[screaming] >> That car. >> Not the guy. Supposedly, there was a guy with them that disappeared. The two kids were in the car and mom got the kids out. >> Only when confronted [music] with choices and outcomes did they begin to show awareness. >> You can't separate a child from his mother. That's a little >> I don't want to go to jail if I can. Please don't arrest me cuz I'm far from my house. >> Together, they illustrate a scenario where law, conscience, and responsibility meet. Now, she's refusing to give her stuff back for school cuz I'm taking my child back to Pennsylvania with >> Who does she live with? >> Me. >> And what is it like a like a custody? Do you have custody paperwork or anything or just an agreement between you two? It was an agreement, but she never finalized it. So, it's not good with the court in Pennsylvania. It was a mediation. >> So, there's nothing to the court system that says who got test. Perfect. Even though I have the court order right here and I'm pulling it up. >> Hey, can you open up the thing so your little girl can get her jacket? >> I am right now. >> Get off your phone and do it. >> I'm doing it now. I have to shut my car off and I have to get my thing. And I'm doing it right now. Get open. >> Abby, I'm sorry. I didn't do this. You know this. >> Yeah. Officers quickly stopped the car and clarified the situation with the mother. Yeah, you got that and he knew that I could be almost >> get stopped by the police and like kind of stressful, right? >> Yeah. No, that's not it. >> And so if he's either sleeping or not and I'm not stressed then I don't really understand what's going on. So I'm not sure if I like I said maybe I wasn't here. >> Okay. I want to get >> I'm not I was very strict to me. So I keep treating you guys like people, but I've heard all sorts of weird stories in my life of times and trust people and then they just try and take advantage of that. And if you >> I'll have whatever conversation you need. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. Another family member, his father, your parent, anything that he could go with him is willing to come over here or we could find a way. >> I could probably call somebody. >> Okay. Do you know who that person is because there is no problem. This is this is how >> Okay. What What do you need me to do? prosecution. >> I will call either his aunt probably. >> Are they local? >> Yes. >> Okay. Where at? >> Uh or me. >> Or me. So, okay. So, they're pretty close. Well, >> can you please let me find it? >> We'll we'll get it and then we will let you make that phone call because again, we're here cuz we want him taken care of. We're not going to do if you understand that jeopardizes at all that taking a child away from his mother is not a for you. I 100%. >> Can you please just Can you tell me what this process is so that I understand >> you're going to jail? You should be able to bond out if you need to. If you have somebody they can bond you with. >> And how long does that take? >> That part is up to the jail and how busy they are. And in some cases, you may have to wait until first. >> Can I just look in your eyes, please? Please. I'm not sure what's going on, but everything's going to be okay. All right. Are you okay to go with with Aunt Lacy for a little bit? And then mama's going to be back very soon. Are you okay? Can you Can you be okay for me? You promise? >> The situation became more stressful as the mother realized that her actions could result in temporary separation from her child. >> What am I supposed to do? >> Do you have any formula or anything? >> No, I've never talked or anything. He's never been apart from me. >> All right, let's in what way? Can you just be a human being right now, please? >> I am definitely being a human being right now. >> Okay. >> Where is your phone? >> I have no idea. It was in the >> We have her phone number uh memorized. >> No, I do not. Can you just unhink me to get the phone, please? >> The address of where these people stay so we can send somebody there to ask. >> We're not going to uncuff you, but I would like you to tell me specifically. >> Stay with him until somebody comes. >> We're on the side of the road right now. We're going to not do that. >> You cannot separate us until he I know that he's safe in somebody else's hand. Please, can you do Can you promise me that? >> I'll promise you we're going to get to the bottom of this right now. You're going to go into a car and then I'm going to get your phone and bring it to you. >> Please don't do that. You cannot I cannot leave you alone with my child. >> What are you doing? >> What are you doing? I need to be able to call him. Come on. What? What is he doing with my son? What is he doing with my son? >> Ma'am, we're going to get your phone and you're going to call your >> Why can't I just stay there next to my son to comfort him? >> What happens? Okay. >> Why not? >> Because that's not how it works. >> Tell me how it works. Tell me how it works, please. >> All right. We're going to put you in the car. >> We're going to let you calm down and then we're going to explain it to you. >> Doesn't that sound? Stop trying to walk away. I'm just trying to get to my son. Do you have children? >> Yes, I do. >> And they would not be in a vehicle that looks like that. Do you have anything on you that will poke me, prick me, stick me, cut me? >> Do you have any or anything illegal? >> No. >> If we find it here, if you find it in the jail, it's more of a charge. You have absolutely nothing on you. >> All right. I'm going to touch it with the back of my hand. Look, ma'am. Look like this. >> What are you doing? >> Making sure you have nothing on you. Just to the jail. It's a felony. Like my partner just has no weapons. Okay. No weapons. No drugs. >> I have a little sundress on. I mean, please. Are you taking my money? >> No, my money is going to go. >> Danny, are you okay? Can you please >> Can you please tell me what's going on? >> I'm going to go check on Sammy. Okay. >> Can you please make sure nobody's touching him or holding him? I need to put his diaper on him. >> Relax. We're going to get >> sneaking with a with a police officer that I don't know. >> He's fine. >> He's a parent, too. Okay. >> A lot of everyone is a parent. >> Just put back in her car. No money can go with him. >> Can you please just let me see him? You can keep me handcuffed. I just want to see that he's okay and tell somebody. >> We will bring him to you. >> He's coming with me. >> We will bring him so you can see him. >> All right. Have a seat back first. Watch your head. >> Okay. Watch your head. There you go. >> All the way in. >> Can you uncuff me? >> This is very uncomfortable. >> I know it's not supposed to be comfort. >> All right. Give us a minute. You >> want to hold me a light? >> Yeah. >> Try not to dive in. >> While officers reassured the child and arranged for a responsible caregiver, the mother became emotional, crying and expressing distress. Please help me. Please help see me. Please help me. Please help see me. Please, sir. Please, sir. Please, sir, talk to me. Please, sir. Can you talk to me? Can you talk to me? Please, can you just talk to me? I'm I'm feeling very, very sad right now. >> Just give us a second. Okay. >> Okay. Where's my son? You said you'd bring him over. >> He's in the truck right now. Just give us one second. We're trying to >> What are you doing to him? Why are you keeping me from being able to see what's happening? >> Just let me explain. What is your phone number? Cuz we're trying to find your Give me one second cuz we're trying to find your phone. >> Okay. Please, please, could someone come back soon? I really need somebody here with me. >> Your phone number car my car. He's diapered with clean. >> I'll grab him. Put the diaper on. >> If you don't mind that, I'm going to try to go >> take my vest off real quick. >> Mother Jesus, please help me. God, by the name of Jesus, please help save me. God, by the name of Jesus, please help me. God, by the name of Jesus, please help save me. God, in the name of Jesus, please help me. God, by the name of Jesus, please help save me. God, by the name of Jesus, please help me. God, in the name of Jesus, please help save me. God Jesus, please help me. God, the name of Jesus, please help done with the word. Jesus, please help me with the word. Jesus, please help see him. Hi. >> All right. We had a bunch of phone. I took a second. >> We were see Can you said you were bringing him over? >> You have to give me a second cuz we have to call your aunt. >> I just want I just want to see him that he's okay. Why are you keeping me from seeing him? >> I'm keeping you from him. What's the number? >> Can you just let me do it, please? >> How do I get to it? >> Okay. There's two people that I could call. So, please, >> whichever one you trust the most and whoever's closest. You said someone's in Orand. >> Someone's in Orman. But will I be able to stay in the vicinity until they come? >> I don't know. It depends on how long they're going to take. You're calling them? But am I Do I get to talk to them? >> Yeah. What's their name? >> Lacy. She's going to answer phone. If not, then we'll call someone else. Okay. Okay. Can we call a different number? They're not touching him, right? >> No, ma'am. >> Okay. You promised me >> your phone. >> Is he crying? >> No, he's just looking at me. Who is this? >> A family member. >> Where are they? Liz. >> Okay. She's calling someone else to >> Are you going to bring him over so I can just see him? >> Fellow person didn't call answer. >> Please leave your message. >> Can I? >> Yep. If not, can it be a friend or does it have >> the same whoever you trust? >> Uh, no, that's not the same number. Can you look up Christy B, please? Just >> Where does she live? >> Um, in Palm Coast, please. Christie, pick up the phone, please. >> Can we try her again? >> Okay. Okay. Call this T Ty cuz that's her close friend and he would know the address. Can you just tell me what he's doing or what's going on with him? >> And he's happy. He's okay. Did somebody put a diaper on him? But I didn't want somebody to touch this. >> We didn't touch it. Everything's on camera. Obviously, I'm going back to verify that >> your call has been forwarded to call. What's that? Everything's on camera and I can watch it. >> Doesn't really >> I don't either. That's why I just This whole thing is just a little extreme to me. I mean, even if you thought there was too much stuff in my car, doesn't really warrant taking me to jail and taking my son away from me and him for the rest of his life. So, I don't >> What's that? Your office has been forwarded to an automatic voice message. Do >> you have anybody else? >> Call the third time. I don't know who else to call. I don't know. >> Do you know where the where the live in Orand? >> No. >> You don't know where your your sister lives? Your sister. >> It's not my sister. No, I He's never met her. Christy has met and he loves her. That's why I would. >> But you don't remember where Chrissy lived? >> I would. I I know how to get there. I just don't know what her address is. Otherwise, you could take him to my neighbor's house. I mean, if you really have to. >> Listen, it's up to you. Hey, she's saying a neighbor. I don't have their phone number, but if No, if you can't find anybody. >> Which neighbors? The ones next to me. >> The ones with the two dogs right next to me. Oh, yeah. The one that is a pet. They're definitely not staying with him. But I have another neighbor on the other side. >> What's that? The >> sitting across from you. >> No, on the other side of the two lots. Yeah. Meen and Mike. >> Yeah. >> You talk to them, too? You're >> okay with >> I would prefer somebody that he knows in a different way, but if that's the last resort. Despite the mother's distress, officers remain professional and compassionate, avoiding force and seeking a safe, practical solution, placing the child with a trusted relative temporarily. >> Hey, we got Christy on the phone. >> On the phone? >> Yeah, >> Chrissy. >> Yes. >> I'm so sorry to wake you up. This is Lydia. Um I um am in a very strange situation and they're taking s my child from me and they said I had to put him somewhere until I get out of jail. So, can you please take him for the night? What's going on? >> What's her name? Christie. >> Christie. >> Hey, Christie. This is Deputy Isaac with the sheriff's office. >> So, Lydia is being taken being arrested. Um, and she said that she wants her child to go with you if that's possible. >> We can bring we can bring the child to you if that's easier. Um, what is your address? Okay. We just need someone to take custody of the child while Lydia's in jail. Um, how long are we are you any information? I don't I don't have any care for the baby. I don't I don't have anything that you take care of the child in in in the car like a bag like a diaper bag or something. >> Give me one second. Make a diaper bag that we can give her for the baby. >> I have a few diapers in the car. Not a bigger bag. >> Okay. >> Okay. I've got I have I don't have the right size, but I do have some diapers here. Lydia, you're gonna have to tell me a little bit about about him. What's going on? His allergy. I know. I mean, he's nursing, so >> I know he's he's nursing, so I don't really know what to do about that. Please just feed him very healthy food, organic if possible. I'll pay you back. They said I I could be out. >> Why is Ty calling me right now? >> Um because I couldn't get a hold of you and I called him to ask your address cuz they said that they could maybe see if they could go in person. >> Probably going straight to the house. I think I think it's easier if we just go to your house. We should be there in like 10 15 minutes. >> Okay. So, he hasn't been here since he's not familiar with my home or anything. So, you do understand that this is as I know we can answer all the questions you have. >> I'm sorry. I don't have a lot of options right now. >> I understand that. Let me ask you both this. Are you okay if I tell her any details about what happened? I don't I'm respecting your private. You don't want her to know anything about >> No, she's my friend. >> You're okay with me telling her when I get there, I can have this whole conversation. >> Okay, but Christie, will you take him right into your arms as soon as he gets there? >> Please, you promise me? I'm very nervous about him getting traumatized. >> I understand. I understand. But I I don't want him to be Is he sleeping now? Is he What's What's he doing? >> Is he sleeping? >> He's He's relaxing. >> AC. >> He's not sleeping. >> No. So, we're going to come to you cuz it's easier. Um, >> he's he's not crying right now, so it's it's easier to just ride straight to the house. >> He might once you start driving in the car without me, though. >> Drink milk from the bottom. What am I supposed to? >> No, just I'll be out very soon. They said I can just postpone bail, so it shouldn't be more than till the morning. I just He drinks apple juice. He loves apple juice. Uh, that's his favorite drink. He likes almond milk. Um, other than that, he'd just give him food. >> Okay, >> Christy. I I'm so sorry. >> Um, you know, I I'll take good care of her. >> Okay. I know you will. That's why I asked you. Thank you so much. >> All right. I'm going to hang up. Okay. >> All right. Bye-bye. We We'll be there in like 15 minutes. Okay. >> Okay. >> Can you call me and leave me a message just letting me know that he's safe with you, please? >> Okay. Thank you. >> The case will be reported to the Child Protection Agency to ensure the child's rights and safety are maintained. Do you think the CCF is probably going to have to go to her house? >> I'm going to call him or one I'll probably get to do it so he can speak freely >> and it needs to be an immediate want to take the kids >> because they probably have no idea what the relation is. >> It's just a friend. She she admitted that that is >> originally we were talking about the end. >> Yeah. Well, she said they're my friend. I trust you with them. >> Okay. >> So, they can make an immediate response. He's still not going to tell us any information about her. >> Yeah, I know his birthday from the neighbors. >> Okay. >> And name if that's what he seemed to respond to. >> Yeah, he's done it with me. >> Baby daddy somewhere daddy. >> She said that it's her last name. >> I want to get him out of here this situation as soon as possible. I also don't want to have ECF mad that we turned him over to some stranger. >> Upon learning the next steps, the mother gradually calmed down. Officers continued to provide reassurance to maintain control of the situation. >> Can you just let me say bye-bye or something to him? I mean, >> he's already in the car, man. Listen to me. The quicker I get you to the jail, the quicker you're out. >> Let's just go. Can you go and put the sirens on and just go fast? >> I'm gone. >> 2 seconds. [laughter] Just take a breath. >> I know that he's going to start crying as soon as someone else tries to drive away. Okay. >> I get you to the jail. Literally, my report is typed out. Once I send that report and sign it, you can postpond or get out and get to your kid. But >> wait, he's Why is my Where's the Where is he? >> He's in my corporal's car and we're taking him to >> He's in the police car. >> Yes, but he's secured. The thing is locked in. There's cameras all around him. No one's going to your child. We're bringing him right to Chrissy's house. >> Can you go real fast, please? I'm sorry. >> Can you just go fast? >> I can't go too fast because, god forbid I give her, you give her, but I'll go I'll get you as quick as I can. >> Can I just ask you why it's necessary to to separate us just for a few hours? just like, >> "So, if you're going if you're getting arrested, you can't bring the child to the jail." >> Why not? >> Because you're going to jail. >> But he can't just come in my arms. >> No, that's not how it works. Unfortunately, I get what you're saying. I understand what you're saying because your child and he can't do that. You're going to jail and you want him to see the jail and see you in handcuffs 24/7. >> I've been handcuffed the whole time in jail. >> Not the whole time, but like when you get moved from one area to the next, be seen other people that are in for crimes worse or less. Like, do you really want your kid to see all that? >> No. >> So, it's better that he's with Christy. Christie or Christa that he's with Christie. I understand he's not been there a while, but >> it's better he's in a secure home. >> I understand that. I just wish that I could have gone with him to drop him off cuz that would have been a lot nicer for him. >> So, the thing is you're a female and a male, >> I have cameras on, but I can't drive you from one area to the next. If I'm if I'm arresting you, I arrested you >> and you couldn't have called a female officer to come. Even if it's a female officer, we can't jump around. >> But you couldn't have driven me with him to the jail and had Christy meet us there. >> It's easier if we just bring him to Christ. >> No, I'm just saying, could you have done that? >> Well, can we do that, please? >> We were already going to Christiey's house. My corporal literally just left to go to Christiey's house. >> But I also am cons just concerned for my son and how he handles this process. >> All the people that were just on scene with us, he black officer and two white officers, we all had children. >> You all have what? We all have children. I have a little girl. >> Then I can't believe you would do this. >> The the corporal that just spoke with you for a couple minutes and talked to Christie, he has multiple children. The other the other two gentlemen have at least two children together. Uh not two children in their >> apartment. I understand your concern because he's with random people that he's never met. But >> I mean just we have a very close bond and I've never been apart from him. He's never been apart from me. You don't you wouldn't worry about your kid getting trapped. It doesn't matter anyways. >> No, I'm telling you I understand where you're at. Like if I got arrested and someone took my kid, I'd be in the same situation. But if I know I'm going to jail, I would rather get out as quick as I possibly can. >> I just don't know anything about all this stuff. So >> they put you in a jumpsuit for x amount of hours. >> They put me in a jumpsuit. >> They have to take you out of your clothes. You can't your clothes. >> Um, so just listen. >> Holy moly. >> Just listen. They book you. >> What does that mean? >> Just put your name in the system saying you got arrested for X, Y, and Z. This is your name. >> What am I being arrested for? Okay, go over that. You're just let me explain everything else. My report gets filed. Once it's submitted and I sign off on it, you go through the process of the bond if there's a bond amount and then you you can bond out and then you're out probably have a court date and the judge will say, "Hey, what happened on this day at this time? What's going on?" But you delaying the process. You see what I'm saying? It's >> Yeah. No, I understand. I'm just >> I'm trying to help you get this >> is all very I don't know anything about these systems. It's just very freaky to me. the the correction officer that that comes and gets you out of the car. If you have questions for them, they will explain. >> Okay. And then how do I get to Christiey's house? >> They know more about the jail. They they have cab companies and all that. You can call That's why I give you your phone. You can call Christy when you get out and she can pick you up. If not, then you can get a ride. >> She does not like being woken up in the middle of the night. She's probably going to be kind of annoyed about this. >> But I don't really care cuz I care about my son. I mean, I care. But >> but I can be out tonight pro most likely. >> I I don't see that being an issue. But again, I I don't 100% do this because it's always >> those go fast faster. >> Okay. [laughter] >> Take a breath. >> Oh, and if you're worried about your child with the uh breastfeeding Yeah. >> since he's with uh Christie. Yeah. >> Um my daughter takes a formula that's like >> I don't want him having formula. >> I'm just I'm just giving you an option. The closest thing to breast milk without it being >> No, I don't want him having a formula. >> You know, it's organic. Yeah, I heard you say organic. Yeah, we only eat organic. But I didn't want to impose on her either cuz she doesn't have a lot of money. >> Just so he has some type of like nourish breast milk. >> Yeah, cuz he's like 50/50 food and breast milk. >> Gotcha. How old is he? One. >> One. >> The mother faced charges of resisting an officer without violence and child without great bodily. Under Florida law, she could face up to 6 years in prison and a $6,000 fine. The focus of the law here is not solely. It serves to [music] prevent unintended consequences and ensure children's safety. Parents often give conflicting statements. Only when witnesses are present alongside evidence does the full story become clear. Let's see what this Uber driver recorded during a tense family situation. >> She stood back up, ripped his shirt. She just kept going at him, but he he didn't touch her. Man, it was hard. Okay. >> On May 20th, 2020, police received a call from an Uber driver reporting a disagreement between the mother and the children's father. Officers quickly arrived at the scene where the mother was standing outside the father's house in a stressed state and began explaining the challenges she was facing. >> Hey, stop. Police department. What's your name, bro? >> My name Marquez. >> Marquez, stop talking a minute. Okay, just hang tight for me. >> Ma'am, stay up there. Okay, well, stop walking this way. I said stay up there. >> He's me. That's where I went right there. >> You see the back of my head? >> What's your name, man? >> Right here is my It wasn't nothing. It was the argu It was conferring at first. I just lost my car. I don't want him to go to jail or I don't want me to go to jail. >> Why would anybody go to jail? >> I don't know. I don't know who called y'all unless the neighbor called y'all. >> No, it was a person that watched this all happen. >> Well, okay. He was trying to get me to leave, but I I'm homeless. I stay at the shelter. I stay at the harvest house. >> Okay. So, why are you here? >> Because I was I'm at right here at the compost. I was trying to see if his kids could come here so he could take them to school in the next morning. >> You live here? >> Yeah, he this is his residence. >> Okay. So, that's why you came over here. >> Yeah. To see if he could take his kids to school in the next morning. So, we can step over here cuz I'm high. >> No, I want the light to stay on. >> But I was trying to see you down. You're hanging >> cuz we just we was arguing that. I'm sorry. >> Okay. Well, that's not what I'm being told by other people. >> What's what the people told you cuz I >> about it right there second. Do you have an ID on it? It's all on video, too. We'll get to that >> and it's not I just started my job. What's your first name? >> So, I'm going to jail. >> I didn't say that. I said, "What's your first name?" >> I never put my hands on nobody. >> Did anybody say that? >> I don't know. I I think that's why words in my mouth. No, I was just asking you came up here aggressive. It's >> Well, he's out here screaming. You're screaming. What? What am I supposed to do? >> Well, I'm sorry. It was just >> stand here and give everybody hugs and kisses because y'all are screaming, sweating, cover. Nothing was ever domestic. I'm just trying to see if he can get the kids. He ended up saying that he would get the kids for me Sunday and he said he will take them to school Monday. His mom said he was still asleep. That's the one who called y'all. His mom. I couldn't get a hold of him. He said, >> "Why do you think his mom called?" >> Because that's who he was on the phone with when we when me and him was arguing. That's who he was on the phone with. His mom and all he was trying to do was get me away. But all I'm trying to do is get him to co-arent and help me with the kids. That's all. Me and my kids. We stay at a hotel room. We stay right there at 492. >> Sorry. >> Okay. Stand by. Don't go anywhere. You stay right there. >> The investigation included interviews with the father and the Uber driver to fully document the situation. >> Stop. >> Smells great. >> We're not doing this crap. Go sit over there like I asked you to. >> What happened? >> She know. She just came here. >> Cuz I'm being told one thing by somebody that has nothing to do with this. It also had video. So be straight with me. >> I'm being straight. I'm not There's no reason to lie to you, bro. They ain't going to lie. I came outside my house. She was coming here. He just started flipping on me. You feel me? >> Yeah. What? >> Just doing what she was doing. That's my baby mom. Uh that's my baby mom. We just going through it. He just It's really nothing to really explain. Only thing I can say she walked up and just go to yelling and just yelling. That's all it was. >> No, she just ripped my shirt. That's all I could say. But she didn't me or nothing, bro. She just ripped my shirt. >> Get an Uber and leave. No, she didn't even I ordered her Uber, but my Uber driver, you could ask the Uber driver. This guy was >> Yeah, he's trying to get her out of here. So, homeboy said he watched her him rip his shirt off, which he just said, "Yeah, she ripped my shirt off." Kid lost the shoe landing on the other door >> like tossed the kid in the car. >> She opened the door >> and grabbed the little one and she just completely like tossed them where it hit the door. Yeah. >> And then I checked there was I mean you can see debris from their shoes and stuff but I mean the kid landed over there at the door and the shoes landed there and then she threw the other one. He landed here and the kids were crying asking for mom. After reviewing the circumstances and collecting statements and evidence, authorities proceeded with appropriate legal measures. >> And then um so there you can hear kids saying, "I'm scared." The kids were crying, but obviously >> So he grabbed both the kids. She came at him in the face of him. I mean, she threw him to the ground, tore his shirt off to the ground. >> Yeah. I mean, you can still see him, but >> did you see him do anything? >> He he was running around the car. He didn't touch her, you know. Keep the kids so I can go so they can get to school. And you know where they go to school at. Keep the kids. You know I'm going to jail. You know I'm going to jail. The same reason why you went to jail. >> Can you listen to me? He didn't call the police. So don't be upset with him. This is what happens when >> Y'all know I'm going to jail. >> You want to sit down here? Come here. Take a seat right here. No, you can put me in the police car. Put me in the police car. Uh, what's going on? >> We're still investigating it. We need to talk to uh the child's father. >> My son. >> Okay. >> And I'm the grandma. >> Okay. >> The father continued his account. Having all parties present helped provide accurate information and prevent misunderstandings. >> So, what happened in the Uber? Cuz we have video. >> It was just she put the kids in there. I really didn't get in Uber until I got the kids out of the Uber. I was just getting the kids out of the Uber. >> Just so you know, the video inside the Uber. >> Okay. Okay. But they got the video.
