GET OUT OF THE CAR NOW. GET ON THE GROUND. ON THAT GROUND NOW. GET DOWN. >> NO, DUDE. NO, NO, NO. You have no No, no, no, no. >> They are covered in dirt. They smell very badly. >> These children have witnessed moments when adults struggle to manage [music] their behavior in many settings on the streets, at home, and even in places meant to feel secure. >> They said that you were tweaking out and they thought enough to call us. >> I'm getting sleepy. The children were never part of the situation, yet they still face the impact of adult decisions, leading authorities to intervene. >> What would you do if you saw your children in a situation like this? >> Boy, um just had shorts on, no shoes, no shirt, and they were randomly for about 2 hours coming in. >> On October 1st, [music] 2022, authorities received several calls about a group of children at a parking lot barefoot, visibly unckempt, [music] and without clear adult supervision. When approached, the mother explained she was dealing with personal [music] challenges temporarily staying at a hotel and trying to avoid tension with her spouse. >> Hi there. Hi. >> How are you doing? >> Hi. >> Are you Courtney? >> Yeah. >> Are these all your your babies? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Hey, puppy. >> All right. We're just sisters down the way in the Halloween store. >> Oh, okay. >> Walking them, but they're bad, so they had to come back. >> Oh. >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. We're just getting some calls of some children running around in the parking lot and people got concerned and nervous and >> Oh, yeah. No, my mom did run away, though. And so the kids, they tried to chase after her, but I told them, you know, please. >> The dog. >> Yeah. How long have you had your dog for? >> Since she was 4 weeks. >> Hi, puppy. What's her name? Her name's Cashmir. >> Cashmir. All right. So, is your does your sister have kids, too, or she? Okay. And they're all down there. How many are I can't even tell. How many kids you got? Oh my gosh. How many does she have? >> She has four. >> So, you have seven total with you guys right now? >> Uh, yeah. >> Oh my gosh. >> Holy moly. Okay, go talk. She's got three kids in there. She's sisters with her four kids at the spirit store. We don't even know this is a vehicle. We're just assuming she's out with the dog. >> But there's not a black female in the car. What's kind of going on is my husband has been cheating on me and um I live in the traffic. >> Oh, I live in the 16 apartment. >> Anyway, sorry. >> So, my husband, he's been cheating. I've been we've been away from the house for like a week. I just I'm trying to stay away so he can understand that I don't want to be with him anymore, you know. >> And so, um, we're just >> And you didn't see on camera. >> Have you been living out of the car then? >> No, in in the um Greenwood >> Hotel. I think that Yeah, Greenwood over off of uh 320, I believe. >> Okay. Yeah. Okay. >> Cops dance. It has >> not a big deal. We're good. I was thinking about getting >> you know why we got called out, right? >> Yeah. I'm going to go verify first. >> Full circumstances. I'm going to go verify. I'm going to go walk inside. >> What's the plan? >> Um I'm just waiting for my sister and then we're going to go eat at Sher's and then probably go back to the room. Okay. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> Wait, what is this? >> It's my body camera. >> Yeah, it's recording you right now. >> Right now. You're forever immortalized. >> You're famous. >> You're okay. That's okay. You don't have to be scared. >> Here, why don't you pick up that stuff? >> Let me out >> right there. >> Witnesses shared that the children were often left to handle basic needs on their own and move [music] between nearby stores while the accompanying adult appeared extremely fatigued and struggled to remain fully attended. >> Hi. Who is the most person in the know? Okay. Can you Is it that big old white SUV out there? >> Okay. So, what exactly have you seen? >> We haven't seen much except for the kids keep individually coming in here getting cups of water and ice, which is no big deal, but they're dirty. Boy, um just had shorts on, their [music] shoes, no shirt, and they were randomly for about 2 hours coming in. We kept trying to watch, but we've been busy that they would like go outside and dissolve. We couldn't tell where they were going. So, this last time they came in, we went and watched where they were going and one of my servers walked um over to the front to see if she could see any parents or anything and she said they were both self-care. And who was that? Can you just tell us what you witnessed when you walked over? >> So, I checked the mail and then walked in front of the car and the both the subjects were like forward like falling asleep. >> The person who's out there now? >> Yeah. The girl was in the driver's seat and then I believe there was a black male in the passenger I believe. >> But for sure the woman that we're talking to was completely slumped over and where were the children at? >> They were in the back and the windows were down and the car was running. >> Would you be willing to provide like a recorded statement of just official statement of what you saw? >> Absolutely. >> Okay, awesome. >> Thank you. Of course, >> sir. Um, she did go in and get some water from Sher's, but I was right here watching and everything, you know. So, like >> this looks like an airplane. >> They are a little out of control. >> According to reports, the children's living environment did [music] not meet basic standards of care. They stated they had not received consistent support for some time and had rarely seen their father due to the parents living separately. >> Yeah, I please away from your kids. notices. >> Okay. So, I'm going to be very blunt with you, and this is going to go one or two ways. Okay. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Uh, we have reason to take all three children into protective custody. And so, that's what we're going to do. >> Okay. You and I both know what's going on here. That's why we're here. Hi, baby. >> What's going on? Tell me. >> We've had multiple witnesses calling in about all of your children. They're filthy. You and somebody else were in there, passed out in the car. We have multiple witnesses. Yes. I'm not like I said, it's going to go one of two ways. No problem. So, here's what's going to happen is I'm going to get really good contact information from you. I am going to allow you to come back to the station and meet with CPS directly. But as far as the police are concerned, I do not have faith if I leave these children in your custody that they're going to be protected and safe. And that's how we're doing what we're doing. And then charges will be forwarded to the prosecutor for negligence. >> Okay, that's where we're at right now. >> So, if I have my sister come, that's what I'm saying is that's why you can come back and we're going to have that direct conversation about somebody that you deem who they always try to keep with family. But as far as the police are concerned, we intervene when we believe that the child's safety is in jeopardy. We are the initial contact. Then what happens is the CPS gets involved. Then they will find a family member if you can find one that can pass a background check that you feel safe with to take the children into custody while resources or whatnot gets gets presented to you. Whether that be different shelter, whether that be some referral stuff, but as far as we're concerned and the amount of information that we've gotten from a multiple third party unrelated, right? We're not just here picking on you. That's what I always tell people is that we're here because something's going on. We know we wouldn't be here. I'm not contacting that car or anybody else. >> No. Yeah, I hear you. I understand. I'm not going to give you any problem. I just I really um I don't agree, you know, >> and typically people don't >> Well, yeah. No, I am going through some things. Yeah. >> You know, but I was never passed out. I was on the phone with >> I'm just Everything is audio and visually recorded. >> No. Yeah, you're good. I was on the phone with Green Dot and Progressive. I have an insurance thing going on. Okay. you know, and I allowed and them to go get some water, >> okay? >> And I was watching them. The dog did get loose and so, you know, they obviously ran after the dog, whatever. I got out, you know, went and got the dog. There was three ladies over there. You know, I mean, sorry about that. You know, I I but I'm not going to give you any problems. I I appreciate that. Like I said, I try to be very straightforward because there's no point in trying to pull a veil over your eyes and tell you something's going on that's not or try to like lie to you. I don't work that way. I'd just be much I'd rather be very upfront and blunt with what I have if you are going to do that. Considering where we're at now, I am going to read you your Miranda rights. Okay? You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in the court of law. You have the right at the time to talk to a lawyer and have them present with you while you're being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you before questioning if you wish. You decide at any time to exercise these rights and not answer any questions or make any statements. Let's >> talk about Halloween. >> Listen, who are you guys? You know, you're okay. Listen, you guys are going to have to go with these guys. >> Listen, it's okay. >> We're just going to go play for a little bit. That's all. >> Wait, >> we're going to go play. >> We don't want We're going to play. >> Yeah, there's a whole room. There's snacks. It's just for a little bit. >> I love snacks. >> Oh, I can tell. Let's go get you some snacks. Okay. >> I can tell. >> And you guys can all stay together. How cool is that? The decision to relocate the children was made swiftly, [music] leaving the mother overwhelmed and emotionally unsettled. >> Hi, my name my name. You know, I just have just I just I'm just trying to figure out like, you know, what what was I like what was I supposed to you know I there's really nowhere ever you can go and park and just not be doing anything wrong. And >> so you weren't doing today and slept over with another gentleman in your car while your children shoulder were sitting? >> No, I don't have no gentleman was with me at all. >> Okay. Well, and if that's what you're going to if that's your statement, then that's your statement. But we have there has been no gentlemen concerned third parties unbiased who've been watching you. The black gentleman that was in your car with your children left over. That's no gentlemen. >> And that's and that can be your statement when we have >> But there's cameras too, right? >> And and we will absolutely be getting the cameras. Yes. >> Okay. Yeah. That is not true. >> At all. And so you guys are taking my kids because of accusations >> of multiple people reporting the same thing and that your children have been running around inside and out. They're filthy that asking for water with no parental supervision in a parking lot. >> I was right here. I mean I told you guys that they went to get water before you even told me that. >> And you can provide a fullblown reported statement at the station if you would like just about recollection of the >> Yeah. And it's not but the thing is it's not going to change anything. Like I said, as of right now, >> you know, it's it's not fair. >> As of right now, they're not facing any criminal charges. It's just being forwarded to the prosecutor based upon as police officers when we get a 911 call and then we hear multiple people all reporting the same thing. We have to intervene in what's best for what we can see the tally of the circumstances and what's best for the children. And so that's what we're doing. Whether or not charges get filed with prosecutor or they define the case, that's up to them. And then CPS comes in and if there's resources that need to be offered, they will they try to make a they call it like an emergency action plan. >> So then how come I'm just asking also so then why wouldn't I why wouldn't I be able to get my kids back? >> Because I'm taking a protective custod and if you have prior CPS involvement at all. None at all. No. >> Okay. No child prior like children taken. Okay. That will be on them. But as far as like it's kind of like we have responsibility. We take care of it and then we pass it. you know, on CPS and then they go from there. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Does that make sense? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. Totally. >> Okay. >> As far as like so the accusations that were made about some dude in my truck, how do we how do you really, you know, figure out or know that that's not what happened or whatever. Like, >> uh, so everything's just going to be about evidence, right? So, we we take statements and then CCTV and all that stuff will speak to it. Cameras here, cameras here, cameras inside, all that stuff. I mean, we do an entire investigation. It's not like it's just face value, right? It's just based upon the information we have here and now. We're going to take action on behalf of the children and we're going from there. Okay. And the address is on that business card as well. >> Is where I'll be going? >> Yes. 8th Avenue South. Yeah. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> They may come with back with me today. >> It's Yeah. CPS is going to make that determination. >> Okay. >> We're going to get a hold of them and kind of see what what they would like to do with this whole thing. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, it may take it may take a half an hour. Will we call them and figure it out? Or it may take a few hours for them to come down. I don't know how long. >> So, when do you think would be best for me to show up? >> If the officers here are done with you, I just go over there right now. >> Okay. Okay, that sounds good. But I won't see them. >> No, not for right now. >> Okay. All right. >> You don't have to. All right. You ready? >> Yep. >> All right, buddy. We're gonna go. Well, we have a playroom. There's some toys and stuff in there. >> What's in here? >> Um, there's a bunch of different stuff. We'll we'll you'll see. We'll be there in just a few minutes. >> Mhm. >> Transport. >> When the father arrived, conversations about daily routines, caregiving roles, and the [music] broader legal framework revealed a complex family dynamic, one that cannot be understood through a single perspective. What this going on? >> I don't know. >> Um I was going to go make a call. Do you want to get hang out and get some pictures? >> Mhm. >> I'll be right back, man. Okay. >> Hi. Is it Lindsay or Lindsay? >> Okay. Lindsay. Do you have a question or >> Yeah. I want you my kids. >> And I get that, but unfortunately where we're at right now, we're just trying to figure out what's what's going on with CPS. How did you guys get here? Did you guys come together or? >> No. Yeah, I drove. >> You drove? Okay. Based upon everything right now, I know you don't know a whole heck of a lot other than the fact that they were put in a a situation, right? And so when CPS gets here, they look at the entirety of the circumstances of, you know, she wasn't mom. I get that. But then she was also left with the children. And apparently you kind of knew stuff was up, but she still had the children. And then living circumstances. We were told one thing by her, one thing by you guys. So do >> Listen, they know what's going on. She got her own house. I got my own house. >> Okay. You know what I mean? And that's how it is. You know what I mean? She's mom. I'm trying to go to chances. You know what I mean? >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> So, when's the last time you saw your kids? >> My kids? I see my kids about every other day or every day. >> I go cuz this the plan. Okay. I set the plan. I was tired going on, right? So, I put my sister at the house. >> Okay. >> I know about my kids all the time. I'm calling about my kids and everything about all the time. You know what I mean? But she came to me and runs off and then you know, I can't say nothing. They're in her custody. They're not in mine. You know what I mean? >> Yeah. But whenever there's no custom, but you know what I mean? I don't push that because there's native laws, you know what I mean? And the native law is wins. Native people, they win. You know what I mean? >> So that doesn't answer my question. When the last time that you actually physically saw him like like I seen him see I went to work this morning. So I was so from the house. I seen them yesterday morning. Yesterday night I came through. We ate waxed. You know what I mean? I got some food all that. They were supposed to be going to the house and help. >> Where are you living? Cuz that would be more than likely where the children reside. >> I would be living in Tilum. I really wouldn't be living in if I had my kids would be different because I'll be living in that three-bedroom house and I would just drive to work every day than just living down in Tilum where my job is. See what I'm saying? >> Okay. So then the the truth of the story is is that based upon everything again and they also look at previous CPS history, right? Has there been CPS history before with your children? But with your specific three children? >> Yes. >> Okay. And then look at prior criminal history of you and current driving status. Like your DAL is three. You're not supposed to be driving. So then, and I don't know about you, is your license suspended? >> No. No. >> No. Okay. And that's what we're going to go. All of these things get taken consideration cuz it's about at this point in time, it's about the children. They are covered in dirt. They smell very badly. Looks like they've been living out that car. She said they've been living out that car for about a week now or staying at some motel she couldn't name because you and her have been fighting. And so again, we always are doing what's what we believe is best of the children. So when CPS gets here, we look at everything and be given and hold on, hear me out. Hear me out. But again, based upon everyone's telling different story. No one's given us straight answers. All I know is that we were called and found these children in situation and I'm always going to do what I can to protect you. >> Yes. Yeah. Absolutely. And I'm very passionate. I have my own kids. Kids don't get to speak for themselves, but based upon the dirt and their smell, it's they don't smell like they've taken a shower in days. Like it's not good. It's It's very apparent that they've not been taken care of. >> They all wet themselves at night time and when they >> Correct. And they It sounds like they have It smells like they have been sitting in it for quite some time. >> My kids is messy. Listen, I ain't going to lie to you. My kids is bad as hell. Okay. And they messy. >> You know what I mean? But they they was not like that last night at all. >> They smell as if like I said they've been in their own filth for quite some time. So >> you know they all my family has we pee on ourselves like 165. We went to bed all that. We have diapers at the house and all that. But you know what I mean? When mom takes on me and says, I can't step up and get them. I'm telling you, I can't because there's a native law that I've been the same. If you look me up right now, same thing with the next B. All I do is chase them. I'm in court cases. I'm in all that. >> I know. I've seen your criminal history. I know that there's extensive criminal history. But what I'm saying is is at the end of the day, we are trying to do what's best for them. We work with what we know, what their past history is, what our past history is, and then based upon what we believe is going to be the safest option for the children. That's what we go with. So, as it stands right now, CPS isn't here. Do you have your ID on you? >> Yeah. >> I would love to run you, if you don't mind, real quick. >> We tell them everything and we try to make a plan. They're always going to try to put the children back with the safest family member that there is. Right. If you tell my my lieutenant and my other partner that she's been crazy for a month, but then she's got the kids, right? Then I ask you, why on earth would you let those children go with somebody who's been not well and been fighting? If you know she's been off or she's been doing drugs and she's been falling asleep in cars, a reasonable person would say, "Okay, dad, why on earth would you let those kids go with them, right?" And so then my concern is not just about her choices, but then your choices, right? Because I care. That's my job is to protect those kids. So that's all of the things that we're taking consideration. We don't take this kind of stuff lightly. And we just want to make sure when I go home tonight that I have full faith that those kids are safe and taken care of. That is the only thing that I care about. Does that make sense? Okay. >> 1 million 463. >> I always say when we take them into protective custody, it's like a big pause button. We're going to go pause because at this point in time, they were not safe. We need to try to figure out what safe looks like. So, it's a big old pause. So, before you can come see them or we can release them, we have to It's like a full court press of trying to do what's best for those kids cuz we just want to make sure that they're safe. Okay. >> Okay. >> Thank you guys. >> Yep. It was reported that the father has a significant criminal history including multiple domestic [music] allegations while the mother has prior records related to and property crimes. The mother faces [music] three counts of child. Under Washington law, she could face a maximum penalty of up to 3 years in prison and a $15,000 fine. This case [music] is a reminder that when children's well-being is at stake, timely action is not [music] about assigning blame. It's about ensuring safety and creating a chance for a more stable future. cuz she definitely wasn't raised like this. My baby has a good job. She's a welder. She got her CDLs and I tell them when you with trash, you get trashy. >> This is not just a story about child safety, but also about family pain where a grandmother can only watch in distress as her own child becomes a growing concern for her grandchildren. On February 24th, 2024, authorities noticed a mother driving unpredictably at a high speed in a residential neighborhood. When asked to pull over, her explanations were unclear and she failed to ensure safe conditions for everyone in the vehicle, especially the two young children in the back seat. [screaming] >> Hey, how you doing? >> A report that you've been flying up and down this road back and forth. Is there any reason for that? >> Trying to do something right. >> What is that? >> Okay. You got your driver's license cuz I just saw you flying up road again. Is there any particular reason why he's not in a seat belt? >> But you don't have a reason for flying up and down the road like that. >> Reason what? >> You're just going to have to assume you just don't have a reason. >> No, I'm going because it's the right thing to do. >> It's not the right thing to do. It's not the right thing to speak on residential English. >> Well, is God going to pay your citation? >> Have to do it on a >> You can pull it up on your computer, right? >> Okay. Just pull it over. 225. >> The situation quickly became difficult to manage. Instead of stopping, the mother continued driving, creating a tense pursuit. The vehicle moved erratically, ignored traffic guidance, and passed through sensitive areas, including near a school. >> Not yet. I'll advise 104. She's going 108. >> You said she's taking 108. >> She just rammed in my car. >> Get out of the car. >> She's going south on Hamby on the Beamas. Southbas passing dominoes. She's doing 90. Weaving in and out of traffic. >> Cross stood still 25. Is there vehicle? >> That's 104. >> Any of what age? about 8 and 12. This cross guest. She's weaving in and out and extremely reckless. She's come up the oak. She's going up on the curb. Got up on the median to get around traffic. She's going the wrong way down northbound lane. Going head on with traffic now. >> She's back southbound. Coming up on perimeter. East on priv road and enter. >> You dumb bite stupid son. Got the way. >> Run the red light at forest perimeter. I'll have sticks at home road and interfere. >> Crossing JC Shack. She's doing 100. Run the red light at Lakeland South. Still southbound on doing 100 past high school. 115. >> Are y'all born stupid or what? >> Coming up on 84 red light. Cross 84. Still south final perimeter reinforcement south perime 2 and 19. I'm here at the inter 1080. We advise we had a unit at hunt road with stops. Coming up on Got the ST got the sticks boxing in. Get draw down safely. Box them in. Box them in. >> Run the box, unit. Run the box. She's using her turn signal and she's turning down hell road. Front right is flat. >> I'm in front of that pursuit on >> We can try to pin him. Just pin her right here. Front left is flat also. >> Yes, we are. She got around the road block. We're still westbound now. call it westbound road through this whole. >> You might expect the situation to end when the vehicle began experiencing technical problems. Unfortunately, the stress and uncertainty continued. >> Everybody remember there's children in the car. We'll try to box her in as we can. >> She's got three flats. still maintain 7 passing San Bernardino. >> No, I believe all four is flat. >> Speeds are down to 45 and 40. Still westbound up on Sam's Lane. Just ahead of you is a funeral procession turned into the church. They already >> just pulling on >> pulling on the Sims lane in the dirt. I'm blocking that uh play temple. There's several vehicles behind her. You start going around this. She's stopped. >> Get out of the car. Get out of the car. >> Out of the car. [ __ ] Get out OF THE CAR NOW. GET ON THE GROUND. ON THE GROUND NOW. GET DOWN. THEY STAND ON THE GROUND NOW. Shut up. Put the head back. >> Eventually, the vehicle came into contact with another car and stopped on private property. Inside, an infant cried in distress. Even then, the mother insisted that she did it for a good reason. >> You scared? I'm scared. >> You okay, buddy? >> All right. >> Can you call my mom? I ain't calling nobody. Shut up. >> You did that with CHILDREN IN THE CAR? >> I DID IT. WHAT? WHAT REASON? >> You don't do it for no good reason. >> Hey, reach out there. Turn that car off. No, no, no, no. Not you. Not you. We'll take care of it, bud. >> Appreciate it. >> On your feet. >> On your feet. Come on. >> Search. >> Okay. >> You got anything on you we need to know about? Anything weapons? Anything step me. >> Is that your bomb? >> What's wrong with your mom, man? >> I I don't know. >> Huh? >> I don't know. >> Is she on any kind of medication or anything? >> No. >> Okay. Has she ever ate like this before? >> No. >> No. I'M NOT SURE >> WHAT HAPPENED, SIR. WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM? >> SEE, there was an encounter. Police believe the deputies back there that um encountered her. She was called in. Made contact with her and then she decided to go. What is she worried about? >> That guy right there has a warrant in that yellow shirt. You heard me, sir? >> You need to worry more about yourself than anybody with a warrant. >> Okay. >> Thank you so much for everything. >> Yes, ma'am. Everybody's got everybody's information and everything. So, uh, >> you see, they know her. She's messing with that baby daddy. >> Oh my god. >> Well, >> yeah, >> that ain't that ain't got nothing to do with me or us and everything, but so she she knows these people. >> Oh, she her kid is dad know these people. >> So, she's had to been out here before. >> Mhm. Last night. >> Okay. >> His name Harley. >> Okay. >> Mhm. >> Now, does she have your daughter? Does she have full custody of the children? >> Uh-huh. >> Does he have >> He don't want anything. He's on. He's on. >> Oh, okay. So, he don't even have visitation there or if he does. He may not. >> He don't want it. That's a shame. Embarrassing me cuz she definitely wasn't raised like this. My baby has a good job. She's a welder. She got her CDLs and I tell them when you with trash, you get trashy. The mother was charged with aggravated, fleeing or attempting to elude two counts of to children, reckless driving, and failure to maintain lang. In states such as Washington, Texas, Florida, and California, charges of this nature can carry potential sentences ranging from 10 to 50 years in prison, depending on the circumstances and applicable law. This case serves as a sobering reminder of how emotional regulation, adult responsibility, and respect for traffic safety play a critical role in protecting children and everyone around them. One mother, one emergency call, and consequences that could reshape an entire family's future. >> NO, let me get my phone. No, NO, LET ME CALL MY SON. NO, I DON'T NEED NOTHING. On April 14th, 2024, authorities were called to a home following reports of a serious family dispute involving a mother and her children. The situation escalated quickly with clear signs that emotions had intensified beyond what was appropriate in a family environment. >> Hey, what's going on? >> Um, I called my sister was acting a little radical and going in the house at one point. She was throwing things everywhere. She probably >> She's still inside. >> Yeah, she's inside. >> I'll go talk to her. Is the door open? >> It should be open. >> Okay. But I just needed some help cuz I didn't want to have kids out here. >> She live here. >> Yes. >> You got any mental problems or anything? >> You can say so, but she won't admit it. >> All right. So, what was she doing? >> Her and her daughter Tur had got into an argument and I didn't know what was going on. My son just came outside and told me that they were fighting her. And when I went inside, they had stopped, but then they started up again. And then I didn't know what she had did or whatever to them. But all I know was the mother and the daughter was coming out and it was about to I tried to move her out the way to, you know, get I didn't know what was going on. It was just too much going on at one time. >> Right. >> Once I got her out the door, they got mad and was like, "Why did you let her go now? They're throwing stuff at the door." So, we just closed the door and I just stood in front of the door called I waited for a while, but she just wouldn't stop yelling and throwing [ __ ] I'm just doing the most. At this point, I don't know what she's going to My dad wasn't here at the time, so I was like, I need some kind of help. You said fighting. You meant like arguing or like >> they were arguing. But I mean what scared me was when she stuck the knife through the door when I was standing there. It's a cut in the door now cuz she tried to put through the door. But for what? I guess cuz I was standing there. So that's when I was like, "Okay, I'm going to get some help." >> Yeah. So I I at this point I didn't know where she was going. >> So what do you want to see happen today? >> She did want me to go to jail, but then again I don't know how this is going to play out tonight. >> Hey sir, >> where's sister at? >> She this. >> Yeah. Hold on. Hey, you all right? It's definitely Tourist. Are you naked? I'm sorry. >> That's why I was trying to >> I'm sorry. Go ahead. You're witnessing what happened? >> No. >> Okay. Okay. What's going on today, Mr. Bruno? >> I don't know. I was asleep and my sister apparently are letting the kids fight outside. So, yes, I got mad and all I'm not doing because now I need to call my dad and find out what's going on. Nobody could wake me up. Say my kids were fighting. So, you trying to entertain that out there in the car? Her little boyfriend or whoever. It was him. >> That's who they was out there playing. She pushes the door. I'm trying to come out. They push the door closed. You didn't do nothing but help yourself get locked out till a grown-up come cuz you obviously you're a grownup. >> Now, does your sister live here with y'all? >> Yeah, that's this is my dad. >> I'd have stayed over there. I apologize. >> I wish I could have. But it's country. I like it laid back. >> Yeah, it is. It's slow. >> It's just slow. >> But um So you were sleeping in your bedroom. Yeah. You just heard him fighting outside. >> All this commotion up. At first it was all in this in the kitchen part. I mean it was sliding running. >> Who was fighting? Was it your kids or her kids? >> All the kids were fighting each other. Just it was just a big old commotion going on right now. But as I'm getting up out the door, they're all going toward the outside like they somebody left the door open and I guess she took a bonnet and stuck it in the dirt. She wet it. Stuck it in the dirt and stayed outside. Then she said, "Oh, we got it." I don't want you to hurt her. That's my child. Okay. If I tell her to come in here and sit down, you don't tell my child to do something totally different. >> You told her what now? Again, >> I asked her to come here so I can ask her what was going on. They told my sister and her her daughter who me this is why my lip is split open. She helps me to let my daughter run through there. Like they're telling her to just run, but nobody's her. You guys had all this commotion going on with your son trying to aggravate her. Supposedly that's what was going on with her. They all went out the door. I locked it because now I need to talk to my dad cuz I'm letting him know like Mickey is telling Sher to go out the door that it's okay to claim. Why? It's a big old commotion. She's saying that somebody's fighting her. I hear my daughter scream. I didn't know but I knew every day she gets aggravated by my nephew. So, okay. I'm thinking, well, the mom is in the kitchen. Somebody got to be all right, you know. Come on, man. But she's in here. Oh, run what? She's pushing all the kids out the door. And so now I lock the door cuz now she telling me I need to come outside cuz um what I supposed to do? Just stand here and let you hurt your child? Hold on. That's my baby. When I tell her to come in this way, that's what she's going to go. You deal with your children. But I see that it's a lot of misunderstanding with her trying to discipline my kid. She don't have to do that. She need to worry about her four and I worry about my three. >> That's right. >> That's just it. If she got a problem with Listen, she cursed at my daughter. My daughter was like, "F you B." You know, so I told her, "Come on here. No more outside for you." They push her out the door. All them running towards the door. That's how I guess she me trying to push her arm back like she didn't want me to come behind it. So I didn't go behind. I closed the door and locked and I went over here and I locked that door and then we called my dad. Me and my daughter here. >> What happened to that door right there? Somebody stabbed the door. >> She said that she stabbed the door at the night. >> Witnesses described a highly tense scene. Adults arguing, others attempting to calm the situation, and children visibly frightened, trying to stay out of the way. >> Who all saw her do that to the door? >> Who all saw her do that to the dog? Everybody. >> Everybody. >> Well, she said she's like, "She in the line." >> She said she don't know who did that. >> Oh, wow. >> Y'all both live here. >> Okay. >> What did she say? >> So, she's saying she saw everybody just in the kitchen fighting. And she come out said, "What's going on?" And you began to rush everybody out here. And she was telling her daughter, I don't know who she is, but she's telling her daughter to come inside. He started cussing at her. Daughter wasn't listening. And they just, y'all just everybody just come outside. >> What happened to her? >> Yeah. It was awkward because she said that I my sister said I was in her stuff and then she got mad. She came over there. She me she said she need >> your mom. Is that your nose? >> This is on Facebook. So, I'm trying to push her. >> I got one more thing to say. They have in this house and over here is moon rocks. And >> can I talk to you? >> You can check the car right there, but they're guarding. >> Is that what you needed to tell? >> Uh-huh. >> Okay. Let me just finish talking with them. Okay. >> Get her out of the way. I'm not I can't stand there and let you whatever she was going to do to us. I had to get her out the way. >> So, y'all weren't fighting in the kitchen or nothing like that? The kids the kids weren't >> they were trying to charge at her and that's when I was like trying to >> trying to push her out the way. >> I'm like cherish go that way. And she was like no. At first I was trying to stop her cuz I know she likes to run. So I grabbed her. So I had her. So when I had her that's when they were coming toward me like she was about to pound the hell out of her. So I was like oh I let her go and go out the door. Then she got mad at us. We walked out the door and she started throwing stabbing and still yelling. >> Man, I couldn't stand that. I had to cough up. That's the only hype person everybody know. >> I didn't know what else to do. >> Were y'all still all inside when she stabbed the door? >> I was standing against the door. That's why she stabbed the door. Okay. >> Because at this point, I didn't want her to come out the door cuz I didn't I know she could have grabbed the knife. So, I tried to block the door the whole time and she locked us out anyway. So, we couldn't even get in. We wasn't even going to try. Not at this place. She was just throwing stuff everywhere. >> Well, she can't keep y'all out of the house cuz you guys are resident, you know. Vice versa, if she didn't want y'all in there, I can't keep y'all from not being here. >> I know. I was just trying to keep everybody safe at that time. So, I got my And like I said, my dad wasn't here at the time. I didn't even want to go in that time, but you know, I I'm eventually go in, but I don't know what she got planned later for me cuz I called y'all. I would like her to go. >> How long ago was it y'all moving forward? >> She came in August. She came in November. That's why she told me y'all come back from or y'all moved here from Florida. Yeah. >> Well, I hate y'all having a bad experience already. >> Really? Like and I don't even know because I won't let her get a shower. I can't let her do that. >> Is that all just this right here and your nose and your lip being you're not from inside your lip? Nothing like that. No is on your body, your hands, your arms, nothing like that. And your mama's the one that done all that, right? >> My sister stepped on me right here. >> Where's your sister? Is she inside? >> I didn't talk to you, but what happened? You and your sister were again. And what happened from there? She said she was going to hit me and then she came over there and she me that's when I started her back and was fighting and then she stepped on me and then my mama came out there she when I came outside she said she was cuz I ran. >> But the reason why she claimed she was trying to her was because she threw or sprayed some bleach on them. So this is what she was trying to >> Why would you let her go and she sprayed bleach all on me? >> That's what she to spray bleach on us. on us. Y'all, y'all, I should spray it on y'all since she sprayed on me so y'all can see how it feel. That's why I wanted to try and let her come out the door. I didn't know what she was going to do at this. >> Oh, okay. So, y'all were holding the door from her coming out. Okay. Okay. Okay. >> I got >> After reviewing the circumstances [music] and gathering information from those involved, authorities took formal steps to assess accountability under applicable regulations. >> All right, Miss Edwards, I got a bunch of witnesses saying that you put a on a little girl's face. me, sir. Yo, let me tell you. I came out here to get my ice cream. I went back in here. She sprayed bleach on me. So, I hit her. I'm the one who made this cuz I had >> my mother was sleep. I just I was in the room with my mom asleep in my hair. Went in the freezer to go get my ice cream. Everybody in here just know what I'm saying. So, I'm like what it is? So, she I go back here. She said, "F you spray bleach on me." So, I you know what I'm saying? Like, come on. What you spraying bleach on me for? And I think one of them told her >> actually she had to give it to her cuz she was standing in the kitchen around the bleach right here. The glee sprays is cleaner. I smell it. I'm telling you, it was a lot of commotion going on. But my sister standing right there. >> She didn't just say that. >> It's all good cuz God GOING TO GET THEM, BABY. I didn't put my hands on my child. I told her to come here. Guess what? They all stepped in the way. Oh, no. We're not going to let you her so that's why she went out the door. >> We was at it cuz she sprayed bleach. We was right here. >> Those two fight or whatever. I did. >> There's a bunch of kids just fighting. >> Yeah, we are going to have take you today. So, >> no. No, I'm not going anywhere. You don't do anything. >> Hey, my bro. >> No, I'm hurt. I'm not. Come here now. No. No. No. My mother did not. >> Just put your hands back. >> No. No. I'm not. No. No. Dude, no. No. No. YOU DON'T HAVE NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. >> WE GOT A BUNCH OF FOLKS SAYING THAT. WE GOT A BUNCH OF FOLKS SAYING, >> "OH, WELL. WELL, you need to take them to jail, too." No. No. I'll go down there. No. No. Sir. NO. FOR WHAT? NO. >> THERE AIN'T NO NEED TO HARM. Don't look. >> LET ME GET MY PHONE. NO. NO. LET ME CALL MY SON. >> NO, I DON'T NEED NOTHING. >> DON'T RESIST. DON'T RESIST. JUST GO. JUST GO. >> Just go. Just go. >> Stand right there. Thank you. >> Yes, sir. >> Yeah. My my dad. >> Who? >> Her boyfriend. >> And she need to go too. They got around. Put them all in jail. >> If he lives here, he's going to have to be a >> live here. >> She does. And she gave him permission. He's going to have to be a >> This [ __ ] is crazy. What the >> What? You rent this place or own it? Then you can go talk to the magistrate judge, get him evicted, or talk to the landlord. >> Okay. >> You don't have nothing on you, do you? >> Okay. >> The mother was charged with first-degree cruelty, simple, and criminal trespass. Under Georgia law, she could face a potential sentence ranging from 7 to 22 years in prison. In such a situation, emotional self-control along with a clear understanding of personal responsibility plays a vital role in preventing situations that can leave lasting impact on an entire family. This was meant to be nothing more than a routine dental visit for a child. Yet, within minutes, the clinic became the starting point of an unexpected legal situation. >> Shut up. Why? >> The law says I have to tell it. On December 10th, 2024, staff at a pediatric dental clinic contacted authorities after noticing that the mother who brought the child in appeared physically unsteady and disoriented. She struggled to remain balanced. Her speech was unclear and her behavior raised concern. [music] Officers soon located her vehicle nearby. While she maintained that she was capable of driving and caring for her child. >> Sorry, I called. She's actually partially dead. >> Oh, >> she's I'm telling you, she's on >> Okay. >> Yeah. Thank you so much. A little girl. >> Is is the kid with her? >> Yeah. >> All right. Okay. All right. Um one one of us may come back to talk to you. Okay. >> Is he coming out when I get one? I'm at Dunkin Donuts 292. It's a black Honda parking job registration. >> I'm out with him. >> Hello. >> I'm officer Goffan Police Department. How are we doing today? I'm good. I'm on the phone with my husband. >> Okay. Do you know why I'm trying to contact you? >> No. >> Okay. Were you just at the dentist office over there for your child? Uh they seem to think that maybe something's wrong with you. >> Okay. Sorry. >> Are we What's going on? >> Nothing. >> Okay. You take any drugs? >> No, I'm on medication. >> Just prescriptions. >> Okay. What would that be for? >> Uh manic depression, bipolar. >> Okay. When was the last time you took that? >> Uh today. >> Like what time? I take some in the morning and I take some at night. >> And that's what you're prescribed >> to do. Yeah. >> Were you planning on going to Duncan here or you were just just making the phone call? >> Is there any reason why the employees over there at the dentist office would say that you were kind of acting funny? >> Um I I don't really know. Not like walking funny or >> like talking funny. Is there anything that you think you said to them that may have been misunderstood? >> I don't think >> I don't know. There's policemen here. >> Do you live around here? >> Yeah, I live up the street. >> Okay. Lake in the hills. Lockwin. >> Lake in the hills. >> That part. >> Do you just have the one kid with you? >> Yeah. Who's here? >> Hi. >> Sorry. I was just eating something. >> Okay. Um >> Well, what did they say? >> They said that you were tweaking out and they thought enough to call us. >> Do I need to come there? Can you ask them? >> You're in speaker. Um they said that I was tweaking out at the dentist. Do I say something to them? >> Haven't been able to talk to them yet cuz as soon as we got uh over there that uh they said you were over here. So, >> all right. Well, I'm coming up in the room going on. I'm not going to sit here. >> Am I like under arrest or anything or >> No, you're not. But based on what you're saying of you taking medication and them saying a certain thing, oh, I'd like to run you through some tests to make sure that you're safe to drive home with your kid. >> Hang out. Can I You want me to park straight or >> No, it's fine. I can leave it there. >> Okay. Watch her. I'm going to get my book. >> So, what's freaking out? yourself. >> To ensure everyone's safety, [music] officers carried out standard observations. During this process, the mother had difficulty following instructions, lost balance at times, and appeared extremely fatigued, which she attributed to the cold weather. >> All right, so just a few tests I want you to make sure you're safe to drive. Okay. Uh, what exactly medications do you take? What's the name of them? >> I just started a new one. starts with a name, but I take uh I take I take >> one. >> I take L something. I don't know. It's a new one. Do you want my husband to check? >> No. No, that's all right. And which of those did you take today? >> All of them cuz I'm medic I'm prescribed all of them. >> Okay. You're supposed you're supposed to take all those around the same time. >> I take in the morning. my esco whatever in the morning and I take my just for my asthma and at 5:00. >> Okay. All right. Uh so first I just want to check your eyes. Uh do you have any eye problems or abnormalities? >> Um I have glasses. >> Okay. But no contacts though. >> No. >> So what I'm going to do is put your feet together just like so. And keep your hands at your sides. So I know it's a little cold out. You don't have a jacket on but yeah keep them at your side. So out of your pocket for this test you're going to keep your head still. You're going to follow the movement of the tip of my finger with your eyes only. >> Are you going to tell me when? >> Yeah, I'll tell you when. Okay. Oh, you're going to keep keep following the tip of my finger with your eyes only. I tell you until I tell you to stop. >> Does that make sense? >> Follow the tip of your finger and tell you when to stop. >> Okay. All right. Go ahead and follow my finger. >> Can I move my head? >> No. I'm getting sleepy. You're making me a little dizzy though. >> Okay, I'm almost done. Not moving the head. Sorry. >> Oh, very good. Do you have any physical problems, disabilities, anything that prevent you from walking the straight line? >> Um, no. I have asthma. That's about it. Okay. Allergies. Um, so what I what I want you to do is imagine a line in front of you. If you want, you can use like the seam of the concrete here. >> Uh, place your foot on that line. >> One foot. >> Uh, yeah. Place your left foot on the line. There you go. And now place your right foot >> in front of it. >> On the on the line ahead of your left foot. Yep. With the heel of your right foot against the toe of your left foot. And place your arms at your sides just like the first one. I'll show you what it looks like. So I got my left foot like started my right foot and my arms at the sides just like this. >> Okay. >> So go ahead and get that and get in that position. >> Left foot. >> Okay. Left foot. Now right foot. Now arms at your sides. Okay. Sorry. >> All right. Now, arms at your sides. Now, stay in that position. [clears throat] Don't walk until I tell you to. Do you understand the instructions so far? >> I do. >> All right. Very good. When I say begin, take nine heel toe steps on the line and turn around and take nine heel toe steps back on the line. Make your turn by keeping your front foot on that line and turn by taking a series of small steps with the other foot. I'll show you what it looks like. >> The line and he's making me >> Well, yeah. Don't start yet. Yeah. You have to get in the position that I told you to. I'll show you what it looks like. Okay. >> Yes. Again, here and one in front. >> Yes. Arms the sides. Stay like that. touching or >> they do. I'll show you what it looks like. So, this is the starting position you should be in. Keep your arms at your sides and watch your feet at all times and count your steps out loud. >> Did you hear what I said? >> Uh, keep your arms at your side. No, I didn't because I was your >> Okay, I'll say it again. Keep your arms at your sides, not behind. Watch your feet at all times and count your steps out loud. >> Okay? >> Just like I did. Once you start walking, don't stop until you have completed that test. Does that make sense? >> Nine steps. Watch your feet left to right. >> Yes. So, do you understand? >> I do. All right. >> This is shaky. >> Okay. Go ahead and count your first step as one. >> Hold on. Let me loosen the muscle. Ready? >> Yeah. Go ahead. >> 8. >> Good. Sorry. Are we good? >> Do you remember what I said to do when you were done with the first nine? >> Uh, don't do anything until you say so. I don't >> turn around and go nine steps back. >> 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 >> For another one, place your heel your heels and your toes together like this and your arms at your sides. >> Get out of the car. No, we almost did. It's okay. Okay, I'll just freeze. >> Dude, do you have a jacket in there? >> I have a card, a sweater. >> Okay. Uh, where is it at? >> It's in the front. >> It's in the front. >> Yeah. Right by the checker bag. >> If you would like to grab it, we just got to make sure you don't have any weapons in there. Okay. If that would make you feel warmer >> and more comfortable. >> Or like if you want to grab it, it's fine. >> Is it that uh the black one? Is it okay if I open your door? >> Sure. Sure. Sure. Here you go. Thank you. >> Even after being given time to warm up, her condition showed little improvement. She was unable to complete routine tasks as expected [music] and could not demonstrate the stability she had earlier described. >> All right, sir. Next. >> All right. Place your heels and your toes together and your arms at your sides. >> Okay. Heels, toes together, arms, >> arms at sides. Very good. So again, don't start the test until I >> until I tell you to. Is that your husband? >> I hope so. >> All right, sir. Can you go ahead and stay over there for us? >> What about Jamie? >> Thank you. >> Kevin, you got >> uh No, we'll let we'll let you know here in a little bit. Um the possibility. Uh but we'll let you know. Okay. >> Maybe you can call Kristen across the street. Do you want him to take your daughter right now or? >> No, he's got to get back in like 10 minutes or seven minutes for my son. >> Okay. Well, we'll Yeah, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. All right. >> All right. So, we're going to go through this again. Keep your arms at your sides at all times and watch your race foot. Do you understand the instructions? >> I believe so. >> Okay. Go ahead and perform the test. Then 1,00 1,002 100, 10003 1,0004, 105 1,006, 107, 1089,001, 2012, 2013 2014 15, 2016. Is this okay? >> Okay, you could stop. Did I pass that one? >> Um, it's not a pass fail test. Just different things that we look for. >> Can I roll this window up? >> Yeah. Yeah. Go ahead. Keep her warm. All right. One of the last ones I'm going to have you do. Um, again, feet together, arms at your sides. So, when I tell you to uh and upright tell, you're going to tilt your head back slightly and you're going to close your eyes until you think 30 seconds has passed. Do you understand that? >> 30 seconds. >> Yeah. Okay. Do you understand? >> I do. I understand. My heart's a little racy right now. So, >> why is that? I don't know. Standing outside with two placements. >> All right. I'll show you what it looks like. You're going to tilt your head back like this and you're going to close your eyes. Okay. Ready? Start. >> I'm keeping my eyes closed the whole time. >> Yep. >> Okay. Am I good? 30 seconds, right? >> You think that's 30? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Maybe 40. >> Okay, you can stop. So, where did your husband go? >> Uh to get my son off the bus. >> Oh, gotcha. Okay. Why is there a problem? >> Uh yeah, we're going to have to wait for him. >> That's my test. >> So, yeah, you're under arrest for DUI. DUI prescription. That's right. Oh, I'm not complete in handcuffs right now in front of your daughter. >> Are you serious? >> Yeah, I'm serious. >> I mean, it's freezing out here. Can we do it again then? >> Nope. >> Can't you like breath or lie to me or something? >> Oh, I don't need to. I don't think that's alcohol. >> I don't understand though. I mean, DUI for what? My medication. >> Absolutely. >> And how is that? Why is that? How am I acting that? Uh the the test that you did, there was indicators that you're impaired. Someone that's not impaired would be able to do the test without all the indicators that you showed to me >> because of my balance. I don't know. I'm just so nervous. [clears throat] I >> mean, what does that mean? Do I mean, I understand >> driving under the influence, uh there's different categories. There's there's alcohol, there's illegal drugs, and there's also legal dogs. on all these prescriptions. They say um you shouldn't operate heavy machinery or your motor vehicles while taking this medication. >> But that wasn't I mean I didn't get pulled over. >> You were in your car. You're in complete physical control. You had your daughter in the back and you drove from over there to here. >> But I'm saying you did not pull me over. >> I don't have to pull you over. >> How do I fight that? >> Uh I can't give you legal advice. Um we're going to go through a process here in a little bit and I'll explain everything the best I can. >> Can I call my husband or? >> Um yeah. Yeah. I don't I don't see why not. >> Do I Is that like the same as alcohol equivalency or >> Yeah, it's the same equivalent. >> It's like a 10. >> So instead of being impaired on alcohol, it's impaired on prescription. >> I don't get that. I'm not impaired on prescription. >> You don't think you are? >> My my medication. >> Can you tell me exactly what I failed? >> Uh it's going to be in the police report that I'll have to do. Um but so fieldy test uh there's indicators of impairment on the fieldity test. That's That's what we call it. >> And you agree with this? >> I do agree with that. >> Okay. Do you need to bring the prescription something? >> Uh, if you want to, that's totally up to you. It's not necessary. >> It's cuz it won't get me off the bus or anything, right? >> No. >> So, what now? >> Uh, I I just want to wait for your husband to to get your daughter. >> Okay. And then I have to go to the station. >> Um, so first we're going to have to go to the hospital. I'm going to have to have you I'm going to request that you provide a blood sample. >> Okay. >> If I don't do that, >> uh, your license gets suspended. >> Okay. And then we go to the station. >> Yeah. Like how how was I acting that made made me get called? >> That's something I got to follow up with them about. >> Well, I mean, they obviously called you for something. >> Yeah, they called because they're concerned about you and they thought you seemed off and then uh when I run you feel their field sobriety test, that's consistent with >> As concerns continued, the mother offered additional explanations, including that she had recently begun taking a new prescribed treatment. >> Behavior, that's not normal. I believe that you're impaired. So, can you tell me what behaviors were not normal? Just that like I couldn't stand. >> Again, I've talked with them about specifics. Oh, as far as the the testing. Um, yeah. And there's a whole bunch. Um, >> like the balance thing. >> Yeah. You couldn't balance. You brought your foot down. You um you bent your knee. You didn't keep it straight. >> Okay. I didn't I >> You hopped. You brought your arms up. >> Oh, I mean, yeah. I'm freezing. I'm just like my muscles are so tense right now because I'm cold. >> I mean, there's only so much information I can give you. Uh when all this is over, there's going to be a nice long police report that'll detail everything. >> And you're you're giving me an under the arrest. You can at least tell me why. Like what? Yes, I failed whatever you think I failed. But what? You didn't pull me over cuz I was driving. >> And I was parked. >> Did you drive from over there to over here? >> So then I >> uh Yes, I did. >> Yeah. Do you normally park like this? >> No, I was looking for my wallet to go through. Yes. Diagonal. So I get my wallet and then continue my turn. For your medications, can I ask is all the same prescribing doctor or different doctors? >> Same doctor. >> And you're prescribed to take all of those? >> All of them? Yes, I am. >> Did your doctor tell you anything about not taking them before driving? >> No, she did not. And right now, we're going through some experimental to see what's working best for me. And like I mentioned earlier, I just switched to something else off of something because I was making weird faces with the and with depression. It messes my mind up sometimes. >> And so so far taking this combination of uh prescriptions. Do you feel like you act a certain different way? >> Um I did with the and that's why she took me off of it and you know I'm on this other one and I thought I was feeling better. So, am I acting like a crazy then? >> Uh, no. I I never said crazy. I just I just think that >> you see those people. >> It's not what I'm calling you. I just think that you're impaired on [snorts] the prescription. Once a family member arrived to take custody of the child, officers instructed the mother on the next steps according to standard procedure. >> All right, just stand over here, please. Sir, if you want to grab your daughter >> and anything that might that she might need from the car. >> Maybe the iPad. >> Yeah. Any valuables you're going to have to take out as well? >> Right. It's okay. Right. I'm going to put her in real quick. >> So, can I ask you guys questions or no? >> Uh, it depends on the question. But if you grabbed her wallet, I need to have your driver's license, please. >> I I didn't grab her wallet. Her wallet's in there. >> I got my wallet. >> I just So, Illinois is no cash bail, right? So, she's going to be processed and >> processed and released with the court date. >> Okay. That processing will probably happen by the end of the day or >> Absolutely. Well, she'll give you a call when when we're almost done so you can pick her up. >> Okay. Hey, you should be okay. I love you. Okay. >> All right. Anything else you guys need for me? >> What happens to my car? >> Leaving it here. >> I have to tow it. >> Shut up. Why? >> The law says I have to tow it. >> Okay. Is there anything else that you need out of here then? >> I don't know. My whole life is in here. >> You can have all the milk you need. Your hands are not removed from that hood. So much. >> All right. So, what we're going to have you do is put your hand behind your back. >> Hands behind your back. >> Relax. >> Relax. Relax. >> Relax. Relax. Relax. >> Look at me. Look at me. Relax. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. >> Breathe. >> Breathe. Hold on. I need you to stay still so the officer can go ahead and lock them so they don't get tighter on you. Rather than issuing a formal rights notice, [music] officers reviewed a motorist safety warning explaining the risks of operating a vehicle while not fully fit, the requirement to complete professional evaluations, and the administrative consequences of non-compliance. >> All right. Uh, so I'm going to read you something. It's called the warning motorist. This explains what test I'm going to request of you and uh the penalty is the civil penalty if you refuse to do it. Okay. >> Okay. I still have to read it though. >> Okay. Is that okay? I I had not started. What do you got? >> So, the red wallet is not in there. We're assuming your husband is the one that has it. We have to make sure >> we have permission for that or >> uh no, it's instant to arrest that we're inventorying your vehicle so that way >> inventorying can't can I say stop? >> No. Going to >> It's not a consent search. Considering the above, you are warned if you refuse or fail to if you refuse your driver's license gets suspended for a year. If you >> are there special cases with that like work and whatever >> if there's special cases for what >> like work and driving your kids to school or >> Yeah, it's up to the judge and DMV. Um it's called like a a drive driveway a drive permit. >> If you perform the test and provide blood if there's evidence of medication that is deemed to be impairing um then your driving driver's license would be suspended for 3 months. So you're looking at 3 months versus a year. So that being said, will you consent? >> What are the what are the blood samples for again? >> Uh to see what what is in your blood? >> They do everything just the medication. >> Any and all medication that that would be in your blood. I mean it could be prescription, you name it. So will you provide blood? >> No. I'm afraid of needles. >> You're what? >> Afraid of needles. >> You're afraid of needles. If you refuse, I'm going to apply for a search warrant for your blood. It's up to the judge whether or not he grants that search warrant. If you say no, the search warrant, um, then I charge you with obstructing a police officer. Um, so that being said, do you want to do blood now? Sorry, you still want to use >> I do not want to. >> Okay. All right. Okay. Can I take your seat belts off? You can come out. How >> you can follow that officer. Part of your drunk, dude. >> I'm not drunk. >> Yeah. Yes, you are. You're not. We'll find out here in a minute. >> Yeah. What's going on? I just told you I got another unit coming. We're going to see if you're drunk or not. You about went off the road and hit my patrol car. You weren't even paying attention. >> And then when you pull Yes, you did. And then when you pulled on off of Mary onto Cooper, then you're spinning tires driving 70 down this car. >> 70 >> at least at the very minimum. >> I went 70 >> 100%. >> No, sir. >> Yes, sir. Well, what's the glass that just fell and hit the floor right there at your feet? >> Never went 70. >> Okay. What's that glass that just fell and hit the floor? >> That's a That's a glass from my house. What do you mean? >> You drink alcohol. You're slurring your words. Let go of my car. You can't even stand up straight on your own. >> Can't. >> Look at you. You pissed your pants. >> No, sir. This is drink. >> Okay. What kind of drink? >> Water. What do you mean? >> I pissed my pants. Really? >> Sure looks like it. >> No, sir. I didn't piss on Really? I pissed my pants? >> Well, when people are drunk and they don't know it, they piss their pants. It happens all the time. >> Piss my pants. >> Okay. >> Wow. >> You should be ashamed to yourself. >> I live right here. >> I don't care where you live, you're risking their life driving like that. >> No, sir. I'm not driving crazy. >> Okay. >> The dialogue over. I'm drunk versus I'm not drunk. Continued. You don't even know that you did it. You think I'm just making all this up? Are you questioning my integrity? Is that what you're doing? >> Well, you are because you tell me you didn't do it and I watched you do it and so those three juveniles I was dealing with while you blew by me. >> Three juveniles? What are you talking about? >> That's exactly my point. You just blew by me going that way. I was out with three juveniles and you almost hit my patrol car. >> No, sir. I never almost you at all. I wanted cameras. >> Oh, it's all on camera. Don't worry about >> Put it on camera, please. Yes, sir. Put them on camera. >> Sounds good. That's right. >> Yes, sir. Put it on camera. I did nothing wrong. >> Okay. >> Whatsoever. I'm going towards my house. My house is right here across the church. Right here. >> Okay, we'll find out here in a minute. >> No, not at all. >> Unbelievable. >> I don't understand what I did. I'm I apologize for >> If you don't understand what you did, that's the problem. That's the problem. If you're telling me you don't know what you did, that's the problem. You're driving like that car. >> Yeah. Those are kids. Young kids going towards my house >> and going back that way at 100 miles an hour. >> 100 miles an hour. Dude, I was going 100. You are insane, bro. If you think I was going 100, you insane. I'm sorry. Look, when did you start the service, >> buddy? I've been here a long time. This ain't my first day. Listen, I'm not trying to argue with you. But I was not doing 100. >> No way I was doing 100. No, sir. >> Well, you're pissed drunk. So, you're full of [ __ ] No way. >> You guys go check on the kids in the car. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. That was in his That was in his lap. >> No, it was in my lap. >> Yes, it was. It didn't just fall from the sky. It's all on camera. >> Glass. Was it my lap? >> Okay. >> Okay. >> You're right. There was a glass in my lap. What does that mean? An empty glass in my lap. >> The father still seemed completely unaware of the danger posed by his reckless swerving on the road. How's it going? Sorry to anybody's being a maniac, you know. Did you guys just drive down that way and then you came back this way? Yeah, you went by Toms. You guys saw me over there. Okay. >> Listen, I apologize. I didn't mean to. >> You don't got to apologize to me. I'm more pissed off that you're not coherent enough to drive your vehicle. >> [ __ ] Drive my vehicle to my house. >> So, tell me why your would say, "Yeah, drunk and he was just driving really fast up and down this road and told him to stop." You think a 8-year-old make that up? >> He's a child. Oh, he's going to say what he says. Yeah. >> So, he So, he shouldn't even know what drunk is, right? He's a child, >> dude. Look at here, man. >> Dude, what? >> You're being You're being Look, seriously, >> I am. You have car. I'm a father. I would never >> at home is right here. >> So, is that just make it okay that you should just get to go home because you're drunk? >> Look, I'm not doing nothing to put my life in. >> You are because they're in the vehicle and then you about put my life in danger when you almost hit me, >> sir. No, I did not almost hit you. >> I don't know what to tell you. >> I did not almost you. No, sir. You're being honestly ridiculous right now. You really are. >> I don't really care what you think. To be honest with you, I'm telling you what happened. >> I apologize if you think that I did. >> I don't think that it happened. I'm telling you it did. >> But I did not. No, sir. >> I don't got to argue with you. So, it did happen. You can be in denial all you want to about happen. So, >> listen. You think that you >> Well, you're telling me I'm wrong. So, that's question of my integrity. I'm telling you. >> Okay. What the you say, bud? Look arguing with you, man. >> I'm not I'm not arguing with you, man. I'm not. What? I apologize if you think I did. I'm sorry. >> But I did not. >> Suddenly, a woman appeared. >> Watch the glass. >> I could have drove, but I just ran. >> You're good. You said you guys live right there. >> Yes. >> Yeah. So, he bought me over there on the side of the road going off the road on Cooper going that way. While I was dealing with three other people, and then they were like, "You're not you're going to keep messing with us and not go stop that guy the way he's driving." Well, then I was trying to finish with them. And then he went through the neighborhood over there, came back out at Mary, blew the stop sign spinning tires, doing like 70 both ways. >> Exactly. So, not only did he almost me he's also risking >> driving recklessly with the kids. >> Uh, this fell out of his lap. So, I'm assuming that probably came from Ryan's if that's where you guys came from. >> Okay. Glass. I wasn't sure, but yeah. >> Yeah, it was in his fell out of his lap. Once we're done with him, then they can go with Does he normally piss his pants? Is that normal for him? >> He does it. >> Okay. But Okay. >> But we can coherent. No. After all the denials, the police had no choice but to conduct an on the spot alcohol test. >> What's your name? >> Mason. >> Mason. All right, man. So, my deputy just told me he observed you the traffic down here. Okay. >> Unfortunately. Yes, sir. >> So, after he made contact with you, obviously I'm seeing it, too. I'm selling, you know, clear speech. You're leaning up against his vehicle. I really hope you didn't get yourself. >> No, sir. That's drink. >> Drink. >> There's a glass over there. >> What kind of drink was it? >> Just water. Just water on the left. >> Yes, sir. >> Where did you Where are you guys coming from? >> Uh, I came from Ryan's >> off of Duncan Road there. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. I don't know if there's one here in downtown. >> No, sir. No, sir. Ryan. >> Okay. So, based on his observations, my observations on me speaking to you, I'm just going to run you through. Okay. All it is is that something to make sure that you're able to operate the vehicle. Doesn't mean that you're in any trouble at all. >> I don't want to to do a field test or I don't. I live right here. I don't care to. So my like I said my house is right here street >> behind your license in front of your license. >> Why am I going to jail? Because I look right here. >> Let me speak to you. So based on my observation is observation. >> I'm not being anal or not. >> I know. Well, you asked. So I'm explaining it to you, right? I hope I'm not being an explain it to you. So the way that that works is >> what do I need to do to >> dispel my fear that you're not intoxicated is run through field sobriety. That's it. >> That's all it is. It's either you do it or you don't. All right. Just like how it says on I'll show you my license. Let's see what you see. >> I am right here in my house, man. >> I get it. Right here. >> Can you read over there at the bottom? >> Not being a motor vehicle constitutes any sobriety but test required by law. So that's all it is. Just based on my observations. I'm not accusing you of anything. It's just based on my observations. I just need to dispel my fear that you're able to operate. >> What do you want me to do? >> Will you consent to run through field? >> Can you run me through what you want me to do? >> I can. I can do it through without me consenting. Let me know what you want me to do. >> You don't whatever. >> So you're if you want to do them, it's yes or no. >> What do you want me to do? I want to know what you want me to do. >> The result. The father almost failed the test. >> See the tip of my pen here? All right. With the tip of your pen, do you mind touching with the tip of your finger? Like that. >> Why are you shaking? >> Yeah. I don't know why. >> Why are you shaking so bad? >> Probably too much. >> I can't. What's going on? >> There you go. >> Okay. Oh, >> you got it. I know. That was >> Whoa, bro. Wa. Just Can somebody else hold the pen? >> No, I just have drank too much caffeine. Okay. Well, you see what it is, right? You touched it. >> Well, I'm just saying you're like this. Do you see the tip on my pen? >> I do. Okay. But can I record this or no? >> It's all record. >> That's how I record it on camera. >> I mean, your pen is doing this right here. It's pretty straight. >> Yeah, it's straight. >> Okay. Yes, sir. >> You touch it. You're good. Put your hands down. Okay. So, the tip of the pen that you just touched with your tip of your finger, you're going to follow it with your eyes and your eyes open. Okay. Do not move your head. Do you understand? >> Good. >> Do you mind taking your hands out of your pocket? Keep them straight to your side. Like I said, >> you're shaking a lot. >> You're going to follow it with your eye. >> You're shaking a lot. >> What does that have to do with you following it? >> You're shaking a lot. >> Can you follow it? I'm following it. What do you mean? >> Are you doing it? >> I'm doing it. Am I Am I doing it? Am I doing it or no? >> Can you stop talking? >> I'm doing it. I'm doing it. Right. >> Go ahead. Just follow it. >> Go ahead. >> Follow it. >> This time things escalated when the man resisted, leaving the police with no choice but to make an arrest. >> Do you feel comfortable walking in those? >> No, I don't. >> Do you mind taking them off? >> No, sir. I'm not walking in a straight line. There's no straight line here. There's no line here in the road. >> There's no straight line. Can't imagine a straight line or anything. Nope. I can't imagine straight line. >> You know what we can do? There is a straight line. Walk over here. >> I'm not doing it. >> If you're not, then just put your hands behind your back. >> What? Put your hands behind back. >> Why are you going to say no to me when I tell you to put your hands behind your back? >> Okay. I'm not I'm not I'm not releasing, sir. >> Then don't say no. And don't push off. >> I'm not pushing you, sir. >> I'm not I'm not being a butt head, dude. Look. Look. Why am I being a >> I will do what you want me to do. >> No, you're too late for that. You're You're being the No, you're too late. >> Wow. >> Okay. I'm sorry. >> Let me check that buckle. What is >> why the am I being arrested, man? >> I don't know why. >> Okay. Thank >> Thank you for all this. >> Despite the tension, the authorities [music] patiently informed and ensured all legal procedures were properly followed for the mother. >> All right. So, based on that, your husband's under arrest for DUI. Just so you know, it's an enhancement as well because there's children under the age of 18 in the vehicle. And due to his actions and my observation, DCF will be called on. >> Okay. >> Oh, no. He will. He will. >> So I So based on what my off my deputy here said, obviously the speeding. >> So we have them. We pulled him over. We made contact with him. I smell the alcohol in him in his in his breath. All right. They don't just serve glass to go on glass like that. >> Absolutely not. >> Okay. Based on all that, I never accused him of anything. I don't know if you could hear the conversation that I was having. All we did there was try to run him through field sobriety just to dispel our fears that he's able to operate the motor vehicle. He's not impaired in any sort. That's all it was. I showed him my driver's license. Your driver's license says it as well. Under your address, it says that per Florida law, you have to do field sobriety. >> Mhm. >> I explained that to him. That kind of changed his mind cuz he said no. Just of him saying no once, I could have automatically taken him to jail. But I wanted to give him every opportunity to do it just to dispel my fears cuz like I said, I didn't want to accuse him of anything, right? Cuz you can drink. The issue comes now where you're unable to operate the motor vehicle. the speeding down a school zone. I don't know if you can see this is not it's not an active school zone, but there's still children playing. I know there's baseball practice on on Thursdays. You know what I'm talking about. Giving the area here. >> It's unacceptable, right? So, I do it here. He starts saying, "Oh, you're shaking. You're moving. You're all this. It doesn't matter if I'm shaking. All he has to do is just follow my my pen." He didn't want to he didn't wasn't want to doing it. He couldn't follow it. His eyes were like this. All right. Which shows that his impairment level is is pretty high. And I tried to do him to walk in just to do a walk and turn. At that time, I like I said, never accuse him of anything. He's like, "Oh, I'm not doing it. I'm not." I'll ask him, "Do you feel comfortable in the shoes that you're wearing? If you don't, take them off just to do this." "Oh, there's not a straight line here. I can't do it." "Okay, well, we'll move over there where there's a straight line." "No, I don't want to do it." So, I'm like, "Okay, you don't want to do it. Then you're going to jail. You obviously wanted to push away. Didn't want to turn around for me." And that's where we're at. Okay. Obviously, I did not want it to go that way cuz there's children. They're not 3 years old, so they're going to remember this for their whole life. That's not why we do our things, right? I'm sure this is probably the first interaction they've had with the with with law enforcement. Has it been? >> No. >> Okay. I thought so. Obviously, I didn't want this to be the first one without them understanding. This >> is not know exactly what's going on. Well, my oldest. Yeah. >> So, I'm gonna I'm just going to ask you, was he drinking at was what was in that in that? >> Oh, absolutely. It was um Jack and Co. >> I could smell. >> He's been drinking since 1:00 today. >> Since 1:00. >> Yes. >> And he does that on a consistent basis. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah, I'm just going to get a statement. Do you mind unlock? >> The father was held on charges of DUI, [music] child, resisting arrest, and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. But um a long long time ago before I was born, she had >> and she does do and she does smoke Green Eagle. >> Oh, >> CPS already came twice. Who is your Gigi? >> She's my aunt. And I and my and I meant to go over there tonight. So, can you drive me there? I'll >> guide you. >> Um, does Gigi work here? >> She doesn't work. >> Oh, >> I'll guide you. >> You know what her name is? >> Mhm. Jennifer. >> Jennifer. >> But, um, can I guide you to her house? >> Let him just stay on the phone for a few more minutes and we'll be able to talk more about it. >> I'm meant to be at my genie cuz my mom is really unsafe. I am shivering. >> Seeing this, the police tried [music] their best to reassure her, keeping her calm and safe. >> Honey, are you hurting anywhere? >> My toe cuz I told you about that. >> She's not hurting anywhere, but she did say that her mom used to have guns. Her mom does and smokes a lot of green eagles. >> Fourth of July. Um, sometimes on a different car I'm allowed to like do this to look at >> Oh, to look at the fireworks. >> Sometimes we do fireworks like last year. >> I like doing fireworks. They're fun. Especially the ones that go way up and they make all those pretty colors. >> Yeah. But I get like my ears hurt. >> Yeah. I'm allowed to show off the roof. >> Yep. I did that when I was a kid, too. My mom and dad would take me and I'd be able to sit up there and just be able to watch all the fireworks. >> I didn't have any dinner. I did have breakfast and lunch at school, but no dinner. >> I do do homework. >> I do do. >> You silly. >> I do homework and I do a lot of school work. I am really flexible. Watch this. >> Wait. >> Are you a cheerleader? >> No. I wish I was, but I I'm just I'm just tired today. >> She says she hasn't had dinner at all. Okay. >> Hey, are you cold? Do you want me to turn the heater on for you? >> Uh-huh. >> All right. We'll turn the heater on and you can have a seat in that beautiful front seat right there. Okay. And then we'll shut the door to where the heat will stay in and me and my partner have to talk about a couple things real quick. Okay. >> Wait, do you have anything in here? I could at least have a snack on cuz I >> We'll make sure we >> We will make sure you have something to eat, baby. I promise. >> Cuz I feel really sick. And I think it's because um I haven't ate. But I have a um marshmallows and cotton candy. >> Turn your feet right over that way here. Look, I'll even turn this light on for you so you don't get scared. Okay. Look, I got something for you. Look at this. >> It's like one of those you squeeze. >> I know. >> There you go. Hey, look. >> If it was >> even got you a sticker right there. You want one for your >> Uhhuh. Is that what you said you wanted to go? >> Uh-huh. >> I'll guide you the way. >> Okay. >> I'll say where it is. >> It is kind of at the edge of the town. >> Okay. But the mother's [music] lack of sobriety, combined with Haley's relentless accusations, pushed the police to their limit, forcing them to make an arrest. >> Hey, quick question. What year was Haley born? >> 6. Me? I just I I I I don't know why. Oh, I didn't have anything. It's just my >> This is my baby. Please. He's going with y'all. >> Yes. >> Why? >> Go ahead and stand up for me. >> Whoa. >> Stand up. Because stand up. I'm telling you to stand up. >> Yes, sir. But why? Because you're under arrest. Do you want this purse to go with you? >> What is going on? >> I just told you you're under arrest >> for >> child abangement. >> I'm sorry. What? >> You heard me. Do you want your purse to go with you? Quit pulling away from me. >> My child. HOW DO I hurt my >> Come on. Let's go to the >> How do I hurt my child? >> I only have socks. Oh my gosh. Don't you ever grab me. >> Oh, hell no. >> Stand up against the car. >> I got relax. >> Look at this. I got stitches. You just >> because you're trying to grab my genitals. That's why. >> Get in the car. >> Get in the car. All right. You're catching. All right. You just caught another charge. >> All right. Come on. Let's go. Come on. Even while being escorted to the station, she continued [music] to resist fiercely, leaving the police no choice but to use a restraint mask to ensure everyone's safety. >> You don't want to lose your job, sir. >> I'm not worried about that. >> You should be by the way you pick me up. >> Cuz you resisted me. >> I never once resisted. I got everything on my arms. >> Okay. >> I'll take this to court. >> That's fine. I'll be there. We'll see you there. >> No, you won't. Transfer your [ __ ] Is that a threat, too? >> No sir, it ain't. How dare you do me with my child? What's your issue? You got like an issue against me or something? >> I don't even know you until just now. >> So, what's up then? What's up? It's my baby girl. Her father's dead, son. >> I NEVER MY CHILD. >> Go ahead and start sliding back this way. Move your feet this way. >> I never What are y'all doing? >> Grab on. Let go of my arm. >> Stand right there and do not move. >> Stand in that wall and face it. Don't move away from it. >> Oh, so y'all can break a mother's face. >> Face the wall. Okay. You just got another assault on a peace officer is what you just got. Y'all just hit my face. >> Get a spit, man. >> My face is just spit. >> Will you hear me? I think it's on my whole [ __ ] right there. >> My face has been smashed and I'm still >> Thanks. >> I mean, char three now. >> Are you Wow. >> All felonies. >> Are you >> face wall? >> Are you for real, though? >> Yeah, he's for real. >> What the ow? What the? >> That doesn't even hurt it. What the was that on my face? >> Spit mask. It doesn't spit. >> Uh, is this really messy? >> Yes, it is. >> 100%. >> You stand there with your mouth open. But yeah, it is. No, we put your clothes on and then you're going to put this back on. You do not spit on us. >> The mother was arrested and held on charges of criminal mischief, [music] childment or endangerment, and aggravated assault. Under Texas law, if convicted, she could face fines exceeding [music] $22,000. This video serves as a reminder. Children are innocent, yet they bear the full consequences of adult [music] decisions. The way we live today is shaping the fate of the next generation. Haley's cries in Texas hadn't even faded when in Florida, two more children were left abandoned in their own home. >> You said something about a and possibly her mother or something like that. >> On January 20th, 2024, St. John's County, Florida police received an emergency call about two children aged three and six alone for a long time in their home. When officers arrived, they faced Amber, their caregiver. Her excuse stunned everyone. I just went to the mailbox for a moment. >> Amber ain't nowhere to be found. >> Kids tiny. >> Three and six. >> Just watching Mario and they're by themselves. >> Hi. >> Are you Amber? >> Yes. >> Okay. What are we doing? >> I had to run to this mailbox. >> Where's the mailbox? >> Right there. But my key wasn't working because she usually >> definitely weren't there when we >> Yeah, we stop. Let's stop for a minute. You weren't at the mailbox. We've been in the neighborhood for like 15. >> What happened? Who called? >> We've been in the neighborhood for 15 or 20 minutes. You ain't at the mailbox. >> I really did go initially. And then where did we go? >> And then she called me and I came right back. >> Okay. What store did you go to? >> Right there. >> I don't know what store you're talking about right now. >> I don't No, I'm not from here. We just moved here. >> Where do you move here from? >> South Carolina. >> Okay. What are the laws in South Carolina? You allowed to leave a three-year-old and a six-year-old home alone? >> No. >> You're not? I'm not. >> Okay. So, you know better, right? Yes. >> That's unbelievable. And then you hang up on my deputy. >> I didn't mean to. The thing lost and then it said no carer ID. So, I was like, who is this? So, yeah, that's my license. Hit their mom. >> I'm just I'm just curious of your thought process. I've got a three-year-old and a six-year-old sitting inside and said somebody shot at their mom. >> Okay. Hence, you know, five deputies here and there ain't an adult to be found. >> I'm sorry, guys. I didn't know he was going to call and say that they >> I don't care. Give me Give me a minute. Okay. You You can hang tight. >> Hey, I lied about this. Thanks. And it's a felony. I mean, she to go to jail. Got her daughter in the back seat. >> How old's your daughter, ma'am? >> She's 11. >> Okay. Here's your ID. >> Give Give us a couple minutes. >> Faced with a chaotic situation, the police had to confer on how to proceed. >> You can hang tie right there for a minute. >> You said I can. >> Yeah, that's fine. >> How far away is mom? >> Harbor. >> I got you. How you take your 11-year-old? >> I don't I think she needs to go to jail, bro. It's a felony. She was gone from the time came in to now it's been 30 minutes. I have no idea her. >> Huh? >> Her? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Yeah. Um not to mention she's going to hang up on you and then lie to everybody when she gets here. >> She never knows she had to come up with the mail in her hand, too. >> Yeah. No, on purpose. >> You guys want the mailboxes at the front of the neighborhood? >> I I personally think she needs to go to jail. I mean, it's >> child. >> Yeah. I mean, it's a felony. So, >> you don't really necessarily want to do it in front of daughter. So, >> no. No. And I don't I don't disagree with that, but >> take your car to interview her. >> Yeah, >> I'll see if she wants to give me a swarm statement. >> Okay. Yeah, we can go right. She's already done lied to us a couple times. >> Probably going to be my mom. >> Shortly after the Miranda warning was read, marking the start of the official interrogation of Amber. >> This is crazy. >> You're willing to give a sworn audience now? >> Do I have to? I'm just asking yes or no. >> That's fine. >> Okay. >> Today's date is January 20th, 2024. The time is 11:29 a.m. I'm Deputy Claus from St. John's County Sheriff's Office. Law enforcement deputy conducting criminal investigation. This interview is being conducted. I'm interviewing Amber Scott. Persons present in this interview are myself, Amber, Deputy [ __ ] Before we get started, like affirm this statement is a voluntary statement that no one messed you or Mishi to give the statement. Is that correct? >> Yeah. If I don't like am I going to go to jail or something? >> Not saying I'm just trying to get your side of what happened. >> Yeah. I went to check the mailbox and I was headed to the store and as soon as I left, I even had the thing. It was like alarm activity detected. Kinder caught me and said, "The police are at the house. Please turn around." >> I still got to ask you some things. Okay. At this time, I'd like to place you under oath. This will be a sworn and a court interview taken by a law enforcement deputy pursuant to Florida State statute 117.10 tra and affirm the statement you're about to give with the truth the whole truth and nothing but truth. All right. Put your hand here now. Can you please state your full name and date of birth? >> So right now we're doing a investigation. Okay. Right now it could be child because the six-year-old and three-year-old alone by themselves. Okay. I got to ask you a series of questions. I got to read you something. Okay. You have the right to remain silent and then you say it can be used against you in the court. You have the right to talk to your lawyer for advice before we ask you any questions have been with you during question for lawyer will be the point for you before any questioning if you wish you decide to answer any questions without a lawyer present you still have the right to stop answer any time you also have the right to stop answer any time until you talk to the law understanding each of these rights I will explain with you >> yes sir >> with these rights in mind do you wish to talk to us now keep me out of jail >> yes or no >> yes >> okay it's not whether or not it keeps you out of jail I just need to ask you a few questions are you good to talk to me >> I'm just kind like crazy. >> Okay, but I need a yes or no. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. >> Yes. The truth quickly emerged. She hadn't been at the mailbox as she first claimed and the reason for lying was I guess it sounded better. >> So, we're here because [clears throat] 3-year-old uh did a and the prostitute did that. She said something about a gun and her mother or something like that. So, that's why we came here. That's why there's a lot of us here. When we got here, the six-year-old opened the door. We checked the house. It was just him and her in there. Um, >> originally what time did their mom leave today? >> Baseball her son. So she left at like 9:37, something like that. >> Okay. And that Were you just planning on staying there to watch the rest of the kids? >> Yeah. And I didn't want them to come out in the co cuz it's cold. So I went and checked the mailbox and I was headed to the store and then Kendra said, "Hey, the police are at the out the house. I need you to turn around and go." >> So where you are on 210 when she called here? >> 210. Yes, sir. So by the pilot or past the TA or >> on 210 the further down on the left hand side to that gas station and then she called and she said, "Hey, Amber, the police is at the door." >> Okay. So when I called you, why'd you say you were at the mailbox? >> Cuz she called you before I called you. >> Yeah, she did call me before. >> So why'd you tell me you were at the mailbox? >> Because I guess it sounded better. But I did go to the mailbox, but yeah, >> earlier. See what I mean? But when I called you, you said you're at the mailbox and then the next thing I know, you hung up on me. Okay. So that's why we have concerns. so that they shouldn't leave cuz my sergeant, my supervisor, other deputies weren't over there. You weren't by the mail while So the other thing if you're going to get mail, you have an 11-year-old daughter, right? >> She should have stayed with >> she could have, right? Could have stayed with them cuz she's older. She knows not open doors for people or anything like that. Has a phone. So why just like 11-year-old daughter stay with them cuz that's what >> cuz heaven forbid 6-year-old, three-year-old, they do something they get. >> Oh, next time she got to take them with her. I can't. It's not. They not even my cat, but she got to take them with her next time. >> So, she just asked you this morning if you could watch them while she goes. >> Yeah, something like that. She went upstairs. You left. I came downstairs. They was watching that one. >> There was communication. >> I told her I'm leaving out to check the mailbox quickly. I'm not sure if you guys heard when you came. So, when I left, I said, "Hey, I'm leaving." >> But no, there was >> And it wasn't supposed to be like that long. was supposed to be. >> It doesn't take that long for, heaven forbid something happens to them, someone breaks in or someone does something else. Well, you said she was gone when you left today, but there was communication where just for you to watch it until she got back with her son practice. >> Yeah. And then I said, "I'm going out right quick." And then she put I got a notification on my phone. It said critical. And that's when she called and said, "Hey, the police are now." >> Given the situation, the police had to show Amber the seriousness of leaving the children alone. That's where our issue is right here. Okay. So, that's that's my issue and everything like that. And we got a job to do and everything. So, what we're looking at right now is child. >> Okay. Unfortunately, even though you're not their kids, you were in charge of them while mom stop watching them. Heaven forbid say it was the other way around. You got a 63y old. How would you feel if you left or if that person left and left them alone and all the cops are here and everything? >> But she knew that I left. But >> but you're I mean she's away and everything. >> Yeah. >> Is there anything else you think you add right now? >> No, sir. That's it. >> All right. At this time, I'd like to conclude the interview and it's 11:35 a.m. >> Do you have any family in the area? >> No. >> Unfortunately, have to go with me. Okay. >> At that moment, the mother Kindra appeared, but it was too late. Every excuse was useless and the responsibility for the children remained with Amber. She was arrested and escorted away powerless to argue. >> Are you okay with her just watching your daughter? >> Yeah. Can I talk to her, please? >> Talk to your daughter? >> Um, Kendra? >> Yeah. Over here. What I don't want to do >> my daughter. >> What I don't want to do is >> I got to give her my debit card so I can get bell down and stuff. >> Okay. What I don't want to do is cuz you're throwing handcuffs. Are you going to be compliant with me? Yeah. >> You've been fine with me. I can put the handcuffs in the front. Do you want her to talk to you right now? Yeah. Come on, Kendra. I'm going to jail. Are you serious? >> It's okay. >> No. >> Look, you got to find my >> Are you the boss? >> It's Kendra. Just calm down. You got to find my TD bank card. You got to bail me out. >> You're really going to take her to jail? Yes, ma'am. >> They're my kids. >> Then it wasn't on. >> They're my kids. Are >> are you You're taking her to jail over my kids. >> Honey, you're want to talk to your daughter before or no? >> Yeah, I'll talk to >> Right here, ma'am. Tell her to come out. Where'd she go? >> She went in the house. You want to go tell her to come out real quick? >> So, are who's the boss? You are. >> No, >> I'm the one working this call. >> My boss is over there. >> Maybe just take me. They're my children. They're not her kids. They're mine. I choke my It was 30°. That's why I did not take them with me to my son's practice. >> Like, I told you I just ran up mailbox into the store and I told her to put them on. >> It still falls on you because >> But they're my kids. Can you just take me instead? She has a lot. >> Sir, can you take me instead? Are you serious? Sir Kendra, calm down. Okay, >> calm down, Kendra. Calm down. >> You guys are serious. Why not take me instead? >> She was in charge. >> But they're my kids. I'm in charge of my kids. I should have put them in the car. It's my fault. Just take me. >> But when you left, she knew that she was responsible for them. >> But they're my children. >> No, but she was responsible for them at the time. >> I will be responsible for them. >> But she was at the time. I understand that they're your kids. I I get that. >> You got to call my job, too. >> In your closet. >> Um money in your closet. >> You want to have the money? >> Get the money. Where is it at? In this pocket. >> This is You guys are taking her to jail over my kids >> that she was in charge of >> that I'm in charge of. >> But you weren't home. She was. And she was in charge. >> I'm in charge of my kids. Why can't you just take me if you got to take somebody? She was in charge of >> I will go I will go to jail. >> That's not what we're going to do. >> So you guys are going to take the person that goes to work instead of taking me. I don't want her. You could have took me. >> She's not going to take me. >> She was the one in charge of the kids, though. I've told you that. Three or four. >> Yeah, but they're my children. >> In the end, Kindra's [music] arrival couldn't save Amber. She was arrested for child and faced a three-year probation sentence. Do you think this punishment is harsh enough? Should Kindra also be held accountable? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
