we'll talk about it. So, I'm going to talk to you first. Can you step over here, please? >> Okay. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm going to talk to you. Just come on here. >> Hello. All right. >> Step over here. Just to the left. Step right here. Yep. Face the door. Face the door. >> Face the door. >> Face it. >> Yep. Look at the door. There you go. >> I might need to move here. >> Yep. Yeah. >> All right. So, I'm putting you in here. You're being detained. >> One second. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. You're being detained. >> Stop moving. After hours of careful monitoring, the older and younger women finally make their way past every point of sale. Merchandise tucked away, unaware that asset protection has eyes everywhere. The tension spikes as officers intercept them at the north entrance, stopping them in their tracks. What seemed like a routine exit quickly turns into a controlled apprehension. >> Just relax. Stop moving, please. >> We'll explain everything. Just relax. >> All right. Do you have anything on you? Any shark weapons or anything? Just face that way. Face the door, please. >> Good. >> Okay. So, just got to make sure. >> Good. >> Yeah. Take a step back, please. I got her. We're going to walk out there. All right. >> We're going to walk out that way. >> Here to talk. >> Stand right here. Turn around. >> Okay. So, you're being detained right now. Okay. >> What? >> Because you were shoplifting. All right. So, I'm going to read you your rights. You ever heard of your constitutional rights? Miranda writes, I'm going to read them to you. So, I am required to warn you before you make any statement that you have the following constitutional rights. You have the right to remain silent, not answer any questions. Any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given. You have a right to the presence and representation of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statement and during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, you're entitled to the presence and representation of a court-appointed lawyer before you make any statement and during any questioning. If at any time during the interview, you do not wish to answer any questions. >> I don't understand. You should translate. >> What? What do you not understand? >> What you say for me? >> So, you have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions. >> So, what does that mean? >> I need translate. So, she translate for me. >> Who? No, you can't have her translate for you. >> So, what do you not understand? >> No. But say you say over there. >> You have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions. >> So, I'm going to talk to you. >> Okay. No problem. >> I'm going to talk to you. You can be quiet. You don't have to answer my questions. >> Do you understand? >> Understood. >> Okay. We're going to go through it line by line. >> Okay. >> Any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given. >> So, that means I cannot force you to make a statement. You have to want to talk to me. >> With the women finally in custody, the focus shifts to procedure as officers carefully read their rights, making sure everything is dotted and every constitutional box checked. The tension is quiet but palpable, each word measured, each movement deliberate. >> Do you understand? >> I understand. >> Okay. You have a right to the presence and representation of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statement and during any questioning. So that means if you want to have a lawyer present with you while I ask you questions, you have that right to do so. Do you understand? >> I understand. >> Okay. If you cannot afford a lawyer, you are entitled to the presence and representation of a courtappointed lawyer before you make any statement and during any questioning. So that means if you don't have the money to pay for a lawyer, one will be give appointed to you by the court. Do you understand? >> Do you understand? >> Yeah. If you don't, let me know. >> No. >> If if you don't have money for a lawyer, the court will give you a lawyer. They will appoint you a public defender. >> We have to go court. >> Eventually, it goes to court. Yes. But I'm saying that all all this says >> what say just now for us. >> No. All I'm saying is if you cannot pay for a lawyer, one will be given to you. >> I just want a little bit. I don't understand. We discuss now with this uh all these messes guys and say for us completely different things we just I won't pay for this everything >> I just apologize and pay I won't pay and uh it's safe for me to no police no nothing now it's completely different >> yeah well they they called us >> why >> well I'm going to I'm going to explain why but I have to read you this first >> because because this is a lie for us. >> No, I know. But I I will explain why they called us. But first, I have to read your rights. Okay. So, that's why I'm going through each one so that you understand. >> But this is no good. >> Yeah. It is not good. Stealing is not good. So, like I said, if you cannot pay for a lawyer, the court will give you a lawyer. Do you understand? >> Yeah. >> Okay. If at any time during the interview you do not wish to answer any questions, you are privileged to remain silent. So while I ask you questions, if you don't want to answer questions, you say, "I don't want to talk or I don't want to answer questions." Okay? >> Do you understand? >> Okay? I can make no threats or promises to induce you to make a statement. This must be of your own free will. So once again, I cannot threaten you or make any promises for anything. If you talk to me, it's because you want to. Do you understand? >> Little bit. Don't. No. >> Okay. So I >> everything. >> So I can't say anything to you to make you talk to me. You have to want to talk to me. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Do you understand? >> Um any statement can be or will be used against you in a court of law. So everything that we're talking about is going to be used against you as evidence in the court. Do you understand? >> Yeah, I understand. But I little bit don't understand why. >> As the officer methodically walks through each right, the tension builds, not because anything flashy is happening, but because every word lays the groundwork for the next stage, the suspects listen, occasionally confused, as the reality of legal representation and courtroom consequences sinks in. >> Why we're here and everything. >> Why? Why you >> No, I get that. But I want to make sure you understand those rights. Do you understand what I read to you? I went through each one with you. Do you understand that last one we said that everything we talk about it can be used as evidence in court? Do you understand that? >> No. Evidence it is somebody who >> Everything's recorded on camera. Okay. So it it can be used against you in court. Do you understand? >> No, not too much really. So, we're going to go to court, right? We're going to go to court. Everything we're talking about right now, the court is able to see and it can be used against you cuz I'm going to ask you about what happened. So, do you understand now? >> Okay. >> Okay. Um, do you have any questions about what I read to you first? Not about this. Just this first. I'm just little bit now. No my feel that's why I maybe I don't understand too much. >> So what do you not understand? Tell me what you don't understand. >> I just don't understand why it happened like this. >> I'm saying don't not about the incident. I'm saying about what I read to you cuz I'm going to explain to you what happened. But I need you to understand these first. These are your constitutional rights. >> Maybe she didn't explain to me after. I don't know. >> But but you said you understand each one that we went through. >> Not not really. >> Okay. But you told me you understood >> because in my English not would understand this. Uh maybe I'm not understand correct that like like this. >> Okay. So basically I'm going to ask you questions about what happened today. >> Okay. >> You do not have to answer questions. >> Okay. >> You do not have to talk to me. Do you understand that? >> I understand. >> Okay. If you want a lawyer, you can ask for a lawyer before we have a conversation. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> Okay. Do you have any questions about what I said? Okay. So, now we're going to talk about what happened. So, the reason why we're here is because they know that you had shoplifted two times before today. You shoplifted back in March and um last week Sunday. Last Sunday, a week from today, on Sunday, you came here to the mall, right? Um, I I I come in >> last week you came here. >> There's video showed you here at the mall. >> The tension shifts as the officer patiently navigates through the rights, trying to make them stick with the suspect who's clearly puzzled by the legal jargon. It's a careful balancing act, clarifying each point without escalating stress. Setting up the next phase where past incidents and video evidence come into play. >> Yeah. >> And you you took stuff and you put it in your bag and you left without paying. >> It's happened like this. No. >> Okay. What about today? >> Today is is Yeah. >> What happened today? just I just I don't know what I say. No. Sorry. >> Do you want to tell me what happened today? >> Just >> It's better if you're honest. >> I need >> honest. Yeah. Truth. >> Just make mistake. That's it. >> You made a mistake? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> This never happened again. >> Okay. What What mistake did you make? What did you do? Just >> imag. >> So from what what I got is you were putting stuff in your bag or you know you were holding stuff. You went into a changing room, the dressing room in the fitting room. You know what a fitting room is? Where you try on clothes? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, you went into a fitting room and that's when you put stuff in the bag and then left the fitting room. >> Just make me That's it. >> H I'm sorry. >> I can see you're sorry. >> Yes. >> But I still I still want to hear it from you. >> So, is that >> is that is that accurate? >> No, it's just Yes. You brought you brought stuff into the fitting room, you put in your bag, and then you left the fitting room and then you walked out of Macy's without paying for the items. Is that essentially what happened? >> And then so why did you do it? Why? >> I don't know. >> Did someone tell you to do it? >> Try to leave. job. >> Did um No. >> Did someone tell you to do it or was it your idea? >> No, they just actually >> I don't know what I'm saying for you. >> Huh? >> I don't know. I don't have even I don't know what happened. >> Okay. But was it your idea or was it her idea? Was it her idea? >> Not your idea. >> So it was your idea. >> So your idea to come in here, take stuff and leave the mall without paying? >> No, I just disgusting like this. Just make mistakes. That's it. >> Yeah. I don't know what I said. I don't know even D. I never do this really. >> Okay. I'm just trying. She's a completely She don't know that about >> Okay. Cuz there was stuff in her bag and stuff in your bag. >> The interrogation takes a turn as the suspect fumbles through explanations, alternating between apology and confusion. The officer patiently reconstructs the chain of events, from the fitting room to the attempted exit without payment, teasing that the next part will dive into prior incidents that paint a clearer picture of repeated behavior. No. >> So that's why you both got stopped and both got in trouble and >> so why did she have stuff in her bag? >> So it was not her idea. No. >> Okay. It's really not. >> Okay. Cuz I'm going to I'm going to ask her. And is there any particular reason like you guys you don't have the money to pay for it or did someone tell you to do it? [Music] >> I do. >> I make big mistake. That's it. It's for my whole life. >> Have you ever shop Have you ever shoplifted before? I shop always but never happen like this. Really >> shoplift like like steal. You ever steal before? >> No. No. Never. Really? No. >> Okay. So, this is just the first time. >> First time. Billy. Sorry. I'm so shame. And she's complaining. I don't know. But I'm sorry. I just so sorry. >> Okay. Um, might as well just get the 14 now while we're out here. All right. I need to get >> guys. Please. Yeah. Please. You never again. Please. Yeah. >> No, I got you. I got you. >> I'm trying to get you. >> Okay. I need to get >> You don't know about this, will you? >> Okay. I just got to get some information from you. >> Please. I will. >> Who is she to you? >> It's my daughter. >> She's your daughter. Okay. Please. I I want to ask you something. >> Do you still live at Hollandale Beach? You >> do you live somewhere else? >> Mhm. >> Okay, hold on. >> Is it never happened again? Really? I'm so shame. >> Where where do you live? And really I am how I explain to you step forward real quick. Just step right over here. Where you going? Here. >> Yes. I just need to get the >> All right. Just step over this way, ma'am. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. >> Do you know the zip code? >> I >> um what's your phone number? Tension rises as the investigation drills down on the mother-daughter duo, peeling back the layers of confusion, apologies, and firsttime mistakes. The officer carefully navigates the conversation, confirming relationships, addresses, and prior behavior while trying to make sense of conflicting statements. >> Okay. Where um where were you born? and burn Russia. >> How do you spell that? >> Spell burn. >> Uh to t y l a >> Russia. >> Yes. >> That's where you're born. >> Okay. Um how tall are you? >> 162 cm. Um, let me say like 52. >> Um, how much do you weigh? >> Just estimate. >> 250. >> Um, you have brown hair. >> Brown eyes. >> Okay. Um, do you work? >> You have a job. >> What do you do? What do you do for work? >> No, your job is not good enough. It's just for us. >> Where do you work? >> I just work on in a store. >> What store? >> At Harale store. Uh, and have Russian. >> What's the name of the store? >> And how do you spell that? >> V O P E. So the store is called Hollandale and Roa. >> Daily store. >> What kind of store? >> Daily store. >> Daily food store. >> And you're a cashier. >> Um trying to think. Do you have any tattoos? >> Tattoos? Uh, piercings? I see you have ear piercings. No other piercings. >> I can't think of anything else about >> religion. Do you have a religion? >> Do you practice a religion? >> No. >> No. >> Oh, no. >> Okay. >> And uh social social security. She has >> um >> or she's a citizen. >> Are you a US citizen? >> Yes. >> Yeah. The officer shifts gears, moving into basic personal details to build a full picture. Birthplace, height, weight, and work history all come under the microscope. Even small details like piercings and store names matter here, painting a clearer profile. >> So, I know that might that can just generate with the >> It normally does. Yeah. >> All right. Cool. >> What? go to my >> No, it doesn't go to your work. >> Doesn't go to work. >> It's never happen again. I'm so sorry. I'm just put in trouble her and it's happen like this. I don't know how it's planned to you. It's never happened again and just >> Okay, I'm going to go talk to your daughter now. Okay. So, I'm gonna put you back in the room and I'm going to talk to your daughter. >> Just come over here. >> Just stand right here, ma'am. Ma'am, just walk right over here. Right over here. Just press the smartphone. Yep. Can you stand up? >> Just turn around. >> Do you understand more English? >> Okay. >> So, you're just being detained right now. >> So, you're being detained right now. >> All right. We're going to talk to you out here >> and then we're going to have a seat. Okay. >> Okay. >> Thank you, ma'am. >> Can I ask you something? >> Yes. Wait. >> Can you >> I can't take them off. They have to stay off. >> Jail? >> Yes. Just have a seat. We're going to explain it all in a second. Okay. Just have a seat for me. Okay. >> Go to jail. >> Yes. Just have a seat, please. Okay. >> Okay. Stay just like that. I just have to double lock them. Oh, sorry. So they don't tighten on you. Okay. >> Okay. You can face me. >> No weapons on you. >> Yep. Let's have a seat. I'll be very back. All right. Sit down, please. >> Okay. Okay, try your best. >> So, you speak a little more English than your mom. >> The focus now shifts to the daughter with officers carefully separating her from her mother to clarify roles and responsibility. While the handcuffs are secured, the dynamic shows a delicate balance between authority and explanation. >> Okay. So, um, first what I'm going to do is I'm going to read you your constitutional rights or your Miranda warnings. Have you heard of those? >> Constitutional rights. Okay. >> Excuse me, my sweet. >> Yep, you're good. Have a great day. You too. Um, I'm going read you these first, make sure you understand them and then I'll explain to you everything that's going on. Okay, sound good. Your first name is what? >> Julia. >> Julia. Okay, so just listen for me, Julia. So, I'm required to warn you before you make any statement of the following constitutional rights. You have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions. Any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given. You have a right to the presence and representation of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statement and during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, you're entitled to the presence and representation of a courtappointed lawyer before you make any statement and during any questioning. If at any time during the interview do not wish to answer any questions, you are privileged to remain silent. I can make no threats or promises to induce you to make a statement, this must be of your own free will. Any statement can be and will be used against you in a court of law. Do you understand these rights that I've read to you? Okay? If you don't, just let me know. I'll explain. You understand? Okay. So, it just took a little longer cuz I had to help translate with her mom. But from your version, tell me what happened there. >> That mistake. That's it. I'm really embarrassed. >> Okay. It never happened. It will never happen again. >> Okay. What What happened today? Cuz we weren't here. Who got the idea to do that? Wow. >> I don't know. >> Was it Was it your idea? Was it your mom's idea? It's your mom, right? >> Yes. Okay. Was it your idea? Was your mom's idea? Was it both of yours idea? Whose whose idea was this? >> Both. >> Both. Okay. And was there any particular reason why you decided to to steal clothing? Like I just want to know how how on a Sunday at 5:00 in the afternoon the both of you decide or we're going to go into Macy's and steal like that doesn't just happen. >> No, of course not. >> So we never you know we going to Macy's we live here and we buying a lot of things in here. Attention turns fully to Julia as officers carefully read her Miranda writes, making sure she understands each point despite the language barrier and her embarrassment. The tension is tangible as she admits mistakes and hesitates to assign blame, hinting at a complex family dynamic. >> Okay. >> Macy's always. >> So, you buy you shop a lot at Macy's? >> Yes. Do you shop a lot at this Macy's >> or a different Macy's? >> We come in at this Macy's sometimes. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, shop a lot. >> So, why why not just pay for the items? >> I don't know. I just embarrassing. Honestly, it's it's embarrassing. I got you. That's that's what that's all I'm just trying to figure out is obviously we know stuff was stolen and you have the ability to pay for the items I assume cuz you've shopped at Macy's multiple times. So what made today different that you were just like no we're not going to pay we're just going to take it? >> No it's not that thing. >> Did you think that you could take the items and not be caught? Is that why like you thought that they wouldn't know? >> Did someone tell you to do it? >> Did your mom make you do it? >> No. >> I don't want to do it. So you really just don't have any reason why. You just >> Was it like a last second decision >> or is it something else? I didn't come for this. >> So you didn't you didn't come to the mall to Macy saying I'm going to shop. >> Absolutely. >> So it was it was like a last second decision. [Music] >> Okay. >> All right. I got you. Um anything else that you want to talk about? I guess >> everyone did too. >> But why? >> Because so there's a particular statute where when people work together to steal things, it becomes a felony. >> But we didn't work together. The questioning digs into the why behind a decision that seems completely out of character, revealing it was a last second choice rather than a planned heist. Julia struggles to explain, admitting embarrassment and a lack of motive. While officers carefully separate facts from assumptions, >> I'm just tell I'm just being honest with you. That's that's what happened. Okay. So, right now >> that's not working together. >> Okay. But that's what you just told me >> and all the deals. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> All right. So, I just have to get your information now. Um, where uh Sorry. Can I see real quick? >> Do you still live? Do you still live? >> Okay. Oh, so that's where the mom lives, too. That's the same address. Um, what's your phone number? Yes. >> Okay. Um, what where were you born? >> What city? >> Can you sell it? >> U >> in Russia. >> Um, are you are you a citizen? >> I um how tall are you? And approximately how much do you weigh? >> You have brown hair, brown eyes. >> Um, do you work? >> Yes. >> Where do you work at? >> Samp market. >> It's a home care agency. >> Home care agency. What's it called? Santa's choice. >> Santa >> Santa's choice. >> Santa's choice. >> Like the like Santa? >> Yes. >> Oh, okay. >> It goes to my work, too. >> No. No. We're not going to call you work. We just We document it. Okay. >> But please, why you have to be? This is It's just >> It's It's Macy's. Macy's chose for that to happen. They choose ultimately if they want to prosecute people, and they they do want to prosecute for this. >> But why? That's what they told us. >> I don't want my mom to go to jail, >> think. Do you have a religion? >> I'm Christian. >> Christian. Do you have any tattoos? No. Do you have any piercings beside ears? No. Um >> Oh, you have a cell phone number? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Yeah. >> Okay. All right. You want to bring her to your car first? >> There's there's nothing that you can do. It's like I said, it's Macy's that makes that decision. >> Okay. So, >> I can pull your car up if you want to. >> Um, sure. >> So, we're going to go out here now. [Music] This is my back and my >> We'll get your stuff. We'll get your stuff. The officer shifts into paperwork mode, collecting basic details while keeping the pressure low, clarifying citizenship, employment, and personal info. The tension is oddly domestic, less about a criminal record, more about documenting what Macy's might pursue. 42. >> I'm going to have two white female type 15 do something not to go to jail. No, we can't. >> Unfortunately, what's going to happen next? Um, we're going to go to our uh booking station. I have to do some paperwork and uh and then you go to the county jail and see a judge and explain to them what happened. They're probably just something when they want to be able. >> Um I'm sure that I'm sure they have a bond. I don't know what it is or what they're going to set. You You honestly have to wait till you get up there. Um there should be bags in my trunk if you would be able to grab one real quick. >> I don't want my mom to go to jail. She needs medicine. She does like [ __ ] >> Okay. They have medicine up at jail. Like I said, this isn't our choice. This is Macy's. So, it's nothing that I can do to put >> everybody doing mistake. Why? This is This is first and last time. Why you have to go to jail? It's the first and last time. Why you have the whole That's how the law works. All right. Walk over here with me. All right. So, I'm going to search you real quick. Just watch your step here. Step off. Take one step to your left. Bravo 34. >> All right. You're going to face the car and I'm going to search you. Okay. Can you spread your feet? >> Spread your feet. There you go. >> Do you have anything sharp on you? Anything that's going to poke me, prick me, hurt me, stab me. >> No, nothing sharp. Nothing in here. We're going to put this in a bag for you. The tension ramps up as the reality of the law hits. No shortcuts, no let's just go home magic. The officer calmly explains that Macy's made the call and now it's off to the county jail and a judge. Amid the nerves and pleading, a quick search is conducted, ensuring safety while they gather personal items, keeping the process orderly despite the rising panic. I'll stay with her. You go get mom, please. >> Yeah. I'm going to crank it and open the windows for you. >> I got you. I got you. Yep. 25 facilities. All righty, man. >> Take this with you. >> We're going to the our station, our police station in Boca Raton. We need you to walk with me. Okay. My TV phone. >> Hm. >> My TV phone. >> What? >> My phone. >> We're going to get it. >> Yeah. I really heard this. >> I'll take a look. >> I really heard this. I can't even see sit in the car. >> Okay, I'll take a look for you. So, we're going to go this way. Watch your step. So, just stand right here. I have to search you. Okay. Spread your feet. I'm looking. Hold on. >> I'm so hurt. I can't even I should see it. >> Well, it's cuz you were you were resisting us earlier. That's why we had to throw these on real quick. >> I'm going to loosen it just a little bit. Okay. Just don't move. >> Is that better? I'm going to go anyway. >> The tension doesn't let up as officers guide both mother and daughter toward the police station, balancing safety with reassurance. Amid the strict procedure, small gestures like loosening restraints and opening windows show a mix of protocol and empathy. >> Rhino. Is that better? >> Yep. Just give us a second. We're going to adjust them for you. Okay. >> Oh, I see. >> I know they're not comfortable. >> Just face the car. Okay. >> Thank you. Yep. She's going to adjust them right now for you, ma'am. Okay. Just put your hand together like this. Like leave it just like that. Okay. >> Perfect. I know she's adjusting it. I'm sorry. >> I know it's not super comfortable. Yeah. >> Yeah. All right. That should feel much better. Okay. They're going to come off once we get to the police department. Okay. >> I can't see. >> Hold on. So, just one sec. >> Do that again. Just stay like that. >> Just stay like that. Okay, just give us a second. We're gonna adjust the cuffs for you. Okay, >> one second. >> We go. It like went on the last notch. >> Oh, damn. >> Good. All right. >> Oh my god. >> I just need to search you. Okay. Spread your feet. >> Uh-huh. Do you have anything sharp on you? >> No. >> No. No weapons or anything? 95. No bracelet. >> I don't see bracelets or rings. >> Take your earring. >> My chain. >> You have what? >> No, my chain. >> My >> Is this a different bag or >> different? Okay. You have what? >> Chain. Let's just let's just finish up with mom and then we'll get ask answer your question. Okay. >> Y >> it's up. All right. And no ink. All right. Have a seat. >> Jewelry and personal items are systematically removed. Each step documented and verified. While the tension is tangible, the focus remains professional, setting up the transition to the police station where paperwork and official processing will take over, keeping the momentum tight. >> Put one leg in. Your right leg in. Right leg in. Yep. And then sit. Boy, I can't see. >> Just lean forward. Lean forward. There you go. >> Just Just lean forward. If you want to tell her, lean forward. I'm going to make this looser. Hold on. >> All right. Okay. It's not going to be long. I just have to We're going to go across the street to get gas and then we're going to go to the station and then we'll take you guys out of the car. Okay. So, you're not going to be in the car long if you want to tell her. Okay. >> Can I please stay next to her? If you go to wherever we go, can I please stay next to her together? >> Yeah, you'll be in the same area. You'll be in the same area. Okay. >> Okay. I'm going to go >> grab their stuff. Lean on the wall and lift your foot up. Give me your foot. Yeah. Okay, hold on. Hold on. face. >> Shoes are removed and a careful secondary search ensures nothing is missed. Amid the heat and tension, they reassure the detainees about staying together, all while prepping for the quick transfer to the station where the next stage of processing awaits. Fernando, can you just do me a quick favor? >> Can you just go stand out with the other female in the car? >> She's in 616. Thank you. Okay, come over here. Over here. I'm going to take the handcuffs off you. Guys, my mom. She's going to be nearby. Hold on. Open your hands. Okay. Can you take the bracelets off? Thank you. Okay. Just hold on. But it could be home. [Applause] At this point, the tension starts to ease as the handcuffs come off and the mother and daughter are finally side by side. Officers juggle paperwork while addressing basic needs like toilet paper and keeping everyone calm. What's Lana? >> Is this your bag? [Music] >> Yeah, >> this one's yours. >> Okay.
