And then she says I her first, but I didn't. >> These children are being looked [music] after in ways that are not suitable for their age and development. >> That wasn't what you trying to do. That's your boyfriend? >> Yeah. He's 33 years old. I've done everything I can to complete probation. >> YOU'RE BROKEN MY HEART. STOP. NO. We were looking at the stars and the boats going by. I didn't know. On October 25th, 2023, officers received a report about a child being with a stranger behind a house showing unusual [music] signs. You go over there in Indigo Lake or you go over this way, it's just right in our area. You know what I'm saying? Hey, we go back there and talk to him. >> Yeah. And and and look, let me know what they you got and let me know. >> I'll swing, baby. >> All right. Good. Thank you, baby. >> All right. Same. Yes, ma'am. >> Officers arrived at the back area and saw an elderly woman, a young girl, and the woman's companion temporarily staying in a small tent. >> You must really want us to take your granddaughter from you, huh? >> No, I don't. They lost it. >> You know our trailer got messed up with the storm and the camper. She was in. There was a FEMA camper, I think. And they took it. They took the camper. >> They want to know what time you come to pick me up. >> I should be there by 10:30 at the latest. Sir, I'm coming to pick her up. She's going to come and stay with me at my house until her trailer gets moved over there. I'm going to come and get her and my niece. If you want, you could have my address and my phone number. >> She's going to come stay with me. >> For the time being, though, y'all have to pack up. Y pack up and leave like ASAP. We'll pack everything up, but I can't move until you know I get gas. >> Let me >> Okay, >> put some gas in the lawn mower. >> When asked where she lives, the grandmother [music] gave inconsistent answers. Hollywood, River Road, tents, a friend's home, or an unfernished room. >> The last time they was on a le just mattress and blanket or something. They were um yeah, they were on the other side of Levy with a like a whole mattress. >> Hello. >> Just a he or me talking to my sister. >> Okay. It it don't matter. We're standing by. We're waiting for a supervisor and everybody. >> Okay. >> Where have you Where have you been staying? >> I've been staying in the tent. >> Where has she been staying? >> During the day she goes to school and last night she slept with us. Man over there told us we had to go last night. See? >> Yeah. >> You going to hang tight in front of his cupboard? >> Told us we had to leave last night. My intentions wanting to come back here, but it did contact me. >> Okay, here's the thing. Longterm, where is she sleeping >> longterm? She'll be at in Holden. >> No, not where she will be. Where has she been? All this time since the last time we saw you cuz you went to her daddy's house. So, where has she been since then? >> I didn't go to her daddy's house. >> The last time we dealt with you over there off of River Road by the Levy. >> Did he her dad or your son came and picked y'all up? Remember that? >> No. My son gave you guys the wrong address in Hollywood and I seen my case worker the next day. >> Okay. >> Okay. We from then staying out here at the Best Western. Okay. >> Okay. Yeah. It's kind of Stop, please. Kind of expensive. >> Mhm. >> And we were just trying to regroup regroup. We were staying over by some friends last night. He said, "Everybody's got to go." I don't know what happened. >> We need a phone number. If you've been staying with friends on Cedar Street, what's their phone number and their name? You have to ask Matt. >> Okay. Because we need to get that information. >> Okay. Um but who is he to you? >> MY BOYFRIEND >> STUCK. But my sister's coming over to >> What do you do with that? >> So, >> we're waiting for supervisor to get here to decide whether or how we're going to go the next route. So, you're not leaving until we're done with our investigation. Your wallet. Are y'all looking for him? >> To be to be honest with you, I don't know where he stays all the time. >> Okay. So, if he gave the wrong address the last time we dealt with you, where did our deputy drop you off at? >> I don't know because he got that address for my son. All I know was in Hollywood. >> So, y'all didn't go in the house? >> No. >> So, where did y'all stay? >> I stayed with a friend. >> No. When they dropped you off the last time, where did y'all stay? Okay. >> Even though the situation was complicated, officers made every effort to reassure the young girl, ensuring she felt [music] safe and cared for throughout the process. >> You want to be my friend? >> I am going to be your friend. I met you a long time ago. >> You don't have no phone on him. Neither P. >> How come you go to school today? >> Uh, I don't know. I can't Nola's bus at school. I like Chickaletta. >> Me, too. >> Chickaletta is the cutest. >> Yeah. >> Tell this officer. Who's Chickaletta? >> Chickaletta is a chicken. >> Here's your chicken. And who does she belong to? >> Mayor. >> Mayor Gway. >> Good job. >> You know Paw Patrol. >> So, this young lady is my friend. You're going to >> You're going to go to my office. We're going to wait for the ambulance to get here. Then you're going to go with Miss Caroline. Okay. Because the ambulance has to come see all you boows and they might put that thing on your arm that goes like this. >> I like it. >> You do like it? >> It tickles. >> It tickles. >> But I don't like the the grape juice. But I do like good grape juice cuz that makes that is good for me. >> Oh wow. >> Previous records show this wasn't the first time officers [music] had stepped in. Custody had been placed with a grandmother after the child's parents lost it. But having authority didn't replace the responsibility she [music] needed to fully provide for the child. >> Definitely right there show >> I don't know what's back there but this is fresh. It's not old and grown over. >> It looks like they using that though he think it might be. That's why I didn't try and walk cuz I know I can't just walk up there. I want to use that to pull up like you said >> and maybe going to the bathroom back there or something >> probably. You want to know what's crazy? I worked I worked mama's kitchen last night. >> Mhm. >> And they drove right past. I've been seeing this lawn more for like the past couple days and uh I just thought it was, you know, just riding. >> Well, you had no reason to know what that >> Yeah, but I only saw him driving. >> I only saw him driving it. I didn't see the other two. >> Well, he's probably going back and forth getting them a lot like food and stuff. I MEAN WHAT THEY DO AS adults with their life is one thing but that cannot be part of this. Honestly bothered by the fact that this is the second male we call grandma having >> grandma told me that uh she just told her while you was talking to him. She said uh the guy bear whatever she said his name is. The reason why she didn't stay over there because she found out he had a prior house change. Please don't fall. You got good place to stand. I was just trying to make a path on my own. Could it just be a bathroom? I look like it's a hole dug. >> Okay, puppies. We'll >> be okay. I know. Well, we got a call a couple weeks ago. We were on night shift. The woman in the with the mattress that's in here. They didn't tend or anything were laid up on the other side of the levey off of 44, I think, near the base. >> That's where she used to stay. >> Yeah. So, it was right at the end where that meets 44. They were just over. >> I don't know. >> She had to film a trailer. because her original trailer got messed up for iron and they probably came and took the trailer. >> Yeah, they were staying over there because she was still letting the little girl catch the bus at the bus stop, but they were with some big really nasty like smelly guy that they called bear. And we thought that was really offsetting. It's like how are y'all even connected? He was like all cuddling up with them. They were looking at the stars is what the story they gave us that day. Well, now she's camping out with a whole another dude with her granddaughter in the tent. Like it's just not a good situation. She says that dude there is her boyfriend. But that dude has been around because he's the owner of dogs who I am. I gave him a summon before because he used to have like four or five of them. One of them had got loose and went on somewhere else probably and bit somebody. >> But I don't think he's staying with her. >> I think there's another there's something else going on here. That's just But every time you ask her about where you stay like the last time we dealt with them, she said she was staying in the shed behind the house she used to live in. There was another RV over there with some friends that were staying. She said a little girl was staying with them. Well, she didn't. It was like 2:00 in the morning. She didn't know we were actually going to go wake them up and they're like, "No, we had to go out days ago." So, the wasn't staying there. So, she's done nothing but repeatedly lie and she tries to beat around the bush about where the kids staying. We were trying to get the kid away from that guy the last time cuz we had nothing to arrest anybody on or anything like that. And she called the father of the child, which is her son, and he came he came walking. So Zlio took all of them over to an address in Hollywood. Supposed to be where the son lives. >> Yeah. She's telling me that they never actually went in the house because it was the wrong address. Her son gave the wrong address. So I think the son's homeless, too. I ask her where they went and stayed. She said her and the back to that guy's house, Bear, that was with them. He stays in like a trailer around there somewhere. So they actually ended up back at his house. The little girl ended up back with that dude for the night. >> That's what bothers me. It's like it just the whole picture just doesn't look right. dogs, >> right? It's very clear with all the kids clothes piled up over there that she did didn't just come here for one night like she tried to say that she ended up staying here last night with them. Just spend the night with them. I don't believe that. I believe that staying here with her whole time >> probably. >> And I mean, I understand she didn't want to lose her grand. >> The mother, >> the mother, the last time we talked, I think the mother lives around me or something. Mom like lost custody or lost rights or something like I think both parents have like the dad's been arrested for like that's all the information we found out the last time. Grandma actually has custody of the child. And I mean, I know it's heartbreaking to her to lose custody of her grand, but she could reach out to a shelter. She could make efforts and she's not making effort. This is not effort. >> Health and well-being checks for everyone involved were conducted afterward. >> How are you? >> Five. >> No way. >> Can I show you what I can do? >> I can do this. >> Oo, >> but with both of my hands. >> With both of your hands? >> Yeah. I like to go to the fifth box, too. >> That's the middle finger. >> It is the middle finger. >> You can't stick out the middle finger. >> That's not nice, is it? >> No, but you can stick out this finger. >> That's your index finger. >> The pin pointer. >> That's right. >> This is your pointer. >> That's better. >> Well, I like fun. >> You like fun? >> Yeah. And I like Scario Elsa with the face. >> Where did you see that at? >> At my at Eva's house. >> Oh, >> she has a sister in her butt. >> Does anything hurt? >> No. >> Can I push on your belly? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. You want to lean back, Mommy? You wearing a diaper? >> Yeah. >> Why? >> The baby diaper. >> I know. >> But sometimes I wear pull-ups. >> I'm just going to look at your belly. Okay. Do you wear pull-ups sometimes? >> Yeah. >> Does that hurt? >> No. No. All right, turn towards Thanks. I like your shoes. >> Thanks. And I want mine. >> Those are my my friends. >> Okay. Can I see your arm? You know it. Do you get this done at the doctor? >> Yeah. At my favorite doctor. >> Your favorite doctor? >> I have a bubble right here. >> Oh, you have a bunch of bubbles. Does that hurt? >> Right here. Does >> where the funny spots are? >> Yeah, it does. All you toesies are there. All you piggies are there, though. All right, sister. You want to go back with them? >> I'm gonna go talk to that lady some more. Okay. >> Okay. >> It was nice meeting you. I hope I get to see you again. >> Okay. >> Look, that's your new teddy bear, too. >> I like teddy bears. >> You like teddy bears? Okay, good. >> Step up. >> I'm not going to walk. >> I don't think that's up to me, man. It's up to them. >> Yeah. Once you in your handcuffs, I can't take them off you. I I just don't understand why y'all taking that. >> I don't think we're the ones that you need to have that conversation with. Okay. I'm just here getting your vitals. I have no part with the cop. Your blood pressure should pull some oxygen or fine. I can check your blood sugar. But I mean, if you ate last night, it should have fine. >> I lost. >> Yeah. I mean, it's it's a bunch going on and >> it's too late. >> I'm sorry. There's nothing that we can do for you, though. Okay. All right. >> Back. Where are you guys taking me? Where y'all taking me? I say she already took my grand ID set. >> I don't understand what >> the grandmother has been charged with to juveniles. Under [music] Louisiana law, she could face 5 to 40 years in prison without the possibility of probation. No one is born a perfect parent or [music] grandparent, but every adult must ensure a safe, warm, and supportive environment for children. This mother had just completed a period of special supervision. But only hours later, her limited ability to provide care led to another legal issue. >> I'll check my bags where you're not around. You want to wait for me right here? That's fine. >> Chelsea, >> what? How long has it been since you used any >> I've been clean for over a week. I get tested three times a week by >> On March 7th, 2024, police in Sarasota received a call from a relative concerned about the child's well-being. The report mentioned the mother appeared distracted while caring for her young child. Officers arrived and saw the mother's car leaving quickly, showing signs of unease, though it was unclear if the child was inside. >> Hey, it's Officer Roberts. >> Hey. >> So, this is what I got. I was dispatched down to for a complainant reporting that her daughter was in her house when she's not supposed to be with two uninvited guests and they were using signal 57 while her child was present. So, it's kind of like a child investigation. I was sitting a couple blocks away trying to call the complainant for more info. A vehicle drove past. At the same time, she was telling me it looks like they just left, which she observed through her cameras. The people in the car looked like they were trying to hide from me and then ran like went around a car, ran a red light. So, I thought, "Okay, this must be them." turn around on the vehicle, try and catch up to it, and they immediately go signal 12 once I get behind it with lights and siren, and they start going around cars running red lights. So, I stopped following. I just checked the area, make sure there are no signal 4s up to Va Vista. Turned around, came back to School Avenue to check the apartment. So, there's a chance the girl could and baby could be here at the apartment. I haven't knocked on the door yet. I'm trying to get the complainant to come back up here. At the very least, we potentially have some kind of a child investigation. the signal three and uh potentially fleeing to elude, but it looked like a black male driver. No idea who he is or if the girl and the baby were even in the car. >> All right, team me up, Dave. >> Yes, sir. >> The mother explained that her supervision period had just ended. She hadn't broken any laws and provided explanations regarding the vehicles in the area. >> What's going on this morning? >> I left this morning to go to the Salvation I came back from the Salvation Army >> and we're getting housing. I just completed felony probation. >> Okay. >> I'm off of all that. >> Okay. >> There's nothing going on. >> Okay. What happened a few minutes ago with you guys [clears throat] when you pulled out of here? >> We pulled out of here. Yes, ma'am. >> And what car? There was two different cars. >> A white car. >> Yeah. >> Oh, that's that his name is um Lavaro. Lavar. >> Which car were you in? >> I was in the black twodoor. >> The black twodoor. >> The black Volkswagen. >> Okay. All right. Where's that car now? >> What car? The black Volkswagen. >> He just left. He just dropped me off. >> He just dropped you off. Who's this little guy? >> It's my son. >> Okay. What's his name? >> All right. So, you were over here earlier collecting some property. >> Yeah. >> Okay. What's your last name? >> But I didn't I didn't break nothing illegal. I didn't do nothing wrong. My mom left me come here. I've been staying with her for the last two weeks. The baby. >> And your first name is Let's see. And so, who were you over here with earlier? Who was driving the black car that you left with? That is um my god his name is Tim. No >> Ben. >> Ben. >> Ben who? >> Ben. Ben. I know where he stays at and embrace him, but >> Okay. But you don't know him? >> No. You don't know his name? >> How long have you known Ben? >> Like a month. >> So you've known him for one month and he drives a black two-door Volkswagen. >> Yeah, it's a Volkswagen. Like a four-door, but it's a a GT. I think it's a four-door. >> Okay. Uh, who was driving the white car? >> Can you come back when my mom comes home? >> No, this is not something that can wait. We have to take care of this now. >> Okay. >> I'm 1012 with one of the subjects of this complaint. Can I second unit for assistance? 1074 106. >> More people. >> What's that? >> More people. >> I just need one more person because I can't talk to you. And did you hear my phone ringing? My phone's rang like three or four times since we've been standing here and I can't answer the phone and talk to you all at the same time. All right. So, what did you do this morning? You said you went to Salvation Army. >> I left the Salvation Army and came home. >> Came home to get Aiden >> last night. Yes. And I stayed home with Aiden. >> I talked to Lavar and I talked to Ben. Ben said he come drive me. I didn't look at my phone to find the My >> Do you want me to try and call it? >> No, it's >> okay. So, I don't know. This is where we're going to be. I'm going to try to get in the house. >> We're going to hold off on going inside for a little bit. >> It's too hot. My son's out here. Either that or I'm going to take him to a hotel room. >> Understand? >> It's too hot. >> You were over here with Lavar and Ben. Who left with who? >> Lavar's girlfriend. Her name is I don't know. He's got a little girlfriend. They left together >> in Lavar's white car. >> Yep. And then me and Ben and the baby left in Ben's car. >> Okay. When you guys left, did you follow Lavar? >> No, I didn't even see. Lavar left before we left. >> He left before you guys left. Okay. >> Has Lavar called you or contacted you since he left? >> At the water club. >> Did he tell you what happened? >> No. >> All right. Do you have a phone number for Ben so I can talk to him? See what's going on? >> Yeah, when I find my phone. >> Do you mind if I check to see help you find your phone? >> No, I do mind if you check. >> Okay. >> I didn't break any laws and um I have no Chelsea. >> I know my rights. Okay. I have I have just got off of three PBLOs. I'll be damned if I'm going to let an officer move to myself. Do you mind? Of course I might. All y'all have ever done is lock me and take me for my kids. >> I'll check my bags where you're not around. >> You want to wait for me right here? That's fine. >> However, certain concerning signs such as unsteady speech, difficulty maintaining balance, and unusual behaviors raised caution for [music] the officers. They needed to find a temporary solution to ensure the child's safety. >> How long has it been since you used any >> I've been clean for over a week. I get tested three times a week by >> How long has it been since you >> Since I used over a week? >> It's been over a week. >> Y >> can you stick out your tongue? You do. >> I just ate ice cream. >> Can you open up your mouth? Stick out your tongue. Okay. >> All right. >> I'm not using >> Chelsea. DCF is >> Your speech is slurred. You don't stay on your feet. You have pot marks on your tongue. You have several indicators that are consistent with somebody who's recently used How long has it been since you used something? >> I told you Saturday of last week. >> Saturday of last week. >> What else do we What else do you need for us? >> I'm going to wait for my other officer to get here. I'm going to make some phone calls and then we're going to figure it out. 9 to 8. We're on the back side of the apartment. Do you have a phone number for Ben while you've got your phone out? >> Hey, she is I think the medical term is high as >> right now. I'm going to try and get her mom's down in Venice. I'm going to try and get her to come up here. She's either going to jail or she's going to the hospital. I haven't decided which yet, but we're going to have to have somebody to take care of. His name's >> He seems okay now, but it's it's starting to get pretty hot out here. I'm going to make a phone call. If she gives you any problems at all, give me a shout and come back. We'll put her in cuffs. >> Okay, sounds good. >> Hello, this is Travis. >> Hey, Travis. It's Officer Robert. Sorry, Mr. Call. >> Yes, sir. Um, my wife called me. I guess there's some situation with her sister. Do you need me to come there? I'm 15 minutes away. So Chelsea came back, so we're speaking to her now. So I don't think I need you to come here anymore. But her mom, we're going to have to figure out something. I think Casey's mom is going to call Casey and see if she can come. >> Okay. And he didn't get injured in the accident. >> No. So at this point, it's kind of uncertain whether they were even in that car at the time, which is good. >> Yeah. Yeah, it's good for him. I really She just needs to be Whatever. Never mind. >> Okay. Well, I'm going to be there anyways in 15 minutes. I just don't want Casey to have to deal with all this. So, I'm going to I'll just talk to you here in 15 minutes. If we need to take him with us or whatever that looks like, we'll figure that out. >> Oh, okay. Perfect. Then I'll see you guys soon. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Hey, S. I just wanted to give you an update real quick. So, Chelsea returned to the apartment with the infant. There's no reason. She says that they left with a different person in a different vehicle and were not involved in the crash. She is high as a kite. >> How did she know there was a crash? Did you tell her? >> No. No. Uh, but she is high as a kite right now. >> What I'm saying is that she says she wasn't involved in a crash without us letting her know there's a crash and obviously she was involved in a crash. >> So, I haven't brought up the crash yet, but she said she left with a guy named Ben in a black Volkswagen and her friend Lavar left in a white Ford sedan uh separately from her. She said she has no idea what happened with the white Ford cuz he left the house before they did. But I haven't questioned her specifically about a crash, but nobody's answered. Aiden seems fine, but like I said, she's high as a kite, so she's more than likely going to be 10:15 for child as soon as we get a caregiver here. >> Okay. >> After assessment, the mother faced legal review immediately right after her probation period ended. >> Hey, Chelsea, is that Lavar's car? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> So, signal 12 vehicles involved with this. >> Yes. >> Have you talked to Lavar? Do you know what happened to him in his car? >> Okay. Well, if you weren't there, then that's Lavar's business. I'm not going to get into it with you and it's not anything personal. It's just I don't want to air his business out if I thought maybe he'd talk to you about it. Were you able to find a phone number for Ben? Do you have a picture of him on your phone? >> Can you fire out for a 33-year-old white female conscious and breathing? She's impaired on her and she's in and out of consciousness. >> Yes. >> I'm not in and out of consciousness. I'm tired. >> Take a nap this time. It's time to go in. I know ambulance here. I'm going to tell my mom. Y'all can go. Okay. Well, I'm going to get an Uber and I'm going to go. >> Okay. >> All right, Chelsea, put your hands behind your back. >> I'm going to jail. >> What did I do? You got to call my mom to come get the baby. >> Stand up for me. >> What did I do, sir? >> What did I do? Tell me. Hello. >> I didn't do anything. >> Are you serious right now? >> My son. You can't leave my son here. My mom has to come and get him. Please. >> We're not leaving him here by himself. >> But why am I going to jail? You got her and I have to stay with her. >> I can't search her, though. Do you want to switch? >> Yeah, we'll switch. >> My car's right here. >> Yeah. >> What am I going to do? >> Here. Can you start it up and turn the AC on, too? >> Chelsea, I'm going to come explain it to you in just a minute. >> I didn't do anything, though. >> Come on, man. Stand right here. Put in the car. >> That's crazy. >> Do you have anything sharp on you that's going to poke me? And something >> well my guess is is that you're under some sort of right and you have that's your son correct? >> Yeah. I'm not on sleeping medicine. I take methadone every morning. I have a open DCF case. They come and test me. I don't think I'm going to go to jail for that. >> I'm not sure. You're going to have to speak with the other officer, the investigating officer. Okay. He'll explain it to you. >> Oh, those are all roaches. What's in it? >> Marijuana. >> No marijuana. They're just >> tobacco. Okay. >> I've done everything I can to complete probation. What's going on now? >> Are you guys still looking for >> nothing? I'm not sure right now. >> Huh? What's going on with you now? Nothing. I'm doing good. >> Promise you. >> It's okay. I'm just not doing anything. You don't have anything in your search me when I get to the jail and everything. Yeah, but the problem is if you have something on you, it's another charge. >> I know. I know. >> But I just want to make sure >> I'm not going to go to jail, right? >> Yes. You said you're going >> to jail for what? >> He'll explain it to you once he once he comes back. >> 10 is going to be >> He'll be able to tell you more about it. >> Can you give him my phone? >> Yep. Everything's wrong with you. >> No. So I can start calling my bond. >> You can't call right now. Once you get booked into jail, you'll be able to call. It's going to take a long I'm I'm turn it on right now. >> A relative offered to help, but due to financial limitations, they were unable to fully care for the child. >> Travis. >> All right. >> Are you guys able to get inside and get him in the air conditioning? >> So, my I'll put him in my truck for a minute. Okay. >> Um my wife's on her way here. She's going to have Mind if I go start my truck? >> Yeah. He seems pretty chill, but it's he's got to be getting hot. 38 straight. >> I know. We're going to get you in some air conditioning, buddy. >> Is this a bag you need to check? >> That's all diaper stuff. I've already looked at it. >> I just want to make sure like whatever. Like, I get sick and tired of everybody trying to cut her deals. Like, like, row the freaking book at her and send her away, please. Okay. >> She needs it badly. >> Yeah. Uh, look, I try to cut people breaks when I can, but when I'm I'm looking at her high as a kite, can't take care of >> smell something cuz right not alcohol, right? >> No, it's I don't smell any alcohol. Little kid, the kid's the victim. Uh, so I'm not going to I'm not going to pull any on this. >> Well, the issue is that I I I'm well known in the area and I have a lot of businesses and so it's always been put on I when you meet my wife, her her is her halfsister. It's very different. And so the problem is is that she's it's very hard to find a program that take uh kids. So she wanted to put that on Kelly, my mother-in-law. But the problem is she has a full-time job. And I'm not going to I I don't need another kid in my life. I've got four of my own. We also are the guardian of another kid who's paranoid. Like I'm not I don't need like so we whatever. So I'm trying to handle that delicately over the last year. But in this situation, I just I I like whatever you found, please don't cut the grass. >> Yes. Deal. Okay, >> it was already going to happen anyway. I can't do it when there's a little kid involved. So, basically, she got checked out by rescue, so she's not going to overdose. So, once Casey gets here, I'll just I'll get her information, make sure that Aiden's going to be okay. Got to give DCF a call and let them know. >> You want me to give her information to you and then you can just >> I can't leave until a >> I understand that she she'll check in. I'm just saying it'll save you some time so that when you just verify it's her, look at her ID or however you do that. The mother had spent time with unfamiliar adults and officers found concerning items in her possession, emphasizing the need for legal oversight. >> Hi, >> what's up? >> You and I both know that's not true. Listen, it's true. >> You and I both know that's not true. >> So, who you >> I told you that's been with you for some time now. He'll be here in a second. He'll explain it to you. He's going to explain everything to you. All right. But your brother-in-law is here to do. Okay. Yeah. He has a baby. I've seen me. So, how does this work? >> We found some in your bag. >> What? >> What are those? I don't know. We're going to have to test them unless you know what it is. >> Those >> I don't know what he collected from your bag. >> Oh my gosh. So, >> what was in your bag? There was in there was and a powdery substance which would have been. >> Yeah, but I don't want to go to jail for that. >> So why are you carrying that stuff and why are you doing it? >> I'm not doing it. >> So why do you have it? >> Because Ben left it in the bag when I got dropped off. >> But it's in your possession. You already know how that works. >> I know. You're going to have to talk to the judge. All right. But you're saying the powder substance is >> so I would not open that or go through it. Just stuck it in a stick it in a corner and give it back to her when it >> like out of it. >> Everything that I found that you are not allowed to have I took out. >> Uh but one of the things was an open plastic bag with some kind of powder that looks like a little bit of it spilled onto a shirt. >> Yeah. I I'm not I can't collect a little bit of loose powder, but it is spilled on that shirt in there. My spilled cancer. >> It's up to you. >> In my trunk. So, >> yeah. She just said she just wanted the cell phones out of there. >> Chelsea, look. So, you got a ton of stuff in your backpack and I got to sort through it and figure out what it is. Okay. I need your help to do that. Since you're under arrest, though, I'm going to read you your rights under Miranda. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can or will be used against you in court. Do you understand each of Chelsea? >> I must say, >> oh, I'm sorry. Do you understand each of these rights? I explain them to you. Okay. And having those rights in mind, are you willing to answer a couple questions about these things? I know you already told the officer that you had, but look, I'm not a expert and it's going to help me out. This was in your like leopard skin purse. It kind of they kind of seem like pills that are mashed up. >> I got I got to see closer out. Those were they look to me. >> No, they're white, I think. white. >> But I am a little bit color blind. They're white. >> Once they're white, they're just um but they're a low migraine. >> Okay. And what the heck are these things? >> Oh, my earplugs. >> Earplugs? >> Yes. >> What about these? >> These are my >> And then this was out in your backpack. >> Yes, it is. >> There is. There's powder in it. >> Well, what was it? >> I'm guessing it was all >> Okay. You're going to be charged with this. You're going to be charged with child. You can't be impaired while you're in the care of an infant. That's not safe. All right. >> The mother was charged with child and possession of a controlled substance. Under Florida law, she could face up to 10 years in prison. Caring for a child is not only a legal duty, but also a moral responsibility. [music] Any lapse can affect a child's safety and well-being. Sometimes the line between disciplining a child and inappropriate behavior is so thin that a single action can break trust within a family. >> I got in her face. I sure did. I have a right to be in her face. She's a minor. >> On January 29th, 2024 in Georgia, police received a call from a 17-year-old daughter reporting a disagreement with her mother during cleaning. They quickly arrived and recorded her statement. >> We are getting to fix it, right? So, I was she woke me up to go said that we had to be out soon, okay, >> to start packing. So, I start getting my stuff and she's in there calling me lazy, you know, going off or whatever. I'm like, "You're the reason why we're getting evicted. This is all your fault. Why are you?" >> So, then she starts getting in my face, like real in my face. And then she's like pushing up on me. So, I push her off of me and then she grabs me by the hair of my head and she just starts swinging me by the hair of my head. And then she says I hit her first, but I didn't. And she hit me in the eye and she hit me on the side of my face. And then as you can tell by my hair, she was me around by my hair. And I'm 17 years old. I get like whoopins and stuff, but that's not a woman. You full on put your hands on me. This whole bunch more arguing. And then what? After I called, she want to try to swing and then my brother got in between us. And then she tried to grab me by my hair again before y'all got here. Like she's ridiculous. >> Who else is in the house? >> Just my brother and someone helping us here. >> How old is your brother? >> Okay, do me a favor. Stay out here for me. Okay. She inside? Yeah. >> What's your mama's name? >> Approaching the mother, police noted that the conflict began with typical teenage defiance combined with external pressures that escalated the situation. >> Natasha, come here. Thank you. Mom, come here. Hello. >> Hi. >> How are you? >> I've been a lot better. >> I got you. What's going on? >> She's a disrespectful little mother. That's what cuz somebody asked her to help. Think she can talk to some anybody some way. So that that's what that's what's wrong. >> All right, let's start from the beginning. I woke her up. So, we got to be out of here by 1:00 today. Go look at her bedroom. I woke her up to help. She don't want to help. She wants to start screaming, cussing me, calling me name. So, yeah, I got in her face. I sure did. I have a right to be in her face. She's a minor. So, then she wants to swing on me. So, yeah. >> 127 1081. >> No, I didn't give her. She ain't got no marks. She needs to be hit. >> Did she hit you? >> She tried to, but she wasn't able to. She She's not >> Where she trying to hit you at? >> She's trying to hit my face. >> No marks on you or anything. No, she didn't me. But she tried. >> You got your ID on? >> No, I don't. It's in the car somewhere. I mean, my house is tore apart. I don't know. >> What's your name? >> Natasha. >> All right. So, you're saying there's no physical contact whatsoever? >> No. I mean, she tried, but she didn't actually me. >> You? >> No. I should have though. I should have I should have >> Yeah. And you can't even get through here right now. >> You [clears throat] know what the is on her left cheek? >> No, I I haven't heard. I I'll tell you if I did. I mean, >> yeah. Just the problem is she's we're hearing something else and she's got a right here on her eye and then a mark on her cheek as well. >> Well, she deserves one. She deserves one, but no, I didn't. I mean, >> I have see your hand there. >> I mean, that's her moving. That's scratches for moving. I mean, she Yeah, she don't want to help do. I mean, >> you're saying you got in her face and >> Yeah. I mean, I'm yelling at her cuz she's cussing and carrying on. You know what I'm saying? Like, this ain't just my You know what I'm saying? Like, I mean, it's ridiculous. I mean, I've been over here slave driving for 3 days while she's laid in the bed doing nothing. >> Where does this situation turn? Y'all's in each other's face, whatnot, and then >> she me and tries to swing at me. >> So, how does she try and you like >> she don't try, she does me. >> Okay. How does she do that? >> What do you mean? >> Like show like show me >> like she me. >> So, two hands. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, she then what happens? >> Then my son gets in between it. >> Yeah. Break them up. >> Okay. Was that successful? You able to break them apart? So, it first happened and then you all broke apart or whatever. >> They broke up. They started arguing again, but they didn't start fighting again. >> Moving out pretty quick, huh? >> Yeah. I mean, Georgia only gives you seven damn days. So, >> deal with the eviction if you don't mind me asking. >> I failed to pay. >> Oh, >> I mean, I lost my job 2 months ago because of my youngest daughter getting in juvenile and had it took took me a week to get her out, all that good. Oh my god. I don't have time for this. >> Hey, just till we get done. If you just stay right there. >> Can I grab a jacket? >> Can you give me just a second? There's got to be two. >> Grab one for her. >> Yeah. >> Grab my phone, too, cuz this is [ __ ] Like we got we ain't got time, man. She needs she needs us to go around me. We got to be out of here. I should have busted in her. What's wrong with kids these damn days? This right here. >> The daughter also shared her perspective, creating two different accounts of the incident. >> You know, you just gave your whole spiel, but you got to give me another quick version. All right. >> Okay. So, she came in there this morning like a couple different times telling me to get up and that we have to be out soon. And I was pretty much like, I'm just getting my room because it's all your fault. The whole reason why we're getting evicted, all the reasons are your fault, so you figure it out. Well, I'm in there getting my stuff together and she comes in there to help me take my bed apart. I didn't need the help, but she came in there anyways. I don't know why she argued she was in a bad mood, so she should have just left me alone. So, um, she came in there and then while she's taking down the bed and stuff, she's complaining and she's calling me lazy and all types of other [ __ ] I pretty much told her, I was like, "This is all your fault. everything to do with this is your fault. Like I don't know how I can explain this to you any other way. Like you cannot complain. This is all your fault. And so she starts getting my face and and like she's like chest bumping me like like not like pushing me like that but like pushing me with her chest and like up against the wall. I just kept on yelling at her, get out of my face, get out of my face, get out of my face over and over again and she just wouldn't. She just kept on pushing with her chest. So I her off of me and then um she just kept on going and kept on getting in my face and she grabbed me by my hair and that's when I guess she started like me by my hair right here and he already took a picture and stuff my brother he tried to separate it and stepped in between us and I had her by her hair or her shirt or whatever I had and try to separate us and then she start she cuz like she can only through this way and like this was my only open free hand cuz Ed had like this hand blocked and her hand on that side which would have been her left hand was blocked. cuz she had a right hand and she was had me by the hair of my head and started and like me on the side of my face and the other dude came in there and broke it up and then she kept on going and kept on going. I was like, "I'm just going to call the cops." She was like, "Call them. Call them." >> So she >> Yeah. >> After reviewing statements [music] and examining the scene, officers determined the situation went beyond a normal conflict, indicating concerning behavior. They engaged directly with the mother to address it. >> All right, Natasha, here's the deal. You'll be going to jail day. >> Okay, >> that's great. >> She's got marks on her. Her scalp's red. So, everything's just kind of cooperating from what she's saying. All right. Not saying I don't believe you, but >> Well, she needs to go to jail. I mean, all this over her and because she's a lazy disrespect. That's what's wrong with these kids. Talk to adults any kind of way and nothing's done about it. How many times have they been called about them and their disrespectful? Oh, we'll just make a juvenile report. Well, then when somebody does put their hands on them, they go to jail. It's ridiculous. Which I didn't put my hands on her, but I should have. Next time I will. And >> just everything. We're losing everything cuz we got to go to I got to go to jail because you're dumb [ __ ] disrespectful sister. So that's good for my son and everything, right? That we losing all this. >> There's not much I can do right now. >> There's not much you can do about it right now because she's aing liar. Where's my mom at? Can I go talk to my mom real quick? >> I just got to put you in handcuffs for me. Okay. >> Here's my phone and my keys. Ed, >> here. Let me get those to you. >> No, no. Just just get what you can get and everything else. This goddamn [ __ ] got me mad. So I got to jail because she's a disrespectful. Next time I promise to god I'll daylight out of her. I will make sure I get locked up for you. >> She ain't getting nothing out of this house. We have to lose everything because of her. She can lose her. So >> probably 1095. >> No. I hope you're happy. Come get this stuff out of my pocket. >> I don't know. She ain't getting out of here. Should we lose all our stuff? She can lose hers, too. >> I'll make sure all your stuff gets I'll have Bobby come and help me. >> No, you don't. You got seven days. >> Stop arguing. >> That's how smart you are, smart one. >> Next time I'll be out of her. >> And she's not getting her until ours is out. >> Just ignore. >> Ignore. Ignore. It's easy to say ignore. >> You got anything else? >> You let your kid talk to you like that? >> You got anything else on you? >> No, I don't. I don't guess so. Stick me. I hope not. Ignore her. Do you ignore your kid? >> Well, I know you're frustrated, but >> No, I mean, do you do you let her talk to you like that? >> Well, she's not she's not old enough yet. >> Okay. Well, when she is >> All procedures were conducted professionally, ensuring the girl's safety while respecting the mother's legal rights. >> This right here, it's a victim's rights notification form. It's resources and all that stuff. You want to read over that, you can. You have any idea where you're going? >> Yeah, we're going to my papa's house. >> You know the address? Um, I know the street. >> Oh god. >> Godamn ignorant. >> Well, I want to press charges too. I want to press charges >> on who? >> On Tyler. She me. That's a That's a You can't put your hands on somebody else. >> Definitely look into it. >> Look into it. >> The way the way. >> Oh, so I just went in there and just started beating on her for noing reason. >> You know what I'm saying? >> Hell, my son said what? We was tied up. So therefore that means I was too. Takes two to tango. >> Do you have any questions or anything? >> Do you have uh options for I mean y'all kind of go at it often, don't you? I mean >> Yeah, but it's never this bad normally. Like >> just been arguing and stuff or >> like she'll like make like a smart comment every now and then, but like I just moved in with her like 5 months ago. >> Yeah. Get that on your phone. >> Yeah, >> probably. I got I just moved in with her about like six, five months ago and like everything's been fine. >> Um, like an adult, >> everything's been fine. And then I guess today like I guess she's stressed out and stuff, but like so are we. I don't mean you come in my room and take it out on me. >> Like I didn't do anything to her. This is a mess, okay? I I understand you got to be going through something, okay? >> The mom, >> just just hear me out, okay? I promise you, I promise you we're going to talk, okay? But I just want to establish, all right, all the stuff that just happened between us, I got no ill will towards you, okay? All right. But the thing is is that there's always a reason why things happen. You know what I mean? So, I'm willing to listen to why all this stuff happened. And I and listen, human beings are human beings and human beings go through a lot of stuff, you know. But before I listen to what you have to say, I got to read your rights because I don't want to violate your rights. You understand that? All right. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can will be used against you in a court of law. You can decide at any time to exercise these rights and not answer any questions or make any statements. You understand that? Is that a yes? >> Yes. >> Okay. What is going on that that that we we got to this position? What's wrong? >> I work at I've been working there for a year. I've been doing really good. my mom, I had my baby daddy come over and um he does reservation and stuff and so she she like she like was mad that I said don't talk to her because the way she like treats me and acts I don't I didn't want her around me. Um so then she kept going to my grandma and got me kicked out and I literally >> When did you get kicked out? >> That's the thing. Last night and I ain't get no sleep. You >> got kicked out last night. >> I'm sleepd deprived. I would never do my baby like that. I feel like the dumbest person in the whole world. Um literally. And I was begging for her to watch her. She would not nobody will watch her for me. And I literally kept saying, "Please help me." Like I even called I even >> And this was all last night. >> It's been I've been saying, "Can I please get some rest?" And I please get a little bit of rest. Love my baby all my heart. And this is And as you guys know, this will be my second time. And and I literally do everything for her. >> Okay. >> And the guy the guy he whispered, "I got your money." And so I went in his pocket to get it out and he out of me on camera. He said, he whispered, "I got your money." And I shouldn't have did that, but it was all I have. Remember, I called you. >> So, yeah, we we talked this morning, right? So, so I met you this morning like you were worried, you know, because you you just wanted to file police report cuz you didn't have your DL social security. >> How could I do anything with her if I have nothing? Now, >> I don't disagree. So, I'm glad that you called for that because I'm still writing that report. Okay. I get all that information. So that's proof to the court right there that my money was taken. And then this >> Nobody Nobody Listen, we don't know if your money was taken or you just lost it. You even said that to me, right? >> No, he said I took your money. He whispered, "I took your money." >> Okay, I hear you. Listen. Listen what I'm saying. So like I drove away because I was just going to take a lost property report. >> And then I go in there and he whispers, "I took your money." >> And then and then you went you went in his pocket. Did you go in which pocket did you go in? His left pocket? >> I I don't even know. >> Left or right? Well, you're you're right. It is on video. >> And he was kept on me. And then even when >> you took his money and ran outside, right? >> But then I came back in and gave it back and he still came out. >> Well, you gave it back to him outside, right? >> Yeah. >> The mother had asked an acquaintance look after the child. While her situation may evoke sympathy, putting a child in a potentially unsafe spot still requires caution, especially given her previous involvement with child protective services. >> And then you came cuz you left your baby. >> No, I gave it back to him with the same girl who I know who was watching her. Well, you left the baby in the stroller. >> Yeah. And she said she was watching her. Remember what? >> Yeah. She She picked She picked your baby up because she didn't know if you were coming back. >> No, she knew I was. I said I said >> The point The point The point being is that you left your baby inside when you ran outside with the money, right? >> No, I left her with somebody where earlier you already knew. >> No, I'm I'm not saying anything. What I'm saying is that >> you went you went into the man's pocket >> because he said he took my money and there's already police report on it. >> And that's fine. I I understand what you're saying. Okay. And I shouldn't have did that. I shouldn't have tried to get it back. >> You definitely shouldn't have. Right. And then you shouldn't have ran outside and your baby inside. >> No, I was right there at the door. You can see on camera. I wasn't all the way out. >> Yeah, you're outside the door. But he just got to you and stopped you. >> But I wasn't leaving her. She was with the same person you that was watching her earlier. >> Like I've seen the video and I know that girl. >> I've seen the video. I don't think you've seen the video. >> I know what happened. >> So that's what I'm telling you. Okay. So where did you go from there? Like I saw you walk north on Fourth Street by the time I got there. >> I was actually on the way to my grandma's to get the rest of my stuff. And then >> and your grandma's over on 21st. >> Uhhuh. The address I gave. >> The address you gave me. >> Mhm. >> So you go over there. What happened? >> And then my mom comes out and he says I took her guitar. I didn't take anything. I don't know how they're missing or >> your mom didn't call us. >> I know that. >> Okay. >> You told me that when you came. >> Yeah. >> And um all that. And then I was uh I was I was leaving even though I didn't have nowhere. I was going to ask the bus driver and I was just >> How did you get back over to your mom's? >> Um I got a ride. >> Okay. Okay. So, somebody somebody picked you up and dropped you off? >> No. Oh, yeah. Somebody I knew, a friend picked me up. I And then my phone died right after that. >> Yeah. I tried to call you >> and my phone died right after that. >> Okay. So, now let's get to the point where I see you walking on 34th Street. Okay. I see you walking on 34th Street. I'm coming up. >> If I was really hiding, I would have been back street. >> Well, no. What I'm what I'm saying is that you tried to you tried to push the stroller faster and then when I went to put you in handcuffs, >> I was just Hold on. Hold on. Yeah, let me get it out. Okay. I wasn't going to let anything happen to your baby. Okay. >> But now >> there is there is nothing more precious to me than children. Okay. >> Now CPS is still going to get involved. >> Well, of course, but here >> that is happening to my baby. >> Well, that's not I didn't I didn't make those choices. You know what I mean? So, I try to get out with you and you try to reach for her to put her to put her in front of you. >> I wanted to give her a hug. I knew I wasn't going to see her and it's like really really and it shows on my but why would you try and pick her up when you know that I'm when you know that I'm going to arrest you? >> I knew I wasn't going to see her. >> Do you think that I would do you think that if you if you just complied get >> if you just complied with me? Do you think that I would have let you say bye to your daughter? >> No. Because the police you weren't part of you weren't there last time my son got to. Aren't you one of them? >> No. >> No. >> I don't know anything about you. I met you for the first time today. The last time they the way they took my son was really bad. >> The interaction with police revealed a deeper story. Her action stemmed from family challenges, stress, and survival pressures. >> If you would have just complied, I promise you. >> And then you started grabbing you really hard. And I didn't even mean to you. It's just >> hold on. Hold on. >> No, it's on my wrist. So, we can hold on. But the are on my wrist right now. >> That's from when you tried to run and escape. Okay. >> What's on your wrist? >> That's That's from you twisting handcuffs on my skin. No, there is. There's already pictures. Did you see that right there? >> Twist the handcuffs >> when you tried to run. When I said, "Hey, my partner's here to search you." And then you tried to run after when you were up against when you It's on It's on camera. >> There's no video camera on you when you were >> Now there is, but when you bust my head, >> it's been there. It's been there the whole time. >> She asked you, "Do you have a camera at the scene?" You said no. >> I meant inside my car. >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah. That's why you got That's why that's why she transported me. >> Okay. So, >> so everything is on camera. You yanking me up with my with >> I 100% yanking you up as as soon as you tried to run for me. I was holding on to you with my right hand and then you took a step back as soon as I said >> I wasn't trying to run. >> Okay. Why did you me >> I did not I didn't you grab You were grabbing me up. >> But why did you I did not you >> BROKEN MY STOP. >> YOU WERE grabbing me up and it was a ref. Ow. And I moved my body. No, you had my hand. Is it on camera how you have my arm? I I've got everything. >> You were yanking it up and kept going and yanking it more and then it was like a reflex. >> Okay. >> You So you didn't have my arm one arm up and then like yanking me up. >> So you're saying that I caused you to me? >> No, what I'm saying is it was like me moving. I was like, "Oh, you're get you're hurting me really bad." And I moved and you're like, "You kicked me." >> No, everybody saw it. >> The camera >> The cameras will see it as well. >> YOU'RE BROKEN MY OKAY, THAT'S GOOD because the wrist >> because you initially said, "You bust my head. When you thought that I was running when I was trying to give my baby a hug. >> You were trying to pick up your baby >> and give her a hug. >> Keep her and go like this. >> No, I was trying to give her >> I just got your hand. I just got my hands on you before you could. Okay. >> I was giving her a hug. >> All right. Here's the deal. All right. Everything else is on everything everything in this Everything that you've done is on camera. Okay. >> That's why I'm the judge is going to be >> We should We should probably Maybe show some remorse. >> I definitely have a lot. I feel like >> I mean, you put you put your daughter in that position twice trying to fight with cops right on the side of the roadway. >> I was, but I do feel really stupid and dumb and I already missed my baby. >> I would have let you say bye to your baby. >> I should have never had to. I should >> with without a doubt. No, >> I'm saying I shouldn't even have tried to take things into my own hand. I shouldn't have tried to grab my money back. I'm I'm wrong.
