Ma'am, ma'am, you must be >> You'reing me. What are you doing? >> Stop resisting. >> I'm not resisting. You're accosting me. >> Let go. >> Amid life's pressures and unwise [music] decisions, many children still witness troubling behavior from their own family members. >> And I have AIDS and I'm a pregnant woman. And I have told you the funeral was yesterday. Follow the path of justice [music] to explore tense situations where rights, the law, and parental instincts intersect [music] in unexpected ways. >> What did you swallow? >> Huh? >> The hell is >> what? >> Fetties. >> Fetties. >> Between financial hardship and parental responsibility, this woman made a poor choice, losing both her freedom and trust. On April 27th, 2024, Washington police received a report of a concern at a Safeway store involving a woman with a young child around 1 to two years old in a stroller. Upon arrival, they encountered a mother who was uncooperative, complicating their work. >> Stop. Give me my >> let me go >> take a 16. >> Just to let you know body camera on. all going to be recorded. >> Okay, I got it. >> Do you have any ones on you that need to know about? >> No, I'm not going to jail. >> Okay. >> I can't breathe. >> Why not? Consequence of your action hurt. Is that what it is? Appreciate it. Okay. Okay, we're going to take a seat in my car. What are you doing? What are you doing? You're still going to sit in my car. I don't This act I don't really care for. So, >> okay, cool. Okay, sit in the car. Swing your feet into the car. >> Okay. >> No. Swing your feet into the car. >> I need an ambulance. >> For what? Get up and get into the car. Yeah. >> I need an ambulance. >> For what? >> I need my son. Where's my son? >> All right. Come on. You really care about him when he was stealing. >> You can't touch me like this. >> We're trying to put you in the car, man. >> I need an ambulance. >> I need an ambulance. >> Stop. Stop. >> You can't touch me like that. >> You cannot touch me like that. >> Stop. >> I need an ambulance now. I need to >> for what? You haven't told me anything. >> Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can't be used against you in a court of law. You have the right. It's time to talk to a lawyer and have a presidency or be in question. >> Do you understand your rights? Fantastic. So just the shop lifts or my car. Anything else I should know about? >> She was so she was when we rolled up. She was trying to push her up. >> Push push everything else with her kid in a stroller still trying to leave the stroller. >> Yeah. >> Where's the kid now? Passer by like cuz she was pushing it. Knocks it over. He like falls out of the stroller. The kid fell out of the stroller. passer by go and grab him so he doesn't actually like hit the ground or anything. >> Okay. How's this kid? >> He's probably only a couple years old. >> All right. So, are we taking this kid? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> You want me to go get a car seat right now? >> Yeah. >> 6K47. Is there someone at the station that could bring us a car seat? >> As shown, the child was handled roughly and almost fell from the stroller. This prompted the police to step in immediately to ensure the child's safety. >> You want all your car seat cuz I wasn't here. I just seen the baby like getting tipped and like thrashed around in the stroller by the mother. >> Yeah, buddy. >> To help. They were trying to stop the shop is what it was. >> What was she taking? >> Oh, it was a whole car. Okay. >> That whole thing. >> So, do you guys need a receipt for this? >> Yes, please. Yeah. I'm going to take some photos real quick. Okay. You want me to flip it over so you can get everything? >> No, you're all good, man. [clears throat] >> I tried to diffuse the situation because I saw the baby. He wasn't crying or anything. Didn't seem distressed, but I I have five kids. My youngest is two. So, when I saw him getting thrashed around, he was this close to hitting his head on the pole a couple of times. I I intervened and I tried to diffuse it and I said, "Hey, you know, I'll buy this stuff. [ __ ] let her go." You know, and then I asked um well, she had a couple of bags with her that she claimed were hers when she came into the store. They maintain that she put items from Safeway in there. I'm sure I'm sure it's true. >> Stories are true, but she seems uh she seemed very um very >> upset. So I don't know. >> So they were accusing her and then and then in the process they were like, "Hey, don't leave." She's holding on to this >> and they're holding on to the shopping bag. >> Yeah. He's he's like just a like he's attached attached them to. >> I like your shoes. >> I don't intervene in other people's businesses. It's not my business. But I I have to say something. There wasn't a moment where her hand wasn't on the stroller and she wasn't trying to get away from the security guards that he wasn't being dragged being neglected as far as she ever anything that he was saying. >> Um no, he didn't say anything about kid. >> Yeah. Don't touch my son. Uh give me my son back. She almost knocked his shoulder off over over there uh trying to steal the bags again. And then over here, she knocked him over at all the way over and the guy, the black guy that just walked outside, he actually caught him before he hit the floor. >> What's up, gentlemen? >> We got a kiddo in there. If you guys want to check on the kiddo first and then check on mom after. >> Um, so the lady that's arrested now, she's shoplifting, holding on to the stroller while they're like trying to stop her. The kiddo just gets around maybe ground a couple times. >> Yeah, maybe. Sounds like he might have gotten caught one of the times, but he's just getting jostled and trashed. >> Yeah. >> Can I just kind of get your account when you saw what happened? >> All right. So, >> I was upstairs watching her from the catwalk with the camera and >> you tell me intentionally. He told me she came with bags that were empty, but from what I saw, they had a full observation of her and from what I saw, she came through the aisles. She didn't even stop at checkout. She just went right through and just tried to go. So we told her just give us some stuff back. I was just trying to think. I was just thinking about the kid. You understand? I told her just go. She said she wasn't want to go and the kid was just flying everywhere >> and I just be right where you guys came. That's why I grabbed the kid. So for falling on the course face on paper >> I got kids on my own. So >> you I as I pulled that man you literally caught the kid. >> Yeah. A hat. It was that was the kid fall. You know what I mean? >> But yeah, that's she did we did have all our elements. Oh yeah. You saw a selection conceal. Yeah. Everything started. >> And then when she's trying to push you out, like was she using your kid as like a >> like a like I get what you mean. Not really. She did it at the end. I told her I was like, "I'll help you with the stroller. Just go. Just go. Let's get the stuff back cuz you don't want it to be taken." She said she don't give a she needs it. Uh-uh. She said she kept saying she came over the bags, which she didn't. And I'm telling her like, "Just go." And then she just started swinging the baby around in the stroller. So, I don't know. All I was caring about was a kid. That's it. >> Complications arose when the mother became unresponsive, making it difficult to verify the child's information and reach family members. >> The second that we came out here, she started passing now. I can't breathe. I was like, "Oh, you were fighting pretty good, though." So, that's funny. >> Still just acting. >> Okay. So, no. No use for just grabbing. Yeah. No, I mean, I guess technically, but um yeah, once I saw her like start to run out the door and then knock the kid down in the [ __ ] check. >> I got fire in route. Someone bring in a car seat. Uh we'll have to do the child removal. >> She's under arrest for theft three and then >> Okay. >> Oh, I guess I'll just let her know. >> All right. So, right now you're under arrest for theft three and obstruction. Okay. >> Uh someone needs to stay here with her though. Yeah, I'm staying here. >> All right. >> Hey, we're trying to figure out your your kid's name. What's your kid's name? Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. Talking to you. Hello. Fire is going to come check you out here shortly. What's your What's your kiddo's name? You don't want to talk to us? Okay. Is there any like child medical card in there? I'm going to try to fill out that child removal form. >> Yeah. She's not willing to talk. >> Before we do this, is there anyone else that can come get the child? >> She's not willing to talk at all. >> I mean, you can try to talk to her. She's Before we go any further with stuff, you're That's your child, correct? Is that correct? >> 54. >> Ma'am, that's your child. >> Okay. Is there anyone else that can come get your child? >> Not that I know of. >> Not that you know of. >> Okay. Well, you are under arrest. So, what's going to happen is we're going to have to remove your child and contact CPS. >> Huh? >> I think so. >> If you don't have anyone that can come get your child, we're going to have to contact CPS. Okay. >> Huh? >> My CPS working. >> Okay. Well, we we're going to reach out to CPS. >> What's that? >> What? >> They swallow me. >> You're pregnant and you swallowed what? >> You're pregnant and you swallowed what? >> Huh? Is it all bad for that? >> You need to talk louder. I can't hear you. >> I'm trying. >> Huh? What did you swallow? >> Huh? >> What? >> Fetties. And you swallow fetties. And you're pregnant. That's a smart thing to do. >> Well, it's hard because she didn't. She's lying cuz she knows how to go to jail. >> Yeah, that's her. >> Yeah. Yeah, that's her. our friend. I don't think there's a kid. This different last name. >> Is this the CPS thing? >> You guys feel comfortable getting her out of handcuffs for a little bit so we can do blood sugar instead of vitals? >> She tried fighting. >> Oh, she did. >> A little bit of a struggle to get her into handcuffs. >> I think we can make it work. Thank you. Will you confirm the >> No, we're not even on the hospital. >> And then >> yeah, remove the child. You can call you can call CPS and ask if this is the child's name. >> Okay. >> Um and give them the mom's name and stuff like that. >> Um and then yeah, we'll remove the child. She's going to go to the hospital. It's your choice if you want. The situation became more concerning as the mother [music] was pregnant and exhibited signs of previous poor decision-making. Records indicate this was not the first time the [music] child faced challenges in care. >> All right. Looks like mom is probably just going to end up going to hospital. We decided she asked no one else to come get the child. So, we're going to have to do the child rem. >> She said she swallowed dough and we don't have staffing really to have someone sit on it. >> But, we're going to have to have someone sit with the child. So that's going to remove two. So we're just going to have her go to the hospital. >> What's the crime? >> An obstruction. But she said that she's pregnant and swallowed. >> And now and then with this child, she doesn't we don't have anybody that can come get this child. >> Okay. Got him. >> He wants his toy. >> I think he's hungry. So Reckless. Yeah. >> Yes. >> Yeah. Reckless obstruction. >> Her myriad of warrants for theft three and two. So that's fun. >> Um I guess in a previous call that she was also arrested for soccer kid. >> And what happened with the kid you're saying? So during I've read the Tquila report briefly. It looks like uh last year the she was brought to Valley due to medical stuff with a shoplift incident. She had the son with her and medical staff thought that due to her mental state she wasn't fit to take care of the kids. So this is a prior CPS intake number that you might be able to give them. So that way they already had the names there instead of giving all the names. It looks like they spelled the name differently in that report and that's the report number here. >> The child's name is different. >> Yeah. Is different than whatever paperwork you found. >> Okay. Um, so, uh, yeah. >> All right, ma'am. Uh, name's Officer Hans. You're going to be going with me to the hospital. Okay. >> Okay. >> Are you pregnant? >> Oh, there he go. Come on. [clears throat] Keep an eye. Oh, you're hurting me. I'm pregnant. How are you doing? >> I'm pregnant. You're >> Why are you being like that? >> There's no reason for you to fall. >> I can't. I'm stuck. >> Sit in the seat. Can you act like an adult, please? >> Hey, ma'am. I understand you don't feel well and that you're pregnant. So, I don't want to rip you and pull you into this car, but I will. >> You need to We already But you need to stand up and sit your butt down before I have to physically remove you. >> I'm trying. >> Okay. >> Put your feet on the roof forward and push yourself up. >> I'm trying. >> Okay. Would you like assistance? Cuz I will assist you. >> Good. Rotate your butt upwards. Sit up on your bottom. There you go. Stay right there. >> You need to stay leaning up. We're going to the hospital right this second. >> There you go. >> Holy crap. >> Oh no. Real quick. >> Hey Tanya, uh this just going to go with your property. We're moving your kiddo. You know >> my kiddo. Where are you going? We're we're going to the hospital, >> but your kiddo is going to be going with CPS. All right. >> Okay. >> Her is touch. >> Just going to go with her property. Uh I got everything. I'm going to take KD back to dust.com. >> I have her uh bag all that and everything. So, >> okay. And then we're taking her on the camera, right? Labels. It's up to you if you want to take her to score or you want to take her to you can call our jail and be like, "Hey, is a doctor's note good enough for you guys. If she's claiming she swallowed this, they'll kind of go off that." But I mean, it's it's up to you if you want to book the store, you want to book on locals or local warrants. So, we have local charges, local warrants, and OSA warrants as well as felony warrants. So, >> all right. >> Surprise, surprise. It's for the same. So, >> going to belly right now. >> Yeah. Given the concern, [music] police temporarily shifted from handling routine matters to taking her to a medical [music] facility before continuing standard legal procedures. >> Yes, you're going to the hospital. >> Hey Tanya, so we're here at the hospital and look, we're at the hospital. So, I'm not here playing any games with you. So, don't do any of that [ __ ] you've been doing. You're going to walk in the hospital. You're not right. >> I get it. You need help. We're going to get you help. Come on. If you be cool with me, I'm going to be cool with you. And close my door. >> What was that? >> My son. your son. He's safe. He's with us. Uh I don't know what they're going to do if they're going to be CPS or not, but we're getting him a safe one place to stay. >> You're breaking the law right now. >> I can't breathe. >> I can't breathe. That's just pushing my stomach. You have to get to die with me. It's my stomach. I'm pregnant woman. I have life and I have AIDS and I'm a pregnant woman. And I have told you this is pressing my stomach. I don't care. It's pressing my stomach. You have to get off my stomach. I'm a pregnant woman. I know. I am a pregnant woman and you have to get this off of my stomach. I have wife and I have AIDS. Did you tell the hospital that? >> Did you tell the deal that I'm a pregnant woman? And this is wrong for you guys to treat me like this. And I asked for a rape kit to get judged and you did not give me one. That is illegal. He didn't even read me my random rights and neither have you guys. That is illegal. >> You want your murder right? You have the right to remain silent. >> It's too late. It's still a lawsuit. >> I have time to talk to your lawyer. Have a res. >> I have asked for my lawyer this ENTIRE TIME. I ALREADY HAVE one and I've asked to call him this whole time and he hasn't let me use the phone in time to exercise his rights to not answer any questions or make any statements >> and he hasn't let me. >> Did you understand any of that? >> Yeah. Did you understand that it's illegal for him to not give me a rape kit when I've been asking for one the whole time I've been here? >> It's Tanya. Yeah. >> I have been asking for a rape kit and I I'm pregnant and this is pressing on my stomach. I'm not going to talk about until there's an advocate here with me. >> All right. Well, an advocate's not coming. >> Obviously, I'm not getting a rape kit done. >> An advocate can meet you at the jail. The rape kit needs to get done in the future. And then a rape kit needs to get done. >> No, it needs to GET DONE RIGHT NOW. >> DOES NOT NEED TO GET DONE RIGHT NOW. >> YES, it does. >> Everything in the first 48 hours. What are you talking about? >> Why ask answer those questions about where >> he didn't ever ask me those questions? Because he never read me my Miranda rightites for one. And for two, I'm >> I'm a pregnant woman and I need you to get this off of my stomach. >> Okay. And you guys have a huge lawsuit on your hands. Just so >> And I have to use the bathroom. And you cannot carry me into the jail like this with my whole You have to hurting my stomach. It's hurting my stomach. >> No, it's hurting my stomach. AND I'M PREGNANT. STOP. You're hurting me. I have to use the bathroom. I have to use the bathroom. I'm going to have piss all over this back seat. I have to use the bathroom. I have to. I've been asking to use the bathroom the whole time. I'm pregnant. You're pressing on my stomach. What am I supposed to do? What am I supposed to do? You are refusing me to get a rape kit. I was raped and you're refusing to give me a rape kit. What is wrong with you? I am a pregnant woman and I'm about to pick all over the place of my son. >> You don't want to do that. >> I told you 2 hours ago. What is wrong with you? This is unlawful and this is unlawful. I told you I had to use the bathroom and I told you that I couldn't breathe. >> I am a pregnant woman. You can't my jail like this. This is a lawsuit. This is a huge lawsuit. >> The mother faced charges [music] of theft, child elect, obstruction of official business, tampering with evidence, and possession of a controlled substance. Under Washington law, total penalties could [music] range from 3 to 26 years. While her actions cannot be excused, the case highlights a part of society where many are pushed [music] into difficult situations, lacking sufficient support, which can lead to rushed and unwise choices. You wouldn't expect a family loss to affect a mother so deeply. >> They're safe. Just leave me alone. >> I CAN'T. >> MY FATHER JUST >> I know that. >> Leave me alone. >> On August 14th, 2024, police and child protection agencies were dispatched to a neighborhood after reports that a mother and her two children spent the night in an apartment hallway due to having no home. She had been turned away from several hotels, was experiencing homelessness, [music] and coping with grief after her father's passing, creating major concerns for the children's living environment. >> Well, I got no issues really. I've never met Jess. What's going on, girl? >> I'm up here minding my business. >> Yeah. >> I'll tell you these words. When I had to leave the Huga in >> Mhm. >> You was there, >> was I? >> Yeah. You and Officer D. >> Me? Yeah. >> How long ago was this? >> Last month when I was at the CUGA in at the hotel, Daisy. >> Oh, yes. Yes. Yes. I'm sorry. What's going on today? >> No, they won't [ __ ] with me. CPS, >> they are some disrespectful ass people. >> Yeah, >> this lady called me yesterday. My father just died. >> Yeah. Okay. I'm sorry to hear that. I'm very sorry. >> She was so sarcastic on that phone. The day before when the police came, my mom went to sleep. We got into argument. My father just died. >> So I don't I don't care. I wasn't outside. We was in a hub. >> Right. Are you staying there? >> The CPS? Yeah. >> And she lives here? >> My mom lives here. >> Okay. Okay. So, you were staying with her. You got into an argument. You went in the hallway cuz you were like, "I don't want to deal with this." >> Yep. >> Okay. >> She went to sleep. >> CPS team. >> I told her off. She said she was going to call the police. >> Okay. >> But, well, there's nothing you can do. >> Why did she come here? >> Because the police came. >> Okay. Last night. >> Yeah. She's here, >> Trevor. Just to make sure that you have a place to stay. >> Yeah. I'm right here with my mom. But they're so nasty. >> You're not going to me with my [ __ ] I don't know who the hell you because I done took mine out of the county. I'm suing them. Well, I'm going to go talk to her for a second. If you want to just go with her and then we'll go from there. Okay. >> Yeah. >> And I put out the judge got all my paperwork, text messages, pictures, and everything. I'm suing them. >> Oh, CPS. >> Yeah. I'm suing them all cuz they're they're on my ass. Like, you wouldn't believe it. They lost my property. >> Where are you living right now? >> Right here with my mom. >> Initiate. >> They kicked me out of the hotel because the owner had a authority rush. You're not going to come in my face. I'm a grown ass man. >> What hotel were you at? >> Kyuga N. He came out telling everybody go to their room and being really with a authority rush. So at the end of the day I told him you don't tell me what to do. He said I'm going to put a curfew on the park line. >> So he's saying you can't be in the parking lot. >> Yeah. Anybody doing smoking a cigarette and he's like I don't know. He must have had his period whatever. I don't know what was wrong with this man. We really went crazy and him and employee another man walked up to me after me and my kids was coming from the trash and going to tell me to go to my room. Like who the hell you think you have? He said, "Well, I'll have you and your kids both out of here. You threatened me." The landlord here, she took me off the list or else I would have already had a place. >> There's a waiting list. Yeah. >> Or there was a waiting list. >> There wasn't. I've been at Social Service for the last 2 years. She had to take me off the list because they've been [ __ ] with me the whole time. So that's why I'm suing >> CPS. >> All of them. I'm mad because you guys the welfare of my children. I went to court. I won. They lost. They've been attacking me ever since. >> With who? >> Social service. Now they're really on me. And now I just That's why I sent off all this paperwork and everything cuz they haven't gave me no money. They took all my property. They can't tell nothing. They're just nasty, sarcastic. CPS is coming. Like all this stuff. Like I told the judge, I don't got time for that. You're not going to come at me about children when y'all didn't take care of my kids. Unlike a lot of people, I worked all my life for mine. >> I remember you were working nights somewhere. >> Yeah. I I work at the nursing home. I'm a traveling CNA. They messed up my career. I'm pissed off all the way around. I'm not going back and start back over when I'm at 30 50 an hour. I'm not starting on back over. So, yeah, I'm suing them. I got all their names, paperworks. I done sent paperwork to the president. I'm not playing with them. The conversation between police and the CPS representative highlighted the mother's numerous challenges from loss of financial support to conflicts with those who had previously offered help. >> Got the background the other night when Officer Henderson was here. Did you Were you here? So that was a couple nights ago. The report came in that they were sleeping in the hallway. Okay. >> Um she was living somewhere else and got kicked out of that place. She's been kicked out of like every hotel in Auburn. So, her dad died and her mom said, "Well, you can stay here for a couple nights till the funeral," which was yesterday. Okay. I didn't talk to her yesterday cuz I knew the funeral was yesterday, but I did talk to her and her mother on Monday and her mom said they can't stay here for one, the night that she was sleeping in the hallway. She's got some mental health stuff. She was fighting with mom and mom said, "If you're going to be like that, you can't be here." So, made her leave. That's when a couple people found her sleeping in the hallway with the kids. Um the I just talked to the building manager and he said and the plan was for your funeral and whatnot we can meet on Wednesday and discuss a plan. >> Grandma says she absolutely cannot stay here. So um the apartment manager today says that sometime around after midnight we found her and the kids sleeping on the second floor again. I basically my goal today was to say hey like what's your plan here? You can't stay here. Okay. >> Building has a policy where the tenants can have guests up to 14 days. You know, there's kind of rules about how long you can stay. >> A couple people have called in that live here saying that the kids are going door to door with baggies [music] like looking for food. So, basically, I want to I came today. I knocked on the door. Grandma let me in. She was curled up on the couch facing the wall. you're dismissed like you can talk to me and I'm like I just want to talk to you about a plan your mom says you can't stay here so like we need to come up with a different plan. >> Um unfortunately try to go to DSS but you know Monday they emailed me back and said listen she's been kicked out of every hotel. There's no hotel in Auburn that'll take her. I think um Roadway might take her um but she would have to go cuz Anna is homeless again today and she would need to be willing to go to roadway. If she's not able to make a plan or or have another resource other than here then we need to discuss housing for like women and children alone like for domestic but >> no I mean so there's homeless that's that's all we have in those towns. she's been housed multiple times, then she's not as in like she always gets kicked out, even if she's approved for housing, limited resources to be able to help her because she's irrational. So, >> um, basically, I'd like to talk to her about, hey, do you have any other resources to go? Not here because your mom says you can't stay, whether that's a friend or whatever, and then we can go there, check the safety, you can go about your business. Okay? But if you don't, then you're gonna have to surrender your kids. You can't be sleeping in the hallway. >> Let me try and talk to her and get her willing to communicate. And >> I did call them a little crisis, too, because um like when I first got here, like I said, she was throwing a ball and her dad just died and like there's it sounds like there's a lot. So see if we can get her to realize that we're trying to be on her side, >> right? Okay. Even though police suggested she stay temporarily at the roadway hotel, she firmly refused, fearing negative experiences from the past might repeat. >> So, I think I have like a better understanding of what's going on. >> I think you guys got off on the wrong foot. She's trying to help you. Listen, because we want to be able to find you a place that's safe for you and for the kids to stay. Cuz if your mom's not willing to let you stay here and there's rules, she could lose her housing if she lets you stay here. We have to find you a place right now. The last thing we want to do is find the kids a place and not you a place. But we need your cooperation to find a place. >> She's here and she said that if you present to DSS potentially roadway in could take you. >> That's where I'm suing. >> Roadway. >> Roadway. >> Yeah, cuz that's where they got me all up at roadway. >> You said uh >> 7 months. >> You said Cuba. >> That's when I got back in town. >> Okay. >> They put me out there at roadway for 7 months and me over there. I'm the station. You put me way the hell out there in weed work. How I don't get back in court. They That's how they ran out all my money. So that's why they're getting sued because they damn near lost my life over there. >> Are you sanctioned from motorway? >> I'm sanctioned from social service >> entirely. >> Yeah, because I'm suing them because of that because they keep messing with my money. >> Do you have any friends or family in Auburn that you can't see? >> Everybody's on social service or freaking home site. So it's a problem all the way around the board. >> Okay. And that is a problem. So, >> right. And then I keep getting kicked out of Auburn for absolutely nothing. So, I I'm being I'm being honest, but like I told them, >> I'm not going to leave Auburn until I hear back from the judge. >> When are you supposed to hear from the judge >> now? Okay. >> Yes. >> So, your last >> because I just got a phone. >> Well, if you have a phone now, you can call the court and give them your phone number now and they will contact you with that. You can update your personal contact information with them at any time. Now, this is we need to figure this out because obviously you have your babies. We need to have them have a safe place to stay for now. Your option if you don't have any friends or family to stay with is you have to go to roadway. Otherwise, cuz CPS has to be able to document that they have a place to stay and sleep at night. >> I'd rather them be right here because all our stuff is right here. I know that >> and no cash. >> But we don't have >> so I can't get to roadway. And that's what I told her. That's why I told social service. You guys be trying to put me back out there in real life. >> I'm not going out there with those demons. >> We're in a rock in a hard place. >> No way is your only option. Otherwise, they can the children. >> Tell them to put us back at the finger. >> I don't If they won't take you there, then they won't take you there. >> They kicked us out for nothing. >> But that's their decision. I don't get to influence that. And they don't either. It's >> Well, I'm Okay, this is what I'm going to do. Officer, >> I'm going to call the judge. >> Okay. I want to speak to him. I'll call you back. Can I ask for you? >> Well, I want to Can I just stay here while you make that call? Cuz like we got to figure this out. So, >> cuz CPS has to be able to say like, "Yes, you have a place with these babies. We don't want to get to the point where they have to house the kids without me." And that's what's going to come down. >> I house the kids without me with my mom. >> Can the kids stay here? >> Yeah. That's why I don't understand the problem. >> Let me talk to her and let me talk to your mom. If the kids can stay here and you can't, that that's issue resolved. I don't care about staying here. My kids are a house. >> Okay, let me go talk to her and see if that that's an acceptable option. >> Yeah. >> Okay, we'll talk to her. We'll talk to mom. I feel like >> the kids the kids are a house. >> Okay. >> I'm not I ain't worried about me. I'm worried about them. >> Even the grandmother, the only family member able to provide temporary care, could not accommodate the children at night due to her own health and wellbeing. >> Is anyone else in here? >> It's the police department. Is anyone else in here? >> Hello. Can I come talk to you? >> Come on in. You guys want to wait here for a second? I'll be right back. Okay. So, what's going on? CPS and everyone came this morning and found Were they sleeping in the hall? >> This was um a couple of days back. I seen her. She just had a blanket or something, but she had told them she was just out there over one of her friends house. She just came down there by my door cuz me and her had some words. Her father just passed away. So, she's grieving on that and she's mad at social service and it cuz they demeaning her and they are a lot. They is some smart mouth people and they you can't make these people feel like trash cuz they homeless. She worked and ain't never been on the work for doing all this here stuff. I think she did get some stamps but I'm talking about she usually just work and then so now all this stuff going on and it's just freaking out and with her father dad she gone and see I can't put up with her because nobody want to listen >> right. Um so was she staying here with you? >> No she had just got kicked out of there. know she was staying at two days in or three in whatever. only had been here like well she really couldn't I can't even say 5 days cuz me and her was getting into work you know so she was over somewhere or whatever that's my other daughter on the phone >> are the so CPS is out there and they're willing saying they're willing to house her and the kids out of road right now >> see that what can I do >> I no I >> she can't stay here we don't get along >> I know she cannot um but she's claiming that the kids can >> where she going she ain't going she going to be trying to come right back here I can't do I I know that. But the other officers talk about CPS and what it sounds like is either they can all go to roadway and they can stay out at roadway but then she's worried about transportation and getting back and all that kind of stuff or kids stay here and then she said, you know, basically she's going to fend for herself. >> She's not going to fend for herself. She going to be doing some silly stuff out there that door. No, she's not putting this pressure on me. I take her out there the roadway and she find her way out there. She got help before. She was doing good out there, miss. I understand that. >> And W was helping her to come in to get the voucher. She don't need to be black. She don't need to have her ass back over here anyway. She need to go out there, get herself in check, try to get look for apartment or something or go back to work or do something. I tried to even said that I will watch the kids. And what she do? >> You will watch the kids, but the kids live here. >> They can't live here. No. Unless something happened. You know what I'm saying? >> Right. Last absolute last resort. >> Exactly. >> Okay. All right. I just want to make that clear. really pushed the improvise on her that she had to be out there with the kids or she would lose them. >> That's that was what we were saying to her and she said no, they will stay on my mom's that kids. >> You can't put that on. I'm sick when I'm crippled. I got chronic pain. Okay. No, you got it. But I'm really I can't. Look, she got stuff here. She got stuff falling in my car. Everything is like cluttered up. I can't, you know, and then she don't want to listen. Me and her almost got in a fight. I'm really serious on this. No, they need a place of their own. She do. >> Amid the chaotic situation, the mother felt isolated and resisted accepting any assistance. >> Do you have a cousin that lives here? >> Yeah. >> Is that a possibility of her watching the kids? Cuz mom is in a wheelchair and she said she doesn't know if she can handle them. >> That's why I have them all day long. >> Okay. And then at night she watches them. >> Okay. >> I drop them off at night. >> And if she's immuneable to that or if your cousin is cuz what we were thinking is they're here. They want to talk to you. You're from Ka Counseling, right? Yeah. I'm sorry. And because they want to talk to you about maybe getting in to therapy and then maybe talking to DSS and saying, "Hey, like I want to get some help. I'm trying to go to mental health. I want to like make sure that I'm not getting into arguments with people when I'm staying places." >> Um, no. >> We got to make it look good to get DSS to get you somewhere in Auburn cuz right now they don't want >> Why do we have to make it look good? I got to act like I'm Sometimes you got to play the game. I can't. >> You don't got to act like you have a problem. >> A deputy sheriff, a social worker, nursing for 20 years. I can't act dumb. >> I'm not saying you should act dumb, girl. I'm saying I'm saying play the game a little bit. Get them to get you a place in Auburn. >> I did. I cried to these people and everything. Well, that's what I'm saying. >> They just looked at me like >> I'm saying if maybe we can get somebody that can help you like I got to be on Oh my god, this is crazy. >> Well, I'm saying you don't have to. I mean, if roadway is an option, if we don't kind of do something to >> Right. Well, I'm the kids are okay. That's all my concern is. >> So, you're not super worried about housing as long. >> How long are the kids able to stay with any of these people? >> As long as they need to That's her grandma. That's her grandma. >> And all right, I'll have to talk to her and confirm that. I'm hoping that that's the case. And it is. And >> that's the only one they got. >> That was my question. If mom for some reason can't take the kids at night, can the cousin take the kids? >> No. See, the cousin is with mental health. >> Oh, so they can't have the kids? >> No, the kids can only go with my mom at night. >> Your cousin also lives in the building. Is she willing to house the children? >> No, the children's not going to be house without me unless they're at my mom. >> Well, mom says no >> for night time. >> For any time. >> Let me go straight to my mom. >> Well, no, because you can't cuz if you're going to go and yell at her, that's not going to fix it. She's not going to change her mind and I can't get into messic with her right here and right now. >> I'm not getting a mess with her. >> We can't force her. My mom ain't going to tell my sister. >> Well, we can't force her to do it. So, if you have a reasonable conversation with her, I don't want to be in Hey, you're driving yourself. I don't want to get put in a situation where I have to arrest you. >> Definitely. Watch out for >> Okay. Do you hear me? We can talk with her, but don't be >> Oh, I ain't got a cuff on my mama. >> All right. Well, talk with her. >> Tensions between her and the children's grandmother appeared more intense than [music] the situation itself. >> I don't want to have to arrest you. Cuz that would backfire everything we're trying to do here. >> Mom, you said the kids can't stay here at night. >> You said the kids can't stay here at night. >> I've said the kids can't stay in here. Yeah, >> at night time. >> What? They going to stay here at night time when they offer you a place to stay? >> They offer me nothing. They can't sleep here at night. >> Yes, they did offer you a place to stay. >> So, what it is is she has to go to DS. >> Why? They did. >> She's got to go to DSS and see if they'll be willing to put her up in roadway. We don't know if that's a yes or no. >> Right now, our biggest concern is finding a place for the kids to stay. CPS doesn't get forced to have to house them with like a foster family. >> Yeah, but I told her that the lady right there that they can stay here if that was it. Me and Chelsea, we do not get along. >> Chelsea, right? >> Did they just tell you the matrix man said he seen you upstairs last night? When did you take that up out of here? And I said, "When is that?" So, >> who said that? >> They said they took you. You left out of here, Chelsea. I seen you like when did you leave? And Ted had the kids upstairs sleeping on the first floor. Didn't they just talking about what the welfare >> funeral was yesterday? Make it make sense. Why would I need to be out there when we had to keep >> Listen, I'm telling you what this lady just said. The matron man Louis said that you was up there last night. Girlfriend, I ain't scared of your fat. I JUST WAS TRYING TO TELL YOU THEY don't want to back in. >> I said that. >> They got to go. They're not going to send out my mother. They got to get out. >> I'll shut the door. >> Get them out. Everybody go. >> You need to make a decision. If you're not >> I just made the decision. >> They're with my mom. >> She doesn't want them there. >> They're going to be there whether she wants THEM THERE OR NOT. >> We can't force her to do that. >> So why don't Listen to me. Can we go to D? >> No. Miss. No, I'm not going to DSF. I'm suing them. They're safe. Just leave me alone. >> I CAN'T. >> MY FATHER JUST >> I know that. >> Leave me alone. >> I can't be able to make a plan or they kids aren't going to be able to stay WITH YOU. >> THEY'RE WITH MY MOM. >> NOW YOU ARE SAYING the children are >> I don't want to see them in our home. I don't want them in our home. >> But 10 minutes ago you you were telling me the other thing. So I went outside, relayed that message, and she came in. Ha. >> Right. But you said if she could I told you I explained to you that if she could if whatever I'll do the kids if it's the one your last word what if it was the last resort and I that's what I'm saying I will take care of going to remove the kids the kids can stay here with you >> right not Chelsea >> I understand you're frustrated I'm trying to talk >> right I'm frustrated because my mom's going to have them at night time I have them during the [ __ ] day I'm a grandmother y'all put my kids in danger I didn't >> Okay I I don't know any of this. Who are your kids? If you're a grandmother, do you have kids that are adult kids? >> Yeah, I just told you I had to send them off. >> Well, I didn't know if you meant older enough that >> you got 21 13 and three. >> What could the >> fouryear-old GRANDSON AND ONE ON THE WAY NEXT MONTH? WHAT THE MEAN? >> LISTEN, could you >> I'm pissed. MY FATHER JUST I don't have time for this. Could your 21-year-old potentially be >> My 21-year-old, I sent HER TO HER FATHERS. THEY DON'T EVEN WANT TO BE here cuz y'all was nasty in Auburn. Like I said, >> well, we're just trying to FIGURE OUT. >> I DON'T PLAY ABOUT MY KIDS. >> I KNOW. WEIRD. >> NOW, I SAID THEY'RE THE SHE'S THE ONLY living one for them. >> Okay. So, if she can get her to agree, >> SHE'S GOING TO WATCH THEM REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE Y'ALL SAY. >> YOU'RE not passing this for Halloween. >> I have to go AND MAKE SURE THE go is so I can go get my kids clothes on and get >> I got to get my paperwork. >> Hold on. Let me talk to mom. You just supposed to let me. >> What? What you mean? >> This is mom. >> Mom, can we come in and get paperwork? >> I'm doing the most. You better tell these people. Don't I'm YOU KNOW WHAT? NOW Y'ALL TAKE HER AND THE KIDS. NO. Take her and the kids. She ain't demanding me to do. I love y'all. I'll see you when you can. Okay, that's it. Take care. >> You're not allowed. I'm done. You ain't going to disrespect me no more time. now cuz they all up in my face. >> My kids can't even spend the night. >> Go ahead. >> That's right. With your dumb li. >> Despite police efforts to handle the situation calmly. The mother's lack of cooperation prolonged the resolution. She held the child closely, seemingly out of concern and uncertainty. >> So, we're going to get to a point where if you're not cooperating, then they're going to I guess we're robbery. >> I know. Listen. This is why I'm pissed off at my mom because of y'all. You're on my >> I got a spot. I been had a spot. >> I have an obligation. >> Get my shoes and I'm leaving. >> Okay. So, listen. If DPS ends up getting a court order saying that >> if my kids get taken, I'm going to her ass. I understand that. I'm my mom. >> I don't want that to happen. >> I know you don't. >> So, don't touch my kid because I will beat my mother. I will beat her to death. It won't happen. >> Understand that. >> It's a promise. >> Let's go. >> No, you can't take video. Here's the paper. >> I'm about to you. You're under arrest. >> You can't touch that [ __ ] >> Get the off. Man at West Tennessee apartment. >> No, I'm not. >> You got to let her go. >> No, I'm not. You don't do that [ __ ] in front of my daughter when I walk out the door. No, I'm not. You got to >> I told her I was going to her face. I did that in front of two sheriffs. Who the are y'all? Call them. >> You're right. You got to call her cuz you want your child. >> No, you're holding my child. You shouldn't be holding my child. You shouldn't be holding my child. >> Let the baby go. >> Let go the baby. >> Let go the baby. If I ever wrist, >> let go, baby. >> Let go. >> Let go. >> Let go of the baby. >> Let go the baby. >> Let go baby in my You punched me in my head. >> You punched me in my head. EVERYBODY SAW THAT. >> YEAH. NO. Just hold on. >> YOU I'M HOLDING my to ME IN MY HEAD. >> DOES the kid get any medical from her? Squeezing her or anything? >> CPS right now. >> Does the kid need any medical or anything? >> No, I think she's fine. We'll get her checked out >> cuz we can have medical come here. She's squeezing her pretty hard. >> Bud over your chest, buddy. >> Do you want your skateboard, buddy? Do you want your skateboard? >> Skateboards with us? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you want some stickers? Let me grab your skateboard. Okay. You want your scooter? I'll grab it. Okay. And your scooter? Okay. Hold on. >> Do you want some stickers, too, honey? >> Okay. Are you okay to take those? >> Yes. I can take them. >> Yeah, I'm good. >> Yeah, you me and my >> face the wall right there. >> The mother faced charges of harassment, seconddegree felony, obstructing official duty, endangering [music] a child's welfare, and resisting an officer. Seeking support from professionals and social services is crucial to stabilize emotions, provide safe care, [music] and cope with life pressures. >> 925, we're stopped in traffic, not with a car. >> Put your car park. Stop. >> This mother likely didn't expect that handling a tent traffic stop would require her to rely on her knowledge of citizen rights to protect herself. On June 14th, 2024, a situation occurred when Penllis County [music] police pulled over a mother for a speeding violation. When approached, she responded defensively and continued driving briefly with her young children still in the car. >> Hey, roll out your window. >> Put your car put YOUR CAR IN PARK. >> Put your car in park. >> Why? >> Because I'm stopping you. Where did it show that I was the car that was point and shoot type of thing? >> Exactly. So, how do you just GOING TO SAY THAT IT was me if it was MORE THAN ONE CAR DRIVING on the road? >> But you're going to have to get through your suspended driver's license hearing first with the state of Georgia. >> What? >> Your driver's license is suspended. State of Georgia suspending your driver's license. Why? cuz I'm pronouncing. >> This the last time I let y'all put your hands on me, bro. >> This the last time. >> Yeah. >> Yo, this is crazy, bro. Yeah, this um this the last time I'm I'm going to make an example out of y'all. >> That's like the last time she did the hit and run. She ran cuz she threw her license suspended, right? This underscores the importance of remaining calm and informed about one's rights and responsibilities. Strange odors and concerning items appeared in a vehicle with a child present. Yet, the adults initially denied responsibility. >> I don't know. I really don't know. I know I had in my pocket. I'm telling you that. But that 20 if I got to go to jumper, that's not mine. >> On June 25th, [music] 2025, Orlando patrol officers conducted a traffic stop for a driver failing to stop properly and having heavily tinted windows.
