As parents, a child's safety, and responsibility must always come first. Cooperation, careful preparation, and trusted support are key to avoiding unfortunate outcomes. >> Don't leave me. I don't like >> No, I won't. I'm going to stand right here. You'll see me. >> I don't like >> Okay, fine. While the child was still feeling uneasy about being the adults him by himself with a toy car and he slowly made his way toward his grandmother's house. On February 24th, 2024, Charlotte County authorities received a report of a young child found alone on US41, not dressed appropriately and riding a batteryowered toy car. Officers responded quickly, gathering information from witnesses and from the child's own account to locate her family. >> Hello. here. Okay. >> He's just behind you. >> We came along and he was driving on here going this way. >> On that way. >> Yeah. And he was on this side of the road here. >> Hey buddy, >> we're trying to get some info. So, this is what we gathered. He says it's about two or three miles away. When he left their house, I don't think he's very short. He's not dressed to leave or anything. It looks like he lives on his own. It It doesn't look like it was a country trip. >> Gotcha. >> So, do you know what they're here for? >> To help to help you to find your grandma's househ. >> So, what's your last name, bud? You know your last name. You >> said your last name was Is that what you said, bud? Parker. >> Okay. Maybe a Shannon Parker would work, too. I keep my >> So, you just leave you leave. You leave with mom. >> Bake shop near my grandma's house. >> There's a bake shop. >> Bake shop. >> It's a big shop by your house. By the shops. >> Is it by the shops? >> No. Trip shop. >> Trip shop. A trip. Shock or shock? >> Shock. >> Shock. >> I think there was house somewhere down there. >> Do you mind just read your nose? >> Did mom know you're leaving? >> Yes. >> She did? >> I told her. >> You told her. And what'd you say? >> You take us You take on a way to get there. >> Okay. So, you remember where you came from? Like which way is your home? That way toward that way? It's down the road that way. >> Yeah. I go to the >> Would you be able to show me if we went for a ride? >> I can go to grandma's house. >> You know where would you be able to take me to grandma's house if we drove? >> Okay. I can take you there. >> Yeah. >> I don't know what to guess here. >> Do you know grandma's last name? Is it also Parker? No. What's grandma's last name? >> Shannon. >> Shannon, right? You want to come sit in my car? >> She's somewhere down there. Here, come sit. >> Uh, I mean, you guys are okay. >> Huh? Don't worry about him. >> We'll get him home. I'll try and get him home as best I can. >> So, so, so you are in the big car now. Look at you. It's like the movies. >> I'm going to grandma's home. >> Yes, you're going to grandma's home. Nice to see you. Byebye. Thank you. >> Hi, everyone. >> Yeah, that's what he was saying. He lives right down there. >> 20 DCF investigations. >> Oh, nice. Okay. >> Shannon's grandma. That's what he told me. So >> yeah, the house is right around >> where you want to go around to mom's house then. >> Yeah, >> cool. >> Thank you so much, guys. >> That's me blocking it. >> Once in the vehicle, the child appeared very friendly. But instead of sitting in the front as planned, he chose the back seat. The place usually meant for bad guys. Ironically, behind those bars sat an innocent little angel. >> We're going to go see mom. Okay. >> Why? >> She gets to tell you. She gets to take you to grandma's house. Okay. Is mom home? >> No. >> She's not home. Where is she? >> I was at grandma's house. >> She's at grandma's house? >> Yes. >> So you left? So mom went to grandma's house and said, "Oh, as long as you get there." >> Yeah. Jeez. >> I guess we went to grandma's house. >> Okay. Well, what we'll do is we'll go check in with mom. We'll take you to grand we'll take you to grandma's house and we'll go from there. Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Here. You want me to take this out so you can sit in the the car properly? Oh, maybe I can go back. >> Well, I don't want to put you in the back. It's dirty. Where all the bad guys go? You're not a bad guy, right? >> I I like to go in the back. >> You want to go in the back? It's plastic. You want to come see? >> See? >> I like mature. >> I hope that there's no problem at home. >> No, there you go. >> And that he knows what to do. You got to put it in there. >> There you go. >> You mind taking our number so we know what happened with them later on with him? >> He lives right around the corner. We're about to go return him. >> You found >> Yeah, we know where mom is. Yeah, that's where the my partner went. He went to go down to talk to mom. So, he's going there right now. >> Bye, love. >> Bye. >> Stay well. It's very nice to meet you. >> We'll see you in the future. Okay. >> Say bye. >> One day at the park or some place. Bye-bye. Say bye. >> Bye-bye. Thank you. >> Yeah, no problem. You got to take this one, too. You got to grab that one and put it in here. There you go. >> Why take the seat belt? >> Huh? >> Why? >> Cuz Well, when I put a bad guy in here, you can't put on his own seat belt. So, I got to put this one on. So, it it keeps him safe. Cuz then what I do, take this. It actually comes apart. Look. Take this and it straps it down. Keeps it even safer. Right. And you put it in there. You want to do that for this one? So, you just grab onto here. Grab on. There you go. And then you pull until you're nice and snug. And then you put it back in the hole. I don't know if you'll be able to. You're all strapped in now. >> There you go. >> I can shut now. >> You want me to shut it? >> You want to hang out in here? You want the window open? >> I already did it. >> You already did it. How'd you do it? What? >> Yeah. Got the window to go down. >> No, I'm not going to take you to prison. >> Nah. Well, I mean, yeah, you have the bars. Oh, what? You wanted it down more. This one won't go down. This stays up so the bad guys don't get out and they don't run away. >> I hope it go out there. >> What? >> What if somebody kicks that? >> Oh, it's it's metal. It's really strong. It won't be able to kick through it. >> What if it doesn't break? >> It doesn't break. It's metal. so much. >> Maybe don't go to the hammerhead. >> Well, that's why they can't have anything on them when they get in the car. >> What did the secret hide something in the pocket? >> I mean, that's true. Well, if they did that, then someone didn't do a good job searching their person. They didn't make sure that they were uh they didn't have empty pockets when they got in the car. >> I go to do >> What are you going to do? >> We didn't take our life inside. >> Yeah. How was I going to do? >> The conversation then revealed something even more concerning. No one was home and the child had no choice but to look for an adult on his own. >> Shut the door. >> Let go. >> Huh? >> My mom is not home. >> One more time. >> My mom is not home. >> She's not home. What about your dad? Do you know where your dad is? >> My dad. >> Oh, that's not good. Who's a Cringle? Who's that guy with the last name Cringle? Does your mom have a boyfriend? Is that who's staying at the house? >> No, that that that's my dog. That my not my dog name. >> That's your dog's name? >> Yeah. >> So, who's at your house now? >> Nobody. >> Nobody's at the house. >> Only my dog. >> Only your dog. H. >> Yeah. >> I guess like I had nobody there. >> That's not good. Did you feel alone and that's why you wanted to go to grandma's house? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> So, go there. >> Well, well, give it a second. And if mom's at the house or not at the house, that's where my uh partner went to go check. He has a dog. You ever seen a police dog? >> No, >> I've seen other dogs like this. >> Yeah. >> They're pretty cool, aren't they? >> My dog. >> What kind of dog do you have? A chicken. >> Huh? >> Chicken dog. >> You have a chicken dog? What? >> Chicken dog. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> That's my chicken dog. >> Yeah. I'm going to close it for like 2 seconds. I'm going to be right up front for a second. Actually, we have the window down. My partner said, >> "Was everybody sleeping or >> he's saying nobody was home?" >> Nobody was home. >> That's what he's saying. Where was grandma? >> He said he was sorry. He said he was on way to grandma's house and he left mom's house. And mom's house is this way and grandma's house is this way. So where was he going? >> He was going this way according to the uh people that found him. But uh he was going towards grandma's house which is off of Orc or or how far away? >> I didn't I was talking to him and I was kind of doing research in Asus. I can look now. But I believe that's the same place K95 is at. >> It's that one. Which one? >> The black one. There you go. >> Which one? >> Now shut that door. >> Okay, I will shut that door. >> No, no, no. I thought you were going to get out. >> Can he get out or no? >> I mean, he doesn't want to. >> You don't want to get out? >> No. He's He's not very happy with mom, apparently. So, we're just kind of rolling with it until they release him to him or until figure out what's going on and how we got out. >> Going to talk to her. >> Yeah, you're good. The window's open. >> So, what are you doing? The mother and grandmother were quickly contacted regarding the mother's legal situation. Meanwhile, the child sat calmly in the back of the patrol car, unaware that the bad guy mentioned earlier by officers was actually his own mother. >> So, give me a couple seconds. Let me talk to big man and then I'll be right back. Okay. >> Hey, Sarge. >> Sorry. I wanted to get with you before you talk to him. >> Yeah, you can talk to him. >> Open the door. Can I open the door? Yeah, just keep him. >> Yeah, sure. Uh, they accept it. >> Okay. So, they can >> They said 24-hour response though since he's home. But they said >> she's going to town. >> Yeah. So, or we can give it to grandma or give him to grandma. I said we can take him to I said have him go to either place and then he she was like, "Well, we can't determine which place." So, I said he wants to go to grandma. So, I said have him go to both addresses. He'll be at either one of them in 24 hours. >> So, we're going to have neglect here. So, >> keep an eye on the kid. >> Okay. >> I'll talk to her. I'll give you the I'll end up, you know, I want you just to remain with the kid though. We're going to talk to her and try to get a statement from her. Um either way, we should probably write any kind of statement. I mean, an accident or something like that. You know, there's a medical emergency that we're about. That's really the only excuse if you can't. >> You still want me to ask grandma if she's if she's like sick and stuff or not? >> Nope. >> And then she said she called her. You were still out front, but she never came out. She knew the kid was out on 41. She never came out of the house. >> Yeah. I'll let you go into that. >> I'll let you go into that. >> Okay, perfect. >> All right. >> Are they arresting her? >> Yes. So, I will update you now. So, this is a thing now because she knew she knew he was out there by himself. >> And she the statue goes by supervision as well. So, >> well, I wait. She That's a little incorrect or some miscommunication on our part. >> What part? >> Whatever. >> Can I say >> and then as well as him too, please? What's up? >> Just give us a second. Okay. >> We're going to relax. >> No one. You're okay. You're not in trouble. Okay. >> I was just We have to talk to mom and stuff. Okay. >> Okay. >> Don't leave me. I don't like >> No, I won't. I'm going to stand right here. You'll see me. >> Keep a door open. >> Okay, fine. I'll keep the door open. You broke a window. >> Coming. I'm going to close the door for one second. I have to. Okay. My boss is calling me. Give me one second. Okay. I'll be right back. No, don't do that. >> Yes, >> I got it. >> Just going to hang on. [Laughter] [Music] You stupid. I'm good. Reach over and grab the seat belt. You're all right. >> We just have >> Okay. >> In the end, the child was taken safely to his grandmother while the mother continued the necessary procedures at the station. >> Some pants. >> I got you right here, man. Look what I got. >> I could I I took your chicken off. >> Okay. So, we're going to get out and we're going to end up going to my car. Okay. >> I'll get you your slides and then let me slide closer to you. and then I'll make sure that mom gets to talk to you before. >> There you go. We're going to >> please. >> Uh that I'm not sure about. Uh let's get in there >> cuz I really don't want to be in this. >> I understand. Let's get in there and then we'll help. Then we'll work on that. Okay. >> Let's We're going to sit in the back of this one. >> I get you. >> You don't want me walking around everybody in >> Oh, 100%. The mother was taken into custody at Charlotte County Jail on a charge of child. Under Florida law, she may face up to 5 years in prison or probation along with a fine of up to $5,000. This case serves as a clear warning. Children are not yet able to fully recognize, especially near potentially hazardous areas. Even a brief moment of inattention can lead to unpredictable consequences. A child cannot protect themselves. And what saddens many the most is that the person who should have protected the child instead unintentionally placed them in way. >> You got a baby crab inside of your bedroom. You got a blunt half smoking blunt on the nightstand. >> On June 23rd, 2024, police received an emergency call from the uncle of a 15-month-old girl. According to the report, the child had accidentally come into contact with an unsafe substance left within reach by the father. The situation was treated as urgent. The child was quickly taken for a medical check while the father began the formal process with authorities. >> Howdy. How are you? [Music] >> Oh, we had to figure out what happened that we went to the hospital. So, what what happened? >> I was in my living room watching TV. I was flat out with you. I was about to roll the blunt. >> Uh-huh. >> And I stopped, sat it down, went and took a [ __ ] real quick. >> Okay. >> And she ate it. >> Was this >> I know it comes in various strains. What kind of strain are we talking here? Like one of those pie THC ones. >> I don't know. Just some >> like is it a medical type? Like the kind you get from those doctors and stuff that are like professionally >> No, this shit's half brown. Um, how how big was this one? >> Probably about a gram. >> Okay. What time was that? So, that was probably about 7:30 8 and I noticed about 8:30. She's real stiff. So, that's when I I called her mom, got her in the truck and called us up to >> Why didn't you call us like an ambulance? >> I thought I'd get there faster. I didn't >> Jacksonville. >> No, no, I went to Flaggler and we were there till probably 11:12 and then we got transported to Jacksonville. Yeah. I I went I went straight to the by the Flagler bridge. >> Oh, I thought you went to Jasville or something. >> No, no, I would have definitely called you. >> So, about an hour after all that happened, you What were you thinking when like you went to the bathroom and it's gone when you come back? >> Has this ever happened before? >> No. >> Do you watch Daughter? Daughter, right? Yes, sir. >> You watch her often? On the weekends? Is that where your custody is or like weekend custody? >> No, we we don't have a custody. It's just her mom lives in Jacksonville, so that's where she goes to daycare and then I just get her on the weekends. There's no child support custody. >> You're not married or nothing? >> No. >> No. >> Going to jail, aren't I? >> I mean, I I don't make that decision, but we're here to try and figure out why a one-year-old's in the hospital. So, we have to figure out what's going on with all that. How much more is here? >> I threw it all away. To be honest with you, after seeing that, we don't give a about smoking that anymore. I I don't give a about it that much. >> How come I I just don't get why you didn't call us at all? Even if you thought you'd get to the hospital first, >> like even on the way like, "Hey, kid's going through something. I don't know what it is." Like I I wasn't I freaking out. I just I got in the truck and I out there. I And this 7:30 and what time did you get to the hospital? >> I want to say I I I noticed they're doing this around 8:30 and that's when I I was probably at the hospital by 9:00. Maybe a 25 30 minute drive from here. As soon as I noticed what something wasn't right, I >> How many pe How many kids you got in here? >> Huh? >> Any other kids here? No, not right now. They're with her. I got two kids total and they're both with her. The ones in the hospital just >> who just left. >> Huh? That was a girl I talked to. She took me home from Jacksonville. My truck was in Flag Flaggler. I rode in the ambulance in Jacksonville. Okay. >> So, she brought me back here. >> Oh. So, is that your girlfriend? >> We're talking. We're not >> defined. Yeah. >> So, you have a baby mama that's not in a relationship, but you have a kid a kid in common. >> Yeah. >> And this is a different That's fine. I just want to make sure I'm fine. figure out what's going on. >> Yeah. No, no. Me and the daughter's mom are not together anymore. >> But you get along? >> Yeah, absolutely. >> Okay. All righty. No other drugs here. >> No. >> You mind if we take everyone else? >> Can we walk through and make sure you got >> my dog and put them in the pin real quick? >> Making sure you got food, water, all that stuff that you're supposed to have for children. >> Well, I need to go grocery shopping, right? >> Well, I mean, we're not if you got a little bit of food that we get it like people go through cycles. It's not infinite supply. That makes sense. >> Let me grab. >> Okay. >> While other officers continued to inspect the home, the father remained outside calmly speaking with police. >> He was standing here looking at me. So, it's too late now. >> He said 7:30 or something. He was rolling up a blunt form. He had to go take a went to the bathroom while the kid was gone or while he was gone. Any weapons or anything that you know we're worried about? What's in the safe? Okay. >> We got running water, electricity, all that. He's like pointing it out how it all went down. >> He himself in 2019 and I just took over the payment. >> I feel like I remember this. >> Bob Spiegel Halter. Robert Spiegel Halter. Maybe >> he had a couple incidences, didn't he? Of attempts or something. >> I have no idea. He was >> Was he Baker before? >> I don't think so. Nothing that I know of. >> Maybe it was that guy. >> Yeah, >> someone there's an older guy back here somewhere. >> Lady over there >> and he had some problems going on for a while. >> Was it? Okay. I haven't been over there in forever either. >> Wow. The construction give you a problem. >> That loud construction? >> It ain't too bad. I know when they were repaving the road that way, it was backed up like this. And I remember I sat in front of my grandpa's driveway right there for 30 minutes waiting to pull around here. >> Nobody welcome to I was I was coming this way and all the car was just going that was aggravating. I got mad. They only did half the road, didn't they? >> Yeah, they stopped right at the bridge. >> That's weird. >> They're probably waiting on the roundabout to finish. Well, I think they repaint all that up there, though. >> I don't know. I know they added or something. >> They're doing some weird stuff about [ __ ] I don't know why they're doing them on there. >> They're putting them things in everywhere around here. Uh, it's the third one recently. >> I know there's one going forward. >> US one. Then they had the one out Dixie now. >> Yeah. Yeah, that one too. That one has a lot of little accidents. It kind of seems like the semis flipping over and whatnot. >> Really? I didn't notice that. >> I know that you get some random ones like bike week of bikes ramping up it probably going 100. But I don't remember any semis. I know they it's really tight for them to try and go around uh like that curve. They go up on the shoulder a lot, but it it doesn't matter what you do, people are going to die. >> When the rid's notice was read, the inspection concluded and revealed a series of serious concerns related to an unsafe living environment for a child leading to legal consequences for the father. >> All right, Cody. Um, [Applause] you >> I'm going to read you something like that. >> You have the remain silent. Anything you say may be as evidence against you. Your arrest talk attorney have him or present now or anytime during questioning a four attorney want to be appointed representing you. So anytime you wish to stop talking have your attorney present. [Applause] I know you kind of briefly explain to this deputy here on what happened. Can you kind of get in your window what happened last night in that first room on the left? Yeah. Roll one up. I didn't finish rolling it. So back I had to go. I had to go. I run into it. Come back. I didn't eat all of it, but it >> How much? >> Huh? >> How much was it? >> Probably about half. I was like, you know, a gram or something. >> So about just about half grand a week. >> Yeah. Give or take. And >> she's a month a year and a half old. Yes. >> How heavy is she? >> Oh god. She's not the big She's not a big kid. >> A little kid. >> I come back. >> Yeah. Everything's about right for a minute. Then I kind of see she just seems lost and clenched up. >> So I I called her mom and got her in the truck and brought out to the hospital. >> Why didn't you call us? >> I freaked out and I don't know. Uh, by the time y'all get out here, I'd be out there. I don't know, man. >> You need to notify us at all. >> I got to the hospital and told you what happened. >> No, I shouldn't have to come here looking for you, wanting to talk to you about something that happened last night. At this point, >> from the hospital, >> you still haven't even tried to bother to call law enforcement any sort of way. Your uncle had to call us. As a father, you should be the one. You're you're the caregiver for that child. That is your responsibility and your sole responsibility. If something happens to that child on your behalf and you think something's wrong, we are the first people you should call. We have stations all around here. The problem is you still didn't even call. >> That's hostile. But you know, you're not freaking out the whole night. >> What's the deal with the What's the deal with the loose everywhere? You got loose all around the house. >> You got a baby crab inside of your bedroom. You got a blunt, half smoking blunt on the nightstand. You have loose grinder bonnet residue all over the the countertop on top of dog everywhere. >> Dog piss everywhere. >> I ain't been home. >> But if if you're going to have a child here, you should clean up after yourself. And >> I have not been home. >> This is not that's this is not a liable environment for a child to be in at any point in time. So right now my body arrest >> if you could store >> go right in front of my truck straight back there's a gate but please >> I I have to lose him like >> Oh that dog. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> We're talking about that dog and that dog because obviously you're not north here. that we need to figure out who can be able to take care of animals. >> All right. Other than that, >> or at least bring them food and water and all that >> other that we need. So, your grandfather's next door. >> Yeah. Go right in front of my truck. >> You you'll literally when you go through that gate, you'll walk through the yard. >> What's your name? >> Richard. >> Notably, the items suspected of being linked to the situation were entirely denied by the father who stated that he had not used any restricted substances. [Applause] Thank you. [Applause] Can you do a good search on them, sir? Get you over there. That's the vehicle. I get you to spread your feet apart. All right, let's step forward. >> Anything in any pockets you can help me? Nothing. Do you have any other in there besides when's the last time you used? >> No. >> Never. You didn't overdose last year? >> Oh, I did, but I didn't. >> I had a drunk panic attack. You had a drunk panic attack. Okay. >> That's pretty different than an overdose. >> So, you want to be the only I was drunk. I had one last few months and I started freaking out. Thought I was overdosing. I don't know. I don't really shredded tin foil on the floor. >> You ever been to the wandering hook? >> Step back over here so we can open that door. >> Turn your butt towards the seat first. Got it. >> All right. All right. Do you mind if I reach around and grab the seat belt so I can taken into custody at Flaggler County Jail on a charge of felony child abuse. His bond was set at $2,500. The mistake was not only allowing the child to come into contact with unsafe objects, but also the delay in seeking timely help when the child needed it most. Leaving a store without payment is not uncommon in the US. But this time, the situation took a more concerning turn when the mother brought her child along. >> You got any toys in here? >> Socks coming off, bud. >> It's okay. It's okay. On January 31st, 2024, Bowling Green police in Ohio received a call from a Walmart about a woman suspected of leaving the store with her child without completing payment. When employees attempted to stop her, she quickly got into a vehicle. Officers later located the car and made contact with the woman. >> Come here. What did I say? Come here right now. Turn around. Face that vehicle. Put your hands behind your back. >> What do I do, sir? >> Is there a car with a cop car with lights on behind you? >> Yeah, I stop. >> Then why are you popping out? Hey, I didn't see you. >> Don't lie to me. You just said you stopped. >> Oh my god. That's why I stopped right here. I just got freaked out. Sorry, I have PTSD. Please calm down. Two people were following me around in the store and as I was walking out, I left my car and ran out here. Sorry. Please >> stop moving. [Applause] Please >> stand up. >> My son's right there, sir. >> Yeah. >> Sit right there. >> Can I please check on him? >> He's fine. Did you put him in the car seat correctly? didn't know cuz I was trying to get away. I was scared. >> Get away from what? >> Dude, I even asked one of the girls everywhere I went in the store. I noticed that they were walking around following me and so I freaked out. >> Is this your purse or your bag or what? >> Go through everything. I don't have nothing to hide. Sir, >> is this your purse or your bag? >> That's my diaper bag. >> Your ID in here? >> I would have to look. So, I'm not going to run. I swear to God, I'm running out. >> I have PTSD and I freaked out and I ran out. Sir, I'm sorry. I left all my groceries I paid for and everything in the store. Blazy's crying. Sir, please. Can I check out him? Please. >> You can see him from right here. >> He's crying though. Let me go. >> Babies cry. >> He's sitting fine. He's got his bottle. Babies cry. >> He's already on you. >> No. >> Don't Don't reach it. >> I'm sorry. >> My name is Alison. So, please guys, my son is really upset. Please. Everything. Everything is in the store. >> Are these sewn shut? >> Still I'm not sure. >> Do you have anything in your back pockets? No, >> sir. All right. >> I didn't steal nothing. I didn't steal nothing. Go ahead and >> put her in your car. >> Am I going to jail? >> Well, we're going to figure out what's going on. >> Can I talk to somebody, please, and explain to them what happened? Put me in a car. We're putting you in a car >> because you already kind of took off on me already. >> That was not what I was trying to do. I was trying to get out of here cuz I was scared trying to have a seat. That's it. That's it. Everything is in the store. Have >> a seat. Raid her rights and then talk to her. I'm going to check on the kid. What was unexpected was how the mother referred to her past emotional health challenges in explaining her rushed decision to leave. >> All right, miss. We got to read you something. Stay in the car. >> Stay in the car. I'm going to jail. I don't want to. >> I got to read you these. >> Can I explain to you what's going on, sir? Listen. I have PTSD. I >> Stop. Stop. Let me read this. You have the right to remain silent. >> Hi. Oh, where'd your bottle go? Here's your bottle. Oh, you want your bottle? Let's put you in your seat correctly. Okay. How about that? We put your seatelt and everything on you correctly so you don't wiggle around. I know you don't like it, huh? >> Do you understand your rights, >> guys? Please. What's going on, sir? Please. >> Well, we were told by loss prevention that they tried to stop you cuz you were trying to take stuff out of the store. >> Can I tell you what happened? I left everything in that store. My car, even groceries I paid for off my credit card. Where'd you leave them at? >> Right at the doorway, sir. right in front of the meat section like where you can get the deli stuff. And I was freaking out because I watched the fat guy. I have PTSD, sir. If you look me up, you'll see I've been involved in multiple domestic violence situations. Okay, I can name three guys that have crap out of me. So, I asked the female that was walking around with the guy around the store. I said, I was one once before, so I'm just asking cuz I'm freaking out a little bit. Are you guys like secret shoppers or something cuz you guys haven't got any stuff and I've seen you guys following me around everywhere I go. She said, no, we're not secret shoppers. Blah blah blah. I said, okay. Then I went over and I checked myself out and I'll admit I was nervous as I think I scanned everything. I'm not sure if I did. It was an honest mistake. Okay. And it's still in the store. But I freaked out because the guy I was going to go out that door right there and then I noticed the guy was still behind me. So I got nervous. I walked to the other side and the guy follows me all the way over by the deli. So as soon as he like turned the corner at the deli, I freaked out and bolted out the door cuz I was scared. That's it. I swear to God you can look me up and >> I can't go to jail. My son, please. Can I just Can one of you guys bring over here and just put him on my lap or something, please? Nobody else. No one will take my son. >> I have my cooworkers talking with your son right now. >> Put your arm through here. Put your arm through here. >> He's not just by himself right now. >> In this case with anytime Walmart calls, a shopper is going past all points of sale. Once you go past all points of sale, it's theft. So, even if you leave the stuff in the store, it's still theft. >> What? >> It's in the store. Everybody scanned something. Okay. But like, what? Everything is in there. The phone is in there. >> They were trying to talk with you. >> I know. And I freaked out, sir. I'm not lying about the PTSD. I put a hand to God, sir. Hand to God. You can look up Danders, Zack Fountain, and Chris Hunt. Those are the three last people I was with, and they all got charged with domestic. I'm not kidding. I follow my mom right now and even she'll tell you how bad I get. >> What? >> You good? Need help? >> You want to finish putting that one on? See, it wasn't He wasn't in the food. So, >> putting it on him. >> Yeah. >> You're okay. >> I'm with the child. >> You got any toys in here? >> Sock's coming off, man. >> It's okay. It is okay. >> Is that your sock? >> Is that your sock? >> All right. Do you have a driver's license through Ohio? >> Yeah. Am I going to jail? >> We're going to figure this all out. I had to make sure to put your kid in the correct seat cuz he wasn't buckled in. He's going to get charged for that, too, cuz she threw the kid in there and then took off >> here. >> You can give him the bottle and just shut the door if you want. I mean, I just wanted to make sure it was secure. >> There you go. Is that better? There. >> A prior history of similar incidents dating back to 2018 in Oregon along with an existing suspended case outcome made this situation more complicated. >> I'm really not seeing what. Yeah, there's a bunch of junk in her car, but this thing's I don't think that's from I mean that's a bag of clothes. So, you know, there's not a lot of loose stuff from other stores really. I don't know. I'm trying to wait to see if there's actually going to be a charge out of it. >> They said they wanted to trespass her. >> They wanted to trespass her, but you know how they are sometimes I can go down kind of find out what he's saying or she she saw me, took off, tried to cut through here, so I swung in behind her, threw on my lights right away. She tried to get out. When she saw that she wasn't getting away from me, she threw it part, ran around to I don't either to take her son and run or to buckle him in because he wasn't buckled in. I was yelling at her and so I hooked her up and she said that she was being followed and that's why she ran cuz she was trying to steal stuff. I don't know if she went past point of sale or if she was going to. The way she's talking, she made it sound like she ran out with the card. So, I just got to make sure she got past that. Guessing she has some prior >> like I'm already on probation for a felony got indicted for forever ago. So yeah, I admit I ran out here. They were trying to talk to me, but I have a problem of where if I get way too much anxiety, I freak out. When I freak out, I get extra bad. So I was freaking out. So I would have stopped and call me, talk to them, and let them go through my cart and see what was scanned and see if there's anything that's not and they could have kept their stuff and trespassed me. I don't care. But I can't go to jail over this, dude. I was already freaking out trying to scan my stuff. >> Okay. How much was it? A whole cart full of stuff or was it Is that what it was? Just a whole cart. the pillow I was going to get and I didn't scan the pillow, but I think that's I left that on the fountain top of the fountain. I'm trying to remember. I never not remember anything. >> They're going to have video of the whole incident. So >> that's fine >> cuz they're going to show us what what all transpired, what all happened. You can't remember everything in the video video doesn't lie. I mean, this is recording right now. >> You can't go to jail by >> Have you ever been charged with theft before? Um, I had a petty theft. That was out out of Oregon, though. And that was like 2018, I think. >> Okay. Was that from a store or like what was that? >> It was from a Myers. >> A Meer. >> Somebody go talk to loss prevention. >> He's talking to her. [Music] >> 71. >> All of these factors made it challenging for officers to determine the most appropriate next steps for both the mother and the child. [Music] Hello. >> Hello. >> It'll be 400. >> Oh, for sure. So, basically, she walks around the store, collects a bunch of stuff, rearranges everything in the cart, hides some of it, gets it in a selfch checkout. She pays for one or two items. Then, she uses a fake barcode to scan a couple things, leaves a couple things on the cart, and doesn't scan them at all. Proceeds through selfch checkckout. She tries to stop her at this set of doors. She goes to the far set of doors, makes it into the vestibule. They're trying to stop her. She goes back in, ditches the cart, and leaves. She made it past all points of sale. >> Yeah. >> Twice, technically. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> All right. Well, um, >> going to go speak with them. >> With me? Am I going to jail? >> I don't know yet. Usually when people like try to evade us and whatnot, like >> I wasn't trying to evade nobody. I was trying to get the out of here cuz I was freaked out about that guy. I tried running. I didn't hear them say they were anybody. I swear to God. When I the guy started like runningish like fast walking running towards me and the girl like darted out of the corner at me, I freaked out and just started running with my son in my arms cuz I was freaking out. That's the goddamnest truth. >> Normally with like thefts like if it you haven't been cited or charged with theft before, like you get your citation, you leave. That's usually how we do it. In this case, there are certain situations where we take people to jail. >> Please don't. Please don't. I've seen they flee. See if you'll take my son, sir. Please don't. Please. Where does your mother live? >> Florida. >> In Florida. Do you have any other like friends here by chance? Anything like that? >> No, I don't want my kid to end up in a He has a bad health condition. Swear to God, I'll show you his medical record. He has an autoimmune disease. He has to take special medication every day. >> Okay. >> Please. >> She's probably going to go cuz she tried to take off on me. The kid wasn't buckled in just I think when she was getting pulled over, she realized that. That's why she >> jumped out popped out on you. >> Oh, she jumped out of the car, too. In my opinion, she needs to go with the kid like taken off like this she did on me and the kid wasn't even buckled in the city. >> But she stolen from you guys before. >> Yeah, that's good enough. >> If if this is her with that date of birth, then yeah, back in November of 2022, >> you know how about how much it was? >> I got oversee your >> Oh, perfect. >> For us, it's always before tax. So, it's 2814. >> Okay. 28014. >> 21 items. >> And she also had a inactive warrant, too. So, even if she didn't have >> Yeah, that's fine. >> The biggest thing is going to be that is going to be the issue. I'll try and figure that out. >> Sorry. >> All right. Well, let me shut this door. >> Guy, >> he's one of my co-workers. He's training. >> Is he one of those? Is he one of the the >> No, he's not from the store. >> No, not from this store. I'm saying like the children take the >> No, he's just he's just another one of my co-workers. Oh, let me shut the door so I can talk with him and see. >> Please don't shut the door. I'll get really nervous. Please, please. I'm so scared right now. >> I'll turn the heat up right now. Let you warm up cuz >> I don't want to warm up. I don't want my son. >> All right. Well, we're going to figure this out. I'm >> so sorry. >> All right. Just give me a minute. I'll be back. Like she just freaked out cuz she thought she was being followed and then started she said she was scanning stuff but didn't scan everything but then said she left it in the store. I'm like, "Well, if you go past all points of sale, it's still theft." You told me she's been charged with theft in the past, >> like 2018. She don't have any family around here. She thought you were with like child protective services. >> She's going. We got to figure out the kid thing. She's been She stole from them before. Hasn't been trespassed. Okay. >> I really don't care about what her story is unless she admitted to it. >> She She admitted to it. use her paranoid pee or um PTSD and goes through Harvard, can't take her anxiety pills, medication patient. >> That's all a lie because she she basically she covered stuff up in the cart and then used a fake barcode at the selfch checkout to scan some items but not all. >> She doesn't have any family around here supposedly. >> All right. Well, I guess the kids >> After clarification, authorities identified two main concerns. leaving the checkout area without completing payment and placing a young child in a potentially unsafe situation during the incident. >> JFS, we'll see. We'll see how quickly a family comes up. >> Alison, where are you from? >> Here in BG. >> Here in BG. Who can we release your child to? >> Nobody. There's nobody. Sir, >> you need to come up with somebody. >> Am I getting arrested? >> You're going to jail tonight? Yes. You're getting multiple charges. Yes. >> For what? Multiple charges. >> You're getting You're getting charged for the theft and you're also getting charged for child endangerment. Child in danger, man. What? >> You whipping around here with your kids, not buckled in. >> I'm scared. They were following me. So that's a lie. We have it on camera. >> Call the cocoon. They will tell you I am with them. I have domestic violence issues. I just got away from the father, sir. I wasn't fleeing. Please don't. >> I should have them, but I had to. I didn't see you. I was fleeing from them. That's it. I was running from them cuz I was scared. >> Whoever you were fleeing from, your child was not buckled in. That's why you're getting that charge. Alison, you need to talk to me so we can figure out where >> could I get bailed out for something like this >> potentially? Could it? Yeah, I mean, you'll have a bail depending on how much was the the cost of what you stole. If it's over $1,000, then uh it's going to be a felony. So, >> they said it was a cart full. So, >> we need to figure this out. Allison, >> I wasn't running from you. I swear to God. >> You were running from someone driving like that. And that's why you're getting charged with that? and I don't think right when I'm scared. So, >> okay. So, when they stopped you at this entrance, why'd you walk to the other one? >> The guy started walking really fast. And then he said he said something and I didn't understand him. And then I the lady came around like the corner and between the two doors, but she didn't just like walk up to me slowly. She like ran almost and scared the out of me. And that's when I started running. >> Were you scared of them? Is that why you were using a fake barcode to scan items? >> Is that why you were hiding stuff in the car? >> Because I just am stupid, sir. >> Okay. You can understand how you're doing one thing, but now you're telling me that the reason why you took off and didn't buckle your kid into the child seat was for another reason. Why? It's hard for me to believe that. >> You can look up how many times I've had to press charges on somebody for domestic. >> I believe that you're a victim of domestic. That's not what we're talking about here. What we need to figure out is where we're going to take your son to somebody court date and come to court. >> You're going to have a court date, but you're going to jail tonight. So, we need to figure this out. >> Can I call the baby's dad and see if >> we can call the baby's dad and and talk? Is that who you've had uh your domestic incidents with? No. >> What's his name? >> Chris Hunt. >> Chris what? >> Hunt. H U N T. >> Didn't you tell me that guy's name like when you were naming off the guys that have you? >> I don't think so. >> All right. Anybody else other than Chris Hunt in case we can't get a hold of him? >> My mom. Not my mom. >> You don't want your kid going to your mom? Cuz I don't want to call JFS. I'd rather because basically what JFS is going to do. >> Don't get him. Just call Chris. Get him. >> All right. Here comes the door. Go ahead and step out for me. Can I give him a kiss, please? Just let me give him a kiss. Can I get my lawyer's number out of my cell phone, please? >> Yeah, your cell phone's going to go with you. >> I'm so stupid, man. >> I really I do want to apologize. I really wasn't running from you. I as soon as I saw the lights, I stopped. I didn't notice the lights, I think, cuz you were too far back. But I swear to God. >> All right. >> I didn't know. >> Go ahead and have a seat for me. >> Is there any way I can get his number out before we go to the jail? Cuz I'm just going to freak out being in here, man. So, just don't leave me in here too long. I don't want to have a PTSD episode. >> An officer by. So if you start yelling for us cuz you need a window crack or something. >> I can like sit back here with me. >> That's what this officer is going to be doing. >> Crack the window a little bit if you want. >> Yeah. >> Is there any way if I give you my car, you just give me a water right there? It's so thirsty right now. >> A lot. It's going to be a few minutes. Kids doing good. Chilling. Took the whole bottle. All right. I'm going to have you transport her up to the front cuz they need to serve her a trespass. But I'll just have you go up there. Yeah. Go up to the the grocery side, the home and pharmacy side, and come out and then serve her and then just kind of wait there. All right. I'm going to run out to Wes, make sure she knows what's going on. Hang out here until just make IDM. Just double check it's who it is. >> Chris Hunt. >> Yeah. And then I'm I forgot to ask her about that diaper bag. Are you good with the diaper bag going with dad? >> Okay. Okay. So, I got to go take you over to where asset protection's at. Just give me a sec. We're going to be transporting a female over to Walmart's asset protection sir with their trespassing. >> You are no longer allowed on Walmart property or in any area subject to Walmart's control. If you elect to ignore this and enter Walmart property, Walmart may contact law enforcement and request you be charged with criminal trespass. Even being in my parking lot is no longer acceptable. Okay. Yeah. I don't want to see you ever again. All right. Questions or concerns about that? >> I told her she's going to get the child in danger. if you want to read it. She basically she said she was trying to come up from me. I really don't care because she when I came in this way, >> she kind of whipped around and so I flung around behind her and she's swung around in there. But I'm willing to take the like we have the the criminal injuring children, but like if they she didn't have that, if she stole from somewhere to me, that's I don't care if she got charged or not charged in my opinion. >> I agree. So, the theft and injuring to children. >> Look, again, this is I'm not telling you what to do. Like that. That's what I would do. >> Okay. Without the child buckled in, she was driving kind of erratically. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right, Alison, there are a couple items that you did legitimately pay for. He sorted through that. He's got those with your grocery bag. >> Despite her past hardships and current emotional stress, the situation still had to be addressed through standard legal procedures. >> Chris, sir, >> are you Chris? >> Yeah, I went over there and they're like, he's gone. We don't I'm like, what do you mean? Like I did not come ac shortly after. So >> what happened? >> From what I understand, came out without paying for some stuff from the store. By that I don't know him the entire time that I don't know. Hope it was worth it. Like she's already in trouble like in the past trying to I don't know if it's probation or what. >> I don't know what the actual charges are. If you call the jail they'd be able to tell. >> I just got off the phone with them on my way here. endangering for taking off with him or trying to take off with him inside. >> That that makes sense cuz the car seat wasn't completely strapped in and stuff like that. So, >> are you kidding me? >> Some of them are perishable items. So, unfortunately, we can't take those to the jail with you. Would you be okay if we took those items and gave them to the person picking up your child? >> What if I said no? Then what would happen to them? >> Stick them in your car, but if they're perishable, not I mean, they'll probably go bad in your car. So, it's up to you. They can either go in your car or they can go with whoever's picking up the child. >> Just put them in my car. >> Okay. >> Yeah. We're waiting on dad to come pick up the kid cuz I don't want to move the car with the kid in the car. >> Right. Absolutely. We'll put all those items in the vehicle then. >> Not a problem. Did you get the diaper bag? >> Oh, not yet. This is her parents right here. >> Okay. >> She didn't leave no formula in there. So, >> there might be a little bit on the side of the bag. >> He just woke up. >> I say he was he's been sleeping for a while. >> Yes. >> I'm going to go to Walmart with him and get some. >> I know she has formula. I was just there today babysitting him. She asked me for see if I can just crash there tonight so I don't have to drive them all. >> No, I'm not leaving you in her apartment without her permission. I'm just not doing >> That's what I'm saying. See if it's all right with if I just crash literally there last night. I just go home. I just got formula. Whatever. >> Well, you might as well meet me at the apartment for diapers and stuff. You know how much is in there? What do they mean when they say she tried to run? Like why is her car here? Did she steal gas? >> No, something from Walmart some things from from Walmart and she was running from asset protection. So >> all the way >> but um >> and she she drove her car over here. Yeah, that's when we that's when we got out here. So, there were other officers that were involved at that point, but we'll get this. >> What the hell did she steal? >> That I'm not sure, but we'll we'll get this parked and then get her stuff out to hers. That way you guys can get what you guys need and go from there. Okay. >> Okay. >> Yes. >> Talk to you for a second. >> Yep. >> I'm starting to freak out. You've came and helped me at my house before. Okay. >> I have a little domestic violence. I'm just freaking out back here. I'm freaking out about the whole situation. And I just was wondering since you're a woman, if you could be the one to take me. >> If I am the one that takes you, it'll be a little bit longer. Um, I can't transport you right this second, but I can double check. Okay. >> You're going to jail anyways, miss. So, don't really matter. Why is she that scared of a male officer or what? Uh, she's dealt with her before, so maybe she just got a rapport with her. >> I told her she's going to jail, so it doesn't really matter what's going on. >> Yeah. And sometimes it's one of those things where somebody if if they can get a little bit, I don't want to say call it power, but she's, "Hey, can I go with you?" And we say yes. like she feels better about it and maybe she won't cause a problem and there's no skin off our back no matter who transports her. >> What was she do? Did she drive into the obviously she drived in the gas station but >> I pulled out real quick throwing my lights had to get in front of people to pull out. Saw her flying that way. She was must have come like down this way but she was like flying. I was like holy cow. I'm 100% sure she saw me and I already had my lights on. I was throwing it in park cuz she immediately popped out cuz then I thought she was going to grab the kid and run. I'm like obviously I can't with a kid in the arms like how am I going to stop her? Uh, >> the mother was charged with theft and childment. Under current Ohio law, she may face between 6 and 12 months in jail along with fines of up to $2,750. The story ends with a heavy reminder. When emotions override reason, even a single impulsive decision can leave lasting consequences for both adults and children. The nightmare didn't end there. Now, let's head to Illinois, where a single nearly pushed a three-month-old baby to the edge between life and death. >> I rocked him finally went to sleep. On October 3rd, 2024, police were alerted by the Department of Children and Family Services about a 3-month-old infant from East Molen, Illinois, who had been rushed to a hospital in Peoria with a serious law enforcement immediately responded to the scene to investigate. Initial statements appeared to insist that the baby was perfectly fine. working on right now. I was just wondering, do you do you live here? >> No, I'm It's my daughter you're talking about and she's in Poria with her son. >> Okay. >> So, we got Do you mind if we step inside so I can kind of you fill you on some situations? I don't want your neighbors to be involved or anything like that cuz I don't want her business to kind of go out to the apartment complex. >> So, at this time, like I'm I'll be honest with you, no one's in trouble when incident like this happens. >> Situation, excuse my language, is really up to be honest. My child did not her baby. Neither did it. This is just a messed up situation. Okay. >> I just I I'm flabbergasted how and how it just keeps escalating and I'm just >> and I I fully understand your frustration of that part. You know, it's it's a incident already. >> That bathroom door. >> It's incident already, but I know you guys are going through a lot, but you know, for us, we kind of have to like, you know, follow procedure as you know, a lot of this is very I'm trying to find a back cuz I got to take clothes back up. So, >> no, no, you're fine. However, you know, we're just trying to figure out like kind of what happened and just rule out any possibility that your daughter or her boyfriend or >> about boyfriend. >> Okay. Boyfriend did anything. Right now, this is kind of like a check in the box for us. >> Can I get my kid's dad on the phone? Get Kayle's dad on the phone cuz he's at the hospital. >> Yeah, of course. >> And my h, you know, cuz I get up in the morning. That's what she does every Wednesday. >> Okay. >> So, she dropped him off. He was perfectly fine. Happy baby like he normally is. I got him out of his car seat. you know, he was dried. So, I changed I didn't change him. I did fed him his bottle. Okay. >> And he's smiling a normal normal kid like he normally is. >> And after I fed him his bottle, he ate, of course. So, I changed him. And then we sat in the rocking chair, turned on some white music, and just rocked him like I normally do, and he went back to sleep. So, I put him in the play pen like I always do, and I swaddled him cuz he sleeps better. And I kept the white noise going. So, I turned on the TV because it kept me busy cuz I won't go to sleep with him, you know. So, I've got I had her there, too. She was well, she's in her room sleeping with the dog. I got her up, got she was getting ready, and as she's getting ready, I'm taking care of the baby, feeding him again, changing him, whatnot. And uh he's normal. And I mean, no crying, no fussing, just normal and fine. And I got him loaded. I put him in his car seat. We left about what was it? I had I think 7:30. >> Okay. >> And got in the car, took her to school. She sat and sat in the back with him, you know, talking to him, singing to him, which is funny. Anyway, um singing to him, and you know, you know, he did really good. and didn't cry, just jabbered like he normally does and dropped her off at school and then I went and got I got him like something like this >> to put him in. So, I have one at home, picked it up at Target and Kaye called me, said she was off. So, I said I needed her here. So, I came here, I called D. He didn't answer the phone. So, I figured he was sleeping, but he had actually texted me actually in the midst of all that. I had to just to see how his baby boy was doing. And I tried calling him back, but he must have been already asleep. >> So, I tried calling him when I got here. He then didn't answer. I just waited in the car until she got there, got in the back seat with him, took him out of his car seat, you know, and held him and just gave him another bottle. >> But then an ambulance was called. >> What What time was that at that you came back to drop her off? >> Uh, probably about between 8:30 and 9:00 >> at night. This in the morning. >> Oh, in the morning. Okay. Okay. Sorry. No, I'm good. I know how long you >> I'm just trying to keep these times in my head. >> No, no. Like for my just trying to process everything cuz this this is just >> What was your question? Where were you at the time? 8:30, 9 o'clock when I got over here. Is that about right? Because we called you, right? >> I talked to you guys 9:30. >> Okay. So that because I was already here for a while before we called you with you guys at 9:30, about 10:00. >> Okay. You probably got here around like 8 8:30ish. >> All right. I might have told him wrong then when I left. >> No, you're fine. Like, so you basically came here around like that. >> I'm talking about the social worker because I'm trying to get keep the time straight in my head cuz this is all like trying to keep all these dates and times right in my head. >> No, you're fine. Yeah, I was >> talking about Wednesday. >> Yes, I know. But I'm taking make sure the time of when I left here. It had to have been a little after 10 after we were done talking with you. When I left here after we got the phone with you because Kaylee went to lay down with him cuz I stayed here to help her for a little bit so she could get herself together. >> So you got here around 8ish. You made a FaceTime phone call with him around 9ish. She left around 10ish when he was when Kay after 10. Yeah. >> She went and laid down with him and whatnot with and D was laying in bed. Went down and they laid down and whatnot >> and then I left. Not sure. >> You had already left around 10:00 at that point >> and I had just checked in. >> You were texting her, calling her throughout like that time frame >> until she went to work. I I had texted De and D had said that, you know, they're doing good. That was sometime after 2:00 and they were doing fine that he was he was getting ready to lay him down for a nap and last I knew. So, I mean, as far as I knew, everything was fine. Okay. >> Cuz when she left Yeah, cuz she was off early and to him that was early, I guess. >> But you were already here. I I was here in the I was in the parking lot at 8:30 and I had checked her location and she was I knew she was on her way. She said I was a far mom. So it was about 8:45 when she had pulled into the next to me and I had taken him out because I didn't want him to sit in his car. >> So I took him out and I got in the back seat with him and just sat there and we talked cuz he didn't take all of his bottle. So I gave him the rest of his bottle and >> you guys came inside and he kind of like chilled out a little bit. >> I carried him in and she carried the carrier and you know >> and then you left around 10:00 you said after 10. >> Okay. And then you received a phone call from her later that night at like at 6:00 around those hours. >> I got a call from him from dad and then Kaye called me short like I was talking to him when Kaye called me from the ambulance. >> Amid the tense situation, it was reassuring to see the police remain calm and act responsibly. This isn't an arrest. It's a mandatory procedure in suspected child cases. >> And then uh so uh Brandon, you're Kayle's dad? >> Yes. >> I'm going to sit down. >> Yeah. Yeah. No, you're fine. I should have told you if you could sat down earlier now. Sorry about that. >> I can be facing. >> Yeah, that works. All right, Brandon. So, like I kind of mentioned before, I'm not sure if when the FaceTime started as far as uh kind of why we're here. We got the uh DCFS report earlier in the week saying that there was a child that got basically transported from this residence and then the parents are involved and everything like that. Um Okay. >> So, we then got informed today that the child's going to be brought to Peoria. Like I'm I'm sure you're already aware of that. and now you know the things aren't good for the child. DCFS and local law enforcement when it comes to anything like that as far as child child life or anything like that, we have to investigate. I'm not saying that anyone's in trouble or anything like that. We're just trying to get the facts at this point. We're the factf finders right now. As far as criminal charges, there aren't anything like that. I'm just trying to get like piece together what happened. That's why we're here. I want to give you guys a clarification on that one. We're just kind of we're just finding out information. >> I'm sorry. I'm tired. I've been really >> Oh, no. Like >> Yeah, we haven't had much sleep. >> Yeah. Like I like I talked to Andrea before like I understand this is a incident for you guys. >> Trying to keep everything straight too when you're exhausted >> and I trust me I hate being the guy that's asking you guys the same question a hundred different times >> and that's fine and I've got phone calls and I've got car records too of when you'd be at a certain place that's ever needed. Got it in my phone. You can have the phone record and see when calls were made if you need it. You can have location, whatever we got to do because I want to get to the bottom of this how things have happened. >> Well, Brandon, I appreciate that. How about I get some uh simple information right now? No, you're you're fine. >> So much stuff. >> No, no, I understand. You know, like you guys are probably all over the place like that, too. I fully understand that. >> I'm going to tell you every detail I can >> Well, I'm not going to lie either, but I just honestly forgot that. >> Okay. I think >> I mean, it was no physical. It was just Yeah. just kind of like a little couple's argument like always >> that I just didn't like and you know cuz there's times where they'll argue in front of me that they wouldn't say in front of her in front of him. >> I just that's just certain things that I will say you know she don't like me telling her dad things. Well there's certain things that I need that he needs to know. There's certain things that can stay between mom and dad. >> That was something that needed to be said to him because he listens to him more on certain things he doesn't. >> No I get that. Kaylee, the exhausted and overwhelmed mother, suddenly panicked when my son's heart rate is jumping. It appeared the condition of the three-month-old baby was still extremely critical. >> I think that's all my questions I might have for you guys right now. Um, now Brandon, I understand you're at the hospital. Kayie seems a little bit kind of frazzled right now. If she wants to like kind of talk to me so I can kind of like give her my whole spiel about like, you know, no one's in trouble or anything like that. It might come off a little bit better. >> My birthday. >> Hi, Kaylee. This is Detective Brazil with the East Main Police Department. I'm with Officer Decker like I told Andrew and Brandon. So, no one's in trouble. I want I want that to be known. No one's in trouble right now. Basically, we got contacted by DCFS about like the whole incident between your son being transported to Peoria. So, whenever there's an incident like that, we're required to investigate. Like I said, we're just here for the facts right now. Um, >> you knew you knew that that we were going to have a detective contact us. Remember that? >> Well, yeah, but they they originally told us, you know, I thought they were going to come up here and talk. >> So, that's also going to go with my spiel right now. So, I am not going to talk to you over uh FaceTime or anything like that. That's not going to be my part. We do have two Okay. >> What happened? >> No, she's waiting in front of me. But now, >> okay. We do have two detectives that are going to come up to Peoria um to talk to you and talk to Is D there as well? >> Yeah, he's here. >> Okay. They're going to just talk to both of you guys. Just basically more or less um what I kind of interviewed Brandon and Andrea for. all the same questions, maybe a little bit more, and just kind of get the facts together of what we have right now. >> Hey, wait, what's going on? >> Sorry. >> Sorry. Sorry. My son's heart rate is jumping. >> Okay. >> But Kaylee, I just wanted to make that real quick. I can let you go and then you can get back to the situation. >> Okay. Thank you. >> No problem there. >> I'll call you back, honey. >> Doubt slowly began to fade when police arrived at the hospital in Peoria and spoke with a doctor. The cause of the headache has not yet been disclosed, but the was serious enough to indicate non-ACal >> and with different like agencies being involved as far as DCFS and then police, I know you're kind of in the dark about a lot of things. So, I'm trying to be as transparent as I can, just letting you know that, hey, I'm talking to like basically everyone I can in the residence. Talk to Andrea, talk to Brandon cuz obviously they were there. They're going to keep talking to like the neighborhood as well. Maybe they, you know, just kind of canvasing the area, see if anything's out of ordinary. We're doing that just for documentation purposes if cuz right now no one's in trouble or anything like that. But when an investigation like this happens, >> you're talking to our neighbor? >> Yep. >> Oh, okay. I mean, we don't really talk to anybody. >> Yeah. It's just going to be one of those like has has there ever been like anything out of the ordinary conversations or anything like that? Just so we can say that we did our part and then there are going to be detectives coming down to speak with you. So they should be I want to say they left probably around the same time me and my uh my partner did. So maybe >> they're coming today. >> Yeah. So I want to say like maybe within like 45 minutes 45 minutes top at this point. >> I don't know. They have to like have a pin I think. Or does that not work since it's fully >> I think >> I think I think we might bypass that that little step there. But but yeah, >> she's just used to cuz they told her everything has to be Yeah. >> Yeah. I get that when it comes to pure cuz things are, you know, obviously a little bit crazy there. I just want to let you know as far as like my side what was going on. I don't want to leave you in the dark. I want to give you some answers cuz I know right now you really need answers. So the only thing I can't answer is what we're doing right now. >> Do you have a card? >> I know he has a business card. I He is my note guy, but I can write down like my name on that card as well. Decker, do you have a card? >> Yeah, I do. I'll have to write on >> I'm going to get their card and their name. >> Yep. And then if you guys have any >> tell Brandon I'm getting their name both of them and their uh number. Okay. >> And if you guys have any questions or anything that kind of want to tell either myself or Detective Decker, don't hesitate to reach out. >> So when you got here, do you have a you have a key for the apartment then? >> Me? >> Yeah. >> It's a passcode. >> A passcode. Okay. >> How to get in here? You mean I called my daughter and had her on FaceTime to tell me how to get in here. >> Oh, gotcha. Okay. And then was the apartment like this? Have you tuned anything? Touch anything? >> All I did was come to get close. >> And then about how long have you been here? >> Probably about 10 minutes for you guys. 10 minutes. Oh, okay. Just >> literally you guys got me off guard. I thought I was just like cuz I was in there just getting clothes together and it's literally left the way she left it. All I was doing was trying to find her bra and shirts for you. So and then I was looking for a bag and I couldn't find a bag so I borrowed a garbage bag. >> Okay. >> I'm a neurosurgeon and I'm the IC physician. So at times it takes time to develop. Could it be days or could be could it be weeks but again there should be always a threshold even one time in occurs not necessarily that that's the first time sometimes it can happen or sometimes could be repeated thing where there's more volume. So the head is like a kind of fixed box. So whatever blood or whatever comes in and it's it's going to create pressure. That's what we saw on the first city scan when we when the kid came two days ago. >> You had the emergency. >> Yeah. So that could have that was >> Yeah. >> Absolutely. There was nothing else that intervention couldn't have done timely. Yeah. >> When did that when did that happen? >> Two nights ago. >> Two nights ago just came out second. I'm just covering for the night. I actually saw the entire unit. But again I still know this patient >> from my understanding when he arrived here he was wheeled right into nowhere. >> Yes cuz by the time pupil was blown meaning there so much pressure that brain is telling that hey I can't deal with this anymore. So had to open that up and relieve the pressure that was a life-saving surgical intervention. >> The situation grew more complicated and no conclusions could be drawn just yet. When it comes to cases involving children, no matter how big or small, close coordination between the family, hospital, and DCFS is always essential. >> Hi again. You mind if we Hi, Andrea. >> We're doing a prayer. >> No, you're you're fine. Do you mind if we step in real quick? >> Sorry, you're fine. We can we can wait a little bit before we interrupt. >> The police are back. I'm about to find out. >> If you guys want to do your prayer, >> we already just did it. I just got done. >> Andrea, so like I said before, you know how we're kind of investigating this whole thing. No one's in any trouble or anything like that. We're just kind of following procedures at this point. At this time, we're getting a search warrant for the residents. Just seeing if there we're just going to come inside. We've already been here before. Going to document anything that >> they're getting a search warrant for the residents. >> For what? >> So, at this point, it's going to be anything that would elude any physical the child could have experienced. So it could be basically as far as like anything as far as blood and any any bodily fluids or anything like that. >> Unexpectedly the list of hospital supervisors was changed. Is a secret about to be revealed >> scenario if something bad happened like accidentally that doesn't make a parent. >> I know I know but this all this works really it's intimidating to children this age. These are kids. It's intimidating my children. It's intimidating to them. I can handle myself. >> No, I try to make things as least invasive as possible because I told her my number one priority right now to make sure that I have all the information so that the medical team has the information because if something happened accidentally and a parent is afraid to say >> I'm not afraid to tell you guys anything. If somebody did it, if I thought either one of them did it, I'd sell them down the river because I thought either one of them did it because my number one goal is protecting that kid right there. That is my world. I text my daughter Snapchat every morning and I and his nickname is Squish. >> That's what she told us. And I I go, "Swish, what are you doing?" 3:00 in the morning, I'm at work. I go, "Swish, what are you doing? Are you having a ball?" Being nice to your mom and dad, meaning he's not keeping him up. My daughter within 10 minutes always texts me back with a picture or a video of him, so I know he's doing okay. And it's all, nothing against, but it's usually my daughter caring for him. That's what I do every day. I text him at 3:00 in the morning, and then throughout the day, periodically, I do the same thing just because he's my he's everything, you know, to me and his grandma. to me and his grandpa. Um, but it's been a very stressful day being told that I'm the only one that can be in here now. Otherwise, nobody else can be in here. That is very stressful because >> I'm sorry that wasn't done from the get-go. It should have been. And then I got this and you're like, um, >> but why are we making that decision? Because I have to explain it to my daughter's mother. >> Very simple. Super simple. Going back 24 hours identifies three different people who were in contact with this kid. And because we're at the very beginning of the investigation, we do that to just be super safe. My wife wasn't with him that day either and she's been taken off the list as a supervisor. >> Your wife? >> My wife. >> I don't necessarily agree with that. >> Yeah. I was told that your people told them that my wife was off the list and I was solely the only one that could be the supervisor. >> They might have told the wrong person that >> because my wife was originally made one, but my wife usually has them Thursday and Friday mornings till he picks them up. >> I actually You're an ex-wife. >> Well, Kayle's mom is my ex. My wife Kayle's stepmom >> is another caregiver, Stephanie Rosler. >> Okay, >> that's my wife. >> We'll sort that out later. My protocol is that anybody who was in a caretaking role in that day and maybe the immediate day prior, >> I haven't seen him since Sunday. >> That's what I was told. And >> a key figure finally appeared, the father. But with a tense expression and eyes filled with worry, it seemed like he might be hiding something. >> I want to hear from you take my own notes, >> okay? cuz every investigator's defend. >> So, and I also want to make sure they legally did what they needed to do, too. So, when he came up here, I don't blame him if he didn't do these things cuz on call will do the bare minimum. Did he legally tell you what the allegations are and how this works? >> No. I don't think so. No. >> You guys have never had a DCFS investigation before. You're obviously new parents, so it's not as scary as it sounds. Okay. I know this whole thing is scary, but DCFS is not as scary as it people may have made it seem. Okay. So what happens is we automatically get phone calls for head injuries. That's just a get go. And then because of that they automatically have to be called. That's a big thing. So we always have to interview. We just a long way away. We're here together interview you once and together do it all together. >> So um when we get a call about a kid being uh they apply allegations. An allegation is not the initial allegation doesn't have to be what it ends up. It's just this is the information that we have. This is what we want you to investigate. Originally, what was added was head injuries by an effect. >> When we woke up, he was watching TV. She put TV like a cartoon movie on for him to watch and we all watched it. >> Okay. >> I just know Monday, all Monday and plus Monday night or Monday evening, two night, we was all just chilling in the room, just hanging out. and Tuesday. And then Tuesday, I slept all day until 9:45 cuz I had to work Tuesday night. >> I only shook him hard once or twice because he wouldn't stop crying. But with a still fragile skull, just a few shakes can cause brain hemorrhaging, the leading cause of in baby syndrome. And yet D as a father had no idea. It's a level of negligence that's hard to accept from any parent today. Here's the thing. Here's what we're looking at. We're getting this information. We're getting the facts from the doctors. They're the ones that are telling us what they're what they're seeing. The only thing that's not checking out is what led up to cause these types of these types of injuries don't just occur accidentally. Um, and that's what we're trying to figure out right now is that something happened more so than what you're telling us. We know that you're omitting information. You're not telling us the entire truth. Okay. Here's what I think. I think you're telling us part of the truth. And in this line of work, people tell us these little bits of information. Okay? Often times, people tell us 70% of I don't care about that 70% of that truth. I do care about it, but it's not the most important little bit of information that we have. Okay? >> Like just shook him like hard shook him two like one or two times. Hard shook him just like just calm down for me. Just calm down. Calm down. Calm down. And he he want to calm down. So then I just robbed him just uh he was just like he he was calm but like he was still crying but in that calm voice. So that's when I got the patient around waiting in the kitchen grabbed a bottle of water went back in the room and uh laid down he was still like when I laid down in bed with him like he was still crying like like all that like he was still crying. I rocked him again. Rocked him again. Rocked him again. I probably shook him again just one time. I just showed him like, "Come on, baby boy. Just come on. Just go back to sleep for me." And then went off from there like he I rocked him and then then he finally went to sleep. But I think I think by rocking him too much that's how he got his >> So did he continue crying after that or did he stop? >> He stopped. >> How much time passed between that point right there, the second time that you shook him? How much time passed between that and when Kaye got home? >> About an hour or so. Hour and a half. >> And did he cry at all at that point in time? >> No. >> Did you look at him? Was he conscious? And And was he breathing normally? >> He was breathing normally. Yes. >> Was he looking around? >> Yes. He like he always he loves to look around. >> Yes. >> The 23-year-old father has been charged with aggravated battery of a child, a class X felony. He was arrested and is currently being held at the Rock Island County Jail. As for the child, every bit of hope now hangs on each fragile breath. We get a search warrant on this and we download the contents of the phone. Okay. Based off the investigation, okay, generally when we have the passcode, things go a lot faster for us. So, we get the download and we collect that data and then uh generally it's, you know, depending on how things go, you know, you're going to get your phone back after that. Okay? But it just depends on the investigation, how things go. Okay? So, I'm not going to make any promises right away that, you know, you're going to get it right back. But it just makes life a little easier, you know, for the home. Okay. Do you have any questions for us right now? >> No, sir. Anything else? >> So, what's going to happen? We're going to walk back over here with you. Okay. Um, and then we're going to take off. All right. Appreciate your cooperation. >> I'm sorry. I'm sorry for my scared. I'm nervous. >> Everyone should be equipped with basic knowledge of infant care before becoming a parent. Don't let the phrase, "I just wanted the baby to stop crying," become the reason for a lifetime of disability or the loss of your own child's life. Welcome to the magical neighborhood where a 2-year-old can freely explore the streets without any adult supervision. >> Do you know where your son is right now? >> Oh jeez. No. >> In a world where many parents wake up in panic just from the sound of their child coughing. Somewhere in a quiet little corner of America, a mother had no idea that her child had been on a adventure out on the streets for two hours straight. On October 14th, 2023, the police had no other choice but to intervene. >> I knocked on these two houses. I didn't check this one. >> No, I know where he goes. >> Every morning and then I just across the street. >> Yeah, it's starting to be a problem. >> Uhoh. >> Hey, little munchkin. Come here, pumpkin. >> Are you playing? >> And you found him. >> So, I walk every morning in the neighborhood and then um I seen him running across the street and then like I said, I knocked on doors and nobody picked up. I don't know. I've never seen him. So, I just >> This is the third time he's got it. >> Okay. Cuz I'm a mom. So, >> yeah, it's a problem. But we're fixing to handle the problem. >> Okay. Good. >> Last time he almost got by a truck. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Thank you for staying with me. >> No problem. A >> where you going? >> I hope things get better. >> He's a cutie. >> Are you sliding? Yeah. He's not verbal, too. He doesn't talk. >> Yeah, he was sticking his tongue out, but he was laughing. So, I know he's having a little heyday. >> He's like, I'm ready to go play. Are we playing? Let me get you. >> Oh, your diaper is coming off. >> Uhoh, we lost the diaper. That should be fun in a minute. Yep. They're mama and daddy's Well, mama and mama's boyfriend. I don't think I could fit through that tube. >> Is this the second time or third? >> And still like when you be on the door, they'll be like, "Oh my god, not again." You know what I mean? Like whatever. >> Kind of looks like McColie Kulkin. >> Yeah. >> I'm all set, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Poor baby. >> Thank you very much. >> Strangely, no mother showed up. No one was panicking or out looking for the child. Only the police and a kind stranger who was just out buying diapers. And there was also the toddler happily interacting with the officers. Hey, >> I see you. >> Yeah, that's the only thing I've ever heard him say. Oh, to have the energy you have, kid. >> Lord, where I just walked up those two steps and I was tired. >> Where you going? >> I see you. >> Uh, the people that found him that day just said that they had found him once before. So, I don't know if they even called anybody that day. But, uh, he almost got hit by a black truck the day that me and Carmichael came out here. DCF was supposed to be involved, correct? >> I don't know. Yeah, it's been a while. But if you get Cassie to look up that address, we've been there before with mama and daughter fighting, but I think mom's actually gave them the house and moved out now because of how they are. Cuz I don't ever see mom there anymore. >> That's I'm sure who was Yeah, she was claiming that uh her boyfriend had a warrant of the same household. >> Are you serious? So that's mom's house. >> What's So what's the exploitation? It's like your family can go to the courthouse and request to have you like picked up and baker acted for or rehabilitated for but with our systems down here they don't hold them but for a little bit and let them out really don't do a lot. >> I mean there's no telling how long the child had been out. Did the lady that y'all got her 14? Did she say how long she had been out here with a child? She just saw the kid called us immediately. >> She said she saw him run across the street. So she picked him up and beat on both of these doors and nobody would answer. So she knocked over there. >> Yes. And so she brought him back to the park to play and called the cops. >> Oh, okay. So that gives us a time frame of how long he's been out. >> Probably saw him leave the house. >> Yeah. She saw him coming across the street. >> Yeah. She wasn't sure which house, though, cuz when she saw him, he was running. And that's what the elderly couple when I came here said the same thing. They're like, "It's one of these houses. We don't know which one." And he almost got hit by a truck. So we're just like, >> "Where was it? Was it on 17th?" It was on Illinois. I don't know why it thinking it was 17th Street. He almost got hit >> Minnesota. He almost right there. You want something to eat? No. Don't hit yourself. That's mean. You want to go play? Come on. >> Oh, she got a diaper. >> Got a couple of You want them? >> Oh, awesome. Sure. >> Cuz I know he lost his diaper earlier. >> Officer Connley's coming back here. Um, she ran by your house. She's just wanted to get a a tape statement from witness statement. Want to get dressed, little man? Come here. >> Are we good? If you don't mind, I'm going to get a tape statement from you about what happened. >> Sure. >> The last time I took him home. They have a lock at the very top, the chain lock that they never locked. >> Yeah. >> Ready? Are you ready? >> You ready? Here we go. >> Oh, what is going on here? The child's mother couldn't even answer a simple question. Do you know where your son is right now? Yes. The child had been missing for two whole hours, and she had absolutely no idea. Even during the search, she kept resisting until a small bag of something white was pulled from inside her bra. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> Hi. >> Yes. >> Do you know where your son is right now? >> Oh jeez. No. >> Do you mind if we come in and talk to you for a minute? >> He got out. >> Where's he? Where's he sleeping? >> Right here. >> You mind if we go back for a minute? >> Yeah. Come on. Is he okay? Let's go back to Is this where he sleeps at? >> Is he all right? >> Where do you sleep? Okay, >> she sleeps in here. >> That's why we had the chain on the door, did he? He didn't undo that. >> No, he didn't undo that chain. >> Do you have a job? >> I don't. I've tried to get get work done working with the train. You know, I have a job pretty much waiting for me. It's just uh I don't have a phone right now. It's just Holy child. Come on. >> Come on. We're not doing this. Your kids been missing for two hours and you didn't know where the hell he was at. [Music] >> Please. No. Please don't do this. Please can we talk about this? >> I thought you child is not being taken care of. He's being neglected here. Child is continually getting down. >> 2 hours. >> 2 hours. 2 hours. 2 years old. >> 2 hours. >> I work. >> Mom, please. >> Do you have anything on you? >> Please. Please. >> It's too late for that. Do you have anything on you that's going to pug me, sick me, cut me? >> Okay. Hold on. Don't go anywhere. >> Please. Please don't do this. >> Do you want to take this wallet with you? What about these keys? >> Those are mom's keys. Please, guys. What do I have to do? Please >> watch your kids for once. You're right. God damn it. >> Do you remember me from last time? >> I do remember you. >> And what did I tell you last time? >> I don't I don't recall you guys telling me that this is this is crazy. >> Do you want to take these wallets or not? >> No. >> I want the keys to my car. >> They're right here. >> They need some more explanation of like what's going on here because >> you're being you're being arrested. You're going to be charged with child. >> So, the long and short of this. >> Okay. Can Can you guys please give them to my mom, please? That's going to be at the for DCF there. No, please. >> What is this? >> It's flavoring. >> Please do your pants button. >> Yeah, please smoke a cigarette. >> Do you have anything in your bra? Turn around. Do you have anything in your bra? >> I don't think so. >> I didn't hear it cuz my bedroom is in the back and I have the door shut. >> Okay, hold on. Turn this way. If there's something in there, tell me now cuz if I get it, there's going to be problem. Stop pulling away from me. What is your problem? What's in your bra? >> There's nothing in my bra. >> Then why do you keep pulling away from me? >> Cuz you're touching me. >> Well, >> she's making sure you don't have anything. >> Okay, >> I do. She does. That's why. Please stay calm. >> Don't pull against me. Okay. >> This is all news to me. Please don't do this. Please, please, please. There's nothing I can do. >> The search further revealed and equipment hidden on her. This became undeniable evidence that the child's living environment was anything but safe physically or emotionally. >> I don't want to please his father. This is probably the best place for the feet. Go ahead and put your feet. >> No, please. >> Put your feet in. Do it now. >> That is not the best place. >> Well, it ain't with you. >> This is not the time to try to to do something. Back up. You're going to just catch more charges now. Back up. Push your feet in. What was it? >> Yeah. So, everything else out of her pockets, I sat on his bed also, just to let you know. >> What was in her pockets? >> Rocks. >> Rocks. A necklace. And what? I gave you that. So, >> Oh, but you found on her >> on her person. In her bra. She was actively pulling away from me trying to not let me get it. >> What was it? Paraphernalia or >> She had her bra in a little baggie. >> Great. take her. >> I didn't even know you still lived here. I thought you gave them the house or something. >> I don't know. >> I would suggest if they do place him with you, I don't know if they will or not. I would go through her room before I ever let that baby in there cuz she probably has all kind of stuff in there that he don't need to get. Do you have any questions for me? >> No. >> Thank you. >> Have you been here all morning? >> Yeah, I was I was asleep. I just got up because I've got an appointment to take my car in to get it the oil change. >> All right. >> I have a fan on and that helps. So, this was the second time I brought him home personally. Well, I didn't bring him home today, obviously. I kept him at the park till these gifts I had. I brought him to her like a month ago for the same exact reason. >> I had no idea. >> Yeah, this is the third time we've been with him. He almost got hit by a car last time. >> Yeah, she didn't tell me any of this. >> I don't know what she's going to do. >> Well, and I I I had a feeling that she was using, but take her. I mean, >> if you need to start eviction papers, you know how, right? >> No. go to the courthouse Monday morning. Tell them you want to start eviction papers and you can do it that way. It'll get her out. >> Okay. >> All right. Have a good day. >> Thank you. >> The mother is now facing charges of child possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of equipment. Child protective services have intervened and the child may be placed either with a qualified relative or into temporary foster care. You've only seen me one other time, but this is the third time your kid has got out and we've brought him home to you while you were sleeping while your 2-year-old kid is running the streets and almost getting hit by cars. So, no. Do I mean, we're not going to keep letting this happen without holding you responsible? If you want a kid, take care of him. >> Yeah, he's been playing for two hours at the park. >> We're not doing it. It's up to DCF. He's already in the system. If DCF's been to your house, he's already in the system. It's just a matter of you not taking care of him. That puts him with foster parents. What kind of father does he have? >> His father is around and he's supposed to go see his father today. His father works. >> Is his father is like you are? >> I don't know. >> Then why don't you let the dad have him? What's your social? >> Get my mom over here to try to talk to my father. That's going to be up to DCF. It's literally out of our hands. >> They're on their way here. >> Okay. So, I get to speak to them or I'm gone. >> If they want to speak to you, then yeah. I mean, normally they're going to try to place the child with a relative that is not on drugs. And if the dad's not on drugs, then they might put him with the dad. But that's also if the dad will accept him. So, I will tell you that they do try to keep him with the family, but if nobody volunteers, then obviously he can't stay with your mom cuz you live with your mom. >> No, I understand she didn't know, but because you live with her, we just be putting him right back in the same house. >> You don't want water. >> Go get him. Good job. >> Okay, so we got mom in custody just talking to her real quick and then we're going to hopefully get you relieved. It's okay. >> Parents need to fully understand the serious consequences ofing their children. Had the boy encountered someone with bad intentions. The risk of getting lost or abducted could have been extremely high. At an age when language and behavior are still being shaped, parental neglect can leave deep emotional scars and have long-asting effects on a child's development. Looking back at today's stories, one truth remains clear. Children are often the ones most affected by the mistakes of adults. Every moment of carelessness, every rush decision, or every disregard for rules can place them in situations they are not yet able to fully understand or protect themselves from.
