Like I said, >> how many fingers are we missing? >> Two. >> This is where emotion meets responsibility. [music] Where parental instinct sometimes faces real life challenges. >> I have two other kids. I couldn't even keep the other two. >> He reached his hand and he's me across the face. And my first son's father, he used to the out of me. The video doesn't tell a single story, but instead shares multiple glimpses of the same situation. When a family environment struggles, children are always the ones most affected. >> A seemingly routine welfare check revealed a chain of challenges stretching from a struggling home to serious consequences. >> All it means I got to my daughter cuz he wasn't around at the time. On September 14th, 2023, Shambbley police conducted a welfare check on a mother and her child at this home at the request of DCFS. They observed that the young mother was facing significant life difficulties, including financial struggles affecting her ability to pay rent. >> How you doing? >> You know what room number she's in? 2:24. Everything's fine. >> It's fine. >> What's the uh >> She's right here. >> What's going on? >> Nothing. I just want to pay for my room. This is where you talk to. >> What's going on? >> Nothing. >> Who's Who's in the room with you? >> Huh? >> She's fine. Nobody else. >> Go ahead and take her. >> I said go ahead and take her. >> Why would we do that? What's going on with you? What's your name? >> Tiffany. >> What's your last name? >> I don't give a You want to take me to jail? Go ahead. Then I don't have to I don't have to worry about trying to find a a place to stay or worrying about paying rent. Go ahead and take sick of this. You >> think it's going to be beneficial to you and your baby if I take you? >> I don't care. Nobody knows. No, y'all don't know. No. >> Like if you're going to take me, >> you can go ahead and take me. Like I really don't give a I really don't give a me right now. pays me. Do whatever y'all going to do to to to black people when y'all do that. Do it. I I really don't give a like if going to kill in my life now. >> Who? >> If is going to kill me in my life right now. Like I really don't care. >> What person? >> If that's what y'all going to do, if y'all take me to jail, take me right now. Like, >> how old are you, Miss? >> I'm 26. >> 26? >> Yes. >> You want to talk to me for a few years? >> What is there to talk about? >> Trying to get to see where the head is at. That's >> I just want a place to go with me and my daughter. I don't have that right now. Unless I'm making you upset. >> Why? It's funny. >> Huh? Nobody's laughing. >> No, nobody laughing. >> Hey, make sure you you're good. >> Come out and talk to us. >> What is there to talk about? If y'all ain't going to help me alone, then what is there to talk about? If y'all ain't going to take me to jail, what is there to talk about? What y'all can do? Rest me to the ground for y'all. What are they going to do? Break my neck, me, tase me? >> No, that's not If y'all going to take me to jail and you're not going to help me find a place to go, what is there to talk about? I NEED A PLACE TO GO FOR ME AND MY DAUGHTER. I was on the verge of finding a place to go right now. >> If you don't talk to me, I can't help you. Okay. >> Like, what is there to talk about? Step out. >> If you don't talk about holding my daughter away from me, I don't give a about her. Like, take her. From the outside, she might appear to be an overwhelmed parent, but inside she [music] carried deep emotional challenges. Loss of loved ones, lack of family support, and a strained relationship with the child's father. >> Father is the one that don't give a [ __ ] about her. >> Do you take any medicine? >> No, I don't. >> Okay. >> How'd she get the her? >> I did it. >> You did what to >> I did it. This >> What did you do? >> This I her? >> Yes, I did. >> In the face. >> Yes. a 2-year-old. >> What? Because >> Because what? >> I was upset. >> Upset about what? >> Because I I don't have a place to go and her father's not helping me doing nothing. >> I don't have a place to go >> right now. In the face. >> Where's her dad? >> He's at his home. I don't know where he's at. Yes, he does. >> You might have given us his phone number to call him. >> Yes. I talked to him like last week. >> When last time you seen his daughter? >> No, I talked to him a few days ago. That is his daughter. >> A few days ago, >> y'all going to take her just take her? >> We will. We'll get to that when we get there. Okay. But as for now, we just doing a welfare check. We just want to know what's going on. Just saying. You don't got your finances situated. You worried about a place to stay. So, we got somebody in Rob to come and help you with resources and we try to help you. Okay. Okay. >> Help me how? >> We'll get to that when she comes. >> All right. They're not going to let me stay here. Nobody gives a about me. Like, >> can't say that. Nobody gives a negative at all. Nobody gives a about me out here on the street. >> Where's your mom? >> She's >> I'm sorry to hear that. Where's your >> She's at a house >> living comfortably with her husband without trying to ass husband at that. >> Where? >> Where? >> She says an indicator. I don't even get a whole 30 days. She just ain't even good out after a week. My aunt I didn't even have a whole 30 days to leave. I just had a week to leave and then that was it. >> Why? >> Because that's just how she does. >> Have a really good relationship with Justin. >> No, I don't. >> What about your dad? >> I don't know my dad. >> Sorry. >> The only road team you have is yours. >> Yes. Really? That I talk to? I have an older brother, but I don't talk to him. I don't I couldn't stay with my older brother if I wanted to. >> Where is he at? >> I don't know where he lives at. >> So, y'all don't talk. >> No. Besides him, that's all we have. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> I just want to find a place to go with my daughter. I'm tired of being stressed. I'm tired of being angry. Her dad doesn't help me. He says he thinks it's funny. It's not funny. >> No. No. Come on. No. I said it was funny. No. >> I'm tired of being frustrated. I don't want to be a to my kids. I just want to be a good mother to them. >> Well, you know what the good thing you did is that you reached out for help this morning and we're here. >> It's not fair to me. >> I got you. >> Okay. We're going to give you the best we can. >> She doesn't need me to be around me. >> I have two other kids. I couldn't even keep the other two >> cuz I had such a sorry ass person. I had them with her dad's sorry as hell. >> Are they the same dad or different dads? >> I have three kids who had the same dad and I have one other kid who has he has a different dad but his dad actually takes care of him and sees about him and all that other stuff. Her dad doesn't help me do. I can laugh in this room and die for all heing care. Like my aunt's been trying to help me. I'm trying to help myself. I just don't I just want to get stable first. Like >> and sometimes that's hard. You know that, right? It's not always easy. Some things going to have to look some comfort and get people feel like my daughter doesn't need to be around. >> I mean, you know, he in the year 1993, I want to be to my kids. with the first father, my child. I know what it's like when somebody's on you and somebody's hitting on you and making you feel bad. I know what it's like. I don't want to be that type of person to my >> children. >> Like I don't want to be that type of person to no one. >> I got you. >> I just caught an ill cycle. I can't even do nothing for myself or my kids right now. I can't do much. >> Have you worked before? >> Yes, I have. >> Where did you work before? I worked at plenty of places. I just had a baby in July. >> In July? >> Yes. So, I had to quit working. I was staying with my aunt. For me, her was buted head. So, she made me leave. >> Where's Where's your baby that you had in July? >> I gave it up for adoption. >> Okay. So, um what's your baby right here? I didn't remember. What's her name? >> Okay. Is that the only one that you have living with you currently or there's other ones? Yeah, I have daughter and I have a son, but he say over my aunt. >> Okay. Same aunt that you don't like. I mean, y'all don't get along. >> Yeah. I know she going to tell y'all to take her away, so I really don't care. >> Who? >> My aunt. >> We're not worried about you. We're worried about you. >> Nobody's ever Nobody's ever worried about me. >> We are. That's why we're here. >> You're concerned. So, when when was the last time you saw your aunt or been there with her? Matter of fact, how long you been staying here at hotel? Just last week. >> Just last week. We'll pay for that. >> You pay for it. >> Your auntie. Okay. Well, we got a wonderful young lady going to come talk to you. Okay. And >> what's going to happen to my daughter >> at this point? We can't make that call yet. This obviously needs some help because of the um call to line. And the lady that's going to come speak to you. She have more answers for you. She have more resources than I can. Okay. Just promise me you're going to listen to her. You're going to talk to her and be honest with her. Okay. All right. At first, she reacted when the police suggested alternative care for her child, but her maternal instinct [music] made her deeply concerned and caring, showing that love exists alongside life's pressures. >> That made me mad like to see somebody else holding my daughter like like somebody's better than me. Like, >> no. Feel like they'reing better than me and they can do a better job than do that. I'm sick of everybody else getting to go through stuff and then when I go through it, it's a problem and I'm bashing. >> Hey, >> you rather me hold your daughter. >> Some [ __ ] down there holding my daughter and acting like I'm just a stranger and I'm a to her. It's not true. >> You want me You want me to hold her? >> Give a hoot with her. >> Obviously you do because upsetting you that somebody is holding you want me to. >> I'm sick of telling you I'm not a good parent. I can be a better parent than you. Be the [ __ ] then. >> That's what my aunt wants. She wants to take over my [ __ ] kids and turn them against me and take them away from me. You can be a better mother. Be them. Who the [ __ ] tells somebody that they can be a better mother to their kids and they know all that theying went through. I don't give a let the [ __ ] do it then. I know I don't always have the resources, but I love my kids. Their fathers don't give a [ __ ] about them. I LOVE MY KIDS. THEIR FATHERS didn't evening want to be around. Her dad gave away his other two kids cuz he didn't give a [ __ ] Only reason I got to my daughter cuz he wasn't around at the time. And my first son's father, he used to out of me. I've never went through domestic so bad from a [ __ ] throwing stuff black in my eye, throwing glass ashtrays at my head. It's not right. And I around. I never told nobody. My family treats me like I'm crap. And you know I don't know my father. My mother's I lost my brother. I have one other brother and we DON'T EVEN TALK. IT'S NOT FAIR TO ME. EVERYBODY ELSE GETS to struggle in life and I do. It's a problem. [ __ ] intensely trying to make stuff me like I don't care no more. I'm not no bad person and I'm not no bad parent. I want to be a mother. I don't want to hurt my children. It's not fair to me. I just want to get right. [laughter] I want to be there for my kids. >> I don't have I don't have an ID. Do you have a ID? I >> only have a paper ID and it's old and it's ripped up. >> Police noticed some concerns in the living environment and quickly arranged for her to receive professional assessment and support at a nearby hospital. >> Yeah. I' never been over here all the way down. How y'all doing? >> Good. How you doing? So incident lady here she called the line this morning asking for help. >> Okay. She was going to kill herself and her baby minutes ago. She contacted her aunt as well via text message to see if she can help her pay the room. Okay. >> Cuz she's not able to. She doesn't have any resources to cut her off. I just want to throw that in there. She did tell aunt over text said she was going to the baby. >> Aunt come to get the baby. >> I can call her back and see if she can >> she's by she's saying that her aunt has a molested husband or something like that. She she she mentioned that we didn't think any further than that. And when she said sorry, I figured out here that she already know what you got to do. Hey, how you doing? >> Hey, it's M. >> How you doing? I said if y'all going to take >> Huh? >> I said if y'all going to take her. Tell me what's going on. My name is >> I said what was going on already. >> Okay. I was here. >> What's your name? >> In the jail house. Go ahead and do it. I don't have to worry about how I'm tired of worrying about it. >> I'm here trying to help you. All right. Trying to get you to the hospital to get some help. But in order for me to be able to do that, I got to get some information. Okay. All right. So, we going to get you transported to the hospital for um a mental health evaluation. I get the contact information from for your aunt to kind of figure out what we're gonna do with your baby girl and we just kind of go from there. Okay. >> I guess I think we're too much. Thanks, >> guys. >> The child was cared for by an aunt where additional pressures became evident. Financial strain, parenting stress, and signs of worry. This highlights the importance of support [music] from family and community to help parents manage challenges. Miss Naomi. >> Hi, Miss Gail. How are you? I'm Tasha who been speaking with you since yesterday. >> Oh, okay. It's nice to meet you. >> With the conversation that you had with her yesterday, how did that start? Cuz I know you told me about the text that she she sent you about wanting to How did that conversation start? >> Because she wanted me to um give her money to pay for her room. I paid a couple of nights for her room. And I told her, Tiffany, I don't have any more money to pay for your room. And she was going, "We need to go to therapy. I don't have no bus fair and I don't have I said, "Well, that's not my responsibility. That's your responsibility." You know, because I had to have Tiffany eat >> from my house. She left on Labor Day. >> Oh, so that was fairly recent, >> right? because I had to have hered before and I had the only reason I allowed her back because she was pregnant at the time and she didn't have nowhere to say no. No, she had a baby the 28th of July. >> So she has three children. >> She has four. >> Oh. >> But the two boys, the second child and the fourth child, they were adopted out to a family in Washington state to the same family. She has they have both of the boys. >> Okay. And so you got the Are they younger or older? The other one, >> the four-year-old, he's the oldest. >> He's the oldest. >> And I've been had him ever since he was nine months. >> Oh, wow. Okay. And the two that was adopted out. What are their ages? >> The newborn. And let's see, Jeremiah is three. >> Gotcha. >> So, she has a four, three, and a two, and a brand new. >> Wow. Gotcha. Gotcha. >> So, this not the first time that she has been assessed, I guess, kind of like um her children. >> Yeah. and see Tiffany her problem stem back from her mom was my baby sister and her mom from uh she had a brain tumor cancer the same kind that Jvita Moore hand that's what her mom had and her mom survived 5 years after her diagnos so she had surgery and Tiffany was young when this happened and she saw her mom health just deteriorate [clears throat] >> and then when her mama passed after that she just like spiraled out of control really >> and then that's when she started having these babies and Okay. >> So, and I think that's the root of her problem. And me and my sister tried to get help for Tiffany when she was 18. >> Okay. >> And she refused to help him because of her age, you know, nothing we can do because she she refused it. >> Right. >> Has she ever been hospitalized for mental health? >> No, not that I'm aware of. >> All right. And no diagnosis that you were aware of. >> Not that I'm aware of. >> Okay. All right. So, she was telling the truth on that, I guess. So, I know yesterday you mentioned that she was asking for funds. Mhm. >> So she could stay in the extended state. >> And then when did it kind of turn and get into the conversation about her saying that she was going the baby? >> When she was was was talking about I'm just no I'm just no good. I can't do nothing right and you know all this stuff. And then cuz I was on my way to a doctor's appointment >> with the four-year-old. Remember that? >> No. He was in school myself. I had a doctor's appointment. Gotcha. Gotcha. And so when I was getting ready to get in the car, that's when I seen the text about her, you know, going to kill Naomi. And I text her back. I said, "Don't this innocent child. If you want to do something, do it to yourself and not to this baby." When I got to the doctor's office, I tried to call Miss Head, which was the original, >> okay, >> defects worker that I had spoke with that had came out to the house originally. So, I couldn't get in touch with her. And I didn't know I didn't know where Tiffany was staying. So I said I can't call the police cuz I don't even know I didn't know where she was staying. So then by that time my phone rang. I think it was you calling it was Shan police calling me. Okay. >> You know telling me that they were there with Tiffan. I could hear her screaming and holling about you know the baby and >> Okay. Okay. So that's the first time you found out where she was basically. >> Mhm. >> Okay. Gotcha. So when you had her evicted, she was just kind of staying with different people. >> No, she went to that hotel. That's >> So she had been there ever since she was evicted. >> Mhm. Gotcha. Basically, when this kind of happened, that's when you kind of encountered where she was. >> Yeah. >> I know you mentioned that you were trying to be in a in a situation where you was trying to provide for her because you knew she wasn't like stable, >> right? And see, she wouldn't the only reason she left because she wanted to take both kids. And I said, "You cannot take because he's in school. You can't just snatch him out of school. He's doing too good now." Right? >> So, that's the only reason she left him here. >> Okay. And then like yesterday she started because see every time I don't do what Tiffany want me to do then she started using these kids as puns because she was the text she sent me one was I want my son you know when she can't get what she want she used these children. >> Gotcha. Gotcha. Gotcha. And do you have custody of her son? >> No I do not have legal custody. >> No no legal custody. So um do you have some sort of guardianship or anything? Well, the only thing the one the defects put in place yesterday because I'm a family member today and that's the only thing that I have. >> So, I'm just kind of giving you some authorization for their wellbeing decisions, >> right? And they also have in there that she cannot get these children until she gets some type of help. >> We talked about that. Yeah. So, that's a good thing. That was my concern. >> And it was for both the children. Correct. >> Mhm. >> Okay. So I'm happy about that cuz I know that was what you expressed yesterday and I was just like you know with this situation is unfortunate however it may be a blessing cuz now you able to provide for them. >> So I have been praying about this. I say Lord they going to work things out how we want them but he's going to work it out for the best. So I have the kids now. >> Good. Okay. >> So with this are they opening up a case with this or what did he say? >> He didn't really say okay because they were still working on it. So >> Okay. All right. So, I know the main thing they just wanted to make sure that she was in a safe environment. So, you probably hear from them again and stuff like that. So, just making make sure that they do add that stipulation um in her case plan about mental health evaluation and mental health um treatment and then of course it's on her to work it >> if she wants to eventually get them back. cuz I had always told Tiffany because after she had that last baby that affected her too because she had gave up two children because she had a breakdown one of her meltdowns here, you know, and this baby's dad and the new baby's dad cuz three of the kids have the same daddy and he never signed neither one of the kids birth certificates, you know, didn't want no claim or whatever to them, >> right? >> She was saying like, I wanted to keep my baby. I wanted to keep my baby. And I think that among other things >> it's just but she do need help. She really do. And so after she had the last baby, I think the hospital referred her to this program >> that she was going and she was taking therapy. I know she went to I know two of the sections. >> Okay. >> And I and she when she told me about it, I said, "Well, Tiffany, I said that's the first step. Admitting that you need help." I said, "That's where you begin and that's your start. You got to admit to yourself and realize that you need help cuz nobody make you do it. You got to do it for yourself. >> I agree. I agree. Well, we had that talk and so I'm hoping that maybe something kind of resonated, but you know, she got to want it for herself. >> I know. >> Yeah. So, I'm just glad baby girl in a good space. >> Yes. >> I know she going to take good care of her and stuff like that. So, >> did you all need any >> I need a couple things. One actually. I saw there's another I wonder if I get another picture of her head. I see there's actually something on the left, something to the text message. We're going to probably need that as well. We're going to be obtaining charges on her for what she did yesterday. >> Mhm. >> Um so, >> hey, children, most likely terrorists from the text message that she said she's not. Um, >> thank you. Yep. Thank you for allowing us to come over and talk to you real quick and get that in your >> The mother faced allegations related to child's safety and distress, but initially did not appear in court. When police could not locate her at Motel 6, a notice was issued. 2 months later, she was found at a hotel hesitant to leave when checkout time passed. >> Hello. >> I apologize. Okay. >> So, 5:25. Um, I mean, it's after 1:00. She had like 2 3 hours to figure out what she was going to do. Um, I sent my houseman up there after 11 to ask her what she checking out. Um, she called in the word. So, then I went up there about an hour ago, asked her. She said she was making a reservation. I told her I come back. I actually came back in 20 minutes instead of 10 minutes, and she still was just sitting on the bed, looked like she just woke back up. So I go up there again about 5 minutes ago and she's like trying to fight and basically taking her sweet time getting out the room. I need her gone. >> Okay. So you just wanted to leave. >> Yeah. She got to go and she need to go ASAP. So she needed to help her throw her little stuff in the bag. I knew that. But as far as her talking to me like that. >> So 5:25. >> Mhm. >> Tell her she needs to leave. >> She definitely needs to go. >> Thank you. Thank you. I was just getting myself What more do you want me to do? >> Chley, please. >> What? I told her I was getting my stuff together. What more you want me to do? You going to arrest me? Rest me to the ground. >> I want you to leave. >> You going to break my neck? Okay. I need to get my stuff together. >> She said she'd give me an hour. >> Well, the hour's up. >> It's not It had been an hour. She came up here at 1:12. No, she told you to leave now. >> Bro, I need to get my stuff together. >> All right, so get it together and let's go. >> All right, >> I'm not nowhere near done. So, y'all going to have to sit there and wait an hour. Like I said, >> no, you don't get about 10. >> I'm not doing >> You going to leave? >> All right, I can do that, but I'm not rushing to get my stuff together cuz y'all standing there. I don't give a [ __ ] about 12. I'm not scared of y'all at all. Got me [ __ ] up. I'mma take my time and get my [ __ ] together. Yes, the I am y'all. Standing all day for all I hear. Oh, no she didn't. She did come here at 1:12 and tell me, "Oh, I had an hour." It's been an hour. No, it hasn't. What time is it? 2:12. That's how long I'm taking to pack my stuff. It's 1:29. Call back if you need to. >> No, ma'am. You have until about 1:45. >> No, I don't. You going to arrest me? >> I don't want to, but I guess I just leave all my [ __ ] here then. >> It's up to you. I'm giving you 15 minutes. >> I'm not leaving without my So, if that's a problem, oh well, y'all need to start packing up again. >> Hotel staff had given early reminders, but delays still occurred, illustrating the difficulties families [music] face in managing responsibilities under stress. >> Hello. >> So, question. Did you guys What time did you guys tell her most recently when to be out? >> I told her about 5 minutes before I called you guys >> that she needed to be out at what time. Did you give her time or anything? >> Yeah, the first time I gave her 10 minutes and but I didn't come back up here in 10 minutes. I came up back up here like 20 minutes >> around. What time was that >> roughly? Yeah. >> Had to be like 12. >> Okay. >> But the first time I my houseman came up here, it was like 11:30. >> What time is check out? >> 11:00. >> Okay. So, let me ask you a question. Right now, we're telling her to leave. If she doesn't leave, we're going to arrest her for trespass. That's really >> Yeah, she she she needs to go. I don't care if she go to jail, but when she get off this property, she need to walk somewhere, not lingering around. >> Okay. >> But she is gathering her stuff, right? >> Allegedly, I gave it to 145. So, >> that's pretty long. Is she moving or is she still sitting on the bed? >> She's packing while she's cussing at us. And >> yeah, >> I'm not convinced she's trying to get packing in time. Yeah, she she definitely need to and she disturbing >> now like 145. Yeah, I mean she know that. She knows the hotel. You can't stay up in no hotel room without paying. That's common sense. And then she sit here and she, you know, cuss out my staff and stuff like that. And I've been working with her. It's not the first time she been late. And I've never said nothing about her because I, you know, I expect her to extend. When she calling my my my guys, you know, all the B words and then I come up here, you slam the door in my face and I've been trying to work with her like at at this point I'm done. So yeah, she's trash. >> Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Ma'am, I just want to let you know you have about five more minutes. All right. At that point, if you do not exit the room, you will be arrested for criminal trespass. >> So, I can't finish my stuff, right? >> As long as you can do it in five minutes, you can. >> Oh, it won't be done in 5 minutes. Don't you tell I got >> Well, I don't know what else to tell you. >> I guess I'll get arrest now. I have a hotel. >> You do? >> Yes, I do. All right, ma'am. At this point, you have to exit the room. >> Are you going to exit? >> I'm still getting myself. >> We could help you bring your what you have packed down or you could go to jail right now. What do you want to do? You need to come out of the room. >> You >> would you like me to grab your stuff for you and bring >> Yes. and bring my phone out and make sure you don't forget nothing. >> Watching everything. Make sure you don't get that blanket, too. I need that right there. >> My phone and my charger. her phone. >> That's all we're grabbing right now. I'll talk to him. >> I talked to the investigators. Um, they said you go to Springfield if you want to. It's not probably the last time that you'll hear from them, but you can go ahead and go down there with your kid and then we we know you're not skipping town. So, >> can you take this? I love you, baby. It's okay. Hey, they're just talking to me. It's okay. Yeah, we're just talking, so it's not we're not saying it's over, obviously. >> Uh, but we're going to let you go down there. Some nights, even a small argument can unexpectedly escalate and involve the whole family in legal matters. >> Sir, it was an accident. When we're angry, we see red. It was an accident. >> On March 9th, 2023, police received a call from a mother reporting that her partner had lost control during an argument. The situation began when she checked his phone, suspecting something, and woke him to discuss it. The presence of two children throughout made the situation more concerning. Hey. >> Hello. Is he here? >> No, he left. >> Okay. What happened? >> I had woke him up to ask him why he had been doing things behind my back on his phone and he got really upset with me and started disrespecting me. We started like pushing each other around. He pushed me. He threw that at me and then >> threw what? >> I go to grab my kids diaper bag because I had the keys in my bedroom back to my room. We walked past each other and I closed the door and I tried to put the baby's crib in for a minute. I even tried to like pace back without Come on, baby. It's okay. It's okay. >> I tried to put the crib on the door knob so he wouldn't be able to come back in and just leave him alone cuz I know how he is. He's persistent and he would try to continue to keep going. So, I just wanted to separate the argument. I even tried to hurry up and stack Vicks in the crib to make it heavier. But he still managed to push his way through. And I'm like trying to hold the door closed and he's like, "Stop it. Stop." And I'm like, "Please get out." He reached his hand in. He's me across the face >> on what side? I can see with the little red. >> And that was like it for me. I was like, "You're not about to do that again." I called my mom. She said, "Call you guys." So >> he slapped you. Then what? >> I'm pretty sure he just left. >> He realized what he did and he was like, "Oh." >> Yeah. He's never put his hands on me before. >> This is the first time this has never happened. When he reached in, was it like on purpose or was he just trying to reach in and grab something? >> No, he purposely he's like he's me. He's like you stop like telling me to stop, but I didn't want him to come in the room at all. I'm trying to tell him get out, separate each other because he's already pushing me. I don't know what's the point of trying to come back in. He me across the face and was like, "You stop." And then I'm like, "No." And I called my mom and he immediately left. >> Do you know where he went? >> No, I have like the all the car keys and stuff. >> You left on foot? >> Yeah. >> You got a picture? He's short. I don't even know what he was wearing. >> He was sleeping. >> He was sleeping and I had woke him up to >> So you went through his phone saw that he was had some infidelity going on, right? >> He woke him up. You guys went through a back and forth argument about it. >> He still has a beard and everything. >> Mhm. We've had arguments five, four, four or five years ago and shook them apartments and first and Kenner and um >> But you never we never got physical. >> No, but they still considered it. One of the witnesses there like a door broke down and one of the they still considered it a DB case. So, he did go through the anger management classes before and the court case. This is like the first altercation where you put him. >> Do you mind if I take a look at your face, please? Yeah. It's a little red. >> Mhm. >> Like make a big flash across your eyes or >> No, it was just a little little tap or >> No, it felt stronger than tap. >> I definitely caught me off guard cuz he's never put his hands on me. I don't know like what's going on with him, but I I'm tired. >> Does he have any keys with him? >> House keys? No, not at all. I have uh both house keys attached to our vehicle. >> So if you wanted to come by tonight, you can get in anyway. >> No. No. >> I'm going to ask you, do you want to pursue charges? >> No. >> Doesn't matter. State's picking him up. >> Okay. >> He's going to have domestic charges pressed against him for domestic battery with child, which means I'm going to put a warrant for his arrest cuz he's not here. >> Okay. So, if he shows up, um >> Well, could be it's a process, but yeah. >> Okay. And so, like, would he have a bond? Cuz he has work and I don't work at the moment. Not until the judge says one, which means he's going to be in jail for as long as the judge says. Then he'll set a bond and then he'll have a protective order against you. Probably set by the judge, which means you can't come. >> Even if his like name is on the lease, he pays all the bills. I don't know. I don't know how I'm supposed to do this by myself. >> I understand. I'm going to give you some some paperwork, some help for domestic stuff. >> I don't want to do that to him >> because of the fact that he you said he you there's proof that he you the state picks up the charges on this. So he should just like turn himself in. >> Better now than later. >> Okay. I don't think I can get in touch with him at all. >> Would save a lot of headache if he was just to come back and turn himself in. >> Please leave your message. >> Straight to voicemail. >> It's okay, baby. Mom, they're going to arrest him. Not answering me right now. And I can't go through this right now. No, we pushed each other around cuz I didn't even put I didn't him. >> Who initiated the pushing match? >> Me cuz he was just trying to dismiss the situation. Please just hung up on me. Hello. I know he's freaking out because they're not going to set him on bond right away. Mama, >> where did he say he was? >> He didn't tell me. >> So, is he coming back here or >> He shook me. He said he was walking back, so far. >> The man returned home after learning that police were involved. He admitted that he had let his emotions influence his actions. >> I'll be waiting. >> She woke me up because I have an Instagram from prior from before and we just got into it. We don't usually do this, but I'm I'm the only one that pays all the bills here. Please, I take care of us. I'm asking that you please don't do this. This never happens. I promise. >> Give me Give us a second. Please, please go back inside from the beginning. What happened? >> We were inside. We were arguing. She told me about an Instagram from before that I had prior that she seen me before and she thinks that I I do stuff behind her back, but I don't. So, she threw my phone. We got into it and she woke my kids up. So, we got into it and then after that she put me out and I walked up, told me I should call the police that they're going to come over here and all this. Told her why she had to do this. I I really don't feel like getting into this and I can't afford for this to happen. Don't have no money to pay all these type of things. So, I'm begging you. >> So, there's a couple details that I that I need. She woke you up. >> Yeah. >> You got to you I have to tell you. >> The shoving match happened, right? Tell me about the shoving match. >> She woke me up when we were shoving each other. She woke my daughter first. here. She was seven and then was like we got into it. >> Okay. >> And then she opened the door and I told her please to stop screaming. >> Okay. At what point did you >> after she tried closing the door on me again and she >> Okay. So she opened the door the first time. She tried closing it again. You reached in. Okay. Where were the kids? >> I'm just acting please. >> Yes. It was an accident. >> Accident or not? This happened in front of children. >> Based on testimonies from both parties, the man needed [music] to face legal responsibility. This is not about punishment alone, but to highlight the importance of accountability and understanding consequences within a family. >> Sir, it was an accident that's >> listen to anything you say can be against law. You have the right to attorney. If you can afford an attorney won't present you free by the court. You have the right to stop answering questions any time. You have the right to have attorney present any question. You know what I'm saying? You're right. >> You understand you're right. >> Sir, it was an accident. When we're angry, Lucy red. It was an accident. >> I'm sorry. >> Just take a walk. I'll be right back. >> Pockets on your no phone. See, look at me. When you reach through the door, it was an accident. Yeah. >> Where on that? >> Tell me how it happened. >> Oh, it was literally I grabbed the door. She said to stop and I said, "Okay." I told her just please and stop and then she opened the door one more time. And that's when all the altercation happened. I walked out right after. I was done cuz I already knew something big was going to escalate. And I told her she could please stop to not wake my kids up. I didn't want none of this. >> How did you her on accident? >> From when she had closed the door on me. >> What did you try to do? And when I was opening the door, it was cuz she was trying to hurt me when she was trying to press the door on my arm and I didn't forcefully open it. >> You got an idea on it on the back of my car. >> At first, the situation appeared to favor the mother. But after clarifying details, the picture became more balanced. >> Come to me for a minute. Child, please. Just to recap, saw a message. Woke him up. Initiated a push match. Trying to get in. Accidentally slapped you. >> Yes, sir. >> Your statement? >> Yes, sir. >> Turn around. >> Anything you say, Ken will be using against you in the court of law. Say your rights? >> Yes, sir. >> Bear those rights in mind. You going to speak to me? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, all the statements that I just made earlier are truth, right? >> Yes, sir. >> Take a look. Pockets hang out pockets on you. No. The mother was charged with domestic violence and endangering a dependent. In most US states, these charges can carry a sentence of 1 to 3 years in prison. In moments of losing control, adults not only affect themselves, they can also leave a lasting impression on children who are learning how to navigate the world and understand responsibility. >> Were you outside when it happened? >> Yeah. >> Did you do it? >> Of course. >> That was easy. The incident was not caused by a single person's careless actions alone, but by the lack of attention afterward, which drew authorities concerned. On August 23rd, 2025, police received a call reporting loud shouting and a potentially unsafe situation involving a pregnant woman and her young child. Authorities quickly arrived, assessed the scene, interviewed neighbors, and identified those involved. >> Where they at? >> Who's Take your hands out, guys. Take your hands out of your pockets. They had went inside to get food and so I was trying to say no because I'm trying I was going to get rid of everything cuz we we want to get clean. Like we don't want to live like this. You know what I mean? And my neighbor, she's mentally ill and she's for the past two days has been tormenting us, pounding on my window, saying that she's going to call CPS and this and that. And so we were planning on going to CMS. We just didn't make it out of the house in time today. And people seem wanted to go swimming. And so I still live at the terrace. >> Yeah. And then I found out that the pools don't open till the 26th regularly. I was trying to find different swimming spots and I didn't really find anything. Okay. >> Right before you start and do the right thing. and get in trouble, right? >> I just don't want my daughter to be traumatized, you know, cuz our neighbors been tormenting us. Like, she's she's mentally ill, been pounding on my windows and pounding on medicines, spending this within my daughter taken in tape. How old is she? >> She's 6 and a half. This week is her first week on the summer. That's the only child. >> Oh, yeah. >> Police checked the situation while listening to her long- winded excuses as the to the child was glaringly obvious. In the end, they decided to call the grandmother to take custody of the child. >> So, I'm just going to put you in back to my car just to uh I'm going to have my partner sit for real. So, nothing on you. Apartment's just going to patch you down. Okay. You're just going to chill in here for a while. We figure out what's going on. Okay. >> Like teddy bears. That's for you. That's yours. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. Do you like that? Cool. That's yours. What are you going to name him or her? >> Ah, you got to think of a name before we leave. >> My mom. She's just sitting over there talking to the officers. >> I want to talk to my mom. >> Just make sure. >> I have another phone. There's the one that's plugged in. >> Just my main cell phone. >> This is my two mama that >> I've got our mom. >> Yeah. Do I need to have her now? Are we both getting arrested? >> Got to figure this out >> right now. So, I'm going to tell you right now what the plan is. We're going to be searching. >> Okay. I don't want to do that with your daughter in the car. I don't want her seeing this. Please. Yeah. Oh, yeah. >> Okay. She's six, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. We're going to call have your mom come pick her up. >> Okay. >> Whatever happens from there happens from there. I'm not going to tell you that you're not going to get arrested cuz I don't know if you're going to get arrested or not. Okay. But >> if I do get arrested, how does that work? I've never really >> We're not going to play the what if games all day, right? Okay. >> Well, yeah. No, I know. I just >> So, we can tell you a what if scenario and it can go completely. So have her meet us here and we can explain further when she gets here too. Okay. >> I just need to Can you please come pick me so that she's fine? Thank you. Her mom is going to come pick her up so that we can do our thing in terms of jail and stuff. Let's just figure out you guys continue to be cooperative with us. Okay. Yes. Fair enough. Yeah. Okay. You have any questions at this point? >> No. >> Okay. Um >> is Whitney okay? >> Who's Whitney? >> My girl. My neon. >> Yeah, she's fine. She's just sitting chilling in the dark. Is she being charged as well? >> Well, it was also on her side of the forboard as well. So, it's on both sides. I mean, unless one of you guys owned up to it. You know what I'm saying? >> Okay. What's your kiddo's name? >> Yeah. Like I said, my mom's like, she's really not doing well. Like, this would be the absolute worst time for me to go to jail. >> What is she What is she? >> That's right. She turned out >> she's an alcoholic and she's just at the very kind of end of her Yeah. >> She's trying to get clean, but it's a bit too late. So, >> you guys are both trying to fight your stuff, right? She's fighting the alcohol. fighting flu and everything right now, right? >> I feel like we're at a place now where we can be clean. >> I mean, we're great parents and love. >> I don't understand you. >> Yeah. Yeah, >> you are. But she can't be doing that stuff around her. You know what I mean? >> Yeah. Even just Okay. You have the right to say anything against you. >> Yes. >> So, just give us Where does mom live with you guys? Her mom. Okay. We're in a rule. Hopefully, she won't be here too long. We just don't want to do that in front of your kid. That's not fair. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Excuses continued to be offered to justify leaving the child in the car. Do >> you have custody of her? Like full custody? >> Yeah. Is dad in the picture at all? >> Yeah, that is her dad. >> That is her dad. >> We both have full custody. Gotcha. >> You guys just make sure she knows that she's not getting taken away from us and that grandma's coming because >> we haven't told her anything. All I said >> our neighbor, we've been going through a lot with our neighbor and our neighbor was screaming yesterday morning. She's going to have to come take my daughter away because cuz she was trying to get me to get back and I wouldn't do it. She's been threatening say I'm calling doing it since February. She broke into my house with my grandpa's funeral thing and came out of her room crying yesterday morning because she heard all that. I just want her to know that she's not really away from you know >> she's not Yeah, we're not going to tell her anything about what's going on with this. She's sick. She doesn't need to know. Right. >> Said she's sick. She doesn't need to know that. >> Yeah, she's sick. She threw up randomly. >> No, I said she's 6 years old. >> Oh, no. I said she's sick. She did just throw up though from I hate she's got something to do with like you know Slim when Slim goes down we th her stomach she's been fine all day and all of a sudden we we were driving like to throw up and she was very strange anything inside your household that she get a hold of and >> no no no she's all right like no she told me she's got really bad allergies lately >> the grandmother quickly arrived to get to the bottom of the story >> so we got called here. Potential people passed out in the vehicle. Okay, we get here, there's paraphernalia and suspected what would be in the car that we saw right away. Okay, we're still figuring out what's going to go on with mom and dad and we'll kind of go from there, but we wanted obviously a familiar face with do uh the with a kiddo right now. Okay, I will say we are contacting DCS because obviously with this this is I mean is a very very very dangerous. So, we are on the phone with DCS right now and what they decide will be kind of the factor on what goes down. Okay. >> And they know there's a grandma. >> Yep. So, we we we've already told them that. So, that's what we're just trying to figure out. That's that's basically if DCS says, "Yeah, she's good to go with you," then we're going to release her to you and and go from there. But if DCS says something else, then you know, we got to got to kind of go with them. Okay. >> The little one lives at my house. >> Okay. >> Do they know that? >> Yep. Yep. Let me uh let me talk to my sergeant real quick. And then >> at this point, the child's safety became the top priority. Officers managed the scene while completing the transfer of the child to the grandmother and coordinating with DCS. >> Grab your uh grab your bear and your uh squirt gun. >> If you just want to hang out in the van and then when you you're good to go, we'll let you know. Does that work? >> Okay. >> Can I take anything out of the car >> right now? No. >> What will Can I get someone to take the car home? >> That will be figured out from from there. Okay. >> From what? We got to figure out if the car is going to be staying here. If the car is going to be staying here, then yeah, we'll we'll let you know that someone can come pick it up or if we're going to end up towing it, too. Okay. So, just go ahead and hang out. Um and then we'll let you know when you're good to go. Okay. >> In a car seat or anything like that? >> She was not. There was one in the car, but she wasn't in the car seat >> cuz it was located because it was located on the floorboard. Do you think like this child could have like easily grabbed it, you know, accidentally ingested it or anything like that? Like was she in reach of it? I mean, she just >> she could easily crawl over the center console and get in their lap or something like that. My partners are searching where she was right now, but it was out within reach for sure if she crawled over. >> I just don't know what the response time would be, but if grandma is there and she's able to care for the baby, then that should be fine in the meantime. Are they going to be arrested, too? >> Yes. And so they all all four of them, the mom, dad, grandma, and baby or kid live in the same house. >> And grandma is able to care for the baby? >> Yes. So, she's with the baby right now, but we're just trying to make sure that you guys are coming out. But yeah, so if they get released in the morning, they're going to go back to the house. >> I want to make sure that if DCS know, they don't have to come back to the house with her and I. >> Okay. >> They have someplace else they can go live without being with her. >> Gotcha. Okay. Well, we already told them that you guys all live together. >> Can you let them know that they don't need to come to the house? That's a big deal. I'd appreciate it if you can let >> Here's what's going to happen. We've told them what we know at this point based off our investigation. We're going to let BCS know the baby's responding out anyways. So, we're waiting for them to let us know if they're going to call out. >> That's where we're at. We understand your concern. >> I don't want her going anywhere. She doesn't have to. And she didn't have to stay safe at my house. >> She being the granddaughter. Is that your granddaughter? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, >> I need them to know that she will be safe and they don't have to come back to my house. Well, we'll work on I can't promise you that that's going to make a difference on anything. Okay, we will do that. >> Meanwhile, a call from a witness uncovered another mystery. >> Purple backpack she's looking at. I told the other lady cop, but I don't know where she went. It's my laptop backpack. It's got my laptop in it. They can search it. That's fine. But when they find that there's nothing in it, can you guys give it to my mom so it's not in the hot car and get ruined? >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> Yep. >> So, you are the one that called in this uh gray Honda Civic at the Circle K earlier, correct? >> Yes. Just a quick question from you because we're still out here on scene trying to kind of figure out what we've got here. What did you observe exactly to make you want to call us? >> They were in the handicap spot. I pulled into the spot next to them. When I got out of my truck, the passenger was kind of leaning to the I guess the left. The driver was like leaning forward. I went in, I got two sodas, came out. They were still in that position. Then I noticed that there was somebody I think in the back seat. So, they all appear to be on drugs to be >> okay. >> All right. Can you do me a favor? >> Yeah. >> Put that on airplane mode and then I'm going to take that. Please. The car is going to get towed. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, it's going to be a secure lot. So, whatever isn't taken is going to be in a secure lock. Okay. >> Police searched the car and found several suspicious items, further reinforcing their initial suspicions. >> Is this Jesus? How many phones are there? That was on the corridor. >> All right. I'm putting all phones in here in this bag. >> You serious? Really? >> Oh, is that in the back? >> Oh, yeah. They already told me apparently where some other this bag is where there's some stuff. And I mean >> I just save this or what? >> Straws. I'm going to lose count of all this stuff. >> Lose count of all this stuff. I mean at what point do we stop collecting all this? >> Throwing some of this away. >> We have more than enough for paraphernalia. Let me go grab some more bags. >> Jesus Christ. >> Why are we I had one of these, too. Why are we sinking? >> She said she was going to take it to the clinic. Why? Why? Throw it away. >> I know you have an issue here. for stolen this. >> Oh, nice. Slow night. Welcome. >> Oh, good. At least they have narcan to save each other. >> What's up about those two bags? In that green box, there's a black box that's in >> inside the green one. >> It's got like old tub. There's old cases. >> What's the What's the Pretty sure it's for that ironic. >> So, we located um paraphernalia, so burnt foil, and it's called a tutor, but a straw that was burned um right next to the child. in the back seat. And then we also found um an M30 which is in a black bag underneath her feet in the back of the car. Both mom and dad are going to be charged and arrested for possession of um possession of paraphilia and child. >> Grandmother's able to care for and there aren't any other additional concerns on your end and that's fine with us. >> Okay. After all, the child was taken home by the grandparents. Heartbreakingly, despite being elected, she still tried to defend her parents. They are not drunk. >> Hi. Are you doing okay? >> They do not drunk. >> Okay. So, um you're good to go. Take take her home. Do what you need. Obviously, there's no concerns with us with taking her. >> They do not. >> Okay. So, that's my mom take my daughter. >> Yep. So, she's going with she's going with your grandma or your mom. So, her grandma. >> So, you're under arrest, >> right? >> All right. >> Yeah. plan is is you're going to be booked into our jail tonight and then charges and everything will be going from there. Okay. Your car is going to get towed, >> right? As far as being bonded or bailed out, like >> that's all up to the judge. >> But aren't they able to do it even before I see a judge? Don't they set it like when they book you in? >> That's going to be So I'm pretty sure you're going to have to see a judge for this. So and then up that's up to them. >> When do I see a judge? Usually if I go in, we'll see. You're going to be felony charges. So, they'll be taken over to ITR tonight. >> What's that? >> It's like uh county and then they run court every however many hours. So, you don't have anything else on you that we miss, right? >> No, I see. >> So, before I start every shift, I make sure that there's nothing in here. >> I promise to be totally real. I'm just I'm just explaining that if I take you out and there's something here, it's yours. And then if you bring anything into the jail, that's another felony. Okay. >> All right. >> More complex legal procedures were discussed. >> Um, okay. So, they are both being arrested. I'll just tell you they're both arrested for data stress possession and in child endangerment just because they are being arrested. All right. >> Will I be able to bail them out and >> No, they have to see a judge tomorrow morning. You have any questions for me? I don't think so. All right, I think we have all your guys in contact. >> All right. Well, if you do not speak, you guys go. Okay. >> Meanwhile, officers tried to comfort the crying child who was still trying to defend her mother. They are very nice to me. >> You're going to see it soon. Okay. >> I hope so. They're very nice to me. >> I know they love you a lot. Okay. >> Listen, you're just going to hang out with grandma for a couple days and >> a couple days. I can't wait that long. My parents have always been there. >> It's not going to be It's not going to be a week. >> How many days do I have to wait? >> I'm not sure. I can't tell you. But it's not going to be very long. Okay. >> Does it mind if I get to talk to them before they go? >> They already left. They got put in a different car and left. It's just going to be for a couple days, right? >> I don't want to do that. They've already been there when they woke up. >> Then you have you have grandma, you have your dog. Everything's going to go down. Okay. I'm only going to spare it at my house. >> I'm going to give you this and then you're going to put that and you're going to hang on to the bear. Okay. Okay. >> This is not my mom. I I don't want to say it. >> I'm not She's already gone. She already left. >> That made my mom more trouble. She beats skipping school because I always am late and I don't want to not go to that school. >> You're still going to the same school. >> No, they might kick me out. >> They're not going to kick you out. Grandma's going to take you to school. >> No, I'm in summer break. [ __ ] >> Well, then you don't even have to worry about >> I'm off on two months, but I better than there when I >> I know, but you're going to Graham's going to take you. >> And I'm scared of Mary. I'm scared of her. >> Who's Mary? >> Is my crazy >> neighbor? >> Well, you call 911 if you're scared and we'll show up and handle business. Okay. >> We're not going to let you get hurt. Okay. Grandma's going to protect you. Grandma's big and strong. >> I don't trust neighbor. >> Grandma will protect you from Mary. Okay. >> People horrible offense. >> Oh, don't get the door. >> The mother faced charges of tea to a child. I'm doing an investigation into a child. I said that once already. That's now my second time saying it. >> But what's gonna happen from this point? >> We're gonna investigate right now. Okay. You're making this more difficult than it needs to be. You really are. You children in a car. >> But I just want to know where we're going with this. I think that's my right to know. >> We're investigating a child. I'm going to talk to you and question you and ask things about this. >> And I start that by identifying who I'm speaking with. >> I just want to know what are the next steps. What is the investment? >> You're going to give me your ID. That's the next step. You are going to give me your ID. >> What is that? Next, sir. No. No. No. No. Nope. No. No. No. No. Please. Please. Yes or no? >> I'll give you the ID, but I just want to know what are the next steps. I feel like you're not explaining to me what's going on. >> The next step is you're going to give me your ID. The next step is you're going to give me your ID. >> Okay. I just want to step over here. >> Give me your ID. >> I'm going to get just No. NO, NO, NO. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE. Please >> let go of the purse. >> It doesn't have to be my purse. >> You're right. It doesn't. >> However, she seemed to be struggling with something, making the arrest particularly challenging. >> No. No. No. No. No. >> Let go of the purse. That's my finger you got. Let go of the purse right now. You're going to get yourself a felony. >> Let go. Let go of your hand. Stop positioning. Let go. Let go of your hand. Let go. Let go of your hand. Do it. 31. Charlie. We're 10 4 10 15. >> No. Let go of the purse. We'll talk about it afterwards. Just let go of the purse. >> All right. We'll just cut the purse. >> We'll just cut it. >> No, it's okay. We're good. >> No, no, no, no. I can't help. >> Watch your leg. Watch your leg. Stand up. >> Can you just >> We're going to help you stand up. >> Can you just please be patient with me? We're trying to >> You stand up. >> I can't stand up. >> She has a She has a brace on her leg. So, we're going to go back towards me and up at the same time. Ready? Two. Three. >> Okay. I didn't see the leg. >> No. No. No. No. Listen now. >> They can't take my children. >> Okay. We I've tried working with you already. >> No, no, no. >> I've tried working. We're going to sit you in a car for now and then we're going to talk to you about it. >> They can't take my children. >> We're going to talk to you ABOUT IT. I'VE TRIED. >> THE ID IS THERE. >> I know. I've tried. >> No, no, no, no, no, no. Please. Like, come on. Like, the ID is right there. I I know but we tried. >> They can't take no help. Catch yourself. You don't relax. You understand? >> All I was asking was questions. >> I I answered your question. Did I not jump? >> I'm going to help you walk, man. I'm going to help you walk. >> We're going to go this way. I will bring you to the car if you refuse to walk. >> We'll handle that after sitting down. >> We are going to enter the store. >> She has she had >> in the middle of the tension, a strange woman suddenly appeared wandering around the scene. She's in You'll have to use like a wheelchair or something. We're going to do the car. Put her on. >> We're going to move the car right there. That's okay. Hey, that'll work. I'll make sure nobody parks here. That's okay. Hey, that'll work. Cool. >> Stay there. >> They're going to stay there. We're going to talk to you just like I was talking to you before, right? You understand why you're in handcuffs now, right? >> And did I not answer that question twice? It's all on the camera. Did I or did I not answer your question twice? I just wanted to know what the test was. >> I explained it to you. I said we are doing an investigation for child two children, one that was restrained, physically restrained in that vehicle that was not running, no AC. Do you understand that? >> Okay, we're here to help. >> Can you take off your >> What do you What do you need? >> Take off the cuff. >> Take off the cuff. We can't do that right now. That's a medical device. Can't touch that while you take it. All right. >> Thank you. >> Okay. >> Are you family, ma'am? >> No. >> I understand. You're putting me in this car just to talk to you, right? We want >> this. You're detained for this investigation. So, yes, we're going in the car. >> Okay. I'm just asking, are we going to leave the premises? >> I don't know yet. >> Can't guarant right now. We're just Right now, we're doing an in a complete investigation. >> Going to leave the premises. >> We don't have an answer for that right now. >> We'll give you all the answers. >> Okay. >> After we complete our investigation. >> I won't be able to sit with the cuffs on. >> You have to be in hand this way and I will end your race. Please take off the cuffs, please. >> I cannot take you out of handcuffs. You were able to drive here, right? You do. You need to turn around. >> I'm falling. I'm falling. I'm falling. I'm falling. Stand up on your leg. >> I'm falling. I can't. >> I'm holding you up. >> Then suddenly spoke up, making the situation even more chaotic. >> I can't. >> I'm holding you. >> You don't have any like ADA. >> You drove your right out of your car, right? But she also was had an handcuff and was able to fix her brace as she's requesting. Yeah. Trying to work with >> I understand that she's actively falling. >> She's also not helping. >> Even getting the mother into the car turned into a challenge. >> I'm going to help you as best I can. >> Put your arms right here. Sit down. >> I have your balance if you want to put your right leg into the car. >> Just a second. I can't do that. Let me bend the brace. Okay. And then I'm falling again. I I can't do this without using my hand. Please. >> Go ahead. We'll go ahead and >> take this. It's up to you. >> We'll just have her sit in that thing. That's fine. Okay. Stand up one more time. >> I can't get up. I can't get up. No. No. Please. >> Are you comfortable? >> I can't get up. Please. Please take off the cuff. Please. >> Hey, give me a favor. >> I'm not going to leave. I'm not going to do anything. Please. >> Okay. I'll resist again. >> I won't. I won't. >> To the point where police had to remove the cuffs. And at the same time, the reminder of the risks children face continued to echo. >> Get comfortable. If you needed to lean back, do so. Okay. That's fine. >> All right. Okay. Now, just get comfortable. Relax. Okay. >> Okay. I can just be like this. >> Your IDs and your purse. Correct. Yes. >> Okay. We're going to take that now and identify you. Okay. Do you understand why you were just being detained? Yes or no? >> Yes. >> Thank you. >> You left two children in a car that was not running. One again was restrained in a child's seat. Doesn't matter for how long. It was long enough for somebody to crawl in. Okay. The children couldn't even open the car door on their own. Then when you come outside, you're insisting that you're going to leave and you're insisting that you're not going to give me your ID or identify yourself. I just Okay. >> And this is after I've just explained exactly what I just explained to you now. So now what we're going to do is we're going to continue our investigation just like I said we would. These officers are going to do that. Do you understand that? >> Okay. Thank you. Starting my room and show me how to work. >> Can the kids please stay here? >> You can stay here for right now. I got some uh like he was saying I got to do an investigation. Okay. >> Are you okay with me? I'm just going to make sure again. I'm going to grab your ID out of your purse. >> Can you give me my wallet to give it to you? >> Sure. >> What's your first thing? Whatever you want to do. Got it. All right. Michigan or Minnesota. Are the kids in the airport? >> I think they took them. So, I'll just let them know what's going on. >> Yeah. Just have for one second. >> Yeah, of course. Cuz here's the thing. If you want to go through with whatever you want to do, that's fine. >> As the situation gradually came under control, the mother grew calmer and began offering a series of excuses. >> You did that. I could charge you with battery on Leo right now. >> What? >> See that blood? >> That was an accident. >> No, it was not. No, it was not. I was telling you that you were squeezing my finger. That is from you. Okay. >> But I Do you see my hand? So I couldn't walk though. I couldn't get up. >> That was when you were over here still standing and refused to let go of your purse. When a law enforcement officer gives you an instructions, you have to follow it. Especially when you're detained. All right. So right now, this is one of my options. If I don't get cooperation, I'm just going to get you for battery on a law enforcement officer. >> Resisting without battery on a law enforcement officer. >> Okay. Please make sure that we get full cooperation. Understand? >> What time did you think do you think you got here? I see you're wearing a watch. Did you check the time or anything when you got here? >> What is it? >> What time do you think? >> Probably still two, right? Probably like 2:25ish. >> 2:25ish >> or like Yeah. 2:20ish that time. >> Were you in the health center or were you in the actual in the Walmart store? >> I went to get water and diapers. That's all that's in the car. >> Okay. >> Why did you leave the children in the car? >> Because it's difficult for me to maneuver with them. I I just wanted to run in quick to grab it so we can just go. That's all. >> And you turn the car off. >> I didn't want him to press >> No. You accidentally put it in gear or something? >> Okay. Do you know that in the state of Florida so far this year, seven children have been in vehicles that were turned off in this heat? >> Yeah. So, right now, >> but since children were involved, the case's [music] seriousness couldn't be ignored. The mother was handcuffed again. >> Okay. I need you to face me and I need you to put your hands back behind your uh back. You're under arrest. Okay. And before we do this on you, you can you take this off for me cuz I don't want it to get broke. Okay. >> Yeah. We're going to I'm going to get that. So, go ahead and face me. Put your hands behind your back. Right. >> Oh, what's going to happen to me now? >> You're going to go to the jail. >> My arm was already on. >> Oh, that I don't know. It's your your first appear appearance before the judge will be tomorrow morning. >> Tomorrow morning? >> Yeah. >> And how about my car? >> We're going to uh go and talk to Walmart and see if it can stay here. If it can't, then we'll uh have our uh towing company come and get it. >> And will it have to pay to get it out? >> Uh I believe, but I don't know. I've never had to uh everybody usually works with us and I've never actually had to have them tow a vehicle for this type of thing. They've always worked with us and the vehicle's always managed because it's legally parked and it's out of the way. So they may just allow it to stay there. It's up to Walmart on this. All right. >> So were any of the charges felonies? >> Yeah. >> Which one? >> The uh the two aggravated child ones. Yes. >> That's a felony. >> Yeah. >> Yes. Like I told you this year in the state of Florida, we already had seven children from this exact thing being locked in a car that's not air conditioned. Your children could have misrepresenting what time you um you're misrepresenting what time you got here. >> Okay. And it's and you got here a lot sooner than what you were saying. You got here at right after 2:00, like 2:02, according to the security video. >> Okay. The mother, Nyakobo, faced two counts of felony child [music] and a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest. Under Florida law, these charges could carry a maximum [music] sentence of 11 years in prison or probation along with fines of up to $11,000. Police also revealed that Nyakobo showed no concern for the children's well-being, yet asked for the patrol car's air conditioning to be turned on for herself. [music] This raises the question, is remorse real or just a facade? We've just witnessed situations where the line between peace and tragedy is razor [music] thin, just one moment of inattention, or a single argument away. While the law may impose strict penalties, [music] nothing is heavier than the regret or worry carried by parents. Through it all, what remains are care, safety, and the moments when families are looked after and protected.
