Behind two seemingly unrelated stories lies a fractured society from Ohio where two mothers drag their kids into legal trouble. >> One way you give me some information or y'all put your hand up >> so that way it doesn't get Jesus Christ >> right there. That baby crack right in half. >> Ow. >> Stop. It hurts. I'm on paper >> to Illinois where tears, trauma, and a shattered childhood left even police speechless. >> Why are we going so fast? >> Sarah, I want you to breathe. Okay, >> I did take it away. >> Knock it off. >> You didn't tell my dad about my abuse. >> Bam, bam, bam, bam. >> When justice must both cuff and listen, can it still stand firm? >> McDonald's, kids, and cold beer. Three things that should never mix. But in Ohio, they collided in illegal firestorm. >> They got your family moving around here acting crazy with licking the cars. What? With two kids? With three kids in the back seat. >> November 6th, 2024. Ohio police chased down a speeding carrying three children. One stopped. They quickly learned the group had just been involved in a chaotic altercation with McDonald's staff moments earlier. At the scene, one person deliberately refused to cooperate and immediately ended up in handcuffs along with a I can't breathe performance. Yes, but screaming like hell is still possible. >> The black McDonald's. We just came from McDonald's. These mother got us upset basically because she talking about, "Oh, we can leave." So, we had a dispution where all her workers tried to gain up on two women, you know, standing our ground like you look, I'm not going. I'm trying to get McDonald's. You get what I'm saying? We trying to communicate with them. >> Okay. >> We got three kids in a car, which is my kids. No, we have this driveway >> because the police was right there. I'm not no dummy. I don't know what the going on. They didn't stop us. driveway. >> Yeah, cuz they didn't stop us. But at the end of the day, I know they turning back around for us. >> So why'd you leave? >> Leave where? Leave where? See, they told us to go. They told us to leave. >> What's yours? >> No, I'm not doing none of that. Oh, everything. I don't have nothing. I was respectful of the situation. ID. I don't have one, bro. What do you want to do? >> Whose [ __ ] is this? >> It's not mine. I don't even drive, bro. >> All right. Well, look. We got two ways of handling this. >> Two ways of what, bro? >> One way. You give me some information or two hand. I don't get in trouble. I never got in trouble a day in my life. That's all you need to know, right? >> Where's your sauce? >> No. Stop. >> I didn't do it. I'm trying to talk to my kids. I don't give a damn. >> I want to talk to my kids, bro. >> You get You were about to get your hands behind your back. Place your hands behind your back. >> Oh, yeah. I You ain't never say nothing, bro. >> I told you. I did. I was about to go out the club. My in the car. My ideas in the car. I want to talk to my kids. Make sure they know that everything okay. >> What are you talking about? What are you talking about? I got a daughter that's in the way. That's fine. Get in the car. >> I got you. Wait. Get in the back of the car. >> I got you. Wait. Respect me like I respect. It's going to get worse. I don't care. I know my laws and I got a lawyer. >> That's fine. Get in the back of the car. Don't sue me. Respect me and I respect you. >> I ask you for your ID. Get in the car. Understand that. Get in the car. You can't grab it. >> Get in the back of the car. You don't know where it's at. >> You got another person right here. >> Okay, I got to pee and I'm about to pee on myself. Give me a second. I can't breathe. >> I ain't nobody call the ambulance cuz you about to start in the back of the car. >> No, I can't breathe. Get knock it off. >> I'm not playing. I don't get in trouble. What you talking about? >> Well, I I don't get in no trouble. I can't breathe. Call the ambulance. >> Stop. I can't breathe. >> Stop. Stop, baby. >> No, I can't breathe, bro. >> I know, but you got to stop. Okay. Breathe. All right. >> Right. That's what you supposed to have been saying. >> Breathe. >> It don't matter. It don't matter. I can't breathe. Call the ambulance and let them know that I need to be. Girl, I'm about to pass out. I ain't even lie to you. >> But things didn't stop there. She kept going with a lawsy citizen monologue mixed with a demand to urinate on the spot. Ironically, she had no idea how to cooperate to ease the situation. I didn't even do >> you guys don't live here. >> No, like literally she pulled in. So I mean like literally I have my babies. Like I have my baby. So I >> didn't do nothing. Nobody was fake. The cameras don't tell you about you cuz I want to go get my ID. >> You weren't doing that. I asked you a lawyer. I know my lawyer. I don't give a none of that. I will fight the police if I have to. The lawyer know it all. Not going back in that vehicle. >> Wait, wait, wait. That hurt when you do that. I'm not no criminal, though. You playing me like I'm a criminal. And I'm not no criminal. I ain't never had a defense a day in my mother life. You know what I'm talking about? >> Not playing games. >> Okay, but I can't breathe. I need a water. >> Okay, we'll deal with that in a second. >> My kids is around. You got You got You don't understand. It's a lot going on. I got three kids. >> I tried to explain actually what's going on. You playing games. >> I don't know. I just going my position. I know what I do. >> Right past me. I was on Frederick. Right. Right. That's why I pulled over, dummy. >> Someone's parking lot. You don't even >> cuz I knew he was coming. Dummy. What are you talking about? Ain't no game. I'm not no game type of person. >> Going to play this game, >> bro. Hold on. >> Can you please let me pee or you want me to pee right here? >> Where you going to pee at? You don't even >> Hey, don't matter. I got to pee. >> So, where you going to pee at then? Hey, don't you tell me. >> We're not playing games with you. >> You tell me. I don't get in trouble. I don't give a about I don't get in trouble. Go in the car. >> We're not We're not playing games. >> My son's trying to talk to me. Please respect the fact that Get in the car. You can't have them listen to you either. Can you make sure my kids at school is sitting down in the car at least? >> Get back in the vehicle. >> Please and thank you. Make sure they good in the car. >> Please, police. Everybody else, you make sure they good, bro. Hey, I am in the car and this in the car. >> I can't. There's something right there. Sweet in the car. >> You see that blue strip? >> We're not We're not going to play games. >> You see that blue strip, bro? I'm dead serious. Get up out of here. >> Swing your leg over. >> I will, but I can't scoot over. You see how it is, bro? My lawyer with this one. >> See how easy you got in there with that leg? >> My neck is What do you mean? >> Fine. >> My neck. >> And the other mother, not much better. One arm held the baby while the other practically shoved the child's face into a thorny fence. That's when chaos broke loose. One was still screaming, "I can't breathe." while the other launched into the classic tune, "I'm not drunk." >> Literally, like I'm scared as and I got these babies in my por. >> Do you want me to take the baby? >> No, this is my baby. Well, why don't you put in his car seat or something right now? >> I will. >> These are my >> Your mom's fine. Where? Where's your idea? >> I don't Let me get this baby put down so that way it doesn't get Jesus Christ. >> No. What you mean? >> You almost just stabbed the baby's face on the >> Really? Come on now. No, I know. I have no >> Put the Put the child in there now. >> Oh my god. Hold on. Stop. Stop. Stop. Baby, stop. Sit back. Sit back. Sit back now. >> Stop kicking the back of this window. Knock it off. >> It was 18. >> Step over here. Go over there. >> Hold up. Wait a minute. >> Go over I know what you mean. >> I am. Watch this. Watch here. >> Wait. How are you guys going to really uh assault me? >> No one's assault you. >> What do you mean? I'm literally pull the kids like literally I'm the one. >> We just watch over here. He's not strapped in so he doesn't roll out or anything. >> Dude, I had him in my hand. You guys literally >> Do you have anything illegal on you? >> No. >> Nothing going to prank me so >> nothing. Like I don't understand this. I really don't want to say this. So you you have no right to arrest me. >> I'm detaining you. I'm detaining you right now. All right. How about for that? >> No. No. Actually, give me some information. >> How about that? >> No. Give me some information. >> No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. Cuz you're freaking hammered. Go. Get in there. Have a seat there. Yes, you are. I can smell it on you. Have a seat. Now, I'm going to make you get in there or you're going to get in there. >> Let me get No. Let me get your supervisor. >> I'll get him here. >> Yeah. Please. Can I >> have a seat in the car? >> Can you please stop getting >> He's on his way. I promise. He's on his way. >> Literally, stop putting your hands on me. >> All right. >> But the Corona beer bottles on the car said otherwise. Well, uh, I found a bottle next to a big bottle of Corona. So, I guess that's the reason why we acting crazy. >> Yeah. >> I was not driving, bro. >> Okay. >> I was not driving. So, why are you >> You're being detained. I just told you you're being detained until we see you just dropped a child at McDonald's from what they're saying. We're going to review the video. Okay. And then you went there and you're supposedly pulling your pants down trying to fight some. No. >> Well, it's on if it's on video then if then that. If not, then you're you're good. >> You see the three kids in my car, bro. Well, her bottle of alcohol. Look at that. This why we acting a little crazy. >> They rushed to McDonald's to retrieve the surveillance footage. What appeared on the screen sent chills down everyone's spine. The two women seemed to be dragging the child. >> Do you guys want to run to McDonald's and see the video and see what transpired with her? Cuz they said we could do child. She dropped the child and obviously she's intoxicated. Something like that. See if we can go from there. >> If you don't mind. >> All right. All right, they're going to go check out the video and if nothing there's nothing to go off of, then we'll be done. >> Did you guys already get her or >> I think we found her. We just we were just looking wanted to look at the camera footage about Thank you. >> So, I'm not really sure what occurred before this. I was in there being crazy, but you watched this lady come over and grab this baby. At one point, she pulls the baby and like the baby was like in half. Like the neck was back and everything. But the way this baby didn't cry, that baby has to be like 3 weeks old. The baby didn't cry one time. Something's wrong with that baby. Like when they we don't have camera out here, but when they threw that baby in the back of that truck. >> Okay. >> Just all the footage you guys have. >> I mean, I can show you the whole thing back there. >> Like and they just started acting like >> No. Well, they were on the counter and I was walking back from up the front and they were like, "Nobody's working on the counter." And like they were like, "I don't know." >> Yeah. Shut that door. >> Yep. I was getting ready. Say my first rodeo. >> Yeah. >> My door got installed. I got smacked off the face over in my chicken. >> Yep. I believe that. >> Yep. Yep. Yep. Look, look right there. That baby cracked right in half. >> Yeah, that is crazy. >> So, I mean, they like back. She's really good at pissing people off. So, she >> Yeah. Well, if they started spitting, I I had >> I had to keep everyone inside cuz I will I'm a farm girl and I'm going to someone up if you spit on me. >> You didn't see the baby fall outside. >> I did not. >> No. >> So, what she said was that they like tossed the baby into the back seat of >> with clear evidence right in front of them. They still shamelessly repeated, "I didn't do nothing." >> Hello. >> What's up, man? My bad for a little panic. It was hard for me to call out with that woman screaming my face. So, I pull up. So she blow past me driving at Frederick like a high rate of speed. I mean you see the tires skip off the concrete which front behind her. She pulls this driveway doesn't live here. Got nothing to do with this house. Like what's your name? Give name information blah blah. What's going on? I ain't telling you nothing. It's okay. Let it be red. Say I ain't telling you nothing at this game. >> I'm not going to play games. You got in that truck. You ain't giving me your identification. I'm just going handcuff. >> I didn't do nothing. Please don't. >> Okay. Who's that's her children? >> Yes. I was literally taking two McDonald's. I had like $60 on me in my choice. I was going to buy and then something happened and she went crazy and I took the kids off. Like I'm not I promise you guys like I'm not in that. I'm already in services. I'm not on that. Like I just wanted to buy the kids. >> You want to try and get her information? >> I just try to like >> Hi. >> Maybe going to be all right. >> It appears to be acting normal. though. >> Yeah, >> the carrier dropped or was the physically dropped? >> From the sound, it sounds like the baby was physically dropped to the ground but then picked back up and then like it seemed like she's so intoxicated that like the baby was kind of flopping around just because it's so young. So, kind of didn't like the light being shined appears to be acting normal any other issue. >> Yelling didn't work so they switched tactics right away. One pretended to faint from shortness of breath, while the other suddenly remembered, "That car belongs to my husband." Two women slick enough to have the entire police unit spinning in circles. But the moment children are involved, no trick can stand up to the law. >> I'll loosen them up, but you can swing your back. >> You need to loosen them just a little bit. >> Stop grabbing. Stop grabbing. Stop grabbing. Release your hands. Stop spinning your hand. Just release them. I can't breathe, bro. >> Stop moving. >> He can't breathe, bro. Give me water or something. Please, bro. >> Relax. >> But my kids is away from me. That's the worst thing that could ever happen, bro. Please help me. >> All right. You want to take a look at her? She say she can't breathe. She's >> We're looking at her now. >> Yeah. >> Your consideration. It don't matter if I'm in trouble or not. Yo, you're going to help some type of way. I've never been in trouble. I don't know how this go, but I'm not a criminal. Dear lawyer, dear, please. I need the baby's name and date of birth. >> I can't tell you that. I don't want my babies away from me. Period. Bro, it's all on camera. I don't care. You're not giving me no information. Stay in the car. Okay, that's fine. I want >> I need a water, bro. Y'all need to let me breathe. Handcuff me out of nowhere, bro. >> Get back in the car. >> It don't matter. He ain't safe. Please put your hands behind your back. Nothing. He grabbed my hand. >> I got three kids. >> You got You got EMS right here looking to check out your baby. Okay. >> Okay. What's your question? >> I have a question. Um, but that truck, I'm not going to lie, it was my husband, David H. I I was not driving it. I was the one that was the kids or whatever. You know, they all freaking out. Um, I didn't do nothing. Like, I'm sitting there freaking out with the kids like, "What the is going on?" She whipping it, bro. We scared, we screaming like, "Whoa, bro. Like, you're doing too much." Like, they got you. Like, they got you. I'm not done. Like, I just cut off the papers, bro. I'm in the county, baby. You already knew me. >> I told you a lot. All right. >> All right. We'll be we'll be back in a minute. >> All right. Just just sit up. Keep your keep your head up. Deep breaths. Right. In through your nose, out through your mouth. We got to get your heart rate back down. Okay. >> Go to McDonald's and see the camera. >> We're going to do that. Okay. We'll do that. All right. Right now. Right now, we're worried about the health and safety of everybody here. Okay. >> They're cool. We're not cool. We just had a whole McDonald's and I'm trying to explain. Okay. Just because one person be disrespectful. You don't mean the next person got to get out. You get what I'm saying? >> You just trying to check her out or >> Yeah. If you want checked out, I mean, >> I don't care. I'm going to pass by. >> Oh, yeah. Cuz you're hyperventilating. Not anything wrong with you. >> There's definitely something in that truck that she keeps saying, "That's not my truck. That's my husband's truck." So, there's definitely something in the truck. I'm David. You are not doing the >> what? >> You searching David H. That's David H. >> Do you not read the license plate? >> It don't matter. >> That's my husband. Yes, she was in the car. >> I'm not And she's under arrest. >> Clearly. >> Clearly. >> The ice cold open Corona bottle was undeniable proof. Yet, they kept making excuses and blaming each other. It got to the point where the officer, clearly fed up, said, "I almost pulled my taser because of being so sick of their antics." >> Well, right now, now you are under arrest for an open container in a motor vehicle. >> I did not do nothing. I wasn't right. >> You're in the passenger seat with an open container. That's not an OVI. It's open container in a motor vehicle. >> What do you mean? How How can you prove that? >> It's in the passenger door. >> It's in the passenger door. >> Bro, that's not my All right, let me get the evidence then because you know what? >> That's fine. That's You'll have it in court. You have your day in court. >> Open containers in the bed of a truck count. No, I I mean I would never charge that, but she she had that one. >> She had that open bottle. >> Yeah. Which was full. I dumped it out. So that one you could do her and and like the document like on that. I put that it's like cold and documented their sweat on it and stuff like that. So they can see that it's not like it's new. >> Yeah. Cuz she's like, "Oh, no. That's been in there. That's not mine." I mean, >> still cold. >> Yeah. >> You have no reason to arrest me. >> You can't see the judge till tomorrow. So it won't be till least. >> You have no reason to arrest me legally. Listen to you. You sound dumb as >> You ever hear the rap? Cuz we have a thing called the rap. I'm trying to get this out of my like look. It's literally hit my Look, >> I had him loose enough. >> Look, >> at one point in time, >> dude, I'm I'm skinny. I'm anemic. I didn't do nothing. I didn't do nothing. I promise that's not me. >> I didn't say it was. >> I was going to say that's not me. Don't look at me like that. >> Okay, go ahead. Step out. >> Like, that's not me. Oh, hold on. Oh, >> come back behind your back. >> No, no, no. I will. Hold on. Hold on. Let me let me >> We ain't here to play games. >> Oh, wait. I'm back playing games. Like, don't don't harass me. Hey, guess what? You 50. >> You're not here to play games with >> Dude, you literally I'm anemic. And guess what? Yeah. Wait, wait, wait, wait. No, wait, wait, wait. What's your name? >> No. What's your name? >> No. Your name, >> ma'am. Your attitude was terrible. Come on. Like I said, we could have worked something out. Figured something out to go on this route. And if you didn't have a license, yes, you were driving reckless with that car and the kids in the car. We could have figured something else out versus the way you were acting. When you trying to go back in that vehicle after I ask you for your information, you like, "No, I ain't giving you nothing." That to me was a complete problem. I don't know what you have in that car. I understand you got kids in that car, but like you, I want to go home and see my family at night. That to me was a no no. When you start acting pulling away like that, >> I was tempted to tase you, but I it would didn't. It shouldn't have gone that far. So, I put you in those cups. I put you in the back of this car. I got your family around here acting crazy with liquor in the car as well with two kids. With three kids in the back seat, which man, that's crazy. >> I got in the car. But you could have just stayed there. >> Just ma'am, you should have just stayed there. >> Yes, the kids are gone. Kids went down to the hospital. >> All right, step out now. >> Hold on one second. Hold on. My left leg is really hurting. I got bit by that one. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. You guys are really taking this boat. I've never seen I've never seen someone take two people at once. [Music] Okay. >> Do we step up? >> Nope. >> Okay. >> You got to stop moving. >> No, I'm saying like it's on my mothering bone. >> You might be muscle. You might be a muscle. >> You need to stop moving so you take the ps off. >> Ain't nobody asking me. You can hand rest. >> Hold up. Wait a minute. I can face my direction, but my hand is hurting. I've been trying to do this. >> Well, then stop moving it so I can take it off. >> I'm literally trying to move my wrist so I can I'm anemic. >> No, I obviously I'm trying not to, but it hurts. Ow. >> Stop. It hurts. >> You're causing this. Knock it off. >> Oh god. What is up with people today? >> Really? >> Yes. >> Stop filming. >> Ow. >> Get in there. >> All right. >> Watch your head. >> Why do you think you're in charge here? Cuz you're not. >> The scene got more chaotic as both were taken away. One was screaming while the other wanted to beat up her friend for driving like a maniac and getting them caught. It's almost laughable. With no way out, they turned on each other like they were never close. >> All right, come on out. >> Yeah, I will soon as you step out. >> Walk over here now. Okay. >> Don't put me in the car where I'm still on. >> You're going to be in a different compartment here. You're going to be a different I'm going to switch you out on you. Okay. >> Can you give me information on what's going on? You're going to jail right now. Turn around. >> I got you. I got you. >> I'mma beat your hoe. You a lying [ __ ] and I'm going to make sure. I'mma Hey. Hey. Shut up, Jessica. For real. You stupid. >> Stupid [ __ ] >> [ __ ] you stupid. >> I'm going to jail because you've been belligerent to McDonald's. I can't wait to go to court so we can see this. No, it's not on camera. Don't worry. Don't worry. Everything is not. >> What the is up with today, >> bro? I didn't do nothing, dude. They played me, bro. I'm here. The you mean you going to get me killed, bro? Literally. Literally, they told my dude's car. They arrested me because you ran from her. Just literally sit there. You in my mother vehicle. >> Enjoy the ride. >> Hey, at least I got my baby daddy. At least I'll get bailed out tomorrow. >> And at least I'm going to whack your ass soon as I can. I guess they will >> play with me. >> You're the one that drove crazy, >> Jessica. I'm decking your dumb. >> You sound >> I don't care. I don't care. >> I don't care because guess what? >> You're not safe. >> Guess what? What do I got to say? Hey, watch your face. >> You knew what you were. >> Yeah. >> You ain't got your kids, so you don't care. >> Guess what? I'm on paper. >> You ain't got your kids, so you don't care. Hey, that's your problem. Hey, child. Child. >> Shut up, ho. You a child. All right. Running from the mother. >> Hey, you got a lawyer, right? You got >> my lawyer is on deck. What you mean? >> Yeah. I ain't never been to jail a day my mother. >> Baby, >> this going to be a ball. >> You the one child endangerment and running from the police. Look at your record. Let's go. Open up. Open up, Wolf. Come on. Let's open the door. They sure know how to cause a scene, even inside a police station. But there's one thing they still don't seem to get. Driving drunk with a baby in the car is putting that child in danger, panic, and lasting emotional trauma that won't be easy to heal. >> Knew she couldn't drive. Of course, I'm going to drive. You're drunk. Of course, I'm going to drive. I can't even ignore our words. I know how to drive. Yes. I'm about to y'all going to take me to this station, right? Cuz that's Come on. >> Put them back. Put them back behind your back. >> Give me a minute. The arms are in here. Just put my arms around. >> There she is. change. >> Just stand up. >> I can't, >> bro. >> Yeah. Why'd you get >> Well, guess what? >> I'm sitting there in there too long. >> Because she wants to sit in there and run around. >> What do you mean? I guess >> stand up. I'm done dealing with your already. Stand up. >> I know. You about to get sued. >> Okay. All right. >> Yeah, you do. Do I have to tell you? Actually, no. He's the one that uh arrested me. Let him give you the information. >> Right. I didn't do this. >> No. No. No. You did arrest me. I don't care. I shaved me a handcuff. No. No. No. I didn't do nothing. Nope. I >> These two mothers ended up in jail together, charged with child and open container. Under Ohio law, they could face 6 months to one year in jail or a fine of up to $1,000. Bail for each could range from $1,000 to $5,000. When parental rights become a weapon and the law is treated like a joke, it's the innocent children who pay the price. Love can't replace logic and instinct is no excuse for irresponsibility. Now, let's leave the chaotic Ohio behind and head to Illinois, where the line between criminal and victim is so thin that just one tear can make the whole system pause. And listen, >> I apologize, but I'm just letting you guys know I have some mental health stuff going on right now. I'm really manic and I haven't slept for days. On July 27th, 2024 in Mckenry, Illinois, police had to stop another car speeding at 85 mph in a 35 zone with a child inside. The mother stepped out aggressively, proudly stating she had served 7 years in prison, suffers from mania, chronic insomnia, and is raising a young child. Will that kind of self introduction soften the police's hearts or only raise more red flags? >> Stay there. Why? What? For >> Why are we going so fast? >> What are you talking about? It doesn't mean anything. >> Well, the reason we stopped you is cuz you were skating. >> Oh, okay. Let's write a ticket. Let's go. >> What's What's going on with you? >> South just north road. >> Take your license. >> All right. How you guys doing? Good. Right. You guys deal with mental health. So, well, don't you? Bam. Bam. Bam. Bam. >> I don't even know you, ma'am. >> Fine. I don't know you, so I apologize, but I'm just letting you guys know I have some mental health stuff going on right now. I'm really manic and I haven't slept for days. I got to take care of this little guy. Okay, that's all right. >> But you guys So sorry, ma'am. >> But you guys, >> get your first name, please. My name's Caitlyn. >> Okay. Hey, I'm I'm uh Princess Lamb, royal judge. >> I'm trying to help. I'm trying to help. Yes, I understand. Maybe you've had bad experiences with cops. Never mind. >> Seven years in prison. Yeah. >> I'm sorry to hear that. So, what do you need? >> What I need from you guys right now to understand that without him, I would. >> What does he have to do with my baby. Okay. So, why the only thing I care about or don't care about me anymore? >> Are you trying to get him to the hospital? I'm trying to get home so I can just forget that everything is evacuation. >> Can I please have your driver's license? >> Okay. Uh, would you guys like uh It's kind of a real mess right now, so I don't know how you want me to do this. Oh, you know what? It's attach my keys. Attach my keys. Hi, you are so cute. >> Sarah, I got a couple of funny questions for you. Okay. Just because you're telling me that you're having some mental health issues. Okay. I want to make sure that you're okay to take care of Seth. Okay. Answer her. >> 6. Go ahead. >> Can you tell me what do you know what month it is? Uh, we have >> July. >> We got a driver. >> July. July. Whatever. Doesn't matter. >> Do you know what year it is? >> Yeah. >> I was I was going to say my birthday year. >> 99. It's 2024. >> Excellent. It could be Paris. It could be Biden. I'm not sure. So, what are you trying to figure out? That I'm level-headed or what? >> Run. Can you run her? >> Well, did you yet or what? >> Oh, why did you? >> The officers chose empathy over handcuffs. They lowered their voices, carried the child out of the car, find a way to comfort, and most importantly, they listened. Even as the mother cried and slammed her head against the pavement, >> jumped out of the car. You ran towards our spy car. dead birth last. See these scars here? >> These are nice scars, right? >> 52. >> This is a good scar, too. These are all about my pain and expressing it. >> Can you express my pain? >> Can I just express my pain for what I'm feeling? >> We're listening. We're listening. >> Are you really? >> Yeah, I am% >> would you want to kill me? >> No, absolutely not. >> Careful. I want if I created me, I'd want me. >> Well, we don't want you. If >> I was God, I'd be so ashamed of myself. >> We want you to hang around. Okay. >> For what? >> For us. For your son. For the little guy. >> Everybody else is going to take care of him. >> Go ahead. >> I'm really glad I scared. She needed it. >> Okay. Um, so here's what we're going to do. We're going to rescue squad's going to come. Okay. I want you to speak to a doctor because of these statements that you're making. Okay. >> They can't help me. >> Why? Why do you say that? >> Cuz there's no suboxin program for me. There's no methodone program for me. There's no heroin clinic. There is nothing that they can do for me cuz I've already done the damage. Don't you get it? Damage is already done. Okay. So, so the rest of my life, he will be taking care of me. He will be wiping my when I'm older because of what I did because I didn't know what I was doing at the time. So stupid. Sarah >> and I did theinging research and I'm mad at myself for it. I'm mad at myself. I'm so mad at myself. >> Sarah, I want you to breathe. Okay, >> Sarah, please breathe. [Music] >> Oh god. >> What's your name? >> Sarah. >> Sarah, can you sit up? Sarah. Yes. Sit up. >> Yeah. Yeah. I need you to sit up. >> Okay. You have a baby in the car, so if you don't start acting. >> All right, you're right. You're right. You're You're correct. You're correct. I need to be an adult. I need to stop. I need I need to give it up. I need >> Come on, Sarah. >> Sarah, sit up. Okay. All right. I need to give it up. >> You can say sit. >> I need to give it up. Just sit. >> Sarah isn't just a wounded mother. She's living proof of how society has neglected mental health for far too long until the pain could no longer be hidden. >> Do you have any friends in the area? Any family? Anything like that? >> What does that matter? How are they going to help you? Well, I am not I'm not sure. I mean, >> I live with my mother. >> Where does your mom live? >> Elorn, Wisconsin. Your mom's name and her phone number, please. >> All right. All right. All right. All right. Hold on. >> Can I smash my face against the phone for you? >> No, thank you. >> What's your mom's name? >> I've done it before. I got scars and >> Okay. Sarah, what's up? >> Sarah, what's your mom's name? >> What does it matter? >> I need to get a hold of your mom. >> For what? >> You're going to in my car. >> For what? Cuz you're going to take my kid away. >> Relax. like to take it away. >> Knock it off. >> This is what I wanted. This is what I wanted. This is what I asked for. >> Your son is hot. I took him out of the car and put him in the air conditioning. >> Okay. What's your mom's name? >> Carolyn. Okay. Did you throw a niner in there, by the way? >> I know what movie that's from. >> I do too, cuz I'm a [ __ ] >> Don't talk about yourself like that. >> I have to. That's what I am. >> Sarah, >> I'm a piece of >> You're not a piece >> and everybody should know it. >> You're not a piece of You're a human being. Maybe you've made some mistakes in your past that not a piece of does that make you. You're you're judging yourself awfully hard. >> I have to. >> You've been nothing but cool with us, okay? Which I appreciate. You're making our job easier. And I took your baby out cuz I didn't want him to get hot and I didn't want him I know he's little. >> I don't want him seeing this cuz kids remember, right? We remember our trauma, right? >> I don't want to talk about that. >> Okay. I'm telling you, that's why I took your talk about that. >> So, here's the deal. Sarah, do you have a I think Can you go? This isn't a good phone number. Get her phone reset you. They're going to check your blood pressure. They're going to check your heart rate. >> Caroline, I or you're going to call your mom. Where is your phone at? >> It is in there somewhere. I'm not sure because I've been I've been a wreck today. I'm a total wreck today. Good luck finding it. But I believe it should be just those are all my prescriptions. They're all >> You think it's rare? I may have a joint or something in there. I'm sorry. I apologize. Why do you Why do you tell me why you want to break? >> Oh, yeah. Because I don't want to go. >> I told you it. >> Maybe. Maybe I'm wrong. >> I'm sorry. >> Yeah, if it lets me cuz it's a new phone and you called J. >> Just press and hold. >> I just want to break it. Press and hold with your thumb. Okay. In truth, Sarah is a victim herself, hurt by her own family. A childhood filled with abuse and a mother's silence pushed her into a lifelong battle with a darkness inside. It all came pouring out in a moment of self-lame. I'm just trash. >> I'm trying to get the mom's phone number. She's been pretty erratic. So, I just hit the phone number. You guys can do like one second. >> She's been pretty erratic. Okay. 85 down road. Pulled her over. Tire tracks are hers. jumped out of her car, ran into the street >> like five minutes. >> Okay. >> Well, maybe that's my that's my fault. I'm sorry cuz I kept see I kept seeing >> That's okay. We just want >> I kept throwing a letter in there. I'm sorry. >> We just want to make sure >> I'm dyslexic. So, is it okay with you if the hospital if the fire >> ambulance is 5 minutes out? >> The ambulance is a few minutes out. Sarah, can you just hang out there, >> please? What? >> So, the reason why my my officer needs to call your mom is because is it okay if mom comes and gets your son? >> Absolutely. Just because you're you're acting a little disoriented. Okay. I'm worried about you and you're making statements about hurting yourself. Why do you want to hurt yourself when you say when you say you wanted us to just hit you? Why? Why? Sarah, can you tell me, Sarah? I can't I can't explain it all. Can't explain. I can't explain it all to you. So, it's long story short, I went through a lot of trauma as a child, and I'm trying to get over it now, okay? And I'm in my blooming process, and it hurts. It's very painful. I bet. >> I mean, look, the scars are telling enough, aren't they? I did that to myself, so it should be telling enough. >> I know you self harm. >> I have. >> You have. When was the last When was the last time? >> It's been a couple years now. And years. I'm doing really good, but I lost my mind yesterday and the day before because I've been getting a lot of sleep. I've been a little manicky. I've been I can't help it. I can't help it. Like, I can help it. I can't help it. I'm not saying you can help it. >> I'm so sorry. I'm trying to keep it together in my belly. >> Darl, take a breath for me. Okay. >> Oh, I'm feeling soing bad, man. I was doing so good with that kid. Oh, I just want to break everything. >> You did not hurt your child. Okay. I put him in danger. >> Well, you you were speeding. Yeah. Here's what's going to happen. You're you're going to get evaluated by rescue and we're going to write you a ticket for speeding and your child's probably going to be turned over to your mom. >> That's okay. I will have to contact DCFS. Okay. >> Yeah, that's right. >> Have you had any contact with them in the past? >> I have. Okay. >> I had to fight really hard to actually get I was dirty when he was born and I've been trying to stay off the pain. I've been doing really good, but >> So, her license is valid out of Wisconsin revoked in Illinois. >> So, the Illinois uh doesn't that Wisconsin? >> Wait, I'm revoked in Did I get a ticket in Illinois that I didn't pay or something? So, I must have It doesn't tell us all that information, >> right? I'm like, I owe my mom so much money for paying off all my tickets. It's not real. Like, that's why I mow lawns every single weekend. I even got this is we whack. I start mowing this stuff for anybody. I don't care. Are you close with mom? It's so complicated. I don't really want to get into it. >> I understand. If you don't want to talk about it, that is your prerogative. I get it. I was just st >> She made one mistake that she can't undo and nobody can. So, it's over. She didn't tell my dad about my abuse. didn't get worse. So, I had no clue the whole time. Pisses me off so much that that's why I was the way I was. He was lying to him. He didn't get why my brother went to bed till he was 16. Obviously, he had trauma, but he didn't want to believe it. >> He denied that truth. >> Sure. >> So, >> I'm so sorry for everything that happened to you, Sarah. >> Nothing happened to me bad. Everything that was happening to me. >> Well, you obviously >> because I wouldn't be the person I am today without >> pulling up. You want me to come up here? Wait. >> No, we can walk back. We're going to take a walk back to the ambulance. Okay. >> Although they acted with compassion, the police still upheld the law and completed their duty. The child was handed over to his grandmother. As for the mother, she was taken in an ambulance, not because of violence, but because her own past is killing her day by day. >> Would that be okay, Sarah? >> Yeah. >> Just real quick, you don't have anything in your pockets? Nothing? >> Oh, no, no, no. >> Just keep your hands out. >> I do have tissue or something. I have a thing in my pocket, but yeah, you can search me. Just uh face the car for me. I'm just going to do a pat down. Okay. I'm just making sure you don't have any weapons, guns, knives. >> I tried to start a new life today and I found out that everybody was >> Well, get no argument from me there. Did you keep anything in your bra? >> No. >> All right. Stand up straight for me. I'm just going to look under your hat. >> Oh, yeah. Go ahead. >> Okay. You can relax. Okay. We're going to just walk right on my face. You know, I do that on purpose so people will look at me funny. You know why? Cuz I don't want them to like me. Let's go take a walk. Can we take a walk towards the ambulance? Sarah, >> grab your phone. Okay. >> Just like her own, pulled her over. What's your name? >> Saw us behind her. Swerved out into the grass, eventually pulled over. Once she was in car, she jumped out of the car. She suicidal suicidal ideations. And she has made a fair amount of references to like drugs in the past. I don't know if it's current, but I would say What's that? >> Sorry, it was a huge cluster. >> Oh, yeah. It's fine. What are you guys doing with the kids? >> Uh, she's on No, she's calling uh calling grandma. >> Okay. >> Hey, >> no. Why? >> Oh, did you get a hold of mom? >> Yeah. >> She's coming. >> You want to go start a tow report for her car? >> Sure. >> Correctly. >> Do it right. Okay. >> Call you today. I'm going to call CMS cuz we have a child in protective custody. >> Us child. >> Hello, my name is Officer Caitlyn Lorenz. I'm calling from Mckenry City regarding a child I have in protective custody. Can you get out and tell whoever that is to do a to report coming? >> If I'm going to follow them, I need someone to finish the tow report. She's on the phone with DCFS. Just do the finish up the tower report. >> Okay. >> If they were going to go, then you can just follow them after. >> I would say probably >> 104. >> How old do you think that little one is, Chris? >> What? >> How old do you think he is? >> A year. >> Probably. >> He just turned a year, she said. Uh, what do you want? >> So, when they go following that one, >> have Caitlyn following this one. And if Caitlyn's not ready to follow, I'll follow you. >> Hold on. I'm on the phone with DCFS. >> Sorry. Go ahead, Neil. I'm sorry. I'll follow him up to the hospital then if you're going to be on the phone with DCFS. You left key, right? >> Yeah, she's >> even. So, Sarah, the mother could not escape prosecution. She was charged with child and reckless driving.
