There you go. >> There's no key in it. >> I I I CAN PULL MY KEY. >> I CAN PULL MY key out, bro. >> Jesus Christ. >> I feel like he broke my thumb. I don't know. >> I've worked so hard. >> Somewhere between life's pressures and mental exhaustion. The safety of children can become fragile. >> Is this what she drank before the interview? >> Okay. >> I walked up. I started. The following series of events shows how a single poor decision can involve authorities while those most affected are the children who have no control over the situation. That midday parking lot was calm, yet it became a place where authorities had to step in to ensure the safety of two young children. >> They had ran inside. I've been in there for 5 10 minutes and they were having an issue returning back that I made sure that I was trying to return. On June 21st, 2024, police were called to a Harbor Freight parking lot after reports of two children around 4 to 5 years old left alone in a parked car with the engine off and no air conditioning. The situation drew serious attention from the officers. The father arrived shortly after, visibly anxious and concerned, fully aware of the importance of looking after his children. Thank you very much. Y Hi, sweetie. Are you able TO UNLOCK THE DOOR? Are you hot? >> I literally just walked in. Open this door right now. >> What is wrong? >> How dare you leave a child in here without the air on? Are you serious? >> It was on. You're crying, man. >> It was on. >> It's not on, dude. There's no key in there. ARE YOU SERIOUS? >> IT WAS ON. It was on. It was on. It was on. >> There's no key in it. >> I I I CAN PULL MY KEY. I CAN PULL MY KEY OUT, BRO. >> JESUS CHRIST, >> DUDE. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry, dude. Please. I'll take my key. >> What is wrong with you? I'm so sorry. >> Turn the car and get some AC. >> I'm so sorry. Please. >> Are you guys okay? >> I'm so sorry, guys. >> Are you guys okay, >> dude? I've literally been in there for like 5 minutes. Please don't take my case. I'm so sorry. >> That is ridiculous, dude. Where's your idea at >> Feel like I didn't smash your window out, dude. >> 35 241. >> Where's your idea? Here go. >> Can I please stop? >> I'm going to have the medics look at these kids. You sit over there. >> That's fine. Can I please talk to you? >> There's two two of them in there. Super hot. They're crying on >> Can I please talk to you? >> What? Look, I I've been doing this alone, man. I I tried to return something. I They're having an issue returning it. I didn't realize it was worth your hug. Just stay back for a second, dude. >> It's pretty hot, dude. >> I I ran in. I tried to return something. I tried to come back out. I move my key on and I thought that I had left it on. >> Car was off. Pretty hot. Come over here. >> 589 Avenue. She was turning into suicide vehicle. Does have depression and cancer. The father explained the challenges of being a single parent and expressed sincere regret for his actions. >> What's going on, man? >> I ran inside to return something. They were asleep. I didn't want to wake them up. They had helped me. We've been busy all day. >> I can leave my key on and leave the key or leave the car running. And I had thought I had did that. And apparently I had flipped it back. I had ran inside. I've been in there for 5 10 minutes and they were having an issue returning the idol that I made sure that I was trying to return. So I was coming back out here and then I see somebody walking around my car. I'm like what the >> Yeah. >> Like dude I promise it was an honest mistake. I'm I'm going through I've been doing this alone and they were in their fight. I I up and I realized that bro >> real quick. Do you have any warrants or anything like that? >> No. >> Huh? You got nothing? So my so my understanding is this is that these medics are saying it was extremely hot in that car. >> I know and I I up man and I up please don't take my kids from me. I [ __ ] up and I will never do it again. >> Well first of all you relax. I understand it's a stressful situation everything but buddy >> I know I up man. >> Yeah. So >> I'm so sorry. >> Real quick look at me realistically. How long were you in there? >> 5 10 minutes man. 5 10 minutes. I promise. >> You okay? 5 to 10 minutes in this type of heat with nothing running with the with the windows up in the car. You understand how hot that gets inside of a vehicle? >> Yes, sir. >> Do you understand that you can a child within 3 4 minutes? >> I didn't realize that you can go that fast. >> Huh? >> I didn't realize it was >> heat stroke is a real thing, boss. >> No. Right in the hospital. >> She's reaching for me. >> Not right now. Not right now. We're talking to you. We understand it's stressful. We understand everything else is going on. All right. Where are you working? I'm not right now. I'm doing this. I don't have help, man. I'm doing this alone. >> Where you living? >> Stay with a friend that's letting me stay with >> Well, okay. Right now, they're going to check your kids. Make sure your kids are okay. >> Okay. >> All right. This is what I'm You're just going to sit right there, buddy. Cuz I'm not going to put you in the back of a car. I'm not doing that right now. All right. Cuz you're talking to me. I'm talking to you. As of right now, the mess need to check your kids out to make sure your kids aren't Yes, >> sir. You're right. Thank you. Cuz I just want you to know like within 3 to four minutes they could have especially with no water especially with nothing. >> They had water they know. >> How old are they? >> How old are they? >> Us five and [ __ ] four. >> So a five and fouryear-old in a hot car. >> I know. >> Have a seat. Have a seat. But you need understand four-year-old in a hot car like that. Okay. Look, listen to me. They're not going to think to drink water. They're not going to think they're doing any of that. All right. So, from the outside looking in, cuz we've all dealt with this before. It could have been very bad. What if nobody called the police and they then what? >> I up. I already know. You don't have to keep telling me, man. I >> Yeah, it's back. He initially said he would be in the store for only 5 to 10 minutes. However, the time was later confirmed to be around 15 minutes or more, showing the crucial importance of always prioritizing a child's safety. >> Where are you guys living? >> We were living in >> finally. >> No, no, no. Check on them. your location. >> I think they're fine. >> Nobody knows what to ask to cool them down and everything. >> I mean, are they going back ahead? >> As of right now, I don't know because this I don't know if I can trust them going back with him at this point >> cuz he said he's only he said he was only there for 5 minutes. I said even 5 minutes. That's out in this heat with your windows up with with no AC going. I said you could have your kids easily. >> They said 5 to 105. Yeah, >> I mean they're sweaty. They're warm. So, I was telling him I don't think they need to go to the hospital, but they don't go for we need to take them for their safety down there. The med probably. >> Okay. He's in there. Okay. >> Yeah. They're very like your face. >> Do you want me to go in there and ask him? It's not like he's at the counter for a while. >> Oh, in the store. >> Yeah. Like how long he's in there for? >> Yeah. If you don't mind doing that, >> might be a security door, too. If he's been if this is so this would be my call I I'll talk to you about too. If he's in there for more than 10 minutes I think they should go get checked medically too. >> Oh yeah. If it's more than 10 minutes >> because this this he's saying he told me 5 to 10 but >> he originally told me five and then now he's saying 5 to 10. >> I'm guessing probably cuz he said he went in there to exchange to return something and he was in there for a while trying to work on exchanging it. So we all know how that can go. >> All right. But my main concern is make sure they're okay. Like I don't like not trying to be meme, but I don't I don't care about that. >> Like I said, medically I think they're fine. They need probably honestly need some water, you know, some fluids. Um but I just wonder for their safety if we need to take him somewhere. So more than willing to do that. Medically though, I think they're obviously hot. >> I'm going to go in there with him. See what Harbor Frey says. Okay. >> About that. Well, here he comes. Never mind. Cashier said 15 plus at least. >> Oh, they need they need to get the doctors probably get checked in at that point. >> Yes. 15 plus. I think they should get check cuz that's he's >> No. >> Well, his first worry was am I in trouble? >> Yeah. Why Why you worry about if you're in trouble and not your kids? >> If you need an exchange, you can take three kids there. >> Yeah. Exactly. >> That's That's my thought, too. He said, "Well, they have water." I said I said you think of three and how old they are four and a six-year-old or whatever you said going to think about to drink water >> standing out is that why you have to man I'm sorry to center there's I ain't going to lie to you There's in there. >> Oh no. >> At certain points, the father's concern for his children appeared limited, mostly as an attempt to justify his actions. Thankfully, the children remained safe, but that does not remove the need for accountability. >> I honestly thought I had left because I couldn't leave it. You know how some of the older cars you can flip them on and pull the key out? I can flip it on and I can pull the key out. >> It wasn't on when I got here. I know. I realized that as soon as I came out, I was like, >> you realize it's probably over 100 degrees in that car when I pulled up. I mean, that takes two seconds to ch children those age. You know, right? >> I don't realize. I'm sorry. Give people out. Hang out right here. How long did the How long did you see them in there? Um, well, I got here and I immediately started walking up to the store, but then I heard crying and I turned back and sure as hell the call was unattended. So, that's when I called 911. That was about from the time I made the call to when you guys got here. So, it's probably like 5 minutes by the time I got here. >> Yeah. All right. Thank you for coming. Thank you. >> Can I stand up? Just don't walk around. >> Huh? >> Just don't walk around. >> 92 degrees, dude. >> I know. And I went in there. Did you hear this? I went in there and talked to the cashier that she said he's waiting in line for 15 minutes. >> No. Serious. >> Yeah. They were all sweaty and [ __ ] dude. Well, at least you're still sweating. I got this child. >> Uh yeah. And then so we're trying to figure out he's I don't know if he's going to go with your sergeant or what but we're trying to figure out where they need to go if they need to go like you don't have a mom. Well if you're if you're going to not charge them with anything and move on then we can't really take his kids away from them. >> Oh I know. That's what I'm saying. We don't have to >> which I think. >> Absolutely. >> I mean medically they just >> you didn't take them like when they first got out. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You have everything on you? I'll pass you up real quick. Turn on physical. >> We're going to talk about I'm going to tang you right now. Okay. What's on your pocket? You mind if I take everything out? No. I guess we That's fine. You're not driving with the kids in the car where you're smoking marijuana. All right. All right. You're going to have a seat in the back of my car right now. >> Are they okay? >> Yeah, they're okay. They're just defending you right now. I actually just was in there for a return the other day. Kids were in the car with >> I left I left her home by herself. That's a little bit. At least it's cool in there. [ __ ] >> I was checking the doors though before I did it. >> The doors. Were the doors open? No, the back window's cracked. That would have been even better for him to say. >> I say we just talked to Anderson Anderson. >> Yeah, >> it's a misdemeanor. >> Yeah, >> I say we hug him. >> Yeah. Where's their mom at right now? >> Do you know her phone number? >> No, not right now. >> Do they have a grandma? >> Grandpa? >> Yeah, grandma. >> That's close. >> Yeah. >> Is she able to take care of them? >> Are you going to jail? >> Yeah. You're going to go to jail for a job, man. You can't leave your kids in here. You know grandma's phone number? >> Yeah. >> All right. Give me Give me a second. >> What's grandma's phone number? >> Can I please give them a hug? Cuz I know their mom's going to keep them from me after this. Please help. >> What's your grandma, though? Step out. I don't put your hand. >> Can I please give him a hug before you do that? >> Oh, turn around. Turn around. You should have thought about all this before you did a dumb stuff, man. I right. I'm sorry. That's too tight. >> Is it hot back here? >> Even if it was, I wouldn't tell you because I deserve it. >> All right, I'll see you. >> Did you get a hold of my mom? >> No, I think uh they're going to get dropped off at doctor's hospital. >> Are they okay? >> Yeah, they're okay. But it was just we don't have to take them right now. And then uh take them to my mom's. >> No, they're going to go to doctors, make sure they're all good. And then uh children services is going to go there as well. We we have to report on something like this, man. It's not like it's not like, "Oh, you messed up. Okay, here's your kids back. go do it again. You know, it's something we we are required. Otherwise, I don't I'm not I'm not going to lose my job over time, I guess. >> No, I know. And I've worked so hard, man. >> Well, you got to make better decisions, dude. I don't care how hard you work. >> I was It's not that Yes, you're right. I do need to make better decisions. And this is my fault. And I'm not going to blame it on anything other than myself. And I'm still >> I mean, the cashier in there said you were in line for 15 minutes. >> No, I wasn't in there for a There's no way I was in there for 15 minutes. I thought they dude by the time I mean at least they were they were in the car for over 10 minutes. By the time I got the call and got here it was about 10 minutes. >> Then they had to have woken up from me shutting my door. >> They were screaming and crying cuz they were so hot. >> I dude I >> The car was not on at any point. Dude, put your foot in there. >> The children were left in the car for up to 27 minutes. long enough for the interior temperature to reach unsafe levels for young children, highlighting the potential risks that caregivers need to be mindful of. >> Hey guys, >> that was in the corner. >> Uh, she's went to the back or something. Okay. >> Hey Jordan, they need you up front again. >> I don't know if the sheriff's after you. >> Trying to tell me. Oh, they can they can drink water themselves. There's water in there now. Hot water. >> Yeah. How are you? So, my understanding you're you're doing the return for this gentleman. >> I refused to do a return because he used half the product and he must have >> communicated that that like they they they usually would handle that. They asked me cuz I'm a leader on duty, not just because I served him, but they asked me, "Can he return it if it's half empty?" And I was like, "No, I did not say that he could return it if he used I just said it. >> So, if you don't mind, could you do a witness statement for me? State like like he came in here to return the product, what it was, and like you don't have to go into too much detail, but just like just give us like a rough estimate time he was in here because he's telling us a totally different time. >> I can check the camera >> than what Yeah. And if you guys have camera footage as well. >> Yeah, I can check the camera and see when he came in and he was right there kind of in camera view. I can go back. >> Yeah. And just give us like a rough estimate time, too. Like he was in here approximately this time trying to do this. >> I can I can just backtrack on the camera and get you like a time. >> You can do the return. >> Yeah. This this is just this is >> ruin this guy's life. >> No, no, this is something totally different. Thank you so much. >> All right. All right. >> The father was charged with child. Under Ohio law, he could face a sentence of 6 to 12 months in prison. Temperatures inside a parked car can rise quickly in just a few minutes. And for young children, the risk increases rapidly, reminding everyone of the importance of always keeping children safe above all else. Ohio reveals a raw moment of life where people struggle under pressure and an innocent child almost suffers the consequences of adult decisions. >> Why'd you get drunk before interview? >> Um because we had court and we're supposed to see his mom. His mom is locked up and her boyfriend was also >> on January 24th, 2023. Ohio police received a report of a car going off the road. Inside were two women and a 4-year-old boy. When officers arrived, the scene was tense. One of the women began crying and seemed overwhelmed while the officer's immediate focus was on ensuring the child's safety. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> Are you guys okay? >> What happened? >> She I was coming home. There was a car with me and she was in front of another car and she was doing finally pulled into this drive. I'm so glad. But I live and so she sat here for a long time. I got her out of the driver's seat because she couldn't drive and said she was driving here. Yes, she was driving. >> She was driving. >> Are you telling? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Why were you driving, honey? >> I came up when I was going this way and I saw something on I saw a woman trying to get another woman off on the ground and I just thought it was them. >> Are you both willing to make right statements? But >> yes. >> How much did you drink today, babe? I'm just telling you. Hang on. Listen to me for a second. Okay. I don't believe you for a second that you haven't drank any alcohol today. Honestly, it's your best policy here. How much did you drink today? >> Do you use any today? >> No. >> Okay. Would you be willing to go through some skilled sobriety tests to make sure you're okay to drive? >> But I'm not drinking. >> I have to ask, guys. I have to ask this. I do my job. Tanya, >> Tanya, would you be willing to go through a field sobriety test to make sure you're safe to drive? Sorry. Okay. Are you willing to go through a field sobriety test? >> All right. Let's do it. Let's go. Let's do this. >> I got you. Let's go. >> Were you in the car with her? >> Yeah. >> Okay. How much? >> Where did she drink? >> Come on. Stand up with me. Can you stand? Okay, here. Sit up for a second. Can you look at my my >> There you go. Yes, sir. Sit up and look at my pen and I'll do that. Can you do that? >> Yeah. >> Can you see the the tip of my pen right here? >> Follow it with your eyes only. Follow the tip of my pen. Can you do that? Can you do it? Yes or no? >> Yes. >> Yes. Okay. Follow the tip of my pen. >> Okay. Okay. You're not able to do it. Okay. Stand up. >> No. Stand up. Stand up. >> Oh, yeah. For sure. I smell it. >> Okay. >> Against the cart. >> Where'd you guys come from? >> She came from a job interview. >> She showed up like this to the interview. >> Was it after the interview that she did this? >> Huh? Should you do this after the interview guest car? >> Well, I'm sorry. >> 307 registration. >> Yeah, I didn't hear you either. >> You got to >> got what? >> I was going to say the tag, but I'll get it while we're walking back here. We're going to the passenger side of this cruiser over here. Okay. Yeah, we're not. >> Let's go. Come on. >> Let's take a walk. >> Come on. >> Let's go. We're walking. >> Girlfriend, it's 3:00 p.m. >> I know. >> Oh, I'm sorry. >> Yeah, fine. >> I got her. She needs it. Let go. >> Yeah, I'm going to help you. >> What you drink? Huh? >> Yeah. >> What' you drink, Carl? What? >> The 4-year-old boy was not secured in a car seat, a serious safety concern. Police had to act quickly to ensure his safety before addressing the adults involved. >> Okay. There's no way she went to an interview like that. >> Yeah, she went to the interview >> like that. >> Um, >> or did she drink after the interview? >> Uh, >> or both. Like what? >> While the interview, I don't know. Wow. >> Yeah. During the interview, I don't know. >> What did she drink? >> Um, some brandy. >> She drank brandy during her interview. >> Okay. Did you have anything to drink? >> No. >> No. I don't. >> Yeah. >> I'm the passenger with my brother. Uh, >> no. >> Whose child? >> My brother. Uh, this our is our brother. >> It's your brother? >> Yeah. >> And her brother? >> And her brother. >> So that's her family. >> Okay. Oh gosh. >> Hey buddy, what's your name? >> What's your name? >> Your fourth. What's your name? >> Cameron. Do you want a sticker? >> I took the key. >> Okay. You can just leave them right there. The seat on. >> Oh, you can turn the car on if you're comfortable doing that. >> I just feel like with him. >> Why don't you have a car seat, Bubba? Where's your car seat? >> There was something about um they went to the courthouse to see a dad in jail today. >> So, you need a car seat here, little man. Huh? >> Yeah. You sure do. We'll get you taken care of. Huh? >> I love the jacket, buddy. >> Yeah. So, um >> No, no, no. I know. I wanted I can't explain that to you guys when she's sitting right in front of me. Um 49. We've got one female in custody. Um >> the SFSTs, the fieldy tests are technically to determine if someone can drive. I clearly knew she was not driving, but I have to ask the question anyway. And if she agrees to do the tests, it just helps our case in court proving her into classification. Oh yes, she probably correct on that one, too. I'm going to run her through test >> like this. >> What was she like? >> And the dad got at first. Autumn >> dad of the kid. >> Dad of the kid. >> Yeah. What's your phone? >> I think so. >> I think so. >> So, I'm assuming her dad as well. >> 7918. What's What's dad's phone number? >> Darren Mar's day of birth. >> Um, his my dad's date of birth. Is your phone in here? >> Is your phone in here? Do you want me to get it? >> Hey, buddy. Can you hand me that phone? >> Thank you. >> Do you want to get your dad's number out of here? >> He is on the way though, correct? >> Uh, yeah, he said that. >> Did you get kids in? >> Huh? >> Kids info. Uh, my dad, did you want >> He's four years old. I got to get a date of birth. What's the phone number? >> Uh his my dad's number is uh 2597. >> What's uh what's Cameron's date of birth? >> His birthday is uh September 10th. >> 4 years ago. >> Yeah. 4 years ago. >> 18th >> 16 uh 17. >> Could the other adult, the only other responsible party for the car and the child, be trusted to manage the situation safely? >> He's four. So, >> if he's four, turning five this year, it would be >> Yeah, he'll be Yeah, absolutely. >> Are you wanting to drive this vehicle away? If so, I need to run you through SSTs real quick to make sure you're able to drive cuz I don't believe you're sober. >> I am. >> Can I run you through tests to make sure of that? Okay. >> What was she drinking? >> She said Brandy. >> Christian. >> Christians. >> Christian. >> Is that Brandy? >> It's Brandy. Yes. >> So, here's the deal. If the test doesn't pass or fail, the field sobriety test, but if you show levels of intoxication at all in the performance, you're not driving this car. >> Okay. And if if you >> It's not my car, though. This is my sister. She has >> No, that's fine. >> We're legit. >> Issue is just you driving it right now. So, I'm just saying if for some reason I'm not comfortable with you driving after you do these tests, the car will get towed. Okay. And then your dad will have to take you. Okay. Let's step over here. You're not going to be in trouble if you are intoxicated or anything due to you being a passenger. All right, just hang. I won't let you dry as I do think you're intoxicated. I'm just going to do some eye tests with you. Okay, here I'll face you away from the sun here. >> Do you see the tip of my pen? Okay. Yes, ma'am. >> Put your hands at your sides and your feet together. Just like that. Perfect. Do you wear contacts? >> No. >> Okay. You don't have glasses usually? >> No, ma'am. >> Okay. No medical conditions at all. Watch the tip of my pen right here. Follow with your eyes. Try not to squint if you can. Follow with your eyes only. Don't move your head. >> Eyes only. Don't move your head. If you need to hold your hand still. Okay. Hand. Okay. Eyes only. Go ahead. Okay. Eyes only. Okay. Eyeballs only. >> Okay. I'm not even going to finish the test. You ain't driving that car. Okay. >> Your dad will come get you. All right. You want to sit in one of our cruisers or sit in the car while you while you wait? >> I can sit in front of my bed. >> You want to sit in the back just so you're not in the front seat at all? >> Excuse me. >> Yeah. Your sister's going to sit in the car with you. Okay. >> The female driver employed as a nutrition assistant had made choices that put everyone at risk. What could have led her to a state of mind that resulted in such a lapse in judgment? >> Where what's going to happen to Snider? >> So, she's under arrest for OBI. >> Oh, yeah. How much brandy did she drink? Do you know? Was she just drinking it straight out of a bottle? Was she taking shots? How was she drinking it? >> I know she had a little pint, but it's not in the car. Where's that? >> Uh, I don't know where she Where was she drinking it at? >> Just kind of like She was drinking it in the car. What? Before the interview. Okay. And where was the interview at? Uh, Ketaring Music Oaks. Ketaring Oaks. >> Yeah. She's a dietary aid, so she's trying to get the job. Why'd she get drunk before interview? Um, because we had And we're supposed to see his mom. His mom is off and her boyfriend is also You guys have same dad, different moms. We have the same dad, but all different moms. Me and her have the same mom. He has different mom. Yes. >> And you were going to court to see his mom? >> Yeah. I was going to the court to, you know, be by her side. >> And she was upset about that. Is that why she joined? >> She was upset because her boyfriend of 2 years is also in court, too. And was also getting sentenced the same. One day his our brother's mom is getting sentenced. Oh, so she >> What's he getting sentenced for? >> Oh, okay. Under 13. So he has like four years. And then his mom got sentenced for a probation violation. Okay. She was a ex. >> That could definitely cause a person to drink. >> So >> I would say that. Yep. >> You have a lot going on. >> Well, you can have a seat in the back with your brother if you'd like. We're going to be in the car, though. So, make sure you have your purse and everything else that you would want out of the car. Okay. Thank you. >> Yep. Make sure you sit in the back, not the front. Okay. >> Did you ask for a toe already? >> I have not. No. >> Poor. I'll take a toe. >> Is there I can take that piece of paper if you want. The child's mom is in prison. >> Yep. That's what she she I guess his mom just got sentenced to prison today and her boyfriend of two years just got sentenced out today as well. So that could toss them on to jury for sure. >> So if you don't mind, I can take all of that. And if you don't mind just having them do statements. >> Oh, you want statements? >> Yes, please. >> Okay. All right. Very good. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> I'm going to do her for OBI and child engagement. So >> Oh, absolutely. That Yeah, you have to. Yeah. >> He has to be a car seat or booster or anything in there. >> Y >> I'm going to tell this guy. >> Okay. >> What police found in the car became part of the investigation. The vehicle was secured and the case proceeded to the investigative stage. >> What is my sister for? >> For OVI. >> What's OVI? >> Operating vehicle while intoxicated. >> For how long? >> How long? What? >> How long is she going to be in jail? We're just going to run her in, book her in, and she'll be able to call someone that's sober. So, not you, probably your dad, and dad will be able to come pick her up and get her. So, as soon as we get her to the jail and get her booked in, someone can come get her. Can >> I say bye to her? >> She's asleep. You can try. >> She's sleeping. >> Oh, yeah. She fell straight to sleep. >> No, she didn't. >> Oh, she's sleeping. >> Since you don't even know what's going on. >> Uh, does she have a phone in there that she'll want? >> I'll have her. Do you think she'll want it? That way, she can call people. But yeah, I think I should give this to >> This is her phone. >> She have anything else that she want? >> No, that um her phone. >> Does she need any of those keys that are there? >> Oh, yeah. Her car key. >> Well, so the tow truck driver needs the car key. Is there like a house key on it or anything? >> Yeah, she does. I don't know which one is which. I don't know. You know, I know she also has a work key and stuff. >> Okay, then what I'm going to do I don't know if you want to. >> I'm just leaving that in there. She can have the rest of these. Perfect. >> Thank you. >> Yep. >> He doesn't know. He wants to see his sister. I don't know. It's so miss boxer. You can't see [ __ ] right now, Bubba. Okay. She'll be back soon, though. Okay. She's going to come hang out with me for a little bit. Okay. >> I might hang out with police officer. >> She'll be back soon. Girl, you told me it wasn't in the car. >> Is it in the car? >> Hell yeah, it is. >> I don't know what she did with it. >> Is this what she Is this what she drank before the interview? >> Okay. >> Yes, that's probably not it. >> Was it full when she started drinking it? Okay. When did you When did she start drinking it? Like what time was the interview? >> The interview was at 1:00, but I know she went late. >> Okay. So, it was probably around >> Okay. Are you dad? Okay. So, Taniah is going to be under arrest for >> I go to jail. >> Okay. >> Where's my son? >> He's in there. Do you have a car seat or anything? >> Where's the car seat at? Oh, you said >> you idiot HAVE A CAR SEAT. >> She's drunk, too. She's not allowed. >> She go to jail, too. Take care. Not my son. I ain't got enough. She's stupid. I didn't >> girlfriend Were you drinking this straight? >> Were you drinking that straight? >> Oh, no. I didn't know about that. >> What were you drinking? >> I didn't have nothing. I have no energy. >> You're a liar. Well, you may not have Hennessy. What'd you drink? I mean, you're not in trouble for drinking because you didn't drive. >> Right. So, what did you drink? >> I have no Hennessy. >> What did you drink? >> You I'd be begging him for a ride >> cuz if he leaves you here, >> we don't have many choices. >> What did you drink? Are you taking me? >> They need to learn a lesson. All they want is you sitting there watching my son while I watch. You do. >> I didn't hear that. I didn't do that. >> No, I'm not. >> You don't think they know? >> I didn't I'm NOT She's asleep. She's sleep. >> Where's Natalie? Y'all towing the car? >> Yeah, it's getting >> Can I Can I move it somewhere? >> They're going to tow it straight from here. >> No. Can I move it? >> This is the car. >> Keep it from throwing it. Yeah. >> Oh, no. It's getting towed. We already got the toe. >> Hey, whose name is >> Annayas? Okay. >> Her name. >> Yeah. >> The female driver was charged with violations of traffic laws, driving under the influence, disorderly conduct, and child. Under Ohio law, she could face 1 to 5 years in prison. Empathy should come with clear boundaries. Every adult has a responsibility to create a safe environment and manage stress without putting others, especially children, at risk. >> I smoked all cuz I I smoke to help me with my mental issues. I mean, I I smoked it all cuz I I smoke to help me with my mental issues. >> This house didn't fall apart due to lack of resources, but from adults losing focus on caring for their children. On August 17th, 2024, police received a call from a mother reporting concerning behavior from her husband. Her anxious state and unclear speech prompted officers to respond immediately, ensuring the children's safety, while the mother herself was not fully able to manage the situation. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> Hi. Is are you home here home alone? I >> I'm here alone with my kids. My husband broke my phone. >> Where's your husband at? >> I don't know. He just got in the car and left. >> Ambulance or anything? >> I feel like he broke my thumb. I don't know. >> Do you want me to call an ambulance for you? >> I don't know. I I really don't know. >> Do you want me at least come take a look at you? You don't have to go with them. >> Yeah. >> Okay, I can do that for you. Have a seat. Have a seat for like Are your kiddos okay? >> Yeah, they're fine. >> Any other pain or complaints? >> No. >> Okay. Is your head hurt or anything? >> No, it's okay. >> Okay. >> He threw me into the wall, but I know it was in self-defense. >> Just just your hand. >> Yeah, I can't move my thumb without hurting right now. >> What's transpired? What happened? >> He >> He's not here. >> No, he's not here. It's just me and the kids. Okay. So, what's okay? >> Yeah, my kids are fine. They don't know what happened, but they're fine. >> What? So, what happened today? >> Me and him have been separated for a year. >> Okay. >> And I'm trying to get my boyfriend to come up and stay here. And he's just refusing and he's >> we have a boyfriend and a husband. >> Yeah. Legally married. He's legally married. Yeah. But we've been separated for a year. He's throwing in my face that we that I haven't paid for rent. >> We brought him over here today. >> He lives here. So you and him still live here. >> We still live together. My boyfriend just recently moved out a week ago. >> Okay. So originally it was you. >> Originally it was me and Toby. >> Yeah. >> And then a week ago for two weeks it was me and my boyfriend and now it's me and Toby again. >> Anyway, so they everybody's kind of living here coming and going. What happened today to start all the fighting and stuff? >> I just I I I told him because I told him that I was feeling veryable and he told me to get the out and get away from the kids. That's not the way to handle somebody when they're going through like that. So, we just we got into it and started yelling. There was fist flying. He broke my phone. >> So, let's back up a second. So, I I kind of needed like every little step that happened. I know it sounds tedious and it sound like a lot to go back. >> No, I just >> So, where were you guys at when this all started? >> In the bedroom. >> In the bedroom. So, you told him, "Hey, I'm not mentally feeling right." >> I said, "Hey, I need help. Like, you're not helping me." >> He got mad at you. >> He got mad at me. >> Gotcha. What transpired right after that? Like there was there pushing that started first? >> Yeah, there was pushing and started. I started it. >> So you walked him and pushed him? >> Yes. I walked up. I him. I started hitting him in the face. I will admit to that. >> So when you hit him in the face, did you push him? Slap him. >> I punched him in. Yeah. I his arms. I pushed him in the face. I hit him. >> You bit him. Okay. >> I hit him. I >> You hit him. Sorry. Sorry. Yeah. >> They were talking the same time in my ear. So when when you did that, how many times do you think you hit him in the face? >> Probably three or four. I he told me he's got proof on his face of me and him and that the cops won't believe me. >> What happened next? >> He shoved me to the bed. I ripped his shirt in half because he was on top of me. I told him to get off of me and he said no. He broke my phone in half and I asked to use his phone so I could call somebody to come and get me and he said no. >> Okay. So, how did you call 911 today? >> I literally hit the the home button and hoped to God that it would work for Siri. So, >> Oh, okay. That's good. So, where is he at right now? >> I have no idea. >> What's his name? Toby. >> Toby. Toby. >> Toby. Y. >> Okay. So, where would Toby go right now? >> He'd probably go to his grandpa's. >> Where's his grandpa live? >> I don't exactly know where his grandpa lives, but I know it's like over by Windsor Heights area. He needs to come back here. So, >> how can we get him to come back here? Can we call him off your phone? >> I not really. >> Can you go Hey, >> I don't say if Siri works for 911 if I work for him. >> I I tried calling multiple contacts. >> Did you say call Toby or something? That's a actually now. Okay. Yeah. >> Has Toby ever been in trouble with law enforcement before it? >> Yeah, >> he has. How how recently? >> He's had three theft thefts uh eight years ago when we first got together. >> Eight years ago. How about in the last like 2 years or so? I'm ask question. Is he listed as your emergency contact? >> Yeah. >> Here, let me get you let me get you information. What's your first name again, ma'am? >> My name is Taylor. >> Let's go down here and talk to these guys. Okay. Same with the walkway up here. >> The mother said she felt overwhelmed but also admitted to contributing to the conflict. This shows that tension in the home doesn't follow a simple pattern and every adult action can deeply affect children. >> Hello. Hi. Who's watching the kiddos? Mom is okay. Only two of you guys. Okay. There's a 2-year-old somewhere. Hey. >> Hey. Don't be scared. Don't be scared. That's okay. One's back here in this room. Where's the other one at? Oh, hey. How you doing? I'm sorry that's a 2-year-old back there. I check on your kids for you. Okay. Then I have the officer standing with him for now. Okay. >> Yeah. Um my autistic wants to choose if that's okay. >> That's fine. Yeah. Go right ahead. Yeah. And he can show me this uh hole in the wall too or something. Wherever. >> Yeah. It's down the hall. Don't look at it. There's two. The top one is from my head. The bottom one's from my foot. >> So I smell some alcohol, right? What's you guys been drinking today? >> Yeah. No, we we've been drinking. Yeah. >> How much do you think you have to drink today? >> I don't know. About half a bottle. >> Half a bottle of what? >> Half a half a glass bottle of um black velvet. Black velvet >> like straight >> with Coke. >> Okay. About to say that's kind of a strong strong drink there. You guys are both liquored up basically. Both out all drinking. Okay. >> Third shift. He was trying to sleep and he didn't want to deal with me. >> So you both are drinking, right? You guys get a heated argument pushing into walls and stuff like that, right? Okay. So in the serious question, are you you had mentioned to me earlier? I just want to reiterate. Did you say you're the one that him basically? >> I came at him first. He did. So besides him holding down the bed and pushing into the wall, you did all the kicking and kind of or starting. That's that's your stuff. He didn't you or anything like that? >> Yeah. No, he just me into the wall. >> Gotcha. >> So I know that I'm the one at home. >> Gotcha. All right. This just for purely investigative purposes, but would you mind just giving me a measurement of how much alcohol you have on your system right now? Have you blown into a tube? >> Yeah, I can. I Yeah. >> Okay. Awesome. Have you ever blown into one of these before? >> Yeah, I did. >> Bons Okay, good. 203. >> 203. is tired than it was on. >> Yeah. Here, take it, please. Jesus. >> Huh? Take it off. >> Yeah, take it off. Pull it. There you go. Taylor. Taylor. Right. >> Who's this? Is this Is this >> Hey, buddy. >> My oldest. >> Did anything happen in front of the kids? >> In front of Lily, the 2-year-old. >> Okay. It had to happen. Do you have any friends or family nearby? >> My best friend is asleep right now. >> Gotcha. >> She's got insomnia, so she's sleeping before work tonight. Is this a friend right here or Hi. >> She's like down the street. Yeah. >> Can she sit with the kiddos while we talk a little bit longer? >> Yeah. >> Would you mind sitting with the kiddos for me? They know you pretty well. >> It's okay. >> Oh, her husband called you. What? What did her when what did her husband call you? >> Um, he actually texted me about 9 minutes to come get her. I was sleeping. >> I got up, saw the text, but he called me. >> Okay. I texted him. >> He said come get said come get her. >> He told me to get out. So, >> okay. Is he coming back? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. We're supposed to just have a chat with him. That's all. Okay. >> Yeah. Um I'm just going to walk here a little bit longer 101 and you're more than welcome to come out afterwards and comforter and all that stuff. Okay. >> Yeah. Cuz I told him to give me his phone so I could call somebody to come and get me and he said no, you're not using my phone. Even though >> that's when he threw you How many times him in the hallway? >> I a couple times and then he threw me against the >> couple times like him or pushed him. >> Yeah. Like I >> him in the face again. him in the face and the eyebrow twice and then he threw me against the wall >> and that's when he left. Correct. Is there is there you guys kind of here? >> We were. Yeah. >> Yeah, you were. We're in the house right now. >> I don't want to lose my kids. >> No, I just I just want I just recently doctor saw a pipe in the bathroom. That's all. >> It would have been a dab tool that he saw with the dab dish. >> Oh, okay. >> You know, it's it's whatever >> there. I mean, there's there there's not anymore. But >> you have to use it all today. >> I I mean, I I smoked it all because I I smoke to help me with my mental issues. >> Smoke today? >> No, cuz I'm out. >> Okay. Did you today? >> No, not today. >> Okay. Did Did he use that? >> He uses Yeah. He continues to go to his buddies and get more. >> Did he Did he use today? >> I don't know if he used it today or not. >> But you haven't used it, right? >> I haven't. No. >> When was the last time he used yesterday. >> Is there a pipe in the house then? >> Yeah, I can go and get it for you guys if you want. >> Yeah, I can walk with you. >> You know what? >> No, no one said just be strong for them in front of you. Okay. I just want to get out of the house. Okay. >> Thank you. Thank you so much. Here. How about getting some some help with it? >> I'm trying. >> Okay. Is this your Is this your pipe or is it his? >> No, it's his. >> Here. And then where's your dad pen at? >> You want to put that in there? Mom's okay. Mom's okay. Right. We're just talking. Are all three kids your guys'es? And you've been married for how long? >> 2 years. Two years. >> Two years. We've been together for eight. >> Police spoke with the father to verify the situation. Observations of the scene revealed a more complex picture than the initial report suggested. >> How you doing, sir? >> I'm all right. Am I good? >> Yeah. >> Were you drinking with her at all today? >> Earlier. >> While you're talking to him, I'm going to take some pictures of you. Okay. Is that from from her? >> All right, man. I'm going to take some pictures of you if you don't mind. Okay. You have any marks on you I need to take pictures of? >> I don't know. >> Okay. I'm going to get your face real quick. And these pictures are not like put on anything. Okay. Okay. Let me see your arm here. All right. You can hang back out. I'm going to take a picture of your phone real quick. When did he break your phone? >> He took it and bent it in half. >> Like what part of the whole whole issue? >> I couldn't even tell you. >> Was in the very beginning or the middle? The end? >> It was in the middle. >> Middle. What was it before you got thrown into the water after? >> It was uh before cuz that was part of the reason why I came at him by the washer dryer was because I didn't have a phone call. >> I know off I haven't spoke to officer about everything yet that you told him, but I just have some questions that I came across about that pipe in there, man. Is it yours? >> Yep. >> Do you use every every so often? Yeah. >> Did you use today? >> No, not today. But I mean, it's in my system. >> It's in your system. When was the last time you used it? Just be honest with me, man. >> Day before yesterday, man. >> You sure it wasn't today at all? No, I haven't done it today. You >> use any other dab pinner or other day? >> Uh, no. That's going to be the least thing that's in my system. >> What's What else is in your system? >> Just Well, that that saying uh I don't smoke too much. >> Do you take anything else besides >> just alcohol? >> Alcohol. But you say you drink earlier in a day and a >> little bit. >> A little bit. So, you have your system you think you still you still feeling the effects of it or you've been up for a couple days? >> No, I'm just shaking up from what's happened today. >> Gotcha. But you're not feeling like you've been up for a couple days or anything? I'm fine. You have in the house? No, I don't believe so. >> You don't believe so? >> The pipe. >> How often do you use? >> Maybe every 4 months. I have a little relapse. >> Do you use while the kids are in the house? >> No. >> Where do you use your at? >> My garage. >> Does your in the garage? >> No. You can go. >> So you don't have So you don't have any So I have a I haven't looked into a little felt eyeglass case. >> Yeah. >> The pipes in there would have to be in there. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> I'll check it. >> I can't right now. >> Are you in handcuffs right now? >> No. >> Okay. We're talking. Okay. >> Yeah. >> We're talking. See anybody in handcuffs? No, but understand >> happens is when people start fighting, right? Get called, right? We have to use their means besides our our hands to to do these things, right? Do you need medical tens or anything? >> No, I'm fine. >> Is it in the bag or something? >> In the bag? Oh, yeah. >> I'm going to talk to my partner real quick. Okay. >> Okay. >> Go right ahead, man. Is it over there by your car or you have it on you? >> Go ahead and smoke it, man. All right. So, so here's the problem, right? We got we got a fight going on, right? >> Yeah. >> We got in a house, people drunk, people using dope, right? Bad, man. >> I'm fat for the kiddos. >> Acknowledging fault does not erase the impact. When children witness adults arguing or struggling, their sense of emotional security can be shaken. Both adults bear responsibility for the environment they create. >> You're highly intoxicated. Okay. I don't think you're in the right state to watch children right now. Okay. >> I just need to go to sleep. >> Yeah. Can your friend here, is she able to watch your kids? >> She's really not. Like, if you guys just let me go back inside and go to sleep, I'll be okay. >> Can you answer that question for me? >> She can't. She has to work tonight. >> Okay. Is there somebody that can watch your kids? >> No, unless it's Toby. >> Is there no one else? >> No. Like, I can just go to bed and I'll be >> Well, I'll be honest with you. That's probably not what's going to happen today. Okay. But I'm trying to find a solution for your children. Okay. Can you help me find a solution for your children? >> My kids need either their mom or their dad. >> Well, your dad is also a drug user, too. So, I don't feel very comfortable leaving him with them as well. Okay. >> Are we losing our kids? >> No, I'm not DHS. I don't take kids away. >> Are you going to report it to them? >> Yes, I will report today to the to them. That's my job. But can you help me out with that with that? Anybody else? >> Did you hear me? >> I don't have anybody else here. >> When When did she work? >> You'll have to talk to her because I don't know if she called any >> How close are you here to the family? >> Um, I'm her. Are you able to watch the children for at least tonight? >> I can try to. Yeah, I believe Toby's on his way back. >> Toby? >> Yeah, >> Toby's here. But >> Toby might not be able to watch the kids either. So, >> get a chance. And I'm not forcing you to. It's not me telling you how to. It's It's a sincere question. >> I will. Hands down. I will. >> And mom, you're okay with that? Okay. >> Don't be brought back into the house. >> You grab her shoes, too. >> He brought it back. I'm gonna lose my kids. >> Hey, it's not yours. >> I'm going to lose my kids. >> I took it to my sister. I'm going to lose my kids. >> Let's go. Put your shoes on. We're going to walk down in the car. I do appreciate it, man. Unfortunately, the circumstances what happened today. Okay. There's a lot of things going on. All right. Put your hands behind your back for me. Nothing on you. It's illegal or anything. seat in the car. >> All right, man. So, this is going to happen. So, it's like you're going to go to jail for a Okay. So, it's domestic. You have no say so. >> So, you're going to be placed on arrest today >> for the Okay. And some other charges. Okay. So, >> yeah, I'll explain to you put your hands behind your back for me, please. And then I don't warn you. >> Nothing else on you, correct? >> Uh cigarettes or anything like that. You go to jail with this. Okay. >> Hey, so you're being charged today with ser domestic. You guys are married and the hurt. Okay. >> Is he pressing charges? >> No, he it doesn't matter. The state says I must. It's a mand it's a mandated arrest. Okay. Second thing, you're also being charged of child because you guys fought in front of the kids like that. Your 2-year-old like that. Okay. >> Am I losing my case? >> I'm not DHS. I don't make that decision. Because you guys fought in front of the kids, you're also being child and charges placed on you guys. Okay. >> The mother was charged with domestic violence injuring a dependent and possession ofia. Under Ohio law, she could face up to four years and 7 months in prison and a $15,000 fine. While the conflict started with the adults, the emotional effects on the children can last for years, shaping how they understand relationships, manage stress, and respond to challenges later in life. There are moments when a stroller doesn't carry hope, but carries a serious mistake. >> Well, I didn't tell you under arrest then. I was reading you your rights for detainment. But you are under arrest now for retail theft and also contributing to the delinquency of a minor. On May 29th, 2024, employees at a Walmart noticed a woman with two minors repeatedly placing items into a stroller, then covering them and leaving the checkout area. This prompted staff to call 911, setting off a chain of events showing how law, society, and family responsibilities intersect in a single moment of poor judgment. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> How's it going? >> No. >> Um, hello. Okay, look at that. Standing up. >> So, no ID. >> Okay. >> Neither neither my card. She has something on my phone, >> but it's not a total you have uh hang on. Let me give you a grand total. I got two receipts. 14870 combined. The stuff on the left. She said this is her sister. Don't know. There's no ID and she doesn't want to talk. And then this one here, she gave me the false information first, her name, but since told me the truth, her name is Madison. That stuff she concealed. So all together they concealed around the baby in the stroller and pushed it out the GM door. >> Nice. >> Yeah. >> How old are you? >> 14. Gotcha. You ever been to jail for? >> Okay. You might be going today. >> Who do you know that can come pick up your child? Start making some calls. Both have the right to remain silent. Anything you say or do can't be used against you in court. You have the right to consult with and have present attorney before, during, and after questioning. If you decide to speak with me about the accident, you can stop at any time. Do you understand your rights? >> Okay. >> So, which stuff did you conceal? >> Um, I just >> No, ma'am. >> Not all of that. No. >> All right. So, this stuff here, >> what's what's Walmart's policy on juveniles >> for her? We won't be prosecuting. >> You won't? >> No. >> I do need >> All right. You want to prosecute on the >> I'm sorry. >> You want to prosecute on the adult, right? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> You ever been to jail before? >> No. >> All right. What's your first name? Why? Why'd y'all take the items? I mean, what was the >> I'd rather just >> Okay. All right. Well, I'll tell you right now. You're under arrest. Okay. Um you're you're going to be >> Yeah. Well, I didn't tell you you're under arrest then. I was renewing your rights for detainment, but you are under arrest now for retail theft and also contributing to the delinquency of a minor. You worked in um conjunction and allowed a minor who was in your custody to commit a crime. That in itself is a crime. So, you're going to have two charges. This is also going to be forwarded to the Department of Children and Family since you had a toddler with you. Okay. So, the Department of Child toddler >> That looks like a toddler to me. >> It's not a toddler. >> Okay. Well, you can argue with me all you want. I'm telling you what what you're in charge with. You're going to be booked into the county jail. DCF is going to be notified um for your basically poor parenting today. >> Just go get I I have to be with you at all times right now OR ONE OF US. SO, PAM, if you want to escort her to the the bathroom and whatever. It's nothing. I have to go in my car and get >> We just got We have to No, you can't leave this area right now. We have to wait until somebody else >> and I need to I really do need to All my stuff is in the car. If you can just sitting right >> for the child. Put your hands in front of you. >> Unbelievable. Let's go. Bad move today. Bad bad moves. >> Where's your car at? >> I parked over here. >> Oh, get to find it now. Let's go. What's that other girl's relation to you? >> She's um my neighbor. your neighbor. >> I swear my neighbor. >> It's a um >> ma'am, I'm not looking for your car for you. >> Someone going to pick up your car? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Could you just so I can grab the bag or you want to grab it? >> I'll grab it. This one right here. >> Can I also grab my tampons? Yeah. >> Okay. Where are those at? >> They're back here. >> Mhm. Put those in there. >> Well, you Yeah, whatever you want to do. >> That's your baby, right? >> Yeah. >> Sorry. >> No, misdemeanor. >> The total value of the items was around $150. Not a large amount, but involving children in the situation made it a serious and educationally significant incident. >> I'm going to have the uh >> loss prevention girl go with you. Okay. >> Pam, would you escort her to the bathroom and just kind of so she can change the child and do what she needs to do? I'm going to explain to her the the policy with Walmart and everything like that. All right. >> And how old was she? 14. >> 14. >> All right. Listen to me very carefully and very carefully. Okay. Have you ever been in trouble with the law? >> It was. >> Okay. What happened? Just curious. >> Um, well, it wasn't like this. It was just like at the house like there was a lady that I was >> Okay. Did you get arrested or anything like that? >> Oh, no. >> Okay. Well, listen. Um, when you steal from a business, it's retail theft. You obviously knew what you were doing was wrong. Okay. You can go to jail for that because of Walmart's policy. Their policy is to not prosecute juveniles because we were all young and dumb ones. We've all made mistakes. We've all done stupid stuff. All right? So, you're not going to be charged criminally today. All right. What I will tell you is hanging out with people like that is going to your life up. And and >> yeah, I get it. And and maybe she's a good person at heart. So, I'm I'm not I'm not saying that she's a bad criminal person. But from my perspective, she's rolling around in a store with two juveniles, a toddler, and and you you're almost an adult, but not quite a couple more years. And whatever you guys do, who's responsible for that? She is, cuz she's an adult. Okay? So, yes, you did wrong, but also it's on an adults on it's an adult's responsibility to make sure that you do right. So, you're not going to jail and you're not going to be criminally charged. Don't thank me for that. Thank Walmart. Okay? because my job is to prosecute people who um that well it's also to prosecute you prosecute juveniles but only when the party that's the party which would be Walmart in this case wants something to be done. So if Walmart said we want to prosecute the juvenile I'd be prosecuting or I'd be writing a report on it and you know giving you a court date and that sort of thing. For her case um she stole quite a bit of money um or of items that are worth quite a bit of money 150 bucks. Um, an aggravating factor is that you're a juvenile and the little one's a juvenile and in her presence or parenting. Maybe you have kids someday. Don't make those same decisions. >> I'm not actually. >> So, you know, but what you do now can have a drastic impact on your life. >> Like whenever that lady walked out, it's like whenever walking out the store, I just had feelings that lady, she was like holding something just looking at Madison and I was like I was thinking about saying something and the lady had walked up to Madison. >> Yeah. So, you're you're you're getting off pretty easily here, okay? But, you know, just because you're not an adult doesn't mean you can't be held accountable. You still can go to jail. You still can be arrested. Okay? You got it. I don't want to preach at you. I'm not your parent, but you you don't want to go down this path. Okay? But, still stay here until we get an adult to come pick youall up. >> Did you hear my question before? Have you ever done something like this before? Or >> if you say yes, I'm not charging with it. I'm just curious. Um, well, it was kind of like a weird situation. I mean, >> it was like a few years ago with my sister. >> Okay. >> We were at Sally >> stole some makeup or something like that. >> Um, no, it was my sister. It was like some hair or whatever. >> Okay. >> And yeah, they just had her pay like the $70. It wasn't stuff. It was just like the bill like she was. >> Gotcha. The grandmother quickly arrived to pick up the children and expressed her concern about her daughter's actions. >> You have your ID, ma'am, >> yes, please. >> This your daughter? >> Yes, unfortunately. >> So, who's crazy? Well, that's right. Defense is here. >> Well, they do what they do, don't they? You've got a child, a six-month old baby, and you're here with her shot lift skin. >> Thank you very much. The aggravating factor in this scenario is you have two juveniles that you're responsible for here. >> I have said you have nothing to do with her. How many times have I said stay away? >> What was she stealing? And and this No, that's okay. And this business of oh, they shouldn't be arresting me or whatever. Committed a crime. So, we make an arrest based on our judgment of the facts and circumstances, not whether >> oh, we're making we're making an ideal of this or that. >> Is this what you're stealing? >> Yes. >> Why? Cuz you're stealing toiletries. >> You don't need stuff, Madison. You've asked for enough money to buy stuff. You don't need to steal the [ __ ] No. Where'd you get all them from? >> You brought these that you don't need and you steal toiletries that you do need. No sense, is there? >> Is is the actual country you're born in United Kingdom or Wales or >> England? England. >> Yeah. >> I always get confused what's considered UK and >> Yeah. I'm not Irish. >> Yeah. Okay. Right. That's Northern Ireland, right? >> Yeah. How's he been? >> So, you go to jail tonight? >> Oh, yeah. You'll be out tomorrow morning. >> I'll be out tomorrow morning. >> Yeah. I don't think you're going to have a bond because of the delinquency of a minor thing. So, not tonight you won't have a bond, but tomorrow you It's not going to be a lot. Probably going to be 10 5 10,000. So, 10% of that is what would get you out $500,000, something like that. Okay. What happens if we don't have the bottom? She gets she has >> she just stays until her trial. >> Okay. What do you want to do? >> I don't know. But I didn't know yet. >> After the father of one of the teens arrived, police explained the store's policies and clarified the potential consequences of such behavior. >> Hey, how you doing, huh? >> You got your ID? >> No, I don't, man. I jumped in the car. >> That's all right. I got the my ID has the star on it. >> That's fine. What's your last name? All right. So, your daughter told you what's going on, right? >> Sir, >> your daughter told you what was going on. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Well, she's not being charged not going to jail. Uh, don't thank me for that. Thank Walmart. They have a policy where they'll prosecute juveniles. >> 14. >> Yeah. >> That That's the 14. Is the policy cut off? >> No, but I'm I'll tell you later. >> Okay. Okay. >> Not that. >> But I will tell you this. If she she'll her information will be in our system. If she gets caught doing it again at any other Walmart, she will be charged. >> You're dead. >> Okay. Even if you're 14. >> No, no, you're all set to go. >> Um, do you have any questions for me? Basically, she she took some stuff. She's um a juvenile. Walmart elects not to prosecute, so she's getting all scott free. She's still being listed as part of the report. They should They probably should stay away from each other. >> All right. Thank you, sir. I appreciate it. >> You, too, man. Yeah. Yeah. >> Could you not being handcuffed? >> Yeah, that's fine. >> It's just they're really uncomfortable. >> Well, listen, ma'am. Getting arrested is uncomfortable. >> I know. >> And you seem But listen to me. You seem to have this attitude of like, "Oh, well, I did wrong, but you know, everything will bend and flex for me." And that's not how it goes. You're in the custody of the state now for the county. I apologize to what's happened. >> Everybody, everybody makes mistakes. Everybody gets in trouble at some point in their life. You know what I mean? But this business is with the juveniles being present is unacceptable. >> All right. All right. Let's go. >> I'll get with you later. Yep. >> Yep. You got your phone with you? What else you got with you? >> Yes. And my phone. >> Yep. Yep. Yep. That's fine. We're going to go this way to my car. Okay. >> Can I get some of my clothes out of my car real quick? You need to what? >> Get some of my clothes out of the car. >> What do you need? Your clothes. >> You don't need anything. They will not let you take anything in. >> Okay. >> You're going to jail. You're not You're not going on to the holiday. >> I know. >> You're going to be in a jail cell. Not Not in a hotel room. All right. Let's go to the white car over there. Thank you, ma'am. Not trying to be harsh, but it is what it is. >> Got to learn someday. Let's go. >> You can hold your stuff. Yeah, all right. Do you have anything on you that's illegal? Neth, needles, drugs, anything like that? Okay. When we get there, >> my tampons in there. >> Okay. When we get there, they're going to have you relinquish all that kind of stuff. The nose ring will probably have to come out. >> I can't take that out. It's hard to tear. >> Yeah. Yeah. But they may make you take it out. I don't know. But I'm just giving you fair warning. The bracelets, the rings, all that's going to have to come off, but don't worry about it here. Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. Thank you. You're You're going to get through this. This isn't the worst thing. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No. No one's No one's saying you're a bad person, but you do have to make better decision. I will tell you uh ma'am it you know >> you messed up but two two out of three pe two out of three people get arrested or criminally charged before they turn 22 it happens it's not the end of the world you didn't somebody you know so everything going to work out for it I think >> you can keep it on if you need to get numbers out of >> you can keep it on if you need to get numbers out of it you did you use any drugs today >> no sir >> any alcohol >> no but I do >> okay that's fine I'm >> No, no, we're not. I'm I'm just, you know, do any bumps of before you walked into Walmart? No. >> Okay. Have you ever been arrested before? >> No. >> Okay. >> This is to be honest the first time ever. >> Okay. >> The mother was charged with retail theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor and was booked into Sani County Jail. Under Florida law, she could face two months in prison and a $2,000 fine. More importantly, the incident highlights how every adult decision profoundly affects how children learn about right and wrong and shapes their values and behavior for the future. Also in Florida, an 11-year-old child called 911 to report a tragedy happening in their own home. >> Was there a domestic battery that occurred here? >> No. >> On April 16th, 2023, Clearwater police received a call from an 11-year-old boy reporting that his stepfather John was accusing his mother. Officers rushed to the scene on suspicion of serious domestic, but at the scene, the mother showed strange, inexplicable behavior. >> 10:12, I got autous. >> Who are you? >> Chris's wife, >> John. >> Where's John? >> Over here. >> Right now. Right now they're not allowed. >> Yes, I got a >> Okaybody. >> That's what we got to call. Who is he? >> So he's over here. >> No, he's only he's only making up stories. >> Right. So he's making up he's calling 911 and he's telling 911 operators that you're being myself. So I have to punch him and then >> Why did I get hit in my face? No, like push me to you. >> Talk to the deputy. >> No, no, no. Go ahead. Go ahead. >> Well, he's going to talk to him and I'm going to talk to you cuz I want to know what's going on here. >> I have to say something. That's his son and I don't feel comfortable with his. >> You can step. >> All right. >> So, what's going on here? >> My husband suffer from bad depressions. >> Well, he's saying that you're severely hurt and in need of police assistance to come immediately. No, your child on 911. >> I tried to get the phone and he keeps running away. >> Was there a domestic battery that occurred to yours? >> No. >> Okay. >> My husband suffers from from bad uh depressions and everything is kept domestic. We have good doctors and this is very >> Give me one second sir. Just one second. >> But he has not done anything. It's not not >> Did he hit me? >> He hit me. >> He were just stay with her real quick. >> Yes. >> John, you haven't done anything wrong. >> Yes, he has. >> No, he has done. >> Then when the police requested ID, she completely lost control. >> He's also taking far you can know just get you know how much money is involved in getting all the >> Hey, what was your name ma'am again? I'm sorry. Where's your name? Ma'am. No, I'm with my son. Don't touch me. Don't touch me. You're fine. I need you. >> Don't touch me. Mommy, father, I need you with me. No, >> he's fine. He's standing right here. Relax. My son, >> listen. Come here. He's fine. >> No, I need my son with me. >> I promise you. >> Don't touch me. Paris, please. Relax. My son is only 11. I am not doing anything. I just WANT MY SON. PARIS, LEAVE. >> He's right here. >> Paris, come with me. Don't touch me. No. No, my son. I said my son. >> Nobody said you do. You want to talk something? Come with me. Paris, come with me. HE'S ONLY 11. DON'T TOUCH HIM. Don't touch him. Don't touch him. I WANT MY STOP. TOUCH ME. I want you. STOP WITH ME. I DON'T TOUCH ME. DON'T TOUCH ME. I have a problem. I have relax. Please don't touch me. relax. He's just talking to his son right here. >> I don't want to please. I just want my SON. MY SON, I WANT MY SON >> right now. Right now, I could put your hand if I put you in handcuff and put you back in my car. You're not going to deal with your son, so calm your down, >> please. I want my 11year-old. >> I'm afraid. >> Listen, I'm going to put you in handcuffs in 2 seconds, okay? Because you just hit my my taser. You understand? >> Okay? So, think about it. Let us But you need to calm down. Calm down. My dog. >> Calm down. He's right here. >> No. F. Please be with me. Please. I'm sorry. Okay. Sit down. I'm sorry. Sit down. No. Just sit down and look at him. Look. Just sit down, guys. I just want to be with my son. Sit down and look at him. >> Can you please be with me? I just don't want I JUST WANT MY SON with me. Can you please come with me? Come here. I want him with me. >> Come with me. Come with me. >> Your son is fine. Listen to Listen to him. Listen to him. >> Listen to him. Let him talk. Listen. Listen. Just listen to him. >> I gave birth to I gave birth to him. WE CAN TALK. WE CAN TALK. Come here. >> No. He needs to talk to Milan and he'll talk to me. You got to calm down. >> Can you please come close to me? >> No. I need you. I need you close to me. The tension was palpable as the mother kept repeating, "My son while the officers patiently reassured her, "Take a deep breath." >> Please, don't get mad at me. Just take a deep breath. >> Take a deep breath like your son says. >> Come with me. >> Breathe in. Listen to him. He's saying some reasonable stuff right now. Take a deep breath. Listen to your son. Take a deep breath. >> I am. But can you please come next to me first? Your father. You remember your father. >> He knows. He knows. Don't Don't throw that in his face. I am the only person you have left in this country. Come here now. Fis, call your supervisor. I need you to call your supervisor because my only right as a mother is to be next to my son right now. >> Did you just hit me? Did you just hit me? It's on video. Did you me? It's on video. You just me and it's a filament. You understand what I'm telling you? I won't call him, but you could be back in my car and going to jail and we're going to call DCF for your son. Is that what you want? >> No. >> Okay. So, listen to me. Shut up and stop it or we'll be calling DCF because there's no You're the mother. You're the mother. There's nobody else to take care of your son. But if you're in jail, who's going to take care of him? That's why you're not in handcuffs right now. Do you understand? >> You have to be next to me. >> I hear you. >> What we're doing is we're doing an investigation. So, at this time, no one's going to be near each other because we need to do our investigation. Your child called 911 SCREAMING AND YELLING. >> LISTEN. LISTEN. Your child called 911 screaming and yelling that you were severely. Okay. So, we're going to we're I know you have no marks. So, there wasn't a domestic battery that happened here. We have to investigate it properly. That means I need to separate everybody. But after persistent efforts, they managed to calm her outburst and regain her cooperation. >> Don't you me? >> It's not a You want to go to jail? I will call DF and D. Pick your son up and I'll take you to jail for finally right now. You understand? >> Yes. Me? Yeah. It's on my video camera right now. So you want to play You want to play Do you want to play that game? >> Ma'am, >> do you want to play that game right now? >> Play that game with me. >> You need to relax. >> You will go to jail. And then who's going to take care of your son? You his father's like you just said, remember? And you >> playing that card with me? I want to be next >> because I told you to relax so this definitely can speak to your son so we can figure out what happened >> because you were so rude. >> How much have you had? Okay. How much have you had to drink today? >> None. >> None. Nothing to drink. >> Well, I actually did. I actually did. >> You had a couple drinks. One drink. >> I have a couple drinks, but it's not a felony. It's not >> No, it's not a felony, ma'am. I didn't stay in here. >> It's just a simple question. Did you have something to drink? >> First of all, I appreciate so much your dog because you're a very respectful man. >> No, I'm not. You ask my chief, he'll tell you that I'm a very disrespectful freaking human being. But I'm being nice because I'm trying to figure this out. But I asked you a simple question that I have the right to ask you. >> But I can't hear myself. >> Yeah. You know why he's crying? Cuz he You need to actually probably get that kid in therapy cuz he is calling 911. I mean, technically by law, I can charge him with a crime. We're going to avoid that. >> I think he's to appointed our family where something like that has to come down. >> What you need to do is you need to get control of your child. You need to get him into >> therapy. My child is in therapy. >> Is he now? Is he now? Okay. Then you probably might want to call the therapist in the morning and tell him that what he did today. >> You know what? He did something wrong is the guy that is a master control minder. And then it only takes 5 minutes for a person that smart to change your mind. And that's >> I can tell you this. I can tell you this. >> Turns around. >> He didn't change He didn't change my mind. You know how I changed my mind? The call came out that you were beaten up and you needed assistance and there is not a mark on you. That's what changed my mind. He didn't say nothing. He admitted that you two were I'm talking. He admitted that you two had a verbal argument. That child got in the middle of it. That child don't need to get in the middle of it. Okay? So you there's a control issue here. And it's not just him. That child needs to learn who the adults are and who's in charge and that he's a child because now this isn't the first time I heard we've been called out by that child. >> You're right. He all the Yes. >> Yes. And all the employees said the same thing. Nobody got beat up. >> Did you check his card? >> I didn't look at his I didn't look at his card. It's that wasn't the accusation. The problem is right now is we need to figure out what you're going to do with him. It doesn't escalate more tonight. If I was you, I would give him a good scare. >> He doesn't seem to be scared of us. >> If I was you, I will give him a good scare. >> What do you plan on doing tonight? Because I I think the best bet is you probably shouldn't go home with your husband. You have a place you can go. >> I wasn't planning on going home because we had a retirement party for the working here for 25 years. Then I was planning to stay sleep here because we have a roof in the back. >> Let me go talk to Johnny real quick. >> Given the complex situation, the police had to contact the father and discuss separating the two that night. Hey, Johnny. The um so she's saying that you guys have a room here or something like that. She's saying that she's going to stay here the night. What do you plan on doing? >> I don't want to stay here because they alone. >> Yeah, I I get that. But I mean, is there Cuz I I really think the best bet is neither one of you being together tonight just because the kids so wound up, you know? I don't want But I can't make you I can't force you to do anything. >> No, I know. I'll make >> I don't want to make you go someplace. >> I'll make the right When this happened at the uh >> Thank you. >> Yeah. When when this happened, you know, a couple months ago, the contract, they came, they knew right away. She was messed up. I knew nothing. And the police clear, they didn't know what to do because they know they knew like I didn't know anymore, but I just said, "Listen." And I told them about the room. I said, "I'll just leave." And they said, "Well, thank you." So, I came here. I got a room and I left them at, you know, the condo. >> The condo. >> Going to mitigate. I'm not going to, you know. >> No, no. I don't think you're going to do anything, but I'm just I want to avoid any escalation because she seems to still be wound up. He's still I mean, the deputy is still trying to get the kid to calm down. >> I don't know. the kids are special. Uh >> yeah, my partic my partner uh my partner was one of the officers that was at the condo issue. So he advised me on the way here. So I I kind of had an idea of what was going on. Uh and he warned me about the kid. >> He's willing to take her home cuz he doesn't want to stay here all the alcohol. >> Are you willing to take an Uber back to your condo? >> Uh an Uber. I guess John doesn't want us to stay here. >> He'd rather stay here. >> He'd rather stay here. Oh, well that's fine. Can I have my son at any point? >> Yeah, once I have a talk to him. I don't think >> I'll figure that out and then have us get our together so we can get over, I guess. FBI. >> But one witness hadn't shown the 11year-old boy and he seemed to reveal a secret that made everyone shiver. >> Thank you for doing that. Listen, young man. What's your issue? >> Well, I I already Can you maybe tell him? What I have so far is they got into an argument about him having a girlfriend. He pushed her which made her bump into him and then he got around in front and then he pushed him mom was holding a ladder. He when he pushed him back into his mom said she said >> yeah. >> But >> is it Did I get all that right? >> But the step push >> right. You said he pushed your mom first and then he pushed you. Is that right? Police is dark. >> Is that right, Ferris? >> All right. What you told the 911 dispatcher was that your mom was severely and that police needed to come immediately. >> But I just need you guys to come before it escalates. >> Okay. But see, here's the thing. When you say things, certain words, it makes police officers respond a certain way. And that puts my life in danger. It puts my partner's life, this deputy's life, and then the people around us. On top of I don't know if you knew it, but it was raining so hard that I couldn't even see where I was going with my windshield wipers on. And I'm trying to get here because I think your mom about to end up in a in a hospital. And I get here, she's got no mark on her. She's walking around. >> Can I see her, please? Can I just see her, please? Like, you guys could be right next to >> Okay. Well, this is how we have to do this is how I do my job. This is how we do it. Your mom's fine. >> This is what I explained to you first. We got to talk to everybody separately. >> Yeah. So, what we're going to do is you and mom are going to go back to the condo. And I think you guys are going to take an Uber back to the condo. >> No, we have a car. Well, she's not capable of driving right now cuz she's been drinking. >> Well, can you guys maybe drive us because I don't feel comfortable. Me and her don't feel comfortable in an Uber. >> We can't transport you guys in our car. That's why we're going to put you in an Uber. A taxi. >> Ubers are pretty safe. You'll be okay. >> Like in a safe Uber. >> We would not suggest it if we didn't think it was safe. Okay. >> Yeah. Like if we lived in this city, maybe I might not suggest it. But we use we use Uber and Lift all the time. >> I use it also. Yep. Yes, I do, too. This is how we avoid getting DUIs on ourselves. >> With three conflicting statements and a stubborn, uncooperative mother, the police's patience ran out. Their tone grew sharp. And at that moment, she caused a scene, insisting, "Call 911" while standing here with four police officers. >> All right. So, I'm going to I'm going to go talk to your mom one more time, and then I'll let you go see your mom. Okay. Thanks for helping us, >> Mommy. I got to talk to you one more time, Mommy. Because you're a liar. >> Why is he lying? Why don't you guys arrest me? >> Said I'm lying because I said she hat >> because she said that I him. Okay. So, arrest me. No, I'm not. >> Is that you guys are going to go home? Are we going to stay here like a family? Just a little bit of >> You can't act like a family. >> We want We want you guys to be separated for the night. >> Goodbye. Get out of my business. >> That's not how it works, man. >> Oh, how does it work? >> 911 was called. So, I'm not leaving until I'm done with my investigation. >> What's your investigation? >> I was investigating a domestic battery. >> Okay. So, who who? Well, your child's saying some things. You're denying. He's denying. So, I mean, >> okay. So, who's >> But I'm trying to tell you what the outcome is going to be. >> What's going to be? >> I've been really polite. Do not turn my [ __ ] switch on. Okay. >> Do it because I'm ready to go to jail. And I'm ready to go to jail now. >> If you go to jail, that child listen. >> That child's going to end up in in a home. >> You know what? This is what's going to be because apparently I am the bad guy. >> I didn't say you were the bad guy. I'm trying to get you home safely. That's what I'm trying to do. >> Oh, no. No. You know what this If you see the last time we called the cops and you see today, something is gonna happen. So to >> That's why I'm trying to get you home with your child >> while Johnny stays here. >> Ah, and that's going to change everything. What if you take Johnny? >> Why? Why this pattern keeps happening? Then would you just separate us? What about Johnny take a little medicine? What if he takes a little taste of his own medicine? No. No. for right because nothing has happened and then you take me home and then this [ __ ] keeps happen next 3 months I'm going to be alive >> then get a divorce okay you switched IT GET A GODDAMN DIVORCE I KNOW I'M GOING TO go in I'm going to end up in I probably going to lose my job but you're being un HELPFUL I'M TRYING TO GET YOU HOME IN AN UBER with your child SO WE CAN AVOID HAVING TO COME BACK OUT HERE SMILE LAUGH YOU MADE ME angry I'm going to get in trouble I don't care >> I'm sorry I don't mean to be DISRESPECTFUL YOU'RE DISRESPECTFUL. NOW I KNOW WHY YOUR CHILD'S THE WAY HE IS. I'M TRYING TO HELP YOU AND ALL YOU GIVE A [ __ ] is you're [ __ ] on me. >> I'm so sorry. >> You're unbelievable. >> You're right. You're right. I'm so sorry. >> This is what YOU DO WHEN PEOPLE TRY TO HELP YOU. I SHOULDN'T LET OFFICER GREEN FREAKING ARREST you for a felony. >> I told you to do it. >> We're trying to help you, though. But you don't care, do you? YOU'RE SO WOUND UP RIGHT NOW THAT YOU WON'T LISTEN TO people with good judgment. So, I'm going to ask you again. >> Cuz I'm going to determine something real quick. How much alcohol did you put down your throat today? How much alcohol have you drank? >> Don't touch me, please. I just want to see myself. >> I'm talking to you. I'm talking to you. I didn't tell you you could leave yet. >> Stay out of my way, please. >> How much alcohol have you had to drink today? >> Do I have to call 911 myself? >> You call 911, you're going to end up in jail. >> Don't touch me. Don't touch me. >> Stop. I'm not done talking. So, you're either going to go and get in an Uber and leave. >> I agree. >> So, get your phone, call an Uber. >> I don't even have my phone. >> Where is your phone? >> Yeah, I just want my phone. >> Is that your phone? >> Where's your phone? >> No. Can I please have my phone? Oh my god. What the hell is going on? >> What the hell is going on right now? >> Oh my god. Can you guys You guys are my son. >> To stop her from causing more chaos, the police had to make their most serious decision. >> Where are you? >> The deputy. >> I need my son with me right now. He's not allowed to be. >> He's with the sheriff's deputy. >> Not see him. >> You need to relax. >> Please stop. >> You need to relax. What are you doing? Have you >> What are you doing? >> Just call 911. >> And you are not allowing me? >> You're standing here with four police officers. Why are you calling 911? >> 422. >> 422. >> If you get a 911 hang up from the restaurant, you can disregard. >> No. What you want? Try to call 911. >> Did they tell us? >> They No, I watched her do it. >> Where the desk? >> Oh, was that the camera? >> I got the foot on. You're on camera. >> Turn around. >> I don't know what happened. What did you >> I haven't done anything, Jimmy. I don't want anything to touch him. Genie, please. But I haven't done anything. >> You dialed 911. I told you not to. That's misuse of 911. >> Oh my god, John. Why did you >> I gave you a million freaking opportunities, lady. >> I just need my son. I just >> Crystal, this is all you. >> My son, too. >> And does she got shoes or anything? Does she got shoes? >> She don't know how to. >> Let's face it, you cannot blame this on me. I've been trying to diffuse this. >> John, do you know if she got shoes? >> Wow. 119. I got 1105. >> Can you please slow down? >> Nope. >> Yeah, right over there. I'm just trying to avoid. We're given every opportunity, you know, and then you dial 911 in front of me. Told you not to. Have a seat. >> John, don't let him do it. COME ON, JOHN. I AM THE REASON FOR RELAX OR YOU'RE GOING TO GET >> JOHN. PLEASE, JOHN. Please help me. John, >> banging her head on the the window. >> Then she bangs her head. Leave her back. >> The original 911 call aimed to protect the mother from domestic. But due to her non-ooperation, she was arrested on charges of using a wireless 911 system and battery on a law enforcement officer. It's not just self-destructive, but a ticket that puts your children and innocent others on the edge of death. A common thread in all these stories. Adults have reasons, but children have no choice. They don't choose to sit in unsafe cars, witness conflicts, or get caught up in adults mistakes. The law doesn't judge intentions. It sets clear boundaries to ensure children's safety.
