A missed flight can be rescheduled, but what this man lost that day could not be recovered. >> Stay seated. >> Don't ever grab me again. On March 3rd, 2022, a man in a heightened emotional state caused a disruption at the airport while attempting to board another flight after missing his original one. The situation quickly raised concerns about the well-being of his wife and their six-year-old daughter. Airport staff focused on calming the environment and safeguarding those involved while requesting assistance from authorities. Come out now. >> It's okay. It's okay. >> He's inside. >> They're right here. Right here. >> Where? I'm off from Jersey. If you need help, >> you know, I'm just looking for the bad guy. Get that guy's inside here, >> sir. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. Hands are back. Hands are back. Hands again. Hands again. Put your hands behind your back. Give me a cup. >> Put your hands behind your back. Give me a cup. All right. >> No. No. You stop. You stop. All right. Sorry. Sorry. I got you. Here's a He's I just said straight. I'm sorry. >> Relax. >> Are you okay? >> Relax. >> Too much straight. I'm sorry. Little bit on your side. Roll over. Right. Watch the lungs. >> There you go. >> You okay, brother? >> Yo, you're pretty good, man. >> Good shot. Good shot. I'll give you that. >> You okay, brother? >> No, I'm not good. >> You need to get up. >> I'm going to stand up. >> You want to sit you down in a wheelchair? >> Just stand me up. >> We're going to stand up. >> Yep. Get in a wheelchair. Get on the side. >> There you go. Have a seat. Use your legs. >> Listen, man. I just had two drunk. >> All right. >> I'm a drunk. Sorry. >> Do me a favor. Take this leg. >> Okay, buddy. >> I love you. >> Breathe. Believe it. >> Just breathe. Bring this knee up to your chest. Okay. >> All right. Watch your back. One, two, three. >> Here we go. >> All right. >> No. Sit down. >> I'll do whatever you want. Whatever you want. >> Right there, buddy. >> There you go. SC not one of the guys that you beat up. We're good. There anymore. Here we go. >> Please choose. How are you out here? I just want to get up. God damn. >> I just drank too much. >> I have a car downstairs over here. Talk to your family. Your wife over here somewhere. >> Yeah. >> Is there a plane attached to this jet wife? Anybody? Anybody know? Anybody attachments? >> Hey, let's go to the elevator. >> Let's go to the elevator. >> Let's go to the elevator. We got the people. >> Stay with him. Let's go to the elevator. Let's get out of here. >> I got you. >> Come on. Let's go. Follow me. Follow me. Let's go. >> Please take this out of my chest. >> We're going to get him off as soon as I get over here. >> My wife. Make waves. Make waves. Excuse me. Make waves. >> Yeah. >> You stop it. >> You calling nice. >> The husband's concerning behavior led officers to closely monitor the condition and comfort of the wife and child. >> They were sitting next to us and he he was getting kind of loud and then he right here >> right here. right in these seats here and he was getting kind of loud and then um she sitting I was sitting next to me and he actually said to her not he says oh really I'm being bad and he says I'll drop you right here and I leaned over to her and I said are you safe? >> So you told her I was going to drop you right here. >> He was going to drop his wife. >> He dropped and all sorts of stuff but I did get security and I tried to help. Good. I appreciate you. >> Thank you. Got here. >> I guess he was anxious about flying >> and um when you know where the Dunkin Donuts is, he kind of lost him. He was yelling and screaming, cursing at people for no reason. Like if you're standing, they just curse at you. So I wasn't I was more concerned with them. Kind of I kind of cursing and yelling. Um he came over to us and um kept on yelling and screaming loud to the bar two different times and came back over here yelling and screaming thirsty just got the worries once I said that I was going to call security >> on the way here. You know they were telling us that he he had to pull my hair. >> Yeah, that's what they told us on the radio. That's why we're coming fast. Yeah. >> All right. And you said he's your husband. Has he done this before? He's >> No, no, but the drinking. Yes. >> But he drinks, he becomes aggressive. >> So he drank today. >> Yes. >> Well, he came with a >> big glass of look like a martini or something. >> Okay. That's probably changed his mood. >> Yes. While the mother's account provided additional context, reports from airport staff showed that the man's emotional outburst affected the shared public space, underscoring how personal actions can impact others around us. >> So, we received a call from the agent at gate 48 that >> you want to take it off so I can so you can catch your voice. It's okay. >> That we need a supervisor. There's a a customer being abusive towards his family. So, then I I'm usually the ramp supervisor, but since she goes by herself, I was like, I'll go up with them. You know what I mean? So I came up and as soon as I came up she came over here like no we got to call the police cuz he was screaming already in the g in the gate area and everybody's just staring. She's kind of >> the wife, her sister and the kids were like kind of like in the corner like right there sitting in the front and I I noticed that there was fear. So then I looked at them. I'm like are you guys okay? And then she's like no we need help. So that's when I pulled outside I told him to come with me that I needed to talk to him away from the gate area. He just looked at me crazy and he didn't get up. So then I told them you guys step away and I kind of got in between where he was sitting and where she was. And this was right there in the front where the kid with the burgundy. So I told her to come back here where this area is kind of away from them. So when she did that, he started following and wanted getting aggressive verbally. So then I talk to her, right? You're trying to talk to her. >> No, I wanted to keep him away from her. You know what I mean? Cuz I saw the aggression building when he started walking following me like trying to get here to them and I was like, "Sir, I'm going to call the police. you need to step away. So then he started walking that way like rushing like he was trying to get away. So the family came here. I followed to see where he went so we could notify you guys. You know what I mean? Not close. I let the distance. You know what I mean? And he stopped at 42 and he was trying to blend in. So I came back and as soon as I came back somebody said he's coming back. And I looked and I told the family I scanned my badge in here and I was like you guys come in here if to me this is a secured area on the jet bridge. You know what I mean? To keep him away. So I close the door and the kids are crying and they're saying he gets like that when he drinks he's he's aggressive. He gets aggressive. He's like the wife. She's like he's going to hurt somebody. He's going to hurt somebody. And I was like he can't get in here. >> Busted the door open like nothing. Like it was opened like he went. It was locked. Like if you try to go in there right now it's not going to open. But that's what I thought. Yeah. Right. He just went boof and open the door. And I told him sir, you can't be in here. Just kind of me out the way. get out of my way, but with his body, not his hands. >> That's That's still a battery. That's still a battery. >> So once he went in the jet bridge and he was telling her like, "You're really doing this to me." And he grabbed itself and went poof right in there in the jet bridge. Like he grabbed it like this. >> Stop. Repeat that again. I don't want to grab He grabbed it like this, right? You're holding. >> Let's say this is Yeah. So let's say this is the inside of the jet bridge, right? And he went bof like that. Like he hit the cell phone with the wall. >> His cell phone or your cell phone? >> His cell phone. Not mine. But he's >> self trying to hit something but he won't. So then I told him >> get a little scared. You get a little scared for the because of his uh his uh state of mind. >> I was my mindset was more I was >> cuz you were there at that time. You were there alone right with him >> with the family. I was more being overprotective with them cuz I know that he will harm her. You know what I mean? I'm looking at him his whole movement in there. Then I kind of talked him on to look, come on guys, let's go out here and he started she started grabbing everything and he walked out and I closed the door again. So this time around I was holding the handle inside of there and trying to put my body to it and holding the the side the corner here pulling it on me cuz every time that he would try to open it, I will pull it on. >> So he was he was >> he was trying to go in again when we were going to exit out there that she was grabbing everything. >> When I told him, "Come on, let's go out there. I'm going to book you guys so he could calm down." But as soon as he went out first and she was grabbing her stuff, I went and I slammed the door onto me again. This time I kind of put my foot on the corner and I was pulling the door on me, the handle like the to exit. >> And you were in the jet bridge while >> I was in the jet bridge and the family was behind me. So then he was here. >> She called Yep. She called she called her mom or his mom and she was telling him on FaceTime what he's doing and she's crying behind me while I'm holding the door. Then I couldn't hold it no more cuz I was pinching my finger and he pulled it and he got in again and he kind of again pushed me out the way with his body like trying to get to her. >> That's that's a battery man. It's still a battery. >> And after he did that, you know, he's trying to get to her and telling her, "We're getting on this flight." He's walking down like there's a plane. I'm like, "Sir, there's not a plane there." >> But the plane had left. >> There's no there was never a plane. >> I was just trying to keep them secured. You know what I mean? He's like, "No, I'm I'm going to go on the flight on the plane. I'm going to go on the plane." I'm like, "Sir, there's no plane there." So he walked all the way down and when he saw there wasn't a plane, then he started walking up and I'm trying to calm him down like, "Sir, let me throw up here. You're going to go on the flight. Your family's going to go on the flight. Just hold on for a second." You know what I mean? As soon as he came out kind of heard, I don't know who showed up first. You showed up first and I got the family out when I saw you coming. I told him, "Come on. Come on. Come on." And she come that way. >> But he was coming from here when I saw him. >> Exactly. When he came out, when I opened the door and he came out, I saw you. You were coming. So then the family I told him to go this way like come on come on grab your stuff and go around. >> To restore order the man was temporarily separated from the situation. Limited cooperation required officials to take more assertive steps with the primary goal of reducing risk and maintaining safety for everyone present. >> Stay seated. >> Yes. >> I don't work for chips either. Relax. What the >> last? Fix your hands. >> No, he's the Marine. Are you a Marine? >> I'm a Marine. >> You're a Marine? >> Yeah. >> What's hard? What? What crew? >> What crew? >> Yeah. What do you been with? >> I was here for 20 years. It was a whole bunch. >> Yeah, I've been for about >> Let's start acting like one. >> All right. That's what I was doing. >> If you give me a water, I'll be fine. >> If you give me a water, I'll be fine. I got water, a cooler in my >> Don't kick that, please. Sir, >> water. >> Yes, sir. >> Just chill out. Go through this process and you put yourself in. >> Try that again, George. >> You made your bet here. >> Yes, I did. >> You got it. >> See this? >> You got it. >> The victim is sit still. >> What are you doing? >> He's got to pull him out. Where you going? >> Moving. >> I'm not moving. You're moving. >> You're moving. Stay still. >> I'm going to try to take these off from you. There you go. Just pull out. >> You want to sit down? >> If it's cooperative, we could double cup you, but you got to sit down. >> I'm asking you, man. I'm not trying to be sarcastic with you. >> Yeah, we don't want to hold you. >> I definitely want to be sit down. >> Okay. Chair right behind you. >> We're going to We're going to pull the chair right behind you. >> I just want to go home. >> Just bring him back to a fight. Yo, bring him back to the flight, bro. >> No, it's not going to happen, man. Just New York. Honor worker. >> Oh, man. You're kidding me, right? You couldn't even just let me go. >> There's no letting you go. Keep your hands on your step. >> I didn't even get my wife. >> Okay. >> On a different flight. >> Look, she's calling me right now. Take the phone out of my pocket. It's my wife. Don't worry about it. If they're not even going to let me go. What the >> Stacy? Don't ever grab me again. >> Hey, stop. >> He's trying to make sure you're not going to fall. >> I know. I'm not going to fall on my face. >> I know how to act. Give me the Give me that right now. Give me the phone. Listen to me. >> Give me the phone. >> You're under arrest. Give me the phone. >> Stop it. >> Act like a child. >> Give me the phone. >> Stacy the police. >> The fire department. >> You want to live or not? >> Give me the phone or die. >> Anybody? >> I think he can fill it out. >> From his home from New York. >> Please have a seat. Trying to help you. >> You're under arrest. understand how it works. >> Nobody's touching you right now. ID >> all he's getting. >> There we go. >> More than help. Help me. >> Stay down, sir. >> Stop. Hold on, man. >> Do not stand up. Do not stand up. >> In charge here, buddy. >> Help. >> Do not stand up. >> Just stay where you are. >> I'm trying to help the guy over here. >> You're not in any shape to help. >> Stay seated right now. All right. I'm not I'm not the guy for the word. >> Oh, I thought you said this. >> One way that they go on, sir. >> What does he want? >> Probably have to double. He's going to be We'll be cooperating. >> All right. Who's up to >> Are you going to cooperate? >> We're doing you a silent. Okay. We don't have to do this. Don't move. I will. Yeah. >> No, I will. >> We're going to do that. All right. We're going to put two on and make it real. I'm going to have to move, >> sir. If you try to run or do anything, it's going to escape. Okay. It's a felony. You do not want to do that. >> If you try anything, you're going to get tased. >> There you go. Relax. All right. >> There you go. Nice and >> There you go. There you go. There you go. You got the keys. Help them out. >> There you go. >> Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Lock it so it don't lock on you. >> Oh, easy. There you go. Now you got room, brother. >> All right. >> All right. >> As his emotional state gradually settled, the husband began responding more calmly and repeatedly asked to reunite with his wife and child. >> Once he got sorely into >> Well, I mean, the first one was easy. I mean, >> that's what I'm saying. 85. >> Yeah, he's ready to go. Go to landside. Let's go to work. >> I mean, he he don't need to go to interview room. I mean, he's he's done. >> Go to work. >> Come on. >> Yeah. Trying We're trying to expedite the process. >> Yeah. We got to go through the process. All right. Now, if he tells me to put you in there, that's like the sardine camp. >> I do not want to be in here. >> You got to go. Yeah. >> You know the family man who's got kids? >> He probably does have kids. >> Why are you going to take him out? >> Right. >> Why Why do you hate him so much? >> He's It's nothing personal for him. He doesn't want to be here. >> You don't none of us want to be here, man. Lunch time. >> Yeah, >> I know. It's lunch time. But now I'm going to be stuck in there for about 8 hours, right? >> The consequence early. Yeah. >> Hey, Mr. Ryan. >> What do you got? What do you got, buddy? >> This airside off. >> What they've done is they've issued you a trespass warning, which means you're not allowed here for the next year. Okay. For one year, you cannot return to this airport. When you come to fly home, you're going to need to use Sanford or Tampa airport. All right. >> One year. >> Yep. It's a year and a day and you come back to Disney. Come right through here. >> How much? Welcome back. >> Can you uncuff me, please? >> No, man. We can't do that. Hey, we'll let you chill. I I wanted to get on this on a flight. >> Tension slowly eased. The father came to recognize that boundaries had been crossed and acknowledged that losing emotional control led to decisions that deeply affected his family. >> Well, let me ask you this right here. You you said that you were drunk. I'm going to ask you a personal question. I This This is just me and you talking. Were you drunk or are you drunk? Do you have a problem? >> Both. >> Hey, honesty. I like it. >> Both. >> I like it. You know, and you know, this is not how to begin or end a vacation at all. Did you understand what the officers were there for? >> I never said I didn't. >> I'm But I'm asking you. I'm asking you. >> I understand what they're there for. Yeah. >> I understand what he's here for. >> Got it. >> And so is he. You're here for your family. Fix fix your problems here. >> I understand what you're here for. >> You know, >> and I love the military. I'm here for the military. So, >> and I appreciate that. But I'll do anything I can if I will. >> Oh, give me give me about 500 push-ups. I'll do it. >> Yeah. Well, like I say, why didn't you just comply with the officers? What they needed? >> Just my wife and her sister. But it's I would I would >> Yeah, >> 100%. >> Yeah, >> no problem. I'll comply with you. Whatever you say. >> Yeah. Well, it Hey, right now it right now it's all over with. It's done. Of course, you know, you got to go to jail. you know, we can't we can't change that. >> So, how long are we going to jail for? >> That's up that'll be up to the judge. You know, I mean, like I said, you're from out of state, that changes the bond. Your attitude will, you know, any past histories that you've got, you know, being cooperative from this point out, >> you can't let me go from here. >> Can't Sorry. Sorry. But, you know, that that ship sailed when you decided not to comply. >> I would have complied with any one of you. >> I know. You got tased. >> I don't want to get tased. I don't want to get, you know, >> nobody wants to take you one. We don't like you using this stuff. >> So, you can't help me out. >> There's no help in you, sir. >> Now, now everything's on you. Our job here is done. Our job is to come >> to the call to answer the call the crime that that was witnessed to try and investigate it, to try and give you an opportunity. >> But if you don't give it and you're going to resist, >> I'm not going to resist. I'm not resisting. But outside of that, our our stake in this is done. Getting you to the jail safely. After that, it will be between you, the judge, the courts, your wife, and your family. We have no personal stake in it. >> Can't help me at all. >> No. The only thing we can do is just wish you the best. We hold no ill will towards you at all. >> Please shut up. >> And most importantly, agree with you. We hope this is a wakeup call to your broken situation. >> Exactly. That's what I would like to say. >> Oh, right. I'm going to get in the car for you. >> Okay. And I'm going to make sure this location. >> Let's go ahead and get him, man. Is there anything else you need to tell? What's What's your name, buddy? >> Ryan awesome. >> Ryan, is there anything else you need to tell me? >> Yeah, I believe he's gone. >> Well, that's a good start. >> That's a good start. >> We're going to walk to the other side. All right. Right over here. Okay. >> Yet, realization often comes too [music] late. While it cannot change what has happened, it can open the door to reflection and growth moving forward. >> All right. Ryan, you listen to us when we tell you how to get in this car cuz you're a big guy. >> Yeah. >> All right. Look at me. Face me. I'm a big guy. You're a big guy. You're bigger than me. So, watch your head. Okay. >> There you go. >> All right. Now, see if you can kind of kick in. >> Scoot yourself back over. >> There you go. We're going to turn on the AC for you. Okay. >> Love you. >> All right. >> Thank you. >> Sorry. I was drunk before, man. >> I got you. I got you. >> All right. All that. >> What are we doing after this? So, right now, um, this officer right here is going to transport you to the Orange County Booking and Receiving Center. Okay. That's our county jail. Okay. They're going to process it. That's >> all right. Sit up. >> Yeah. You should be available for um uh Just Watch your head. >> Um the >> Yeah. So, the bond is going to be on your um affidavit. Okay. >> So, how much are we looking at? >> You want to put the seat belt back on or it's up to you. You want to see about honor it or not? >> No, don't worry about it. >> He don't want it. >> When I But what's the uh bond I'm looking at? >> Yeah. So, when he writes in the charges, he'll know when you get there. Okay. The only thing is it's going to be double because you're out of state. All right. So, the bond will be double for whatever charges uh that are going to be on that affidavit. >> Now, you're going to pay to get back to the airport. >> But you can't come back here for a year. Remember, >> I got to fly out of here. >> No, you're going to have to find another place to fly out of either Sanford or Tampa. Okay. You can't fly out of here. You you you can't come here for another year. Okay. You've been trespassed. You understand? >> So, I got a trespassing ticket. >> You got it's a trespass warning, which means you you've been warned. >> All right. All right. All right. >> You got it. Okay. >> All right. >> The man was charged with resisting an officer with violence, child abuse, domestic violence, and disorderly intoxication. Under Florida law, he could face up to 11 years in prison along with fines totaling $11,000. This case offers a human- centered reminder. Maintaining calm, managing [music] emotions, and seeking support early are not just personal skills. They remain some of the most effective ways to protect the people we care about most. Sometimes cross boundaries do not come from bad intentions, but emerge when children push back while adults are overwhelmed by responsibility and life pressures. >> He knows I Bro, I'm the only one that's handling everything. The bills, the kids, the cleaning, the dogs, the children. On August 14th, 2025, a young [music] girl worried about her own safety and that of her younger sibling reached out to emergency services for [music] assistance. Based on her account, officers understood that the household often experienced tense moments and unregulated reactions to everyday [music] situations. Authorities responded promptly, listened carefully, and checked on the children's well-being. >> You all right? >> Are you all right? >> Yeah. My mom just ran. She drove away in her truck. I don't know where she >> Okay. Let me pull over. I'll talk to you. Okay. >> What's going on? >> Um me and my mom get in argument squad. She live together. >> Yeah. She has like borderline personality disorder. She's like mentally ill. She gets physical sometimes. And um today we were arguing about my baby brother because I didn't want to. I woke up and she made me take him to the bathroom and I didn't want to do so. I had a bit of an attitude and I kept I was standing my ground because she gets like angry and she keeps screaming at me and I just wouldn't stop. I just kept standing my ground and saying like like no it's not right that you're screaming at me like this. I don't care how mad you are. Like don't do this. And then she started like grabbing my hair and shoving me. But she does that a lot. So, I was like, "Whatever." Until um until I don't know. I don't even remember what I said, but I guess it made her so mad that she like grabbed me by my neck and she grabbed my face and my neck and pushed me down onto my bed. >> Did you lose consciousness at any time or anything? >> No. It freaked me out really bad. So, I just kind of froze. >> Was she like holding your neck or did she use her hands to push you away? Yeah, she she was holding my neck and she pushed me and she had a grip of it, but I started I like her arms off of me and >> she squeezing your neck. >> Yeah, I don't think there's any marks. She wasn't squeezing it really hard. But but she's never like started me before cuz she started me but she's never done anything to like actually do it. >> I've got some redness. >> I'm going to have EMS check you out. Okay. >> Um, how old are you? >> 18. >> And mom's had this issue for a very long time, I assume. And she's always been physical with us and she's my brother before. >> How old is your brother? >> He's 16, but she's never gone physical with the baby, but every time it's something about him, she gets physical. >> How old is the baby? >> He's three. >> Dad or what's the deal with that? >> No, technically this whatever he's like this is a bunch of [ __ ] with him, but I don't care. I hate her boyfriend. He's um he's in the picture. Do you have any march anywhere else? No, I don't think so. What are you looking to do here? >> Um, I don't know. I just I don't feel safe here. Um, and I don't I don't have anywhere else to go. So, I I didn't know. I tried to call my family, but none of them picked up. And so, I just thought calling the cops would be better. >> No. Yeah, you did. >> And she me out. I'm like, I'm scared. I'm scared of what she'll do if I come back after. >> And you live here, right? >> Yeah. cuz she she like refuses to talk to a counselor and every time she does >> she only chooses the one that further her delusion and make it worse because in her head it's okay because she's mad and I signed up for it for making her mad. >> Mom took off. Uh she kind of has like a little thread on her neck said mom strangler has a history of doing that borderline personality disorder. I like what she wants to just like that. >> During a brief conversation [music] with the mother, officers identified three key contributing factors, prolonged work-related stress, [music] the demands of caregiving, and unresolved family tensions. >> Hello. >> Hi. Is this Ashley? >> Yes. >> Hi, Ashley. It's Sergeant Fors from the Akran Police Department. How you doing? >> Not so. >> All right. Can you tell me what's going on here today? Or do you mind coming back over here so we can talk in person? >> I don't want to come back over there cuz I know I'm about to get arrested. I'm not stupid. I know how works. I'm not an idiot. But that girl be antagonizing, bro. She talks hella crazy. She talks hell of And then she want to sit here and act like she's all comic, >> but then want to talk [ __ ] under the side. Like, I'm not paying all your bills. Like I'm not sitting here stressed, but I work over 40 hours a week and I still got to raise a three-year-old baby. I got to deal with a drunking boyfriend all the time. She knows what the I'm dealing with. So when I ask her to go get her brother to the bathroom, it shouldn't be aing fight. She knows I Bro, I'm the only one that's handling everything. The bills, the kids, the cleaning, the dogs, the children. She knows. And for her to sit there and disrespect me and talk reckless to me, like I I and I try to tell her like I'm I've really been trying to work on my self-control, bro, for years. And she knows that. She knows my struggle. She's the only one, but she's the only one that knows how to say what she says to get under my skin. When I tell you I'm going to smack the out of your mouth, bro. I'm going to snap the out of your mouth and take whatever. That's really all it was over is because she coped the attitude and then she started throwing accusations talking about you following me around the house. She going to make it seem like I some over dramatized but I really just gripped her face and pushed her back. Like that was it. But I know that's wrong and I know it's wrong. So if I got to come back and deal with that, I will. But like I can't be that parent that kicks a kid out on the street and what if what if something happens and she like herself like a little a little in the face is nothing could be so like I can't have that. >> I think that you've got to remember too. I mean you've got to be careful and I'm just telling you the truth here cuz it sounds like you've been pretty honest with me. So I hope you appreciate this coming back from my side of things. >> Oh I know. I'm not a liar. I respect that. Like you putting her hand your hands on her neck and her like that. I mean, you could really her. >> I grabbed her jaw. She got a jaw, bro. You could look at her. She got a jaw. I grabbed her jaw. I did not grab her neck at all whatsoever. On my soul, I didn't. >> But are you able to come back over here so we can talk this out and get your information and do what we need to do? >> Yeah. >> All right. Thank you, Miss Morris. I appreciate it. As officials considered a temporary alternative care arrangement, challenges arose when some relatives were hesitant to cooperate [music] in identifying a suitable guardian. >> So, I talked to mom on the phone. She admitted to what she did. So, our hands are kind of tied at this point as far as being able to have any discretion on pressing charges. Okay. So, what that means is we're going to have to arrest mom. Um, I can't leave her in this situation knowing that she just admitted to me that she put her hands on you and did she make any to you or anything like that? She did. What did she say? >> She told me that she was going to she said she was going to me so my ears were and then she threw him. >> Okay. Okay. So, just give me a second. Just stand by cuz we've got some paper excuse me paperwork to do stuff. Okay. >> All right. You wanted to get your brother. >> My mom's boyfriend was up there yelling stuff down at me. >> I know. I heard. >> Just want to let you know my doors are locked. Welcome to get what she would like, but you guys are not welcome in my house, sir. >> Oh, she lives here. And I will be coming in to get the kids. >> My doors are locked. >> Well, you better unlock them. >> Coming in to do what? >> To get the kids. >> To get my son. >> To get the kids? Yes. >> You're not taking my son? >> I am. >> Why? >> If you refuse, then I'm going to arrest you for obstruction. Send you as well. >> My son. My son has nothing to do with this. >> It does. There's procedures for it. Why don't you come on down? We'll talk man to man. >> I'm not letting you take my son. >> Then you're going to go to jail. >> Doors are locked. If you come into my house, >> it sounds like you're going to end up with a broken down door. You can come on down. >> You don't have a search warrant. I don't need my son. >> You're obstructing. >> I don't care, man. My son is a 2-year-old and he did nothing. He's a three-year-old. He did nothing to you. >> If you come on down, we'll have a discussion. >> You're not trying to discuss. You just told me you're taking my son. >> I I have to get CSP involved. >> My son doesn't need to be taken. I am his >> it doesn't it does not mean that he's not going to stay here but CSP here >> if you refuse to come down and talk then I'm just going to arrest you for obstruction >> I'm arresting you for obstruction then >> you're already going to try to take my son >> if you come if listen if you come down here >> do this with myself >> come down and I will explain everything >> already dude >> I'm not going to stand here and scream >> I'm barricaded in my room you're not coming in my room get her stuff out my my doors loaded you don't have a search war from my house you have rights to get her stuff out. You're not taking my son. >> You're not going to tell me how I'm going to do my job. Then you're going to jail for obstruction. >> It's between her and her daughter, not my son, bro. >> So, do listen. Take some breaths and listen to me. >> Hey, I'm just letting you know this guy's probably going to go for obstruction >> because Ohio's a mother state. We got to get CSB involved. But if you come down and if you listen to me, stop talking. If you come down and cooperate, CSB will possibly leave the child here. Mom, you're trying to take Deon. >> No, we're not. >> Take Deanette, dude. >> No, >> you need to leave work and come here now. You tell them you got to leave work and come here now. Trying to bust my door down and tell me they're going to come here. >> We're trying to get you where you want to be, man. >> We're trying to get you to work. >> Listen, I'm going to work. I'm going to work right now. >> Take my three-year-old son from stick because of her. >> Nope. You don't want to listen. >> You're my problem. In my house, dude. You don't even know what's going on. Get your emotions checked. Quit screaming and crying and we'll explain it to you. Start asking your age. >> Hey, what's mom's phone number? >> Are you the mom of the child? >> No. >> No. >> I'm the aunt. >> Your aunt? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, >> I'm aunt and grandma's on the way as well. >> Okay. >> Cuz baby should not be involved in any [ __ ] That's why we're here. >> So, because of the type of the of incident that happened, we'd have to have CSP. >> You're kidding. >> I'm not. Is Ashley your mom? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Ashley's Devon's mom. Everybody's mom. Where's Ashley? >> She left. >> Okay. So, >> the arrival of the mother's sister helped reassure officers about the children's [music] safety, allowing necessary steps to continue. >> They're about to rescue. >> I know. >> I know. >> Place stuff on this. >> My mom and my dad's on their way, bro. >> Place your hands behind your back. >> Put your palms together. >> Can you grab my money and give it to him so he can be >> We'll deal with all that in a minute. Okay. >> You got You got to come get this money. >> What I need you to do is I need you to tell him he needs to calm down. The money is in my pocket. My phone's in here. I don't want nothing. You need to do whatever they need to do, Deon. Do the right thing with our baby, bro. >> You need to do the right thing with our baby, bro. >> Do you have anything on you that's going to stick? >> Can you explain to him that if he cooperates, >> there's a chance the child might stay here? >> You want that money out of your pocket? >> He keeps acting like this. >> Kevin, you need to calm down, man. Yes, you can. He's not going to listen to me, dude. >> Increasing likelihood children get removed from the home. >> Fine, Debbie, calm down. >> What's he yawning? >> He's not on anything. >> He acts like this all the time. >> When we try to take away our kids, bro, we're good parents. >> I'm not saying you're not. >> All right. So, look, because of the situation, we have to have CSB involved. Okay? All he's doing is one, working himself into getting arrested and two, increasing the likelihood that CSB doesn't place the kids back here. >> So, can I just talk to him? You guys just got to let me talk him down. >> I can't. I have you in custody, dear. I cannot. >> He's not going to listen to nobody. >> If he's willing to come down and stand at this window and talk to you, I'm absolutely okay with that. >> But what about the baby? We don't want the baby taken away. He's didn't do anything wrong. >> I understand that. But there's been actions that led us to this point. I'm not just coming in trying to take kids pe people's kids away from them. I'm a I'm a product of that. I've been in that situation. So, I know what it's like and I don't ever want to have to put another child in that situation. But sometimes my job dictates me to do that. >> Is this his mom pulling up in this red car? >> I think that's our friend Eric. Oh, yeah. That's his mom. >> Okay. >> Yes. >> Yes. >> All [clears throat] required procedures and [music] the child's placement were completed before the mother was escorted to the station. At that time, some relatives remained emotionally strained, reflecting confusion and [music] concern over the sudden changes. >> You're his mom, correct? >> Yes. >> We have to have CSP involved. >> Okay. There's no if, and or but about it. It's going to happen. Now, his behavior is going to dictate a lot whether or not the children get removed from the home and if he goes to jail cuz right now he's obstructing. >> Okay? >> So, all of that's going to play a part in this. So, if you're able to talk, if you're able to talk to Don't let me see >> if >> and then if he starts making throw I am going to send him to jail. >> So I just I I just had enough of the sleep for her mouth and that's why I grabbed the jaw and I just to shut up. >> That's your son. Okay. >> I don't want him to close. >> I got you. How close it >> How you doing little man? >> How you doing little man? Hey, >> I don't care if kids in the car, but obviously car pull off, >> right? No, no, no. I'm fine with that. I just >> What is she? >> So, we have we have all the kids accounted for now. >> Thank you. There's a 15 or 16 year old. >> Yeah, but that's at school though, right? >> Yeah, we >> She was just on the phone with them. They said >> she said that she was on the phone with the school and the school wasn't sure where he was at. >> Wait, the school doesn't know where? >> That's what she had just said to her. >> Did you guys already call CSV? No, cuz we've been trying to deal with this and then we had all sorts of people showing up. >> I would say one of you just start calling CSB. Let's get the ball rolling. >> I call I try to call every single family. >> So, you go away and we go home. >> That's the thing. She kicked me out of the house. >> Let's not argue about this. >> Hey, my mom. >> Let's not argue about this right now. Come on. Let's go. Let's go. >> Why am I the bad guy? I got by my own mom. >> I'm sorry. I don't give a >> Your mom wants to talk. >> That'sing crazy. All right. I don't want you. >> Can you unlock real quick? >> I promise as soon as I'm out, I'll figure out my job situation. I'll figure this out. But Janette is not coming back. Okay. And I still love Janette and I'm still going to protect Janette and I'm going to still hold Janette down even though she calls the cops on me because I'm a better person. So don't you be angry. I'm fighting with your sister. Okay. >> Nothing but scream and cry out that window. >> Of course. >> Like a manchild. >> Is he pissed at them or us? >> He hates cops. Well, y'all about to be called out when I get out. I'm about to the out of this dude, bro. I'm about to the I'm about to him, bro. Soon as I get out, I'm going toing him. >> We go now. >> Um, I'm good here. We're pulling off. >> The mother was charged with domestic violence. Under Ohio law, she could face up to 6 months in prison. When adults reach out for support in time, children do not have to step forward in moments of adult exhaustion, [music] and difficult situations can be addressed before long-term consequences take shape. She was stopped over merchandise valued at $270, but the situation became more complicated due to inconsistent explanations. >> You walked out of the store without paying for items. >> I did not walk out. >> Okay. >> I did not go outside. I was not outside. A call brought Ocala police to a Walmart where a mother accompanied by two young children had completed payment for some items but attempted to exit with others. When store staff intervened, she became uncooperative and repeatedly debated whether she had fully left the store. Tiana is detained. Okay. The reason why is because she shoplifted from Walmart. Um she went in with her and the two kids. She paid for about $25 worth of like groceries and stuff, but she tried leaving with about $300 of unpaid items. So, um, whenever we showed up here, they gave us a description of the vehicle. They gave us a description of her. We've obviously located her right here, which is just within a very short distance of Walmart. And since then, she's been less than cooperative with us. Um, but she was wanting for uh her kids if in the very least if you would be able to take her children for and stuff like that. >> Can I get the kids? >> Yeah, we'll make sure that you get the kids and stuff like that and get everything taken care of. >> What did you do that for? I got money, right? >> You know, I'm I'm an insurance broker. I make over $100,000 a year. I got money. >> You know, I I honestly don't know. Do me a favor. What we would like for you to do is I think that the kids will probably be calm enough with us. What we can do is we can just have her step out. We can take care of stuff away from the kids, okay? Because we don't want them seeing all of this that's going on. She does have to go in handcuffs. She does have to be padded down, go in a vehicle and stuff like that. We'll let you come in and start taking care of the kids and stuff, right? And then >> my car here, >> huh? >> My car here. >> Yeah, we'll figure that out. So, I don't think the vehicle is registered to her. We'll get that stuff lined out, but let us get this squared away and then we'll either decide if the kids need to come to your car or if you're taking hers or what what's going on exactly. Okay, >> go over there, right? >> Just wait until I come back and let you know and then we'll we'll let you know. Okay. >> Although the mother denied any intent to do wrong, officers temporarily held her to clarify the situation while remaining attentive to the children's safety and emotional state. Kiana, does that sound right? Kiana >> Tiana. Kiana. >> Tiana. >> Tiana. I'm sorry. The cars I can't hear. That's my issue and stuff. So, I just talked to you. Mom, here's the deal. We're going to try to be as respectful as possible with you and your family here because these are your kids, right? >> Okay. What we would like, if possible, and if you will agree with it, is we would like for you to turn off the car and step out and walk back here with us. That way, we don't do anything in front of the kids and we don't have any issues. Is that okay? >> Are you good with agreeing with that? All right. >> How long am I? She said I was detained. How long am I detained? >> Well, right now you're under going to be under arrest. So that's why you're getting out of the car. >> I didn't steal anything. >> Okay. Well, we're going to figure that out. >> But then by that time, it may be too late if I if I get >> It's not an option at this point. >> Well, Tiana, here's the deal. I've watched all the video. By Florida state statute, you walked out of the store without paying for items. >> I did not walk out. >> Okay. >> I did not go outside outside. I was not outside. >> Okay. You passed all points of sale. That's what that means. Tanya, this officer wants to ask you some more questions whenever we get done with this. Okay. >> Soon as we get these in and you're secured in the back of my car, I'm going to have your mom go up there with the kids. Okay. >> Okay. Have a seat. >> My windows are Everything's unlocked if you need to. >> You're fine with the car here. She's been obviously good with us. If you want to go sit with the kids and stuff, just don't leave yet cuz we do have our car up there in front of it anyway. >> And then my sister going to come and move the cars if that's okay or what's going to happen with the car. >> Well, we got to talk to her and figure out exactly who the car belongs to and who gets permission and stuff like that. >> Somebody else. >> Yeah, that's what we're working on. Start off with the kids. Yeah, let's start off with the grandbabies and then we'll go from there. Okay. >> Coming. >> During the interaction, the mother was given the opportunity to share her perspective. However, her explanation did not match available store records and transaction details, making it difficult to reach a clear understanding. >> Here's the thing. >> We have you on video stealing. We have the proof. I don't need you to tell me you did or not. You can be upfront and be honest and tell me, but that's up to you. Cuz what's going to happen here is essentially I'm going to take you to jail. So, here's here's the deal, Tiana. What we would like is for you to tell us your version of the story. >> Yeah, by all means. >> Sorry. My man got to come get his car. >> Don't make no goddamn sense. >> Would you like to tell us your side of the story? >> Yeah. Um, well, I went back to the They accused me. I came in there. I went back to the uh register. I checked my gift card. Um a woman helped me in the front. Yeah. A woman helped me in the front. I checked my gift card and then I returned something and then I left. >> Okay. >> I try to leave. >> Let's let's start back from that. Okay. When did you come when did you decide to come to Walmart? Was it this morning? This afternoon was the spur of the moment. >> I was coming from the villages. So, um I mean I just need to stop by. >> Okay. Where do you live at? >> I live in the villages as well. >> You live in the villages. Coming from the villages. Live in the villages. And you came here to this Walmart. >> Yeah, because I was getting ready to have a gathering. >> Like a family gathering? Mhm. >> Okay. All right. So, you stopped by Walmart do some grocery shopping, right? >> Mhm. I got I got like a few things. Yeah. >> Got a few things. What was a few things? >> Um what was the stuff? >> Uh peanut butter, >> bread, peanut butter. I got some juice and um some chips for the kids. Okay. About how much was all of that? >> Roughly about maybe a little bucks. >> 40 bucks might be a rough estimate or something like that. >> Okay. You had about $40 worth of stuff. You went through selfcan or did you go through with a person? >> Um both. >> Well, okay. In the beginning, which one did you go through first? >> Scan it in. >> Selfcan first. Okay. So, you you got the stuff, right? And then you went to what? customer service or like a normal >> uh customer service. >> Customer service. >> The machine the lady came over here with the machine but it wasn't >> wasn't functioning. >> So you did that and then you tried to leave, right? >> Cuz you were done. >> You went to the doors. >> No, I went to the customer service >> after after customer service. You check your you return an item, you check your gift card balances and stuff like that and you walk out. You and your two kids from this Walmart. You got stopped inside the vestibule past all points of sale by a large man in a gray shirt that identified himself as asset protection, right? >> Mhm. >> Okay. So, you followed him? >> No, I didn't. >> Didn't what? >> I didn't follow him. >> You didn't follow him? >> No. >> Okay. Did you follow somebody else? >> Yeah. This woman, I kept asking her like, "What's the problem?" And she wouldn't tell me. So, >> wouldn't tell you. >> After a while, I said I'm You're not going to tell me what's the problem. Then they said, "Yeah, just come with me." And I said, "I'm not coming with you anywhere." >> Okay. >> I said, "I'm not coming with you anywhere." >> Mhm. >> And then I walked out the door. >> And then you walked out the door. >> Okay. What about the items that you paid for? >> Did you What' you do with them? >> I didn't even I didn't even bring it with me cuz I said I want my money back. >> Okay. You You said you want your money back. Who was you telling you want your money back to? >> Oh, to the customer service lady. >> And then >> when was that? >> That was after while speaking to the man and he's like, "I don't want to embarrass you." And I said, "Look, just just give me just give me back my money. If you're going to, you know, accuse me, just, you know, just give me back my money." >> Have you Miranda? Did you Miranda? >> Okay. So, >> yeah. Ask him. Just give me back. >> Okay. All right. >> So, it it it your story's starting to fall apart here. Who on earth goes into the store? Hear me out. Who on earth goes into the store, does that, goes back up and is following this, you know, an employee, and then tells customer service, "Hey, I want my money back." but then just leaves without getting their money or taking the items that they paid for. I do a lot of grocery shopping. McCullum, you do a lot of grocery shopping. I've never had that happen. Have you? Okay. >> He stated he stated I wasn't gonna get my money back. So, I said, "Okay, if you're not going to give me my money back, I'll just do a dispute." >> Okay, >> that's what I stated. >> So, let me ask you this. While you were loading your shopping cart full of items, and you only paid for approximately $25 worth with supposedly a gift card, I believe is what it was. Or was it What kind of card did you pay with it for? >> A gift card. Yeah. gift card and some looked like cash. >> Okay. Some was gift card, some was cash. All right. So, kind of a combo deal. >> Before y'all go on, do you actually have a driver's license? >> Yes or no? Cuz I just ran I just ran you. So, yes or no? >> I don't. >> Do you or don't you? >> I don't have it. >> No. Do you actually have one period? >> Oh, no, man. I don't have it. >> Oh, no wonder why you don't have it. >> Okay. >> 26. Thank you. >> All right. >> Here's the deal. At this point, we're done anyways cuz you ain't done nothing but lie. Like I asked you about your ID, I asked you about the car, asked you if you went to Walmart. Every single thing you said, it doesn't matter because we have it on video at this point. >> I cannot steal anything. He accused me of stealing and I told him I didn't steal anything from him and I told him, "Hey, if that let me just get a refund." That's what I and he said, you know, you cannot get a refund. >> Okay, so here's the deal. You loaded up approximately $295 worth of merchandise in your cart. You tried to pay for $25. You tried to walk out with $270.99 worth of unpaid merchandise. I have the itemized receipt. We do have it on video. You passed all points of sale without paying for it or attempting to pay for it at that given point, which means that at this point you've committed a retail theft, which means that you are going to be going to jail today. Okay. >> With the total value of the unpaid items exceeding $270, the situation moved into a formal review process under store and local guidelines. >> Hey, is everybody calm down a little bit? Okay. >> Hey, baby boy. Right. Baby boy. >> Baby boy. Yeah. >> Baby boy. Hey buddy. Look at your little mohawk man. You got some wild hair, don't you? >> I know. It's trying to grow in. >> I know. Um, so here's the deal. >> Do what? >> No. >> I'm going to get you to verify your daughter's information and stuff really quickly cuz there's a lot of times that she's telling us no, even though we've seen it on video. Unfortunate part is she [music] had the kids with her whenever this happened and it could have easily been avoidable. It sounds like sounds like you had she called you and said, "Hey, we need this." You would have helped her out or something. >> I could have got $300 right now. Not right cash, but got >> you could have easily helped pay if you needed to. Or something along those lines. I do believe that she is going to have to go to jail today. >> Okay. I I wish that we didn't have to. However, I mean, she literally ran away from the asset employees, so she ran from Walmart. She's less than compliant with us the whole entire time. We've tried to explain to her, hey, look, this is what's going on. We're just trying to do our job and stuff. >> As officers continue checking vehicle related information, inconsistencies and certain personal details emerge, extending the [music] process and adding further pressure to the situation. >> Who does the car belong to? Is it Kayana? Kiana. >> Kiana. >> That's who the car owner is, right? >> Kion. No, that's that's her. Kion Spear. >> What did you tell her your name was? >> Kiana Spear. I'm the registered owner of the vehicle. >> Okay. >> This is her. >> Yeah. This you're Kiana Spear. >> Yes. >> Kion Spear. Okay. And the the vehicle isn't registered to you or owned by you, is it? Oh, it is. >> Okay. >> You do realize that's an additional charge. You gave me a false identity. >> What' you say her name was? >> Tiana something. Thank you. >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah. At this point, Kayana Kiana, however you pronounce it, I'm sorry. Either way, um, so at this point, our hands are tied. We, even if there was a chance that we could have given you what's called a notice to appear, which is ultimately what we would have probably done in this situation since you had your two kids with you, had you been stopped, you know, pretty compliant with us and stuff. Um, you would be given just a court date. As a matter of fact, you would still be able to, you know, probably go to Walmart and do everything else that you needed to do and it wouldn't have been a big deal. But, you know, false name to law enforcement officers whenever you're legally detained, like Officer McCollum here explained to you. Um, it's not it's not a fault name. Yes, it was. It was actually It was actually in my name before. It's not a fault name. >> But it's not your legal name now. >> So, whatever your name was before, I understand that. But providing that name now is a false name because that's not your legal name anymore. We're going to let mom take care of the kids. Is that okay? >> Please. >> That's what you Okay. And the car belongs to you? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you want mom to try to move it out of the way if we'll allow? I'm going to have the other officer is the one that's working this case. So, it's her choice. Okay. But if we can, I'll I'll let her know. Okay. >> So, cuz if not, what's going to happen is it's just going to be towed. I can't smell, so I didn't know he pooped, but he was busting in the car. >> Okay. >> Unfortunately, those excuses only made the story more contradictory and confusing, complicating the situation further. >> But Janelle was supposed to be there with the kids the entire time. You called her and said, "Hey, I'm here." >> Yes. And then I realized she pooped and I said, "I'll take him." >> But then she came up before you came back down >> and she was up there for 45 minutes >> or probably. Yeah. >> While your kids, your three daughters are down here unsupervised. >> I checked out I checked out the thing. I could see them out out there while I was changing him and then I was trying to hurry up and get the stuff in this bag. I'm back >> cuz the person who flagged the lifeguard down said that they were in the water by themselves. >> In the water. >> In the water. >> I saw them by the shoreline. >> Yeah. At one point they were in the water. I don't know. >> This right here >> in the green area of the water >> like right there where they are right now. >> Where are they at? No, they were >> they were farther out. Oh, yeah. Yeah. See, I told them not to go that far. I'm sorry. >> And she said the currents pushing west and I told them not to go that. That's No, I told them to >> Yeah. So, they were >> I understand. Yeah. >> I guess they went in kind of where straight where we're at now. But then they were getting pushed in. >> Yeah. That's your kids right there in the in the bank. >> Right there. See, this is as far as I told them they could go. This is as far I told them go farther than your legs. >> I don't know exactly how far out they were, but even that's way too far. We didn't catch her driving cuz her license is suspended. Judging by that you said, "Yeah, we met at the car and I know you went to Walmart. I'm telling you right now, I catch you driving to jail." >> So, she says she got back at 12. She went to Walmart, did the Walmart pickup. Janelle said, "I'm going to stay here and I'm going to watch the kids." >> So, she gets back. She called Janelle says, "Hey, I'm here with the I'm here with the groceries." And she says she was thinking that they were going to swap out. Janelle was going to take care of the groceries. She was going to come back down, but they weren't going to leave the kids alone. >> No, we weren't. And anyway, Janelle decides to come up and says, "Hey, it smells like your son's gift." >> She told me when when I was getting out the car that it smelled like he pooped because I can't smell. >> She said she got back around 12:08 cuz that's what time she called Janelle. >> Why? When she got topside to help you at the car, >> I was supposed to come down here. >> But she's dealing with her 2-year-old >> the diaper. >> No one thought, "Hey, who's watching the kids?" >> She was supposed to come back. I thought she's been here lots of times. So, I thought >> Janelle has been. >> Yeah. The rules are and stuff. Well, it's it's not the rules specifically about anything. It's the common sense. >> Oh, yeah. The water. Yeah. And I know you don't >> I don't I don't know how far >> classified as child neglect. >> Yeah. >> If you went uh if you took your kids to the pool and you left your kids at the pool, what would happen there? She says her kids are have had swimming lessons in for in a pool a pool setting, but not in open water. >> How long were they left alone total? >> Close to 40 minutes, sounds like. At least we're not missing anybody. We're not out there pulling bodies out of the from the bottom >> because Beach and Surf already rounding them all up for us, >> right? >> The police continued gathering additional information from the parents involved. >> How long do you think they were in the water for? >> Over a half hour. >> How far out do you think they were? >> Oh god. >> Further than this kid right here, >> the one in the ponies. Y >> they are whales >> way out there. Oh, you see where those two are at right there? >> Uh >> closer. >> Quite that far, but pretty. >> So 50 ft. >> Yep. The little one. in her shirt, in her tube, and he just kept floating and floating. And I went over and I said, "Hey buddy, why don't you come back over by our siblings?" I said, "Where's your mom?" He goes, "Well, she went to get food and we kept floating up here." And I'm thinking, "Okay, she's at the bar." And then we brought him back over and then he just kept going. But then he got lost. Came up on the beach and he didn't know where his stuff was. And I and I saw him wandering. >> That shark inner tube right there. >> Yeah. And I saw him wandering and I'm like, "Hey, come over here." And I introduced myself and I'm like, I don't want you to get hurt. Where's your mom? Well, then the older siblings came out. We talked to all of them. And I go, who's the oldest? And the the bigger girl. He's like, I'm sad. I go, honey, you're too young to be watching. This is not like nobody's paying attention. >> Yeah. At least you guys were paying attention to them. And we're not looking for six kids in the water right now. >> Right. Well, the little ones down here right now. They're all over here. >> The little guy. Where's >> He's right here. Look at him. >> Where's Where's Where's she at right now? >> Yeah, right here. And they're all over here. Are you kidding me? He's just running. >> I think you need a leash for your kids, ma'am. >> Without delay, the police made their final decision, concluding the investigation phase with clear directions for action. >> One lady's going to get charged with >> Okay. >> which is a felony. >> Y I guess I'll put her in my car. >> Miss Janelle, can you put some shoes on and a shirt? We're going to go have a talk up here. We're going to talk with her for a little bit. Okay. She is going to be coming with us. Okay. >> She'll be able to call you when she's ready to get out. >> That is being a great citizen. By the way, you know what? That way everybody else knows what's going on. That they know that we're out here and we have a zero tolerance. Okay. I don't normally like to do that in front of the kids, but you want to start your mouth. >> I want to say goodbye to my kid. >> I get it. And I don't blame you. >> You got everything you're gonna need? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> You can come and talk at the truck. Let's go. >> Phone's in her left front pocket there. >> I'm just going to sit up there with me. Sit down. Are you completely okay with letting her take care of your children or do we need to have them DC up to come in? >> No, she you're comfortable letting her take care of your kids. >> Yeah. >> She lives. The mother identified as Janil was taken into custody and booked into jail on charges of child. Under Florida law, if convicted, she could face a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison or probation, along with fines of up to $5,000. Beaches carry risks like strong waves and rip currents, which can quickly overwhelm children if adults are not nearby. The beach story was already concerning, but in New Mexico, another situation highlighted the even more. >> Can I dare to hear you? Yes, it's playful. Yes, I don't give a >> On June 24th, 2024, Dona Anna County police in New Mexico received an urgent call about a 4-month-old left in a hot car outside a Family Dollar with no air conditioning. They quickly arrived as witnesses recounted the incident. >> Okay, >> she's going to come outside. >> Okay, what happened? >> So, April, she used to be one of our residents. We got her evicted and then Linda felt bad because she's homeless right now with the baby and sometimes we take care of the baby. So Linda said you can stay at the house. Don't do drugs. Stay with the baby. Be a mom. For sure. The first night she stayed out till 5:00 cuz we had the baby. Yesterday she slept all day. And then today the baby was crying on the little chair cuz she was wet. And so we told her, "Come get your baby, change her." So we could hear her screaming from the kitchen and then we're baking. >> I acted like I was going to the bathroom. I didn't hear the baby. And then I heard her like scream. So I walked in there. She had the baby like this and threw it on the bed. And then so I told her I was like, "Let me have the baby." I was like, "Obviously you're >> just till she calms down, you know, >> whatever." And she's like, "No, no, you're not getting my baby." So I went to go grab her and she's like, "No." And she's like, "I'ming leaving." And then Linda and Rachel went in there. And then I >> That's when Rachel went reached for the baby and said, "Let me just have the baby." And just to calm her down the situation, >> grab her from this side, swing her across to the other side. [clears throat] >> Yeah. I held her hands down and I said, "Just calm down. Let them calm the baby down." cuz baby was screaming. >> Oh yeah. >> And I said, "Just calm down." And she goes, "I'm the out of here." And I told her, "You need to calm down." She told me something like, "You or something." I told her, "You're lucky I don't you right now." I was holding her hands down, telling her, "Just calm down." She goes, "I'm the out of here." And I said, "You want out of here." I started grabbing her bags and I threw them out on my porch. I said, "Then get the out of here." I said, "Because the deal was she took care of the baby. >> Stay sober." Cuz yeah, I' I've dealt with April a couple times. >> So Friday night, they told her, "You know what? you get rest because of everything that happened Friday will kick the baby >> from the heat for being out there in 2 hours in the heat that her dad left me >> they took the baby I told her take a shower and you can calm down relax tonight they have the baby sheing calls for a ride and that was my first rule don't bring any crackhead to my house so I don't know where she met him but she left came back Saturday morning at 5:00 in the morning >> oh my gosh okay >> and I was like you were supposed to get rest >> not be out probably getting pregnant again and I told her you can't keep your [ __ ] kids. I said I said you need to take care of what you have now. I said and be a good mother. I said right now you're not being a [ __ ] good mother. I said you're being aing crackhead. So that's why she told everybody they told me I'm no good and that I'm a piece of [ __ ] And I was like you could read between the lines. Obviously I don't have to tell you directly but hey when she started I'm out of here and I was like well I can't keep the baby but they calm the baby down. They raise the baby every 4 days they have the baby. >> How old is the baby? >> 5 months. >> Five months. Okay. So her older one got taken away. I'm assuming >> this is her sixth kid and she has no custody besides this one which she gave me the insurance card. I have her social. The only thing I don't have of the babies is the birth certificate because she can't find it. >> Right. This officer, she's in training. She's going to get you guys' name and basic information. Cool. >> Shortly after, police approached the mother. Miranda writes were red and she began speaking about major losses in her life. This >> officer Bunnian, um, we just have to ask you a couple. You can stay sitting if you want. >> Okay. >> Yeah, you can stay seated. Just going to go ahead and verandize you. Okay. All right. We are investigating a fight. Why am I being Miranda when I was the one who had hands put on me? >> I can't ask you questions unless you understand your Miranda. Doesn't mean you're going to jail. I just have to ask you other questions. Do you understand your rights? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you want to talk to us? >> Yeah. >> Okay. What happened? >> I was trying to take a nap because tonight was supposed to be my last night there. I was supposed to find somewhere to go tomorrow. They bring me her, tell me to take care of her, but yet don't want me to [ __ ] hold her, be alone with her in the room so we can take a nap. If tonight's supposed to be our last night and I'm supposed to [ __ ] go somewhere on my own and I don't have any [ __ ] family. Obviously, we're on foot. My car blew up. I don't have any phone. I don't have no service on my phone. Okay. I was like, "Okay, you guys [ __ ] watch her. You guys hold on. I'm going to [ __ ] go take a nap." I go lay down. Oh, you going to come in out here? You n I was like, "No, I'm going to write." end up falling asleep because I'm not okay up here. I like I said, I just lost my dad. I lost the house. My car blew up. I just got relieved. I'm tired of being picked on ch told I'm going to get beat the up that they're going to suck me up if I don't get her to shut up or hand her over. Next thing I know, my hands are beinging crossed like this and they're grabbing my daughter out of mying hands as I'm on the bed. >> Why' they do that? >> Because I said I was going to call and find us a ride so we could get out of there and leave. that we would just leave. I wanted her to just cry. She's a kid. She can cry a little bit. It's not like four hours later she's still crying. It wasn't even 30 minutes. Let her cry. >> How old is she? >> 5 months. >> Oh, wow. Okay. She's young. >> Like, I'm not kidding you. I'm not in the state of mind to be told I'm going to get up. That I'm going to get up or have people yell at me telling me I'm a piece of mom because I don't get up and cure her ASAP. The mother completely denied the initial allegations from the witnesses. >> What happened with the baby on the bed? >> Had her like this. >> Okay. You don't have to I don't want you shaking. >> I'm not going to. I was like this. I was like, "It's okay. It's okay. You're fine." I was sitting there perfectly fine letting her cry like this. >> They didn't like it. Before they walked in, I had her like this. So when she did stop, she was like this. We went like this far from a [crying] blanket and I let her go. And they said I dropped her. They said I threw and dropped her >> to be exact. >> Okay. >> When I said no, I didn't. I know exactly what I did because I do it to her in her place. >> Does baby have formula? >> Yes. >> That's all in the bag. All of our in bags. I don't know where it's all at. I just left as soon as I could cuz like I told him, I'm not in this I'm not in the state of the mind right now to hear that I'm a piece of I just lost my dad. I just lost my car. I have family. But I don't have help. And all I wanted to do was leave. We could have left peacefully. There had to be no laying hands on my wrist. There could it could have been done differently. >> So you said that when you put the baby down, is that when the whole >> That's when everybody came in. >> Is there a reason why they reacted like that? >> Because they think I'm a piece of for what you arrested me for. >> Okay. >> When asked about her living situation, her emotions erupted as if society had turned against her. >> But whose house did all this happen at? >> The landlord. And are you related to the landlord or just friends or what's what's called >> friends? I don't know what the to call it. >> What's the landlord's name? She was an acquaintance or friend before >> I don't know what you want to label it. >> Okay. How long were you staying there? >> I was told you're supposed to stay this weekend. >> And your mom of your biological mom of Stevie, correct? Hi little one. Hi. So, where are you headed to? Do you have somewhere you can stay? >> Yeah, but it's in town >> like in in >> Papa Miller. Mike Archeletta shop is where I was headed. >> And do you have somebody to come pick you up? They turned off the Wi-Fi or I could go [ __ ] call somebody to come get us cuz they want me toinging struggle. >> And what house did this happen at? >> Where everybody's standing out at where the other officers at? >> All right. Where you're going to go? Do they have stuff? They >> I mean, is it like >> all of our stuff? Try to get into the park so I can meet you guys there. >> Okay. I'm not even supposed to be up here. >> Okay. How come you're not supposed to be up here? >> My husband has been evicted from my house. >> Where was your house at? >> In 98. >> Okay. I cleared it with Linda if I could stay here. She said you can stay with me this weekend and then I get picked on name called and I started hearing you. Yes, it's playful. Yes, I don't give a something I need right now. >> I just my car blew the up. >> Yeah, sounds like you got some [ __ ] going on. >> I'm not okay to hear all this every day. I'm trash and I'll do nothing for her doing everything for her. And they have my daughter's birth certificate, my diploma, my daughter, her uh social security card. >> Okay. And where where's that stuff at? >> At the assistant manager's house. >> Right up here. >> She's over there. >> Okay. >> Have her other car seat. >> Okay. >> As the conversation deepened, more issues emerged. living conditions, five other children, and information about the father facing legal troubles. >> You don't have a vehicle, correct? >> Nope. It blew up on the 2nd of July. >> Okay. Or you have a Wi-Fi phone, but you don't have a phone to call somebody. Do you know somebody you can call? >> I don't have anything on me. It's all over there. >> Okay. Okay. >> It's right there. It's over there. >> Okay. Okay. So, you do have your phone. You just don't have it on you, correct? Yeah. >> Do you know somebody's phone number you can call and I can let you use my phone? >> If I find my phone. >> Okay. Okay, but that may take a minute. >> Because Linda threw my out. Before I could find everything and make sure I had everything, she threw it all out. Or before I could secure it all in a in their bag throat. >> Okay. >> I'm tired of being picked on. I'm tired of hearing. Why help me if you think I'm soing selfish and useless? Why? Pretending [ __ ] >> April, we're away from that. So, let's We're away from that. Okay, I understand, right? Nobody's trying to change that. Okay, but we're away from that bad situation right now. Okay, so let's capitalize on that. You want to go down on Miller Street? Okay, then we're going to focus on getting you there. Okay. And is is is baby's dad involved at all or not? >> Adrien Lucero is actually got a DNA warrant for his arrest. >> Okay. Yeah. >> A warrant for his DNA. >> Okay. >> His car was taped the up the other day. He left us in his car for 2 and 1/2 hours. >> Okay. All right. in the >> Do you have any other children, April? >> I have five. >> She's the only one in my care right now. >> Okay. >> I was so close to getting the other three back >> in my care, >> but no, I lost sound. >> Okay. And did you say that there is a car seat up there? >> There's two. There's either one over there or over here. >> Okay. So, you do have one with you? >> Yep. I have two of them. >> One's over there in their possession. I only got one of them. One's pink, one's black, >> but we need one to get baby going somewhere safe, right? >> Her pink one's right over there. >> Okay, cool. >> Even so, the mother refused help and dismissed the officer's advice. >> So, what do you think needs to happen today, April? >> Get me the hell out of here. >> Okay. Anything else? Or just just be done with it? >> Yep. Just be done with it. >> Okay. >> I just had a child. I just lost my dad. I just got out of jail. My car just blew up. How come? >> It doesn't help. >> Are you? >> Cuz it's only up to you and what you're going to actually do. Nobody can help you with it. >> Okay. >> I've dealt with it for years. >> The situation required official intervention and the police proceeded with the necessary steps to ensure the child's safety. >> Here, I got a cool. >> That's fine. Just to sit her in there for a minute. Baby. Okay. >> Wait. >> Why? >> Why? I didn't do anything. She touched me. All I was doing was leaving. >> Can you call Carrie to come get baby? Who's Carrie? She's a teacher at PMS. >> What's that phone number? >> It's in one of my phones. >> Okay. We'll look into that. Okay. Do you know her last name? >> Oh, I can't think of it right now. But I do not want to up here. >> Well, she's not going to stay up there. >> Why am I being arrested for our chocolate? Why? >> How? We're going to go this far. >> Will you explain to me how? Please. >> How? April, you'll get all of the copies of everything. >> I now see why. I shouldn't have listened to you guys. It's going to hurt you. Okay. You know anything that's going to poke out? No. I don't think so. You don't have needles or anything? >> I shouldn't. Okay. >> Great. >> So, passenger side over here, great. >> I don't want her staying up here. >> She's not. >> And I want my diploma and my kids' socials out of their care and the other car seat. >> And you'll be able to do all that with a civil standby. Okay. But I'm not going to go in their house and grab all that. They're going to provide at least I think their social and insurance card as well, but they're not. >> Before taking the mother to the station, [music] police completed the remaining procedures and ensured the child's safety. I mean, if they have some of her stuff, like her birth certificate and stuff, if they're okay keeping it >> and then we'll have a civil standby and then she can get it later, you'll have them call. So, >> as long as they're >> Yeah, I'll go talk with them real quick. >> Will you just hang out with >> I'll hang out with baby. >> Baby's getting really fussy and red. So, I'm >> a little concerned. >> Yeah, for sure. Okay.
